Willamette Week on Art+Feminism

Resolved

I believe your adding http://www.wweek.com/2016/03/02/ladypedia/, (which promotes the Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon) to various articles violates WP:SPAM, which states "Spam is the inappropriate addition of links or information to Wikipedia with the purpose of promoting an outside organization, individual or idea, and is considered harmful to the encyclopedia. Do not disrupt Wikipedia with spam. If you find spam, please remove or rewrite the content." Please explain how, in your view, your addition does not constitute spam. Thank you. Contributor321 (talk) 19:04, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

@Contributor321: If you read the article, you will see that WW has suggested specific edits to these Wikipedia articles. This cannot possibly be considered spam as the link is directly related to these articles. If anything, the URL should be added to the top of each talk page using Template:Press. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:07, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
It may be appropriate to place a note about this newspaper article on the different Talk pages for the articles that it mentions but it is not very helpful for you to just paste the URL without any context or explanation e.g., how this URL is relevant to these article. ElKevbo (talk) 22:46, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
OK, I replaced the URL with the press template. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Drafts created for Art+Feminism

We had a nice crowd today working on lots of editing!

Question: I created and pre-loaded 50+ drafts to make editing a little easier for newbies. Not all were used today, but since they were mostly created last night, should these drafts be counted in the totals for today?

Thanks for all your help and good work.

Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 06:03, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

@Grand'mere Eugene: I am so glad to hear! I enjoyed seeing Eugene's activity from afar. Wow, I did not notice before that many of the drafts listed here were created by you. I just thought you were collecting existing drafts and encouraging people to contribute to them, or use them as practice. I am impressed! You are certainly welcome to include them in A+F counts. I do have one concern, though. I think drafts are deleted after certain period of time with no activity (90 days comes to mind, but I may be wrong). So, while these drafts are new content created in conjunction with the A+F project, I fear some of them may be deleted unless they are expanded or moved to the main space. I'd consider compiling a list of the unused drafts and requesting if anyone at WikiProject Oregon wants to help add a few sentences and sources (enough to establish notability) and move the drafts to main space. Then we'd have many more articles to show off! ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:17, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the headsup. I think we may have blundered into some luck, because neither Valfontis nor I like the AfC process, so the drafts I generated may have quite a bit longer shelf life before deletion. Plus, each draft has a lead of at least one sentence and a citation, and most could qualify as stubs if it weren't for needing to make the notability criteria strong. There is a list here that shows stale drafts going back to 2014. Only one or two of the drafts people worked on here today were tagged AfC, so we might have enough time before the next event to at least develop most to the Start-class level. It's a healthy to-do list! – Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 06:54, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
@Grand'mere Eugene: Ah, ok. Good to know! Well, others may disagree, but I am actually a fan of stubs and would advocate for moving the drafts to main space. In my opinion, stubs serve a better purpose than more developed drafts because they are integrated into the encyclopedia and therefore open to more scrutiny and (hopefully) expansion over time. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:59, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Your removal of a G12 CSD tag on Francesca Debora Nuzzolese

Resolved

Hi, Another Believer. I noticed that you removed a G12 CSD tag from the article Francesca Debora Nuzzolese, but you didn't explain why in your edit summary. Can I ask why you removed this template? I am still seeing a G12 issue with the article, and I want to collaborate with you to take a look at it with me. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:51, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

@Oshwah: Oh, sorry. Several new articles created at an Art+Feminism event yesterday were tagged and I think I may have removed the tag from the wrong article. I reverted my own edit. I hope a few changes will allow the tag to be removed and the article kept. Thanks for leaving a note on my talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:17, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
No worries. Just wanted to ask you instead of simply reverting it, in case you disagreed :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:18, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
@Oshwah: There were a few articles where lists of accomplishments and works were being flagged as copyright violations, sometimes unnecessarily. I thought this was one of those cases, but I have not closely analyzed the article's content to determine whether or not the tag was appropriate. My apologies! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:20, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Pat Cummings, illustrator.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Pat Cummings, illustrator.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 09:27, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album

Hello Again, Another Believer:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album has been completed. There was virtually nothing needed to improve this article, since, like your others, it is extremely well written.

Sadly, citation #26, which was not archived, is now a dead link. I found a citation to confirm when the Award category was dropped - #24 - but with a quick look could not find the Carrier quote. Unless you are able to do so, his comments will need to be deleted.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (pun intended), it is clearly worthwhile to archive the URLs you use in your articles. It's a shame to do all the work only to lose it later on.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Your changes to Sonnet 20

Hi. I just got done standardizing the navboxes and wikiproject tags of all 154 sonnets. I have nothing against your changes, but if you don't like my order, please change all 154, not just one. Thanks. Phil wink (talk) 18:46, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

@Phil wink: Oh, I just happened upon this one article from Take All My Loves: 9 Shakespeare Sonnets. Makes more sense to list the sonnets navbox before the more general Shakespeare navbox, in my opinion, but I don't have time to go changing 153 more articles. I guess feel free to revert my edit if you see fit. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:58, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Portal bar

Re: this edit. The location of the portal bar in the Hotel Benton article is of no large consequence to me, but the guidance I've followed for placement of the portal bar is here: "just put it below the article text in the place that seems most appropriate", which doesn't specify before/after nav boxes. I'm okay if you prefer after, but bear in mind there's no rule about it. Unless you know of one I've missed? — Ipoellet (talk) 00:13, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Also, btw, this edit led me to look at the template documentation more closely. Until I did, I just thought {{reflist|30em}} was just a more obtuse, less intuitive synonym for {{reflist|3}}. I now know I was incorrect, they are different, and thank you for prodding me in that direction. — Ipoellet (talk) 00:19, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
@Ipoellet: Hey, thanks for both messages. Regarding the first: Thanks for pointing this out to me. I've always seen them below navboxes, so perhaps I assumed that was its preferred location. I've only gone back and forth with editors about placing it at the bottom of the article or the bottom of the see also section. Good to know! ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:13, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

"Only gives reviews from three outlets"

Sorry that this may sound a bit pushy, but there is substantial content in the reception section already. What more is needed? (the ratings are under the Broadcast section instead). ViperSnake151  Talk  15:58, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

@ViperSnake151: We disagree, but that's fine. In my opinion, the Reception section should have commentary from more than just three outlets. Surely many more outlets reviewed the show. I won't return the tag, but I do think the section needs additional work. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:09, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

The article Reactions to the 2016 Brussels bombings has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia does not require a lengthy list of quotes related to the Brussels bombings.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thanks

I only mainly focused on it because I've kind of been following those "live musical" specials that have been going around. ViperSnake151  Talk  00:32, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

@ViperSnake151: Yeah, you've done great work on the live musical articles. I was just encouraging promotion to Good status so you could be recognized even more for your work. It might not take too much work to get the Grease, Whiz, and Passion articles (maybe others?) to Good status. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:43, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

2016 GA Cup-Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 1

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Sainsf took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 765. In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 742 points, and in third place, FunkMonk received 610 points.

In Round 1, 206 reviews were completed, more than any other year! At the beginning of March, there were 595 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 490. We continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible.

To qualify for the second round, you needed to make it into the top 16 of participants. Users were placed in 4 random pools of 4. To qualify for Round 3, the top 2 in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 9th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on April 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on April 28 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here

Also, remember that a major rule change will go into effect starting on April 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 had an issue brought up in the rules, which we are correcting with this clarification. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: All reviews must give the nominator (or anyone else willing to improve the article) time to address the issues at hand, even if the article would qualify for what is usually called a "quick fail" in GA terms. To avoid further confusion, we have updated the scoring page, replacing the term "quick fail" with the term "fail without granting time for improvements". We expect all reviewers to put a review on hold for seven days in cases such as these as well, in order to apply the same standards to every competitor. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Edit

Hi. I was just going to pop in Wire sculpture on the Calder template, and saw you took out 'Mobile'. Calder gets credit for both these art forms, so they seem related enough to include. Thanks for creating the template, I'm learning quite a bit reading the articles. Randy Kryn 2:02, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

@Randy Kryn: Hmm, ok. I wouldn't think to add an entire art form to the navigation box of a specific artist. But I don't feel too strongly if you want to revert my edit. You might also see if someone at WikiProject Visual arts has an opinion either way. Thanks for leaving a note on my talk page! ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:04, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. The two pages seem to credit Calder with initiating the art forms, at least with enough emphasis that they seem related. If you have a few minutes maybe take a look at them. Good idea about the Visual Arts project, I'll get back to this tomorrow. I didn't realize Calder's father and grandfather were renowned sculptors, must have been some nice pieces laying around the house. My dad could have been a master sculptor, he would carve ornate Roman gods, one complete with a group of dogs surrounding a middle human figure, and an ornate discus thrower, out of bars of soap. They were amazing, and we just have the pictures left. He had a scholarship to a major art school, but then was drafted, fought his war, married, and then had to feed and cloth his brood. Good memories, but...I digress. Will get back to Calder on the morrow. Randy Kryn 2:15, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Sounds good. I am not too familiar with Calder's biography or work. If you feel the art forms are related enough to include in the navbox, I don't have a problem with you returning them. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:21, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Saffron Colonial article

Saw your Saffron Colonial post on Wiki-Oregon talk page. Vandalism problem aside, when I read the article what came to my mind was the questionable notability of a restaurant that had only been open two weeks with only one source backing up the article…plus text was dominated by quote from restaurant's owner. Not really my business of course, but thought I’d pass on comment for what it’s worth.--Orygun (talk) 19:49, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

@Orygun: Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I agree, the article needs to be expanded (my goal was just to get the ball rolling), but I don't believe notability is an issue here. I posted additional sources on the talk page and hope to expand the article when I have more time. In the meantime, I added the "One source" template to the top of the article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:58, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Maps

Eugene test map

I've figured out how to make OpenStreetMaps play, and so I think I can now create maps to order. Here's one I did of Eugene. The question for you is, what do you want the bounds of the map to be, first for Eugene and second for Salem, and then for whatever other maps you might want. You could, for instance, give me top left & bottom right coordinates for an area, say via http://mapper.acme.com/ (which is perhaps the most forthcoming map when it comes to harvesting coordinates ... there's a central crosshair and coords for it appear in the dialogue box in the bottom right). The business of turning a map into a pushpin map seems to be very easy, once you have specified the map area. Does that work? Sorry to lay it on you, but I'm assuming you have some knowledge of Oregon, such as whether or not to include the connurbation to the east of Eugene as part of Eugene or not, etc. hth. --Tagishsimon (talk) 02:40, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

@Tagishsimon: Thanks for looking into this as well. I am going to invite WikiProject Oregon members to this conversation and see if someone may be able to offer a better suggestion than I could. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:45, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
How about a Eugene map bounded from -123.22 west to -123.00 west, 44.14 north to 43.97 north? If I am getting my numbers right, that should include all of the city boundaries plus the airport and a couple of other pieces of land closely associated with Eugene. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:52, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: Please see Jonesey95's suggestion above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:44, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay, done that. The damage is at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Location_map/data/Eugene_OR ... over to you, AB. Does it work irl? --Tagishsimon (talk) 20:51, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
The PNG image does not match the boundaries that are listed above or in the template, so the pins are not landing correctly. Can you check the image generation again? It's showing all of Springfield, but it should end roughly at the "I5 OR 99" box on the east side, for example. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:00, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: Please see Jonesey95's comment above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:04, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
Yup. Getting to grips with the OpenStreetMaps UI ... I think I now have. It provides a yellow brick road method of selecting an area with known coords, but that seems to feed its XML export only. PNG export - which I expected to be in lockstep with the XML side - does it's own thing. So my second map didn't have the coord bounds I thought it had. Third map's a charm, we hope; and though I could have been less lazy & done the check Jonesey95 performed, maybe local knowledge goes a long way. Very grateful to J95. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:57, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
You fixed it. Teamwork! – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:37, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Be Alright (Ariana Grande song)

Hello Another Believer,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Be Alright (Ariana Grande song) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

A tag has been placed on File:Astoria Oregon - OpenStreetMap.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hi, AB, I think this sculptural installation is still temporarily stored at Lane Community College-- will call and check on its location. --Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 16:58, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

@Grand'mere Eugene: I assume your comment is regarding the missing coordinates tag. I think we should either add coordinates for where the installation was located, or remove the tag if you think it is likely the artwork will not be re-installed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:21, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, thanks, it is "on loan" to the David Joyce Gallery, on the second floor of the Center for Meeting and Learning (Building 19) at Lane Community College. The college coordinates on the LCC article land on a grass playing field on the north side of campus, and Building 19 is on the southwest side of the campus buildings, so if we want to indicate its exact location could you recompute the coordinates?
I think it may be there for another 6 months or so, as the airport renovation is in the throes of chaos as of last Sunday when I passed through on the way home. They are building all over the place, and the hall where Flight Patterns previously was mounted is being totally reconfigured, so it's not clear where or when it may be reinstalled. Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 21:31, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
I've amended the LCC coordinate a little to better point to the centre of the cluster of buildings, and tagged FP with coords for the Center for Meeting and Learning based on https://www.lanecc.edu/sites/default/files/locations/lcc_map.png ... I guess you'll have to keep tabs on the movements of this artwork. --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:42, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
@Tagishsimon: Thanks! @Grand'mere Eugene: Perhaps a note on the talk page would help clarify the coordinates and remind editors to track the installation's future? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:45, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, just about ready to post an update on the page, and will make a note on the talk page. You guys are terrific! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 21:49, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 8

Newsletter • March / April 2016

This month:

Transclude article requests anywhere on Wikipedia

In the last issue of the WikiProject X Newsletter, I discussed the upcoming Wikipedia Requests system: a central database for outstanding work on Wikipedia. I am pleased to announce Wikipedia Requests is live! Its purpose is to supplement automatically generated lists, such as those from SuggestBot, Reports bot, or Wikidata. It is currently being demonstrated on WikiProject Occupational Safety and Health (which I work on as part of my NIOSH duties) and WikiProject Women scientists.

Adding a request is as simple as filling out a form. Just go to the Add form to add your request. Adding sources will help ensure that your request is fulfilled more quickly. And when a request is fulfilled, simply click "mark as complete" and it will be removed from all the lists it's on. All at the click of a button! (If anyone is concerned, all actions are logged.)

With this new service is a template to transclude these requests: {{Wikipedia Requests}}. It's simple to use: add the template to a page, specifying article=, category=, or wikiproject=, and the list will be transcluded. For example, for requests having to do with all living people, just do {{Wikipedia Requests|category=Living people}}. Use these lists on WikiProjects but also for edit-a-thons where you want a convenient list of things to do on hand. Give it a shot!

Help us build our list!

The value of Wikipedia Requests comes from being a centralized database. The long work to migrating individual lists into this combined list is slowly underway. As of writing, we have 883 open tasks logged in Wikipedia Requests. We need your help building this list.

If you know of a list of missing articles, or of outstanding tasks for existing articles, that you would like to migrate to this new system, head on over to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Requests#Transition project and help out. Doing this will help put your list in front of more eyes—more than just your own WikiProject.

An open database means new tools

WikiProject X maintains a database that associates article talk pages (and draft talk pages) with WikiProjects. This database powers many of the reports that Reports bot generates. However, until very recently, this database was not made available to others who might find its data useful. It's only common sense to open up the database and let others build tools with it.

And indeed: Citation Hunt, the game to add citations to Wikipedia, now lets you filter by WikiProject, using the data from our database.

Are you a tool developer interested in using this? Here are some details: the database resides on Tool Labs with the name s52475__wpx_p. The table that associates WikiProjects with articles and drafts is called projectindex. Pages are stored by talk page title but in the future this should change. Have fun!

On the horizon
  • The work on the CollaborationKit extension continues. The extension will initially focus on reducing template and Lua bloat on WikiProjects (especially our WPX UI demonstration projects), and will from there create custom interfaces for creating and maintaining WikiProjects.
  • The WikiCite meeting will be in Berlin in May. The goal of the meeting is to figure out how to build a bibliographic database for use on the Wikimedia projects. This fits in quite nicely with WikiProject X's work: we want to make it easier for people to find things to work on, and with a powerful, open bibliographic database, we can build recommendations for sources. This feature was requested by the Wikipedia Library back in September, and this meeting is a major next step. We look forward to seeing what comes out of this meeting.

Until next time,

In 1999, our choir did something like it, on a much smaller scale: perform works which were written in connection with wars of the 20th century, as a statement for peace, performed together by former "enemies", people from Germany and Belgium, music by composers from Germany, Belgium and France. Editor of the Week : nominations needed!

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Akbar's Garden, Eugene, Oregon, 2015.jpg

Resolved

Thank you for uploading File:Akbar's Garden, Eugene, Oregon, 2015.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 10:11, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

@Stefan2: I am not sure what is wrong or how to correct this, but I am also currently on vacation and out of the country. I have uploaded many, many images of contemporary sculptures without problems, so I don't know what is different about this one. ---Another Believer (Talk) 10:33, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
A photo of a sculpture has two copyrights: that of the sculpture and that of the photograph. There is no need for both copyrights to be unlicensed - the photographer's copyright can be licensed. See for example {{photo of art}}. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:38, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
@Stefan2: So I am still sure exactly what action to take, but I took the photograph. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:26, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

@Stefan2: I think this image could have been saved the same way as the Alluvial Wall image (see below). Is there any way this image can be resurrected, or is it too late? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:39, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Provide a valid copyright tag and contact the admin who deleted the file. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:46, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Query about an invite to WikiProject LGBT

Is there an invite to WikiProject LGBT similar to {{Hawaii invite}} or {{WPSeattle-invite}}? I recently welcomed a new editor who almost exclusively edits LGBT-related articles, & I wanted to make her or him aware of WP LGBT.

If not, I probably could create one, although probably not immediately.

Peaceray (talk) 17:13, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

@Peaceray: Great question. I don't know if you are referring to the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, or English Wikipedia's WikiProject LGBT studies specifically, but either way, I am not aware of an invitation template. I did come across Template:LGBT Welcome, but this seems more appropriate for sending to someone who has already signed up as a participant. I will let you know if I come across something more appropriate. BTW, it was really good speaking with you this past weekend and I look forward to our next chat. --Another Believer (Talk) 17:21, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

2016 GA Cup-Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

Thursday saw the end of Round 2. Sainsf once again took out Round 2 with an amazing score of 996 (a higher score then he received in Round 1!). In second place, MPJ-DK earned an astounding 541 points, and in third place, Carbrera received 419 points.

In Round 2, 142 reviews were completed! At the beginning of April, there were 486 outstanding nominations in the GAN queue; by the end of Round 1, there were 384. Another demonstrable way in which this competition has made a difference is in the length of time articles languish in the queue. At the beginning of this GA Cup, the longest wait was over 9 months [1]; at the end of Round 2, the longest wait had decreased significantly, to a little over 5 months.[2] It's clear that we continue to make a difference at GAN and throughout Wikipedia, something we should all be proud of. Thanks to all our competitors for helping to make the GA Cup a continued success, and for your part in helping other editors improve articles. We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 3 so we can keep lowering the backlog as much as possible.

To qualify for the third round, contestants had to earn the two highest scores in each of the four pools in Round 2; plus, one wildcard. We had an unusual occurrence happen in Round 2: because only one contestant submitted reviews in one pool, we selected the contestant with the next highest score to move forward to Round 3. (There will be a rule change for future competitions in case something like this happens again.) For Round 3, users were placed in 3 random pools of 3. To qualify for the Final of the 3rd Annual GA Cup, the top user in each pool will progress, and there will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 4th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 3 will start on May 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on May 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.

New religious movements in the Pacific Northwest

If you're interested I'm struggling with what to do with Draft:New religious movements in the Pacific Northwest. It's kind of expanding beyond what I thought its scope would be, originally. There doesn't seem to be another article on religion in the PNW. - Brianhe (talk) 09:46, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

@Brianhe: I am only somewhat familiar with the Religion in Oregon article. I think this draft is a good start and I would recommend moving this one to the main space as well, so other editors can contribute more easily. ---Another Believer (Talk) 12:17, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Nevada Question 2

Another quickie for WP Cannabis: Nevada Question 2 (2016) - one of three measures guaranteed to be on the ballot in U.S. states this year; none of them had articles until a few minutes ago. - Brianhe (talk) 14:04, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

@Brianhe: Thanks for creating these articles. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, Wikipedia is lacking articles about many proposed and passed cannabis legislation. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:27, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
Would you like to propose some redlinks to work on? Something I've thought about is creating more of a comprehensible narrative of all the efforts going on in the Western states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Washington. At least one source (the last one I put in the Nevada article, Nevada Public Radio) does draw attention to the states learning from one another's legalization process and the effective pathways to regulation. I think soon we'll have some fertile ground to discuss the impact of the West on individual states in the rest of the nation and continued effects on Federal policy. – Brianhe (talk) 15:13, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

GA Cup-Round 3 Clarification

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016 GA Cup - Round 3

Hello, GA Cup competitors!

It has been brought to our attention that we made a mistake in the last newsletter. In the last newsletter, we said that the "4th place" overall would make the Final along with the top user from each pool. However, the users who will advance will be the top user from each pool along with "4th and 5th place" overall.

We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that we caused.

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase.

I stopped by Hands Across Hawthorne and noticed that a number of the source links are dead. I know that dead links do not count against you in a GA nomination, but it might help readers for you to spend some time at archive.org to see if you can find copies of the dead sources for this interesting article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:38, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Files like this need two copyright tags. The photographer should provide a free licence for his contribution, and then there should be a non-free copyright tag for the photographed artwork. {{Photo of art}} can be used for easily specifying two copyright tags. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:54, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie

Extended content

The album is just getting minor mentions. It still fails WP:NALBUM and is just a case of WP:TOOSOON. It's not appropriate to try to have this in main space. It's probably best to leave this as a redirect until it gets reviews or charts. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:32, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

@Walter Görlitz: Apologies, I reverted your edit before reading this talk page message. However, I must disagree. I think this is an appropriate article for an upcoming album, and it displays an appropriate banner tag encouraging people to expand the article. Let's just let this article snowball. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:34, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Did you read the two linked sections? Is the album getting significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject or just passing mentions? What I read is the latter. Did you read TOOSOON? Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:35, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
@Walter Görlitz: I agree that the article needs works, but the album's release date and track listing are confirmed, and there are sources discussing the album. They just need to be added. There is nothing wrong with having this article as an upcoming album. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:37, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm talking to a brick wall. Please read what I wrote. There are a lot of non-notable albums that have release dates and confirmed track lists. And yes, there are sources, but not offering significant coverage of the album. If you find these sources that offer significant coverage of the album, restore the article at that time, until then stop trying to add insignificant subjects off as worthy of articles. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:40, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm not a brick wall, nor do I feel like responding further. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:41, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
Sorry if you take offence at the brick wall comment, but you clearly have a different idea of what constitutes a notable album than I do. My opinion is based on the project's guidelines. Yours is based on something else. When you don't address the project guidelines that I am explaining and have linked to and instead offer your reasons, not based in guidelines or policies, then it's a problem. Also, it's not a battle. This is a discussion about whether an article is present for a currently notable subject. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:49, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
You are right -- "argument" was the wrong word, and I thought this to myself as soon as I hit the save button. But I still believe the article should not be redirected. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:00, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bullseye Glass requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Request to review Draft:Stephanie Majewski

Resolved

Hi Jason, I've prepared a draft for which I have a COI. Thanks for your encouragement to write and then declare potential COIs-- but no good deed goes unpunished! So I'm requesting your help to review it and either move it to article space or let me know it fails notability or whatever. If I have any further suggestions I will post them on the talk page.

If you do decide to move it to article space, the title should include her middle initial, A., since there are multiple living Stephanie Majewskies. (Never would have expected so many!)

Note also that I've suggested some categories and portal banners enclosed in nowiki code, and on the talk page I've listed wikiprojects, also in nowiki code.

As always, I appreciate your help. Cheers! — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 22:12, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

This article is well-referenced, but I suspect that it stands a good chance of being nominated for deletion for not meeting notability criteria. Does this faculty member meet any of the criteria at WP:NACADEMICS? I'm not seeing a match. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:29, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
That was my one concern, but she has been awarded the DOE Early Career Program award, which is prestigious, but I don't know if it's enough to get beyond WP:Too soon. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 22:40, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
@Grand'mere Eugene: Thanks for creating this draft. @Jonesey95: Thanks for reviewing. GE, I would be comfortable moving the draft to main space and seeing what happens, but I also have a lower notability threshold than many other Wikipedia editors (sometimes this is evidenced by the notifications of speedy deletions on my talk page, though, in my defense, a vast majority of the articles marked for deletion are kept). Do you feel like you've included as much information about Majewski as you can find? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:13, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
I say go for it, but don't be surprised if it gets nominated. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:17, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
@Grand'mere Eugene: Would you be comfortable if I moved the article, or would you prefer more time to make additions? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:19, 25 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm okay having it in article space for other editors to judge. Ideally, someone in the physics community will give a perspective on whether the DOE Early Career Research Program award is prestigious enough to meet the notability requirement for academics. Since I have a COI, I think I'm not in a position to argue its merits. Thanks, @Jonesey95:, and thanks Jason! Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 23:29, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

The article Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) for things which need to be addressed. Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight)

Congratulations on having the article Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight) passed for Good Article status. The article should be nominated for featured status later. Do you want to nominate it? We can co-nominate, and maybe Muboshgu may be interested in having this become a featured article as well.

Also, there's a DYK nomination, {{Did you know nominations/Donald Trump (Last Week Tonight)}}, that I think you can be attributed on. The DYK nomination has been approved but hasn't been on the Main Page yet. Should I add you name to the nomination?

Thanks again for all your hard work on this article. Kylo, Rey, & Finn Consortium (formerly epicgenius) (talk) 22:38, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

@Epicgenius: No problem! Glad the GA review was quick and easy. I'd be happy to be included in DYK and/or FA nominations. I would prefer if you and/or Muboshgu took the lead on the FA nomination, though, if either of you are interested. I am currently working on several major Wikipedia projects and may not have as much in the near future to address all of the concerns that could potentially arise in a FA review. But, I'd be happy to help in what ways I can, so do be sure to keep me in the loop! Thanks again for your work on this article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:47, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
No problem. I think your work is very extensive as well, though. Due to personal commitments, I won't have much time on Wikipedia until mid-June, but I guess we can start a featured-article candidacy after that. I'll clean up the article as much as I can before a potential nomination, though. Kylo, Rey, & Finn Consortium (formerly epicgenius) (talk) 22:51, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:53, 28 May 2016 (UTC)
I didn't know it was nominated. I was out of town for a couple days, but I'm back now, and will take a look. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:04, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
