Hi, I can't find any record of him having played for Bristol Rovers, so I'm inclined to believe he didn't. He certainly didn't make any league appearances anyway. — Gasheadsteve Talk to me 16:18, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm gearing this up for FLC, and I've done a lot of work on it over the last few days to bring it in line with its Birmingham City equivalent (a lot of the text is shamelessly stolen from it... hah). Anyway, I'm now working on making articles for all the redlinked men – if you have time, could you possibly have a quick look through for me and pointing anything else out that could use some work?

Cheers, Cliftonianthe orangey bit 11:43, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Key. The colour/symbol/column stuff is a bit confusing at the moment. Maybe some of the US sports lists can help with layout, as they use colour more than the English. Your notes colour will needs a symbol.
    • I've tried to clarify them a bit better, and added the required symbol. Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Soccerbase isn't any good as a source for international caps, it's not something they do, as Chris Coyne#International appearances and his Soccerbase page will demonstrate.
  • It's unusual to have the country column containing the descriptive "Fooish" rather than the country "Fooland", and linking to something related to ethnicity or demographics. Per MOS:ICON#Use of flags for sportspeople, player nationality in a sport-related list should refer to sporting nationality, i.e. the country they played for or were eligible to play for. For instance, Maik Taylor is a NI international, but has no other connection with that country: as a British citizen born abroad he was eligible for any of the home nations, but describing him as Northern Irish or linking his sporting nationality to People of Northern Ireland would be to say the least misleading.
    • I'm well-versed on this particular situation (you may or may not know I'm an NI fan); the reason I've got it as it is is for consistency with the other LTFC articles (they are all using the "Fooish" construction). As far as I know, there aren't any players on this list in the same situation as Taylor, so I don't feel that a change is necessary (I also spent a f—ing age changing them over from "Fooland") – it also seems, to me at least, a lot more elegant to see "Tom Smith, Irish" than "Tom Smith, Ireland" which seems a bit disjointed to me. I understand your argument, but I think that in this situation how I've got it is best. Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
  • I'd call it Forward rather than Striker, which is a very modern invention.
  • Not sure I'd have Winger as a separate position.
  • You're probably OK with Soccerbase for the player apps post 1996/97, they seem to include the FLT in 1997/8. Be wary of the totals for players who started in Bailey and finished in Soccerbase...
  • If you're having to force-sort your <100 apps, why didn't I? what's different? or does mine not sort properly and no-one ever noticed?
    • I'm not sure, they were sorting fine until a couple edits ago, when they starting going wrong (It would sort by the first digit – "70" would appear above "562" for example). I just bit the bullet and force-sorted it. I think it may have something to do with the number of entries you have below 100, I'm not totally sure to be honest with you. Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Note "d" at the bottom of the list links Soccerbase to the page for some other club entirely :-)
Thanks for the help fella, have a drink Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:28, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
How about a compromise, if I unlink the nationalities, but leave it as "English, Irish" etc.? Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:58, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
I think what I'll do is leave it as "Fooish" but have them link to the respective national teams. That sound good? Cliftonianthe orangey bit 15:45, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
Alright fella, cheers for all your help. Keep well. :) Cliftonianthe orangey bit 15:53, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Middlesbrough F.C. edits

Hi, why have you reverted a possible vandalism to this page? In your description you said it was'nt referenced, this is not true and infact i was about to add more references. The article in the current state is both biased and an advert for M.F.C. and that is not the purpose of Wikipedia. Please reply --The Mercenary 73 (talk) 21:31, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for replying. I agree about your comment on the P.A. System in part as i was giving a view i had got by attending matches at the Riverside and one of the points of Wikipedia is educating people who have never experienced places like the Riverside. So i think your removing that was pretty unjust. As for removal of the geographic facts, that should'nt need referencing as they are undeniable facts and should be restored. I don't think people from outside the North-East of England can understand the true picture of the people and to deny the blatant fact that Newcastle and Sunderland fans don't regard the matches with Middlesbrough as a Derby, this is something that is common knowledge which but more importantly can be found within fanzines and probably on these clubs websites too. And to my final point in calling the fans of M.F.C. "wannabe's", if you research the meaning of the word - to become just like - you'll see that it's a perfect description as fans of the club DO WANT to have a club as prominent and successfull (in terms of trophies won) as Newcastle United and Sunderland. I hope that clears this up, cheers --The Mercenary 73 (talk) 22:10, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, re recent conversation. Could you reinstate my additions to the Middlesbrough F.C. page, as you remember you asked for references for the content concerning the supporters :-

Newcastle United, the First 100 years & more. by Paul Joannou ISBN:1899538208

You may well be aware of this, but according to Rothman's Football Yearbook AND Birmingham City - A Complete Record (by Tony Matthews), Barry Bridges scored 36 league goals for Birmingham City, and not 37 as stated on his wikipedia page.

Merges and attribution

If material is ported over as part of a merge, then providing the redundant one is left as a redirect to preserve history, and there's something like "merged from nameofarticle" in the history of the merged article, its OK. There's a couple of talk templates which help point people to the other chunk of history like {{merged-from}}. The problematic cut and pastes are those which leave no attribution, or which could simply have been done using the move tab. I see Woody has posted an explanation and done some tidying, his explanation is probably more succinct than mine. Oldelpaso (talk) 11:21, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Birmingham City F.C. Reserves and Academy

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. I noticed in my watchlist that somebody had added him to the roster on the main Wigan page, Luisitoakapipiman. Since I don't know as much about European football as a lot of other users, I basically decided to take their word for it, complete the information change on the necessary articles/templates, and try to find a source for it. List of footballers in England and Scotland by number of league appearances

I'd define any "former" player as a player who longer appears in any of the four league mentioned in the introduction. Therefore I'd say Johnson is eligible - he has retired & has made over 500 league apps - but should he return to play in the Football League, as unlikely as that seems, then he would no longer be eligible. I'm glad you spotted the category. I changed my mind part way through editing, but forgot to restore the categoty. Christian Benitez

Greetings. There is a problem with the logic found in the Luke Freeman discussion. It assumes that once a senior career starts, the youth ends at that point. The reality shows otherwise. If the facts show that he was doing both, then we as editors should display that fact. If he was making u-20 (youth) appearances in 2005, even while earning senior caps, then display that. It would be be incorrect and wrong to display otherwise (vice-versa as it would apply to his senior career). Take another example: Mauricio Baldivieso. This year he made his first senior cap at the age of 13 (crazy right?). Let's say (if he was still at Aurora) he would never gets another senior cap until he is twenty, but continues at the youth level till then. According to the standards set in the Luke Freeman case, his youth career ended in 2009 with that one lone senior cap, even though it was a one-off thing and he would continue at the youth level for much longer than 2009. Same thing with Benitez. Regards. Digirami (talk) 12:46, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your peer review comments. I haven't got around to addressing much from the peer review yet, but after reading what you had written I realised that I had somewhat blindly followed the format of previous similar lists without really giving it much thought. I will try to take a fresh look at the content and layout as well as addressing the specific points raised. More on Barry Bridges

Hello. Greetings from Oslo again. I thought I'd share some minor additional details on Barry Bridges' career. After his stint at Dereham Town (1978-79), he became manager of King's Lynn in May 1979. According to "An English Football Internationalists' Who's Who" by Douglas Lamming, he was their manager for "most of season 1979/80". But I'm inclined to believe a King's Lynn FC website claiming that he became manager in May 1979, leaving in November of that year.

(Apparently, he was named player-manager, but whether he played any games for them, I don't know. He certainly never scored for their first team.)

Oubiña - Reply

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

Regarding Borja Oubiña, i thank you for your inputs regarding the first two paragraphs of your message. I admit i am not very proficient as far as WP rules are concerned, i only try to do my best the best i can, but i'll admit i am a bit of an "anarchist" as far as some stuff goes. That said, i think i improved the piece considerably (as you have also).

Regarding the last "item", i do not take offense mate, no worries, but i was taken a little aback i'll also admit, because i thought my English was...how shall i put it? Sufficient+ (especially keeping in mind the field in which i edit mainly, soccer, where one does not need to be poetic and erudite), i would never call it poor (of course it is bad compared to a native), but you see it otherwise, OK, no problem.

Some of my changes come to mind: i don't think it's bad to show club names in full in storyline (especially since i see there is no pattern in articles of players, some have FC hidden, some have not, even in BOX), and i always, with foreign words - LA LIGA, COPA DEL REY - either hide link with native word or put word in italics, and i find that it is often reverted. I don't think PRIMERA DIVISIÓN is an English word, and this is EN.WIKI, that's my reasoning.

Of course, STRU, feel free to revert to the "MOS-compliant mode", i will not re-revert it, for sure. I just think the storyline is more than accurate and thorough, but i can be wrong of course.

Happy WIKI-break, safe return,

  • Nice teamwork in this unlucky footballer's page, mate, thank you very much for your inputs. Regarding your pertinent doubt ("what league?"): i think that if the parts in text that refer to competition links are well built in its beginnings, it will be quite understandable, but i do understand what you mean.

Take care, keep up the good work, VASCO - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 17:12, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO "here",

regarding this player, nice teamwork then! However, i'll point out the following (one doubt and one major doubt): i'll never understand why on earth does TOTTENHAM not suffice in BOX, and AL-AHLI (this one especially, as DOHA in brackets is nowhere in the club's full name!), and we have to have the full names, but OK, not going to revert those, i am not your "average edit-war-like editor", rest assured.

In INTRO: why did you remove the links on Qatar and Germany? I understand the concept of overlinking fully, but what "gives" in this case? I'm really baffled...

I see... Well, in spanish media the price is clear: 3 million pounds: As, El mundo deportivo, El correo digital, La voz de Asturias, etc. Difference in euros depending on the exchange rate used. --Banderas (talk) 10:31, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Please...

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

as always, thank you for your inputs, in this case at Miguel Marcos Madera, you are a very good editor. I would like for you, however, to leave my intro be - i have NEVER seen, in any player's intro, the date and year in time that a player joined a team (i think that's where body of article comes in).

In turn, i have "bulked up" INTRO a little bit, hope you like it, i will also respect your other storyline edits - although i don't know what good the overusage of the word LA LIGA (not even English) does. Also, if i say in storyline - i remember it well it was i who wrote the bit - that Míchel helped Sporting promote in 2007/08, one would think that it would go without saying that 2008/09 was in the first division - or as so many people prefer to say, LA LIGA. But fine, i am not going to edit war anymore - in case i just have - on this issue (i also thought AKA was better-looking in INTRO, there is also a WP article on that, but i will leave the "known as" also, do not worry).

Happy editing, happy 2010, from Portugal,

VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:18, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

  • As always my friend, your views have been addressed justly and politely, kudos to you on that. I will try to oblige in the best way that i can, take care.

Kind regards, VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:15, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Simon Rea

Same to you. Not really got a substantiated explanation for removing it, just thought I'd have it reflect what the infobox reads, although it's not particularly that important. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 21:50, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Darlington F.C.

I see you've had problems before with an IP user who incorrectly changes Darlington F.C. related pages. I've left a number of notes to User talk:79.69.155.46 but he continually ignores them and I've continued to revert Darlington F.C. I'm not sure all my changes are correct, but he is consistently ignoring policies such as WP:DASH, WP:V, WP:RS, WP:NOT. He's adding non-sensical and unsubstantiated info, he's adding large sections of info which is akin to a directory and not to an encyclopedia. He's even incorrectly changed the link to the Darlington F.C. home page. He's ignored my own edit summaries, ignored my messages on his talk page, so I'm not sure what else I could do. While his IP is the same at the moment, it occasionally changes to another one for another while and there is another user which I suspect may be the same person since his edits are very similar. Hope you can help. 91.106.97.173 (talk) 23:02, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

As you've probably noticed. I've also left notes for the anon user re their edits to player articles, but haven't previously looked at the club article. Not sure what can be done about the player articles, given that the editor concerned changes IP as soon as they get multiple warnings, and only edits them when Darlo have recently had a game. The club article is another matter. What it needs, basically, is (in my opinion, anyway :-)
  1. restructuring to include a similar range of sections to those used in other club articles, e.g. Colours and badge/crest, Supporters, Managers, and incorporate things like Mascot and (a minimal number of) Staff in the appropriate section;
  2. rewriting the history to get rid of the recentism: even in the cropped version there's more information about the 2008/9 season than about the first 120 years of the club; obviously it needs some detail of the past few years, given Reynolds, administration etc, but long lists of players signed and details of what the manager was thinking belong in a season article if at all, not on the main club page;
  3. making sure everything's properly sourced.
Do you think it might be an idea to post a suggestion on the article talk page, inviting participation in improving the article; and send notes inviting input from the more recent IPs, and also from User:Squares18, who's taken an interest in Darlington-related edits in the past? The next couple of days aren't good for me, but after that I can put some work in on it. Are you a Darlington fan, or knowledgeable on the subject? I can do research, but certainly don't have the specific knowledge to tell what's particularly important to the club's history and what isn't. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:39, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm not a Darlington fan. I came across the page when I needed to do some research for work and fixed it. Then noticed all the fixes were removed and consistently so.
You're particularly correct about the history section - there is little about the history of the club but instead unnecessary details about the last couple of years.
My only suggestion would be for someone to fix the page, but unfortunately lock it to IP editing, since that is where he seems to do most of his work except for the possible User:Squares18 as you pointed out, who I'd suggest is the same person. 91.106.97.34 (talk) 22:26, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Patrick Deane

definitely has a second e. See the google results for loads of mentions of "Deane" playing for Hibs youths last season as they won a league and cup double. He got a senior contract from Hibs but was punted almost straight away by a new manager. Having seen him once or twice I was slightly surprised to read that he had signed for an English league side (albeit a struggling one). Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:59, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Ron Saunders

As a rule of thumb that's true. Although to be honest we're not particularly found wanting with Saunders. It covers his date and place of birth, the three league cup finals (two wins), the league win with Villa, the Portsmouth scoring record and promotion, and lists the clubs he was at with dates and transfer fees where known, Everton to West Brom inclusive. To be honest there isn't a lot else in the article. WFCforLife (talk), Help wikipedia. Make the pledge. 10:05, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I seem to be having a problem with this article. In my opinion the present references are inadequate and the tag at the top of the article should stay but it gets removed. Can you "arbitrate". Cheers. --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:23, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
This relates to Ken Furphy, but is also relevant to this discussion. In this sort of instance (indadequately sourced, but with some reliable sourcing nonetheless), would you mind using {{no footnotes}} instead of {{BLP sources}}? Articles tagged with the latter are on course to be deleted in the very near future. While the sourcing isn't adequate in Furphy's case (I maintain that it was for Saunders, but nonetheless you've done some fantastic work there), it's not bad enough that the whole thing should be consigned to oblivion. Regards, WFCforLife (talk) 22:40, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
If that's the case that's fine, although I was under the impression that it includes {{BLP sources}} as well. WFCforLife (talk) 23:09, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for the explanation. With all the commotion, there's so much noise yet so little information at the moment! Regards, WFCforLife (talk) 23:44, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I have blocked a few IPs already, I don't quite understand their aversion to discussion? Due to the lack of people updating Leeds' pages I always try to update it with information thats true, but dont recieve any help. I dont know how to insert the links to reference them? or in the case of audio radio interviews how that it can be verified unless a written script is published? It would be nice if someone who knew how to source the information could do do on the information?

Goalscorer help

Hi there

Am I right in thinking - from some of your edits - you have a copy of Birmingham City's The Complete Record? If so, do you think you could help me out with who were the Blues goalscorers in an FA Cup victory over Wolves on 9 January 1954? Many thanks Wolvesweb (talk) 16:06, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Peter Haddock

I must admit that I was only borrowing that book, but from what I can remember it just contains the league statistics and the transfer fee, but nothing about him being a postman. Cheers -- BigDom 11:53, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Duane Courtney

I got the dates and the stats from his history on Football Manager 10. Although I realise that this may not be the most reliable source in the world, it can be helpful for lower league stats that are unavailable anywhere else and from my experience they are generally quite accurate. Feel free to remove them if you disagree though. Cheers, -- BigDom 17:13, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

List of Watford F.C. players

Sorry if my removal of the comment seemed a little bit underhanded or ill advised. In hindsight I should have copied it to the talk page and also left it there, but at the time I (misguidedly) assumed that you would be happy for me to move it.

I really do appreciate your feedback. It truly is one of the best reviews I've seen on wikipedia, and I'm extremely sorry if in my comments about redlinks I have come across as ungrateful or ungracious. Regards, WFCforLife (talk) 20:32, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi there Struway. Just to let you know that I have just created the rather stubby Birmingham Charity Cup and wondered if you had any Small Heath/Birmingham/City -based info on this. My source lists only Albion's results. Cheers. --Jameboy (talk) 21:45, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

As always, massively grateful for you taking the time to help me with identifying what's wrong with one of "my" lists. So, (and phew), I've made a few changes, and I'd really appreciate you popping back in the next week or so to see what's gone on. The FLRC is at Wikipedia:Featured list removal candidates/List of Ipswich Town F.C. players/archive1 for your convenience. As ever, thanks for your time and energy in reviewing these things. Ian Paul Smith

Cheers for the comments, I had simply misread the {{BLP sources}} tag, thinking it was an unreferenced tag, so I have replaced that. Per the Burnley citation, I have changed that to "left the club" rather than "was released". The Sheff Wed cite I had put in the wrong place, and was using to reference the fact that he had joined the club. Per the Kidderminster, I could see that it didn't say he had joined from Alfreton, but it did say that he joined. Hope this helps a bit, -- BigDom 20:42, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Okay, sorry for any confusion I might have caused. -- BigDom 21:19, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Amateur Cup

Yup, still got it on my shelf at home. I'll endeavour to fill in the blanks next time I'm on WP at home. Somewhat contrary to the title, the book doesn't include the qualifying rounds, so any seasons in which they didn't reach the rounds proper won't be included....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:01, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Kevin Phillips

Thanks for the note. I'll have a look at my reference books tonight or tomorrow and see if I can find where the problem is. Cheers. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 11:04, 29 March 2010 (UTC) p.s. I've just about forgiven Brum for the way we were put out of the League Cup. Graeme Murty has never been the same since. Stephen Carr is not my favourite player.

It took a while to find as my latest reference book was published in 2003 i.e. before KP joined Saints. After a bit of digging, I think the problem was in the match against Manchester United on 31 January 2004. Soccerbase[2] credit the first Saints goal to KP, whereas the match report[3] says that Brett Ormerod deflected KP's long-range drive past the keeper, so presumably everyone but Soccerbase has credited that goal to BO. Unfortunately, Soccerbase have BO scoring 5 league goals in 2003/04[4] as does the Saints website[5] so I'm still a tad confused! I suggest that KP's article is amended to reflect the consensus of opinion, but I'm not sure where that leaves the Ormerod article. Who'd be a statistician? Cheers. Cheers for sorting those out, I honestly don't know who's done those. Like you say, I think it's time to at least change my password. Although to be honest I was considering leaving this username behind and starting again from scratch just to be extra sure. -- BigDom 09:47, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Date to change leagues for promoted/relegated clubs

Hi Struway, Thanks for reverting the Hull City article. Have done that a couple times myself. Can you tell me whether there is greater consensus about changing the dates on the official last day of the season anywhere? We have it on the Hull City article talk page, but I was wondering whether it was discussed anywhere else as a guideline to use for all clubs and leagues. I glanced over the talk page on the WikiProject Football page but didn't see anything. Cheers for any help, Northumbrian (talk) 14:11, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

There's been a bit of movement on this. re: Jack Hall

Ha. Well it's clear you know a whole lot more about it than I do. Thanks for telling me. Did you revert my edit already or should I do it? I have to admit I'm at a disadvantage - I'm using a stats website for Man City (mcfcstats.com) but unfortunately that renders me zero information about players' previous careers. Mind if I ask what your source is, by the way? Incidentally, one thing I did is correct. List of Birmingham City F.C. players lists Jack Hall as leaving Brum in 1914, whereas the infobox thought that he was at Brum AND Hucknall Town during that time, so I guess at least that can be kept, right? Falastur2 Talk 11:59, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks very much. I might just take you up on that. I'm currently plowing through the ridiculously long but surprisingly interesting list of City season articles as yet unmade and more than half the players I'm writing in have no Wikipedia articles. I have no intention to make those articles until AT LEAST when I've finished these articles (which could take several years at the current rate) but every now and again I get a player like this who my sources (I'm also using User:Oldelpaso/Manchester City players without articles just can't entirely decipher so I may consult you on a few players who I can't decide on the identities of.
In the meantime, could I just ask you to check a few things? I'm fine with players without articles, but I've found a number of players who even OldElPaso doesn't know much about - players I don't even know the first names of, and personally I'd prefer to be able to fill in full names. I've made a user subpage for those players. There's a number of them so obviously I'm not going to ask you to do them all, but if you could fill in some of them - any of them - that would be brilliant. In your own time, too. There's no hurry. I'll be working on my City articles for months and they'll be around for years, so if you don't have the time it's no problem.
Thanks very much for the offer of help. Only do as much as you have the time for, of course. And if it's too much trouble, I don't mind at all. I'm really not trying to use up your free time, honestly. I actually had no idea how many names I'd end up with on that subpage. I thought there was only three or four. Falastur2 Talk 12:51, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, thanks. I was reviewing your work. It's great, thanks again. Seems I missed a few players on mcfcstats' player database - I got so used to it not having articles on early players I started relying solely on what I had on Wikipedia. Thanks greatly for your help. Incidentally, does your Joyce book cover wartime players? Specifically WW1? I think I'm going to run into a few wartime guests whom OldElPaso hasn't picked up on, and since War Leagues were "non-competitive" and the guests usually barely played any games at all, so chances are their stats aren't recorded in his books on City history. Of course, having asked you to do so much, I won't ask you to look anything up right now. I wouldn't want to feel like I was piling work on you - as I say, I'm happy to just plow on with my stuff and come back another time. Anyway, thanks again. Falastur2 Talk 15:39, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Bilbao

Yeah, you're right, it is a shame that it's become unpleasant, but we had a reviewer (KV5) who opposed, partially based on the former name. The page was moved, in part, to satisfy that concern. The oppose was then capped, and then the nominator said he'd move it back as soon as it was promoted. I felt that was particularly poor form, making a temporary change to assure an oppose is removed.

Thanks for all your detailed reviews, just one thing: with your reviewing eagle-eyes, I'm surprised you missed "and men formed in Basque clubs"...! The Rambling Man (talk) 09:12, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

You know what, the idea of changing something specifically to pass FLC really, genuinely had never crossed my mind. Perhaps I'll need to keep an eye on this sort of thing in the future...! As for the prose, it's pretty poor actually, in a number of places, but I'm disengaging once again, too much going on in real life to let this stuff get to me. All the best. Regarding Guti (footballer)'s talkpage and akin - by the way thanks for your input - i have been engaged in a strange discussion with another user (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Off2riorob#Guti), could you please tell me what am i doing wrong (my talkpage will provide more details, see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:VascoAmaral#Guti). I'm started to feel i committed a crime, rather than improving WP.

Kind regards - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:14, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Joe Hart

Hello. Not sure why you keep removing the {{England U21 Squad Euro 2009}} template from Joe Hart. He was a member of that squad, as shown at 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship squads and in the UEFA match reports, e.g. the semifinal, where he scored in the penalty shootout. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:42, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

  • this is youth squads... HAHAHA Hoising (talk) 13:13, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
  • When a player changes club, we replace the previous club squad template with that of the new club, but squads for national team competitions are treated differently. If a player is in the squad for a national team competition, whether it's at under-21 or senior level, then that squad template is kept as a historical record. As at James Milner, who was also in the 2009 under-21 squad and the current WC squad, or at Pelé, who was in 4 World Cup squads, all 4 of which are correctly included in his page. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:32, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
  • you said that world Cup squads is youth squads... HAHAHA ... "whether it's at under-21 or senior level": NO WAY!!! Hoising (talk) 14:55, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, maybe you don't understand what I'm saying. We don't remove international competition squad templates from player articles. It doesn't matter if the template is for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship or the 2006 FIFA World Cup or the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. If the player was in the squad, then they keep the template. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:15, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

List of FC Barcelona presidents

Hello. I have created a list of all presidents of Barcelona here, and I would like to hear you input on the featured list nomination here, because it has not received any reviews for 14 days now. If you could add whether you support, (are) neutral or oppose the list, that would be very helpful as well. Cheers! Sandman888 (talk) 06:47, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I've seen you around quite a bit lately and almost without exception been very impressed. Have you ever considered running for adminship? I think you would have a decent chance of passing, and would be happy to nominate you... Alzarian16 (talk) 19:22, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

"cleanup"

Sorry man, I've developed a lot of bad habits here over the last four or five years, so it's taking me some time to get out of them. I am trying to avoid the "cleanup" summary, but sometimes it feels adequate. Anyway, my source is the Official Manchester United Illustrated Encyclopedia. – PeeJay 15:16, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello

I was just about to undo that revision I accepted. Thanks for your help Tommy! [message] 19:22, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, a troubling soul. Good intentions but execution lacking in compliance with our guidelines and policies, I've come across his stuff a few times before. It's tiresome, I know. If you see it again, let me know, I've already warned him... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:36, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Harry Kent

Thanks for the heads up. I do actually intend to spend some time on his page once the tasks I've taken on slow down a little. All things considered, he's probably second only to Graham Taylor in the list of our greatest managers.

While I'm here, I was wondering if you would mind casting a quick eye over List of top-division football clubs in UEFA countries? It's a work in progress, and I'm certainly not looking for expressions of keep or remove. But while it's at FLRC, I thought we may as well get some extra eyes on it. One of the historic failings of FLC (which is slowly improving) is that once a list is promoted there's unlikely to be much work done other than periodic updates. I see this as a good opportunity to take it from a technically sound FL to a truly great one. Regards, --WFC-- 09:04, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

List of top-division football clubs in UEFA countries

Wow. If you could I'd be extremely grateful. Don't worry about interference, Oldelpaso is pretty busy IRL and I'll steer clear of it until you're done.

I have the opposite problem at the moment; I won't have access to most of the Watford books for a while after this month, so I'm trying to figure out the most productive way to use them. The four main areas I have in mind are to expand some of our more prominent player's articles with the pretty substantial coverage in the "Cult Heroes" and history books, creating a records and statistics page, completely overhauling the history, or try to take the club's page to GA standard (although obviously I won't be able to nominate it due to sourcing). --WFC-- 11:30, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to pick up the pace a bit later this week. Regards, --WFC-- 16:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Struway, thanks for reviewing the above FLC. Can you revisit it when you get the chance, and cap/strike your resolved concerns? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 14:53, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Are we not allowed to put rumours on peoples pages? This wasn't a joke, it was a genuine rumour- I'm a wikipedia user, I have no sense of humour.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mstratford69 (talkcontribs) 11:36, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Stru, you're always thorough and any support from you always end in a snowball, so would you care to review my last FLC, List of FC Barcelona records and statistics? (watching here) Cheers, Sandman888 (talk) Latest FLC 13:19, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the remarks, could you see if they're answered satisfactory? Especially reg. top-scorer list. Btw, the "top transfer" is used by all the other FL's of larger clubs, that's why I added it in the first place. See if removing "top" would avoid WP:OR. Cheers, Sandman888 (talk) Latest FLC 09:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi Struway, can you take a second (or third) look? As always, your detailed reviews of football lists at FLC are much appreciated. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 15:02, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, it probably was a bit soppy. But seriously, stay picky- it's a good thing for the project. Regards, --WFC-- 20:12, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Special permission?

It would seem you're monopolising the pages on Birmingham City F.C. If I want to edit a page related to BCFC with reliable, published sources, do I still have to ask your permission first? Every edit I've made in the past you've adjusted for no other reason than to be awkward. Just stop it. Wikipedia belongs to everybody. 82.37.241.57 (talk) 21:54, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

If I had any idea what you were on about, I might be able to give you a sensible answer. As it is, I can't, sorry. Struway2 (talk) 08:02, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Darlington

Hi there. Can you just take a quick look at Darlington F.C. I know you've blocked a couple of edits this week because of the non-MOS edits, but one has slipped through the net. 91.106.122.56 (talk) 00:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Stru. I was wondering if you could do me a favour? I've been doing alot of work on the article above recently and believe its coming along well. I'll nominate it for a peer review soon to gauge opinion before taking it to FL, but the red links need to go. I've whittled them down now to pre-war players and haven't gone any further because I don't have enough material to feel confident about doing them. If I do then they'll be very bare and I don't want to do that if I can avoid it. Since you've helped out before I was wondering if you could do a few when you have some free time? If you need assistance on something in the future then I'd be glad to help. Cheers. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 16:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely, stubs like the ones you did for Swann, Hakin and Boden would be great. No worries about the kit. I'm sure there are more fancy ways of doing them but messing around in paint seems to work fine for me. I want to do this one eventually but don't think I have the strength yet! (my first season as a supporter that was). I had a feeling there might be a snag with the non-free images. I really wanted to include them because they're among the most legendary of our players, but obviously there are other free alternatives available like Shelley and Edworthy. Thanks for helping. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 07:11, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Good stuff. You would be correct too about the lack of birth dates. I created articles for four or five players at the beginning of the list without birth dates and didn't really want to do any more like that. I've done some more work on the article today by adding captains who won honours. How do you think it looks? Argyle 4 Lifetalk 13:50, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Heh fair enough, I like the idea of sorting in the Watford seasons list but it must have been a pain in the arse to format. I can see what you mean, I'll get that done shortly. About the floodlights, it is a bit better but it won't be great until this gets done (fingers crossed for May). We replaced these beauties in 2007 with some rubbish looking temporary ones until the redevelopment happens. That game was one of the first under them and I do remember it was a bit dark, we shouldn't have lost and Simon Walton put in his only decent performance that night. Not that we'll be playing again any time soon! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 14:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
I could've sworn he was listed as Cyril Eastwood and didn't have a birth date when I last looked. They've been on a big drive this year adding pictures and information on each player. I probably last looked when I was creating the list, but I wouldn't rule out just having dumb moment! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 19:39, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Adjusted the list accordingly. I didn't expect this many done so soon! Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:23, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
Of course, but even basic cut-and-paste articles take a while to create. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:36, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Peter Till

Hi, would you mind doing me a little favour if you can and confirm whether The PFA Footballers' Who's Who 2007–08 lists Peter Till's full name (which is just "Peter Till")? I ask as it would appear on this and this that genealogy sites like Findmypast.com are not considered reliable and so an alternative source is probably necessary. Thanks for the comments - I wasn't ware of the discussion about blank dates in infoboxes; I'll bear it in mind in future, although this "rule" seems to be ignored more often than not. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:00, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Is there anything that could persuade you to support? I have tried to get Giant2008 to comment on your preference for center-alignment, he has not so far, but I honestly believe it looks better when it's straight and it's a rather minor aesthetic issue. José Dominguez - My defense

Hi there STRUWAY, VASCO here,

Please excuse me if i got out of hand in my summary, just that an anon "user" removed an entire chunk of storyline without any word in summary, and that really gets me going. Not justifying anything, just that my tolerance to vandalism is growing ever so smaller.

Have a happy weekend, sorry for any incovenience - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:37, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

  • My previous message was written as you can see, very late, and i was also "under the influence" a bit. Now, i'll elaborate/add:

Man, do i feel silly, i was clearly an idiot, period! The user did not remove anything, i was mislead by the diff's display, it seemed that way. I am not being sarcastic when i say this: i deserved a block for that action, if only a 5-10 day one. Please accept my apologies on behalf of the good users of the site (yourself, the anon user at Dominguez and the vast majority of the people here - i too am a very-well intended user, but my manners leave a lot to be desired).

I really thought it was vandalism man (maybe i have dealt with so many lowlifes at the site that i am beginning to see ghosts?), which leads to the following development: i promised, the following week, i would tone down on my summaries with "positive users" - this one does not count, because i stupidly thought it was vandalism. However, as i have stressed to other people already, it will be very difficult to control myself with vandals and the habitual "disruptors", very difficult indeed (anger management issues, and i am not kidding, "honestest" of truths). Yes you are correct, i should walk away for a bit, but i am kind of "hooked", so to speak.

Last but not least...even though i deserved it, i see the pattern continues: 1 - i go out of line (in this case of Dominguez - way, WAY out of line), i am reprimanded and threatened (and returning to vandals, i have had some "people" come to my user/talk page and call me all kind of vile names - "c*unt", "f*ck off", the lot; the "person" who called me the latter did not even get one warning in his page, i checked it - something i NEVER did, even to vandals, although i admit "human waste" is also very low, i am not playing the victim); 2 - i work my tail off improving several articles (no one is making me Struway, i do it willingly of course), i have NEVER received one kind word or encouragement for the improvements on this or that page, something i have seen is common practice here. Strange indeed...

Hope you can, again, accept my apologies, and a promise of a table being turned in my behaviour, overall. However, i stress again, vandals and akin i will have a very hard time dealing with, unfortunately. Returning to Dominguez, thank you very much for the link you sent me alongside your second message, it helped me improve article in its intro. However, i must say that, in the interview which i have read over and over, NOTHING is said that corroborates the anon user's input, the player representing A.D. Fafe. I have retrieved it from EXTERNAL LINK#2.

Let's hope for the best, kind regards, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 19:00, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Again i feel silly (although not "dangerously silly", just "silly" :)...Indeed, the interview refers to him joining FAFE. Another thing which was news to me (and to all who have edited the article i think) is that his first teams were loans from S.L. Benfica. Retrieved it duly to the box.

Thanks for your quick and kind reply, keep it up - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:13, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
