Allegations of the nature you added must be supported by strong reliable and verifiable sources. In their absence, the material will be removed. correct. you have been the de facto coordinator. i'm basically trying to accomplish two things: 1- make it easier for newcomers to the project to know who to contact and 2- more importantly, as per the wikiproject guide, give some people responsibility for the administrative tasks involved in maintaining and growing the project. i know i'm new to the project so i hope i'm not speaking "out of turn" it's just that i'm eager to see the project grow. depending on how you feel, i'd like to put the following up on the project's talk page for consideration:

To coordinate the "inner workings" of our WikiProject, I propose the implementation of a coordinator department to be responsible for the maintenance tasks of the WikiProject. Therefore, the proposal is as follows: Establishment of a coordinator department with 1 Lead Coordinator and a multiple Coordinators to each serve terms of 12 months. Any member of the project can volunteer to be a coordinator. The coordinator page (to be created) will have a section where members can submit their name for consideration, and other members can indicate whether they support or oppose. After a set period of time (2 weeks?), a coordinator will indicate whether the user has been accepted. At the end of the term, coordinators can resubmit their name for another term. There is no limit to the number of coordinators. The Coordinators will be responsible for: Publication of the project newsletter. Be the contacts for the WP Council. Maintenance of the project templates. Update the project to-do list. Maintenance of the membership list. Initiation of events such as "assessment drives" Maintain the Collaboration of the Week All other "maintenance tasks" that the project requires.

We have accomplished a tremendous amount with WPNJ even if things aren't hopping, but I agree that a re-evaluation of our progress can help fill in even more. We've filled in articles for every (or nearly every) municipality, state and federal legislator, school district, public high school, etc. Your efforts on evaluating articles has been a tremendous help. My only suggested change might be to invite any other WPNJ members who might be interested in serving as coordinators, on a more the merrier basis. Please let me know what we can do to reignite WPNJ. Chronic fatigue syndrome is doomed

I'm done trying to build consensus with that entry --- there are editors with strong narrow POV who do not know the literature and they intend to keep their empire. Example: I attempted to build consensus on who are experts, using the MD's and researchers from the CDC as a starting point, as well as textbooks (Books targeted for clincial use), and they delete without discussion this material. For well known and published articles they deem them to be "unreliable" although the CDC uses the same articles in the same journals...

I trust someone will escalate this issue to someone that can do something. Is there a place to registered complaints against a crew such as this?

I have looked at the article and you are justified in your concerns. Using WP:3O is a good way to start the process of getting some outside input. With respect Alansohn why is Lassesen justified in calling me and other editors unknowledgeable, with an "empire" and all of other attacks he makes on us here and on talk pages, like saying people that do not agree on him have a pro psychological POV? I do not have any relation on CFS, I am not a patient a doctor and I do not even like psychology! Lassesen tho is a well-known internet activist, he said so on his talk, who opposes proven treatments for CFS and promotes alternative medicine remedies. That is great, I think it is good he is so active and i respect him and his views, but it is not how we write medical articles at WP, it is not a place for activism and experimental research.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a medical article, it should be most based from peer review secondary sources in major journals. I have tried explain this. Self published books and obscure primary sources from journals which do not exist any more are not best sources for medical articles.

I am thinking, Lassesen has alot of knowledge and alot to say on CFS, but i am hoping, he will try and learn more about Wikipedia guidelines and not be so confrontationing. Hell, My addition to Cherlottetown Rural Highschool:

The annual hackey sac competition is very well received from the raiders. They hack using a "Raider Sac." This sport can be very brutal and has resulted in 5 injuries in the past 7 tournaments. The raiders often challenge students of Colonel Gray High School to participate. The Rural and Gray has had a long rivalry and Raiders often refer to it as "The Gay." This is shown as disrespectful. Agree with dumping poop section on your user page

It seems like it wouldn't be hard to create a tool reverting any edit using "poop" from an anonymous IP. (And add to that "penis", "gay", "fuck" -- where the word isn't otherwise already used in article.)

I created the anti-vandalism "Piano non troppo" account to save my serious work from vindictive vandals. I discovered that I enjoyed the anti-vandalism process. In fact, it made me feel more a part of the community. My other accounts, with hundreds of hours of painstaking work, got no barnstars. The rate at which those accounts have edits reverted is ten times as high as Piano non troppo's. Apparently other editors recognize my "worth" in part by what other community service I've done. Or perhaps what other edits they can readily evaluate. So, strangely, the anti-vandalism patrol has had unanticipated positive consequences for me. And, maybe, somehow (I see Wikipedia as a social experiment) society is indicating what about my work it values. Less my expertise, than my social participation. I have provided a neutral and factually backed addendum to the delta lodge page..... However i find my slef under due arrest. It seems every time i edit i get deleted, i just feel that if your going to provide a nuetral and objective explanation of the subject you should include all facts, as i have and provded sources. I also concur wi the sentiment that the delta lodge subject matter is not notable seing as how they are a defunct organization (not in good standing at the university of north texas... this organization is not mandated by any governing body. The statement that they are a "fraternity in good standing at the university of north texas is fraudulent. They posses no charter/mandate; they hold sparse residence at best, and were relocated by the city due to alarming concerns. To reiterate i fing the delta lodge page to be an apologists rendition with not factual evidence to back it up... it contains claims that are unfound and jingoistic at best. In Wikipedia, claims require reliable and verifiable sources. Without sources supporting your claims they were removed. If you can find a reliable source that supports the claim that a cameltoe is clearly visible and is objectionable in a PG-13 film, I will have no objection. Further, because of your actions, a Google search now produces his name and a page that states his profile was removed because you did not feel that he was a notable person. This statement and the posting of such a "flag", constitutes Defamation of Character, and because it is in written form in a public Doman, it also constitutes Slander under both United States and International law (case law and codified statutes).

I will allow you 72 hours to rectify this issue without a demand for compensation for my client's deleted intellectual property. Otherwise my firm will most certainly take appropriate action both against you, and against Wikipedia itself for allowing your actions. If necessary, we will apply for subpoenas to compel Wikipedia to provide your name and complete personal identifiers for appropriate court enforcement action.

hi i'm not sure how else to leave you a comment. I am a teacher who has assigned the book "the Winter King" to my freshman students. They have a test tomorrow morning on it so to catch who didn't read and instead relied on Wiki to "read" it I played around with some of the details. Another administator emailed me and promised to leave it as is until tomorrow morning when he/she will revert it back to its originial content, which I had also planned on doing once the test was given. First, I am not "Frank Prewitt". I do have a spine, and if I was, I would say I was, and not have to deal with the inequities of activist and his/her or its constant barrage of unsubstantiated claims. Like you, I want a fair and true article. Despite my abilities or inabilities according to activist to write such I have really given up. Obviously activist has some type of vendetta against Frank Prewitt. He/she or it continues to subtly change wording to honestly discredit anything and everything I edit. If he or she is so angry they should just call Prewitt (listed in the Anchorage, Alaska phone book)and tell them there feelings instead of blatantly editing in a liable fashion.I have made the section as unbiased as possible given the left leaning opinions of ADN (Anchorage Daily News). In reality the section has all be references and has edited by experienced editors and contributors like yourself, so I see no need for activist continued editing/whining.In my opinion articles are supposed to be fair and balanced stating the good and bad and giving the ultimate reader a real perspective. The article I originally wrote has all of that...not continued "negative press" that has yet to solidify into anything wikipedia worthy, but is hearsay and speculation, as activist continues to edit. I have not idea what kinda of "reality" ACTIVIST believes the Frank Prewitt section should aspire too? I understand and except your edits in regards to Prewitt's book. Point taken, understood. Need your help

I don't want to engage in an edit war with someone, but I feel like the change that I've made to Ohio High School Athletic Association‎ is completely justified, whereas EagleFan doesn't think so. I don't think that listing all high school state champions in every single sport (regardless of the state) is notable. If someone wants to find out then they go to the OHSAA website, not the Wikipedia page on the organization itself. If anything, the list should be its own separate article (at best). Wasting 80,699 kb of space on an article lags the servers, slows down the page load time and for what? To read about non-notable high school achievements. I have been attempting to update Callum Ferguson's nickname to reflect his actual nickname, which is "Cheese". However, I believe you have labelled this as a Level 2 warning. Could you please allow this change to go ahead?

I had looked for any source to support "Cheese" as a nickname before issuing the warning and found none. A more thorough search after you left your note also could not find a single reliable and verifiable source that calls Ferguson by the nickname "Cheese". An edit with no edit summary by an editor with very other edits raises red flags and I hope you understand why I had questions about the edit when it was made and have even more concerns now. • As a group, it operates more like a volunteer fire department; we get together every now and then when some issue comes up. There are many editors who are active in different aspects and parts of the state, but we've had very little active collaboration. One of the things where we were effective was in some year-end wish lists at WT:NJ, where we did find some things to work on together. Defining Small Cat

I have long thought that WP:SMALLCAT was too subjective and that lead to confusion, people creating categories that they didn't know were against policies, and wasting everyone's time in CFD discussions. I think something saying that anything below 5 articles (or 10 or 2) is too small unless 75% of the overall scheme has more than that would be more useful than the current "I know it when I see it" standard.

Regardless of my numbers, would you favor that kind of hard definition? RevelationDirect (talk) 13:12, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

The underlying cutoff is hard to appreciate or understand. I'm editing the associated article and I had just looked at Category:People from Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey and breathed a sigh of relief as it has four entries. There are 51 subcategories in the parent Category:People from Monmouth County, New Jersey, of which there are six categories with fewer than five entries. What makes five enough and four too few? I think it's tough to get beyond "I know it when I see it", but a structure where most of the categories are substantial (above a threshold) and some are small (below that number) would make more sense and clarify some of the situations I'm dealing with. Use of word 'unprecedented' on article for Moorestown High School

Hi Alansohn,

Please reconsider the edit to remove 'unprecedented'. In most cases, this word is misused. Sports feats and records are rarely precedents. A precedent means something LIKE that has never happened, so much so that it is used to address things in the future. Meaning, it often comes with a rule change, new category, new policy, or has some impact on behavior, etc. You can read more about this on User_talk:Entirelybs. Even if something is unique or even a record, it is generally not a precedent. Unprecedented is often misused to mean 'never happened before' which is a mistake. The word is also often used as WP:Peacock, which should be eliminated, too.

Entirelybs, I agree that the word is overused and often misused. But if you believe that the word means "sets a precedent", you're on thin ground. The prevailing definition is something that was "never done or known before", which is a standard that is met here and in the overwhelming majority of cases where you've removed it. Furthermore this source is one of many that supports the use of "unprecedented" to refer to the team's accomplishments. There is so much to do in Wikipedia and I can't imagine that ridding the site of this one word will move the objective of building this encyclopedia. Just my opinion. Actually, unprecedented simply means without precedent. I acknowledge it is used a lot to mean "never been done before" - which is a big mistake here and in journalism lately. Writers and broadcasters do it all the time (I cringe when I hear it on ESPN). Another mistake is using the word to try and prop up something with an adjective, akin to WP:Peacock. I blame the internet generation, and the proliferation of content using quick-hit methods like blogs, which usually don't have much in the way of actual research or citing proper references, etc. But I digress.

To understand the mistake we have to review what the root - precedent - really means. Precedent means something that is used as an example or guide for how to address something in the future. There is nothing similar, no example already, nothing to guide how to deal with similar events in the future. Thus, a precedent will be accompanied with some change, new rule, demonstrated impact, consequence or implication. A good litmus test is to ask - "so what does this mean?". If it is just an interesting fact or new record, then that is all it really is: an interesting fact or new record. Most of the offenses I find are sports related, such as pertaining to consecutive-x type streaks, or beating the previous record (even by the smallest of margins).

By the way, simply finding an article on some website where someone used the word 'unprecedented' doesn't really help. (Why are they an authority anyway?) They made the same aforementioned mistake first, and you're just carrying it forward. In my research I cited both Merriam-Webster and Oxford English dictionaries, and both support the definition and usage I am referring to. Just because people use words wrong for so long (literally vs. figuratively is another common pitfall), doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to correct the error of their ways. Clean up on this site is encouraged, and that is what I've been doing. Otherwise it appears as acceptable and nobody learns anything or improves. Less experienced writers will emulate what exists, and develop the same bad habits.

In the end, I think the best for an encyclopedic format is just state facts and move on. Entirelybs (talk) 22:06, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

Entirelybs, I've seen some of the other arguments you've made on your talk page and elsewhere and I think that you're making a linguistic argument that doesn't fly. The words "discover" and "recover" both unambiguously have "cover" as their root, but "discover" never means to remove a cover and recover hardly ever means to put one back on (except in the sense of putting a cover back on a pot, when it's usually spelled "re-cover"). Anyone on a crusade that argues that "discover" and "recover" should never be used except in their hyper-literal original meaning would be looked at as a lunatic. My OED includes a quote of "a speech of unprecedented boldness" as a citation, which further contradicts your argument about usage; I assume it was not the first bold speech in history. Your insistence that "unprecedented" is based exclusively on the literal meeting of "precedent" is flat-out wrong. If someone used recover or discover incorrectly, then an editors purpose would be to correct that mistake, either by replacing it with a better word to correctly convey the meaning (such as by using one of the variants that has the proper meaning) or perhaps by removing it entirely. A better analogy to compare the unprecedented issue is 'cover' and 'uncover'. The use of 'un' doesn't materially change the meaning, except for the contra position meaning 'without'. Using 're' and dis' on cover do actually differ as you indicated. Look, I'm not saying that words only have 1 meaning - it's just that 'never happened before' isn't one of the meanings for unprecedented (at least not a proper meaning, it has been misused over time so much, like slang words that are common in use but English professors don't accept in formal papers).

To use your example of the speech of unprecedented boldness, does that mean it 'has never happened before'? No. But it may imply that it changes the way speeches are made (speeches are designed to shock or be memorable). See - again it is the impact or change. A better comparison on the speech example to what I'm saying about the misuse of unprecedented is : if speech #1 was 3:00 minutes long, and speech 2 was 3:01, would you call that 2nd speech 'unprecedented'? Not really, not based on time. It might qualify based on the content if it caused people to change some behavior, alter votes, any result that is different. Unless it was so exaggerated - like a politician filibustering (which works in some cases - so the first one to really do it well set a precedent that others followed to accomplish a similar thing). But if one filibuster was 12:00:00 hours, and the next was 12:01:00, that second one is not the precedent - only the first one is. That's the point here. It's not just that it is the first time, but that it also has some impact or change - the one that was the example to follow, the guide, the one that changed behavior. If a subsequent filibuster was so long that it causes congress to set rules or limits, that could also be a precedent. Entirelybs (talk) 14:56, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

It's funny sometimes how 2 people can see things so differently. The example you gave and you said 'contradicts my argument' I see as actually supporting my argument. Note that none of the examples say something like "never happened before" or "exceeded the previous amount by 1". Later, you suggest that my mistake is "that 'unprecedented' is based exclusively on the literal meeting of 'precedent' is flat-out wrong." But that is exactly how the authority/references (MW / OED) do it. I'm simply trying to help people understand, by using arguments consistent with authoritative sources. Why is that so wrong? Unprecedented is NOT an independent word with a new meaning all on its own.

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter

The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.

In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.

The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

1. Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
2. Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
3. Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
4. Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
5. West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
6. Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
7. Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
8. Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.

The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.

Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

JackTheVicar, I think it's an interesting approach that could be used in the 20 other counties, once the Sussex article is fleshed out. The main thing to think about is what is it that distinguishes List of municipalities in Sussex County, New Jersey from the parent Sussex County, New Jersey. • ultimately I'd like to shrink the Sussex County article which is rather bloated...like the geology section there is ok, it's not that scientific enough for my tastes, but a lot of that detail needs to be farmed out to other articles (like what ive been doing to my slow Kittatinny Mountain and Papakating Creek rewrites in my sandbox, and the sections drastically revised...a table like i have at the List of municipalities would take a lot of space in the Sussex Co article but the information in the table needed to be put in one spot together. At the parent county article, I don't know how I'd address it beyond "Sussex County has 24 municipalities, 1 incorporated as a town, 8 boroughs, 15 Townships". I don't like the bullet point list of municipalities with the census designated places. CDPs are arbitrary to me and tend to confuse some people...like Augusta NJ in Frankford Twsp is a CDP but there's practically nothing there, maybe 50 people in "Augusta" (and the Census Bureau defines it over other place Names which actually have a discrete character and definition...and population that identifies not as Augusta. Strange. Just a few nascent thoughts. I was planning to do a Warren County list next. I'd loathe to do Bergen. Did you see Boroughitis is at FAC? JackTheVicar (talk) 15:11, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

I find this deletion to be quite inconsistent. Why delete only these four categories (the most populated ones at that) and keep all the hundreds of others in Category:Deaths by cause?? I'm tempted to take this to WP:DRV but on the other hand, I don't want to risk getting the entire lot of 'em deleted for consistency's sake. Is it worth it? I can't speak to any free passes he may or may not have gotten in the past. Looking at the block log, I see that they stayed at 24 hours for longer than I would expect before they escalated recently, but I'm not familiar with the details. Bagumba, 3RR is intended to be a bright line rule. The clear 3RR violation at Union Square, Manhattan was followed that same day by a more egregious eight revert violation at Anna Politkovskaya. By using BLP to muddy the waters at the Politkovskaya article, User:Beyond My Ken was successful in baffling the masses with bullshit and convincing those unaware of his history and the details that the issue was BLP when the real issue was edit warring; mixing in some shameless personal attacks only aggravated matters. BMK seems to have learned nothing from his previous blocks, and the problem seems to be getting worse as time goes by. Compliant (and often negligent) administrators look at his rampant excuses and give him yet one more free pass after another. Each additional Get Out of Jail Free card only further emboldens one of Wikipedia's most abusive and disruptive editors. Alansohn (talk) 20:23, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Agree, I've blocked editors that hadn't hit 3RR when they should have known better. I wasn't involved before here, and I'm wary to block when many days have passed and presumably an editor has learned. Hopefully it's resolved, if not the next offense should be harsher. Hi Alansohn, I hope this finds you well! We crossed paths several times in the past. I'm not around here much lately and I don't have a lot of time to commit to building articles, but I ran across something that may be in your wheelhouse. The above article was tagged with a notability maintenance tag, which seems to have spooked the original author and she is second-guessing whether the subject deserves an article. She proceeded to delete portions of the article, which is what drew my attention. See User talk:Angelacarolf for my question and her reply. I think the subject is close to notable, and perhaps with a little more building-out the article could clearly satisfy the notability guideline for authors, academics, or both. WikiCup 2015: The results

WikiCup 2015 is now in the books! Congrats to our finalists and winners, and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

This year's results were an exact replica of last year's competition. For the second year in a row, the 2015 WikiCup champion is Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points). All of his points were earned for an impressive 253 featured pictures and their associated bonus points (5060 and 1695, respectively). His entries constituted scans of currency from all over the world and scans of medallions awarded to participants of the U.S. Space program. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came in second place; she earned by far the most bonus points (4082), for 4 featured articles, 15 good articles, and 147 DYKs, mostly about in her field of expertise, natural science. Cas Liber (submissions), a finalist every year since 2010, came in third, with 2379 points.

Our newcomer award, presented to the best-performing new competitor in the WikiCup, goes to Rationalobserver (submissions). Everyone should be very proud of the work they accomplished. We will announce our other award winners soon.
