User talk:Andrew Lawn
Hello, Andrew Lawn. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

[edit]Please don't copy content from the organisations' website as you did here. A) it creates problems with copyright and B) Wikipedia isn't supposed to be an extension of an organisation's website. Just leave that sort of information on your own website. Thanks SmartSE (talk) 13:39, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Theroadislong (talk) 13:15, 27 February 2019 (UTC)Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Dorothea De Winton
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:Dorothea De Winton requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.jic.ac.uk/blog/jbs-haldane-at-125/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Draft:Margaret Levyns
[edit]On the one hand, your draft article: Draft:Margaret Levyns Has the potential of being a fine addition to Wikipedia. There are a number of areas in which Wikipedia is deficient, and this hits some of them.
However, I do have some concerns.
Wikipedia greatly respects copyright. The source of much of your material source has an explanatory note:
The information available at this website is presented as a public service and its use is not restricted by copyright.
While it seems clear that they intend to provide the information without copyright restrictions, that wording is definitely not ideal wording. Preferred wording includes either an explicit release into the public domain, or an explicit license which permits reuse. They have done neither. It might be that the organization could be contacted and requested to provide an appropriate release.
However, there is a second concern. We want material to be cited to reliable sources. I know nothing about this organization. I do see that they have themselves cited sources which is a good sign, but I haven't tracked down those sources to see whether they rewrote the material in their own words or violated the underlying copyrights. What I see a jumbled attempt to eschew copyright, it raises a bit of a red flag that they may not qualify as a reliable source.
As stated earlier, it would be great to have an article on this person so I'd like to find ways to accept this but I am concerned about these issues. I'm going to ping: @Diannaa: our resident copyright expert in the hopes that she might shed some light on how we might proceed.--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:05, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, the draft was declined a few minutes ago as we already have an article on this topic (Margaret Levyns). Regarding the source webpage, it looks like an okay source for reliability, as most of the articles were written by "C. Plug", who turns out to be Professor C. Plug, Department of Psychology, University of South Africa. Regarding the copyright, it would be better if the wording specifically said something along the lines of "public domain", but I think it is compatibly licensed. This is my opinion only though, I could be wrong. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:39, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
