Tree of User Subpages[edit]

Is there a tool that I can use to display a tree of subpages in user space, that is, subpages of User:Robert McClenon. I think that I have multiple useless redirects into mainspace, the inevitable byproduct of moving pages from userspace into mainspace, and would like to request that they be speedied. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:46, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert McClenon: I'm not sure about a tool that shows trees, but Special:PrefixIndex/User:Robert_McClenon/ will show you all your subpages, including redirects (which will be marked). By the looks of it, you don't have any redirects into the mainspace ;) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:16, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. No. None of them were redirects into mainspace, but two of them needed deletion anyway, and have been tagged. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:23, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to merge a page but having trouble with the re-directs[edit]

I merged Biefeld-Brown effect into Electrogravitics, but there seems to be some problem with the re-directs on Biefeld-Brown effect page causes links to stop there, url: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biefeld-Brown_effect#Electrogravity It seems there are two re-directs ... but I'm not sure what exactly is going on, can I just replace the parent redirect, found here i think: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Biefeld-Brown_effect&redirect=no or will that break other links going to the child bbe page? Puddytang (talk) 04:30, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I got it working so I may not need help after all. Puddytang (talk) 04:49, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Puddytang: I think your problem, from what you described, is outlined at WP:2R. - Purplewowies (talk) 16:50, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing errors on Intercity bus service[edit]

Reference help requested. Received citation problem, don't know how to fix. Thanks, Swadian H (talk) 05:05, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Swadian H - I fixed the problem in this edit. Just needed the "http://" in front of the URL. The template doesn't like bare links. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:13, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Search includes non-visible text[edit]

I have a search on my userpage that I use to find test edits, Insert non-formatted text here, that has for some time been hitting two UK Christmas music articles. I can't find that text on either of the articles or any of their associated templates. Does anyone have any idea why search is finding that string? hbent (talk) 10:57, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Hbent: I assume you have "New search" ticked on the "Beta" preference page? Without that ticked, the search returns no results. Using the new search, both those search results lead to redirect pages that used to contain that text, so this may be related to the bug described at this archived technical thread. As suggested there, I have hit both redirect pages with a null edit, which might fix it. If they are still showing up in 24 hours, I suggest you ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). -- John of Reading (talk) 11:31, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the help. You are correct that I am using the new search, I suppose I should have mentioned that. hbent (talk) 17:54, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Logo Image Upload[edit]

What category does a logo come under in the upload criteria for files? Rachend (talk) 11:05, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rachend,
There are two categories that may apply here:
  • Regular Logo: Under the header "Non-Free Fair Use - Read WP:NONFREE before using any of the following tags:" you will see the option "Logo", which will add the {{Non-free logo}} template as the license for the file. Note that this will require the addition of a fair use rationale for each page the logo is used on as well. There is also an easy-to-use template for Fair use Rationales for Logo's - template {{Non-free use rationale logo}}.
  • Simple Logo's: Under the header "Not covered by copyright" the option "Logos with only simple typefaces, individual words or geometric shapes" exists. This will add the {{PD-logo}} template to the page, which does not require a fair use rationale. Note that this license only applies to very simply typographic logo's.
When in doubt select the "Regular Logo" - its better to have to strict licensing on a logo than having the licensing set to lenient. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 12:21, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

External Refernce[edit]

Iyengar Yoga (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi ... Must say kudos to your work as a team for providing a great site, rich of information. Thanks

I saw the "edit" option and provided an external link on the page talking about "Iyengar Yoga". i provided a very relevant link to a site that completely talked about Iyengar and Iyengar Yoga. Being an Indian, I fully associated with the content. The external link i placed was this: http://99reallifestories.com/iyengar-yoga-inspiring-innovation/

Now i find that the link has been deleted. Just wanted to be sure about the reasons, so that in future, I dont provide references which are not accepted by the site. I greatly respect this site. And hence, want to abide by the terms and conditions. Thanking you in anticipation of the reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AsmitaGharni (talkcontribs) 11:42, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi wikipedia........ am still waiting for the response ...i see others getting responded, but not my query. hence this. Can u pls reply to me too. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AsmitaGharni (talkcontribs) 15:10, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You first inserted the link as a reference. This was reverted with the edit summary "Rv, not a good source for this". That is, the page cannot be considered reliable. You then inserted the same link as an external link. No reason was given for the reversion, but in my opinion it falls under our links normally to be avoided guideline. SpinningSpark 15:29, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and appreciate the revert. I inserted the same link as an external link, since the link spoke about Iyengar Yoga in detail. There was "no reason given" - I would have loved to, but there wasnt a "field" where I could input the reason. Anyway, thanks for the revert and I m hopeful that ur decision is right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.97.200.141 (talk) 06:36, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I meant the person who reverted you did not give a reason, not you (although you didn't), but to respond to your claim that there is no field for this, yes there is. It is the "edit summary" box. The thing about external links is that we try and limit them to a very select few. We don't particularly want to direct readers to another site. We would much prefer that information is added directly to our articles. We only use external links when there is encyclopaedic information on the site that is unsuitable for inclusion here. Remove advertising box[edit]

I've edited the page for HealthDay but the advertisement box has not changed. Can you provide some details/insight as to how I could best make edits so that the page is up-to-date but w/o the advertising box?

This is the page I'm writing about for support > Healthday

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ReynaLarios (talkcontribs) 16:04, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Frankly, my first reaction is that it should be sent to Articles for Deletion as there is no evidence of notability in the article whatsoever. Also, if you are associated with the subject then you have a conflict of interest and should not be directly editing the article at all. My second reaction is that the article is littered with external links to the subject's websites. There should only be one—in the external links section. editing stub[edit]

I am not certain how to correct stub for Puppeteers for Helen Haiman Joseph. Would someone please edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bronx7 (talkcontribs) 18:44, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

She does not have an article. Do you mean her entry at Puppeteers#List of notable professional puppeteers? What exactly are you having difficulty with? SpinningSpark 19:38, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of images from WW2 Nazis[edit]

There are many articles from WW2 Nazis without a profile image, though in most cases images are available on google. I there a fair use policy for such images, or does this need to be looked at on a case to case basis? And how would this work, since in most cases there is a page with an image, but no usage info (often blogs). Example: Gerhard Kittel (see google image search). I would assume it would be ok to upload images via fair use, if not other stated. prokaryotes (talk) 23:33, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The non-free content criteria should answer your question. Unlike pictures of most living people, you can probably meet the "No free equivalent" criterion. --ColinFine (talk) 08:52, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ColinFine, i just wante dto make sure there isn't any special treatment for such images.prokaryotes (talk) 13:56, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I want to get consensus...[edit]

I was reading Category:Time Lords when I noticed something wrong. I left a message on the talk page, when one of those notices told me that no-one would read it there. So, is this where I come? (Sorry, I'm new to this part of Wikipedia.) --UserJDalek 23:56, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
