Request for comment / Melaleuca / Hoover's

A discussion is going on at Frank L. VanderSloot regarding the use of Hoover's Company In-Depth Records as a way to describe the Melaleuca organization. GeorgeLouis (talk) 15:29, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

That's a misleading and one-side presentation of the issue at hand. The question is not whether Hoover's is a reliable source on it surface. The underlying issue is that George has been trying (through numerous attempts at forum shopping)[1][2][3][4][5] unsuccessfully for quite some time to expunge the "multi-level marketing (MLM)" company designation from the Melaleuca article. However, the issue was settled long ago -- the company is an MLM, and there are ample (>20) sources to back it up. George is already aware of these sources from his previous unsuccessful attempts to whitewash the article of the term "MLM". It seems that they need to be presented once again. Here are a plethora of sources across the spectrum that all refer to Melaleuca as an MLM. It's staggering that the sham debate about this went on as long as it did.

Federal Trade Commission

  • “Numerous letters came from individuals having negative experiences with various MLMs like Quixtar, 4Life, Mary Kay, Arbonne, Liberty League International, Financial Freedom Society, Herbalife, Xango, Melaleuca, EcoQuest, Pre-Paid Legal, PartyLite, Shaklee, Vartec/Excel, and Vemma. 73 Fed. Reg. at 16,113 n.37.”[6][7]

Journalists/News Articles

  • DailyFinance (reporter Eamon Murphy): “For Melaleuca is essentially a pyramid scheme -- or, more politely, a "multilevel marketing firm," like Amway or Herbalife (HLF) -- in which so-called independent marketing executives make money by peddling the company's dietary supplements and cleaning products, as well as recruiting more salespeople (the newer recruits being on the lower levels of the pyramid).”[8]
  • Harper’s Magazine (correspondent Jeff Ernsthausen): “This spring, Stephanie Mencimer of Mother Jones detailed Mitt Romney’s multilevel-marketing connections, which included more than $3 million in contributions to a Romney super PAC by executives at Nu Skin Enterprises and Melaleuca.”[9]
  • Mother Jones (Washington Bureau correspondent Stephanie Mencimer): “And Romney's current finance chair, Frank VanderSloot, is the CEO of Idaho-based Melaleuca, a multilevel-marketing company that sells green cleaning products and nutritional supplements.”[10]
“VanderSloot's company also has a controversial background. Like Amway, Herbalife, and other so-called multilevel marketing firms, its business model relies on recruiting distributors, who in turn must recruit more distributors, to sell its products.”[11]
  • Rolling Stone (political reporter Tim Dickinson): “The Pyramid Schemer: Frank VanderSloot – Position: CEO of Melaleuca Inc., a "multilevel marketing" firm based in Idaho that sells off-brand cleaning products and nutritional supplements.”[12]
  • Seattle Weekly (award winning journalist Laura Onstot): “Multilevel marketing—the pyramid-like (but only like!) business model made famous by Amway and Mary Kay—has, inevitably, gone green. Melaleuca, a household-products company based in Idaho (named for the plant from which tea tree oil is derived) is actively recruiting in the Puget Sound area. Brenda Malpedo of Tacoma, a Melaleuca ‘marketing executive,’ placed the Craigslist ad in order to recruit other salespeople to join.”[13]
  • Forbe's Magazine: “Melaleuca is a pyramid selling organization, built along the lines of Herbalife and Amway. Vendors get commissions on the products they sell and also on products sold by vendors they recruit..” (NB: “pyramid selling” is a synonym for multi-level marketing)[14]
  • Los Angeles Business Journal (staff reporter Alexa Hyland): “They decided to leave the company and join a competing multilevel marketing company, Melaleuca”[15]
  • Susan Brown (Gainesville Sun correspondent): “Melaleuca Inc. sells vitamins, personal hygiene products, household cleaners and other consumables through multilevel marketing. President Frank VanderSloot said Melaleuca pays a 7 percent commission to seven levels of distributors.[16]
  • Susan Brown (in Lakeland Ledger: via NYT Regional Newspapers wire)“…Frank Vandersloot, president of Idaho Falls, Idaho-based Melaleuca Inc, a multilevel distributor of vitamins, personal hygiene products, household cleaners, and other goods.”[17]
  • Dean Miller (Nieman Reports): "...VanderSloot. He owns an international multilevel marketing/health products company, Melaleuca, Inc."[18]

MLM Experts

  • Robert L. FitzPatrick: “Pyramid Scheme Alert compiled an analysis of the actual average incomes of a sample of 10,000 sales representatives for Nuskin, Nikken, Melaleuca, Reliv, Arbonne, Free Life International and Cyberwize.com. These seven multi-level marketing companies, six of which are large, well-known members of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) and the seventh a newer and fast-growing MLM, are regarded in the multi-level marketing business as representative examples of that industry. They are representative in product type, pay plan, business structure, and marketing claims of the majority of multi-level marketing companies. The companies were selected based on the data available but also on the representative nature of these companies.”[19] (see also [20]
  • Jon M Taylor: Includes Melaleuca on list of MLM companies.[21][22]
  • Stephen Barrett: Includes Melaleuca on list of MLM companies[23]

Organizations

  • Human Rights Campaign: “Subsidiaries of VanderSloot's multi-level marketing company Melaleuca, of which he is CEO, have poured a combined $1 million into Restore Our Future, the main super PAC associated with Romney.”[24]

Consumer Organizations

  • BBB: (lists Melaleuca as multilevel marketing company)[25]

Former Melaleuca Executives

  • SEC Filing: “From 1991 to 1998, he [Timothy Transtrum] worked for Melaleuca Inc., a network marketing company, during which time he became Director of International Operations"(NB: "network marketing" is a synonym for MLM -- see multi-level marketing).[26]
  • Spencer Reese (former in-house counsel for Melaleuca): “Spencer Reese is a partner in the law firm of Grimes & Reese. He is a graduate of the Washington University School of Law and is a member of the Idaho, Missouri and Colorado bars. He was formerly in-house counsel for Melaleuca, Inc., a multilevel marketing company with sales in excess of $260 million.”[27]

Melaleuca’s Statements in Court Affidavits

  • “Melaleuca argues that OrGano seeks this information solely to support its unclean hands defense by attempting to establish that Melalueca engaged in the same “bad acts” against other competing multi-level marketing companies.”[28]
  • “Accordingly, Melalueca’s response period shall be reduced, and its response must include those documents which describe Melaleuca’s recruiting of new marketing executives from competing multi-level marketing companies within the last six (6) years.”[29]
  • “When Marketing Executives join Melaleuca, they sign what is called an Independent Marketing Executive Agreement with Melaleuca. The Bartholomews were Marketing Executives at Melaleuca until recently, when they left Melaleuca and joined another multi-level marketing company called Independent Energy Alliance (“IEA”).”[30]

Other Sources in Court Cases

  • “Melaleuca is a consumer direct-marketing company, and commonly known and referred to as a multi-level marketing company. It manufactures skin care and other health products and markets these products through a complex network of independent contractors referred to as Independent Marketing Executives (“IME”). Each IME has the potential to create a multi-level customer base over which it has oversight. Each IME also receives a regular commission payment reflecting a certain percentage of the income derived from the sales made by other IME’s in his or her downline.”[31]

Rhode Island Red (talk) 17:00, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Congrats. Now to the real issue -- whether an NAICS code is "real" and usable in an article on a company where it is cited in undeniable reliable sources. Is the view Ah -- so the company itself determines what number to report? Fascinating proper to discredit mention of an NAICS code for a company as one editor insists? Or that Hoover's decision to label a company with particular codes is Hoover's own decision is correct? It would be unfair for me to point out that the lengthy post above is duplicative of many such, and that DRN did not concur with the poster therof. Cheers. Collect (talk) 21:47, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Business template

The Business Template needs work. As you can see at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Droga5&action=edit&section=0, the raw template says "Locations," but the published template comes out as "Number of locations," which is not the same thing at all. Example at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Droga5. Can somebody fix it? GeorgeLouis (talk) 18:33, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

{{Infobox company}} is protected, so only an admin can edit it (because the template is used in very many articles; a vandal could make one obscure change in template-space which damages very many articles).
Simply changing the name of the parameter (from "locations" to something else) is not a solution; there are lots of other pages already using the template with the existing parameter name. Adding an extra parameter or an alias is doable, I suppose. The meaning of the "locations" field is explained way down in the template doc but it would be neater to explain this in a comment in the Usage section - which lots of editors copy & paste from, when adding the template to another article... bobrayner (talk) 22:18, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
Have you found any other problems with the template? bobrayner (talk) 22:18, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I don't like infoboxes, so I don't use them much. But, no, I found only this one problem which jarred me. GeorgeLouis (talk) 22:34, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I've updated the template documentation. Does that help? bobrayner (talk) 11:00, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Planning to update The Boston Consulting Group page - looking for editors to partner with

Hello WikiProject Business community,

I noticed the Boston Consulting Group entry is rated as C-Class on the project's quality scale.

I would like to invest some time over the next few days to improve that entry, and the Bruce_Henderson and Growth-share_matrix which go with it naturally.

I'd appreciate the partnership of any willing editor to ensure that any updates conform to Wikipedia's high standards!

Filippo Scognamiglio (talk) 15:09, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Updated Bruce_Henderson; Can anyone review and see if if can be classified as more than a stub now?

Filippo Scognamiglio (talk) 22:49, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Request for article rating review

KMGi Group is currently rated as Stub class, the rating it has held since before I expanded the article. Request an independent assessment to see if it meets the criteria for Start or "C" class. Thank you. Cla68 (talk) 12:29, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I would say that looks like a C class article except that some of the refs don't link to full text or, in the case of the last ref, appear to be just plain wrong. So the refs need some work. --Pine 20:54, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Change infoboxes to say "Majority owner(s)" instead of "Owner(s)"

Clarify cuz some people try to list over 100 minority owners on some articles. 71.255.86.27 (talk) 12:09, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

It seems strange that these are separate articles; there's certainly a lot of duplicate content. I was thinking about BOLDly redirecting the former to the latter. Thoughts? --BDD (talk) 00:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

New draft needing review

Hi, I've written a new draft for the Vocus article, which falls under this WikiProject and am looking for editors to review it. It would be great to have some impartial editors from this project check that the draft is non-promotional, neutral and otherwise meets Wikipedia's guidelines, as I wrote the draft on behalf of the company. I'd appreciate any help from editors here, both reviewing the draft and moving it live once it is ready. A note about my disclosure: since I have a COI, I will not move this draft live myself.

The article right now is not very well written and has a few specific issues:

  • Two sections are timeline-like lists of events
  • Most information in the article has no citation to support it
  • Details throughout are out of date
  • The Products and services section sounds very promotional and the only citation is a link directly to the Vocus website

With the draft I've prepared, I've aimed to address the above issues and generally provide a better overview of Vocus and its products and services. The draft is in my userspace here: User:16912_Rhiannon/Vocus

I welcome any feedback and ask that editors feel free to edit the draft, and / or to ask for changes or general questions here or on the draft's Talk page. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 23:36, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Question about Socially responsible outsourcing page

The page on socially responsible outsourcing has been flagged for revisions for awhile; I'm wondering if the term should be changed to "Impact Sourcing" given that most of the official studies on the practice use that term (see http://www.rockefellerfoundation.org/news/news/how-impact-sourcing-creating). Given the small size of that market I think it would be most appropriate to merge the article into the larger one about outsourcing as a sub-manifestation. Thoughts? Proposed move of SMART criteria to SMART objectives

Members of this wikiproject may be interested in the discussion at Talk:SMART criteria#Requested move. We could definitely use some additional input. Yaris678 (talk) 21:47, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

The discussion is currently revolving around whether to go with SMART objectives, which is more formal and business oriented or SMART goals which is the more commonly used term, at least as far as Google Books is concerned. Hi, I work for Good Technology. The article has had flags indicating problems for a couple years. It also had some small inaccuracies, and presented a pretty incomplete overview of the company's history. While I understand that I have a conflict of interest, I want to help improve the article according to Wikipedia's standards. I have recently made some edits and additions, making every effort to express a neutral point of view; I also added about 20 independent citations. I hope a more experienced Wikipedian can take a look at my edits and provide any needed feedback. (previous version, prior to my edits)

Also, in the future I think it might make sense to merge the Visto article into this one, as the companies are now one and the same.-Karenarlenereynolds (talk) 00:18, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Mannatech information - some facts

An article had been written on Wikipedia a while ago that was brought to my attention recently regarding my previous Facebook post about Mannatech and the Ambrotose product. When I first read this Wikepedia article two years ago I had just been introduced to this “Ambrotose” and I was a huge skeptic. My suspicions arose, and armed with this article I went to my first Mannatech presentation to take these people on.

However, it did not take long for me to notice that of the many people already using the product all had some amazing stories to share. Straight from the horses mouth as they say. And they all appeared healthy. Can they all be wrong? I don’t think so. So my family and I opted to try the product and I certainly would not be writing this if it did not work. Yes, added to this was a lifestyle change, exercise, healthy eating etc. Habits had to change, and with this I discovered that the definition of insanity is doing the same things day after day, but expecting to get a different result. Through this I also discovered that nature does things properly in its own time, so whether we like it or not, it cannot be rushed or fast forwarded. Fact. This therefore is like our bodies. So Ambrotose, which is a plant based food (nature), will not fix any disease that oneself or the doctor has named and/or labeled and put into a box. I believe from experience that it will however, supply your body with the communication it needs in its cells in order for your body to heal itself. Remember again your body is nature, not a man made machine that is synthetically made that requires synthetic things. By fueling your body with plant based foods like Ambrotose, you will be giving your body the tools it needs to communicate within itself to help repair problems, maintain the body’s functions and not just treat the symptom. The symptom is just the warning light that something is wrong. I believe that the advertising by drug companies will only aim at our fears by telling us what we want to hear and the result of this aimed at making our already fast complicated life’s faster for now and in the short term hassle free. Or is it?. Pop this synthetically made tablet and you can run faster, pop this tablet so you can feel better. If this is the case then why are there more and more sickly people around? Most importantly who do you think is benefitting from this. Read between the lines. Everyday I hear of someone with another disease of some sort. Are we getting brain washed or what? Don’t get me wrong, I do have the greatest respect for the medical profession and the technology surrounding it. One can have a heart transplant or knee replacement etc. From that aspect I believe drugs certainly do have a place and are most important in the correct situation. Imagine how much more effective medication would be in ones body if you were already taking Ambrotose. Modern medicine would I think be more effective when and if it becomes necessary. So less medication and more efficient results I would imagine. But in the long run prevention is better than cure. And yes I have been on both sides of the fence and armed now with more knowledge can decide for myself as I have more control over by body. In order for me to understand the truth and real facts in this scenario, I had to get out of my comfort zone and be teachable. A sharp business person will tell you to collect all the facts and information about something first with an open mind, then only can an informed decision can be made. This is what I chose to do as I believe there are certainly many fly by night companies out there which have unfortunately given the network industry a poor name.

The simple facts are that this company has successfully created many healthy and wealthy individuals based upon a winning business system. Part time. No one asking you for all your money with nothing in return. At your own leisure. Just do the business side or choose to just try the products. Choose. Anything wrong with that? Millions of orphaned children have been fed from this venture. Anything wrong with that? Google mannarelief and see for yourself in our own local areas. This means that for those of us that lie awake at night stressing about health issues or financial issues, we now have a solution for both problems. Or one can choose to put their heads back in the sand if one is above that.

As an individual I myself could also post information, good or bad on Wikipedia If I wanted to I could Google any large company or famous person and I’m sure dig up any degrading info if I so wish. But instead of pointing fingers I instead chose to find out the real facts for myself by getting on the Mannatech bus, take the journey and learn, after all I can get off any time I wish. It’s a no brainer for anyone really interested in a better life. So is your glass half full or half empty? Anyone willing to get out of their comfort zone and confident enough to have the long term vision to see an opportunity, please let me know as there are many people world wide who you could connect with in this regard. But be aware – you will meet many positive like minded people all working to the same common goal of empowering themselves and other people in turn. Please note that this is not intended to point fingers at anyone personally, but has given me the opportunity to hopefully shed some light about Mannatech to those who have taken the time to read this to the end.

Real Products. Real Passion. Real Possibilities.

Template:Infobox_occupation and Wikidata

Hi, I'm a French contributor, and I'm working with a few others, both on frwiki and wikidata to mass-improve the articles for professions and occupations. We're adding standardized job codes (SOC codes for the US, but we're also adding international ones, and national ones for other countries), an image representing the job, and various other standardized info that can be imported into Wikidata, reused, and used to link Wikipedia to other canonical sources. Could a contributor with a bot try to do the same for English infoboxes, adding a SOC code parameter, a NOC code parameter (for Canada), and trying to fill them using the official nomenclatures ? --Teolemon Template_talk:Infobox_occupation Template:Infobox_occupation https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Occupations_and_professions_task_force — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:E35:2EA8:950:5BF:1AF3:3374:F3D0 (talk) 13:48, 9 November 2013 (UTC)

Updated draft for Gary Loveman article

Hi, I'm looking for editors to help review a new draft I've prepared for the Gary Loveman article. Gary Loveman is the CEO of Caesars Entertainment Corporation and I'm hoping to find editors here who are knowledgeable about biographies of business people. I would like to disclose that I have written this draft on behalf of Gary Loveman and, because of my conflict of interest with this topic, do not intend to make any edits to the article myself.

Currently the article is in ok shape, however it is missing more recent information about Gary Loveman and could be expanded throughout based on information I've found in reliable sources. If you're able to help with this, my draft is linked from the request at Talk:Gary Loveman, which also explains the changes I'm hoping to make. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:08, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

This is  Done, but I'm also hoping to add a photo to the article soon. I might come back here to ask for help when I've completed the photo permissions process. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:01, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

Improving the Accountancy article

Hello, Businesspeople! I've been doing quite a bit of work on the Accountancy article, restructuring the lede and shifting the previously-massive History section to its own page with significant updates. I think the updated page is now ready for some significant improvements by the community, so I'd like to invite you guys to metaphorically stride over to the page boldly and improve the article.

I've listed some initial issues for discussion here at the article's talk page, so do head over there if you'd like to help.

- Well-restedTalk 10:53, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Heads up: there's an ongoing discussion over at the Accountancy talk page regarding the article title, and in particular regarding which term is more commonly used. We'd like to establish broad consensus before implementing any changes, so do head over if you'd like to contribute. -Well-restedTalk 05:10, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello again businesspeople. This stale draft has an interesting topic, but needs someone with knowledge in this area to decide of it's a notable topic, or should be allowed to fade away. —Anne Delong (talk) 05:19, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Help with an editor?

I declined a speedy on Chairman's Choice, but the article still needs some help finding sources and fleshing it out. The editor (User:Heyhoe30) is new, as this was their first article and first edits, so it would be incredibly nice if one of you could take them under their wing and help them out mentor-wise. The business section of Wikipedia isn't really my forte, so to speak, so any help any of you could give Heyhoe30 would be wonderful. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:04, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Need help from experienced business-article editors

A group of about 2 dozen editors is collaborating on business-related articles, but many of the articles are about companies that are not notable, and many of those that are have serious issues with referencing, promotional content, etc. Some have been deleted through A7 and a few others are at PROD or AFD.

My concern is that in an effort to clean these articles up, we may scare away editors who are truly interested in improving Wikipedia but just don't realize they are "doing it wrong."

I'm calling on editors, including I hope at least one or two former or current administrators, to join me and others at User:Davidwr/Tsinghua/(talk) in helping these editors improve their editing and not get scared off in frustration as their hard work on non-notable companies is deleted. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:49, 27 December 2013 (UTC)

There may be some collaboration going on, but it seems clear to me that there are also users with multiple accounts in that group. I agree that their contributions appear to be good faith efforts that need guidance, although they also exhibit patterns consistent with paid editing.
We should not discount the possibility that a PR company has set up the appearance of a collaborative group for the benefit of their clients. Especially telling is that none of these accounts are communicating on talk pages, which seems quite odd if this is a collaboration. I would be interested to know whether a checkuser can confirm that these accounts are actually editing from Tsinghua University. ~Amatulić (talk) 14:54, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
If, hypothetically, I were in such a project, particularly if I knew the people off-Wiki already, I would probably communicate with them in person, by text, by email, or in some other off-wiki manner just as practical matter. Your points about a PR company either creating "fake students" or hiring real students to knowingly edit against Wikipedia's mission, or even duping real students into doing these edits naively are all very real possibilities. Hypothetically, a professor or supervising researcher may have received a "research grant" so he could get his innocent/naive students to do this type of editing. It's also plausible (but unlikely, given ethics rules) that a research supervisor may actually be studying how Wikipedia reacts to exactly this situation (if it turns out to be the case, then WMF's legal team may wish to send a cease-and-desist letter to the researcher's employer, but let's not get ahead of ourselves). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:55, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Update: A parallel discussion is happening at Wikipedia:Education noticeboard/Incidents/Archive 2#Group of New/Newish Editors Creating/Editing pages about companies. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 20:13, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Update January 2014: These articles and editors are part of a university course. User:Uttsinghuajoint2014/Course Page was recently created. If you wish to offer assistance to these students, the best way to make "first contact" is probably through either the course instructors or, if you prefer, through the usual method of using the article's or user's talk page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:21, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Help needed with Dark store article

Hi, I wondered if anyone could help with the expansion of the above article. The subject basically concerns the concept of distribution centres which cater exclusively for online shoppers, currently an expanding sector in the UK. I started it a couple of days ago after watching a news item on the subject, but feel that to do it real justice, it needs someone with a good working knowledge of business and commerce who can flesh out the important details. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Paul MacDermott (talk) 19:17, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Nice article!
The sources seem to emphasise "dark stores" as fulfilling online orders for businesses which were traditionally bricks-and-mortar retailers. However, these dark stores are very similar to earlier stores built for online-only businesses such as Amazon. (And at least one of those supermarket chains has dabbled with having a model store which is similarly bereft of customers but it's used for testing rather than fulfilment). I think the topic might have grey areas round the edges rather than a neatly-defined scope. What's the best way to deal with that?
Also: Does this happen in other countries - is it possible to internationalise a little? bobrayner (talk) 19:43, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I must confess I thought of the Amazon model while I was working on this, but had never heard the term applied to them. In fact, I first came across the phrase this last weekend when watching a BBC News item about the concept. I'm guessing the term came about as a way of differentiating from stores that are open to the public, but apparently the supermarkets prefer not to describe the operations as dark stores. In terms of other countries, the model is used in France according to the piece from the Today programme, but it's surely present in other countries like the US. Thanks Anne Delong. I don't know where to post my comments unless the OP submits it and I review it. So I'll write here. I removed a word for word paste of a press release (but perhaps there are more). In my opinion, the article is almost impenetrable with jargon, and many of the sources are weak (at least one is a wiki) - but a Queen's Award in the London Gazette confers notability that is hard to argue with.
So this is notable and has at least one good source, but has little content worth keeping.
I edited it, which keeps it from the speedy list for six months, but the OP has not edited since they day the wrote the article, so no-one will ever submit it for review. Therefore, I don't see any loss if we tag it for deletion now.
Just my opinion. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 15:41, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your analysis. I have nominated it for deletion. Perhaps someone will write an acceptable article about this topic in the future. —Anne Delong (talk) 22:20, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Help with updates to Harry & David

Hi, I am looking for editors to review a draft I have prepared to replace the existing Harry & David article. The current article is has been edited infrequently and is in need of general clean up and expansion. I believe my draft is an improvement over the existing company page, however as I've prepared this draft on behalf of Harry and David Holdings Inc. I'd prefer not make any changes to the article myself.

I have left a more detailed request on the Harry & David Talk page, which explains the changes I'm proposing and provides a link to the draft in my user space. If you have any questions or comments about my draft I hope that you will leave me a message on the article's Talk page so we can discuss and I can make any necessary changes. Cold Calling

The term Cold Calling simply relates to contacting people usually via telephone that are basically strangers as it relates to an established existing personal relationship of any kind.

In Marketing and Network Marketing Cold Calling is a technique to reach out to people that are strangers however there is a common interest relating to what it is the Marketer may have to offer. In other words Cold Calling in Network Marketing refers to people with a product or a service that are reaching out to contact people that they would have not have known at all before that have indicated an interest in similar generally speaking products or services.

What the Cold Calling Marketer have in common is the fact that the Cold Call Contact or Genuine Prospect is looking for something related to a service or a product and the Marketer has a service or a product related to that interest.

Entrepreneur article

03.09.14 The initial definition of the word at the front of this article, although not untrue does not i think give enough of a description. An entrepreneur is not just about business, but about innovation and the start of something new, and being able to get others involved in that. Often making money but also building something up from an initial idea, opportunity or gap in the market. The dictionary definition is below. Is it perhaps worth updating the page information to reflect this?

noun, plural entrepreneurs [ahn-truh-pruh-nurz, -noo rz; French ahn-truh-pruh-nœr] (Show IPA) 1. a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk. 2. an employer of productive labor; contractor. verb (used with object) 3. to deal with or initiate as an entrepreneur. verb (used without object) 4. to act as an entrepreneur. — Preceding unsigned comment added by L Rackham (talkcontribs) 09:06, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Are any of the members of this wiki-project checking Wikipedia:WikiProject_Business#Article_alerts to see if any important pages are nominated for deletion? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:32, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Not me, until now. The alerts didn't show up on my watchlist until now, as I was only watching this main project page. To watch alerts, I have added the sub-page to my watchlist: Wikipedia:WikiProject Business/Article alerts Note: the slash (/) instead of the hash (#). --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 14:10, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Ellen Pao discrimination lawsuit and business

Ellen Pao is currently rated as (Start-class, Low-importance) for this WikiProject. Just wondering if others also think that the importance of this article should be raised because of the ongoing high-visibility discrimination suit taking place? Ottawahitech (talk) 04:54, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Yes. I'll move it to Mid. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 14:21, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Pi Sigma Epsilon

They do a Pro-Am Sell A Thon which rewards $50,000 to the winner. They are active in many major universities and should be classified as a co-ed, professional fraternity organization. http://www.pse.org/index.php/mainmenu-events/pro-am-sell-a-thon/pro-am-about

Are you saying that we need a wikipedia page for Pi Sigma Epsilon? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:49, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Anyone here assessing articles?

I see that this project has 1,563 un-assessed articles and was wondering if there is a need for help in this area? Ottawahitech (talk) 02:43, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Hmm..Looks like there are two locations in this project relating to article assessment:

DYK - history of Twitter on Wikipedia

The Twitter page was speedily deleted twice in early 2007. It finally managed to survive a proposed deletion in March of that year. Today the Twitter page brings close to a quarter million eyeballs a month to Wikipedia. Ottawahitech (talk) 05:20, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Just so happens that Ellen Pao, a venture capitalist, also failed to convince her employer to invest in Twitter in 2007 when her suggestion was shot down by management. (http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/09/ellen-pao-owns-the-room/) Ottawahitech (talk) 19:54, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Dear business experts: Here's an old AfC submission that will soon be deleted as a stale draft. Perhaps someone here will be able to tell if this is a notable company, and if the page should be kept and improved.—Anne Delong (talk) 16:06, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Bill Lupien - notable? appropriate content for a business article?

Dear business experts: This draft seems to me to be about a notable business person, and there are plenty of references (maybe too many). I have linked some of the references on line. I don't know anything about the business world, but I feel that the article needs editing for tone. I'd be grateful if someone could improve it before it goes into mainspace. —Anne Delong (talk) 23:57, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

If it's actually notable (you've provided no proof of this), it belongs in WP:WikiProject Finance and/or WP:WikiProject Websites. Finally, why would anyone bother to write an article on a subject you can't even spell properly? -- DanielPenfield (talk) 13:24, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Help with MetLife History section

Hello all. I'm working on behalf of MetLife to suggest improvements to their article, and I'm looking for interested editors who might join the discussion. Earlier this month, I proposed some changes to the article's History section, but thus far I haven't gotten any feedback. Since the article is of interest to this WikiProject, I'm hoping someone here might be curious enough to help. Because of my COI, I will not be making any edits myself, but I instead ask that other editors review my work and move it to the live article if they agree with the changes. I look forward to responding to any feedback on the article's talk page. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:27, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Business to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Business/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the Tool Labs tool. Proposing deletion / redirection for Citrix Online

Hi there. I'm looking for editors interested in businesses, specifically software companies, to take a look at something I've proposed on the Citrix Online article. I'd like to discuss whether the article could be redirected to the Citrix Systems article, given that I don't believe Citrix Online meets WP:GNG and no longer exists as a division of Citrix. As a quick disclosure: I am working as a paid consultant to Citrix, so I won't be making any edits to the article myself. RISKY ENTREPRENEURIALISM

Can you please add: Ferdinand Lundberg said in "The Rich and The Super-Rich" (1968):

Pg. 300 - Entering into business for oneself in the United States has always been a highly risky affair. Most who remain in business do so on the thinnest of survival margins, constantly financed by short-term bank loans, the constant prey to recessions, regional strikes, or even vagaries of the weather. Many are hopelessly in debt. (Pg 94) Each year the failures exceed the new successes by a very, very, very wide margin. It is indeed a near-miracle, front page news, when anyone really makes it. Blame can be leveled for the misleading propaganda about the business system. Sound advice to 85 to 95 percent of Americans, contemplating opening new businesses would, in light of the facts, simply be "Don't." Salt98789 (talk) 00:54, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

The origin of Business Tranformation

Business Transformation originated at Gemini Consulting in the early 90s. This was enabled by what was then Gemini's fairly unique beginning which was the merger of a strategy firm, the MAC Group, and an operations firm URC, United Research. This Gemini could thus set the vision and deliver the transformation.

The methodology was detailed James Kelly and Francis Guillarts' book Transforming the Organisation. I believe Gemini even trademarked the term.

Unfortunately it has begun to be used widely across the consulting industry to mean "big delivery project"! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.84.229.7 (talk) 10:35, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

WP Business and/or WP Companies?

AfC business article rejections v publications

I'm watching about 5 (decently written and sourced) business/organization articles in Articles for Creation. I thought it would be interesting to see the result here, there seems to be a re-occurring pattern developing. (None of these are my articles are mine, just frustrated with the AfD review process and moving target requirements.)

Article has been subsequently reviewed, polished and published by another editor Camden Collective

End of list for now. -- Paid Editor -- User:009o9Talk 23:53, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Updated -- Paid Editor -- User:009o9Talk 09:32, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Comment The pattern here seems to be that a small group of editors will deny fairly reasonable business and organizational articles in WP:AfC routinely. The articles that do make it through, seem to have been where another editor has taken them straight from the Drafts section (I don't know if that was a result of this discussion or not). Resubmitting to AfC seems to just attract the same declining editors. Thoughts? -- Paid Editor -- User:009o9Talk 05:17, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
@009o9: Just thought you may be interested to know that it is not only paid or business article editors who are experiencing frustration with the the so-called AfD culture. Ottawahitech (talk) 23:52, 19 December 2015 (UTC)please ping me
There is no point in accepting an article from AfC unless it is likely to survive AfD. Promotional articles on minor companies usually don't. The clearest sign of such problems is a great many weak citations for an apparently insignificant company. With respect to notability, articles that include very minor awards give the impression that there are no major awards. Articles that emphasise the foundation and initial funding of a company give the impression that there is little in the way of actual accomplishments. Articles that use mainly press releases for references imply that they is nothing better. Articles that use local journals for references imply that there's nothing widely known. Articles that include trivial articles on trivial charities imply there is nothing major. As for promotionalism, articles that list every officer of a company imply that the intent is to promote the company; articles that emphasize the founder's motivations imply that also; articles that use buzzwords like "solution" imply that the editor doesn't know how to write anything other than a press release.Articles that include vague terms of praise or excellence imply that the editor does not understand the difference between that and an encyclopedia. If the company is notable, there will be better material than this. If it isn't present, it indicates either a promotional intent, or that it isn't there--or , sometimes, that it's an over-hasty job by a coi editor. DGG ( talk ) 01:10, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
DGG's are pretty much spot on. Some of these issues are why there are now the guidelines of WP:CORPDEPTH and WP:ROUTINE. Trivial mentions, promotional articles, and trivial awards actually point out the lack of notability. Some of the examples listed in the original post are perfect examples of how the AfC process works, as the editors received feedback and then improved the article, correcting the deficiencies, e.g. Camden Collective, which when it was declined initially, was nothing but a promo for the company, while the accepted article, while still promotional (imho), now serves an informational purpose. Help with Hansjörg Wyss?

Hi all. Back in October, I worked with another editor on changes to the Synthes USA section of the Hansjörg Wyss article based on a new draft I wrote. My draft reduced information about an indictment Wyss' company was involved in (here's what the article originally said). I detail my reasoning for removing that material here, but my main argument was that it didn't belong because Wyss was not named in the indictment and was never charged with wrongdoing. The editor who initially reviewed agreed.

Here's a quick summary of what followed:

  • An editor who had not been involved in the Talk page discussion, reverted some of the changes and added in more information about the indictment
  • I engaged the editor on the Talk page and we agreed to continue to work on the language, but the conversation stalled
  • I then went through the Third Opinion process and an editor concluded that the text shouldn't be so detailed. However, they declined to make any edits

Since then, I have had difficulty finding anyone to help make the changes. I will not make them myself because I have a financial conflict of interest and I am working on the article on behalf of The Wyss Foundation. Would anyone here be interested in taking a look and making edits as they see fit? Thanks! Heatherer (talk) 17:12, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Doug McMillon article

 Completed

Hello, WikiProject Business members! I recently posted a full draft in my user space to update the Wikipedia article on Walmart CEO Doug McMillon. You can see the edit request I posted here on the Talk page. My draft maintains most of what appears in the live article, but it adds more information, updates, fixes inaccuracies, better organizes and adds citations.

I am one of Walmart's representatives on Wikipedia, so I won't edit the article myself. Can any editors help? I am happy to answer any questions. Thanks, JLD at Walmart (talk) 14:13, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Editing Assurant

First and foremost, I have a paid COI (noted here and here). I posted on the talk page about a month ago and haven't gotten any responses, so I was hoping that the members of WP Business might be able to help me out. The full question is posted there, but to summarize: I reviewed the actual South Carolina Supreme Court Ruling and have found nothing within it that suggests "that the company's policy was to target every policyholder recently diagnosed with HIV for an automatic fraud investigation." (reference here) I think the language describing the automatic fraud investigation should be removed. Can anyone weigh in on this? At the very least, I'm personally interested in how to go about weigh sources like this against each other in the future.--FacultiesIntact (talk) 17:51, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Looking for feedback on a tool on Visual Editor to add open license text from other sources

Hi all

I'm designing a tool for Visual Editor to make it easy for people to add open license text from other sources, there are a huge number of open license sources compatible with Wikipedia including around 9000 journals. I can see a very large opportunity to easily create a high volume of good quality articles quickly. I have done a small project with open license text from UNESCO as a proof of concept, any thoughts, feedback or endorsements (on the Meta page) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Writing essays/guidelines

Unfortunately it seems anybody who makes a bold attempt to significantly improve a company or CEO article gets some of anti paid editing warriors making wild accusations. It's a problem I think, especially given that so many business articles have been hijacked by PR operatives and the cruft added often goes undetected, so are often in a poor state and need a neutral editor to sort out. If you look to see what new pages or proposed drafts get deleted/rejected there is a major problem I see on here with people who declare a COI and get their work rejected or dismissed as an advert. I've seen a lot of quite notable firms and businesspeople rejected because people don't like the fact that it's a clear COI or is worded in a way which isn't quite neutral. Do you think perhaps a detailed essay on how to write business articles and what to avoid/include might be a good idea? We're missing out on a lot of genuinely notable business articles on here because of this issue I think, and the content should really be treated as fairly as any other subject.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Having just rescued John D Wood & Co. from the wiki-bitbucket, I believe this is more than just a matter of COI editing. I believe it is a matter of a general anti-business sentiments. Ottawahitech (talk) 19:54, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Let's AGF here. There might be an anti-business attitude among some, especially after having been inundated with a lot of CoI stuff. As for the John D Wood & Co. article, it reads promotionally and it doesn't pass either NCORP or GNG. I agree with Dr. Blofeld that an essay of best practices is needed although I would assume such a thing already exists. With the number of crap articles on businesses we have here I have a hard time believing that "We're missing out on a lot of genuinely notable business articles". Chris Troutman (talk) 20:20, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Business Insurance

The article Business insurance has been a redirect to Insurance since 2007. Before that time there was an elaborate article on the topic. Just wondering if there is anyone here interested in reviving the old article. Ottawahitech (talk) 19:28, 10 June 2016 (UTC)please ping me

@Ottawahitech:, Kuru from 2007 seemed to feel that the elaborate, original article was a copyright violation. No objections to re-opening the stub obviously; there are millions of sources that can be used to develop an original commercial/business insurance article. Kuru (talk) 15:14, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Proposed split of State-owned enterprise to list article

I've proposed splitting State-owned enterprise out into List of state-owned enterprises, as a significant bulk of the article simply lists SOEs by country. I would suggest that it is better to have the separate list article for companies, and then maintain this article as a prose discussion of SOEs, mentioning companies when relevant to the prose.

Greetings WikiProject Business/Archive 7 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

A recent Forbes article

A recent Forbes article stated that the Indian economy surpassed that of the UK. However, Forbes used an unconventional method to arrive at this conclusion - they took the recent 20% slump in the value of the pound, and used that exchange rate for the entire 2016 GDP of the UK. Needless to say, this method of calculating GDP is completely wrong; the IMF and World Bank (etc.) take average monthly exchange rates. However, over at the Economy of the United Kingdom, Economy of France and Economy of India articles, many (uninformed) editors are taking the Forbes article as gospel. This is bad practice and I think it better we stick to official figures as provided by the IMF, where the methodology is proper. It would be nice if other editors here could help me keep an eye on those articles. Cheers. Antiochus the Great (talk) 12:25, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Business/Archive 7/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Business.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Help with article Stewart W. Bainum Jr.

Hi there, I'm reaching out here to see if anyone involved in this WikiProject would be interested to review a draft seeking to update and expand the article for Stewart W. Bainum Jr. Mr. Bainum is the current chairman of Choice Hotels and his existing article is quite short, likely due to more in-depth sources about him being older and not easily findable online. From news clippings provided by Mr. Bainum and research on Lexis Nexis and HighBeam, I've been able to find a lot of older sources that provide information about his political career and his development of the company that became Choice Hotels. If you're interested and have time to take a look, I have posted an edit request on the article's Talk page with more details. Help with ICF International?

Hello! WikiProject Business members might be interested in this edit request at ICF International. The article on the Virginia-based consulting and technology services company is essentially a stub after an editor deleted much of the it due to potential copyright violations (which had apparently lasted for some years). About the same time that the potential copyvios were removed, I was working on a draft of the article to address other issues I saw: the entry relied heavily on primary sources, its content was choppy, fragmented and outdated. Now my draft is ready, and I'm here looking for another editor to review and consider implementing my proposed edits. I won't make the changes myself, as I am working on behalf of ICF, which I have also disclosed on the article's Talk page. Please let me know if you have any questions at all. As the parent of the WikiProject Finance and also the WikiProject Investment I would like to let you know of the merger im proposing:

I have become aware, as a member, that this project is becoming increasingly more inactive. I recently revived the WikiProject Investment and it has been growing.

So I would like to propose a merger of these two projects. It would benefit the general coverage of finance and investment on Wikipeda ´, as both of these topics have much in common.

Please let me know if what your opinion on this is.

Thanks! WikiEditCrunch (talk) 10:24, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

I too noticed that issue after you had pointed out this here.Well the assessment page Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/WikiProject Business articles by quality statistics has not been updated by Wikipedia 1.0 bot since 2010,but when I looked at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Business page there were some differences that I compared with each other.Especially some files talk pages related to Business that I went onto create only in this month are recorded in this project page but not in assessment page.I was confused with this issue which is also similar to that of what happened to Wikipedia:WikiProject Carrom as well.Thank you Abishe (talk) 17:43, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

But take a look at this Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/WikiProject Business articles by quality log. This assessment has been working pity well by assessing each and every articles.Yes the interest shown on this project may have diminished(but I am not sure)I would like to improve articles related to Business Abishe (talk) 18:05, 27 August 2017 (UTC)

Lubrizol edit requests 2017

Editors, I posted a request for edits on the Lubrizol Talk page. With this request I ask editors to update the revenue and employee figures in the infobox and introduction. Here I ask editors to clean up the History section and add a paragraph that can replace potentially misleading material from Operations. Lastly, there is this request asking editors to include the number of Lubrizol facilities and offices to Operations. An editor had answered the last request, but it was reverted by another editor because I had used Lubrizol's website to verify the information. A third voice would be helpful in reviewing that piece of the edit request. I work for Lubrizol and I am aware of my conflict of interest; can an editor, or editors, review the draft and move the edits into the live article if they are neutral and appropriately cited? Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Lz maor (Talk · COI--Lubrizol employee) 17:15, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Help updating Sageworks

Hi! Are any WikiProject Business editors interested in some proposed updates for the article on Sageworks, a business that collects financial data on the private sector, and makes financial data and analysis software. In full disclosure, I'm here on behalf of Sageworks as part of my work with Beutler Ink. To start with, I've suggested a proposal for the History section, to provide some background on how the firm got started and a few major milestones. At Talk:Sageworks I've provided some background on the history of the page and why I'm offering new drafts. Let me know if you have any feedback or questions. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:37, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Following up to say this request has been reviewed. Of course if anyone has an interest in taking a look and has any questions, I'm more than happy to discuss. Cheers, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:08, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Help with New York Life request

Hi! I'm wondering if WikiProject Business editors might be interested in reviewing proposed updates at New York Life Insurance Company. The requests is to update article's infobox to: add products and assets under management; update income and employee figures. In full disclosure, I'm here on behalf of New York Life Insurance Company as part of my work with Beutler Ink. My hope is that an uninvolved editor (or editors) can review my proposed updates and make edits as appropriate. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:20, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject

Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

A list of the relevant links on pages which fall within the remit of this wikiproject can be found at http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/cgi-bin/topic_points.py?banner=WikiProject_Business

Please take a few minutes to help make these more useful to our readers.— Rod talk 13:56, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Blake Ricciardi

Would someone from this WikiProject take a look at Blake Ricciardi? I am unable to find any sources which show that this person in Wikipedia notable enough for a stand-alone article per WP:GNG or WP:BIO. Googling gets a number of hits, but these seem to be mainly primary sources or trivia mentions and not the significant coverage in independent reliable sources needed for Wikipedia notability. It has been suggested that the article be taken to AfD, but I'm asking here to see if someone might be aware of better sources which can be used. The article was recently heaviy edited by an IP (most likely someone connected to the subject) who turned it into a mish-mash over promotional content. It was also most likely created by someone connected to subject. The article has been restored to the last table version before the IP editing, but even that doesn't seem good enough to avoid AfD. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:54, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Book spam in Lean services

I have removed most of the spam for now, but it would be great if knowledgeable editors could keep an eye on this article. It has been the target of persistent book spam to promote the publications of "Lean Practitioner" Debashis Sarkar, as of 2006 a Deputy General Manager in an Indian bank. The author focusses on "XXX for dummies"-style guidebooks and "Quiz" books (book list on Amazon), I highly doubt he is a reliable expert on theoretical or academic aspects of this topic. GermanJoe (talk) 11:44, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

Another interesting topic, that could use some love from interested editors. After a large expansion in 2014, the current version is too bloated, reads like a personal essay/guide and lacks uninvolved expert sources. Thanks in advance for any help in improving this article. Input requested for New-collar worker

Hi all, I've been working in recent months to create a new Wikipedia article for New-collar worker and seeking editors' feedback on whether the term can be added to Designation of workers by collar color and I'd love to get more input at both pages. One editor has raised a discussion at Talk:New-collar worker as to whether the article is misleading about the origin of the term, on the basis of a title of an article discussing gold-collar workers. Since our readings of the piece seem quite different, it would be great to have some other editors take a look and see if we can clear this up! In full disclosure, I wrote and submitted the New-collar worker draft to AfC as part of my work at Beutler Ink, on behalf of IBM via Vianovo. Thanks in advance for any feedback, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:56, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Additional review at Steuart Walton

Hi! Is anyone from this project able to give a second review to my edit request to update Steuart Walton? Because of my Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, I will not direct edit the page. Oshwah reviewed my draft last month. While Oshwah said they did not see anything concerning with my request, they were hoping another editor could also review. Since no one else has replied on the Steuart Walton Talk page, I bring it to your attention here. In a nutshell, the article is outdated and missing recent information about his work. Self-citing (self-promoting) articles

Lacking specific business-related background knowledge myself, it would be great if interested editors could have a critical look on these two articles. The first one has been clearly written by the source author, the second one by someone with a likely conflict of interest to promote a new publication. Questions to answer would be 1) Are these concepts "Wiki-notable"? 2) Are the used sources (a model based on a PhD survey and a self-published digital publication) sufficiently reliable?, and finally 3) Is it possible to reduce the excessive usage of buzzphrases and vague generalizations to condense the topics into something encyclopedic? Any help from uninvolved topic experts would be appreciated. GermanJoe (talk) 15:56, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Employability: needs help

Employability is an important article that seems to have been declining in quality over the past few years, and it has some major problems now, starting with the lead. If you can, please help clean up the article and put it on your watchlist to help prevent further degeneration in the future. Although I'm not a member of this WikiProject, I've increased the importance of the article to "high", since employability would seem to be a topic of high importance indeed for WikiProject Business. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   10:54, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Update Permanently Broken link on Career Break Page

I found a permanently broken link on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Career_break while researching taking a sabbatical a from private company.

I would like to update that broken link with a very similar, but updated article on a similar type of website.

Recommended updated article: [1] ).

The site is the same type of site as the original link (checked on WayBack Machine), similar but more detailed information and discusses exactly the issue the citation is about (sabbaticals being traditionally for academics but are now being considered by private employers wanting to retain top talent). It also gives employers information about how to establish a policy inclusive of sabbaticals in the workplace.

The updated link is on a recruitment site with experience in workplace policy. I think this link would be better than a permanently dead link from an old article that is very similar to the new one (but the new one is updated).

Tessrob2345 (talk) 22:22, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

@Tessrob2345:, as an anonymous blog post on a commercial site (the blog post was only written 1 week ago by the way), the source fails Wikipedia's requirements for a reliable source. Please see WP:RS for more information. Such blogs with "tips" and "useful information" are routinely hosted on commercial sites to boost the site's reputation and draw additional webtraffic to its services, but they are not reliable sources. Adding such links is generally frowned upon and will usually get reverted. To improve the article, I have removed several similarly inappropriate links and added a functional archive for the dead link. That should fix the mentioned issue. Help with Gallup article?

Resolved

Hello, I am working on updates to Gallup that editors at WikiProject Business might be interested in. The bulk of the article for the company focuses on The Gallup Poll, for which Gallup is obviously very well known. However, the poll is just a fraction of what the company does. Its main business is in management consulting. I am just getting started with my proposed updates to the page with a smaller request to update the article infobox and Gallup Press section. The infobox is missing key content and the Gallup Press section is currently supported only by primary sources. I've made some suggested changes to fix all these issues. As disclosed on the Gallup Talk page, I have a financial conflict of interest, as I'm offering these updates on behalf of the company as part of my work with Beutler Ink, so I'm looking for other editors to review. Could any editors here help? Thanks for considering, Danilo Two (talk) 20:56, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Jim Bankoff draft article

Resolved

On behalf of Vox Media, I've drafted an expanded and improved Wikipedia article about Jim Bankoff (the company's chairman and CEO) for community review. The current article has some bad sourcing and a couple of inaccuracies (including his birth date), so I've worked to draft a more thorough overview of his early life and education, career, and personal life. I don't edit the main space because of my COI, so I'm looking for volunteer editors to review this draft and implement proposed content appropriately. If this sounds like something you'd be interested to help with, please read my comments on the article's talk page, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Request at Gallup (company)

Hello, WikiProject Business editors might be interested in a request at Talk:Gallup (company) to develop a new section focusing on Gallup's services. I'm also looking for editors' input on the question of whether Gallup Poll should be split into its own standalone article. I have a financial conflict of interest, as I'm offering these updates on behalf of the company as part of my work with Beutler Ink, so I'm looking for other editors to review. Thanks for considering, Danilo Two (talk) 20:48, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Information broker - low importance

I was surprised to see that the page for Information broker was marked as "low importance". We have heard of Facebook, Cambridge Analytica, the theft from Equifax.... Am I looking in the wrong page? Or have the community of people who worry about their exposure and privacy losses not come to wp for info?

I also noticed that there are a few pages like List broker that were not linking to Information broker. And vice versa probably. Are there varying opinions about the names for these companies?

I am also tempted to start a "List of Information Brokers" page, but I recall hearing that the wp community is not in love with the while "List of" thing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I go somewhere else in particular to either find or add to or build such a list? My inner data junkie needs to know.

I am itching to "fix" some of these issues but do not want to do it in a contrary manner.

Much thanx. RayKiddy (talk) 19:31, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

HELP WANTED

For a number of years we have been experiencing a steady decline in the number of administrators as a result of attrition and a declining number of editors willing to consider adminship. Things have reached a point where we are starting to experience chronic backlogs in important areas of the project including noticeboards, requests for closure, SPI, CSD & etc. If you are an experienced editor with around two years (or more) of tenure, 10k edits give or take and no record of seriously disruptive behavior, please consider if you might be willing to help out the community by becoming an administrator. The community can only function as well as we all are willing to participate. If you are interested start by reading WP:MOP and WP:RFAADVICE. Then go to WP:ORCP and open a discussion. Over the next few days experienced editors will take a look at your record and let you know what they think your chances are of passing RfA (the three most terrifying letters on Wikipedia) as well as provide you with feedback on areas that might be of concern and how to prepare yourself. You can find a list of experienced editors who may be willing to nominate you here. Finally, I may not have this page on my watchlist, so if you want to reply to me directly please ping me. Thank you and happy editing... -Ad Orientem (talk) 22:03, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

Distinguishing Between Atlas Consortium.com and Atlas Consortium.info

Possible Nativo Wikipedia Article

Hello! I've been a user of the platform for some time (although not the most active) and would like to request some help with an article 😊

On my sandbox page, I’ve created a draft of an article for an organization, Nativo. It’s a conflict of interest for me to publish the article (as I’m a current employee), but it would be fantastic if someone could take a look and see if the topic is noteworthy enough to warrant a place on Wikipedia. If so, and anyone would like to help edit the draft or move it into mainspace, please let me know; and if not, I completely understand. I’ve been doing my best to research the best way to go about this process, so if I’m out of line, my sincere apologies: I’m more than happy to follow a different procedure/process in creating or requesting the article, if needed. Thank you for taking the time to read over this request, and I look forward to discussing the matter further!

Draft entry for Antonio Neri

Hello, I'm Andrada and I work for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). I've created an account to suggest improvements to articles related to the company, and I've disclosed my conflict of interest as required. I've saved a draft entry for the President and CEO at Draft:Antonio Neri (businessman). I'm trying to find an editor who can review and move the draft, presumably to Antonio Neri (businessman) since there's already a page for the Florentine priest Antonio Neri. Thank you. Up for deletion Commuter Cars

Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Arguably a notable company. Sources in Time Magazine, CNN Money and a blurb in Bloomberg. I spent some time trying to develop the categories and improve the refs. Perhaps more refs can be located. Should be considered in conjunction with Commuter Cars Tango. I have improved the reference formatting on the latter article, but it would be improved by moving some of the "References" to in line citations. I also improved the formatting of the reference in this article Commuter Cars. In any event, between the two articles, there is plenty to satisfy WP:GNG. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Family businesses

Category:Family businesses was deleted in a 2011 CfD on the grounds that the inclusion criteria were undefined and thus too subjective. That category reemerged in 2017 but as a shadow of its former self, indeed excluding the vast majority of the best-known family businesses from Tata Sons to S.C. Johnson & Son to Koç Holding. Rather than submit it for speedy deletion, I thought it would be best to ask here: is it worth keeping or not? Different firms might be known as family businesses for different reasons (e.g. ownership vs. control), so a list would arguably be superior, because it can incorporate citations. If kept, we will need to define an appropriate scope, particularly as the degree of family ownership or control is sometimes debatable (e.g. Hyundai Group). -- choster (talk) 23:05, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

DMAIC Article "Flavors" Removal

The first thing is the pronounciation.. There is seemingly much flavor in region and person. It ranges from de, də, dah, duh at the beginning to ma-ik and may-ik at the end. I personally think that the "y" (may-ik)is more of a local flavor than the ma-ik - which is how at least i hear it most often. "may" is pretty much US/UK only.

second: "measure the specification of (a) problem/goal" sounds again quite US like as well, since they have a tendency to omit the "a". once more in "The purpose of this step is to identify, validate and select (a) root cause for elimination." Or use the plural..

Under improve the "create" step could use some more context.. Wikipedia should help people seeking quick answers, it is not for well versed veterans..

"Replicate and thank the teams" This does not belong into a discriptive article, at least not in this form.

It might be viable if written as "Additional Steps: It is a sign of respect towards the involved parties to thank them for their participation and contribution. Additionally the DMAIC analysis results can be translated into other fields or used as an examplary case."

Is it is written now it looks like a copy paste from a 5cent advertisement brochure laying around in an employment office...

Managing Organisational Culture and Change

I was unable to find an article that covers managing culture and change in an organisation and explains its important and how difficult it is to change culture. Any suggestions on an article that covers this topic?

If not, would it be useful to create an article that explains managing organisational culture and change and has quotes like the ones below?

The most frequently cited reason for failure was neglecting to address organisational culture (Cameron 1997) <ref>Cameron, Kim S. “Techniques for Making Organizations Effective: Some Popular Approaches.” In Daniel Druckman, Jerome E. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Vanity awards essay

I'd recently nominated a vanity award for deletion and in it, mentioned some of the signs of a vanity award. MarnetteD suggested including this information somewhere.

I've started on a draft about identifying vanity awards, which can be found here. Right now it's in a rough draft format, so I thought it would be good to get some feedback and see if anyone would be interested in working on it as well. I admittedly wrote it with more books and film in mind, but I know that there is often an issue with vanity awards popping up on business related articles as well. Can someone look this over and suggest anything, especially when taking businesses into mind? I'm very much still in the drafting stage.

It's definitely going to remain an essay and I'm not looking to make it policy. More I'm just hoping to have a nice guideline in place for identifying vanity (or at least non-notable) awards. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 07:30, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
