Rod Blagojevich

Two problems with your latest edit. First of all, that material is copyrighted, and illegal to post here; see Wikipedia:Copyrights for more info. Second, the material is not neutral; we try to follow a neutral point of view policy. Please don't add in material like this in the future. Of course, if you'd like to add to the Blagojevich article with your own writing, that would be fine. Best, Meelar (talk) 00:24, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Copyright violations

You must stop adding these copyright violations. Please stop immediately. Meelar (talk) 00:33, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Your contribution at New Jersey State Capitol is also copyrighted.

Welcome to Wikipedia, and we hope you will continue to contribute. All sorts of input are welcome. However we have to say very clearly that submitting copyright work is illegal!. If we do not stop it, Wikipedia may be shut down, and potentially anyone submitting such material may be sued.

In case you are not familiar with the rules, here is a brief summary. All text and pictures are potentially copyright - that means books, newspapers and stuff on the web. It also means images. Everything is copyrighted unless the author explicitly says it is not. Unless a web page says it is public domain, (or explicitly licensed for use under the GNU Free Documentation License or something very similar) we cannot use it. Note that 'free for non-commerical use is not good enough - Wikipedia might be used commercially.

Because of the potentially serious consequences of copyright violation we will have to stop you if you continute to add illegal articles. If you don't understand please ask someone at Wikipedia:Help desk.

Thanks. DJ Clayworth 15:03, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Patrick - please don't blank articles that have been listed for copyright violation. We need to give people a chance to object, and then the entire history will be deleted. In the meantime people who find a blank article will not know that it is scheduled for deletion, and will add text to it. They will then be upset when it is deleted.

If you wish to agree that they should be deleted, say so on the talk page. DJ Clayworth 21:53, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)

If you blank articles that are not copyright violations, that is considered vandalism. Please stop. DJ Clayworth 21:55, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Second Grader

Patrick:

Hi again, and welcome to Wikipedia. We don't get many second graders here - how old are you? (You can add things yourself to this page)

I'm glad to see you've stopped copying articles from other parts of the web - we are really looking for people to write new things. You may want to look at this link here [1] - this is another encyclopedia just like Wikipedia, but written in simple language for people learning English. It really needs people to write new articles.

If you keep contributing here, I suggest you ask questions here Wikipedia:Help desk before anything you don't understand. When you ask say you are in second grade - you'll get better help. Have fun DJ Clayworth 13:39, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Tips

Hi Patrick,

I'm the guy who emailed you before. I'd just like give you a few tips. When you create a list, you should use bullets. Right now, your lists look like this:

User:Chrisn4255 User:Patricknoddy User talk:Chrisn4255

Lists that have bullets look like this:

To make a list with bullets, type them this way:

*User:Chrisn4255
*User:Patricknoddy
*User talk:Chrisn4255

My other tip is about short articles. When you write a short article (like one or two sentences), go to the bottom, and type:

stub

At the bottom of the article people will see:

This article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.

This will tell them to write more about the article (if they know anything more about it).

I hope this helps.

Like DJ Clayworth said: you might want to go to http://simple.wikipedia.orgbecause it's a lot like Wikipedia, but it's written with small words, and it really needs people to write new articles. If you stay with us here, then ask questions at Wikipedia:Help desk before doing anything you don't know about. When you ask, say you are in second grade - you'll get better help.

Feel free to ask me hereif you have a question, or if you want me look at an article (I like politics and history, too!). Chris N. 01:39, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Why were you making a list of companies on wikipedia:Article of the week? That is not what that page is there for. I have reverted your changes. Thue | talk 16:45, 10 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Heirs Apparent

I've moved your page to a more grammatically correct title. Mike H 02:25, Jul 13, 2004 (UTC)

Airport articles

I don't think anyone has really explained what the problem with your airport articles was - or why I've just had to delete them.

Nearly everything on the internet belongs to someone - if a company puts information on their web site they own that information. This means that we cannot use their writing on wikipedia - it is what's described as under copyright. Generally Wikipedia can only accept writing that is done for Wikipedia - there are a few exceptions (ask me if you are interested). Taking writing from other websites isn't allowed. Please don't be put off - you are very welcome here - and I personally am very happy that a second grader is helping to make this encyclopedia. If you have any questions please leave me a message and I will do my best to help. Yours Secretlondon 01:48, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I and V

Hi Patrick, I've taken the liberty of removing the links on I and V to the pages I (disambiguation) and V (disambiguation), respectively, for now. The main reason is that for the entire alphabet, the meanings of the letter are included on the main page, since the articles are short enough. Maybe in the future if more is written, it might change, but for now it should be left as it is. (Although feel free to add to the articles if there is anything missing). Happy wiki-ing siroχo 04:31, Jul 17, 2004 (UTC)

Hi - we don't normally have pages for specific days in history; rather, important events would be on a page like March 4 instead of March 4, 1797. Evercat 20:54, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hi Patrick. My name is Danny and I have been on Wikipedia for three years. I am very happy that you are helping us make an encyclopedia. The articles you add are very good starts. I hope you continue to help us. If you have any questions, please ask me here (Danny. I will be happy to answer if I can. Danny 01:11, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Writing

Hey! I noticed your entries and I've thought they are really good! You seem to know a lot about the state of Delaware. How would you like to write an article for the Simple English Wikipedia on Delaware? Simple English Wikipedia is for people from other countries who are learning English, and many of them might want to know about that state. [2] Click on the number there, and you'll be able to start writing about Delaware for them. If you're interested about writing about West Virginia (I see you're from there; you must know a whole lot about it!), you can click on this number here [3] and start writing on West Virginia there. When you're done writing, tell me on my talk page here and let me know so I can read what you wrote! :-)

If you need to know anything about how Wikipedia works, either here or at the Simple English, find me on my talk page (the link is in the paragraph before this one) and write me a note. Mike H 01:28, Jul 20, 2004 (UTC)

Some really good edits today. Thanks! Danny 00:18, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Bank Holiday Watch

Hi, Patrick. I just put a speedy delete on your recent Bank Holiday Watch article, since the Belgium holiday was already mentioned (with more detail) in July 21. Next time you want to add a holiday, add it to a date article (and try to put in something more encyclopedic than "Belgium, today is your national day!") --Ardonik 20:21, Jul 21, 2004 (UTC)

And

Hey! I saw your contributions and I like the links you've added. However, I would like to say that it isn't proper English to start a sentence with "and". See how I worded your sentence in Key West, Florida and try to model your other sentences after that. :-) Mike H 21:21, Jul 22, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Patrick, it would be a good idea if you put an article after the redirects you are making, so that people know that we dont have an article about that topic yet. THanks. Danny 15:38, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Please do not put current events on selected anniversaries templates. --mav 04:00, 27 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Disambigs

You shouldn't create a disambiguation page if there's only one definition of the article. Make it into a redirect instead. For example:

Do this:

#REDIRECT Rhodesville, Alabama

Not this:

Rhodesville is the name of a town in the United States:

disambig

Why did you just post a large number of links about Alaska to my talk page? DJ Clayworth 21:10, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hi Patricknoddy, I noticed you added "Pickles" as a nickname that George W. Bush uses for his wife. We need to add a reference for this entry, since there are many satyrical articles about Bush nicknames.

Many of the nicknames on this page have been found to be fictional, or nicknames created by people other than the president. This particular nickname has been removed from the list before.

I was unable to find a reference for this nickname that was not satire. Can you please remove this entery (if someone else doesn't first) or add a reference? Thank You, Pud 22:14, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

What is "Vincity"? Do you mean vicinity? How can the airport not be in the Huntsville vicinity? Don't forget Normal, Alabama, Meridianville, Alabama, Madison, Alabama, and Decatur, Alabama. -- ke4roh 02:24, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Patrick! I noticed that you have a peculiar way of signing your posts, namely with a series of links to your user and talk pages and multiple timestamps (e.g., Talk:Home Depot, Talk:Lowe's). I find this quite confusing. Was this intentional? --Diberri | Talk 21:13, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

Categories & other things

OK Patrick... I think your heart is in the right place but it's really time you slowed down a little and thought through your actions a bit more. Please read carefully all the comments made above and make sure you understand them.

Please also note that users (ie me and you) should not be added to categories. I'm guessing you've added yourself to the category relating to your home town. That's understandable. However, categories are for grouping article pages together, not us folk, the users. So, I'm about to remove the categories from your user page and from this talk page too.

Please have a look at Help:Contents and let that guide you. --bodnotbod » .....TALKQuietly) 22:53, Aug 25, 2004 (UTC)

Patrick, it look slike you added yourself to categories when you tried to list categories you've created. You can display categories you've created without adding the page to the category by putting a : after the first [[
So, if you create a category called example, you can show that by typing :category:example
However, please be very careful creating categories - you should probably ask people if it's OK to create one at Wikipedia Talk:Categorization first. (believe me, I should know, they delete most of mine...) --bodnotbod » .....TALKQuietly) 00:10, Aug 26, 2004 (UTC)

Categories and templates

Hi there, I just listed Category:Washington DC for deletion—there is already a well-established Category:Washington, DC (and the comma must be included).

I also removed the categories from the television station templates you had created. It is a bad idea to categorize templates, because those automatically slap categories on whatever article the template text is included in, such as your user page. Though it may take a little work, it avoids more problems to manually include the category tags within the articles themselves. I was also wondering what you were hoping to accomplish with these templates—currently, they all appear to only have off-site links in them, which wouldn't be an appropriate usage. I think categories would be better for this kind of grouping anyway; there is already a Category:Television stations in Washington, DC, and there should be similar categories formed eventually in the PA and DE categories too. Hi, Patrick, I removed your nomination from Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. It looked to me, and several other people, like you meant it as a joke. List of U.S. Indian Tribal Government Web sites

Hi, it seems you and I were maintaining similar lists. You had a list at "List of U.S. Indian Tribes", but it was actually based on just a list of U.S. Indian Tribal Government Web sites which is maintained by firstgov.gov. I have been maintaining a copy of the BIA's full list of recognized Native American tribal entities at List of Native American Tribal Entities, so I took the liberty of moving your article to List of U.S. Indian Tribal Government Web sites, and adding a link on the big list to yours (as the list of Web sites is a valuable thing on its own).

I hope you won't have any problem with this, as in the end, this is all about the information for me. If you do, let's discuss it here or on any of the relevant talk pages (I'm watching them all).

Thanks! -Harmil 14:01, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Stub templates

Hi Patrick - I note you've recently created a couple of new stub categories. Did you realise that stub categories should normally be cleared by Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting before creation? That way they can be vetted to check that there are a viable number of stubs (a minimum of 50-60 stubs) that the category does not cross the existing stub hierarchy before the stub is created, and that the templates and categories follow the naming guidelines for stub types.

In the case of two of the templates you made, they clearly cut through the hierarchy, and have been nominated for deletion at WP:SFD. In both cases, the stub types would be of little use to editors, and would be contrary to the standard way of splitting current categories. With seaport-stub, geographical items are always split by location, since editors are more likely to search for a geographical area they know than for a specific feature. A seaport stub would go against this scheme by drawing articles from all parts of the world. Similarly, government agencies are best split by country first - as it is this particular category had five articles all of which should have been in different categories. Stub categories are designed to help editors find groups of articles that they may be able to edit in one particular place (that's how they differ from standard categories, which are for primary use by readers looking for information). But it is unlikely any particular editor will know about both Korean police forces and local authorities in Tacoma, for example. Grutness...wha? 07:07, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

U.S. News and World Reports

Hello, Patricknoddy! I've noticed that you've been placing succession boxes on a few universities, using the U.S. News and World Reports ranking as your guide. However, succession boxes are usually used for people and/or organizations changing over time; i.e. terms of office, or the changing #1 rank. They're usually not used for moving up and down a list. As such, I've gone ahead and commented out your additions. Thank you for your understanding, and don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions. Thanks a lot! As far as I know there is no way of creating categories in the userspace, "PSS" should definately not be in the article space, because it is non-notable and fictional without being known to the general public. Categorization

Hi, it's really great that you're categorizing articles, but could you please stop adding every single category that they could fit under to them? As one example, School Districts which can be filed under "School Districts in Alabama" don't need to be under "School Districts in the US." This way the main categories will stay clear and people can go directly to the state to find what they're looking for. Thanks! Aelfthrytha 12:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. 172.165.137.31 00:21, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry... it just occurred to me that not only are you wrong about England not being a country, but you were a bit presumptuous in telling me that it wasn't since I never identify it anywhere as being a country (even though it is). Thanks again. HokieRNB 03:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, you need to do a little bit of homework on (A) whether England is a country, and (B) the definition of a country. The mere fact that England is not the only country to answer to the sovereign of the United Kingdom does not disqualify from being a country in its own right. I spoke with several people from England this weekend, and they all agree with me. Sorry. HokieRNB 01:11, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, Patrick! Nice job on the Rails Across America article! I noticed that you started "The Ultimate Encyclopedia" within your user page. I'm personally concerned that this may be seen as using Wikipedia to host a personal website, which isn't allowed. Your personal information in Wikipedia

I noticed that your user page gives out a fair amount of personal information: Your real name, date of birth, and city of residence. The reason I'm writing is that your user page claims you are 27 years old. There is a proposal Wikipedia:Youth protection you might not known about. It suggests that because there are bad people on the internet who want to hurt children, it is not a good idea to put personal information what could be used to identify you. I am removing the identifying personal information from your user page. If you have any questions, reply here and I will respond. —Dgiest c 00:34, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Special characters

How do I use special characters in article titles?

Any particular example ? Try taking a look at Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Special_characters. I would suggest that if it isn't obvious how you do it, then it is unlikely to be for anyone else trying to directly access the article. --pgk 15:11, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!

Creating WikiProjects and then populating them

It appears that you are undertaking a campaign to create hundreds of WikiProjects (Aland Islands, Albania, Algeria), and to have these WikiProjects be populated by bots. Have you discussed this on the Wikipedia:WikiProjects talk page? I strongly suggest that you join the discussion here before undertaking this project. Spamreporter1 15:29, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

By "populate," I mean exactly what you are doing: using bots to add the Project template to the talk pages of thousands of articles per project. Please see my concerns posted here. Spamreporter1 06:58, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Smilies

Can smilies be used in Wikipedia?

Yes, but they won't be displayed graphically. And if you rig it to do it, then it'd probably not be welcome. :) Xiner (talk, email) 21:49, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Please chime in if you have a view

There's an interesting experience going on over at WikiProject California, and WikiProject Southern California.

Some time ago, WikiProject California members had placed their project tags on all articles about California cities. Those tags have been in place for some time. Recently certain members of WikiProject Southern California, after discussion on that project's talk page (only), decided to remove the WikiProject California tags for (almost all) Southern California cities, and replace the tags with WikiProject Southern California tags - only.

That is, the WikiProject Southern California members didn't simply add the WikiProject Southern California tag to Southern California cities, the WikiProject California tags were completely removed. This was done apparently without consultation with the WikiProject California members.

It would seem at first glance that all the cities in Southern California could appropriately remain as part of both WikiProject California and WikiProject Southern California - it is after all one state! There are many articles across Wikipedia which have multiple WikiProject tags.

We are gathering responses to the following questions on those projects' talk pages:

 • Do you have a view whether the WikiProject California tag should be removed from a large number of cities in Southern California?
 • Do you have a view whether city article for Southern California cities should have more than one WikiProject tag?

Please let us know if you have a view! Spamreporter1 15:49, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Editor's index

Thanks. It's been astonishing to me to discover all the "moving parts" and information pages that exist in Wikipedia, with relatively little overlap/duplication, which are potentially useful to editors.

At some point when the index is closer to finished, I'll look at making it a bit more official (in terms of its location), but I certainly find it very useful now, and welcome others to use it. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 03:34, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Brothers Villagepedia

The article Brothers Villagepedia has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- Longhair\talk 10:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Gevorg Sargsyan

I did not create that article I only added WPAM tag and changed the name from Gevorg sargsyan‎ to Gevorg Sargsyan‎ before, the last name was lower case. In that process when I changed the name the information in the article that was there before was deleted I don't know why. So I went back and added the deleted information that was there before back to the article. ROOB323 21:02, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Speedy tag

A tag has been placed on Brianna Glenn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because you seem to not understand that the article meets the WP:BIO guideline for sportspeople as an athlete "who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming". The World Athletics Final being the competition of equivalent standing in this case.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Punkmorten 21:08, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there; There ave now been,I think, three occasions tonight where I have added a delete tag to an article, gone to the user page to notify the user, and hit an edit conflict with your good self. I would be most grateful if you would take on board the fact that if I add a speedy tag, then I will notify the editor, and you need not do so. This will save us both time. Welcome

Hi, Patricknoddy, and welcome to WikiProject
San Francisco Bay Area
!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles relevant to the Bay Area. Here are some points that may be helpful:

 • Our main aim is to help improve Bay Area-related articles, so if people ask for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
 • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page. It is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
 • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, which you are welcome to participate.
 • Our system for improving lower-quality articles is Jumpaclass. If you'll be editing stub, start, or B-class articles, consider using Jumpaclass to track your progress.
 • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign Bay Area topics.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome! We hope you enjoy working on this project.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Docly.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Docly.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --- RockMFR 21:19, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Your RfA

I regret to say that I have closed your RfA early as per WP:SNOW. I have included a summary of the opinions cast in my reason for doing so, which was essentially 'get some more experience before trying again'. You have been very brave in putting yourself in the spotlight here after so short a time of editing WP. Most people wait between six-to-twelve months before trying for an RfA and they are not alway successful either. Strategies for improving your profile for another RfA include:

 1. contributing effectively to articles. This includes finding references and citations for facts in reliable sources, something that is essential for an encyclopedia.
 2. Working on the Good Article Drive, Good Article Collaboration of the week and the Article Creation and Improvement Drive.
 3. Patrolling the New pages and Recent changes special pages for vandalism; tagging the pages according to the criteria for speedy deletion and warning the vandals.
 4. Reporting repeat vandals for admin intervention.
 5. Joining a Wikiproject or finding a portal on a subject in which you are interested and contributing through that.
 6. Assisting at the Help and Reference desks.
 7. Welcoming new users.
 8. Becoming adopted or, when you are more experienced, adopting new users to assist them in learning about Wikipedia.

These are just some of the ideas for making effective contributions to the project. You can also see Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia for more ideas. Regards and good editing, --Majorly (o rly?) 21:52, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, best of luck next time. I agree that it probably isn't the right time for you to become an admin though I do disagree with pretty much everything that was written above. It's not about the amount of time, number of edits, or quantity of projects that you've signed up to. Just being active in making contributions on wikipedia will help in terms of getting used to the way people here do business and taking time to see how others work on projects for instance is more valuable than learning how to set one up yourself as you did with the Afghanistan one. The key to wikipedia in my view is that it is about consensus, things happen because people agree that they should so actions should be taken based on talking to others and getting to understand what the wikipedia community wants or doesn't want. This is more important than getting to understand the technical details or just racking up edits in the areas that the above editor outlined. Don't be disheartened by it though, I think it's good that you're enthusiastic and want to keep contributing at all levels here. MLA 23:14, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Just letting you know that I'm contesting both of their speeding deletions. :) I make a lot of figure skating articles, so I'm curious as to what criterea your bot uses to detect spam and useless articles. Both Paetsch & Nuss have six seperate aricles linking to them, and they're both competiting at the highest level for figure skaters of their level. Junior level is one below Olympic level, and the International Skating Union treats them and Olympic level skaters both as elite level skaters skating at the highest level of amatuer sport. (I've gone through so many speedy deletion arguements that sometimes I think I should stick that in my user profile!) Please let me know your arguments for deletion. :) Awartha 22:42, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Them being known outside figure skating doesn't really matter. They've competed at the highest level of international sport, which is the critera, according to Bio, and I always say in new articles just how they're notable. :) Awartha 07:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

thanks for your patrolling but when i release new pages I then edit them rather than doing it all first. Its funny you happened to tag Tito Lusiardo who happens to be one of the biggest actors in the Cinema of Argentina of all time -he is like the Argentine equivalent of Marlon Brando or something!! Images, and linking them to talk pages.

Patrick, thank you for your time creating images. You definately put in a lot of work into some of them. Here are some things to keep in mind when creating images:

1) Do not link them to talk pages just to keep them from getting orphaned. 2) Make sure the images you create actually have encyclopedic merit. You may create images at your leisure on your own sites, but please only upload images to wikipedia that have a reason to be here. 3) Make sure when you do upload them, they are of particularly high quality.

I've nominated several of your files for deletion. Please do not take this personally. Should you have any questions, please ask. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 14:44, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, I know you probably thought you were helping, but please do not link Chelan Logo.gif anywhere. The correct file was uploaded later and is in use in the Chelan County Public Utility District Article. The orphaned .gif version cannot be used elsewhere because it is a logo for the PUD. Talk Messages: Arizona

In regards to your message regarding talk messages being removed: 1) I did not remove your talk message. 2) Linking images not intended for use in an article to a talk page is not allowed. The image you had posted, Arizona shaded blue, was removed by another editor. Please be advised my response to your posting on Talk:Arizona had also been removed. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 13:13, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I removed your image from Talk:Arizona. It is not appropriate to place images on talk pages without context or reason. The administrators on the incident noticeboard agree. While talk page entries usually are not edited by other users, your post amounted to little more than image spam, and was removed. Such nonsense posts are regularly deleted from Talk pages, and will continue to be deleted. -Nicktalk 20:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

EST instead of UTC on timestamps

Is it possible to go from UTC to EST on timestamps, etc. (not including Preferences)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Patricknoddy (talkcontribs)

As far as I know, I don't think you can change your timestamp as the Wikipedia server time is officially UTC. I will leave the 'helpme' tag here, just incase I am incorrect. Extranet (Talk | Contribs) 22:29, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, Patricknoddy! See WP:HD#Substituting (as opposed to transcluding) templates in a signature. —XhantarTalk 23:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Patricknoddy: there is a drawback; namely, you'll have to change your raw signature, and you'll have to sign with ~~~. But hopefully this won't be too much of a problem for you; I don't think much else can be done :( . GracenotesT § 23:54, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Blue Colorado

So it's a practical joke of some kind? -- Rick Block (talk) 04:47, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Patrick, I think what everyone is so confused about is WHY there is a need to have a blue fill in of any state, be it Colorado, Arizona, etc., and why you have it on Wikipedia or the Commons. As far as wikipedia is concerned, what encyclopedic void is filled by the states colored blue? And furthermore, as far as the commons are concerned, anyone with a blank outline of a state, MS Paint, and the ability to move a mouse can make a state colored blue, red, orange, pink, green... any color imaginable.
This is actually one of the reasons I offered to be a mentor to you is brining items to these servers that can be used. A scribbled in 'blue version' of Arizona or Colorado isn't really going to be used by anyone, as these items can be made easily and of higher quality. Your rendition of the German flag also falls under this category. No one here is trying to persuade you from contributing items to the commons and to wikipedia, but it needs to be items that are going to actually be helpful to people. One thing to keep in mind is that everything you upload to the Wikimedia Servers take space, and space costs money. It is like putting shoes in a box and then paying a storage company to store that box, only here, you aren't charged anything but there is still a cost. That is why some people ask these questions, request for deletion, or unlink the items, because it costs money to have those there, and because they have no value to anyone other than yourself, that cost is multiplied. I noticed you have you're own website as well, I would encourage you to make these files available via your website, that way you have total control over the image. Or, if your website has limited space, try using a Photobucket account.
Patrick, I've uploaded very few files to Wikipedia for a number of reasons, one being they serve no purpose beyond my art, and I prefer not to license too much stuff under CC-SA, as I do enjoy retaining full copyright over my most important works. There are many lessons for you to learn, Patrick. I am willing to teach you them so one day you can gain an adminship, if you choose to accept.

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with WPBiography. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:34, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

You may also want to read Wikipedia:Signatures, which gives guidance on how to customize your signature and you should particularly read the section on the transclusion of templates. Please ask if you have any questions. Thanks, mattbr30 22:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 21st Century Holding Company, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add hangon on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 03:26, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: My Signature

The problem is the last point: In consideration of users with vision problems, be sparing with color. If you must use different colors in your signature, please ensure that the result will be readable by people with color blindness. Using yellow with a white page makes it very hard to read. Note that not many people use yellow in signatures. Also, note that you should not use templates in signatures. -- ReyBrujo 14:01, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is better. However, please read this: Transclusions of templates and parser functions in signatures (like those which appear as , for example) are forbidden -- ReyBrujo 14:25, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Note that you continue signing as , which is another thing that is not allowed (read my previous reply). You should sign as , so that the content of your signature are copied into the page instead of being transcluded (anyone can go to User:Patricknoddy/sig, modify it with "Patricknoddy is dumb!", and suddenly all your signatures will become that. Not even talking of the processing the servers will have to do in order to update your signature in every conversation you have held. I think the signature should be fully protected to ensure it will never be modified, not even by you, although you should request that at WP:RFPP as I am not sure there is a "rule" that allows that (maybe it would be a good idea to add such, but somehow I don't think it is really necessary when our signature guidelines do not like such signs). -- ReyBrujo 14:33, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
If I may offer a suggestion, it may be better to hard-code the signature directly into the properties window, rather than having it read from a page. It will accept the same coding, you should just have to paste it in. This way, the only way to change it is to login as yourself and access your "My Preferences" page. That's what I've done on my signature. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 16:10, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Example:
Patricknoddy<font color="#2F4F2F">TALK</font><font color="#2F4F2F">|</font><font color="#2F4F2F">HISTORY</font>
Pasting such hard-coded signature directly into the Signature Preferences box does work. You can find the hex color codes and alter it to your personal style if you choose, but as it sits right now it would create an identicle signature to mine, if you need a visual example. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 16:19, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Here is my signature:

[[User:Patricknoddy|Patricknoddy<font color="#FFFF00">TALK</font><font color="#FFFF00">|</font><font color="#FFFF00">HISTORY</font>]] 18:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC) I don't know why it isn't working. Can somebody figure it out? helpme

Hi. Have you enabled "Raw signature" in your preferences? FrancoGG ( talk ) 18:20, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
I disabled raw signature, but it's still not working ([[User:Patricknoddy|Patricknoddy<font color="#FFFF00">TALK</font><font color="#FFFF00">|</font><font color="#FFFF00">HISTORY</font>]] 18:24, 4 March 2007 (UTC)).
That's because if you have a personalized signature it's supposed to be enabled. I tried using your signature and worked fine. You have to enable "Raw signature", this means, the checkbox must be checked. FrancoGG ( talk ) 18:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

FrangoGG is right, you have to activate the Raw Signature. This is what your signature looks like when properly parsed. Oh, and one more thing, you may need to clean the signature by copying the code into Notepad, and then pasting from notepad into the preferences box. PatricknoddyTALK|HISTORY This should be the fully translated HTML view. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, you may want to ditch the Yellow script. Remember - CONTRAST. Light on Light doesn't work, but dark on light does. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:40, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Great. The only thing I would change, like I mentioned, is dropping the yellow text in favor of something darker, a dark blue, green, red, purple, etc. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:45, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

My sig

Should I? All I'm doing is linking to a worthy project to encourage more free-content audio on Wikipedia that needs more exposure. Didn't think that was against the rules, and I'm fairly sure it isn't. The other thing is I don't really want people coming straight to my talk page for the first time without having read at least some of my userpage first, to avoid misunderstandings. YouTube

Can you embed a YouTube video in Wikipedia?

No. You can link to it though, even though you probably shouldn't, since youtube usually shouldn't be linked in an article. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:00, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Actually you can: http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Help:YouTube.

Thats's on Wikia, not Wikpedia. I don't think that you can do that here, and if you can, I'm pretty sure videos aren't allowed on pages, especially YouTube ones. Wikia is no an encyclopedia. It doesn't have these guidlines. --TeckWiz ParlateContribs@ 22:12, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

This is wiki formatting, so it is allowed.

TeckWiz is right. Although Wikia and Wikipedia use the same software, MediaWiki, Wikipedia, as a free encyclopedia, has a policy of not embedding any video or audio files in its pages. Please see also WP:EL and WP:NOT for the external links policy. If you have any questions, please feel free to replace the helpme tag. Xiner (talk, email) 22:16, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

If there is a policy on no audio clips in pages, why are there links to them?

Because embedding them in a page and having links to a separate file are different things. --Steve (Slf67) talk 22:45, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Oops on my part about Ramana film

I moved it to Ramana (film) (better name for article) just when you were requesting speedy deletion for it. Again, sorry about that. -- ArglebargleIV 22:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

DJ Coone

Dj coone is a very big and famous producer / dj in Belgium. He is one of the mayor players in the jumpstyle scene. Jumpstyle is getting a lot of international attention, that's why i decided to make a wiki of dj coone. Is this a good enough reason to let the article stay? Hypnotical 22:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

My article about dj coone was deleted after about 10 min. I was still typing the hang on thingy. No other editor got to decide if it should stay or not. I made this so more people could get some insight in what jumpsytle is and who are the mayor players. It's rediculous it got deleted that fast man! Don't know what happend to the english wiki but it sure isn't an improvement. Hypnotical 23:06, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Otho Prior-Palmer

I presume your tagging of Otho Prior-Palmer for speedy deletion must be a mistake, as he was a distinguished British Army officer decorated for his conduct in the field, and served as a Member of Parliament for 19 years, all facts attested to in the article with a forest of unimpeachable sources. Sam Blacketer 23:15, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

I simply cannot understand how you could regard this article as not asserting the notability of the subject. The subject was a United Kingdom Member of Parliament, all of whom are considered notable. Sam Blacketer 23:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Your block

I'm sorry you got blocked for your editing tonight because I always regard blocks as marking a failure of discussion. However I understand you can still contribute to your user talk page. I still would like to know why you tagged Otho Prior-Palmer, a 19-year veteran of the House of Commons as "not asserting notability" when members of national legislatures are all considered notable. I would never tag your Representative, Sanford Bishop, as a plainly non-notable person. If someone wrote an article on his predecessor who served in Congress from 1925 to 1953, Edward E. Cox, would you tag that as not asserting notability? Sam Blacketer 00:11, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

You need to get in contact with me about your block, as the blocking admin. Pretty much, renounce using the tool to tag articles and apologize, and your block will be lifted. Until then, your block remains in effect. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 00:43, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, I believe for the most part your age is a non-issue here, except in cases where people are trying to understand why you do certain things. I commended to the other user in an attempt to make sure that they knew you were a youth editor, so they would have insight into whom they are dealing with. While I will agree to keep your exact age hidden, if you don't mind I will continue to advise those who seek to understand you that you are a "Youth Editor".

And if I might make a suggestion, you may want to /archive your talk page, to make it easier to read! CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I'd volunteer to archive your page for you, if it's OK with you. It just takes a long time to load. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:56, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Nah... It would take me about 2 minutes. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I understand that patrick. While it seems easier to have them all on one page, if you have older comments that are no longer relevant or where people aren't communicating with you about, deleting or archiving them will bring newer messages to the top and reduce clutter. As of right now, this page is huge and even on a good broadband or T1 connection, it takes a long time to load, then longer to locate our conversation. These are one of the lessons people learn as they get older: what seems easier and better, is not always easier and better. CascadiaTALK|HISTORY 18:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Number of articles and files

How do you get the number of articles and the number of files?

You can go to Special:Statistics which shows statistics like these that you are after. If you want to use these numbers, say on your user page, you can use magic words. For the number of articles, use NUMBEROFARTICLES. For no of total pages in Wikipedia, use NUMBEROFPAGES. For no of media files, use NUMBEROFFILES. Harryboyles 13:37, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

About User:Jakerl (the userpage, not the user)

You used the wrong reason for speedy deletion. It is not vandalism. However, since Jakerl failed to credit you, it is a copyright violation because the GFDL requires credit to the five principal authors (Or less, if there are fewer than 5 authors) for the content to be copied without violation. Jesse Viviano 21:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi PatrickNoddy,

As per the discussions on Wikipedia talk:Wikipediholism test#More fake scores, we have recently changed the "cyborg" question, and lower the score down to 50, and therefore, your score will also be adjusted according, or even removed. As per the discussion, your score is to be lowered 50 million, since the cyborg question's score value lowered. Your new score is 1003797.685457796, and you are currently standing at 2nd place, after ST47. If you want to continue the discussion, please do so on my talk page or on Wikipedia talk:Wikipediholism test#More fake scores. Thank you! -  Smcafirst | Chit-Chat | SIGN  posted at 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

You are currently ranking 2nd, sorry for my confusing wordings. And if you want one of the toolbars there, I can make one for you, just give me your list of pages, and maybe the images that you prefer to use! And sorry if I did not sign my last post. I was in a bit of hurry.  Smcafirst | Chit-Chat | SIGN  posted at 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Personalization of user links

Can you personalize the links at the upper right hand corner to your userpage, user talk, preferences, etc.?

Using monobook.js and monobook.css you can do pretty much anything to change the appearance to you (not of others) of any page. There are ways to make it appear different to others, but these are not advised since they don't necessarily work consistently between different web browsers and can render your page unusable. But this is way beyond the scope of the helpme system. You might like to take a look at how to archive you talk page, since it seems to be getting quite long. --pgk 21:41, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

User Category for Discussion

Hi. This user is on an extended Wikibreak. If you like his smilies, I'm certain he wouldn't mind if you copied some/all of the display. --Dweller 12:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Threat on user page

Hi - can I suggest that you remove that threat on your user page to those who copy content from your user page? This is a Wiki, and by contributing you are licensing your contributions under the GFDL, which means that anyone can copy them with attribution, hence the threat you make is baseless. Thanks, Martinp23 20:39, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

OK - but please remember that people don't actually have to ask you, though it si good form. Thanks, Martinp23 20:42, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Although it's requesting someone ask you before they copy, I think you really need to remove it completly patrick. It violates WP:AGF.
Furthermore, what do you have on your userpage that has been copied? Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 20:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, first of all little buddy, CHILL. Calm down, walk around... feel better? Okay. Second of all, yes I'm telling you that you need to remove that message. I'm not violating your equal rights, because you don't have the right to make someone feel like a criminal before they commit a crime. Third, if a user copied your entire userbox section and put it on his page, ask yourself why you care. You're not getting any money, your contributions are merely code, which anyone could recreate if they wanted to, and your contributions are to benefit everyone on Wikipedia. You don't own anything on Wikipedia. If someone likes a userbox, or series of userboxes, they have ever right to copy your coding. When things like this happen, ask yourself "Is this really worth getting bent out of shape over?" Is it really worth getting mad about? Not really. Just ignore it, and keep the peace.
Avoid conflict by deciding what is worth fighting over, and what is silly. You're a good guy, Patrick, and you do good work. As you grow, you'll get better. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 21:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Patrick, you and I have been working together for a while now, and I consider you a friend of mine on Wikipedia. I'm not trying to pick on your or be mean or anything, I hope you understand that. However, Patrick, I encourage you to read WP:AGF. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 21:19, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Patrick, WP:AGF applies to this matter greatly. You're assuming that the other user acted with maliace against you. You're assuming that they sought to steal from you. Patrick, I fear you're getting stressed with this issue. Give it a few days and think about it, even ask your folks for advice. I'll leave you with a quote from my favorite author, Mark Twain:

Each person is born to one possession which outvalues all his others- his last breath.

If I may, patrick, could you provide some insight into why you were upset that the other user copied your userbox list? Just trying to understand your possition. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY
Okay, patrick. I understand where you would have some concern, but here's something to think about: When you create any work on Wikipedia, you release that work to be copied, so it's no longer yours, it's wikipedia's. If he doesn't live where you live, why do you care that he is using that userbox? Really, if you sit back and think about how much frustration you've excerted over something small and insignificant, you'd probably laugh. Don't sweat the small stuff, Patrick. Anyway, I'd like to work with you some more. You have the potential to be a great editor, we can make that happen. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY
"You don't own anything on Wikipedia." "When you create any work on Wikipedia, you release that work to be copied, so it's no longer yours, it's wikipedia's". Wrong wrong wrong. Wikipedia owns none of the content. It's owned by the author and released under the GFDL. Of course, the GFDL allows copying with attribution and without asking for permission first, so the request is null and void, but it's incorrect to say the user doesn't own anything here. He does. He owns (in a legal sense) each and every edit he makes. --kingboyk 11:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
I worded it the way I did for a reason, one that I do not neccisarily need to share with you. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 13:04, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Is there a code for Unicode?

What type of code? For what purpose? -- zzuuzz(talk) 00:23, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Is there some sort of wiki formatting for Unicode, to like insert Unicode into Wikipedia?

No, all text is already in unicode. In order to insert a non-keyboard character you generally need to use an alt-key code or the character map, as explained in the previous link and at Unicode#Input_methods. You can also use HTML entities, for example, 腉 displays a Chinese character. -- zzuuzz(talk) 00:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I mean to like make a special character, such as the symbol of Jupiter, to put into Wikipedia?

According to Astronomical symbols the code is 2643 - ♃ (see page source). It is often easier to copy and paste - ♃. -- zzuuzz(talk) 00:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

No, I mean like a special wiki formatting, to insert Unicode into.

Not sure what you mean, as described above you can just enter it. --pgk 19:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Find the Unicode code for the character you want (e.g. 1234) then use &#1234; for decimal values or &#x1234; for hexadecimal values. 33865 is the decimal (8449 in hexadecimal) code for "Leaf" in Traditional Chinese, so &#33865; (or &#x8449 ;) will produce 葉.
I am entering this in List of Unicode characters, but it doesn't work. Why?
helpme - Hey Partrick, it's fixed up, Unicode 0000 doesn't produce visible output, thats why It didn't work, I've changed it to the chinese leaf so you can see it working and extend on it. (also, you can't use code tags inside of nowiki tags ;)) --NigelJ talk 19:58, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

I partly agree with Longhair. It is your own time wasted waiting for your own talk page to load, except it might become so large that it will take a long time to load for other users who want to leave you a message. I still suggest archiving with Werdnabot. It has helped me greatly. A•N•N•Afoxlover hello! 19:35, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Patrick. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Please note that red-linked user categories should be removed from user pages (with their permission, preferably), not created and then nominated for deletion. When you do the latter, the red-links will remain after deletion, because red links on Wikipedia show that the target does not exist. Xiner (talk, email) 20:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Expansion of WP:BAH - your opinion, please.

I have had the idea of expanding and renaming WikiProject Brighton to become WikiProject Sussex - this would not exclude people with a particular interest in, say, Chichester, Arundel, Worthing, Midhurst, Pulborough, Billingshurst, Horsham, Crawley, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings, Rye, Winchelsea, etc. - all places worthy of a WikiProject - and I'm not sure that having WP:BAH as a sub-project of WP:Sussex would work. I feel that we are being too exclusive - we could attract new members this way. What do you think? - Vox Humana 8' 17:35, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, I have no clue who Overarchiver is... and he was wrong to just go and do your archiving, but in the sake of all that is good on this earth PLEASE archive this thing yourself! My Corporate connection at work damn near peaks trying to load this (and that is one of the fastest internet connections you can have), at home, my Cable Service chokes when trying to load your page. Your reasons for not archiving (It taking too long and wanting everything on the same page, too difficult to click around, etc.) are really exaggerations and hurting everyone else in Wikipedia that tries to contact you. It takes 4 minutes to manually archive, or 1 minute to add Werdnabot support, if you need to find anything, it will be in the archive index (if you do werdnabot) which is 1 or 2 clicks away. Think about how often you really go through and read or do anything with previous posts. Also think about this: if editors on high speed cable and corporate internet connections are having a hell of a time loading your page, then what about those users on slow DSL or *gulp* Dialup connections! Your page will never load, and they won't be able to contact you. I'm not going to rush out and do what Overarchiver did, but please, do it yourself! Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 18:25, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

PS: Here is a link to the Werdnabot and even contains a template. Copy/paste the template to the top of your page, and bodda-bing bodda-boom, you're done. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 18:29, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
 • If Overachiever did anything, they at least got some others to point out to you how ridiculous your talk page really is.
Listen, Patrick. No need to get snappy with me. Understand? If you want to let your talk page get so large that no one can open it and talk to you, then that is your issue. Not mine. When your page gets to the point that I can't open it (which it is nearing that point), I'll simply stop working with you. You seem to not comprehend what I and MGM have tried to tell you, and you know, I'm done trying to get you to understand. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 13:05, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Patrick, due to your recent post on my talk page, I am forced to give you a Civility Reminder. Please remember to keep comments civil. Cascadia TALK| HISTORY 13:15, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

RE: Overarchive

I agree, User:Overarchiver appears to have been created just to spite you. Other being in bad taste, there's nothing we can do about it. I've already left a warning on his page. CASCADIAHowl/Trail 21:10, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

No spite. No malice intended. Just some light satire to point out what many others have already attempted to. It looks like my work here is just about done. If you would only remove the silly warning from your userpage about asking before copying. Overarchiver 21:45, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Based on this comment, I find that Overarchiver is a harassment-only account and am blocking it indefinitely. See my comments on his talkpage. Newyorkbrad 02:09, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

This was a groundless and disruptive complaint; please don't do this kind of thing again. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 21:46, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

UBX Isle of Portland

Hey, was just wondering, can the be moved to my UBX subsection since I created the template? BennelliottTalkContributions 19:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Found the code to do it, or maybe the migration to template to User can be changed to mine? either way is good =p 19:28, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Hexidecimal codes in userboxes

If you put hexidecimal codes in userboxes instead of color names, would that work?

Yes. Hoof Hearted 20:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

How'd you make all these? - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:29, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
The images themselves are easy – most of them just consist of an icon, a border and some text. All that's needed then is software that can take several frames and make an animated GIF out of them, as well as doing effects like the fades. I use Adobe ImageReady, but there are free alternatives – Gurch 21:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Do you know some of the free alternatives? - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:45, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
The GIMP has plugins that can do a similar sort of thing, I think. Haven't used them myself, though – Gurch 21:53, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
What about Paint.NET? - PatricknoddyTALK (reply here)|HISTORY 21:55, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
I don't think so; at least, I can't find anything about it on the website – Gurch 22:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Smilies

Remember, you've got to take personal opinions (like mine or Quiddity's) with a grain of salt. Quiddity tends towards seriousness, while I'm a bit more fancy free. If you want to express yourself with emoticons, there is nothing in Wikipedia policy that impedes you from doing so. Each emoticon I've been using is a bonifide legal image on Wikipedia. For your convenience, I've copied the image wikicode, including the appropriate sizes, as a comment to the top of your talk page, for easy copying and pasting in edit mode. Enjoy. First Step Towards WP:GHR

Thank you so much for wanting to join the project. We really want you to join us! Partly because we are in need of participants, and partly because ... well, we want to welcome you to join..., as simple as that! Please sign up on our Paricipant List (Click on this link) under the subtitle of Participants, and please remember to add a template to your user page, so every Wikipedian would know you are part of this project. We will be expanding our projects, not just road included, but everything in the Golden Horseshoe.

Please enter this to your user page in order to create this template:

 Golden Horseshoe Roads

And it would show up like this: Golden Horseshoe Roads.

And if you don't mind, I can do things listed above for you.

Creator of WP:GHR, and participant of Outreach Department

I will send you the latest newslater of our WikiProject as soon as possible. It will probably be done by June, since I am kind of busy recently, working on List of Municipalities in the Golden Horseshoe.

Hi Patrick,
I would suggest you to put your name under "Active Participants", and remeber to put your locations, and date joined! Thanks again for joining!
