August 2018[edit]

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits[edit]

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. So we add the {{wait}} tag to the report, it goes to WP:UAA/HP for a week or more, and must then be reviewed again to see if the account has since become active before removing it. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:45, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I interpreted the instructions as "unless the user name is unambiguously egregious or offensive", which contain any offensive language or curse words, then wait until the user edits. as it had said at the top of the user creation page. QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 22:03, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You, I will hear out. But I am not even going to try to discuss it with the high school kid that has been "taking ownership" all of the LA Guns related articles.

Would you mind explaining what was wrong with this edit? I mean, sure, I admit, I went a little overboard with the address lookup sites, but they were not included in the original edit that the kid didn't approve of. I just added them to drill the point into him. 2601:983:8100:76B:ADE9:6797:AA51:2353 (talk) 16:49, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with the edit is that the sources do not connect the name "Kelly Nickels" with the name "Henri Perret," and thus are not verifiable. Because of this, I had deemed it to be original research, which "is used on Wikipedia to refer to material—such as facts, allegations, and ideas—for which no reliable, published sources exist. This includes any analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not stated by the sources."[1] Wikipedia policy states that original research will not be published because the sources used do not directly state the facts. If you need more information, see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Verifiability, and Wikipedia:No original research. Hope this helps! QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 17:21, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The one source (the one that needed translated) does plainly say it (both the name and family relation). And the copyright source (which is just one of dozens listed on that site) has both names with PKA, which stands for "Professionally known as", which means that the other name is his legal name. But, you are correct, the ASCAP/BMI information does need "research", even though it is all there in front of you.
And, just to point something out; Prior to January 2008, the name was there before someone claiming to be Kelly Nickels removed it. Which, IMO, should have been reverted as a COI. 2601:983:8100:76B:ADE9:6797:AA51:2353 (talk) 17:50, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I clearly didn't see the main title of the page you were talking about the first time, which does clearly list p.k.a. I thought that title was "Ain't the same..." I also didn't see the edit from the person claiming to be Kelly Nickels, as it was 10 years. I also must've tried to find "Pierre", not "Perret." I think the addition is fairly well cited, considering that before the person claiming to be Nickels removed it, it was unsourced, so go ahead and add it back. Just remove the irrelevant citations please. QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 18:43, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it may not have been your fault. I get different results depending on what "translator" I use. Using the browser translator in Chrome did not show the results at all. But using a place like google translate works. 2601:983:8100:76B:ADE9:6797:AA51:2353 (talk) 21:23, 10 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Girth Summit. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to User talk:HireRightOfficial— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help Desk. Thanks. GirthSummit (blether) 19:20, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean to post this in error? All I did was replace the speedy deletion tag? QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 19:21, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As discussed on my talk page, I'm very sorry for this - you're quite right, it was an error. I attempted to CSD the same page that you did, and I managed to revert you. I will be much more careful in future. Again, apologies. GirthSummit (blether) 00:12, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - First: I wish you a happy new year. I have seen that you have make many edit´s at this list. The status of the list in the English Wikipedia is January 3rd, 2020. The last time Proposition 65 list was updated was on December 29th, 2023. Would you like/have time to update the list in Wikipedia? I keep the German list up to date and unfortunately have no resources left for the English ones. Hence my request. Calle Cool (talk) 14:06, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can update that list. It might take a couple days to do that though. QUICKWITTEDHARE CONVERSE 02:56, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
