Disambiguation link notification for September 30

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dario Del Fabro, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Azzurri. Removal of Yukon Jack as liquer of the SALH

Not sure how to source this for you but it what we serve as our regimental liqueur at our mess dinners. It was selected in Wainwright Alberta in October 20011 by the incoming commanding officer. The SALH perpetuate the 19th Alberta Dragoons. The latter unit had a squadron in Whitehorse. - Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.149.5.46 (talk) 00:18, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

I believe you of course ... but ... sorry, the policy is "Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it", so that any reader can check on its accuracy and find out more if they want. Even the regiment's own website might be acceptable as a source in a case like this, but I don't see anything there: Noyster (talk), 12:13, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

No, making phone calls and putting what was said on Wikipedia would be regarded as "original research" on our part. You can do that sort of thing on other websites, but here, we can only use sources that have already been published. The newspaper article looks interesting, but of course throws no direct light on mess dinners of recent years. Good luck: Noyster (talk), 19:22, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

Below is copy of response of page regarding subject: Thank you for your message. At Home Education and Development is not an "official" organization, although future plans for such is intended. I would like to keep the name in use for my account and am willing to make another account if necessary. Would you please direct me on how? I am reviewing the username policy page for more information. Sincerely, At Home Education and Development (talk) 09:41, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

I read the [Policy] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Username_policy and I would like to use my username implying shared use, in conjunction with my personal name. Thanks for your message. At Home Education and Development (talk) 10:17, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

My apologies, but the policy statement Usernames that are simply names of companies or groups are not permitted appears to me to rule out your present username. The clause usernames are acceptable if they contain a company or group name but are clearly intended to denote an individual person requires the username itself to make this clear, as in the examples quoted of the form "<Personal name> at <organisation name>". The procedure for requesting a change of username is set out here. As you have made few substantive edits as yet, I would recommend that you start a fresh account and discard the present one. § I would also like to draw your attention to the further policy statement: Remember that promotional editing is not permitted regardless of username. The conflict of interest guideline advises all users to exercise caution if editing articles about businesses, organizations, products, or other subjects that they are closely connected to. If you choose to edit articles that are in any way related to your company or group, you will need to carefully follow Wikipedia's advice on editing with a conflict of interest.: Noyster (talk), 11:20, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. I carefully read the policy that you highlighted in question and will not use At Home Education and Development as a username. Since that name will no longer be in use as a username, after creating a new account, should that page be set up for a redirect as outlined in [Changing Username page]? I'd like to make clear that I never intended any conflict of interest as a user of wikipedia. I admit that my potential violation was a result of not completely knowing the rules of Wikipedia.

At Home Education and Development (talk) 14:57, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

No, there will be no need for redirects. When you have opened your new account, just put a note on the previous user page to indicate that it is not in use. No-one else can use an account bearing that name. I'm sorry you have had this inconvenience and wish you success with editing Wikipedia. You may want to take a look at this page, which gives detailed information about editing: Noyster (talk), 15:10, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Re:

Thanks for your reply. As for you saying that I may open an account, I am not that skilled at knowing passwords or usernames so the only way I can edit is just as anonymous sadly. I have recently added to the Edward Smith page the statements that he made when asked if he was faced with disaster. I have also removed Henry Senior from one of the pargraphs because as shown "Shots in the Dark"; The reliability of his statements is unknown. Also who says Daniel's story is apocryphal?

I have also added your reply to me on the article's talk page, although I probably should have asked first, sorry.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.54.185 (talk) 16:28, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

That's OK, any page on Wikipedia is visible to all, even my talk page here can be viewed by anyone if they care to look. I added the citation for the Daniel Allen Butler quote, as I saw it in your original enquiry. I would say you are going the right way about this, sticking to the sources, even if you don't choose to open an account: Noyster (talk), 16:52, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Help

Hello, Thank you for your recent edits. I really appreciate your help. I noticed that you did a professional edit for one of my article Ganesh Regmi. I am kind of in need of help on this article please. The Wikipedia is trying to delete this article because they did not find good reference or something. Can you please help me to keep this article? Editing and adding enough information on this article so that it cannot be deleted? I look forward for your reply soon. Thank you.

Right, well since you didn't say, you are User:Gregmi69. This alone raises concern about what we call "conflict of interest". You may be the person this article is about, or be closely related to him. If so, we would encourage you to write about other topics instead. Someone else has already put a warning about this on your own talk page.
Now about the Ganesh Regmi article: when we add articles about living people, we are strict about having "reliable sources" to support the information. Of the five sources currently listed, the first appears to be Regmi's own website, and the second and third are just directory entries: none of these would be accepted as sources for this article. What we need is references to anything written about Regmi or his films by other, independent people and published in widely-read newspapers, magazines or books, or major news websites. If this kind of coverage cannot be found, we have to conclude that Regmi is not yet "notable" enough to have an article in Wikipedia. What we mean by "notable" is briefly explained in this guidance.
The last two websites in the list I cannot connect to, and if others also have this problem, then they won't help either. Please don't quote YouTube, Facebook or Twitter as "sources", as none of these are independent of the subject.
Lastly, I am sorry to have to say that the article before I edited it was far from Wikipedia standards. It was so far out as to make me think you should take a look at some other Wikipedia articles, about anything that interests you, to learn more about how articles are normally written and what they contain. The welcome message you were sent also links to useful guidance about how to contribute. In one sentence, we don't prefer one belief or opinion over any other, we stick to known facts and always refer back to what has already been published on the subject. So what I suggest is that before contributing again, you take some more time to find out more about how we work, and perhaps polish up your English a little more. Good luck: Noyster (talk), 17:45, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

bro whats wrong with my edit in kushboo page? please help me mate. i am all new to this wikipedia editing. thanks in advance. Weedo vivek (talk) 08:41, 17 November 2014 (UTC)weedo_vivekWeedo vivek (talk) 08:41, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Well Weedo it's what you have been told several times: Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media and Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles... Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. In short it's all about reliable sources and neutral point of view.
Let's see what was not acceptable in your Kushboo edit:
  1. She supports a lot of causes like Walk in the Dark What other causes? Where's the reliable source which has reported this?
  2. After quitting DMK rumours were rife she was going to join other political parties. In what reliable sources have these rumours been published? Probably none, as if it was that "reliable" it wouldn't publish mere "rumours".
  3. She is one activist who walks the talk. An opinion, not neutral at all but trying to make the person look good. If any such opinion been published by an independent source, say where.
What would we need instead? Examples:
  1. She supports Walk in the Dark<ref>[reference A]</ref> and [another cause]<ref>[reference B]</ref>
  2. After she left DMK, [major news magazine] reported that she intended to join [named other party]<ref>[reference C]</ref>
  3. She has been described in [major newspaper] as "..."<ref>[reference D]</ref>
This way of editing is effort I know, but it's the only way for your work to succeed on Wikipedia. A fairly readable guide to adding references is here. Good luck: Noyster (talk), 12:58, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Avalon Connection to Sicily (Avalon is Sicily)

The answers to all your questions on this topic you can find on the page of Avalon, check the chronology of the "Talk Page". The whole truth and the reality is contained in a long speech of Sweet Xeper(user). To some this was inconvenient and that's why it was censored, goodbye...--151.44.228.76 (talk) 01:46, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

You sincerely believe that you have the "whole truth" about Avalon. Other Wikipedia editors have disagreed, and this is what talk pages are for: to discuss and finally agree on how the article is going to reflect the different views. Your lengthy insertion on the talk page didn't give a clue how you proposed to reach an acceptable balance in the article. Unfortunately the other editor removed it entirely, and you re-inserted it and so on, which is no discussion and is explicitly forbidden here as "edit warring". (This applies even to those who edit from different IP addresses, which only hampers communication). If you wish to continue on Wikipedia, please make more effort to work collaboratively with others: Noyster (talk), 08:50, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Microlax error

Hi. Thank you for a warm welcome. Can you please have a look at Microlax article that I've created. I cannot fix the error in reference #3. What's wrong with it? -- 08:00, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello User:Bbarmadillo. In the cite web template you used, the field name "title = " was missing in front of the US patent number. I've now inserted this, and hope the result is what you wanted. If not, the free-text fields you have available in the template are lastname, firstname, title and publisher, and you can distribute your information over these as you see fit. Oh, and could you sign your talk-page posts with the ~~~~, so we can see straight away who you are? Regards: Noyster (talk), 08:32, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! I see now that the error was in the title tag. -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 09:49, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

RSOL Page Fixup

Thanks for your heads-up about problems with the new article Reform Sex Offender Laws, Inc. I've contacted the person who set it up for us, and we will work to fix the problems. Hopefully wikipedia will be patient as we do so. Neither of us have created an article before. I understand better about the conflict of interest, and needing to change the references. I'm planning to put a draft copy on my user page (or hers) so we can remove things that are not verifiable according to policies, or find the right kind of references, and run the drafts past you guys. Is it okay to leave up what is there, for the moment? Not sure how fast we can work. PS - if we can talk on MY talkpage I would appreciate it. Still getting used to all the Wiki markups. Removal of YouTube links to user-created videos

I'll first admit that I am a new contributor to Wikipedia, so I appreciate any further guidance on what is and is not acceptable edits. For reference, I recently added YouTube links to an existing article that summarizes the episodes posted by Watch It Played. Those links were removed but I thought they were acceptable based on them being user-created videos that are not copyrighted. Could you please clarify which aspect of the policy on posting YouTube video links was in violation? If it is a matter of using references, should I follow the same model as this Wikipedia site which uses YouTube video links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_viewed_YouTube_videos

The service that I am seeking to offer is one that has been requested by others who have discovered the same Wiki page in that they were looking for a means to view a referenced game. I would like to provide that value in a way that is in accordance with the Wikipedia guidelines.

Thanks, Peter --Paspooner (talk) 16:22, 21 November 2014 (UTC)paspooner

Hi Peter and thanks for your interest in Wikipedia.
Sorry your first efforts met with reverts, first by the bot then by me. The problems with adding all the YouTube links are, (1) as indicated here there's no guarantee that the links are both technically accessible to all and legally acceptable, (2) in quantity they risk turning the article into a directory or "linkfarm".
Your own suggestion of using reference format, as in the List of most viewed YouTube videos, is a very reasonable one and would largely remove the objections. Also you wouldn't need to add an extra column to the table. There's even a handy template for formatting YouTube references. All you do is paste the following into the places you want to insert a reference:
<ref>{{Youtube | ID | Title }}</ref>
and replace ID with the YouTube ID of the particular video (e.g. zu_pitEH974), and TITLE with the title of the video. You may even want to do the same with the other YouTube links which (I now see) are in the lower table in the article.
Best of luck and come back to me if you have any further queries, or try the Teahouse: Noyster (talk), 18:43, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response Noyster. I greatly appreciate your advice and consultation. I've updated the page (except for the other table that you noted) using the guidance you provided. I'll get to that one soon if the current edits are acceptable. Again thanks for your time and efforts with me. --Paspooner (talk) 16:29, 24 November 2014 (UTC)paspooner
