The IP whom you reverted on Gold dollar is also active on Coinage Act of 1873. The individual seems to know something about the subject but they're (in my opinion) a bit too bold in announcing their intent to rewrite the article, especially since they started out by making elementary mistakes like getting the effective date wrong. Could you help keep an eye on things?--Wehwalt (talk) 13:26, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New editors were more successful with this new tool.

The New topic tool helps editors create new ==Sections== on discussion pages. New editors are more successful with this new tool. You can read the report. Soon, the Editing team will offer this to all editors at most WMF-hosted wikis. You can join the discussion about this tool for the English Wikipedia is at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Enabling the New Topic Tool by default. You will be able to turn it off in the tool or at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.

The Editing team plans to change the appearance of talk pages. These are separate from the changes made by the mw:Desktop improvements project and will appear in both Vector 2010 and Vector 2022. The goal is to add some information and make discussions look visibly different from encyclopedia articles. You can see some ideas at Wikipedia talk:Talk pages project#Prototype Ready for Feedback.

Signpost article[edit]

Hi @ZLEA, I'm doing a Signpost article on userboxes, and selected your name as one of five users to be interviewed. I have some questions about your experience in userboxes:

  1. How did you first get into userboxes?
  2. How long have you been using/creating userboxes?
  3. Why do you like userboxes?
  4. What's your favorite userbox and why?

Thanks in advance for your input. Regards, Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 02:13, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Urban Versis 32 Thanks for choosing me. Here are my answers:
  1. I joined WikiProject Userboxes in February 2017, just over a month after joining Wikipedia, although I do not remember what first got me into userboxes.
  2. My first userboxes were service awards, which I added to my userpage to encourage myself to gain more editing experience. Within a few months created my first userboxes in February 2017. I have not created very many userboxes, but my early experience with userboxes is what sparked my passion for template editing.
  3. I believe userboxes remind us that there is a person behind every userpage. They aren't just some pretty templates, they allow users to express themselves on their userpages. I also believe they help us build trust with our fellow Wikipedians by encouraging transparency, as they are an easy way to identify one's own biases, conflicts of interest, and, more importantly, our strengths.
  4. My favorite userbox is one of my own creations (yes, I'm biased); User:ZLEA/Turboencabulator. The userbox is a play on the Turbo encabulator, a fictional machine which somehow found its way into a 1962 General Electric supplies catalogue. As an engineering student, I naturally found the turbo encabulator to be particularly amusing; too amusing to not be made into a userbox.

Let me know if you need anything else. - ZLEA T\C 02:44, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your time! Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 01:19, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Edits made on Jf-17[edit]

Hai @ZLEA: Can you please verify the latest edits made on Jf-17 Thunder page by a user named 'An Asphalt'? I'm now using wikipedia on my phone, I find it hard to do it. It appears that he's making unsourced changed on specification. I can't access the cited sources except archived links. Can you please verify those edits? Thank you Echo1Charlie (talk) 09:58, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Echo1Charlie Sorry I couldn't reply earlier. From what I can tell, the changes they are making are supported by the previously provided sources. The source appears to have been somewhat recently updated, so the archived sources are out of date and should be updated. I'll do that shortly. - ZLEA T\C 02:52, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am not sure why the ring cent and the large cent is included, but not the Flying Eagle cent; they all seem to be different denominations of the cent. The "small cent" is not a denomination, just a subsection title on Wikipedia. Altanner1991 (talk) 01:36, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ZLEA In numismatics, "denomination" tends to mean more than face value. Numismatists will sometimes consider certain historical coins of the same face value to be separate denominations, especially if the coin had undergone a major change and would be unrecognizable to the average person if found in circulation today. The large cent and small cent are widely treated as separate denominations by numismatists. This treatment is not exclusive to cents, and can be seen with the two-cent billon/two-cent piece, three-cent bronze/three-cent nickel/three-cent silver, half dime/nickel, and gold dollar/dollar coin. The silver center cent and ring cent do not fit in either the large cent or small cent categories, so they too are treated as separate denominations. I hope this clears up any confusion. - ZLEA T\C 01:58, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging Altanner1991, I accidentally pinged myself in the last reply. - ZLEA T\C 02:00, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is correct then the relevant information should be included in the article otherwise readers will have no indication as to why the footers have been included. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 03:53, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Although Fairchild is not directly mentioned in the article, Canadian Associated Aircraft (a joint project consisting of Fairchild and other companies) is. Perhaps a mention of Fairchild's role in the CAA would be a good addition, but the only source I have found so far is vague, only mentioning an "order for Hampden Aircraft component parts". As for the Vega model number, I am currently trying to gather information about the details of the design study, and I intend to add them soon. - ZLEA T\C 01:47, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the name of Chengdu Wing Loong-10[edit]

Wing Loong is name for export given by the manufacturer Chengdu while WZ-10 is a newly released formal designation by Chinese People's Liberation Army. Using Chinese military designation prioritizing over manufacturer export name is a convention on Wikipedia for Chinese military aircraft articles. For example Chengdu J-10, J-10 is the formal designation while FC-10 is the export name. Same as Xi'an JH-7 and its export name FBC-1, Chengdu J-7 and its export name F-7. Or the article can be redirected to "Chengdu WZ-10 / Wing Loong-10" as compromise. Infinty 0 (talk) 00:25, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Infinty 0 WP:AIR/NC states that "If the type has multiple names then either use the most common or none if this would cause confusion." Both "Chengdu WZ-10" and "Chengdu Wing Loong-10" are acceptable titles for the article, but we have to choose one or the other. Titles with multiple aircraft names are generally used for aircraft families, such as Gulfstream G650/G700/G800, not single types with differing export designations. - ZLEA T\C 00:30, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shahed Saegheh[edit]

There is just no source for what i changed, the drone has never been advertised as possessing stealth technology and doesn't possess it

Israeli propaganda used this when they shot down one using their F-35, making advertisement for it by telling "we shot down a stealth UAV" when it is not the case

It just doesn't require a source, this is how it was advertised, without mentioning any stealth capability, meanwhile a lot of people thinks it is stealth because it resembles to the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel which was advertised as possessing stealth, Saegeh wasn't advertised possessing it

The edit was to make clear to people looking into it that it is not a stealth UCAV, so no one could use this to make propaganda

If it was used during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and shot down by Ukrainian forces, i am 100% sure they would have claimed they shot down "a stealth UAV" and trashtalking Iran, when it is not at all a stealth UCAV, and not advertised as such 2A01:CB04:133:8000:6A1F:E744:AB67:3B72 (talk) 18:12, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid a absence of sources is not good enough. Unless there is a reliable source which specifically states that it has never been advertised as a "stealth UAV", we cannot make the statement in the article. What is known is that numerous western observers have labeled the aircraft as a "stealth UAV", and to my knowledge Iran has made no attempt to refute these claims. I suggest you read WP:VNT. - ZLEA T\C 18:27, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What is deranging is that there is not even a single Iranian source on the article beside western medias or persian language affiliated and "analysis" from Saudi/Israeli funded think tanks, more deranging is that it contains sources from The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, reading the first line of the wikipedia article of this think tank will make you understand what it is, you just can't make a neutral article using those organizations and think tanks for something about Iran, it is like putting a Russian think tank or analysis of an Ukrainian weapon and using it to make claims, or using an Indian outlet for claims concerning Pakistan
[100] There is an Iranian source with the pictures of the advertised drone, there is no mention of stealth, neither on Shahed 171
In almost every Iranian made weapons article, there is barely mentions of Iranian sources, but western analysis, this Iranian sources does not mention stealth, western sources thinking it is stealth isn't a valable source for making a claim that it possess stealth technology 2A01:CB04:133:8000:6A1F:E744:AB67:3B72 (talk) 18:40, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Again, the fact that Iranian sources don't mention stealth technology isn't enough. If there is an Iranian source which refutes the west's claims of stealth technology, then we can change the article. It's not a problem Wikipedia can fix.
On a side note, the article doesn't claim the aircraft is a stealth UAV in the first place. The only appearances of the word "stealth" are in the source titles. - ZLEA T\C 18:46, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
At least remove the Washington Institute sources 2A01:CB04:133:8000:6A1F:E744:AB67:3B72 (talk) 19:01, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template:B-17 family[edit]

Hi, I have a couple quick questions on Template:B-17 family

  • The groupings for Bombers and Transports have linefeeds in them, rather than spanning a single line–is that intentional or ? Just checking.
  • I was thinking to sub-divide the Notable aircraft entries into Extant and Non-extant (or similar wording)–does that seem OK, or any concern?

Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 23:27, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dmoore5556 The linefeeds in the "Bombers" and "Transports" were intentional. Both are split into the two different designation schemes used ("Bombers" is split into Air Force and Navy designations, "Transports" is split into "modified Bomber (B)" and "Cargo (C)" designations). As for "Notable aircraft", I think it would be a good idea to split the section. - ZLEA T\C 23:39, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification on formatting, and for sub-dividing that section in the Template. Dmoore5556 (talk) 23:52, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

44-6393 Starduster[edit]

Hi, the lead to List of surviving Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses notes that only six surviving planes saw combat. Five of those planes currently have Wikipedia articles; the one that doesn't is 44-6393 Starduster. I was thinking to create an article about that plane, as I believe its provenance makes it notable. I wanted to get your input as to if doing so seems worthwhile? Dmoore5556 (talk) 03:34, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dmoore5556 If you can find enough reliable sources, by all means go for it. I'm not familiar with that aircraft's history, so I doubt I would be able to help much. - ZLEA T\C 03:38, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll work on it as time permits. Multiple sources indicate it was the command aircraft of Lt Gen Ira C. Eaker, commander of the Eighth Air Force, which adds to its notability. Dmoore5556 (talk) 03:54, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

SH-3 Sea King/S-61 family[edit]

Hi Z, I'm thinking about creating a navbox for the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King/S-61 family, but wanted to make sure you don't already have one sandboxed somewhere first. If not, I could work one up in a day or so. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 05:33, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BilCat I had considered making one, but I never got around to doing so. You can go ahead and do it. - ZLEA T\C 05:35, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. BilCat (talk) 06:53, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've got it started at Draft:Template:Sikorsky S-61 family, and will move it to Template:Sikorsky S-61 family when its done, if you want to go ahed and watch the page. I added a hidden field for "Accidents" where you have it in the S-70 box, but I'm not planning on adding those right now.
I also added a "Names" field, as I believe those are useful. I wasn't sure if you omitted that on purpose in some of your other boxes, but some readers only know aircraft by their names, or they have no designations, especially British aircraft, such as the Commando variant of the Westland Sea King. BilCat (talk) 00:06, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
 Done BilCat (talk) 01:03, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'm not against a "Names" section, but I sometimes forget to put one in. - ZLEA T\C 03:01, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
BilCat Is the Sikorsky HH-52 Seaguard a member of the S-61 family? There are links in the "See also" section indicating that the aircraft are related, but there is no mention in the article of commonality between the two types other than similar layout and engine (which doesn't necessarily imply relation). - ZLEA T\C 03:09, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, it seemed as close a connection as with the S-55, so I went with it. BilCat (talk) 03:13, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jackson883941 That's not me. A CheckUser can confirm. - ZLEA T\C 01:45, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very odd. BilCat (talk) 04:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As Heironymous Rowe seems to have implied, I wouldn't be surprised if the IP was Jackson883941. There are a few minor differences in comment style, such as the fact that the IP usually capitolized the first letter in a sentence while Jackson883941 did not. However, it's probably not a coincidence that the IP harassed Jackson883941 in addition to three admins. The IP's choice of admins to harass puzzles me as well. Heironymous Rowe was involved in this discussion started by Jackson883941, and 331dot participated in several other discussions on the same page and also had blocked the IP in December. As for Sdrqaz, I do not see any connection. - ZLEA T\C 05:15, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm surprised Jackson hasn't been indeffed before. They've been extremely uncivil in the past, not just recently in our interactions with him. As to the IP, hopefully someone will run a checkuser on them. BilCat (talk) 05:22, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As the comments on Sdrqaz's page, I guess we'll see what happens in 18 days. Someone's block will probably end, and be reinstated shortly thereafter! BilCat (talk) 05:30, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just discovered this IP which made very similar edits to User talk:69.127.80.35 as 90.254.56.9. I've added all three IPs to my watchlist, as something tells me it isn't over. - ZLEA T\C 06:01, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Veddy intwesting! See also this edit and following. BilCat (talk) 07:59, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

T-54[edit]

Thanks for finding and adding that. I wonder what they'll name it. Goshawk? Maybe Stratoliner? BilCat (talk) 06:13, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The T-44 was named "Pegasus", so perhaps something mythological and/or Greek. - ZLEA T\C 16:47, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the T-44 is named "Pegasus", as mentioned in the Navy press release, but that didn't stop the Air Force from "stealing" the name for the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus. The convention up until then was to only have one name at a time for aircraft in service. My suggestion was a snide/sarcastic way of saying that the T-54 should "steal" a name from an in-service Boeing product. ("Stratoliner" would be an absolutely ridiculous name for multi-engine trainer!) Anyway, since aircraft names are approved by the Air Force Department, I doubt something like that would happen. The Navy might ought to request "Pegasus II", since both the T-44 and T-54 are King Airs, but I still doubt the AF would approve it either. So we'll see. They might go for a bird name, as with the TH-73 Thrasher. We'll find out eventually. BilCat (talk) 19:58, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Zeppelin aircraft[edit]

Just give me half a good reason why two Messerschmitt aircraft, of of which thankfully never saw the light of day, be included in this template? Loads of aircraft have been built either in part or whole by companies which were not the design originator: these are NOT included in the company template. For instance the Short Brothers template does not include the Bristol Bombay, even though the company built all examples of the type. I could go on.....and on and on. I've reverted you revert and will continue to do so if needs be.TheLongTone (talk) 15:09, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TheLongTone Why are you so confrontational? They are included because the RLM assigned them distinct "Zeppelin-Messerschmitt" designations. I'm not going to get into an edit war over a few links, but I will be bringing the matter up on the talk page. - ZLEA T\C 17:04, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It seems I am affected by an IP block. I'm on my personal computer, but I'm using school Wi-Fi, which I suspect to be the culprit. - ZLEA T\C 14:05, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Consolidated OA-6 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

An airplane design that was never built, barely a one line mention in ref, does not appear to pass WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 09:00, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TheWikiWizard - May 2023[edit]

Hey, ZLEA! Here is the May 2023 edition for the TheWikiWizard!

Humor[edit]

  • Now is the time to start writing those Christmas cards and do the Christmas shopping! Come December, you can sit back and edit Wikipedia! ;)
  • When it snows in December/Winter, stock up the snow in your freezer, so when it gets hot you can do a snowball fight in the summer!

Wiki(P/M)edia News[edit]

  • A conversation with trustees event took place on the 18th of May. You can read more details on the event here!
  • On the English Wikipedia some RFAs which took place the past few months. You can see the full details at the RFA main page.
  • There is a event (Conference) that is taking place in city of Belgrade. More details on the event can be found by clicking on the link!

Editor's Notes[edit]

  • I apologies for the delay in the issues, however I can guarantee you that I am always thinking of TWW and haven't forgotten about it :) School's so busy!

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
