Peer Review

Hi, I had listed this article for peer review. Your suggestions are most welcome. Commander (Ping me) 16:48, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Vensatry, it suffers from the same problem I had notified you earlier. Somehow you are not grasping the reference formatting. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:28, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
Same problem? I have revamped the article's design, format everything based on other FLs in WP:CRIC. The article even underwent a thorough copyedit. Commander (Ping me) 09:37, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the barnstar! :D --Christianrxx (talk) 18:43, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Christianrxx

If you get a spare minute...

Could you tell me whether the chord progression of this remains E–A–B throughout the chorus and middle eight as well? Thanks. BTW what do you think of 1D? Honestly. —Andrewstalk 06:44, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I can see a change to the flat keys during the line "Don't Need makeup to cover...". You can say that the tone shifts one key down I guess. I honestly have listened to two songs by 1D, they are cool I guess. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Government Hooker

Hi Legolas, I wondered if you could create Government Hooker since there is enough information here. Bye!Flores,Alberto (talk) 18:46, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I think so, it can be. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:34, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Question about referenciing

Noting that you helped bring Madonna (entertainer) to FA, do you think you could give me some feedback? I'm working on the article for Chrisye (and it is now quite possibly our most developed article on an Indonesian singer, although Anggun comes close) and I want to bring it to FA class after it passes the current GA nomination. The biography I have has testimonials from numerous famous people, including former President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Now, to cite this should I do:

  • Sukarnoputri, Megawati (2007). "Dia Penyanyi yang Seniman". In Endah, Alberthiene (ed.). Chrisye: Sebuah Memoar Musikal (in Indonesian). Jakarta: Gramedia Pustaka Utama. p. 339. ISBN 978-979-22-2606-5. {{cite book}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help); Unknown parameter |trans_chapter= ignored (|trans-chapter= suggested) (help); Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)

or the standard

What do you think? Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:56, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

If you are using only this book, then you can go with the first option. However, if there are multiple books like the Madonna bio article, then go with the second option for the book-lists and {{harvnb}} template for the references. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:33, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Favor!

Hey Lego. How are you? I need a little favor from you. I am working on List of Rihanna concert tours and I am basing in on the model from the Madonna ones that you created. Can you check the lead, c/e, and tell me what you think about it. It's still not finished, but the first paragraph is done. Thanks — Tomica1111Question Existing? 15:04, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello Lego! Can you try finding a source for the "Unfaithful" charting on the Canadian Singles Chart. I would be grateful ;) !— Tomica1111Question Existing? 18:06, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

OMG

You have done such a great job with Madonna-related articles. I just read W.E, and was blown away. Think some of that talent can rub off on me? Haha, kidding. Keep up the great work. :D —DAP388 (talk) 00:44, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Year-end Greek airplay

What needs discussion exactly? The chart is compiled by the official Airplay monitoring service in Greece, Media Inspector. [www.mediainspector.gr] Their full charts are not publicly accessible. The site that posted the Year-end chart is reliable. (e-tetradio) It is a sister site of Billboard Greece, developed by the same company (Radio Times LLC), in fact they share the same chief editor. (Dimitris Kanellopoulos) Greekboy (talk) 18:28, 8 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes I understand perfectly. Can you raise a thread at the WP:GOODCHARTS talk page so that its reliability is verified and we can use it for other articles as well? — Legolas (talk2me) 03:53, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Thx!

Thanks for the praise, Avi! I'm intrigued, what one in particular were you thinking of this time? Moisejp (talk) 05:22, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Regarding deletion of Oath of Vayuputras

Hey, while I do understand that you've deleted the content on the Oath of Vayuputras by Amish in good faith, the book is already announced as a part of the trilogy so it hardly makes it an uncertain event in the future. It is not promotional in nature and was merely quoting the available references from the internet. Eventually, the article will come in place because the author has already announced the title as well as the fact that he is working on it. I don't want to start an edit war here but I really do think that the DAB is kinda misleading and should in fact be replaced with a stub for the same. Noopur28 (talk) 17:24, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

WP:CRYSTAL doesnot necessary mean that the name of the book, etc is all tied in together as a definitive release. Things can change drastically and ultimately might be a different name, concept etc. As you can see with the second book, things ultimately changed. Since we can either avoid creating stubs, that's what we should do. Also Noopur (I guess you're Indian as me), thanks for the wonderful sources that you're providing. But let's just wait for a few months for this one. Let Amish talk about the book and some info come up rather than just a stub. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:29, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Same DNA, same chord progression

Madonna talks "BTW". It's obvious she's been dissatisfied, ever since the W/E premiere. "lady who?" I feel the diva wars will intensify in March. xD —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 02:18, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Already read all of that. You know, more than being dissatisfied, this is pure business for her. Otherwise she wouldn't have waited so long to comment on this shit. Let's face it, some parts of BTW does sound like EY. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:38, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
It's the first thing I had noticed when I first heard "Born This Way" actually. I think she should just let her music speak for itself and ignore questions like these. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 03:42, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
She can, but she won't. Controversy's first child is Madonna. The "Look it up" and then sipping tea comment is already going down in history as one of the shadiest moments of pop music. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:49, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
They were so sweet on SNL. Shame. South Korean sliced pineapple canning company? Uh, OK. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 03:55, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
You know what? Both of them are smart enough to bask in the glory of this comment. This is more press than what Gaga's been getting in the New Year (most of them have been about MTN flopping). This is certainly making people notice M.D.N.A. and Madonna knows certainly what "reductive" means, and it surely isn't the one being thrown around. She already explained in the interview what reductive is, people need to pay attention. Smart. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:05, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
She did applaud Gaga as "a very talented artist" and "flattering". She's creating a lot of promotional drama for her album though, and I think that's what she wants. It works. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 04:12, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Its working bothways. "Born This Way" jumped from 151 to 92 on iTunes. "Express Yourself" jumped from "nothing" to 322. Like a Prayer moved to 97 on iTunes also. Madonna appreciates Gaga. I know her very well and if she didn't think Gaga talented, she would have never commented. Like the same way she has never commented about Mariah coz she thinks she's too manufactured in her initial days. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:17, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I respect both artists, and I didn't feel it made sense that Madonna would do to Gaga what she did to Gwen Stefani. She's just mysterious and it's hard to make out what she tries to mean. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 04:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
There is a meaning always and for god's sake I'm happy that there are dual meanings, instead of the crap she has given us for the last five years like Hard Candy and "Celebration". There are more hidden meanings now, MDNA, "Masterpiece", "Trust" ---> the lyrical brilliance is back again. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:31, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I didn't think a sudden urge to save the world in four minutes was too brilliant either. "Masterpiece" is true to its name, a masterpiece. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 04:34, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
The pathetic most was "Revolver" I think...My love's a revolver, my sex is a killer, do you want to die happy? I mean, like WTF? The only brilliant line she has done in the last five years is from "REvolver" though: Mirror, mirror on the wall, Who's the baddest of them all? PS: I hope "Masterpiece" wins tomorrow. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Avi. Do you know an alternative for "dips in and out"? See the second paragraph here. I have talked to my copy-editors. They told me that it is good but Efe is calling it informal, which my dictionary opposes. But still, I think I will replace it to avoid the drama. Reference. If I Were a Boy

Hi. That's the name of the article on which I have began to work for my next FAC. Can you please tell me if this line: The musical accompaniment has a spare, cinematic quality that she fills with an expansive voice that occasionally reaches past the singer’s grasp. is actually about "If I Were a Boy" or not? Jivesh1205 (Talk) 10:26, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it is actually describing the overall feel of the song. The reviewer feels that IIWAB evokes a cinematic narrative, with its broad range and composition, however, at places, Knowles' voice falters and fails to achieve the range required for such a composition to come to fruition. — Legolas (talk2me) 12:53, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Avi. Can the first part be used as a music sample rationale? Actually, I am not sure the actual music sample caption is good. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 12:57, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Nahh, personally I don't think the sample will ever justify the cinematic quality of the song, since, well it is low-quality per WP:SAMPLE. Try a different, but regular approach of tying it in with the composition, like where Knowles' voice breaks "I think I could understand..." to illustrate that with the sample. — Legolas (talk2me) 13:09, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

New Gaga EP

Legooo! I gotta question for ya! So I heard that the reason that Marry The Night was flopping is cause Gaga's managment isn't promoting it due to the fact that she's coming out with an EP mid 2012. I don't know if it's true or not, but shes been talking about releasing a new album, plus her new Princess Diana song and Elton John duet. So do you think it's true, or just pure hope?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 19:23, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Nope, MTN flopped coz it didn't click with the public. Lets face it, the song is just too random and too structure-less to sound like a proper song. Plus that bullshit video didn't really help. — Legolas (talk2me) 02:33, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
FML I totally agree.. I actually wished that song would bring her back on the charts. Do you think her label will let her release another single or is this the end of the BTW era and time to move on to the next?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 04:02, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Probably "Hair".. else nothing else. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:05, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
So much for "Heavy Metal Lover", "Americano", "Bloody Mary", and "Government Hooker" LOL! But in all honesty they really woulda flopped. I think "Hair" would do good, but really I just hope she goes back to TFM era, it was a good mix ya know?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 04:12, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
A progressive artist like her will never go back to the same sound. But I do agree that she needs to cut down on the OTT bullshit and be a little more simple. The crazy antics do put off people nowadays. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:40, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
I think it'd be really great to see her go in a more electro-rock oriented direction, kind of like how Coldplay switched up their sound, or go to a classy sort of modern jazz. Personally what would make me happiest would be to see her do an album full of "Dance In The Dark"'s and "Edge of Glory"'s, she has such a beautiful voice for those kinds of songs, not full of autotune crap--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 04:51, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Actually she needs the commercial backing again. So the next release should be more commercial, then the fourth album can be experimental again. Lets face it, commercial aspect is important and Interscope won't let Gaga do anything on her own whim now. They would want a new sound commercial enough. The techno rock thing sounds heaven in Born This Way but didn't set the charts on fire. I do agree I would love songs like "Edge of Glory" on her next venture. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:55, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Honestly you need to be on her management team LOL! I think you could bring her back to her former glory. She's famous for her antics and not her music, and even that's slipping away. So when you mean commercial sound, do you mean the light weight electro-pop of Katy, or just a watered down BTW?--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 05:02, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

the height debate in W.E

there is no debate about the height of James D'arcy who is listed on IMDB as being 6'3". The duke of Windsor was a small man - you can see this in any number of contemporary photos including this one of him with Nixon (who was 5'11"). In the picture Nixon towers over the Duke and Mrs Simpson 1. You are clearly a big fan of Madonna as evidenced by your personal page. You appear to be refusing to allow any critical elements to appear in the write up of the film. If you can suggest a way that this fact can be entered into the description of the film I would be happy to take advantage of your greater experience of Wikipedia. However, I think it a legitimate critique of the film to point out that Madonna has cast someone who by any standards is very tall to play someone who the historic record shows was below average height. It raises the question of her pro royalist sentiments that she has deliberately chosen to use her film to show the Duke of Windsor as being physically powerful and a head taller than his wife, whereas pictures of them together in public show them to have been of similar height allowing for her somewhat higher shoes. The scene by the water's edge only serves to promote a myth of the former king having a powerful physical presence. It is shot in a very similar way to the famous beach scene with Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in From here to eternity. The question of the appropriateness of casting is a legitimate issue in any description of a film on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peterramsden (talkcontribs) 15:10, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Doubt

What would be the "publisher" parameter for Rediff. Vensatry (Ping me) 19:00, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Rediff itself is the publisher. — Legolas (talk2me) 04:28, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
What would be the "work" parameter then? Vensatry (Ping me) 06:17, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
There won't be any work parameter since it is a self publishing source. Hence only add publisher=Rediff.com to the reference. Hope this clears your confusion. — Legolas (talk2me) 13:13, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
"Rediff.com"? I remember you long back saying that not to add ".com" in work or publisher parameters. Vensatry (Ping me) 11:17, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
When a website itself is its own name, then there won't be anything else to add. For eg: for The Times of India we won't be adding timesofindia.indiatimes.com since the name itself is The Times of India. — Legolas (talk2me) 11:31, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Is it okay if I trim the synopsis section of that article? It looks worrying and wordy. Then again, the whole article could benefit from some trimming, but that's later. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 15:03, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

About the {{noitalic}} template: is there any particular reason it is recommended over the regular wikimarkup? I won't mind doing it, but I don't want it to unnecessarily increase the article's bytes. And lol at the YouTube user. What a diva. Thanks, —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 15:02, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Its only for the work parameters which you want to appear as non-italicized, like work=MTV News. — Legolas (talk2me) 15:12, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Like a Prayer

Dear Legolas, I left some pre-FAC comments at Talk:Like a Prayer (song). I think it is very good in terms of comprehensiveness. I do think you would find opposition at FAC based on the prose, so that would need to be addressed ahead of time. I hope my comments help. --Laser brain (talk) 17:11, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

A litte... help

Hi there. I was wondering if you weren't too busy if you could take a look at 21's peer review. Any suggestions, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. No rush if you can't get to it right now. Hoping to take it to FAC in about a week. Thanks again. My main issue at the moment is prose and citation consistency. Orane (talk) 23:24, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 January newsletter

WikiCup 2012 is off to a flying start. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly!

The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20.

A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.

  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first to score, with his good article review of Illinois v. McArthur.
  • Florida 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score points for an article, thanks to his work on Hurricane Debby (1982)- now a good article. Tropical storms have featured heavily in the Cup, and good articles currently have a relatively fast turnaround time for reviews.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) was the first to score points for a did you know, with Russian submarine K-114 Tula. Military history is another subject which has seen a lot of Cup activity.
  • Russia Sp33dyphil (submissions) is also the first person to successfully claim bonus points. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is now a good article, and was eligible for bonus points because the subject was covered on more than 20 other Wikipedias at the start of the competition. It is fantastic to see bonus points being claimed so early!
  • Byzantine Empire Speciate (submissions) was the first to score points for an In the News entry, with Paedophryne amauensis. The lead image from the article was also used on the main page for a time, and it's certainly eye-catching!
  • Mauritius Jivesh boodhun (submissions) was the first to score points for a featured article, and is, at the moment, the only competitor to claim for one. The article, "Halo" (Beyoncé Knowles song), was also worth double points because of its wide coverage. While this is an article that Jivesh and others have worked on for some time, it is undeniable that he has put considerable work into it this year, pushing it over the edge.

We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition.

A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. French source in Gaga articles

Hi, I want to let you know that the source http://proxy.siteo.com.s3.amazonaws.com/disqueenfrance.siteo.com/file/dossierdepressesnep-midem2012.pdf is taken form the SNEP site http://www.disqueenfrance.com/fr/catalogpage.xml?id=430982&pg=1&cat=251362 (the last link). Anyway, I have added again France with this source http://www.disqueenfrance.com/fr/pag-259376-Classements-Annuels.html.

Now I have a problem because here http://www.disqueenfrance.com/fr/pag-259376-Classements-Annuels.html we have the singles year-end chart (physical singles) and Born This Way is #31. On the digital singles year-end chart it is #22 (http://www.disqueenfrance.com/fr/pag-259376-Classements-Annuels.html?year=&type=8 ), and it's #22 on the combined chart (http://proxy.siteo.com.s3.amazonaws.com/disqueenfrance.siteo.com/file/dossierdepressesnep-midem2012.pdf ). Which chart should I use? And Judas - did not chart on the singles (physical singles) chart but it is #41 on the digital chart and #48 on the combined chart. The Edge of Glory charted only on the combined chart (#87). Which charts should I use? Album charted at #18 on the albums chart and combined chart, and #14 on the digital chart. The same here... Max24 (talk) 11:16, 01 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh is it? We generally take only the combined chart so you can add that only, the proxy.siteo site. I wasn't aware that the link comes from disque en france itself. Sorry for reverting your edits then. — Legolas (talk2me) 12:09, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Third opinion

I reverted this edit merely because it is going into too much detail without sources. The editor spoke to me about the cultural significance of Beethoven and I told him that specific details like this regardlessly need sources per WP:PLOTSUM. (S)he dismissively expressed WP:IDHT. Please see the discussion. And this. I have no problem with its inclusion if it can be sourced, but right now it's simply bloated. Could you give some input. It'd be greatly appreciated. Regards, —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 18:32, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

This should do it, is the editor high or something? And what cultural movement with a damn Beethoven sonata being included? Its like the same BS Gaga's been spreading. — Legolas (talk2me) 03:09, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. Getting a bit tired with all the trivia additions lately. Can't wait for the music video premiere tho! Eek. —WP:PENGUIN · [ TALK ] 09:52, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

She looks really hot, unlike the "4 Minutes" video where she was just plain scary. Her look reminds me that of her appearance on the 2009 VMAs, paying tribute to MJ. — Legolas (talk2me) 16:07, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Lol, my FAs are snatching wigs? :P You made me remember something I saw on ATRL. A Britney Spears fan was asking why there will not be a Glastonbury 2012 (The festival will actually be back in 2013). A Beyonce fan replied: "Don't you know Beyonce performed in 2011? So many wigs have been snatched. They have to pick up each wig from the location and there are so many that it might take two years". Lol, that was really funny. LMAO I love the Beyhive of ATRL. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 11:07, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but do continue developing them all you can so that the reviewers who comment see that content is being written into those two, and they have a chance at being a future GA. — Legolas (talk2me) 14:00, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
