List of Delta Sigma Theta chapters[edit]

Can you work on the intro to List of Delta Sigma Theta chapters while you're at it? It's very non-standard, and the about hatnote at the top of the article is redundant. —C.Fred(talk) 19:17, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I also put a Gentle Help note on her talk page. I mentioned you as well, I think she'll need help from more than one of us and I wanted her to know that we both are in GLOs and have worked on their pages (and I've probably made the single chapter list on wikipedia that makes this one look dinky). I think that this could be a wonderful list, but it will need a lot of work (the number of redlinks on the colleges is scary).Naraht (talk) 19:21, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for jumping in and doing that. I'm short on time today—hence my comment that I'll provide a idea of how the list could be put together later on. She is using another GLO's list as a template, which is good—the problem is that it does some suboptimal things also. —C.Fred (talk) 19:29, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw the comment on your table page that she was using List of Phi Beta Sigma chapters, it just means that we have to fix things in two places. 1/2 :) I actually prefer charter order (and because that occasionally has glitches, snow storms and things), greek letter order. (and having Alpha Alpha before Beta is annoying). I did see a template that allowed for sorting based on Greek Letter chapters putting ΑΒΓ into the template gave a hidden sort order of 010203, and putting Δ in generates a 000004, but I'm not quite sure what the name is, maybe that could be added and allow sorts...Naraht (talk) 19:38, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Under normal circumstances I would say the lists should be split since they are so huge, but I'm sure DST Headquarters would want all chapters to remain on one list.184.60.10.45 (talk) 01:10, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Immigratty (talk) 01:11, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Delta Sigma Theta Chapters[edit]

Thanx. I can find out. I actually know the exact date deep in the recesses of my brain, but can't manage to pull it out [that's what more than ten years will do to memory  :-(} we do call our national meetings "conventions" we are the only of the nphc Sororities to do so. All three of the others call them "Boule." I've made some significant changes [even since yesterday, when I said all new changes would be minor] but I was determined to have a complete listing of chapters. However, I am quickly realizing that many of the chapters that were unavailable were former alumnae chapters that were never reassigned to undergraduate institutions. so there are several "Alphas" and "Betas" that no longer exist. :-( —Preceding unsigned comment added byImmigratty (talkcontribs) 21:11, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of Delta Sigma Theta Chapters[edit]

Funny you ask about Chapters, as I made a list [below]. And the chapter you're talking about [ten years later than others in the area] is most likely Sigma Chapter at Clark Atlanta University, but they were the originally designated Chapters. However, they initially included Spelman, Clark, Morris Brown, Atlanta University, and generally all grad and undergrads in Atlanta, however in 1931 they were chartered specifically on the campus of Clark Atlanta University. For some reason, they use the 1931 date, instead of the original 1921 date, which is weird, because I was made at Mighty TAU Chapter, and the same thing happened, we were initially grad and undergrad, and May 13, 1939, we were chartered specifically to the Campus of Wayne State University, however, we use the 1924 date, as most chapters do, since our school was actually included on the original charter, and it wasn't a reassign like Eta and Theta where we were not originally a part. Not sure why they do it, but that's what they do. And thanx, you're giving me much encouragement to keep making it better. this is my first wikipedia page, and I'm super excited, I wanted to have one comprehensive list of all chapters, so I figured why sit around and wait when I could just do it myself! Thanx for all of your help. So anyway, here is a list of the missing chapters:

Alpha Psi Eta Mu Pi Rho Beta Xi Nu Xi Rho Sigma Beta Omega Nu Pi Sigma Kappa Delta Sigma Xi Mu Sigma Sigma Epsilon Lambda Xi Sigma Tau Xi Epsilon Sigma Omicron Sigma

List of Delta Sigma Theta Chapters[edit]

the list I have, is a list I received from someone else, who received it from HQ, so there's not really anything I can cite. Dissolved = retired, but we say "retired." And yes "mixed" means grad and undergrad, which was ceased in the 1930's. I'll be sure to look over everything. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Immigratty(talkcontribs) 21:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Delta Sigma Theta Chapters[edit]

eventually graduate chapters did end in the letter Sigma, however, for a period of time, they were assigned greek letters that did not end in SIgma. for instance, New York Alumnae Chapter was once Alpha Alpha, DC Alumnae Chapter was Beta Beta, Denver was Beta Phi, etc. I'm not concerned about the triple letter chapters, since there are no triple letter chapters, even still to date, those will not conflict, I'm more concerned about the chapters that had "typical" undergrad nomenclature that were never reassigned.

List of Delta Sigma Theta Chapters[edit]

I really don't want to change the way the list is. I like the division based on letter it starts with, I don't want to make it one large list, it would be too much. I would also prefer to keep the chapters combined, but if you would like to split the graduate chapters, that would be fine as well. I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying about the graduate chapters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Immigratty (talkcontribs) 01:48, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I like how the alumnae chapters are currently formatted [first option] where it's the chapter and the location.

Can you help me find featured articles of events? I can't seem to find a guideline/manual of style that covers events. It'll be good if we can use something as a basis. Moray An Par(talk) 05:30, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What are your opinions to the now five-version history? It's headache, yes? How are we going to summarize the history in the lead? I would also like to suggest removing the themes section and merging/summarizing it with the lead. I'm planning on including a criticisms section, and merging the Bar exams section with it. What a tangled possible history. In this case with so many different stories from secondary sources, would going to a primary source (http://oblationrun.apo-phil.org) make sense? Also, If we can find a photo from Diliman, I would prefer it, most of the other campuses are much more recent.Naraht (talk) 12:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No info about the run is found in the said site. Only videos covering it. First paragraph uses this as source. No photo in Commons, Flickr doesn't have very descriptive pictures of it (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=oblation%20run%20diliman). Moray An Par (talk) 13:04, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think that would count as a good source. I think there may be disputes even within the newspaper/magazine articles in in http://www.upapo.org/category/oblation-run/ . (Including Play vs. Film)

Female Oblation Run[edit]

Do you think if ever that a photo from news sources be included in the article, the said photo will pass fair use? It's a one time significant event. Moray An Par (talk) 17:02, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, one time event, and the brothers of Eta chapter aren't interested in having the sisters join them. At least *that* photo will be from UPD. (Still hoping I can find a picture from gov.ph, but no luck at images.google.com. :( )Naraht (talk) 17:20, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am contacting you because of your edit here.

Please take a look at my edithere. The purpose is to make the blue area of the table narrower. In other words, the objective is to expand the width of the area in which the Japanese era names are listed. What do you think?

Please construe "Momoyama period" as an historical equivalent of Azuchi-Momoyama period in this limited context. For example, please compare image of 1927 monograph title page here. See also, Bardwell L. Smith. (1987). "Japanese Society and Culture in the Momoyama Era: a Bibliographic Essay," in Warlords, Artists, & Commoners: Japan in the Sixteenth Century, p. 245, p. 245, at Google Books; excerpt (at bottom of page),

"This era is often termed, especially by art historians, the Azuchi-Momoyama period, after the two great castles built on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa and in Fushimi, to the south of Kyoto, by Nobunaga and Hideyoshi respectively ...."

Having invested some time in reviewing this table's format, may I ask you to also take a look at the similar format of Template:Japan Old Province? Do you have constructive criticism? --Tenmei (talk) 20:17, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My interest in the tables is to make certain that there are no redirects in the templates. (I fixed Hokkaidō on the second template). As for the changes that you made to the Japanese Era template, that looks fine. I like the way that you broke it up and reordered it. The light grey for the years is a little tough to see, maybe a *little* darker. As for the Second template, It looks OK to me. I have no idea why the order is what it is of the regions or the order of the provinces within the regions...
Aha, I misunderstood. I guessed wrong when I thought that your interest in "redirect" had something to do with Wikipedia:Piped link. When I saw the red font as a result of your edit here, I mistakenly thought that you were correcting an earlier edit of mine. I had piped "[[Azuchi-Momoyama period|Momoyama period]]" ... which is why I explained. I was answering a question which had not been asked.

Thank you for mentioning the order of the regions and the order of the provinces. The basis for the sequencing was established in the 8th century -- if you're interested, see Gokishichidō. I didn't notice something which is taken for granted. I didn't imagine an alternative until your words tweaked my perspective. You see questions I didn't think to ask.

Perhaps in our English environment, alphabetic order would be more readily accessible to all? I will investigate consensus opinions here at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan. --Tenmei (talk) 04:15, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Finally[edit]

Finally a friendly face on my talk page! I don't get this at all, but after 4 edits I, a new user, start getting attacked with inconsistent acts and statements. See my talk page, and 5 albert square, and Nesnema's. Can you explain this contradictory behavior? Makes no sense to me. PumpkinSky (talk) 01:42, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a rough night for various people... The beginnings of the edits that they made to your talk pages are from templates and some of them just add one level to what was there before. I'd ask both of them nicely to remove the template additions that they made because it is likely that the next person who has an issue with an edit will look at them and think worse of you. At this point, you aren't gaining anything with the continual additions to User talk:5 albert square and User talk:Nasnema . I'd suggest simply dropping it. Maybe (on both) just going something like, "I wish the comments had been more constructive". Your edits on Névé and Red Star Line look fine. You may want to look at Template:Official_website for situations like the Red Star Line.Naraht(talk) 02:11, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but I'll drop it when they provide satisfactory explanations for their contradictory behaviors, ie, answer the last two posts on their talk pages. No one, especially not a newbie should be treated like this. PumpkinSky (talk) 02:15, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Then at least stop adding things to the talk pages and take it down a notch. Things can rapidly get out of hand in without emotional cues. The statement of "You'll have to run those by me again. I've admitted reverting a a couple of edits in error." from User Talk:Nasnema is at least somewhat of an apology. And I'm redoing your change on Donald W. Loveland with references. I'd ask User Talk:5 albert square if the article after I make the change is OK. Hopefully that will end the disputes over that page. And User Talk:5 albert square's revert on the Donald W. Loveland article did indicate that he thought the change was in good faith. I've asked him to pull back on the Warning level. (Heading to bed now)Naraht (talk) 02:26, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
5 Albert Square hasn't edited yet, but Nesnema has and is ignoring me. I'm owed an explanation for their contradictory, selective, and hypocritical behavior. Was that any way for them to greet new people? Hell no! Such behavior is totally unacceptable at any time. I have a "watch" set on your page now, no need to notify me.PumpkinSky (talk) 08:51, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help Needed[edit]

HI, I amMichael Parks, the college student working on the Bert Oliva page...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Michaelparks/Bert_Oliva

I need some help with getting it out there... someone from the old article posted pictures from different newspapers and magazines(now I'm glad i copied everything from the original article). I was wondering if I can use those? Newspapers like the Miami Herald and business magazines are all reliable sources, so i went to each link that was posted and downloaded each picture... what can i do with this? How do i show this as evidence? Also one wikipedia mediator or something a said that it would be okay if i just had the name of the media(Miami Herlad/Biz Bash/etc.) and date that that would be an exception to not having the actual article accessible on the internet. Also! I checked out some of his videos and you can see him on NBC, CBS, CNN and other big names. I understand if someone just told me this stuff but i saw in the videos facts that he has been on these shows and tv channels. Basically i have 2 mediums of facts that I'm not sure how to get them right for you to exept them, but there are existent and van be found! :) Thanks for all the help!

--Michaelparks (talk) 17:56, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia references do *not* have to be available on the Internet/Web. (Wikipedia:Referencing_for_beginners#References_not_online Things that have only ever been available behind a paywall are a problem, but anything in a Miami Herald can simply be referenced with title, newspaper & date, preferably using Template:Cite_news. Generally loading images into wikipedia just to have as references isn't done as far as I know.

Videos are another issue. Links to youtube are discouraged, what facts are being referenced from the videos or is it just for notability?Naraht (talk) 18:10, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

---Ah okay, well on some wikipedia pages i see some pictures included throughout the article... maybe thats where a few of these pictures can go? Maybe just 1 0r 2 under media i guess(images of newspaper articles). However do i have to upload them to wikipedia commons or are they already public domain since they are public publications?

And as for the videos I would say its facts & Notability... I found a video where he is interviewed by Kelly Craig from NBC and teaches some body language. That would be both F & N. I found one where i think it was CNN maybe? Where he was talking about Obama during his inauguration(another body language interview). And then over videos with people that when i look up all seem to be big speakers like Les Brown, Marshyll Sylver, Zig Ziglar, Deepak Chopra, Donald Trump(not speaker). So i think that portion would fall under notability maybe?

Well Ive found multiple places that show these so I'm not sure how to convert the information into the article.... thats where i need some help lol, thanks for the assistance! --Michaelparks (talk) 13:24, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to the content of the images of the newspaper articles, don't include them in the article. For the videos, do you have the information on when they aired?Naraht (talk) 09:30, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of Kappa Kappa Psi chapters[edit]

Thanks for the tip about Template:Chapter! I did a quick find/replace and updated the table to use that template. LazySofa (talk) 21:05, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious, how did you do the find replace, did you use wikied in some way, pull out the actual contents and do it or go back to some sort of previous table?21:07, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
I used Notepad++'s regular expression find/replace tool to change them all, one group at a time—first all the single-letter chapters, then all the Alpha X chapters, then Beta X, etc.LazySofa (talk) 00:57, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Now I just wish that it could be done to List of Alpha Phi Omega chapters (geographical) and List of Alpha Phi Omega chapters (chronological). but I'm not quite sure it is the same.Naraht (talk) 01:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, do you intend to make the same sort of table for Tau Beta Sigma?Naraht (talk) 14:00, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at the ΑΦΑ list and it is a different layout that I don't think could be changed as easily. Given the amount of time it took me to construct the ΚΚΨ list, I was not planning to make a ΤΒΣ list in the immediate future. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LazySofa (talkcontribs) 14:43, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Alpha Phi Omega, not Alpha Phi Alpha... OK. To use the same method, you'd need the following: GLO with chapters assigned in Alpha..Omega,Alpha Alpha..Alpha Omega order, to have it as a standard table (no fratchapter template) and to use the table method where all entries are on the same line separated by double bars and to use the template chapter, you'd need one that doesn't do external links to the chapter from the chapter letters, right? Though you might be able to do the frat chapter template. Could you look at List of Kappa Alpha Psi chapters? Naraht (talk) 15:10, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, ΑΦΩ! I've been looking at ΑΦΑ's page for inspiration for my rewrite of the KKPsi page so it was on my brain. My bad. Technically speaking, the ΑΦΩ list could be changed, but I don't have the technical know-how to pull it off. I'm not a huge fan of the Fratchapter template because it puts notes in the table instead of underneath the table and doesn't sort chapter designations properly. What exactly did you want me to look at on the ΚΑΨ page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LazySofa (talkcontribs) 21:41, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. As long as you realize that ΑΦΩ and ΑΦΑ are different. :) What's wrong with notes in the table, the fratchapter template puts everything in one line (and if you look at the Alpha Phi Omega Chronological one, you'll see that you can end up with a *lot* of references. :) ) I'm thinking I may have to use perl to turn the Alpha Phi Omega ones into the either the double bars within the line or fratchapter version. It is the every 6th row (or whatever) needing to be changed that makes things a little odd to change over to the chapter template. Just that ΚΑΨ seemed to fit enough of the criteria for your notepad++ technique. Alpha is first alphabetically, it is all in one line and the Chapter= seems to help with delimiting.Naraht (talk) 23:16, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Randolph! I notice you do work on greek pages. I am a new user and have created a page on Clemson Universities Greeklife. It is defenitaly a work in progress but I was wondering if you could check it out! Thanks!! user:S.brad.18 —Preceding undated comment added 18:43, 4 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Sure, for the purposes of your class(?), which would be most useful, a) making needed changes to the article, b) putting what changes are needed on the talk page, c) on your personal page or d) here in this conversation?Naraht (talk) 18:56, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Putting them on the articles talk page would be fine! Thank you for your time! user:S.brad.18 —Preceding undated comment added 20:09, 6 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Re: You start from Z, I'll start from A.[edit]

Perfect! I usually always work backwards through lists for this very reason. Then again, I usually always start at the bottom of the centre column, then work to the bottom-right. I dislike edit conflicts as well. :)  -- WikHead (talk) 15:46, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to work through and clear as much of the existing list as you can. I'm currently unable to give my computer screen my full attention, and may soon need to leave the office for a short while. It's nice to have made your acquaintance BTW! :)  -- WikHead (talk) 16:05, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Naming convention for the Belgian Government[edit]

I was definitely speaking only for Belgium, so I can't say if the same goes for any other country. Also it was not based on a wikipedia policy, moreover if one exists, then I'm not aware of it. Anyway, on any Belgian news website you will probably find as many references to the "goverment Di Rupo I" (which is the official name) as to the "government Di Rupo" (where the I was probably dropped just out of convenience).

The portal website belgium.be presents the official list of members of the current government [2] (Dutch) and calls it the government "Di Rupo I", although again frequently they refer to the "government Di Rupo". Pelotastalk|contribs 16:57, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Yup, as I said. With and without the "I" are mixed continuously. Did not find an official naming convention so far... Pelotastalk|contribs 14:03, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
