It tells you at the top "Wikipedia requires significant coverage about the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" the sources you have do not verify his notability. Press releases are not reliable sources.

Server lift

I have limited experience contributing to Wikipedia. I'm writing content about the server lift. No other content or examples exist on wikipedia. The only way I know to show examples, images, specifications and details about the device is to link to the manufacturer's pages. You have removed my external links so I am apparently violating some rules. I have read many other articles that link to external websites. Take this page for example - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tractor_Supply_Company

Please understand that this is not a rant. It is a request for assistance or clarification. Please advise.

I'm afraid that, like many others, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is about. It is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects. A7 on CB Entertainment

Hello Theroadislong. Speedy deletion work is important and I do appreciate the effort. I would just ask that you please review the criteria carefully because accuracy is also important. On that issue, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of CB Entertainment as an article that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the topic under CSD A7. That criterion did not apply because working with notable artists is a credible indication of "importance or significance". Remember that CSD A7 is a lower standard than what is required to demonstrate notability – it does not, for example, require that the article's text already contain citations to reliable sources that would be necessary to prove notability, but only that it contain a claim that, were it true, might reasonably make the subject a valid encyclopedia topic (if proper sourcing could later be found). Hi, about the page you took as evidence of the correct title--that it is not referencing the proper name of the bellower, but its descriptive name (and not properly spelled at that). That being said, I can tell that you get the final word so I am not going to "undo" to the title that the museum has on the photograph. You have mostly really improved the article and I thank you. Thank you for your feedback. I'm not at all disappointed that my article had been declined - in fact, given I'm new to WIKI, I expected it to be! You had mentioned, "Notability." I'm not what sure makes someone notable exactly, but I've listed some of the exposure I've gotten lately - I can provide links and references:

Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman, Ralph Nader Radio Hour, Huff Post Live, Chris Hedges - ON CONTACT, A Just Cause Radio (July 26, Aug. 16), David Feldman Show, CBS 4 Miami, New Yorker Magazine, Miami Herald, Think Progress, and Prison Legal News. I also presented before the Criminal Justice Committee in Tallahassee, FL. To date I've been on over two dozen radio and TV shows, had dozens of profiles, quotes, or mentions in newspapers, online press, and magazines.

I'll work on improving my references and would appreciate some direction as to a template I can insert content and references.

Ah, you know, I may have missed something. He seems to be a member of the Royal Irish Academy. Doesn't that meet "The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the IEEE)." Edits to draft

    I appreciate the responses Theroadislong,

   I don't see a conflict of interest in the article as there are no declaratory claims, mostly just general information. I am not sure how much more reliable sources you can ask for then published articles, especially in a field as marginal as classical guitar.

 Seems as the Brad Conroy (Musical Artist) draft coincides with other similar artists. See; Fareed Haque and countless other articles on Wikipedia.  Seems that the Brad Conroy (Musical Artist) draft has much more credibility and cited sources.

Wikipedia does not consider blogs to be reliable sources, you have a list of sources but no inline citations, and you are strongly advised not to write autobiographies, if you are notable someone will write an article about you at some point. Theroadislong (talk) 16:48, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

I would like to thank you for you help on my first and only page, regarding Marco Avellaneda. Seeing as how it is my first article, your comments and advice have been taken into consideration. However, I must tell you that I am certainly not Avellaneda nor know him in any way. I am a finance student and recently read one of his books. After seeing that he did not already have a page, I decided to attempt to make one myself as a kind of anonymous appreciation of what I learned from his work. It is in no way a press release or an autobiography but after reading your language changes I certainly saw why you may have though this; I think it was the persuasive essay writer in me that embellished it! I will continue reviewing it to ensure it's as academically neutral as it should be.

In addition, I would humbly suggest that you reconsider what "appropriate sources" can consist of. I firmly believe that in this day and age twitter more than amply makes a good judge of a person's track record of stances in a wide array of topics. Moreover, I employed his CV which I found online and his official NYU profile as well as other material. The combination of these, I think have given me a very clear and relatively neutral (although certainly my respect for his intellect is difficult to remove from my own bias).

Please let me know what you think of my remarks and feel free to revisit the page itself next week as I will have compiled additional sources and reviewed the language further.

I'm afraid that Twitter is hardly ever considered a reliable source and his CV is of no use, since Wikipedia has essentially no interest in what anybody or any organisation says or wants to say about themselves, but is only interested in summarising what independent people have published about a subject. I would like to understand your reason for speedy deletion of my account and article.

As noted on the talk page of the article, I am presently working on inline citations and have specifically made a note in the teahouse to get help with adding those citations.

This is also not an autobiography, and it's extensively sourced and meets wikipedia's current content guidelines.

I can understand your concern that the article isn't finished yet, but that is also noted on the talk page.

I'd like you to consider helping to improve the article, and that the subject in question is well beyond "notable" as the dozens of citations point to, and further, not just at a local level, but at a national government level, and an international education level.

Can you please explain your process so I can better improve the article?

The speedy delete template is on your user page not the article you have created. Your user page contains content that is inappropriate, it should only contain info pertinent to editing at Wikipedia not links to other stuff. Robert J Rubel Article

The references to wikipedia are for the references section which include extensive ISBN numbers and external links as appropriate to the subject being referenced. As I understood what I read, this was typical for when a statement is made that has and also requires extensive sources to avoid clutter.

In the case of general statements such as "Has been teaching routinely since 2007" it makes more sense to list a reference list according to what i read than to list each and every reference individually, especially since not every single performance is covered by the media, and this is true of other articles for example, any popular band that has been touring since X date, isn't required to list a mass of references, but a reference listing showing a regular performance record. This is to comply with standard avoiding clutter.

Another way to do it would be to say he has performed X times with a citation for each one, but that's actually an inaccurate statement and would be improper reporting, because again, not every single performance or writing is covered by the media, but that doesn't mean we should assert that they don't exist.

I'm happy to change it but I'd like to know what you suggest to format it better. I've put something like two months of research into this article, so I'm pretty sure I can prove whatever you'd like. Some of it is on various pages of things, and some things, I have a real challenge for because I have the pictures, say, of the penthouse and playboy features, but they are archived and in old formats that aren't even visible anymore, however, I can't post the picture because it's technically their copywritten material, unless there is some kind of exception that can be made for reference; in this case you'd know better than I would.

Please be aware, I'm still relatively new to writing and editing at Wikipedia so the standards and practices might not be interpreted as exacting as you have come to understand them in your extensive experience.

I respect that you seem to be a well decorated contributor and welcome your thoughts on how to better format it.

Each and every substantive fact in the article needs a reliable source and blogs are not usually considered reliable either. I understand what you are saying, but when it comes to the three instances you are talking about, we're discussing "He's an author" so it links to his bibliography which has extensive ISBN numbers. how is that not a notable source when it can be readily proven? Do you want me to link to the ISBN database? As I understand those books are cited correctly. Can you please offer a constructive criticism that includes a solution? Telling me it's wrong and I don't "get it" doesn't help me fix it.

Can you please explain what the problem you are having is, and how I should address it directly?

COI tag on UNSW page

Raise it on the talk page, as the template requires. Note though that: (1) just because the editor's username is "unswedits" does not evidence a conflict; (2) the template requires there to be a "major contributor" who may have a conflict, but that user has made three relatively minor edits; and (3) the template also directs that it not be used "unless there are significant or substantial problems with the article's neutrality as a result of the contributor's involvement." Dear Theroadislong, I have found on the [WikiProject Academic Journals/Writing guide] information that if the journal is Open Access it can be assigned to this category. Could you add this article to [[Open Access] category?

And the next question: in the mentioned Writing guide for Academic Journals I have found information that the image of the cover can be placed in the infobox. How to to it? I do ask because I have been accused for so many violations and infringements on Wikipedia that I am afraid of touching it at all.

I found false information or misleading information

How do I change information that has been added which is deliberately misleading? I was trying to make amendmaents - I now realise they may have been too controversial - so how to change false records? Thanks for your amendments - I think the first editing I did was trying to reverse some of the recent changes which are not an accurate representation of fact (in my opinion, this is propaganda to mislead - perhaps based on a recent dismissal/resignation). trying to get it right...

ok -so I'm new to this, the sources I added in the last edit - were they all ok except for the blog (I don't know where the blog came from so I can see that is an issue). The 'Encounter on the edge' link was a reported document, an online copy of the booklet. This is from an external source but reviewed by several organisations before it is printed. Is that Ok to use? I'm trying to find a way to add that information about the extra churches being stared without it being removed! Afternoon,

Looking for some advice really. My page Warfield Church was approved by the usual processes and is now informative without being an advert. I do have a link to one of the vicars, but to that end I only inserted his start date and resignation date and nothing else on the area that pertained to him. It is all historical backed with sourced research. However, truthwins316 who has made a lot of edits recently is a disgruntled x-employee (from 2008 I think) and is using the page to in some way get revenge. According to this, the only time it says NOT to use a list is when "a passage is read easily as plain paragraphs". Please please help me! I do not know how to edit correctly the address of the residence for Dr Richard Beeching. I know that at the moment it is incorrect! I have tried several times to correct it to "Little Manor, Lewes Road, East Grinstead. James the Cat

Hello theroadislong I've been trying to update the James the Cat page (first attempt a few days back and again this eve - UK time) I'm the creator of James the Cat and made the films, my company is Canning Factory. Much of the information on the JTC page is either incorrect or badly needs updating. I see that you removed my edit and think that the information is coyrighted and is also unreferenced. The copyright notice on the JTC page is incorrect and needs amending. "unreferenced" Do you mean I have to prove that what I write about James the Cat is true or do you mean the correct reference marks had not been inserted and so the new edit was invalid?

As I'm new to the Wikipedia protocols, I don't know how to reference the edits, so I'd be grateful for any help to insert the correct information.  What does "Watch this page" mean?

Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which summarises what independent sources have published about subjects and has essentially no interest in what anybody or any organisation says or wants to say about themselves on Wikipedia, we need reliable sources independent of the subject. Edward Scaife

Hi, Thank you for your message re. my recently created article "Edward Scaife", which I had attempted unsuccessfully to import and translate from French Wikipedia, using https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Content_translation#Try_the_tool. I've just spent an hour or so trying to translate it myself using google, but unfortunately, the page has been deleted by an administrator while I was in mid translation. I am annoyed, to say the least, as your message stated I had 2 weeks to translate it (I would have had it done in another 30 min. or so), and this is a complete waste of my time. Can you please give me some idea of why an administrator would take such a destructive action, without communicating in any way? Or is it just another example of wikipedia bullying? If so, where can I go to raise a complaint?

Thank you for your comment regarding COI. As a resident with an interest in my locality, I am satisfied that I do not have a conflict of interest. Despite reading the appropriate Wiki pages, I am now confused following your comment. Can you tell me what has led you to believe that I might have a COI? New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Theroadislong,

A HUGE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

Adding a very narrowly focussed link to a very broad article is strongly discouraged by the external links guideline. We're trying to post our initial company profile on Wikipedia, but this is our 2nd attempt that has not passed the benchmark. Our initial attempt was admittedly a bit too "sales" oriented, but the 2nd attempt was largely grounded in sources/references from reputable sites. USAToday, HuffingtonPost, HomeAlarmReport... We also noticed that the old version was being referenced for deletion most recently, in addition to the newest draft here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LivSecure_Home_Security

We just don't know what other sources are needed. If you could help to explain what else we need to verify, we would be happy to comply. Like I said, this 2nd attempt removed the product listings and the self-promotion, the listing itself seemed to be in line with and on par with other comparable products that have accepted Wikipedia listings.

Large watchlists

I find it useful for many reasons, mostly dealing with long-term problems, but I do try to trim mine from time to time when articles become relatively stable and well-maintained.

There is a way to create lists similar to watchlists that are publicly viewable: WP:PWL. I haven't used it yet, but have been thinking of doing so for the articles I remove from my watchlist, so I can still track them while not having them clog my watchlist. --Ronz (talk) 18:39, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
