Flag Rush updates
I left this message in the Flag Rush talk page, but since I'm a hopeless noob I'm leaving it here too.
I stumbled onto a reference to a Flag Rush in a Minnesota newspaper and immediately Googled it. Nothing. The Wikipedia article doesn't come close to doing these events justice. Here's a link with some news snippets I collected relating to Flag Rushes.

- I can't open that one either... Oh well. What I think you're describing are PDFs of the actual newspaper pages? I would cite the newspaper issues themselves (and not worry about the fact that they are PDF files online). But I would use the URL that leads to the PDF. Copy Content to a Redirect Page?
I had already written an answer so here it is: You are right that copy-pasting should not be done. It breaks our license by hiding the page history. You can just move the page over the redirect in this case where the redirect has no other edits. It doesn't have to be deleted first by an administrator. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:08, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

- Right, non-admins can only move over a redirect when the page creation is the only edit and it redirects to the page you are moving. The official website is inconsistent about the naming but I guess they are in a rebranding phase and haven't updated everything. I have made the move. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:23, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

I was a bit moved by your user page presentation regarding Wikipedia and public school usage. My brother's wife teaches the 6th grade here in California and says there are several reasons why Wikipedia is blocked on public school computers. One of their main concerns of course are some of its articles about pornography, and that's putting it mildly, as there are clearly some disturbing articles that (attempt to) fall under this heading. Without linking to some of the more disgusting examples (and I'm no religious fanatic or a tight-laced prude when it comes to sex), they simply don't want young and impressionable students encountering some of this degrading material. Another concern is that there is the common perception that Wikipedia is largely edited by juveniles and tv junkies, as there are many thousands of articles about video games and television shows, giving the impression that Wikipedia has become a glorified TV guide and a promoter of video games. This undermines the integrity and reputation that Wikipedia should be striving for if it has any desire to have its otherwise many fine articles received in public academia. Despite the fact that articles covering e.g.science and history must be cited with reliable sources, most if not all colleges will not allow a student to use Wikipedia as a source for term papers, reports, etc. If Wikipedia is roundly shunned by educational institutions then, sad to say, much of the effort that goes into Wikipedia is wasted. I've made a couple of incidental appeals to this effect when the opportunity presented itself, but evidently it fell on deaf ears. One can only wonder what the main priority at Wikipedia is -- it doesn't seem to be the promotion of education. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:42, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
- You pose interesting questions, to be sure. I don't have all the answers and, honestly, I don't think anyone does. Wikipedia's mission, goals, practices, are all evolving. Perhaps to a lesser degree than 10 years ago or so. As a teacher myself (Elementary through Graduate School in my 35 years), I have no problems with the content of Wikipedia with students certainly from the middle school on up. My view is that there is really not very much on Wikipedia that students cannot access anywhere else online (while at home, etc) but the difference is that it is presented in a non-titillating, non-prurient manner. If all is done correctly, it is a factual (actually, verifiable) representation of the information that is out there. My personal opinion is that, rather than shield students from certain material, I think we're better served by teaching them what we value as people, as a community, as a family, as a society. In that way, again, if all goes well, our children will reject the thing we do not value and embrace the things that we do value. This leaves me off the hook as a judge because it's basically saying that, 'my children will embrace things that I teach them and reject pornography'... maybe another teacher/parent won't feel the same and that's the way it should be. My values can't be pushed on others.
- My thoughts, opinions, practices DO get pushed to the test. I have 3 children of my own and it was often difficult to give them access to the Internet and to computers at home as they were growing up knowing the things they could (and did) access. I was confident, though, that they would not be harmed by that exposure and, indeed, probably came to recognize it for what it was.
- As I said, I have taught in many different environments and I wouldn't allow any of my students to use Wikipedia as a sole source, any more than I would allow them to use Time magazine, Grolliers Encyclopedia, etc as sole sources for information. What Wikipedia does that the other sources do not is collect references on topics and present them. I want my students to understand how Wikipedia works and how the information is collected, and verified by reliable sources.
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia... it does not promote anything. On the contrary, the goal of Wikipedia is not to promote anything! :) It is a collection of information that is verified, organized, and presented for whatever purposes users choose - if that's education, great.. if that's research for papers, books, articles, terrific.. if it's just browsing and enjoyment.. excellent. :)

There is no 'official' promotion at Wikipedia but evidently public schools are of the mind that if you routinely cover something in the public domain you are promoting it. i.e.Wikipedia promotes history. While we can't shield our youth from the world, we should set examples and guide them so they don't just go along with whatever hits the fan, imo. Again, if Wikipedia expects to be recognized in academia as a reputable source of information it should subscribe to 'some' standards rather than virtually none at all, as children learn by example, and too many of us 'free thinking' adults aren't bothering to set it for them. Too preoccupied with entertaining themselves -- they fiddled while Rome burned. - Yes, Wikipedia has standards where it concerns reliable sources, MOS, no vandalism, no libel, threats, etc. My reference to standards was aimed at the sort of content that is allowed in what is supposed to be an encyclopedia. Unfortunately, until Wikipedia adopts a few sensible and practical reforms and realizes that a lot of parents and schools have legitimate reservations about Wikipedia's lack of standards for the sort of encyclopedic content that's allowed, and as much as I like Wikipedia's many great articles, it will by and large be kept out of public schools and will continue to be shunned by much of academia. Edit Reverts
Hello Wikipelli! Apologies if this is overkill, I replied on my talk page while pinging you before I noticed the bit about replying here. I'm afraid if the edit you reverted was inappropriate, I'm going to want to go and self revert several more. After looking at the MOS for novels, I saw that Translations are not included -- which seems appropriate because they appear to be no more than trivia. If the number of languages into which a novel has been translated is notable, it can be mentioned in the publication history. But a list of translated titles appears to be no more than a catalog. Before I made the removal, I checked for past discussions regarding translation sections and I found this: [1]. From my reading there was consensus that translations, if notable, do not merit their own section. So I thought I'd be Bold and start cleaning up some articles that looked rather silly with this trivial section. LGBT Adoption
my revision to LGBT Adoption was researched and included a reliable source. In addition, I was in the process of adding new sources and edits but got an email from you saying you removed it. Clearly, you did so solely as CENSORSHIP and not in keeping with the terms of Wiki. I'm a longtime Wiki editor/contributor and I've never had this happen.
I've spent the past two years researching a book that echos the current evidence of same sex adoption is risky, that the children are being abused and raped among other things. There's research that says that some children who grow up with a same sex couple are totally fine. Either way, it's NOT our decision to play editorial God and change things to bend for our own personal gain.
There significant information supplied on LGBT Adoption Wikipedia page that are errorenous, politically driven and factually incorrect. Wiki is not a political tool to advance's one personal views. It's supposed to be a very factal, neutral, honest, well researched and not vandalism, and at least as well-cited as what came before it. Thank You/A Note About Changes I made to Al Franken's page
Hi Wikipelli,
Thank's for being so vigilant in catching the blatantly false information I added to Sen. Franken's wiki page.
Just to explain why I made those changes: I work for a company that is considering posting information about public figures directly from their wiki's to our website, which is seen by a lot of people and could be considered a part of the news media. I made that change, as well as a change to the page for Sen. Luther Strange (which another editor has already caught and reverted) to prove to people in my company that while the change may seem like a good idea to help boost our SEO, that literally anyone could edit anyone else's page and add information that is incorrect or outright false.
I really do appreciate your jumping on my edit so quickly. You and the other editors here do great work and I mean that sincerely.

Why do I waste my time with Wikipedia, even the racism page supports racism and the view that racism is only done by the majority to the minority. - Once again, if you have sources that prove your point, I encourage you to include them. Otherwise, I'm afraid you are bringing your preconceptions to the project and that's never wise. I would also suggest that you 'voice' your concerns on the talk pages of the articles about which you have concerns. This is the appropriate place to talk about your opinions, the shortcomings of articles, and ways to improve them. Wikipedia does not have a stance on racism. By its nature, it couldn't. I'm not a vandal, its my brother
I just caught my brother on my computer apparently making changes to Wikipedia. I read the message you sent and I would prefer not to be considered a vandal. He says this is the only thing he has tried to change, but I'm not sure if I believe him. -Sorry p.s I have no idea what I am doing.
- Thanks for your message. It appears that your brother was editing for over an hour yesterday. I might suggest that you password protect your computer if that's an issue for you. As far as Wikipedia goes, there is no differentiation about who is using a computer. Someone from your IP address made edits that were not constructive. No matter who is making them, if it becomes necessary, that IP address can be blocked. I would urge you to create a wikipedia account with a password so no-one can use it except you. - I'll concede that the changes to the name were not vandalism and I will remove my warning. But, the changes made to the name were not accompanied, as they should have been, by citations/sources. Indeed, a cursory search on this person shows that her name was changed to remove 'Rampone'. Trump Derangement Syndrome
Why is a non-scientific faux syndrome like this allowed to exist in an "encyclopedia" All TDS is is a smear on people how don't like Donald Trump and this should not exist here and would not exist in a legitimate encyclopedia. I would like to know where I can take this complaint where it will get serious consideration. - As is the case for all Wikipedia articles, the existence of this one depends on Notability and verifiability which simply means that, if the 'syndrome' neologism has been reported in reliable sources, it can be said to be notable. I don't believe there's anything in the article that suggests that this is an accepted medical diagnosis, simply that it's a term which is being used to describe the reactions of those who speak out against the President. You should also be aware that the article WAS nominated for deletion. The discussion on that process can be read here. OK so basically this means that if I want to add a 'trumpanzee' page I can add it, as many people do talk about trumpanzees, in fact probably a lot more than people who spout off about TDS. - Well, yes, and no. If you can show that 'trumpanzee' is notable and support that with reliable sources (newspaper articles using the word, periodicals, etc), then you probably could make a page and it might not be deleted. (Note that the TDS page barely made it through a deletion discussion, though). You're also confusing your terms a little (just my opinion) when you say there is 'no such thing'. In the sense that there is no actual diagnosis or medically recognized 'syndrome', you're right. There isn't. But there are a number of reliable news outlets that HAVE used the term in their reporting, which makes it notable. Note the first line of the article: "Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a neologism used by supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump to describe a reaction to Trump by liberals and Never Trump neoconservatives, who they say respond to Trump's statements and political actions irrationally and with little regard to Trump's actual position or action taken. The term has been used by pro-Trump supporters to discredit criticism of Trump's actions." It doesn't say it's an actual syndrome. It simply says that it's a term that is used. Thank you for your response, but I feel the whole premise of that first statement is wrong, Neo-conservatives very rarely agree with liberals' criticisms but that does not make 'liberals' responses to trump's positions 'irrational' and although some anti-trumpers do spam political threads 'with little regard for trump's positions' many neo-cons also do the same thing but the major part of anti-trumpers do respond to the positions of trump and his actions. On the whole I am very impressed with how Wiki has grown over the years and has become the preeminent online encyclopedia but I am very surprised that this same respected encyclopedia would support such an obvious smear on the opposition to the political party in power. I would appreciate a little help in organizing some opposition to this smear. Incidentally many of us anti-trumpers are not 'liberals', that is another unfounded presumption that does not belong in an online encyclopedia, it is demonstrably false and is part of their smear campaign. - Again, be careful about what you're saying and how you're thinking about the article. :) The article does NOT say that anyone IS irrational. It simply says that, because trump supporters think that criticism of the president is irrational, they are saying that those who criticism are suffering from TDS. That phrase has been used enough that it now has an article in WP. (see also: Copperhead (politics) another term used by one political party to describe another)
- You can review the processes for having a page deleted at the link I gave you before (Deletion policy), but I would start at the article's Talk page to voice your opinions about the article.
