U spelt "onomatopoeia." Of courz teh nome iz hapy. —La Pianista (TCSR) 19:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

;) Yeah, good ol' Firefox. It bailed me out of many an embarrassing misspells...
But now a question...is it true that the 17 of your username can be translated as half-1337 (Don't ask me to leetspeak, I know zip), so that you are "the edit"? Or is that pure, Ed-ish coincidence? —La Pianista (TCSR) 19:39, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I love it too. =)
Ahum ... umm ... you ... you caught me!!! NOOOO! DON'T SHOOT ME, DEPUTY! IT WASN'T ME! Anyway, no it's a "pure, Ed-ish coincidence" Whatever THAT means...:) I think that I took the name the_ed17 'cos on hotmail ed and the_ed were taken...the_ed7 was born until I got spammed out...so that morphed to the_ed17...and then I stopped using hotmail in '04-'05 for a time (no internet!). But the tradition carried onto here in '06, when I was like, "hmmm, I need an account to create Akin Ayodele and Wykon Yes, I know that it was deleted =(...why not the same name as that old hotmail account?" And then, as they say, the legend of Ed began.
I almost want to change my sig to "King Ed" or "Dictator Ed" or have a running gag of "King Ed BOW BEFORE ME!" or "Pres Ed VOTE FOR ED" or something...what do you think? —the_ed1719:52, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I say Vote for Ed.
But I think "the Ed" pretty much sums it up, right? Aren't I La Pianista, not una Pianista? :) —La Pianista (TCSR) 19:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
HA! That link made me chuckle....I haven't seen Napoleon Dynamite in a lonnng time. :)
I know that it sums it up...but its been summing it up for 2 1/2 years now...=D —the_ed1720:05, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But...now...how about "Il Viquipedista"? It's Catalan. :) —La Pianista (TCSR) 00:07, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oooo forgot about that...lol :)
Wait, "Il Viquipedista" translates to Catalan? —the_ed1700:34, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Um, no, Catalan is the language. The text really just says "The Wikipedist," but it sounds nice. You like? —La Pianista (TCSR) 00:35, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I've checked my Catalan articles/pronouns. It's masculine, in case there's any confusion. —La Pianista (TCSR) 00:37, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that is AWESOME! Oh, that is AWESOME! Oh, that is AWESOME! :D :D :D I think I'll use it...
But hold on. =) I'm going to use it after the elections...I kinda want to try to use a "Vote for Ed" thing, just for kicks & giggles...but there is no way that that sig is going to last past the 9th/11th w/e it is.... =D (Then comes the terror of "Il Viquipedista"!! ;D) 00:56, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

lol! I know that the Ed part dosen't link, but I wanted to keep the "Newcomer" link on the 17, and adding another link made the HTML waaaay to long, IMHO. If you think that it wouldn't be too long though....
Shouldn't you produce the proof becuase it'll give you a case...? =D

AAU reminder notice

[edit]
A friendly reminder from the Adopt-a-User project =)
Hey there La Pianista! This is a friendly reminder to update your status at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's Area/Adopters whenever it is appropriate in order to provide new users with the most up-to-date information on available adopters. Also please note that we will be removing adopters who have not edited in 60 days. If you become active again (and we hope you do!) please feel free to re-add yourself. Cheers!
Waiiiit. Is the bot saying that you are not active? Okay then, considering that you edited yesterday.... Of course, the obvious question is "what are you not actively doing that you should become active in again?" ;D lol! —the_ed1715:11, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, yah, that's weird. I guess someone reported me manually...*draws light saber*...I think I'll have to find out who... —La Pianista (TCSR) 18:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow. I almost fell of my chair (seriously, I did, no joke) while I read the lightsaber part...completely unexpected. Isn't there some Wiki policy against death threats? ;D Watch yourself! lol! —the_ed1718:41, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be careful, thanx...but for future reference, that light saber is still drawn - out 'n' ready. But perhaps I'd better get my butt moving and assign my adoptees some work. ;) Any suggestions? —La Pianista (TCSR) 19:15, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ummm well, if they've already done a PR, have them review a GAN? —the_ed1719:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well...do you think this girl is ready? She's pretty young and doesn't yet have much of a grasp on policies (hope this doesn't hurt sunshine, if you ever read this, but it's true). —La Pianista (TCSR) 19:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mmmm. Didn't look at the adoptees...well, um, expand a stub with relevant info...? I don't know... =/ —the_ed1720:35, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't mean to butt in, but to be honest, I'm not really sure she's all that excited and dedicated to becoming a Wikipeidan. I think she just kind of thinks her userpage is cool. :P And about the AAU notice, I got it too, and it was sent by a bot, so it was probably sent to everyone just as a reminder. ~ Bella Swan? 22:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Bella. So then...should I un-adopt her or something? Since, of course, she really hasn't graduated, I can't let her go with the "graduated" userbox. —La Pianista (TCSR) 23:32, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got a notice too. I have no idea why though... Burner0718 Jibba Jabba! 23:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The notice says that it's just a reminder to update your page at AAU, so you don't forget about it, and your status of adoption sits there with wrong info. I guess it's kind of like a roll call for the adopters. As for Sunshine, I suggest you pretty much let it go. I mean, I have several users who I have still officially 'adopted', but they haven't been active since the beginning of summer. So, you obviously can't do much about it, but you might want to just assign her something that she can work on if she wants. The only suggestion I would give is to simplify the directions as much as possible, and instead of writing things in one big paragraph, put it in simple bullets. Sorry, that's all I can think of. Good luck! :) ~ Bella Swan? 01:24, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My userboxes seem to be overlapping, and I have no idea how to fix it. Do you happen to know how, or know another editior who does? Thanks, ~ Bella Swan? 22:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where are they overlapping? BTW, nice font in your sig. :Dthe_ed1723:06, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In Mozilla FireFox, they don't overlap, but in IE7, they do. Just to be safe for people using both browsers, try reducing what you have to at least three columns (I use two for those of us who don't maximize our windows).
The code is:
<center> {|style="float:center; background:none;" |{{Whatever}}{{userbox}} |- |{{you}}{{like}} |- |{{More}}{{if}} |- |{{you}}{{need}} |} </center>
Of course, it shows better in edit mode (just disregard the tt's and nowiki's). —La Pianista (TCSR) 23:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Darn! I completely knew that! I remember now trying to solve the problem and coming to the conclusion that I had to shorten it to 3 columns. Then, I got depressed at the thought of doing that much worked and decided to procrastinate. Thanks! ~ Bella Swan? 01:26, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just wasted 10 precious mintues of my life, and organized them... somewhat. Now I need to put them in groups. That'll be my goal for.. let's say... the next election. Sounds great. And realistic. *snorts* Well, I'm proud that my attention span and patience held out long enough to make the page look halfway decent. Thanks again for reminding me of my short-term memory loss. :) ~ Bella Swan? 01:53, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with RL.....

[edit]

Hi....I'm still on Wikibreak, but my mom let me on for this. I've already asked all of my friends this before, so now I am asking you... My girlfriend doesn't like to eat. For a time, I got her to eat two meals a day, but now she just had her second dizzy spell in three weeks. Tonight is the high school homecoming (she's still in high school) and I just told her that if she refused to eat a hot dog I gave her, I would not be going to the dance....she didn't. So as of now, I'm not going to go; but that's not what I am going to ask about... Help me inside of her head. How could I get her to think that she is NOT fat!!! (she isn't, by the way [not a biased opinion, everone agrees with me]) How can I get her to see that she is NOT ugly, but beautiful and thin? (Again, this isn't biased...I've got a lot off people who agree with me) I've talked to everyone except her parents, and nothing they have given me has worked. I don't know what to do, and neither do my friends...so what do I do? I go on Wikipedia. =) Anyway, sorry for the novel. I'll try to get back on tonight and check this... Sorry to dumb this on you, but you are, literally, the last person that is not her parents. =/ Thank you sooo much, Pianista. —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 21:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoa, I'm Dr. Laura all of a sudden...
On the serious side, though, are you sure she's not suffering from an eating disorder? Dizzy spells are very serious - a lot more serious than it seems you're making it. I suggest you be the man and tell her parents what you see, calmly, so they can talk it out with her. Just tell them what you are seeing - don't make any suggestions as to what they should do as parents. It frightens me that even they are not aware of this.
And from a girl, I must tell you this - you can't change a girl's mind. Man can move mountains, but he can't ever convince his girlfriend she's not fat. You can't coax her into it with statistical data and all, since only men think like that. Women can be practical, but at root, remember that we are all emotional creatures.
I suggest you follow the extremely difficult advice I gave you (talking to her parents). I know, it'll be a trial, or even perhaps relationship suicide...but if your girl is the wise gal I hope she is, she'll realize that your thoughts are entirely out of concern for her well-being. Any chick with a head on her shoulders will be more than touched by that. :) —La Pianista (TCS) 23:05, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She had anerexia a while back becaue her previous boyfriend called her stupid, fat, lazy and ugly...and she relapses I think. They know. Her parents know. It's just that they heard about it 8 months ago and they think (I believe) that she was "cured"... Her parents are stupid, though. Her dad...abused her when she was 10, but hasn't done it since (thank god) ... no one else knows about it beside me, her and him (and you :]). Her mom does her siblings' repots because they wait too long to do it and are like "Mom, we can't do this in one night, help us! So what does her mom do? "[My girlfriend], come here! Help me with this." And they spend three hours reseaarching + writing + priting it out. -_- Ugh...I am soooo pessimistic today....
....unfortunately, I noticed.
One of her friend told her parents before me...if she relapses again, I'll tell them again, I guess...I don't want to pile on.
She will realize it, I hope...I also hope that I don't have to tell them a second time...
Thank you soooooo much, Pianista.... I'll try to get back on later... With muccccch love for Pinaista right now, —Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 23:18, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that she might try to eat more now OF HER OWN FREE WILL (!!!!!!) (not "I'm doing this for you")...thank goodness. Thank you thank you thank you...I can't describe what those words meant, even if I didn't follow your advice and tell her parents (though I would have if it hadn't been for Becca). Thanks the most for the "not able to change a girl's mind" part...I knew that, but I never really accepted it 'cos I thought "oh, I'll be able too"...gosh, I feel as if I just acquired a new best friend...thanks a lot, pal. :) I hope that the hugglin' is awesome, and I should be on tommorow afternoon/possibly evening (I don't know when we are leaving to head back to college, and I have to finish a paper =/). The Barnstar of Diligence
I hereby award this Barnstar to La Pianista for her continuing diligent and professional work on the Motto of the Day page, including her inciteful comments, clever suggestions and useful research. Keep up the good work! Nutiketaiel (talk) 19:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose technically I should be giving you the MotD award, but I don't really like it, so I figured this one fits too. Seriously, you're doing a great job over there. Incidentally, I really like your user page, too. If I weren't allready here to give you a Barnstar for something else, I'd give you one for having such a well designed userpage. In fact, I think I will. Nutiketaiel (talk) 19:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Excellent Userpage Award

Yes, it is a copypaste of the wording from yours...but that's only because I couldn't think of one any better. Besides, it seems as if you've been there for a much longer time than I have. :D
One question, though: what is the story behind your name? It is very unusual. —La Pianista (TCS) 00:42, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Barnstar!  :-) "Nutiket" is a Leni Lenape word meaning "Guardian." I learned it when I was in the Order of the Arrow, a sub-sect of the Boy Scouts of America and loved the sound of it. The "Aiel" are a nation of people from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, my favorite books. I've been using the same handle in various online communities since I was a teenager; it has personal meaning for me, but is unusual enough that I have never found it to be taken by someone else. Most people just abbreviate it to "Nuti" when referring to me, though.  :-) Nutiketaiel (talk) 12:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI

[edit]

I was blocked and left for dead. A good samaritan unblocked me. The wisdom of this unblocked has been proven with over a year of good edits since the unblock. Many administrators refuse to unblock. I am an example of the harm of refusing unblock. It is permanent loss of information from WP.

Hello! Chergles (talk) 20:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello to you too!
Gee, thanks for the info...but what does your message refer to? —La Pianista (TCS) 00:53, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You had a discussion with Ryulong. He wrongly blocked me indefinitely. It had to do with someone's legal threat. I said that accusations of legal threats should specify the lefal threat and quote the sentence. Ryulong said that any defense of that person means you are a sock. However, that was over a year ago. Chergles (talk) 00:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yes. Although I do understand the grounds for his block, I agree that it was a bit too harsh and sudden. I'm glad that you (and her) were unblocked to continue editing.
BTW, what was the unblock for? (explanation came after edit conflict, thank you.) :) —La Pianista (TCS) 00:13, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with userpage project

[edit]

{{helpme}} I am currently designing a userpage for one of our newest users, Spittlespat, who has asked me to do so. But I am having trouble with the bluelinks in the leftside body of text. I am not familiar with the coding - it is just a copy-paste of someone else's userspace.

It can be found in my alternative sandbox, User:La Pianista/sandbox 2. —La Pianista (TCS) 18:06, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I made a small fix; but I dunno if that was really it. Does someone have firefox and can check? ~ Bella Swan? 21:57, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, doesn't work. Perhaps I'll have to make do with a little tag: This page looks best in IE7, which is a real first-timer. :) —La Pianista (TCS) 22:21, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In firefox, the links still don't work, and the userboxen are underneath the transparent thingy, so they look kind of shadowy. Chamal talk work 00:28, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wait, it lloks like the userboxen are also semi-transparent, and not underneath that thingy. Did you make it happen, or is something wrong with it? Doesn't look bad though, on second thought :) Chamal talk work 00:31, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that was intentional. :) But I guess I'll leave it be - for now, I'll focus on figuring out how to put the navigation table at the top of that...and getting the subpages to match that motif.La Pianista (TCS) 00:46, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rebel Queen?

[edit]

I saw these edits and I wondered... do you know what happened? Usually someone should just get a warning for not editing, and just talking on Wikipedia, not their page deleted and the user blocked... ? ~ Bella Swan? 22:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I thought that, too. Then I posted a message at the blocking admin's page, here. His response can be found under that. —La Pianista (TCS) 22:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really required to issue a warning before blocking, per WP:BLOCK though. Since she has been editing for a few months, I guess the admin expected her to know the policy by now. I agree that it was harsh, but when looking at her edit count of <100 mainspace edits and >350 userspace edits, I guess it would look like she was being disruptive to someone who hasn't met her before... Or is it just that I don't want to blame anyone? I don't know :) Chamal talk work 00:23, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps. Sometimes I fear you may be too nice, Chamal. :D :D :D —La Pianista (TCS) 00:25, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, now that I'm reading this, I remember this happeneing on one other occation. It's a really ineffective rule, I think I'm gonna propose something to be changed about it. ~ Bella Swan? 21:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed...it seems to be a sort of controversial block Ryulong made. Maybe some sort of gentle warning for these sorts of situations would be appropriate? As Mango said on Ryuu's talkpage, she's been pretty productive. IceUnshattered [ t ] 00:04, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've started a conversation about it at the Help Desk, and hopefully we can find a way to fix this. The situation is this: Ruylong did nothing *specifically* wrong in blocking her, it was a quite bit harsh, but acceptable since there is no *exact* policy on the subject. This policy is somewhat applicable, but the problem is that it's vauge and open to interpertaion by the admin, so you can't outright say the admin was wrong in doing what he did. She is unblocked now and can come back, so I figured that we'll need to do something to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen again. The problem is, we can't figure out what. Feel free to contribute an ideas. ~ Bella Swan? 00:21, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Bella, for your pursuits. I've read the discussion and found it to be very enlightening. —La Pianista (TCS) 04:17, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
