I have written an article Mahatma Gandhi Central University protest which was accepted for article for creation on 27 December 2019 but some users copied text from references and links that's why this page was deleted due to copy right issue. I request you to undo the deletion and restoration the page. I'll remove all the copied text from the article and will write in my own words. It took almost 3 months to collect all the information and references to write this article. As Wikipedia plays a vital role in letting world know about the important things across the globe. Hope you'd love to help us in inclusion of one of the India's largest public universities protest to the Wikipedia so that whole world may know about it. Therefore, you are requested to think once more to undo the deletion and restoration the page. I'll try my level best to improve this article day by day and will be writing in my own word Thanking you.--Rohitmishra111 (talk) 14:31, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rohitmishra111 I regret to say that I am unable to restore text that is a copyright violation. If you intend to write an article in your own words, you should just go ahead and do so. If you need the text as a baseline, I could email it to you(if you have email enabled in your Preferences, do not post your email here) but you should not repost it here, even to change it later.
Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not for merely telling the world about a subject like a protest(regardless of how good the cause is). Wikipedia is for summarizing what independent reliable sources state about subjects only. If you just want to tell the world about your protest, you should use social media or an alternative forum. 331dot (talk) 14:40, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have summarized the independent reliable sources to write this article. It was accepted as article for creation on 27 December 2019 but it was deleted due to copy right violation when some user copied text from the sources which were Times of India, The Telegraph The wire and The Quint newspapers of India and pasted them to the article and I didn't get enough time to fix it. Now, I want to remove all the copied text from article so please help me out. Could you please restore the article once ? --Rohitmishra111 (talk) 14:59, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've said what I can do above. Please let me know if you want it emailed to you(again do not post your address here). If you find this unsatisfactory, you may go to deletion review. 331dot (talk) 16:51, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I need the text as a baseline for writing the article So, please send me the text on my email.--Rohitmishra111 (talk) 18:35, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am acknowledging your message- I will do so within a few hours. 331dot (talk) 18:46, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's a version at the draft. Is that still a copyright violation? Can Rohitmishra111 / Rohitmishra01 refashion that one? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 17:00, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Can you link to it? 331dot (talk) 20:32, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Smith0124[edit]

Hi- Last week you unblocked a user named Smith0124 for edit warring after he pledged to stop. Just so you're aware, yesterday he went on a revision rampage across numerous wikipedia articles, apparently settling family business. He's also found to be a possible sockpuppet of a indefinitely banned user, Peterjack1. Anyways, as he's reverted back to his old habits, I think you should talk with him again and consider a new block if he doesn't start accepting that wikipedia is a community and not Smith0124's personal blog on highways and parkways in the NY metropolitan area.108.21.182.146 (talk) 14:46, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Youth Defense[edit]

Hi there,

An editor named Bastun is ensuring that the Youth Defence page is loaded, biased and incomplete. Is this acceptable in Wikipedia?

For example, he is referencing the National Library of Ireland to back up a claim that Youth Defence have 'neo nazi' links - but the claim was removed from the NLI's website almost immediately and Bastun had to rely on the wayback machine to find it. This is not fair or neutral reporting of events, and breaches Wiki standards.

One member of Youth Defence - the PRO - attended an event in Germany, that does not mean the whole organisation has 'neo-nazi' links

Hi 331dot; just a heads-up to let you know that, pursuant to a rename and an agreement to avoid writing about their organisation, I have unblocked this user. Any issues, drop me a line. Cheers, Yunshui  23:13, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help. ASAP.[edit]

I have created a page called Perumaan. The film stars Arjun Das. User:Brutalgraph] keeps undoing my edits on both the Arjun Das and the Perumaan page. Can you kindly help me? --DragoMynaa

You need to first attempt to discuss the issue with them on the article talk page. If that does not result in a consensus as to how to proceed, you can then move on to dispute resolution channels that are available. You should not continue to readd the information- this is considered edit warring. If the other user is edit warring with you, you may report them to WP:ANEW, but your conduct will be examined there as well, so I would suggest you not go that route. 331dot (talk) 10:24, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The impact of religion on international negotiations[edit]

Dear Editor, Thank you very much for your attention to my article. All resources on this page are available and authentic. In-text references are also provided under the wiki rules. Please review the tag on this page. Anonyeader (talk) 09:10, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't read as an encyclopedia article, it reads as an essay laying out research and conclusions- which is original research. Wikipedia articles should be summarizing what sources say, not drawing conclusions from them. Even the title seems to be much like an essay title. 331dot (talk) 10:30, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your valuable comments. Yes, the content has to be extracted from the sources, and of course I did so. More to the point, I think your concern is how to write in an encyclopedia style, which you are right about. Another point is how I can change the page title, as the previous one is a bit long as you said. I am going to choose the new title "religion and negotiations". Thank you in advance for your attention.Anonyeader (talk) 11:54, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Changing a page title is done with a page move. If you are using a computer(not a phone), there should be a "More" tab at the top of the article, if you place the mouse pointer over it, a menu should appear where one option is "move". 331dot (talk) 11:57, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your guidance. It was very helpful. Anonyeader (talk) 13:12, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New user moving pages erratically[edit]

I noticed you're currently active, DolbyPedia has been moving pages around erratically, including some pretty long-standing articles like Persian Empire. I've left a message on their talk page but the user is unresponsive. As of right now, I'm more inclined to think this is the result of confusion rather than malice, but it could use some admin attention, thank you 2604:2000:8FC0:4:68BA:3B32:8613:8B6D (talk) 20:37, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [3]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Help with replicating other article template[edit]

Thanks 331dot for your help. I have changed my username as you advised. I am a researcher in Behavioural science and wish to create an article titled: 'Psychethics' in the same template as the article titled: Psychology. On the Psychology page it began with (Not to be confused with Phycology, Physiology, or Psychiatry). And on my Psychethics page i simply started it with (Not to be confused with Psychology or Psychiatry) Psychethics is a new behavioural subject and i simply want to put the article information about it on wikipedia.

And also, how do i delete unwanted 'drafts' sandbox' or article from my contribution page? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lardgeman (talkcontribs) 11:49, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lardgeman If you link to the page that you would like deleted, I should be able to do it. If you haven't already, before you attempt to actually place an article in the encyclopedia, you may wish to read Your First Article and use the new user tutorial. Successfully creating a new article is harder than most people think it is, and it's a good idea to learn as much about it as you can first, in order to increase your chances of success. I would also advise you to use Articles for Creation to submit your draft. 331dot (talk) 11:52, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Lardgeman. Excuse me for butting in, but I took a look at your draft Draft:Psychethics. I need to tell you that this draft is not ready to become an article - because it does not contain any references at all. You need to be able to establish, by references, that this is a real and notable field. Maybe it is an emerging field, not yet fully recognized; that would explain why so much of the article is about what "will be" taught, how treatment "may be" delivered, references to "psychethical hospitals" which do not now exist, and so on. But at Wikipedia we can only write about what has been published in reliable sources. If this is just based on your own knowledge and experience, that's what Wikipedia calls original research and it is not allowed. You could still go ahead and submit it to WP:AFC if you want, but without references to show this is an established field, it will not be accepted. You might be able to find references here: [4] Be sure to look at Help:Referencing for beginners. Good luck. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:12, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks MelanieN, for your advise. I really appreciate the community spirit to help others here on wikipedia. Thanks Lardgeman (talk) 11:48, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question about a username[edit]

Hi, dot! A question for you, since I see you are active at UAA. Today I happened across a user named TrynaBallWithMyBros. It struck me as a violation of username policy as offensive, since it equates to "trying to ball with my brothers". It didn't seem bad enough for a block, but I was going to tell them to get a new username. But then I saw that this person has been editing since August 2019 and has made 39 constructive edits during that time, starting out with small things, then graduating to the addition of sourced, uncontroversial content in a variety of areas. In other words, in the six months they have been here they seem to have been a productive user, with nobody objecting to their name. Should I just let it go on the grounds that their name doesn't seem to have bothered anyone? Or should they still be advised to change their name? If they are a productive new user I don't want to scare them away. I suppose they might be a sock, but they haven't been acting like one. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:23, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I am not seeing what is offensive about the name. Is it slang of some kind? If you think, though, that the name is offensive, you could attempt to discuss it with them and see what they say. 331dot (talk) 17:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. In American slang, "ball" used as a verb means "to have sex with"[5]. I guess that isn't as obvious to others as it was to me? -- MelanieN (talk) 17:55, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for enlightening me, I wasn't aware of that. Maybe I hang out with people who don't use that slang. :) If they've been productive, though, discussion might still be worth a shot. 331dot (talk) 18:32, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I run with the wrong crowd. 0;-D I'll give them a gentle suggestion, while complimenting them on their work to date. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:42, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I see that when they got a warning (erroneous in my opinion) from ClueBot on their talk page, they reverted it without comment. That sounds like the action of an established user, not a newbie. Well, I will continue trying to AGF, but that gives me pause. -- MelanieN (talk) 18:45, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"ballin" is also slang for playing basketball, especially aggressively or with street rules. John from Idegon (talk) 00:41, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Could you help?[edit]

Hi Dot. If you're around and could spare a few minutes, could you help me with something? (re: speedy deletion). If you don't accept unsolicited requests for help or can't spare the time please just ignore this message. Thanks. --kingboyk (talk) 14:09, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What is it that you need? 331dot (talk) 14:11, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to know if you think any or all of the following are valid candidates for speedy deletion under G11: Eman Al Yousuf, Samanth Subramanian, Sarah Enany, Kay Heikkinen, Abdulaziz al Farsi.
A little bit of background: I came across these when working through CSD. All originally by the same author. I declined 3, and deliberately left the last two to see what would happen (and they got deleted). --kingboyk (talk) 14:16, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably going to be an hour or so before I can dive into this. I'm willing, but if you need faster action, feel free to approach someone else. 331dot (talk) 14:28, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's no rush, thanks. --kingboyk (talk) 14:31, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion or Advertising of SP Guide Publications[edit]

The page SP Guide Publications is not my company or I am not the owner of this company. This is the information company article that publish books and magazines for public. My aim is not to advertise any company. So, I will request you to don't delete SP Guide Publications page. Harsh Barnwal -->Harsh Barnwal 12:04, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harsh.kumar.srk You say it's not your company, but you wrote "It has been 50 glorious years since we commenced our journey". Even if it isn't your company, the piece was still blatantly promotional and had no independent reliable sources to support its content. Wikipedia is not interested in what a business says about itself- Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage(not press releases, routine announcements, staff interviews) say about companies that meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. If you are new to creating articles(the hardest task on Wikipedia), you should review Your First Article and use the new user tutorial before attempting to do so. 331dot (talk) 12:13, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jaymovez[edit]

Hi 331dot (courtesy ping Jimfbleak as well as the blocking admin), I've been watching Jaymovez's unblock requests, and I've got to say, I'm not buying their explanation. The way they're commenting is shouting UPE to me (choice quotes include I began sculpting a page for a startup tech company known as "Movez" who has been making waves in the tech sphere, creating the first article on a company that surely will be receiving tons of PR this year, and The wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movez would be the central Wiki domain that is needed for the company's Wiki article - these all sound like a PR person speaking, not a journalist who just happened to discover an interesting company). Also, I can't imagine why a journalist would find it appropriate to include a company they've reported on in their username, and their concern about getting unblocked quickly is pretty suspicious. I'm not sure what to do other than wait for the next admin to come along and deal with it, but wanted to share my concerns. creffett (talk) 00:58, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

creffett, thanks for ping. Yeah, pretty clear that he won't get paid if he can't get unblocked quickly, not our problem. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:47, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020[edit]

Hello 331dot,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Another person trying to delete sourced content off of Lisa Lambe[edit]

user:Junipergreen deleted a good chunk of stuff of off Lisa Lambe. This might be the same person as user:Officiallisalambe. Lambe announced she is releasing a new album called Juniper (https://www.instagram.com/p/B8IO144l3MJ/?igshid=lty0vc8rnd1t) so probably another COI account. Mind you, Lambe is a very busy singer who has gigs almost every night, so I don't think she really cares about her own Wiki page. Must be a die hard fan or something.

I don't think a sockpuppetry investigation is worth it, since Official hasn't really tried to edit for a while. Kay girl 97 (talk) 05:35, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not certain that the two accounts are the same person; the second account removed a lot more than the first and did not claim to be Lisa. 331dot (talk) 10:14, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I know that they aren't claiming to be Lisa, it's just that someone is trying to play gatekeeper for her for some reason Kay girl 97 (talk) 15:15, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Might you have declined an unblock request for the wrong block?[edit]

Hi, Dot. I blocked Sriramadas.mahalingam twice in February: for edit warring on 9 February (this block has expired) and for disruptive editing and misuse of sources on 11 February, with the rationale here. The 11 February block is not focused on edit warring. It's partial, indefinite, and all about reliable sources. Also, it's not in a yellow box — sorry about that — unlike the first block. I'm concerned that maybe you thought the appeal was for the expired first block, which is more visible in its yellow box? The way your decline is worded might encourage the user to promise not to edit war any more, and expect to be unblocked, which would be unfortunate. I based the second block on what I take to be serious issues of CIR and tendentious editing. Bishonen | talk 21:03, 16 February 2020 (UTC).[reply]

I'll remember, PackMecEng, that when I make a crass comment in future, just to leave it there and create more dramah for people, rather than have second thoughts. I'm not sure that's a more constructive path, but never mind, at least it'll keep the peanut gallery happy. - SchroCat (talk) 07:35, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sorry about the ping, I figured you would make your way here eventually when you saw the result. I think the thing to take away and remember from this is perhaps just do not post stuff like that at all. PackMecEng (talk) 15:27, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

3AN[edit]

Thanks for trying, and sorry to see the grief you've received because of it. Interesting to see that more than one of the voices against me there are people who have grudges against me. I won't add more fuel to the 3AN page by commenting, which won't help anyone. For the record, I was trying to withdraw the comment and de-escalate matters and I thought it was against etiquette (let alone common sense and good manners) to revert a deletion of a comment that I'd made clear I regretted adding if there was no response to it. Sorry again for the grief you've received for it all. - SchroCat (talk) 07:30, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your words. I think that I would only say that we all need to better consider our edits or actions before making them. 331dot (talk) 08:24, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, certainly. In an ideal world I wouldn't have posted in the first place, but I'm not perfect, so I did the next best thing I could in the circumstances; it's a shame that AGF is ignored and that the grudge bearers have come out of the woodwork to fuel matters. Plus ça change, I guess. - SchroCat (talk) 08:57, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Global Renamer Query[edit]

Hi 331dot,

I see that you requested the global renamer right a few months back, so I was hoping you might be a logical person to ask about it.

The discussion indicated you weren't that active on a meta-side, but your experience in unblocks and UAA was accepted by everyone as sufficient (albeit with the seemingly traditional unhappiness with our UAA system). I'm starting to get involved with both spheres, and it would also be useful on an OTRS remit that I have more experience with. Do you think that the level of experience you had at the time would be necessary for a successful application, or is a need and a lower level of experience in the area likely to be sufficient? Nosebagbear (talk) 16:08, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm not an expert- I think if you have a specific need of the right and a desire to use it, it would be looked upon favorably. I don't see why we wouldn't want more users with the rename right. 331dot (talk) 19:07, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Projection[edit]

Everyday, Zeus’s eagle would come, and devour Prometheus’s liver. And every night, it would grow back again. There seems to be a concerted effort to dumb down Wikipedia.

user:Debresser used user:Warshy to circumvent your block. They previously used user:Davidbena on December 23 rd. Warshy projected that the Carlo Suares page was started by one editor masquerading as two. user:DGG, a “librarian”, finds it “difficult to be objective in discussing nonsense.” Please check these I.P. addresses.

Alesander (talk) 17:02, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I do not possess the tools to check IP addresses of accounts, you would need to ask a checkuser. 331dot (talk) 17:25, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Don't bother.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:28, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IPBE[edit]

Based on your follow-up question, I think maybe there's still some confusion as to how IPBE works. It doesn't matter if the effected editor is able to access Wikipedia from elsewhere, IPBE should be granted on request if the editor is 1) hindered from editing due to a webhost block 2) is a trusted user and 3) a checkuser is in the loop on granting the permission. -- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:24, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Is this only for webhost blocks? (i.e. not VPNs) 331dot (talk) 22:28, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's for any webhost/proxy/VPN blocks exemption. The policy was intentionally loosened due to the more recent privacy concerns of individuals and corporations. It used to be that editing via webhosts and proxies was nearly always abused, but now it's becoming much more commonplace and the policy for granting IPBE was updated to reflect the changing online environment. WP:IPECPROXY sums up the only requirements for granting the right. In this case, Rpresser meets the requirements as he has a need (blocked at work - confirmed by checkuser) and is a trusted user (1k+ edits since 2004). I can flip the switch if you'd be more comfortable with that. You can also request input from additional checkusers on the WP:IBPE talk page if you feel uncomfortable with the loosened requirements. -- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:44, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind as long as I know what the requirements are. I appreciate you enlightening me. 331dot (talk) 23:08, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have another question since I have you :) ; if someone states they are from China/somewhere with restricted access to Wikipedia, it is enough to just have a checkuser confirm that?(since it's hard for them to become a trusted user) 331dot (talk) 23:16, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As a checkuser it took me a while to acclimate to the changes. I was so used to giving the majority of requests a hard pass for so long! It still feels strange, but being able to grant the perm for specific periods of time as opposed to "all or nothing" is definitely an improvement.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:19, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker)331dot, I usually will look at what wiki's that the editor contributes to. I'll look at what edits they've made to zhwiki (as an example, if they say that they are from china), and if they were reverted. If there haven't been many edits, or they appear to be low-quality edits, I will probably issue IPBE for a fairly short time. Say 1-3 months, with the expectation that we would re-evaluate IPBE at that time. I typically do not grant IPBE for longer than 1 year. SQLQuery me! 23:29, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
↑Exactly what SQL said ↑. I always check the global account info of any individual requesting IPBE.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:34, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why I want to edit[edit]

In a reply from you in Teahouse, you asked me why I want to vanish if I am still editing. Many uses have asked me. Basically I don't like groups. I don't want to be a part of these hundreds of editors in Wikipedia. I want to be alone. When I joined, I did not know about all these editors would there. Now my only aim is to vanish. Please help. Omniscien1 (talk) 11:47, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Omniscien1 As I said, if you have followed the instructions at WP:VANISH, you should receive a reply soon. It will take time as we are all volunteers here, doing what we can when we can. So if you want to vanish, you should stop editing and allow the process to work. In most cases, if you no longer wish to edit, simply abandoning your account is sufficient. You may also change your mind as you mature as a person and later decide to contribute. If you continue to edit and ask questions about editing(as you did at the Teahouse) after you say you want to vanish, the vanishing may not be granted(it is a discretionary process and may be refused).
It is true that Wikipedia is a collaborative project where working with others is vital. This project would have difficulty functioning if we all did our own thing and did not communicate with each other- just as real life would be difficult without communication with other people. Is there a certain incident that prompted this decision? I only see other editors just trying to help you. 331dot (talk) 11:54, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Great confusion[edit]

Now after your suggestion in the Teahouse, I am confused whether to vanish or not. By the way, I said I fear the users doesn't refer to their names, but actually I don't like to be unknown people. I feel like they will hack me or they will blackmail me. This is the main cause for what I am vanishing. You have really helped me a lot. I know I am disturbing you. But please help me. Omniscien1 (talk) 15:10, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Omniscien1 I can't tell you whether you should vanish or not; it is your decision. If you are uncomfortable with editing here at this time, you can just stop using your account. You may find later that as you mature as a person and gain more life experiences, that you might change your mind later. Vanishing is only meant for people who intend never to return to Wikipedia.
No one can guarantee that you will never be hacked, but it is extremely unlikely as long as you take the proper security precautions; have a strong password that is not easy for others to guess, logging out when not using Wikipedia, especially on a public or shared computer, and not allowing others access to your account. I'm not certain as to why at this point in your life you fear blackmail(and I don't need to know), but if other users harass you or otherwise act inappropriately towards you, there are things that you can do to address that.
I'm really not trying to convince you to stay here if you really don't want to. Just trying to give you as much information as I can. I would encourage you to seek the advice of a parent, relative, or guardian as to deciding how you wish to proceed. As I've said, if you have decided to vanish and never return, and have properly followed the instructions, you will get a reply soon from a volunteer. 331dot (talk) 15:23, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you friend. I am vanishing from Wikipedia. Thanks for your support Omniscien1 (talk) 15:31, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – March 2020[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

Several Spelling mistakes and incorrect information, I have corrected this but it keeps being changed Sarahconifers1 (talk) 20:06, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sarahconifers1 I'll say what I told you on the Help Desk; Wikipedia summarizes what appears in published, independent reliable sources. If the information provided in those sources is incorrect, you need to 1) take that up with the sources and or 2) offer your own published, independent reliable sources with the correct information. I believe what you say, but we cannot just take your word for something, it must be possible to verify the information. It does appear that since reliable sources do not have a middle name for your grandfather, there is no need to mention it at all, so it has been removed. If you have further substantive changes you would like to see to the article, you should avoid directly editing the article(fixing spelling is okay) and instead make edit requests on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 23:48, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 331dot,

I just noticed that you protected this article. add new article[edit]

hello there and thanks for your reply I was looking for a rock group I like on here called emerald rain I couldn't find them so id though id add a article/page on them and start the ball rolling, so I was asking for help on where to begin on the process. many thanks chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChrisParfitt (talkcontribs) 14:07, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ChrisParfitt Hello Chris. I would advise you that successfully creating a new article is the hardest possible task to undertake on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. You will increase your chances of success if you first spend time editing existing articles in areas that interest you, so you get a feel for how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content. It's also a good idea to use the new user tutorial.
If you still want to attempt to create an article, you should first read Your First Article; you can then visit Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review by an experienced editor who can then, if they accept it, formally place the draft in the encyclopedia. This is better than placing it directly in the encyclopedia yourself, as it will be treated less critically. You will need to review the special Wikipedia definition of a notable band to see if Emerald Rain meets at least one aspect of that definition, then you will need to gather as many independent reliable sources with significant coverage of the band as you can find (three is usually considered to be a good number). The draft article should only summarize what these independent sources state. 331dot (talk) 14:20, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

many thanks for the message, I will give it read through and start from there.

My userpage[edit]

I'm not trying to write an article I was trying to create the User:Tezzadiver info page. I followed the procedure as outlined in how to create a User page. So is this not the right way? Its info not an article. Is this not correct, I should tell who I am on my Userpage? from what I see that's whats expected.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tezzadiver (talkcontribs) 07:45, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tezzadiver You edited your sandbox and submitted it as an article draft, you did not edit your user page(User:Tezzadiver). If you just want to edit your userpage, you can do that and you don't need to submit it for anyone to review. Please note that your user page is meant as a place for you to introduce yourself to the Wikipedia community in the context of your Wikipedia use. You may wish to review the user page guidelines. 331dot (talk) 07:52, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dondyuk[edit]

I'd be very surprised if Maxim Dondyuk wasn't Maxim Dondyuk. Now that I observe the history of the latter article, and the list of contributions by Maximus vms, I'd be surprised if Maximus vms wasn't Dondyuk too. I can't complain about your block or the template you used for it, but fear that it would give the impression to the real-world MD that he could simply reinvent himself as "Maximus redux" or whatever and then edit merrily away. How about adding that, with whatever username, the real-world MD or anyone closely related to him should suggest edits on the talk page rather than editing directly?

I'd add it myself, but I'd prefer not to give the impression that different admins are at cross purposes.

Incidentally, the reason the article's on my watchlist is that I knew of the photographer before I knew that he had an article. The current article has problems, but an article is merited. -- Hoary (talk) 09:17, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to add that, it is fine with me, and I might myself later if you aren't able to. I simply did it as a guard against impersonation- I had no issue with that specific edit. 331dot (talk) 09:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Done. I hope that what I wrote there was clear and persuasive. -- Hoary (talk) 12:02, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Johnson28.7 I can't be of much help with subjects I know little about. I gave you some advice on the Help Desk. I think you have made a common error for new users in that you dived right in to creating articles- the absolute hardest task to perform on Wikipedia- without fully understanding the process. Wikipedia is not for merely telling about something. Wikipedia articles must summarize what independent reliable sources state about article subjects that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability.

Bookkeeping problem at UTRS 29406?[edit]

Can you take a look at [7]? This user said that he talked to you about a webhost block keeping him from editing. I only saw this by looking at CAT:UNB. It showed up as an unhandled request. But this guy filed an unblock request from an IP, Special:Contributions/108.60.190.111, that shows no active blocks. You declined the unblock. The IP is in Sakatchewan, Canada, which is unlikely to be affected by a webhost block on Atlantic Metro Communications, which is on the east coast. The message at User talk:108.60.190.111 is your decline of the last unblock. Currently there is an open UTRS which shows as 'NEW' from him though is not in any queue. It says that User:DeltaQuad left a comment on the UTRS though I can't see it. Puzzling that this UTRS still shows up as NEW. Maybe a checkuser has to fix it, or a UTRS administrator. Why am I here, asking you? Possibly you have good advice. Thanks, anyway, EdJohnston (talk) 17:32, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EdJohnston I think it shows up as unread because no one has reserved the request; DQ's making a comment(which I cannot read either) didn't reserve the request. When I responded to the initial request I was just going by what the block on the IP said. 331dot (talk) 20:42, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
How about somebody just reply to the guy at User talk:108.60.190.111 and tell him he is not blocked? Would that help in some way? Unless he is using the 108.60 address (his true IP) to proxy through Atlantic Metro. But if he can log in at 108.60 he should just use that to edit Wikipedia. EdJohnston (talk) 20:46, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense to me. 331dot (talk) 20:47, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I did that and also tried to send a message to the guy through UTRS. Will see if anything happens. Thanks your your reply, EdJohnston (talk) 21:02, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@EdJohnston: I revealed specific data about the IP. The reason you can't see it is because it's like the CU log. I contacted the original blocking admin and the has been lifted for the user. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 17:20, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jesse Williams (actor)[edit]

I keep adding a well-publicized relationship between Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly, and I verified it with a viable source that isn't tabloid journalism (The New York Daily News). I've taken screenshots as well. Furthermore, I've documented that The New York Daily News has been satisfactorily used as a source elsewhere, so it should suffice here. I'm trying to avoid requesting arbitration, so what's the problem?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.58.239.178 (talk)

You add a source from a "gossip" section, that may mean it is not subject to the same fact checking and editorial control as a non-gossip news story. In any event, if you feel that your edit merits inclusion, you should discuss it and make a case on the article talk page. When your edits are disputed, that is what you are supposed to do, not immediately go to "arbitration". See WP:BRD. My attention was drawn to your edit when in an edit summary you threatened what sounds like a legal action here. Such threats are not permitted. 331dot (talk) 07:32, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You say that a certain section from the same publication may have different standards from other sections of the same publication. lol I find that rather specious, given that I previously worked as an editor for an actual publication. Dear 331dot, I am the Dean of Saint Mary's Cathedral, Limerick and set up an account (LimerickCathedral) to edit the wiki page for the Cathedral. I note that you have blocked me and understand the reasons for doing so; however, I'm very green at Wikipedia and would like to still edit the page (preferably in an official capacity, that I can pass on to my successors, etc). Can you help please? Thank you, Niall.NJS26 (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NJS26 Hello. The block I made was one that permitted you to create a new username, so that matter is resolved. You are welcome to propose edits to the article about your cathedral or other related articles on the associated article talk page, for the Cathedral that is at Talk:St Mary's Cathedral, Limerick(click those words to get there). To get the attention of other editors, you may propose edits as formal edit requests(click for instructions) but if that is too daunting(which I wouldn't blame you for thinking so) just commenting on the talk page should be seen by other editors who follow the article about your cathedral. When you post on the article talk page, you should mention your status as the Dean so you are open about your conflict of interest. If you'd like, I could assist you with making an edit request.
You must be the only individual who is using your account, and you may not allow others access to it. Any successor to your position as Dean will need to create their own account. 331dot (talk) 22:08, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hi 331dot, since you're a global renamer kindly change my username to Antila. Thanks in advance. Antila333 (talk) 14:41, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am reluctant to accept personal requests for renames, as if I did I would be inundated with requests. I would prefer that you go through Special:GlobalRenameRequest or WP:CHUS. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 15:12, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ACC[edit]

Hi 331dot. Thanks for doing those various unblock requests. When it comes to responses such as this, I feel I should point out that ACC is grossly understaffed and perennially horrendously backlogged. The ACC page currently gives a waiting time of 8 months, so it's something I would never recommend except as an absolute last resort. In most cases I would simply tell them to do what they can to find another range. I recently replied to a similar issue with some other ideas,[8] in case you're looking for ideas. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:35, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IP of User:Vc4137 a CONFIRMED SOCKPUPPET[edit]

Hello @331dot, Bbb23, and Cyphoidbomb: I Vivek Chourasia have applied for reviewing my block request. I know I have violated Wikipedia policy. I'm not s trusted user. I admit, have been warned various number of times whenever I tried escaping a block. I placed a request through Unblock Ticket Request System because I really don't have access to my Wikipedia account User:Vc4137, through which I started violating the Wikipedia policy by repeatedly recreating Vivek Chourasia article on Wikipedia. I tried to escape the block by recreating a new account from the same IP address and I have become a Sockpuppet of User:Vc4137. I agree to you what you reply to me through email that I should request from User:Vc4137, but I don't have the login access of that account. I only have access to User:AR.Dmg but don't have talk page access for placing a unblock review request. I don't want to hide anything from the community anymore, I accept my mistake I am a confirmed Sockpuppet of User:Vc4137 with various account User:VivekChourasia_143, User:VC DMG, [9]. But I want to humbly request the community to consider giving me a last chance. I will learn from editor about how to use Wikipedia regain the trust of the community.157.43.211.166 (talk) 14:02, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So you engage in sockpuppetry to tell us about your sockpuppetry. If I were you I would try hard to remember your access to your original account. However, if you cannot, you should request unblock from the last account you had access to, but not before six months from today's date and without more sockpuppetry. 331dot (talk) 14:05, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot:, But the last account which I have access to is User:AR.Dmg. but I don't have talk page access. Please do reconsider. I will not violate any Wikipedia policy. I humbly request the community157.43.211.166 (talk) 14:08, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Then you need to use WP:UTRS to make a request. But you should not do this before six months from today's date. (October 6 or thereabouts). Your chances of being unblocked before then are just about zero. You need to demonstrate that you can abide by Wikipedia guidelines against sockpuppetry, among other things. 331dot (talk) 14:11, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot:, Ok I will abide by that. But can't you consider my request to give me the access of my talk page of User:AR.Dmg. I will place a request next year only till the time I will learn Wikipedia. I assure the community I won't use Wikipedia till next year. 157.43.211.166 (talk) 14:17, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need access to your user talk page if you are not editing for six months(or longer). On October 6th or after, you can use WP:UTRS to make a request to be unblocked. And no editing means no editing- no edits to articles, no posts to talk pages, no creating other accounts. If you are detected as having edited or otherwise evaded your block, the six month timer is reset. 331dot (talk) 14:25, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot:, Then I promise you personally. I will wait till December 25. Then I will put a request for the unblock through WP:UTRS. Not before that, neither for anonymous editing or escaping the block by creating other accounts. I promise you personally. And you have to support me, when I place a request through WP:UTRS. One fellow editor who is an admin User:Cyphoidbomb, has help me while editing. but the check user admin is not is active who does his part in blocking me User:Bbb23. I will prove my patience to the community. I accept I was fragile so I tried to escape the block through new account. Thanks, and I hope you will be on Wikipedia after December 25.157.43.211.166 (talk) 14:36, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:THREESTRIKES, you are presently site banned. The biggest problem with sock operators such as yourself, is that you think that somehow you have a right to edit at Wikipedia. You don't. It's a privilege. Your behaviour is similar to someone telling you to leave a mall, but you keep trespassing because you think you're above the law. Sockpuppetry is a tremendous waste of volunteer time, and I consider it a form of theft. Whether or not you intend to return is up to you, but you will need to make a coherent, comprehensive statement that not only acknowledges the problematic behaviour that you were involved in, but that also lays out a plan for how you intend to edit constructively in the future. I don't want to see any more edits from you until then, and that includes editing while logged out to engage in chit-chat. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:00, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edits by blocked users evading a block are not allowed to stand. In addition, the source is questionable. Once the block is over or you get it removed, please discuss the matter on the article talk page. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 22:51, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, was your goal to get rid of that legal threat? If so, it's available in later revisions. When doing a revdel, you have to do an edit to remove the material and then revdel/oversight all of the edits between when it was added and when it was removed.--v/r - TP 21:15, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think I know what you are talking about but you might have to remind me :) (though I certainly welcome your advice) 331dot (talk) 21:24, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't want to be too specific about revision deleted material. But say information is introduced at Revision 5 of a page. There are 6 more revisions (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11). Then I notice that material needs to be removed, so I make another edit (revision 12) to remove the material. If I were to want to revdel that, I'd need to revdel revisions 5-11. If I revdel only 5, then 6-11 still contain the content. I can't see the logs to be sure it was you that did the revdel on that specific edit, but I'm guessing it was and then an oversighter came by to oversight it. Hope I'm making sense.--v/r - TP 21:49, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are; it was probably just an oversight by me. Thank you very much for the advice and reminder. 331dot (talk) 22:11, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Carlo Masi bio help[edit]

First of all I am not sure this is where I am supposed to talk to you about this, so if I am wrong please forgive me. I changed a lot the biography and now is almost entirely based on a biography of Carlo Masi (Ruggero Freddi) written by Strega Prize winner Walter Siti, who is one of the most important Italian writers alive. This biography is a book published by Rizzoli Libri one of the most important Italian publishers. Apart from the book I use as a source Xbiz and here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Pornography#Sources it says it is reliable. I use as a source also la Repubblica, La Stampa, Il Giornale and Corriere della Sera which are the most important Italian national news papers, very reliable and authoritative. Moreover I used Attitude (magazine), Times Higher Education, Gay Star News, Vanity Fair (magazines) and Vice (magazine) but mostly in the "media attention" part. Finally, I gave the link to the segment of the tv show where he asked his partner to marry him. Every single article I cite here is entirely on Carlo Masi (Ruggero Freddi) apart from the review of theater show he did, but even there his name is in blod and he is the main character.

As a porn star he was one of the most important and he was definitely the most important at Colt Studio Group, the company he worked for, in fact he is the only one ever named "emeritus" and he is the cover man of the 40th anniversary celebrative book of the company. Apart from the porn career his theater debut rose a lot of attention among critics and media. Moreover, media from all around the world have spoken about him when he become a professor for one of the most prestigious university in Italy, Sapienza University of Rome.

I don't know if this makes any difference but his biography is present in the Spanish (https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Masi) , Italian (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Masi), Polish (https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Masi), French(https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Masi) and Korean (https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%B9%B4%EB%A5%BC%EB%A1%9C_%EB%A7%88%EC%8B%9C) wikipedia(I didn't use any of them as source).

Can you please give me some advise on how to improve it and how I can ask to unblock it to submit it again for publication? --AlejandroLeloirRey (talk) 13:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'll let the Teahouse give you replies to your post there. 331dot (talk) 18:34, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help for editing, creating Amit Bhadana[edit]

Hi, You answered the question I put on the help desk for Draft:Amit Bhadana (youtuber) article. I do not have much knowledge of English language. Therefore, I probably made mistakes in editing the article. Therefore, I request you to contribute in the article Draft:Amit Bhadana (youtuber). Please do contribute to Amit Bhadana article. I'm afraid that's not possible. The best that you can do is identify your current account as a successor account on your user page if you haven't already("I am New3400, I previously used New340 before losing access to it."} 331dot (talk) 17:58, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Using the speedy delete template for a sandbox draft[edit]

User:Christine Kato/sandbox

Hi 331dot, Tenryuu here. We've come across each other frequently at the Teahouse. After reading the deletion policy I've utilised the {{db}} template for the first time ever and would like to know if I have used it correctly. The "draft" is currently using a lot of promotional language and references and the user shares the same name as the subject. As such I've also used the {{Autobiography}} tag.

The user has contested the deletion proposal and in doing so has claimed that they are not Christine Kato herself over at the associated talk page, at which I've pointed them to WP:USERNAME. Your guidance in this issue would be most appreciated. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 19:24, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You've used the CSD tag correctly. I went ahead and deleted it. 331dot (talk) 19:36, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot. Since you appear to be the only admin who responded to this TH question, I'm wondering if you would mind watching Young New Zealand Party for a bit. It appears some editors (who are not very familiar with Wikipedia) have been trying to "usurp" the article so that they can "turn" the article into one about a newly formed "Young New Zealand Party". There is a Draft:Young New Zealand that has been decline at AfC which is probably where this content really belongs. Anyway, I had the article on my watchlist most likely because of the TH question and it showed up during the recent spurt of editing. I think those trying to do this this probably mean well, but just are (once again) unfamiliar with Wikipedia disambiguation, etc. I've got no really comment on whether new "YNZP" is notable enough for it's own article, but if that draft is ultimately approved then it probably will need some formatting cleanup (infobox, embedded links, etc.) and there's probably COI editing going on that will need to be addressed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:26, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'll see what I can do. 331dot (talk) 09:33, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. I thought about posting something on the user talk page of that draft's creator, but haven't yet because I didn't want to inadvertently discourage them from continuing to work on the draft. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:50, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IP user vandalising pages[edit]

Hi there 331dot, I was just looking through some recent changes, and I noticed that the IP user 87.74.129.231 has vandalised the page Evelina Harfield by adding 'hi' after a sentence. I have reverted the change, but can you please give them a warning that they may be blocked on their talk page? EGL1234 (talk) 09:48, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have done so, that is sufficient. I would suggest that you not use all capital letters in such messages, as that tells the vandal that they succeeded in getting a reaction and attention from you, which is what they want, and will lead to more vandalism (the opposite of your intentions). Just revert and give a simple notice. Thanks 331dot (talk) 09:53, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A page that a user keeps remaking and blanking[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Hye-joon I'm not sure what to do here, but the same user that made this article keeps blanking it. Is this a normal occurrence or vandalism? (I'm new to Wikipedia, sorry). Imjusttherediting (talk) 15:52, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would guess from looking at it that they were writing it and simply decided that it wasn't working out. The sources really weren't there, from the looks of it and maybe the user realized it. It would have been better had they written it in their sandbox, but I don't think there is anything nefarious going on from what I see now. 331dot (talk) 17:37, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Harassment[edit]

John from Idegon is harassing me. I made an edit with a clear edit summary explaining why (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Taylor_Allderdice_High_School&diff=953495608&oldid=953350004) and not only did he immediately revert it, he then went to my talk page and issued me a warning for "disruptive" editing. 2605:A000:FFC0:D8:515A:4C29:4397:85C (talk) 14:21, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's what happens when you resume the same problematic behavior that you were blocked for. I strongly advise you to discuss the edits you wish to make on the article talk page and stop attempting to edit the article itself for now. 331dot (talk) 14:25, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Now he has reverted my other edit, which restored the school's 93-year-old motto and included three reliable sources. His absurd explanation is that he needs proof that it's still the motto TODAY.2605:A000:FFC0:D8:515A:4C29:4397:85C (talk) 14:27, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So instead of discussing these things on the article talk page or using dispute resolution(which still requires attempts at talk page discussion) you come and tell me about it. 331dot (talk) 14:39, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks, 331. Please look to the edit summaries and revdel the one prior to your last edit on the article. Also, either a rangeblock or semi protect the article? John from Idegon (talk) 14:58, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Have they used other IPs yet? I'm not an expert at range blocking so I would probably protect the article if needed. 331dot (talk) 15:00, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • Sorry....you're correct. Didn't realize you'd given him two weeks. Disregard the last. And thanks for the first. I'm sure your watching. I'm gonna be offline for a day or so right around when the block ends. John from Idegon (talk) 15:04, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion![edit]

Your speedy deletion of my page "Bangalore International Centre" Kindly read the contents before deleting it. I am an independent art writer with no interest in the page. The page is about a public institution for the welfare of art and culture. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Factedits (talkcontribs) 16:16, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You edited your user page, which is not article space or space to draft an article. If you want to draft an article, you should use Articles for Creation to do so. Your draft did little more than tell about the organization and confirm its existence. Wikipedia articles must do more, they must only summarize what independent reliable sources say about a subject, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of notability. 331dot (talk) 16:20, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the clarification![edit]

Thank you pointing out the error. That was my first attempt at creating a page and no I am not related to the organization at all. Also please do let me know where the page has to be created for my future reference. Thanks for your valuable inputs — Preceding unsigned comment added by Factedits (talkcontribs) 17:57, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Power Play Initiative[edit]

Hi there, I responded to a note you left on my Articles for Creation post on March 23 and I wanted to make sure you've seen it. I had a question regarding notable and reliable resources. If you would please provide any feedback when you have a moment it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! HowellSarahLouise (talk) 21:46, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

HowellSarahLouise Sorry, I didn't see it because you edited the archives and I don't monitor the archives(which shouldn't be edited once a discussion is moved there). Most reviewers of article drafts that are submitted are looking for at least three independent reliable sources with significant coverage of the subject. As I said before, the current sources in your draft are just announcements and press releases, which do not establish notability. Wikipedia is looking for independent sources that have chosen on their own to give significant coverage to a subject(and not just republish a press release or announcement). 331dot (talk) 23:31, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About my Conflict of Interest Declaration[edit]

I was going to make a page about my own YouTube channel (which goes by the same name as my Wikipedia account) but after declaring the COI, I scrapped the idea, realizing that it probably wouldn't get approved. The page I am currently making is completely unrelated to me, but they are a YouTube creator whom I do watch, so would that maybe count as a COI? Also, how would I go about removing that Conflict Of Interest on the page I was previously making about myself, because I am not creating that page anymore? Thanks! Frogface08 (talk) 12:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Frogface08 It is not a COI to edit about something that you have merely watched. That's how most people come to edit about a subject. If you don't intend to write about your channel, you may simply edit your user page to remove the notice, perhaps with an edit summary indicating that you will no longer edit about that subject. 331dot (talk) 12:07, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot Thanks, and also the the things that I got from the channel were statistics e.g views, subscribers etcetera. Thanks for the help!Frogface08 (talk) 12:18, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Possible LTA[edit]

Hi 331dot, I reported JewishAdmnistrato1 to UAA because they are claiming to be a Wikipedia Admin, but in looking at the edit filter log [10] along with their overall actions, I do believe this is an LTA. Can you take a look? S0091 (talk) 17:41, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This rings a bell, but I'm not exactly sure which case it might be. 331dot (talk) 17:47, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info, Mz7. I don't know how you guys keep all of these LTA's straight. It's rarely clear to me who they may be. Do you happen to know if StayatHomeBot was also Kingshowman? S0091 (talk) 18:03, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@S0091: I'm still trying to keep all of them straight; having checkuser definitely makes it a tad bit easier. I would say that in cases like this where it's really obvious someone is being deceptive or WP:NOTHERE, finding out exactly who they are isn't 100% necessary before blocking them. Mz7 (talk) 19:32, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 331dot, I have noticed that a Disruptive Anon IP vandal editor (176.88.142.166.) have been vandalising some articles and have been blocked because of this for just 48 hours. Checking his/her edit summary, languague and routine; I have come to the conclusion he is a new account of this editor that used several Sockpuppets:
1)User:RandomAccount13343413
User:RandomAccount1235423
User:KasimMejia
User:Gilesartq
User:SyriaAnalyst
User:Nabu-Kudurri-Usur Yaniv
110.168.30.203
176.88.143.228

2) If not maybe this another account
User:Gala19000
User:Hakan3400
User:Türk260000

I strongly recommend to apply a Check User because, this guy will not stop Vandalising/using SockPuppets on Wikipedia.Mr.User200 (talk) 20:30, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I might suggest that you consult a checkuser directly, using one of the methods described here. 331dot (talk) 20:41, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copying your answer from the Teahouse to FAQ[edit]

I am thinking about copying your answer from Wikipedia:Teahouse#How_to_be_an_administrator? to Wikipedia:FAQ/Administration#How_can_I_become_an_administrator?. I didn't want to do it yet because I want to get your permission before doing so. I feel the answer is very informative to be a part of the FAQ. What are your thoughts on this? Interstellarity (talk) 12:54, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay with me. 331dot (talk) 13:28, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your Teahouse response[edit]

I'm actually close to being caught up, but your response here is already archived. I think you can correct it. I suspect you meant to say something different such as "if her real name is used only in a few sources". That way anyone who might read that won't be confused.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:26, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that, I have fixed it. 331dot (talk) 23:24, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sad[edit]

I would appreciate you if you spent a time editing Draft:Amit Bhadana (yutuber). You could do it but you didn't do it. Sorry if I made a mistake.😥 Mr. Bikaneri (talk) 10:05, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Bikaneri My intention was not to make you sad, but to help you understand Wikipedia guidelines. I cannot write about a subject for which I have no knowledge of, and as I indicated, based on what you wrote, the person does not seem to meet the criteria to merit an article. You are welcome to contribute to other areas of the encyclopedia. Successfully writing a new article is the absolute hardest thing to do on Wikipedia; please see Your First Article for more information. 331dot (talk) 10:09, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usernames including a company name[edit]

I happened to see Componenta Niina Honko's unblock request. From my understanding of what they're saying, and what WP:ISU says, it would satisfy the requirements of both en.wiki and fi.wiki if they were to change their username to something like Niina Honko at Componenta. That would separate the company name from their own, and it wouldn't look like the company's called Componenta Niina Honko. It caught my eye because one of the more pleasant COI editors I've worked with is Justin at Sperry. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:47, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the "at" would make that clearer than it is now. 331dot (talk) 16:52, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COI template[edit]

Hey. Quick question - how do you put a COI template like you did on Rentonrc's talk page? Is it in Twinkle or do you have to do it manually? It would have been useful for me a few times rather than typing it out manually. Thanks, Hillelfrei talk 00:39, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hillelfrei It is in Twinkle. It has most if not all of the warning notices. 331dot (talk) 00:42, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Odd comments on my talk page[edit]

Do you mind reviewing the comments on my talk page made here? From what it seems like they're saying they are recreating drafts of globally blocked subjects and/or doing so on multiple accounts. Not sure what is going on, but figured you might be able to suss it out with your mop powers. I'm not seeing anything sort of blocks on the editors or draft pages and I'm not even sure why they picked me to come to about it. Just figured it'd probably be best to have an admin double check there's not something fishy going on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Sulfurboy (talk) 20:28, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would normally be happy to do this, but I can't give this the attention it seems to need right now. You could bring this up at WP:AN. 331dot (talk) 23:16, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Logical Man[edit]

User:Logical Man 2000 have been blocked. I have no regret for it but i feel cheated. I hadn't disrupted or vandalized anything. I belong to Boro community. I tried to add completely some facts with reliable source. User:Chaipau belongs to Ahom community. He has communal hatred for Boro people. He try to spread fake information. There are some basic facts like Bishnu Rabha was Boro but he lived with Rabha surname, Boros aristocracy called themselves Ramsa and ruled some part of Assam, Dimasa kingdom was originally known as Kachari kingdom and ruled by Ramsa or Boro, So, Chaipau want to delete all these facts and their references from wikipedia. This is why many editors argue with him. If i'll try to move America into XYZYZX then you'll surely rgue with me. This is why i argued with him. I don't want to edit wiki anymore because of his dominance. Can you please keep eye on him ? Thank you 2409:4065:E86:848C:E8FE:47:2F2:EDBC (talk) 19:33, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your advice?[edit]

Hi! I've nominated "Master Music Publications" for deletion. Now I notice that it is the same editors who have contributed to this article and the articles on MMP clients such as Ji Liu, Luka Okros, Nicholas McCarthy (pianist) and Artur Cimirro. Notable amongst these 'editors' is User:Cabin2015 whose contributions are solely about MMP and its clients. Others include Oberman and Ilovelifeandmusic. The articles on these MMP clients all include extensive lists of their publications (i.e. publications by MMP) added by these editors. I then noted that you had dealings with User:MasterMusicPublications. I am guessing that these may all be sockpuppets, but am not sure what to do next. Your comments or advice would be appreciated. Best, --Smerus (talk) 16:15, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It sounds like it would be worth opening up an SPI. 331dot (talk) 16:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Name Change[edit]

Hi, this was Nerd###2021. May I ask why NerdBoot was not allowed? I figured since it no longer said "Bot" or alluded towards the word bot that it should work. I sent a new change request this time I made it boy so that there was no problems whatsoever. But I am still curious and would like to know, so that I can better understand the reason that new name choice was unacceptable. Thanks in advance, and I didn't mean to be rude about the name changes. I was just really attached to my name so I wanted to do whatever I could to keep it somewhat similar to the original. Sorry to be a bother- NB2021 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:2E11:90E0:648B:9225:F8E7:C20B (talk) 02:24, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed your username as your most recent choice is acceptable. You clearly put "boot" because it was very close to "bot" and had already twice tried to game your username so it said "bot" in a different way. This goes against the spirit of the username policy if not the letter. 331dot (talk) 08:09, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lynn Anderson Edits[edit]

Hi there! I am sorry if I am overstepping, but I first wanted to thank you for reaching out to the user who has been arguing with me about Lynn Anderson's page. However, the user is continuing to say off-putting comments and wants to continue editing her page. Also, if the user is saying he is currently working with Lynn Anderson's estate. I was wondering what the next steps would be? I have brought this to the noticeboard page for administration, but no one has responded to me. I am hoping you or another administrator would be able to help me with regards to the incident. His comments, while not threatening, are making me uncomfortable. Thanks so much. US presidential election[edit]

Check this link https://www.veripoll.net/ she’s polling over 5% there. What polls are you using as criteria? Some polls only include Biden and Trump and therefore should not be considered valid polls when saying she needs to be polling at 5%. A candidate who is being shutout by media sources and news sites should not be unfairly given unfair criteria to meet when she isn’t given a fair chance. I request this edit be made because it gives the American people a more accurate idea of who is running instead of pandering to the two party system.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.182.66.223 (talk)

Wikipedia is not a voter guide; it does not give equal time to all candidates or all points of view. Please review the notices at the top of Talk:2020 United States presidential election as well as the discussion resulting in the consensus for more information. You will need to speak to pollsters about their criteria for including candidates in their polling; Wikipedia only summarizes them. 331dot (talk) 15:35, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A bit more about Messagesgalour[edit]

You recently blocked Messagesgalour (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). They've been continuing to log out and have complained on their IP talk page here. They seem to have used other addresses on that /24 block going back months at least making the same sorts of disruptive edits: bad plurals, removing serial commas, some other nonsense, etc, often complaining abusively in a similar manner about blocks on talk pages. At least one of the IPs in that block was blocked by NinjaRobotPirate (log) with a CheckUser note. I suspect there may be more from a larger subnet, but I haven't looked. Pinging DVdm in case they have any more to say as well. Is there anything more called for here, like maybe a range block? Is it worth posting at AN? Anyway, I just thought I'd give a heads up. Go Vote Miami[edit]

Thanks again, and happy editing! Jonscottcorp (talk) 00:41, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jonscottcorp I would advise you to return the article to draft space; I do not believe it would survive an Articles for Deletion discussion, and could even be speedy deleted as an advertisement. 331dot (talk) 00:55, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

331dot I created a simple article and then I was told I did not have enough information. I had a simple one like U.S._Vote_Foundation and Nonprofit_VOTE . I was told it would be deleted. I was told to keep adding information and articles etc.... Now you mention it may look like an advertisement because of all the additional info I added. Please explain what needs to be done to publish without being deleted? The two wiki pages I mentioned above were no different than the original one I created and was told it wont be published and I need to add more details. This is confusing.. JonScottCorpJonscottcorp (talk) 01:05, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jonscottcorp I think that you did not interpret the advice you were given correctly. You were not told that you didn't have enough information, you were told that the article should only summarize what independent reliable sources say about the organization. That would not include its mission, goals, what they do, and anything else the organization says about itself. Wikipedia is not interested in what the organization says about itself, only in what others say about it. For example, The Islander piece that discusses the founder of the organization is not acceptable as a source, as it is the founder telling what the organization she started does. Wikipedia only wants to know what others see the organization as doing. Please see WP:PRIMARY for more information. Again, I strongly suggest you return the article to draft space. 331dot (talk) 01:29, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I will add that it is not usually a good argument to cite other similar articles as a reason for yours to exist or a reason for you to write it a certain way. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project where people do what they can when they can, it is possible for inappropriate articles or article content to go undetected, even for years. We can only address what we know about. It could be that the articles you are using as a guide are also inappropriate. 331dot (talk) 01:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

331dot I understand your point. What I did was read the requirements/guidelines and in addition looked at other articles making sure I am keeping the desired standards & requirements. I was then told multiple times to keep adding information. I moved it back to draft for now and will follow your advice before republishing. Thank you jonscottcorpJonscottcorp (talk) 01:52, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

331dot , I removed the urls and references written by the organization and removed verbiage which may have sound promotional. Is there other information I should remove and what are your recommendations for other edit before moving to live article? Also, editor, orangemike has blocked my jonscottcorp username so I created jonscott239 to communicate. The JonScott is 1st and middle name and I added corp because jonscott was taken and for it to match my email however that jonscottcorp username is not connected to a business, or promotion oir the article. jonscottcorp is just personal user handle. jonscott29Jonscott239 (talk) 17:56, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Jonscott239 The Islander piece in the draft is mostly an interview with the leader of the organization. That would be considered a primary source and does not establish notability. I have done some looking and I regret to say that I don't believe this organization has the significant independent coverage needed to meet WP:ORG. You don't have to go by my word, as it is just my opinion, and I welcome you getting other opinions, but I don't see a pathway forward. 331dot (talk) 19:30, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the info on getting in touch with the person who deleted my draft page. As i mentioned i was directed to do so in a message regards it's recovery. I was on "user lis's" talk page but unlike your own there is no link to "talk" to the user or to open a message. I know this is trivial basic basic user stuff, but to some these parameters are just odd and confusing. I have requested "officially", i think anyway, the recovery of the deleted page ut it would still be good to have some indiaction if where I'm going wrong on contacting the user. Much appreciated.

Questions to the user who deleted my sandbox :) Hi, ok so i find it all very bewildering and not an easy place to navigate or to simply find an answer. Might just be me of course. I had my sandbox deleted with an article i was preparing and due to the current situation I left it alone hoping to get back to it. When I did, it was gone. I tried to copy back in the content to start up again but was wasked to contact a "user" Liz who deleted it. I cannot find anyway of askign that person to review their deletion and reinstall it. Help please, i cannot find any way of getting in touch with the person. Thanks

Engblu Hello and welcome to the Teahouse. Every user has a user talk page for communication with them, and it is usually linked to in their signature at the end of their posts.(for example, yours is linked to in your signature above). It is also linked to in places like page edit histories and many logs, including deletion logs like the one you copied the text from above. If you click the word "talk" in that message, it will take you to that user's user talk page where you can ask them directly about your question. 331dot (talk) 14:20, 19 June 2020 (UTC) I'll also link to that user's talk page here: User talk:Liz. 331dot (talk) 14:21, 19 June 2020 (UTC) Hello, Steve. disruptive editing accusation[edit]

What do you mean by 'disruptive editing' when you have clearly not read the IMPROVEMENT I provided pro bono? There's a reason academics and right minded people generally disregard, deride, laugh away, articles quoted or cited from Wikipedia. It is because of the laughable and ridiculous statements, claims conjectures and sometimes pain fiction which mire, distort, inflate and puff up pertinent facts or well thought out statements. In the case we are both tugging over, which meanders from pertinent matters that most readers, frankly, will like to discover. Not the tabloid fiction spawned from an imaginative mind with itchy fingers and a keyboard at arms length. You should be grateful that someone has taken the time to trim out the OBVIOUS chaff. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoserox (talkcontribs) 17:01, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zoserox It is completely true that Wikipedia is not an academic or scholarly work. It does not claim to be and those who say it is not scholarly are absolutely correct. Wikipedia is, in essence, a content aggregator that summarizes what independent reliable sources state. Another editor initially removed your edit as you did not provide sufficient explanation and changed a quotation. They attempted to discuss it with you but you did not reply. On Wikipedia, changes are made by consensus. Please discuss your edit with the other editor. 331dot (talk) 17:38, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You automatically threaten to block my edit just because the other person said so. You seem not to have taken the elementary step of examining the 'disruptive editing' you accuse me of doing whiles benignly asserting the position of the other as 'valid'. Well, it is a sham and mockery to call wikipedia a 'content aggregator' if you 'guys' restrict the content to what you think is worthy without some belief that you are the only ones who probably 'know everything in the world'. How laughably funny and it just adds to the catalogue of excuses for deriding wikipedia content. And yes, I have made financial contributions to Wikipedia in the past, now I see what a bad decision I made if it was going to fund the activities of self-important know-it-alls. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoserox (talkcontribs) 18:32, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Zoserox I did not say either of you were correct, only that your reversions were done without consensus. Once an edit is in dispute, you need to calmly and without personal attacks discuss the issue. I'm a bit surprised that a scholarly person would resort to personal attacks when I have been nothing but calm and civil. Thanks for contributing to the Foundation that operates the computers Wikipedia is on, but doing so (or withholding support) does not affect day to day activities here. 331dot (talk) 18:47, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Durhamtravel[edit]

Hi! Thanks for your action regarding Durhamtravel. I have proposed a page created, Luke_Allan_Holmes for deletion, but was wondering if that was the correct thing to do given that their contribs were clearly promotional? Appreciate your thoughts:) -OXYLYPSE (talk) 13:18, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I speedy deleted it and closed the AFD. 331dot (talk) 13:25, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Asking permission[edit]

Do I have permission to revert the 2605 user’s latest racism-erasing reversion?--BaseFree (talk) 14:30, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've done so. 331dot (talk) 14:31, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I wasn’t sure where it would put me if I had done so. I was afraid of being reported for 3RR by 2605 as retaliation--BaseFree (talk) 14:35, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help in Unblocking[edit]

Dear sir, Hope you find this in the best of your health. The IP address from where I am editing is 192.168.1.4. I really don't know about open proxies and web hosts. I am an individual and seriously respect the Wiki's norms. And Sir I remain entangled in the lengthy procedure and long textual matter giving understanding of this thing. Please help me out sir. Thanks.--NoorAlavi (talk) 11:46, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NoorAlavi I think that the IP address you gave is that of your home network(or that of wherever you are) and not the one you actually use to connect to the internet- but if you could post here, you are not being affected by any blocks. 331dot (talk) 11:50, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sir, When I messaged you there were 5 notices and now the notice for the blockage is not appearing. In that message the blocked IPs range was mentioned. Now I couldn't get that one. The person who blocked it was Jon Kolbert (meta.wikimedia.org). My wireless LAN IP is 192.168.1.1. Beyond this I am totally blank. --NoorAlavi (talk) 12:04, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sir, I have got my ISP's IP address 117.198.192.204--NoorAlavi (talk) 12:54, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NoorAlavi That IP address is not blocked, at least right now. As I said, the mere fact that you can post on this page means that you are not being affected by a block at least at the moment you are posting. It is possible that your ISP gives its customers a floating IP that can change, and that sometimes it changes to one that is blocked. I can't give any more information than that unless you are actually blocked. If this is a recurring problem, you could request an IP block exemption by following the instructions at WP:IPECPROXY. 331dot (talk) 14:57, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Barnstar of Diligence
I am reading some of your comments on how Wikipedia is not here for company/organization promotion. I don't believe a lot of folks know that about Wikipedia. I understand it, but your recent explanation should be the 1st pop up of Wikipedia - especially for new users. It's very pertinent information. Thank you for your footprint of immediate and relevant knowledge!! Roccie ;) 13:25, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Hey 331dot. I am not sure what edits you added. You put some general sanction thing on my page; were you just warning me about what to do or what not to do. Or did I violate one of the sanctions? I haven't reverted any edits, as I have not posted anything since the page I was adding was taken down. Thanks, WaltJsmith (talk) 19:42, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WaltJsmith It is only a notification for informational purposes, so you are aware of the restrictions. 331dot (talk) 19:47, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot Okay. So, with the 1RR it's okay to repost so long as it has been 24 hours? Or should I go through a different process. The rules are a little confusing. Thanks for your help btw.
1RR is not an entitlement to revert the same post every 24 hours; that would be edit warring. If you seek to restore an edit that was reverted, you should begin a talk page discussion with the other editors involved instead of reverting. 331dot (talk) 20:06, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
the entire page was deleted... what's the best method to put it back up; I believe i fixed notability and verification issues. Also, I another established editor agrees to work with me and post it is that okay? They would obviously review it themselves and have no COI. Thanks WaltJsmith (talk) 20:13, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I didn't realize you were referring to the deleted article. You would need to either speak to the deleting administrator to see if they would be willing to restore it or visit WP:REFUND to see if others would restore it. 331dot (talk) 20:29, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Advice relating to new articles[edit]

I strongly agree with the sentiment expressed in this edit. I'm carrying that thought a little further with User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Newbie_and_IP_edits_should_be_vetted_delayed_before_they_go_live my post in this section. I wonder if you agree? I'm tempted to start editing that advice but wouldn't mind a little moral support.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:55, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that in general I agree. I know I didn't get started by creating an article on my first try. I'm sure that there are people out there who take the time to read up on how to create an article and work carefully to make a good one, and succeed at doing so, but I think that's rare. I'm not sure what the balance between those two sides should be; I'm hesitant to say that new users should be prohibited from creating articles but I don't think they should be encouraged to just dive into it, either. 331dot (talk) 00:21, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot, I wouldn't push for complete prohibition as I can imagine exceptions. Rare, but exceptions nonetheless. however our current advice is mere lip service to the suggestion that you should try something else first. I'd like to find a better balance. At a minimum, the advice to someone wanting to create the new articles should make it clear they should work on other things first. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:30, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I do think that refocusing our introductions might help at least a little. 331dot (talk) 13:40, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, 331, I hate it when people block users a few seconds before me. I send Bishzilla to see them, you know! Anyway, "Lemme ruin your account", I think, not "in your account". See also filter log for attempted vandalism. Bishonen | tålk 09:31, 1 July 2020 (UTC).[reply]

This Auto Blocks Are Beginning To Kill Me Slowly[edit]

This is the third time this year my account is being blocked due to an IP address concerns. Although this blocks are temporary (5 minutes or shorter) & the mistakes auto correct quickly. I am getting mentally fatigued I have requested the IP block exempt every time this auto blocks occur & each time I get the “oh well since the blocks are relatively short I don’t really need this flag” but I wouldn’t lie to you I am getting really really depressed about this. Just right now as I was about editing i get hit with yet another auto block please can you help me out as I am losing my mind about this IP related blocks. Please help me. Celestina007 (talk) 19:49, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have given you a month long exemption for the short term; for something longer term you will need to contact a checkuser, see WP:IPEC. 331dot (talk) 19:59, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot, thank you. I’m eternally grateful for this. The block has been lifted & I can now edit normally. Celestina007 (talk) 20:05, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

From5Apr20. Response to your message of earlier today.[edit]

From5Apr20 (talk) 15:34, 5 July 2020 (UTC) User:From5Apr20 15:19, 5 July 2020 (UTC) Thank you User:331dot ! I now included a draft of a new article in my sandbox. Please take a look there and kindly let me know if and how I can contribute it to Wikipedia. Notice that I have no conflict of interest with the person sketched in the biographical profile (he is neither a relative of mine nor my mentor or anything like that) .[reply]

From5Apr20. Response to your last message.[edit]

From5Apr20 (talk) 18:24, 5 July 2020 (UTC) Thanks for the comments 331dot. I'll improve the reliability of the article by adding more independent sources. I don't necessarily want to take more of your time, however, unless you are available. Where should I submit the drafted article, when ready (it will take some more time to get the sources)? Who takes responsibility for accepting or rejecting a submitted contribution? I guess there is some appreciable degree of arbitrariness in the editorial process, at least judging from the varied quality (and reliability) of similar articles. On the other hand, I understand that the Talk page associated with each accepted article with the open discussion from Wikipedians should allow an overall balance over time. Best regards. From5Apr20[reply]

From5Apr20 You may submit it using Articles for Creation. Once you do, it will be placed in a category monitored by editors that choose drafts to review. There is no particular order in which drafts are reviewed, but there are usually many hundreds waiting (currently there is about 2300 drafts waiting). 331dot (talk) 18:53, 5 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you you the assistance![edit]

ACC Queue length[edit]

The ACC queue is practically zero on a daily basis. I saw on an unblock that you noted it could take months. Just an FYI. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 20:59, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AmandaNP Thanks for the information. I was previously advised (see the "ACC" header above) that ACC is severely backlogged and understaffed(though I assume that is no longer the case). 331dot (talk) 23:52, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it definitely was at one point, some while back it turned around for the better :) -- Amanda (aka DQ) 00:03, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Joe[edit]

Just a hunch, I think. :) 331dot (talk) 09:10, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

Please help me understand. Whomever wrote that page, put a lot of misleading and not relevant information about unrelated companies. WMA which was sold to Citigroup in 1991. There are a ton of factual errors in what is there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:200:F420:1947:B29B:BC81:786C (talk) 20:39, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources state about article subjects. If those sources are incorrect, you need to take that up with them. Your edit removed a great deal of cited information; I would suggest discussing your proposed changes on the article talk page. If you have independent reliable sources to support your proposed changes, please offer them. 331dot (talk) 20:54, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Advice for newcomers[edit]

Hello,
You are receiving this message because you are invited to take part at Wikipedia:Advice for newcomers where you can provide advice that will help our newcomers in the future. It is not a discussion forum, just a place where you say what advice would be helpful to our future editors. I would like to get at least 100 editors to take part in this so please feel free to spread the word to other editors as well. I look forward to seeing what you say to newcomers. Edible Dee[edit]

Well, what do you know, this person turned up yet again, this time as a user page. She's blocked and I've also salted the name so the topic can't be created in article space. Deb (talk) 13:48, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
