Monica Raymund
[edit]Hi Sophie, I'm sure you are not aware of this, but you completely screwed up the edit on the Monica Raymund article. She did not "come out" as being Bisexual on Twitter recently, she simply mentioned that she is. The article that you used to reference it even says so. You posted content based on a headline and not the entire article. On an article that is protected by BLP policy, this is a huge mistake, but you already know this. --50.148.165.229 (talk) 06:50, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
[edit]It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Wiki Loves Pride 2014
[edit]Hi 97198. In case you are not aware, there is an upcoming campaign to improve coverage of LGBT-related topics on Wikipedia, culminating with an international edit-a-thon on June 21. See Wiki Loves Pride 2014 for more information. If you are interested, you might consider creating a page for a major city (or cities!) near you, with a list of LGBT-related articles that need to be created or improved. This would be a tremendous help to Wikipedia and coverage of LGBT culture and history. Thanks for your consideration, and please let me know if you have any questions! --Another Believer (Talk) 16:10, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

I was just looking at Template:Did you know nominations/Romeo and Juliet (2013 Broadway play) and wondering why you chose the original hook over ALT2, which I think would get the most views.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:39, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
- @TonyTheTiger: Just saw your message, sorry. I chose not to use the hook with the image since, as you've probably noticed, there is a large backlog of hooks with images on T:TDYK. In my opinion it's better to run hooks in the first position when they have images that feature the primary subject of the article, rather than the alt you suggested. If there weren't such a large backlog of articles with more relevant images, it would've been fine. 97198 (talk) 09:13, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- I meant that even though you opted not to use the picture, why didn't you use that hook (I.e., removing the word pictured) since it had connection to two stars that might draw eyes on the subject.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 10:12, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Complications with the FP's FAC
[edit]Due to an extensive (and in my opinion, excellent) copy-edit by a GOCE member, I want to check in with everyone who voted on the FAC. Seeing as you seem to pump out 90 DYKs a week, I'm sure you're occupied with other things. However, if you can find the time, would you be willing to look through the article again and either confirm your vote or withdraw it with comment? If not, that's perfectly okay. A barnstar for you!/How do you do it?
[edit]The Tireless Contributor Barnstar | ||
For your unbelievably high amount of DYKs and GAs, and the quality of the articles you make in general. You're one of the finest Wikipedians we have! Corvoe (speak to me) 13:50, 17 July 2014 (UTC) |
To add on to that, I still have your talk page on watch from one of our conversations, and I've been noticing the absurd amount of DYKs and GAs in a ridiculously short amount of time.
I've promoted exactly one article to GA and exactly one list to FL. I honestly don't understand how you're able to do as many as you do, let alone so fast. Any tips? And keep up the good work! Corvoe (speak to me) 13:50, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, Corvoe! I don't really have any tips except to write about what interests you - which it looks like you're already doing. :) There are a lot of busier editors out there though, and to be honest I have no idea how they do it! 97198 (talk) 02:54, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Sure thing! I definitely am, but I'm just bewildered I guess. I'm sure there are some editors that do 100 GAs a month or something ridiculous, but that doesn't take away from how impressive your workload is! Also, in regards to your guestbook comment, it's seeming like the review should be wrapping up soon. Gotta sort out a few issues Nikkimaria has, but after that, I think it'll be good to go. I'm so excited! Taking a film that didn't have an article at the start of the year and getting it to FA in five months would be mind blowing for me, especially since I haven't contributed to other Good/Featured articles. Corvoe (be heard) 04:49, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Good to hear that it will hopefully be wrapping up soon. It's one thing to take an already decent article and improve it to GA, but to write an article completely from scratch and ultimately take it to FAC is another thing entirely, so you deserve some serious kudos for that! 97198 (talk) 05:07, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! But don't sell yourself short. Your work is very much kudo-worthy. In fact, it's barnstar worthy :P Corvoe (be heard) 13:07, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive
[edit]Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!
TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.
If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.
At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.
As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup
[edit]Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!
As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:
For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.
For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).
The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

Nice work on Shafts. I followed a couple of links from there and ended up at another early feminist, Frances Swiney, which at first sight looked reasonable although completely uncited. But on closer inspection it turned out that it had been copied from the ODNB, therefore I had to delete almost all of it and rewrite what little remains. So if you're looking for something to work on next that might be a worthy candidate. Eric Corbett 16:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup
[edit]
WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers. Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges. Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:04, 15 September 2014 (UTC) To receive future GA Cup newsletter, please add your name to our mailing list.

Tim Frazier DYK
[edit]Hello, I was hoping that my Tim Frazier DYK nomination would get a bit more exposure after I received some early replies, but it seems like the conversation has been dead for more than a several days. I'm worried the article will get somewhat old and ineligible to appear on the front page, so could you please look over it again? You notified me that I didn't include some of the info on the hook in the article itself, and I have fixed it up. Thank you. Temple of the Mousy (talk) 21:25, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Imaged dropped from DYK?
[edit]Just curious, why was the image dropped from the DYK nom? Template:Did you know nominations/Calitoxin I'm new at this... Thank you. —Gaff ταλκ 05:11, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Gaff, as you'll see on the main page, every set of seven DYK hooks has only one picture, which means only 1 in 7 promoted hooks runs with a picture. Since the proportion of nominations with pictures is much higher than that, some of them have to run without pictures. It's basically a judgment call when it comes to choosing which hooks should take the top "pictured" spot. Personally, I try to choose hooks where the picture looks especially good at a small size and the picture is of the bolded topic itself. In this case, if the bolded article had been Calliactis parasitica rather than the toxin, I would have promoted it with the picture. Hope that helps! 97198 (talk) 05:48, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

P.S. Krøyer
[edit]Hi 97198. Thanks for taking an interest in P. S. Krøyer's paintings of Marie and helping out with the DYK. I was however surprised to see you had moved the original "P.S. Krøyer's paintings of Marie" to "P. S. Krøyer's paintings of Marie" inserting a space between Ktøyer's initials. I can assure that both in English and Danish, the usual style is "P.S. Krøyer". Just do a Google search on the name and you'll see what I mean. I realize there are two schools of thought on this (see [2]). I tend to go along with general usage for specific cases which is also the line Wikipedia seems to take. See Vote: spaces after periods between initials? (26/32). As you are interested in art, I hope we'll have the opportunity of collaborating in the future.--Ipigott (talk) 12:13, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Ipigott. I was going by MOS, which states here which states that initials should usually be written with a full stop and space in between. I thought it was a relatively uncontroversial move, but if you think "P.S. Krøyer" is the normal convention then maybe it should be moved back. Google comes up with a lot of results using "P.S. Krøyer" but also lots with "PS Krøyer" so maybe there is no true consensus. As you are much more knowledgeable on the subject than I am, I'm happy to defer to your judgment in this case. Thanks for letting me know. 97198 (talk) 12:28, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back so quickly. I don't think we need bother about this particular case too much. In any case, there's a redirect and we would now need to call on an administrator to sort it out anyway. But in future, especially in dealing with Danish names, it's probably better not to put spaces between the initials as many well-known figures are commonly referred to with their (unspaced) initials rather than their first names. For example, in Denmark Hans Christian Andersen is invariably H.C. Andersen. In English too, many names seem to be written without spaces: even Encyclopaedia Britannica prefers J.K. Rowling (unlike Wikipedia) as she does herself on her website and in all her publications. Normally search engines can cope with variations but there is an enormous red link problem on Wikipedia. Unless names containing two or more initials are backed up up by redirects, they invariably lead to red links requiring attention, not to mention orphan templates on new articles.--Ipigott (talk) 13:27, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll keep that in mind in the future. 97198 (talk) 14:07, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Tobin Armbrust
[edit]The article Tobin Armbrust has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unable to find sources that would pass WP:GNG. Only ones provided are non-significant coverage, or primary sources. All articles and sources available are just the inclusion of his name in lists of producers. He has been a part of notable movies, but he himself doesn't appear to meet the criteria for general notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
(I've prodded only once-twice before. If you can find something I will be super happy and review at DYK, but as it stands I can't help the article) PanydThe muffin is not subtle 16:56, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

[edit]I hate having editing conflicts when preparing DYK hook sets. That's why I use the {{inuse}} tag, which you can see is still there if you look at Prep2. I only discovered the edit conflict when I tried to save my completed set. I will transfer my hooks etc. to Prep6. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:15, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Cwmhiraeth: Very sorry! I hope I haven't caused you too much inconvenience. 97198 (talk) 10:21, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- The first time it happened to me, many months ago, I didn't know what to do because I had already archived all the nominations in the set. Now I realise more how the system works, and today it was relatively simple to transfer the hooks to Prep6 and no harm was done. It would be awkward if all the prep areas were full however.
