Premier Trophy (Sri Lanka)

Hi mate. Just thought I would let you know that I have started work on creating a page for the 2018–19 Premier League Tournament Tier B. I notice that you worked on Tier A but not Tier B, which is the equivalent of Division Two of the County Championship. I have done the intro, table and first round of fixtures and will gradually do more matches, but please feel free to chip in if you can! Once done, I will start on the current season (again feel free to help). Can also make adjustments to other pages that can link to these. I wonder if the existing season's articles should be moved to, for example, Premier Trophy 2018–19 Premier Trophy Tournament Tier A? Bs1jac (talk) 18:33, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

@Bs1jac: - I've gone through the red-links for debuts, etc, and created them for players who have basic details (dates of birth + full names). This includes those who top-scored or took the most wickets in an innings, but didn't already have an article. Some of them had played more than 50 FC matches too! Excellent, I was hoping you might do that, hence why I left the red-links! I will go through removing red-links from the players that are not getting pages due to lack of info. I have also created a page for the 2017–18 season with just the intro and table for now, and later will do the same for any other seasons covered in Cricinfo (at least one more; perhaps before that there was no Tier B or it didn't have first-class status). Hi mate. I have done some more work on 2019–20 Premier League Tournament Tier B. Similar to Malith de Silva, I have identified a problem with Sanjaya Ranaweera that I hope you can help with. A player by this name (born in 1986) made his FC debut in round 7. Looking him up in Cricinfo, he has played this single FC match plus 7 T20s. The player with a Wiki page is a different person (born 1981 and with different initials), who has only played a single List A match, no FC or T20. The T20 debut mentioned on Sanjaya Ranaweera should actually be for other player. Would you mind creating the second player, a dab page, and tidying the info for both players? Thanks!! Hi, I have finished another season for Tier B 2017–18 Premier League Tournament Tier B. I might do one more eventually (then before that it isn't in Cricinfo at least for a couple of years). For this one I have created pages for a few players with redlinks and removed the links for a couple of players that have no date of birth or full name in Cricinfo. Would you mind creating the few remainders? I have also added a ref for first-class debuts to some existing players but there will be more if you want to bother with those! Duplicate player

Hi again. Hoping you can help with this one. I found two players who have two pages, with slightly different spellings. They both point to the same player on Cricinfo. Sachin Jayawardena is correct, Sachin Jayawardene is wrong. Partially my fault as I miss-typed on the Tier B page and you used the red link to create the player page. Chamari Atapattu

Am I correct in assuming that you removed the "International Centuries" section from this article because it was not in the same format as/a format similar to those in other articles such as Charlotte Edwards and Meg Lanning? Or is there another reason? Bahnfrend (talk) 12:27, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Not quite. Per WP:CRIC#STYLE - "swathes of numbers or lists of awards, empty of content or context, are not appropriate for Wikipedia, and that where sections for achievements/awards are included, they should be more than just a basic list." Sorry about the slow reply. Another editor has reinstated the section and list. The subject of the article is captain of her national team, and has scored six international centuries for that team. Although I accept that one century might not be enough to justify adding a list to an article about a player, what would you say is the minimum number, bearing in mind that women cricketers play fewer matches than men, especially Test matches (only one every second year worldwide, and Ellyse Perry scored a century in each of the last two). Also, what about Heather Knight, for example? I believe she is the only woman cricketer to have scored at least one century in all three international formats. Please, do not attempt to "own" the article Lu Mei and let other editors decide what to include as well, not only yourself

Considering your edits on the article Lu Mei, and the fact that you usually delete others' editions on that page, I invite you to read Wikipedia:Ownership of content, where it is stated that "All Wikipedia content—articles, categories, templates, and other types of pages—is edited collaboratively. No one, no matter how skilled, or how standing in the community, has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular page". You rapidly writing and threatening on other editor's talk pages as soon as they include editions you dislike is another sign of attempting to own the article. You can't decied by yourself what the article includes, so I invite you to stop edit warring other's editions, you are the only one deleting them and a single person cannot decide what to include int he article. Re: Refn

The refn template was one I found a long time back – from 2012, by the looks of it! – when the cycling teams were getting season articles. Very similar to what was on that cricket page, I had started with the particular format (ref group, note N) – but was coming into no end of problems when trying to stick a reference in. Was a bit of fluke coming across the refn template, but I have relied on it, and to some extent the efn template for a notelist, ever since. Anything to save a byte or a few!

Hope all's good with you too – looks like it's going to be a quieter sporting year of attendance for me this year; especially when there's pretty much going to be no major road cycling events in the UK this year. Normally would have had a few rounds of the Tour Series, and probably a day at the Tour de Yorkshire in the books by now. Who knows what the future holds, especially with the latter. I've used the refn template in the past, but never thought of the idea of grouping together the same note together on the international cricket page. I've even used it with a ref in the template, if you still have problems with doing that. Took a lot of previews and sandbox edits before I figured it out!

Pelham Henwood - the one you've created the article for can't be the same as the one linked from List of Rhodesian representative cricketers, unless the year is wrong. Must be father and son or maybe uncle and nephew but the only reference I can find to the older one describes him as a racehorse trainer. Any ideas? Deb (talk) 18:23, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind a bit of rain here; we need it. I sort of get that idea of excitement, though it is strange to me. (It brought this sudden reversal to mind--and I grew up loathing British soccer.) I used to listen to the BBC World Service on an old tube radio before going to sleep, I loved that sound, and they'd give cricket scores, and they were incomprehensible, of course. Anyway. Help Required

Can you help in preventing this sort of issue coming in to these lists from time to time. This user who has done this doesn'thave a page so not sure how to connect with him. This is only increasing the hanging time for a page to load / update. Same issue has been raised in ODI and T20I lists as well.

2016–17 Premier League Tournament Tier B

I have finished 2016–17 Premier League Tournament Tier B. That's the last of these back-dated seasons – beyond that there are at least 2 seasons where it is not in Cricinfo, although there are older seasons, but most domestic tournaments are not covered in detail prior to 2016 so that's enough. Feel I am a bit of an expert on Sri Lankan cricket now! I have created quite a few players that had red links for that season page, but perhaps you could do the last 10 or so? Hi, hope this is the correct way to contact you! I'm new to editing Wikipedia. My sources for Vera Smith being nicknamed Vevi are as follows:

I don't know which of these sources are considered reliable or notable enough to put as references, or how I should even cite a reference for a nickname (should I put a reference directly after the nickname itself?), but she clearly was called "Vevi" by at least some publications/media, and even competed under the name "Vevi Smith" in the Canadian Championships. Conflation

Hey Lugnuts again, about Shelley Steiner-Wetterberg: I think this time I have found an article that conflates two persons. There is Shelley Steiner (participated 1984 and 1988) and Shelley Wetterberg (now Shelley Charchuk, participated in 1992). In the past SR had conflated them as well, but they were separated to Shelley Steiner and Shelley Wetterberg. See also Steiner and Wetterberg in Olympedia for their latest findings; a few Google results support this position as well. As the article creator, can you please separate them into two articles? It is frustrating when someone comes along and either changes or completely undoes an edit that you thought was beneficial to the article, but we all have to understand that our judgement is not perfect. Your edit about England playing three straight Tests at Old Trafford, for example, was a good addition to the article, but I didn't think it warranted being mentioned in the lead section as it's unlikely that that piece of trivia is what this series will be remembered for in the future. There was a better place to move it in the article, so I moved it. By the same token, you didn't think my wording was quite right so you changed it; I do think that my choice of word was right because at the time of the announcement of the tour schedule, the match hadn't been played so "would be" is a better choice of words than "was", but they both get the meaning across, so it's all good. – PeeJay 15:04, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Would you mind using edit summaries with a bit more regularity? I see why you changed "opening wicket" to "first wicket" because of the use of "openers" earlier in the sentence, but it wasn't immediately obvious. Adding an edit summary to every edit is really helpful to others who are trying to track down at what point certain changes are made and just generally good WP:WIKIQUETTE. Out of interest, why? It can be a pain, but it's useful for other editors, and lest we forget this is a collaborative project. I also find it helps with actually making you think about whether an edit is justified. I would argue that an editor could be editing in good faith and still have to explain the reasons for their edits. As you and I have proven, two editors acting completely in good faith can come to loggerheads when they both believe their version of the article is better. As with the "red ball cricket" vs "first-class cricket" example from the other day, it was clear that me writing "first-ball cricket" was a typo but instead of writing a quick edit summary to say "first-ball cricket doesn't make sense", you just reverted. I understand you might have been having a bad day that day, but that doesn't excuse all the other times when a simple edit summary might have saved you and others a whole heap of aggro. – PeeJay 16:48, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

That notability question...

Moving forward and thinking about that notability question...

So, I knocked up List of Durham UCCE & MCCU players, really just because it was missing. There are 148 of them. I sampled the Bs and the Ss - Bs is almost always the longest section (who knew...), and Ss are long here.

From the Bs:

From S it's less successful: Shan Masood (yes, him), Greg Smith (cricketer, born 1988) Will Smith (cricketer) and Cameron Steel have done so. Jhathavedh Subramanyan probably has and Abhiraj Singh possibly has (you know the situation at associate level better than I do). That's 6/22 - I think Fowler has said that something like 23% of players in the CC have played at a MCCU, so that might be about right I suppose.

This is only looking at recent players of course. Going back to the 00s, I wonder what you think of James Iles? I could go either way with him - a bit one-eventy, and if the criteria ended up suggesting he might not fit I'd be OK with it; otoh there are sources. e2a: and Tom Parsons (cricketer) would appear to fail as well - despite playing for several counties; I'm not sure how I feel about that. Jhathavedh Subramanyan was the U19 captain for Hong Kong, before moving up to the senior team, and played matches in the old World Cricket League (Div 2). Similar with Abhiraj Singh, who played multiple Div 3 matches in the WCL too. I always feel players from these teams will play more international matches, now they are part of the 2019–21 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League. If they ever get rescheduled... I agree that James Iles could go either way. On one hand he was selected to face an international touring side, but was it more of making up the numbers in a warm-up game, or did he have some potential? Looks like Parsons played in the same match, but does have a few F/C matches under his belt too, so I'd be more inclined to keep him, if it came to a head-to-head between those two. Yes, that's similar to my thoughts. I figured the international chaps were probably notable - the whole World Cricket League thing might need tightening up a little at some point, but that can wait. I can find the odd passing mention of Jones in reports of Kent Cricket League matches and so on, but nothing in depth. It brings up the "only played for or against the universities" and/or touring sides - which, frankly, don't always lead to counties playing their best sides these days.
I suppose I was wondering, if we were to think about moving to a notability criteria that essentially says "played in a match from this list", what would happen? We don't *need* to delete/redirect them, but are they really notable? I could certainly live with not having an article on Jones - and could see a position where we don't have one on Iles and, maybe Parsons. And I'd be happy to deal with the universities only chaps in lists - but I guess you figured that out :-)
I'm wondering how you'd feel about that? Is there mileage in moving towards that sort of position for modern players first? Or would that be a step(s) too far for you?

For FindAGrave there is a photograph of her name with her 2 husbands and son in their interment. For IMDB they cite John Shepek's work.

Hi, I still don't seem to understand your issue. Perhaps I am too new, but where is there any logic in the condemnation of a photographic record itself? The marriage record even gives the name of the person and their spouse in accordance with the information already available on the page. Otto did in fact marry Segunda on 6 October 1925 in Los Angeles. The scan of this marriage licence is public information provided from a government source to the genealogy site which can be freely accessed to the public given the registration of a simple account. You seem to have completely removed all my edits without even checking the sources yourself. Otto's passport record from the US Government available on FamilySearch states his father's name and birthdate and location and yet you remove that as well. I am not citing a random person's family tree, I'm citing a government source...

"Winmdows" and "orphans" are copy-editing terms (dating from the pre-computer age) for lines where a single word or partial word, or in some case a much less than full line, is left on a page different from the rest of the paragraph to which it belongs. See Widows and orphans. Here I believe Pigsonthewing is using it more generally to mean unwanted line breaks which leave a date or value split across a line, instead of all together on a single line. If I am not mistaken, the MOS calls for using non-breaking spaces between the partts of a date, and be tween a value and a unit, so avoid such unwanted line breaks. I re-added it a few hours later, because the toss had taken place for the t20 Blast game, and he was in the playing eleven! IE - he had then played for the team, not before. Why should I wait a "few minutes"? If it only take a few minutes to find the source, then find it, and then add it. Don't add unsourced content and leave it. Firstly, their are many other articles which are edited like that. (Ok, Leave this topic I think you won't understand) Secondly, I usually add source within few minutes. But what you do is you can't even wait for a minute and revert those edits. Have patience man. Infoboxes of international footballers

Hello, I noticed you have created a number of international footballers who were Olympic reserve players, thanks for your contributions. However, I noticed you included the number of appearances and years for the player's international career in the lead, but not in the infobox. Do you think you could also add the parameters |nationalyears1=, |nationalcaps1= and |nationalgoals1= to the infobox? Production credits

You deleted production credits from the Virginia article with a edit summary stating that "we" don't do that on film articles. Is there a policy and guideline that supports that? It strikes me, frankly, as absurd that we would prohibit such important aspects of a film's history. These are the artists and craftsmen responsible for creating the film and who are credited up front on the screen? There is no space limitation on a film's Wikipedia article. Hi there. I was looking at the Warner Bros Interactive page and I noticed it is still part of Home Entertainment. Other pages state that it is part of Warner Bros Entertainment directly while Home Entertainment is moved to WarnerMedia Commercial. Which one is true? All matches starting under lights are classed as D/N on here. There are some T20I matches that have started at 19:00 local time, that are clearly night matches, but are listed as D/N.
