Awaiting Your Response on the Sunil Wadhwani Wikipedia Page

Hello @Edwardx:

This is in response to the message you had sent me regarding your concerns around the COI with Sunil Wadhwani. I reached out to you last week on my own talk page, but I suppose I ought to be responsible and leave a message here as well :)

I apologize for the confusion caused. I'm not sure what caused the image to be deleted, but given that a more experienced user has called me out on it, I must've made some mistake. But I have little to no connection with Mastech Digital or Sunil Wadhwani. Here is a link to the Mastech Digital website's press room page - Newsroom Gallery. Most of the images here are for public use with respect to anything around the company ecosystem.

Kindly advise on how we can work on this together, so I don't come across as a bad editor. It's well-researched and well-cited, and I took a good month or so to flesh it out completely. Let me know if this suffices as an explanation :)

Thank you. --Nishant.muralidharan (talk) 06:11, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Plugging the gaps – Wikimania report

Officially it is "bridging the gaps in knowledge", with Wikimania 2018 in Cape Town paying tribute to the southern African concept of ubuntu to implement it. Besides face-to-face interactions, Wikimedians do need their power sources.

Hackathon mentoring table wiring

Facto Post interviewed Jdforrester, who has attended every Wikimania, and now works as Senior Product Manager for the Wikimedia Foundation. His take on tackling the gaps in the Wikimedia movement is that "if we were an army, we could march in a column and close up all the gaps". In his view though, that is a faulty metaphor, and it leads to a completely false misunderstanding of the movement, its diversity and different aspirations, and the nature of the work as "fighting" to be done in the open sector. There are many fronts, and as an eventualist he feels the gaps experienced both by editors and by users of Wikimedia content are inevitable. He would like to see a greater emphasis on reuse of content, not simply its volume.

If that may not sound like radicalism, the Decolonizing the Internet conference here organized jointly with Whose Knowledge? can redress the picture. It comes with the claim to be "the first ever conference about centering marginalized knowledge online".

Overturned deletion

In January you took Stanislav Shekshnia to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stanislav Shekshnia, and it was deleted. In March you nominated it for speedy deletion after it had been re-created, and it was duly deleted by Randykitty. That deletion has now been overturned by another administrator, and the article is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stanislav Shekshnia (2nd nomination). If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on American Dry Cleaning Company requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 23:32, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Do you expect that a page for the company will be made soon? You added a link on RPDP:AS2 that currently doesn't exist.Naraht (talk) 13:26, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

I have no idea what RPDP:AS2 might be. Creating redlinks is encouraged, as long as it is reasonable to suppose that such an article would meet our notability criteria - see WP:REDLINK. Anyway, I have just started Anastasia Beverly Hills. Please feel free to expand my short stub! Edwardx (talk) 16:53, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.12 30 July 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Edwardx, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

On Samson Olatunde article. I put the article on the wikiproject Nigeria page, amongst the list of other articles about Nigeria and nigerians that need collaboration in editing. I did that for the sole purpose of inviting other Nigerian editors who are acquitted with the subject to help in the process.

About Sheena Allen, the subject has been featured by world class media houses like CNN, Huffington post, Forbes, Ebony just to name a few. It is all in the citations.

I write based on the stories I get from citations. If for instance, I saw on the stories I accessed in creating the Sheena Allen article that had to call back her products because of a dysfunction, I would have added it. Cheers Aghachi7 (talk) 14:50, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

If there is specific content you would like to have us add, please make an edit request at Talk:John Hall (American businessman), in your own words and with supporting citations (bare URLs are fine). Please use your own words, and use neutral language, see WP:NPOV, and WP:BLP for guidelines (and WP:COPYVIO). notability for investment firms

At the current state of notability discussions, I think it is likely that a number of the articles of investment firms you have been writing might be deleted. But you are one of the very few people working in this area who is not doing promotional editing, and I have generally supported the idea that WPedians should pre-emptively write articles of companies, to decrease the need for paid editing. Perhaps you ave some idea for how to defend these-especially we cannot obtain total funding DGG ( talk ) 22:02, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, DGG. Agreed that with the revamped WP:NCORP, some of those articles are likely more vulnerable to deletion. Unlike say, new tech companies, investment firms are often not looking for publicity, so finding in-depth coverage can be challenging. On the other hand, these firms often own US$ billions of assets, and my baseline assumption is that anyone or any company worth a billion ought to be notable enough for an article. Perhaps we need a policy along those lines, say WP:BILLION. Not following what you mean by "total funding"? Edwardx (talk) 14:08, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
I would support $1 billion as a figure for the US and W. Europe. Possibly a little lower elsewhere. (but the way capitalism is moving these days, perhaps it should be $2 billion? )
But what is the relevant number?. Capital under management, capital invested via the firm, total financial resources? As you can tell, I am far fro man expert. Some of the investments are indirect, and I've seen the entire value of the firms they cintrol included sometimes.
For private firms, how good is the information? DGG ( talk ) 18:43, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

arnt this source cited from instagram from same page, so why my edit reverted? --FPP (talk) 15:17, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Thank you, FPP. In her Instagram posting (assuming it is her), Alexandra Andresen has not explicitly stated that she herself is vegan, merely posted a "Go Vegan" graphic with the words "Brace yourself, butthurt people will rage". Using this as a basis for adding "Alexandra is vegan and call [sic] for animal rights" is a bit of a stretch. See WP:SELFSOURCE for more guidance. If she is a vegan, we at least need an explicit statement, ideally from a reliable secondary source. Edwardx (talk) 15:33, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Alexey M Reznikovich

Hi Edwardx, I can see you keep reverting original citations regarding personal life, family members, citizenship, property ownership etc. You are citing a blog which is considered to be unreliable source of information and cannot be used a reference of biographies of living persons. The blog entry is biased, highly negative and almost personal. Most of information on this blog cannot be verified, highly debatable and simply does not reflect facts, hence I would suggest removing this commentary completely unless additional credible sources can support the fact of acquisition of Maltese citizenship. Moreover, stating that the citizenship was purchased sounds like accusation more than a neutral statement of facts. Needless to say, that information about Mr Reznikovich’s citizenships is irrelevant. I would like to ask you not to use daphnecaruanagalizia.com as a reference for the purposes of Wikipedia page as it is against Wikipedia policies to use Blogs and unreliable sources. If you can find other credible sources verifying statements you make (citizenship, marital status, properties, number of children), that would be great. I believe I am making a point here. If you disagree for whatever reason, I would like to involve other editors. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.183.212 (talk) 20:46, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
