Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Copying licensed material requires attribution

[edit]

Hi. I see in a recent addition to Penal labour in the United Kingdom you included material from a webpage that is available under a compatible Open Government Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa (talk) 13:49, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry.
I will be more careful in the future. DotCoder (talk) 15:45, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Endorsements in the 2024 United Kingdom general election, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Daily Record. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Information icon Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you have added compatibly licensed text to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as Relationship and Sex Education. You are welcome to import appropriate compatibly licensed content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Compatibly licensed sources, including the usage of an attribution template or manually like I did. Please make sure that any other content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:16, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from Prostitution in Northern Ireland into Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) Act (Northern Ireland) 2015. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. John B123 (talk) 04:50, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have no issue at all with you splitting the article as you did, it was a good thing to do, but you should have provided attribution at the time that you copied out of the old article and also as you copied into the new article. It's really important to do this - see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for future reference. I have put a {{copied}} template on the talk page so at least it's fixed. 10mmsocket (talk) 06:56, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Transgender men politicians indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. Hi DotCoder. Thank you for your work on List of statutory rules and orders of Northern Ireland, 1922. Another editor, I dream of horses, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

*Please* format the references correctly, per referencing for beginners. Creating a bunch of articles repetitiously like this doesn't help Wikipedia at all.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|I dream of horses}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

@I dream of horses:
The old page was hard to edit because it was so large.
Now that List of statutory rules and orders of Northern Ireland has been split up, I hope it will be easier to improve. DotCoder (talk) 00:16, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As it is, there's now a couple dozen articles that need the references formatted immediately. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 00:18, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I apologise. I had violated image copyright rules because I genuinely believed that the Open Government Licence applied to logos of images, which turned out not to be true. The other violations happened when I was being sloppy with editing, but I have gotten better over time, and I will try much hard. In the most recent case, I did copy and paste it, but I had intended to rewrite it with paraphrasing later. I forgot that. I apologise for that.DotCoder (talk) 11:30, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You don't get to violate copyright and place the entire wikimedia project in jeopardy just because you plan to rewrite it later. This shows a profound lack of understanding and a profound unwillingness to care. Yamla (talk) 11:41, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You should never click Publish changes on a screen that contains copyright violations. Even if you come back and revise the article, the page history will still contain a copyright violation that needs to be deleted by an admin. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for sockpuppetry

[edit]
Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/DotCoder. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

I'll add this: you seem to be very eager to contribute here - your editing is prolific, both before and after your block for copyright violations. If you want to contribute here, you need to be willing to abide by our policies and guidelines - not only those pertaining to copyright, but also those pertaining to sockpuppetry. I appreciate that you made an unblock request, which was declined, but the remedy to that is not simply to create a new account and carry on as you were before. I see multiple messages above raising concerns about copyright above, but I see no substantive response from you to them until after you were blocked - and even then, you don't give any indication that you have actually read and understood the policy. For example, you indicate that you had copy/pasted content and that you intended to come back and edit it to include paraphrasing afterwards. Had you read the policy, you would understand that (a) you may not even temporarily introduce copyright violations, and (b) that merely parahrasing content is not sufficient - it must be entirely written in your own words from the outset. To be unblocked, you will have to make a much more convincing unblock request, demonstrating that you have genuinely read the relevant policies, and understood the concerns that people have been raising with you for months.
