English language - Reply

Sure thing, here is the translation (by the way, again no reply on the Lucas Hernández front beats me why, but AGAIN the IP inserted YouTube pages as "sources" - and I reverted, PLEASE tell if i am correct on this or not - also pinging me on the article's talk where I now went and told them the same),

"My man, can you find some statistics from Tercera División (and thus, from Real Madrid C) of this player? Maybe at the Madrilenian football federation? Matty did it once at Vicente Guaita (similar case, this time in Valencia CF Mestalla), and removed everything, these folks only know remove, remove and remove, even though the data is not strange.

World Cup ends tomorrow, but team season gets underway, this goes on and on! Now, in Portugal, everyone supports Juventus apparently, pathetic... Regards, thanks in advance (P.S. don't edit Mejías' article in the next hour, I am inserting refs)"

Apologies if you feel offended by parts of the message (or the whole thing), not my intention but it's just i never understood those actions. Shouldn't the subject of the article contact WP to complain about something/provide correct data if the data was inacurrate? Provided they do not do so, shouldn't WP assume the data is CORRECT?

However, both you and User:GiantSnowman should never doubt my level of engagement, I may disagree with you strongly in this department but I never reinserted stuff after you removed it (without sources, that is). Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 17:19, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

P.S. I wrote to MYS77 in Portuguese because it's his mothertongue as well as mine, nothing wrong with that is there? I have seen several discussions held at talkpages here in foreign language, and not one single note/warning received (not that i believe they merit it)... --Quite A Character (talk) 17:21, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

It's not wrong as such to communicate in a foreign language, but it is discouraged as it obviously makes it difficult for most editors to become involved in a discussion. The comment you left on MYS77's talk page is a case in point, as I feel I should have a right of reply as I was mentioned by name. I translated your comment using Google Translate before leaving that notice on your talk page, and one passage it brought up was "these people only know to take, take and take even if they are not surprising data". Now I know Google Translate isn't the most accurate, and I don't want to accuse you of saying something you haven't, but the tone of that is somewhat different to what you offered above.
This takes me back to the discussion we had a short while back about Vicente Guaita. Content should be covered by reliable sources, in accordance with WP:RS and WP:V. It does not matter that content is true, but rather that it can be verified by reliable sources. So the Real Madrid C stats might be completely correct in reality, but that is neither here nor there while they are not referenced. For all we know, they could be have been added with mistakes included or, even worse, are intentionally incorrect. The amount of fake statistics vandals attempt to insert on here is staggering, and we should not *assume* they are correct unless they can be verified.
Your argument that we should only remove or alter content if the "subject of the article contact WP to complain" troubles me. Notable subjects are probably never going to look at their WP articles, let alone go through them with a fine-tooth comb to look for errors. Even if they did, are they going to be that bothered to contact someone here about it? And maybe they're quite happy to have erroneous data to their name, such as if it inflates their appearances tally?
Both in this situation and in the one at Vicente Guaita, I really can't see how the removal of unsourced content is proving to be such a controversial topic. If it were content that were easily sourced I could understand, but we're talking about appearance data in the fourth-tier of Spain which looks to not be available online. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:04, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

I understand you completely and you have been quite assertive and thorough in every topic, and I surely do apologise for any inconvenience (everything goes over my head more often than not regarding the site guidelines, it seems - sadly - I have to be CONSTANTLY reminded about them). You say your GT "operations" conveyed a different thing than what i wrote above, but my conscience is at ease because i never wanted to belittle or be insulting/condescending.

I have addressed every citation tag at Mr. Mejías piece, and inserted a box ref for his MADRID C stuff (not sure if it's reliable, maybe User:MYS77 will fare better as he often does). Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2018 (UTC)

Wikirelationship

Matty, i sincerely hope this glaring mistake in approach on my part does not constitute the end of our wikirelationship. I sincerely (again) apologise for my shortcomings, and i also do acknowledge i am not the most gregarious editor and that some of my summaries are downright rubbish.

Attentively, from Portugal --Quite A Character (talk) 22:21, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Don't worry about it. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:06, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the patience. So, going from here, the "beef" at Lucas Hernández continues. I told the IP YouTube is not reliable and the IP says it is so (go figure)! I have given up on the matter, but trimmed down the SEVEN YT "sources" to only two. If you want to revert/remove further, goes without saying i will not contest it... --Quite A Character (talk) 20:37, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Seems the IP took no offence of me trimming down the tsunami of YT videos, maybe a compromise has been reached and we can keep those two (or maybe just one, whatever you decide), after all they show FRENCH sports broadcasters correctly pronouncing his name. --Quite A Character (talk) 23:15, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Troublesome user?

Regarding the last warning you left in this user's page (plase see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Aavelarx), just to notify you they went at it in Thiago Motta with the same M.O., and I reverted. Was I correct? --Quite A Character (talk) 09:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

  • Whatever, reverted myself, sick and tired of this lack of consensus (furthermore, as Mr. Motta won many accolades, maybe the runner-ups are not deemed necessary)! If you choose to re-revert, that's your call ;) --Quite A Character (talk) 11:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Richarlison has moved to Everton. I added this and you said I was vandalising. Quite rude. Hazo120 (talk) 18:44, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

You didn't provide a support to verify your claim, and considering you've quite a prolific history for adding unsourced content, I feel it's quite fair to describe the edit as vandalism. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:47, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

RS

Hello, do you know if this can be considered RS? Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 20:47, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Lee Grant

I understand what you mean about pre-season not usually being notable, but since the game I wrote about was Grant's Manchester United debut, don't you think it warrants a mention? The business User:Aurora 99 put in about his temporary squad number can go for sure, but... debut! – PeeJay 16:04, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Surely only *competitive* debuts are worthy of mention? We don't include pre-season friendlies in our statistics, so why would we in the prose? Mattythewhite (talk) 16:09, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
If it's the first time a player has *ever* played for a club, I think it's worth mentioning in the prose. Totally agreed on stats, of course, but to me prose is supposed to include content that you wouldn't necessarily include in a summary box or table. – PeeJay 23:17, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Bootham Crescent scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that I've scheduled Bootham Crescent to appear on the main page as today's featured article on August 31, 2018. If you need to make tweaks to the blurb, it is at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 31, 2018. Ealdgyth - Talk 16:37, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

Which is 82 years to the day since the ground was officially opened. Good stuff. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:29, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

I've finished all the others, and we're on the clock here, so I'll get started ... jump in if you like, or you can edit it after I'm done. - Dank (push to talk) 17:48, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
Although I've always been an Anglophile, British English isn't my native language, so please check my work. The character count is near the upper end of what's acceptable at TFA (given that we're also listing the Featured Topic). - Dank (push to talk) 21:19, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

User:Ergotelis123

An disruptive as can be, as the name indicates works on players of his favourite club. Engages in overlinking like no tomorrow, adds no refs to their "texts" and creates statistical charts using ZEROZERO.PT (user-generated) as "source".

Some good examples? Beto (Brazilian footballer, born 1976) or Manoel Júnior, which i have already reverted (in the latter, they removed the reliable FORADEJOGO.NET link without one word in the summary, but kept ZEROZERO, with this last web also being used to "source" Júnior's storyline). I would appreciate your intake, if it's not too much trouble.

Morgan Schneiderlin

Hi, I have noticed that the same user you've warned just a couple of days ago has changed Mr Schneiderlin's number from 2 to 18 however, I still believe that would be unsourced content as the official Everton website has not yet updated their squad numbers (plus 18 is currently reserved for Gylfi Sigurðsson as time of this edit. Eurosport, like Soccerway, are notoriously unreliable for citing honours, because they list them regardless of whether the player actually won them. David Luiz was not involved in the 2018 FA Cup Final, so how do we know he received a medal? Mattythewhite (talk) 17:12, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

statto.com

Hello, Matty. I've seen your name in several football histories and, as you are an admin, I'd value your advice about something that's bothering me a bit.

I've been looking at season reviews for Preston and see that, in each of the introductions, statto.com has been cited as the source for historical content. I thought this looked dubious so I tried to click on the site to see what its historical content is like. I'm sure it isn't me or my browser but the site is inaccessible. I did a search for other articles which reference the site and picked out History of Brentford F.C. (1954–1986) as it covers an earlier period. From there, the Statto reference is accessible via Wayback and I see that the site terminated its coverage in 2016.

Do you think statto.com is reliable enough to be referenced up to 2016 or should I escalate it as an unreliable source? Presumably, any references to it in articles from 2016 should be removed?

Thanks very much for your time, Matty, and I hope York City are soon back in the League where they belong. Perhaps the new ground will do the trick. Izzat Kutebar (talk) 07:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

@Izzat Kutebar: The statto database was sold off in 2014 to Opta which is a gambling company. Angus Loughran who ran Statto was declared bankrupt in 2008 I am not sure when statto.com ceased but a fact of speaking if it was good enough in 2014 would suggest it was reliable up to 2014. Govvy (talk) 10:01, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, Govvy. That seems a good suggestion to me. The problem is that a couple or more guys are still including it as a default source when creating new articles. I've asked them not to and I'm removing it from the recent season reviews. Thanks again. Izzat Kutebar (talk) 13:30, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
I've used it quite a lot over the years and still do use archives of it on occasion. I've done a quick search of past discussions regarding Statto at WT:FOOTY, and @Struway2:'s comment on this thread suggests it probably wasn't a WP:RS. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:49, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
Interesting stuff. I'd say, then, that it was probably okay up to 2014 but it definitely shouldn't be in any article about the seasons since then. Struway is right about these people copying from the previous season. Thanks very much. Izzat Kutebar (talk) 14:58, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
I didn't think Statto.com had anything to do with Angus Loughran: Tony Brown mentions another name entirely, and it used the Soccerdata databases.
I would (and do) use the archive copies: I'd have no doubt about its accuracy but as it was never demonstrably RS, I'd use an alternative where available. The free pages at ENFA.co.uk (which is RS and accurate) and 11v11.com (RS but incomplete and difficult) do most of what statto did. Any page on here that claims Statto.com verifies content dated post-2015/16 has definitely just blindly copypasted, and if that's what the chap who creates and maintains many of the English season articles is doing, he wants a smack. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:23, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
@Struway2: The connection between Angus Loughran and John Sanders is Ladbrokes, they both worked for the company at the same time. Loughran provided statistical analysis and Sanders was on the database/programming side, statto evolved from there. Govvy (talk) 17:41, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. Pity really, if Mr Sanders was still with us, I imagine the site would be well accepted as RS by now. Still better than nothing, if the relevant archive pages exist. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:46, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Look at the utter mess (or better put, DISCREPANCY) that has been created in this player's article, even though the source #17 clearly says the Panamanian FA lists those matches as official! I am not going to change anything back, now Mr. Gómez will have 148 caps and 12 goals in some parts of the article, and 141/11 elsewhere, what do i care...

It's up to the person that performed the action (or you, should you see it fit) to undo it, hopefully my last edit summary won't be the issue here. Attentively, happy week --Quite A Character (talk) 03:30, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Thibaut Courtois

The transfer was already officially confirmed by Real Madrid on August 8th 2018 (https://www.realmadrid.com/en/news/2018/08/official-announcement-thibaut-courtois). The presentation will be on the 9th, but the transfer was completed on the 8th. Please remove page protection.Krughal (talk) 07:04, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Yes - just because the player hasn't been officially presented doesn't mean the transfer hasn't gone through. Several sources state the confirmation of the transfer with a €35 million figure. It is only because this move went through that Chelsea were more easily able to loan Mateo Kovacic. Please remove the page protection. LegitMass (talk) 07:25, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

On behalf of all the Wikipedia users, I'm kindly asking you to remove the page protection because the transfer concerning his move to Real Madrid has taken place. Both the Chelsea and Real Madrid websites have confirmed this information. You can check at https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2018/8/8/courtois-and-kovacic-deals-agreed and https://www.realmadrid.com/en/news/2018/08/official-announcement-thibaut-courtois respectively. TB Chigz (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Was coming here to ask you the same. Per this, the transfer is now official, but you've protected the page so that even long established editors can't edit it. Valenciano (talk) 12:27, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi Matty, as the transfer has now been confirmed and completed, I have removed the full protection. Hope this is ok. Fish+Karate 12:54, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Valenciano and Fish and karate, as you point out the transfer is now complete.
To the impatient users above: It would be of great benefit if you would actually read, in full, and with care, the sources you say supported your assertion that the move had been completed. Per Real Madrid's statement dated 8 August: Courtois would be presented after "the medical that will take place tomorrow". A transfer cannot be complete without a medical having already taken place. Per the Chelsea statement dated 8 August: "Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical" (my bold).
The transfer is now undoubtedly complete, but in future can we wait for transfers to be 100% final before we go updating BLPs with content that is factually incorrect. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 14:44, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

question regarding IP user

Hi mate, was going to report this IP to admins but didn't see a category it fitted into really, User:2A02:C7F:4808:B500:7D30:95CC:8224:E863 keeps adding a squad number for Harvey Barnes on Leicester City F.C. squad section, the player was left out of the press release so while he may have one there is no confirmation of that, I keep removing it but any suggestions to help solve this? Please stop accepting edits on Andy Murray

Hello. Sorry, but this is just too much. Please stop accepting edits on Andy Murray. How could you accept an edit that has been reverted a million times before, discussed very thoroughly on the talk page, with clear consensus reached, and the comment immediately surrounding the expression clearly saying that this cannot be changed without discussion? And this is not the first time you accepted something so massively ignorant on this page. These ignorant edits are the reason why the page is protected. When you accept them, it completely defeats the purpose of the protection. I can't believe an admin can keep doing something so monumentally silly. So please keep off that page. You do not really seem competent enough for accepting edits there. Thanks.—J. M. (talk) 22:39, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Wow. You do realise it's not me actually *adding* the content, right? Perhaps directing some of your ire at *them* for editing improperly might be an idea...? Mr Murray's article now removed from my watchlist, for the sake of your blood pressure, for myself not having to be on the receiving end of any more Sunday night earbashings, and of course to protect the project from my sheer incompetence. Hi, I've reverted your reversion on the edits I made to the Premier League season articles. The text I added back in was removed in November 2017. For a couple other seasons, the removal was reverted very quickly, but for the seasons I added back in, they were not (possibly missed by the undoing editor.) I agree with you sourcing is a problem, but the prose should be easily sourced. If you think this should still be deleted, please let me know - I have no intention of going back and forth on this. Higuain protection

Hi. Can you semi protect Gonzalo Higuaín for a while, it's taking too long at rfpp and vandalism seems to be occurring between very short intervals. Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:46, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Semi-protected for one week. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:13, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
I think it would be prudent also to protect Mattia Caldara‎ and Leonardo Bonucci for the same rumoured swap as Higuaín; lots of recent addition of unsourced move. Thanks. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:14, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Mario Mandžukić protection from hopping IPs removal of sourced content. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:59, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Matty please, what's WP intake on third-party sources? Unless i'm much mistaken, they are considered preferable to official webs and akin are they not? My attempts to convey that at this article were deemed "a joke", as my correction of the IP's English.

Could you please go to the IP's talk page and leave your two cents there? In the process, i too will learn in case my memory of third-party sources is betraying me (P.S. please note i remove none of their sources as opposed to them, i merely keep both approaches and correct the language, but they're having none of that) and of course will stop i i'm the one in the wrong.

  • Been reverted again, IP engages in no compromise whatsoever. --Quite A Character (talk) 00:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
You're right, and I've left a message on their TP explaining as such. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:19, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Reverted again (this time only the wording), they "allowed" the refs to stay. They still think guidelines are a joke, while committing some gross errors in English. Oh well, i'm prepared to accept that compromise... --Quite A Character (talk) 00:48, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Even though i am trying my "bestest" to stay cool, conversation at IP's talkpage quickly escalating, do you have some advice as always? --Quite A Character (talk) 02:22, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Please drop by there when you can, the IP still thinks guideline has been grossly misrepresented in Mr. Celades' case, and some of their replies are really not "reaching my ears right", why they are choosing to reply like that i do not know... I am done for the day (if not more) with this discussion... --Quite A Character (talk) 02:27, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Escalated and how!! IP has now resorted to name-calling (massive troll) even though i confess with my heart in my hands i am having major trouble understanding what they are trying to convey. Maybe you two sort it out tomorrow, you read the flow of the conversation and decide who's trying to reach out and who's trying to be a wanker/troll. Until tomorrow. --Quite A Character (talk) 03:13, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

End of discussion there, end of my cheerful approach. The insults (troll, liar, you will also see their urging me to stop 1: using words in Spanish - which i did just originally to be friendly; 2: mentioning my country, which i overdid because i did not notice i had already mentioned it once, so originally i did it TWICE, criminal on my part wouldn't you say? These last ones - regarding my part - you won't see them now without checking the edit history because i since edited them at the IP's request/order) continue to fly, you two sort it out either there or at the article's talkpage (PLEASE do so, i would really like to see if the IP's demeanor is the same towards you as it was towards me). Since i wish Mr. Celades, the IP or WP in general no harm, i'll stop adding anything to this ridiculous thread. Not the article though, should i see it fit (by the way, i used an expletive in my last message to the IP and you can scold me for it should you see it fit, but mind you t'was an EXPLETIVE, not an INSULT, i just lost it There maybe more further replies at their talk, but i'll just ignore them for today)! --Quite A Character (talk) 03:26, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

P.S. Should you understand what they are trying to convey immediately, whereas i failed miserably, i can only come to the conclusion i am mentally challenged, because no way i am a miserable troll (you have known me for more than a wiki-decade, that's certainly not the case, is it?)! --Quite A Character (talk) 04:06, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

  • No can do, just returned to the IPs page and the reply is the same ("Ignoring my questions", "manipulator", "liar", "troll"). Maybe a stern message from you (should you agree with me and disagree with their M.O, of course!) will stop this shit? I have great problems dealing with virtual relationships when they go bad, and this is really taking its toll (i know it should not, but it is). --Quite A Character (talk) 14:15, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
The individual in question ought to be careful accusing people of trolling when looking at their own behaviour. I think you are right to cease engaging with them. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:24, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

But can you please add a few words in their page, stating NOTHING of what i did constitutes trolling and i only respected the guidelines and tried to reach consensus? I understand if you do not, however. --Quite A Character (talk) 15:42, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

I don't think it would help the situation, and I wouldn't worry about what anyone else might think. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:55, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

Rude Admin

You really do not need to be so rude. Some of us are trying and enjoy editing and may get it wrong. Quite frankly you should be removed as an admin for your attitude. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CowChasingKirk (talkcontribs) 18:47, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, could you point out where I've been rude to you? I'm aware I've left a few warnings on your talk page regarding unsourced and improperly sourced content, but I don't feel I've in any way been rude or displayed a bad attitude. If you're not satisfied with my response, you could post a thread at WP:AN/I expressing how you feel. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 19:07, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Please can you just accept that some of us forget to add sources rarther than trying to threaten us with a block, I usally add sources how ever with Jesus Navas and Martin Montaya I forgotten add the sources and this incidents were a year apart showing that they happen rarely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ralphster7 (talkcontribs) 20:37, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Jake Charles

I can confirm that Jake Charles is a free agent, having spoken to him myself. I didn't realise LinkedIn wasn't always an acceptable source so that is fair enough that has been removed but I do not know how else to prove he is a free agent now. He is not listed on Stalybridge Celtic squad on their website here and there is not a player profile on him on their website either. Cam (talk) 13:58, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

His profile on the Stalybridge Celtic website confirms he left the club at the end of the season. I've updated the article using that as a source. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:59, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

Hello Matty,

1 - what do you think of my move(s) at Lucas João? If you check both his Portuguese external links (and FORADEJOGO is reliable), de "dos" bit is not part of his fullname as the EFL website seems to state. It is not obligatory that everyone in Portugal has that naming custom ("dos", "da", "do", "de"), i myself do but not everyone does. What should we do (and please note i did not remove the EFL source, only removed the - seemingly - wrong naming addition)? Add FDJ also as source to box? If you choose to revert, please keep in mind bit should be presented as "dos Santos" and not "Dos Santos".

2 - strange note (at least strange to ME, first time i saw one of those in 12 years) at Alberto Botía, reading the piece thoroughly i fail to see any "Blatant copyright violations" there. Also, as the main writer/curator of the piece i have to say i feel a little unease with that note, surely not ALL the text is sourced, but no BLATANT copyvio disturbances have been "afoot" i'd say (or if they have, they have already been deleted). Read it EVEN better, the ONLY thing that seems not to be sourced was his early international career, i have already addressed that (and +1 source to honours as a "bonus" :))!

3 - Are we forbidden (for lack of a better word) of writing countries where a club hails from in articles? User:The Original Statto (seemingly an A.C. Milan fan) seems to think so, wrote them about the fact, received zilch in reply (and they have edited after my message). I know some prefer to write league instead of country in the intro and in fact a pertinent template as been recently created with that need in mind, but i don't mean just that: the aforementioned user does not allow ANY references being made to X or Y country, ANYWHERE (finest example at André Silva (footballer, born 1995), they removed it once, i wrote it elsewhere to accommodate and they did it again...)!

Attentively (and please do notify me if you still have any concerns regarding Mr. Botía's article) --Quite A Character (talk) 18:00, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

1. You should update the source, as the current EFL source doesn't support what the full name is now listed as.
2. It doesn't seem immediately obvious to me what the copyvio is. You should contact the user who added the tag.
3. If the league is in a country not native to the player I think it would be beneficial to include it. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:00, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

1. Okeydokey, added additional source; 2. Tag removed as of now. 3. No mate, i think you misunderstood me, i do include (in intro or body of text) the league, the other user is adamant about not mentioning the COUNTRY where the given league takes place. --Quite A Character (talk) 04:30, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

I got that, I'm saying the country is probably worth including if the league is in a country not native to the player. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:15, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, my (gross) bad in reading! Well, all arranged as of now (compromise reached in Mr. Silva's Milan section) --Quite A Character (talk) 17:24, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Craig Nelthorpe

Hi Matty - sorry, seems in this case I should have checked the Ossett United team list rather than just assuming as linked on the team list he was there on the team's wiki page. I've had a look on the usual sources (nonleague sites) for news of his current club but none to hand. Any suggestions on what to do - he cannot be at Ossett Town as the club ceased to exist in the summer of 2018 after the merger of Ossett Town and Ossett Albion [See https://www.ossettunited.com/club/History/]. Article is wrong as it stands but in short can't find a source to show he's signed for a new club (possibly as he is club-less) Cheers Zanoni (talk) 15:36, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

He signed for Belper Town a few days ago, I've updated the article accordingly. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:38, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Ah, cheers - saw he had been on trial there but hadn't seen an article on him signing. Zanoni (talk) 15:42, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

If you feel my edits were not verified why did you not revert them then? Is it because the are accurate perhaps! Don't leave comments on my talk page, I have made it clear in the past I do not wish to converse with you.--Johnelwaq (talk) 18:32, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Charming

Woke up today on my birthday to this charming message on my talkpage (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Quite_A_Character&diff=855721524&oldid=855636466). A thorough and polite reply on their talk (but of course i: 1 - told them i agreed my summaries were a bit idiotic sometimes and needed a severe overhaul - ah, but please do note NONE were directed at this person! 2 - told them i think an apology from them was in order) resulted in the confirmation of what they think of me (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:N778899&diff=855788038&oldid=855787262).

Your intake please? Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 21:12, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Warned for making a personal attack. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:26, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Did not even bothered you with a reply, hey (and please, note that nothing has been removed from my/their talkpage like your message to them said, but that's not of the essence methinks, even if it had they'd still have said/written them)? Well, like i told them, i should consider myself lucky if i don't get name-called again (some might say i brought this upon me with my summaries and i would somewhat agree, but i'd also say they're nobody's business unless the given person is directly affected, and i've stressed to the bone i would not budge if scolded/blocked because somewhere down the line my summaries could be considered (i try my "bestest" to avoid that, but stuff happens) incivility/personal attacks). Oh well...

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 15:14, 21 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Can i ask again what did you mean by "removed" stuff regarding this situation? Message at my talk page and their nasty replies at their "territory" remain unaltered. Again, just curious. Request now, can you please protect José Pedrosa Galán? A no-good IP continues to remove refs in article, inflate the stats in infobox and rephrase wording to their advantage. Who could it be? Mr. Pedrosa himself? A friend? A girlfriend? An AGENT? We'll never know, i guess!

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 00:46, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

I hadn't realised that "so it has been removed" was part of the wording of Template:Uw-npa1. I've now struck out the uncivil comments.
There's been only one disruptive edit made on the article in the last four days, which I feel doesn't warrant any form of protection. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:04, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

1 - thanks, hopefully now i won't be insulted for being a bellend AND a crybaby! 2 - nope, i beg to differ: this one (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/37.211.142.35) is also the IP nuisance, "contributed" on 17 and 23 July, then found the last address from where they "contributed" in the last hours but also on 18 August. But OK, you're the boss. --Quite A Character (talk) 01:19, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

I'll be damned, one IP from Spain and the other from Asia! Well, the M.O. is exactly the SAME (ref removal, box inflation, etc)! --Quite A Character (talk) 01:20, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

While on the topic of civility, would you mind providing me with a translation of this comment, and perhaps an explanation as to why you felt it an appropriate comment to make? Mattythewhite (talk) 01:41, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Yes, this time i proferred an insult in Portuguese ("motherfucker"), and did not attempt to hide anything from you because i wrote MYS77 before thinking of coming to your page. This person is really being a supreme wikinuisance and it's really pissing me off (and it should piss you off as well, but obviously i'm not going to tell you how to feel other than what i just did), if not by me most of the time (and MYS now and then) this article would be vandalised at will. But hey, who cares, fourth or fifth-world player...

Full translation as follows (and per your request): "Nothing to do with the title of this message, but that motherfucker is still at it in José Pedrosa Galán! What a shame..." (followed by "They have reverted me again. i have requested protection :("). If you want you can block me, it's deserving under the guidelines and the discussions i've had with many people in the past (yourself included, and more than one of you right now could be thinking that i pretty much think i'm above the law, i can say what i want, then say "excuse me" and continue with my antics sine die), i won't budge. Don't worry about protecting the page in spite of the evidence presented if you do not see it fit (but do note it was protected last month, for three days), i'll watchlist it.

Sorry for the inconvenience created (i'll promise you this here and now, no more idiotic summaries from yours truly regarding the average edit, a PROMISE. If you see one of those, block me on the spot - that is, if you are not going to perform that action now. However, i cannot promise you the same if it has to do with vandalism, as was this case) --Quite A Character (talk) 02:21, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

By my reckoning, "filho de uma grande puta" has a meaning more similar to what Nicolas Anelka said to get himself thrown out of the France camp at the 2010 World Cup than what you claim. This wouldn't be first time you've deliberately mistranslated your own words in an attempt to mislead me. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:35, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Nope, no intention to mislead, i thought in some instances "motherfucker" meant the same as "son of a whore". OK, full and 100% accurate translation (of start, that is) is: ""Nothing to do with the title of this message, but that BIG SON OF A WHORE is still at it in José Pedrosa Galán! What a shame...". I'd have to tell you now, in all sincerity i feel a bit insulted by your last comment, i put my heart out in the last message (not to mention discussing technicalities in Mr. Galán's article) and your entire reply consists in telling me i want to mislead you (when parts of my original message mentioned you could block me if you saw it fit, and also me confirming i used an INSULT and not an EXPLETIVE)? I really do not understand, but i will now stay a couple of weeks without coming to your page for advice/akin to let the dust settle (and "double nope", i am not playing the victim now, i know i insulted a user - a VANDAL user! - and it's highly contrary to the guidelines, but i thought no-good vandals would always be trumped by 99,99999999999999999% of other approaches so to speak).

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 17:32, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Thought i'd merit some sort of reply after being called a liar (with respect, you did precisely that, since in your opinion i DELIBERATELY ommitted information to MISLEAD you) then coming to your page and politely saying i felt offended. That's OK, at least i appreciate the sincerity (not being sarcastic the least, i do appreciate it as sad as reading your words may be) of you telling me your thoughts on my person (not the first this week, unfortunately).

Now, i'll stop posting here for a while until the dust settles. Question is: do you want me to stop altogether, if you feel if have seen through me or whatever? I can accommodate and not bother you anymore, lots of other good admins/users out there.

FC Barcelona article edit warring

One editor is repeatedly inserting a trophy into the honours section of F.C. Barcelona without any discussion. They disregard any discussion on the talk page and keep reverting. I’ve reverted twice so I’m stopping before I do three reverts myself. The user has also done this to the Real Madrid honours section, removing all European Cups. Help needed. Sorry, I didn't see the bit in the loan section. I've removed the duplicated content. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:32, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Andreas Christensen

Hello, I don't get what you mean by "Sources don't support content". I've had to double-check and search for the most authentic sources of the information about his honours, yet you deleted them; twice. Please, I'd like to understand why. Thank you--Pst. Bukkie (talk) 23:02, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

They confirm that *Chelsea* won those honours but not that *Christensen* himself did. And please note that Wikipedia can't be used as a source on Wikipedia. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:04, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Come on, those were for the "team" honours, not individual. It's not like I can find an article always for each player on a team winning a team trophy. Ademas, I had looked through a lot of team honours citation on other players and they do not necessarily state the individual.
I only stated the wikipedia pages as a double measure to prove that he was part of the squad that won the competition and therefore should be recognised as a winner
Also, for the individual honours and the Youth Team honours, the references were quite specific. Please revise your decision please. Thank you :)--Pst. Bukkie (talk) 23:11, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
I'd say it's quite simple really. If the player was involved in the final, it can be easily sourced. If they weren't, it's not so simple. The FA hand out 40 medals to winning clubs, but it's very difficult to find out who actually received them. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:15, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Ok, let's consider them individually;
1. All 23 "First Team Players" (especially Christensen that played in the competition) gets a medal ( at least in the league cup competitions)
2. If you take a look at the reference I provided for the UEFA League Cup, it shows the team lineup with Christensen on the team for the final (even scored an own goal)
3. The Young Player of the Year Award could not be better sourced. He did win it and I duly cited a reliable source
4. For the 2015 EPL season, then team manager, Mourinho said (and it is quoted within the article) that Christensen would get a medal nonetheless despite not featuring up to 5 times
Kindly look through the contributions before reverting please. Thank you :) --Pst. Bukkie (talk) 23:28, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
I'm in the process of restoring the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League. Can you provide evidence for your claim about League Cup meals? Mourinho is referring to a replica medal from the club, not an official medal from the Premier League, for which Mr Christensen did not qualify. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:36, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Lol I give up. Just let it be. Ow, also the individual award too, that was spot on ;) Gracias--Pst. Bukkie (talk) 23:38, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
I'm restoring that too. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:39, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

It's VERY annoying to be mid-way through editing following a player transfer for it to be reversed with no good reason. A citation was on it way, but if you're that bothered do it yourself. Trequartbeasta (talk) 20.25 01/09/2018

Hello Matty, I see that you have been having sourcing problems with Steven a91 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Could I also ask you to look at this users contributions to the Waitrose article. They have constantly inserted unsourced material on Waitrose uniforms and, more importantly, company name. They have now reverted over three times and from their Talk page appear to have a poor editing history , as well as not signing some excuses for inserting non-referenced changes. Can I leave this with you please? Regards, David, David J Johnson (talk) 16:39, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

infobox updates.

I was curious why you're matching my date and time from the league update, copying it over to national update. Shouldn't you be matching to either the actual last update of the national caps update or todays date? Govvy (talk) 21:38, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Probably the latter. When I update stats I update both the club and national team parameters simultaneously. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:40, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I just thought it was a bit odd that you matched to my tilde update. heh. Govvy (talk) 21:49, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
It's just a little thing, but I kind of like seeing the date of the actual last national caps update, it also kind of shows when that play got that last cap. Govvy (talk) 21:51, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
But it could also leave the reader wondering if, after weeks and months of not being updated, the international stats are actually up to date. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:56, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello there, i do not wish to bother or impose but i have this doubt: I more or less heard about a discussion that was being held regarding this subject's football club, but can you please tell me in a nutshell what it is all about?

Also, i wouldn't see any problem of at least compressing the club in the infobox (he played for only one Bournemouth so far), but whatever. Attentively, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 23:41, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Struway could probably offer a better summary, but the club is more commonly known with "AFC" included, and feel that this should be reflected here. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:29, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

I see... thanks for your reply, anyway. @Struway2: has proceeded to explain the naming situation thoroughly, point taken by me. --Quite A Character (talk) 06:10, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

To show why the AFC is included, I quote your "he played for only one Bournemouth so far" and say, he hasn't played for the Poppies yet, then? Britmax (talk) 10:04, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi there.

Please may you stop deleting perfectly good updates like the update I did to Solly March.

You think you're just some sort of wikipedia King but you delete things that are correct and change it into something that isn't.

Get your facts right!

Cheers.

Hi Harry, while you're here would you mind answering the question I left on your talk page re you editing using IP addresses? Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 19:01, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Solly March

Hi again.

Thanks for recorrecting March's Brighton stats. Please may you leave his Lewes stat on the career statistics because it is an official stat and it should be shown under his career statistics.

Cheers.

Beeney. Harry J Beeney (talk) 20:47, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Can you provide a reliable source for his Lewes appearances? Mattythewhite (talk) 20:50, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey Matty, I have no problem with your revert, but wondered if you had any input on this? Thanks, Nzd (talk) 12:52, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Replied on article talk page. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:00, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

WOW, they have now learned how to use the "undo" feature, and also remove TWO refs instead of just one with the previous M.O. Rest assured, i won't lose my cool now in summaries and/or messages to others (just revert and ignore, you do the blocking if you see it fit), but i know exactly what i feel about this person and their "contributions"...

I’m upset

Basically no better than trump. You’ve got a self inflated ego and think you’re the king. Block me again. Idiot Tickamoomoo17 (talk) 22:18, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

1 - I think i was on the right to revert most of User:Eliasrexofficial's additions to the article. They pretty much wrote ALL the goals the subject has scored thus far in his career, overlinking in the process (WP:OVERDETAIL and WP:OVERLINK).

If you beg to differ, please notify me of where, in your opinion, i came up short. Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 22:25, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

No issue with me, said user does have a habit of adding too much detail. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:37, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

2 - Houston, we may have a problem! Remember the Salvadoran chap you reverted a couple of times for removing pics without a reason in Gerard López (that's one example, they do that in many more articles, for example Winston Bogarde, Albert Celades or Richard Dutruel)? They also have the custom of adding references that source nothing of what the sentence says. In Mágico González, starting on 13 March 2018 and with THREE different addresses, they did just that (ref#1, for example, speaks of his 60th birthday), I tried to clean it up the best I could.

Speaking of Mr. González's article, it's safe to remove FC Barcelona from the infobox is it not (it keeps getting added, with no summary of course!)? He went on trial with them, but never signed an actual contract after a fire broke out in the team's hotel during training camp (if the title of source #24 is not clear enough, its seventh paragraph reads "Todo el mundo desalojó el complejo, menos Mágico, que seguía impasible en la habitación. A la entidad culé no le gustó su actitud y declinó su contratación.", meaning "Everybody cleared the compound, except Mágico, who remained in his room as if nothing. The culé organization did not like his attitude and voted against his signing.").

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 10:55, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

  • No opinion whatsoever on item #2? --Quite A Character (talk) 09:16, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
    • Indeed, if he didn't sign the club shouldn't be in the infobox. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:38, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Just checked Mr. Asensio's EUROPEAN FOOTBALL entry and today's game is still not there (ended 20 minutes ago or so)... But it will, undoubtedly! --Quite A Character (talk) 21:09, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

They have it now, i knew it (they do tend to update the player's pages minutes after matches end)! --Quite A Character (talk) 21:12, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Re:

Here, just because it's pre-season doesn't mean it's shouldn't be mentioned. He did returned to Real Madrid for ICC and appeared in all of their 3 games http://www.espn.com/soccer/club/real-madrid/86/blog/post/3595869/real-madrid-must-give-martin-odegaard-time-to-develop-jan-aage-fjortoft Best regards Shizenhakka (talk) 00:24, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
