Re that new article - there's a few problems with it.

You need to provide more references to reliable sources, plural.

There's several reasons; firstly, you need to show "notability", which on Wikipedia means showing "significant coverage in reliable sources".

Secondly, readers need to be able to 'check the facts' - everything needs to be 'verifiable'. Anything that isn't can be removed by other editors. If the information can't be backed up by a reliable source, it doesn't belong on Wikipedia.

Thirdly, when there is only one source it's often hard to avoid copyright violations and/or close paraphrasing. For example,

Source: The Armillary The Clubs conceived, planned and together with other organisations funded the Armillary in response to the Council's request several years ago for Millennium projects that had a direct relationship with time. The Armillary is in the form of an historical timepiece, was designed to be durable for many more years

Your article: the Rotary Club conceived, planned and, together with other organisations, funded the armillary in response to the local Council's earlier request for millennium projects that had a direct relationship with time. The armillary was designed to be durable for years to come

You also need to take care to maintain a neutral point-of-view. For example, you shouldn't say that it is a popular feature of the town and provide an iconic focus unless you can support it with really good third-party references (such as newspaper articles or books) saying that; and in fact, it's probably best to leave those things out altogether. Just stick to facts.

I hope this will be useful advice, and that you'll be able to tweak it somewhat. I suggest the first thing is to worry about any copied text, because Wikipedia is very strict about that sort of thing. It's kinda hard but... you need to both a) have solid references supporting all the claims, but b) put it in your own words :-)

That's great; seriously; much better, and better than about 99.9% of new articles.

You asked for tips, so here goes;

• First suggestion is, clear this talkpage down. A lot of the stuff above is outdated and irrelevent, and doesn't look super-great; and this is your talk page. You could just delete the outdated stuff (that's perfectly OK!) or, maybe neater, create User talk:A P Monblat/Archive 1 and cut all the old stuff out, and paste it into there. (Archiving your talk can also be automated, but that's probably something for later).
• New articles like Sutton armillary can be featured on the main page of wikipedia under "Did You Know". It's not as hard as it looks; Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Nomination. It only needs to be less than 7 days old, and at least 1500 characters of 'prose' (I think it might be a little short right now), and it needs good references. If your DYK attempt is successful, it'll appear on the main page of Wikipedia for hours, and thus be seen by many thousands of people :-)
• Using 'citation' templates for references makes things look a lot nicer; I did a couple, see [1]. For the possibilities, see {{Citation}}
• Try to wikilink relevent items...but don't over-do it. For example - I would remove the link to England from "Sutton in Greater London, England" because it's such a common term, and anyone clicking the "Sutton" link will see which country it is in; however, I would link Rotary Club.
• You could add an 'infobox' - those boxes at the top right of lots of articles. I think the most appropriate is probably {{Sculpture}}. If you see the example there, you can basically fill in whatever info you can give about it. A nice touch is that, if you can give the geo coordinates, it'll automatically link to it on a map. An easy(ish) way to find them is, look at the article on Sutton, click where it has 'coordinates' (this), and look on Google Maps or something, to work out the exact coords of this piece.

Perfect. I just added the coords with this edit, and it looks good; if you click the coordinate on the top right of the article and choose e.g. "google maps' or whatever, it shows a location just off "Carlshalton Road", close to Sutton police station. Great. And glad to see you're using named citations too!

I suggest you submit it for DYK, because the process takes a while. It doesn't have to be 'perfect' or even exactly ready; when someone (eventually) checks it over, they'll tell u anything that needs fixing or improving, so you might as well get the ball rolling. You can continue to work on it, of course.

Also because it must be submitted within 7 days of creation. Once it's been submitted, time doesn't matter.

As regards further improvement - I often find it is helpful to look at a really high-quality article on a similar topic. Not that you'd expect to get it to that level, but it gives ideas, and if it's a "featured article" you can be fairly confident they're doing things in a really good way. In this case, I suggest you check Fountain of Time.

How did this article come to your attention? Was it through the DYK process? Regarding sources, the fact that this artwork was put in place before the Internet had got into its stride, means there is less on the web than there might be if it had been more recent. Yes, I regularly check the articles which are bound to appear on the main page, mostly for problems with the hook (the DYK line on the main page), but also for lack of notability, copyright problems, ... Rubber Soul reference

According to WP:ALBUM/SOURCE, AllMusic genre sidebars are not recommended to be used as references for genres. The page states "do not use genre sidebar" on the 'Back issues' column for AllMusic. Doesn't the article as it is currently, mix up genre and style. Overall it is album in the pop rock genre. Folk rock is merely one of the styles deployed on the album. Unterberger did not say the *genre* was folk rock in terms. The Beatles were never part of the folk rock scene as say Dylan was. They merely did a few tracks on Rubber Soul in that *style*. I'm contacting you, because you have previously edited the Epsom article. I've been working on the page over the past few months and I am now thinking about submitting it for WP:GA. From the pattern of your edits, you seem to be familiar with the north Surrey - south London area. I wondered if you'd be willing to take a look at the Epsom article and let me know your thoughts as to how I could improve it before nomination?
