Hey

We don't know each other, and I'm just some random person on the internet who just saw your latest edit to this page. I think I get it, and I know that feeling, I've had it before. It passed, and I really believe that it will for you too. I don't know what to say, except that if you need someone to talk, even if it is just a random internet person, my email is always open -- I really mean that. Please take care, and please tell me if there's anything I can do for you. All the best, Blablubbs|talk 21:00, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, random! Means a lot. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:21, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Re: The info box above

Regarding the encyclopedia: I can imagine your motivation being low recently, but the appreciation of your work here goes beyond what people say in threads at ANI. A lot of good people turn mean when they post at ANI, for reasons I don't quite understand. I think there's a ton of appreciation of your work from your fellow content creators, you just have to filter out the institutional meanness.

Regarding life: I don't know you, so I can't do much more than give a weak "please hang in there". But please hang in there.

Hope to see you around here again, whenever you feel like it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:01, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Thinking about you

Hi Lugnuts. I saw what happened, and I want to say that I am praying for you. I just want to let you know that I have had similar issues. OCD and Depression are illnesses where it seems like the world is ending. This is not the case at all. Back in 2016, I had to temporarily drop out of school because I could not stop ritualizing. I genuinely thought that I was a failure with no purpose in life. I got the help that I needed, and I realized that there is always hope for these illnesses. Most of us here think your contributions are valuable, even though issues like this arise at times. If we didn't, it would be much more obvious to you. I would not have supported limiting you to AFC or revoking your autopatrol status, but I would have suggested getting approval for your rapid content creation. I understand that many editors object to stubs on small villages, but if you can find a reliable source for them, approval may not be out of the question. Peace. Scorpions13256 (talk) 21:19, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Scorps. Whatever happens, revokes, AfC, or other, it's not the end of the world. Hopefully it won't come to that. I take it day by day. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:26, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Remember User talk:Lugnuts/Archive 50#Precious? ... from the cabal of the outcast? I missed it all, avoiding everything in the WP:Great Dismal Swamp as much as I can. We don't want to miss you as well, do you understand? ... as too many others already. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:01, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Gerda. I did some great work back then. And have done some great work since then. Time to carry on the good work. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:32, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

You are appreciated

I am not sure what happened, but please remember how much your work is appreciated. I meant every word of it when I thanked you last for your many contributions to historically neglected topics in historically neglected topic areas. Yes, many of your articles are yet to be destubbed, but many have, and I'm sure the rest will follow, later if not sooner, it's not like we're working on a deadline. And, I have seen you, yourself, go back to stubs you created to add content when new sources become available. The value of your stubs, above all, I firmly believe, is in showing to new readers (all potential contributors) from around the world, that the topics they care about, know a little about, and think are important, are important to wikipedia too. Wikipedia has grown up a lot, and I think people forget it's still 2001 in most topics that would make up a sum of all human knowledge. Usedtobecool ☎️ 09:59, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

The problem with Wikipedia is that if people want to make an issue out of things, then they will do. And it can often just be a case of who can shout the loudest. Hope these ANI threads don't mean that you'll be leaving, as you do do good work. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks both. Potential is a great word when it comes to stubs. I've lost count of how many have been expanded since I started the initial entry. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:34, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Valued

Hi there, I only just saw the carnage. I hope you are ok? Your cricket contributions are highly appreciated and I know that you are a legend on the Emerging Cricket podcast! I was merely a very occasional WP editor for a number of years before really getting stuck into the cricket scene, partially thanks to your encouragement and mentorship. A good "virtual" friend too with your witty remarks. Sure hope you will be back soon. Bs1jac (talk) 11:49, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I'm OK now, thanks. It's nice to hear that my expeirence can be used to mentor others. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:35, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks

I didnt realise how bad things turned out in a short amount of time. I hope you are alright. Your contributions are appreciated by a large number editors in Wikipedia. And I think some people ganging up on you in the ANI shouldnt be the reason why you should back down. I know its a challenging time for you but you need to realise that enjoying your life is equally important. I cant forget the numerous times you have me become a better editor. The cricket articles need your help. Come back soon, Brother! Human (talk) 18:00, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello, thanks and apologies

Hello. A couple of days ago, I had time to pause for reflection on a lot of things, on wiki and off. I'm in a much better place now, and I want to thank everyone who has reached out. Essentially complete strangers contacting another stranger to see how they are. That has to give you faith in the world. Apologies to anyone who thought the worst, I did not mean to worry you unnecessarily. I'm here to do what I do best, day in, day out.

And for any cynic out there who thought it was a cheap attempt to get out of an ANI thread, I have no issue if that thread is re-opened, re-started, or started from afresh. I made a mistake in using a source I thought was fine, which I will fix. I believe that has no impact on other areas of work I spend my time on, including, but not limited to sports and films.

Thank again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:20, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Glad you're back. Sorry you had to go through that. FWIW, I had a period of turmoil about thirteen years ago where I very nearly left for good. When you go through a patch like the one you were just through, it's hard to see how much you are appreciated. Glad you are back. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:06, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Hey. Seeing that thread on AN/I was pretty upsetting, and I am really glad to see you pop up and post again. It's been a terrible year for a lot of people and...I'm just really happy to see that you're feeling better and that nothing irreversible happened. We may be a community that likes to get into vicious fights about en-dashes, but it still hurts to see good-faith contributors suffering. Good to see you back

Hi mate, good to see you back! Always remember that the majority of us appreciate your edits and creations. Your contribution to cricket articles and cricket in general on Wikipedia is second to none and hopefully once everything's been sorted out those moaning about your stubs because they don't like cricket and have nothing better to do will move on to moaning about something else. Was concerned I was going to have to create the articles for the start of the English season so thank God you're back on that front haha. Keep being you, if everyone on Wikipedia was the same it'd be a boring place to be. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 20:14, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Apologies

Hi, I wanted to apologize for the way things went down at ANI. This was one of those times when an individual editor's actions became a sort of proxy for a larger policy dispute, and you didn't deserve to be at the middle of it. Even if we don't always agree, your work here is valued and I hope to see you around. –dlthewave 02:15, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Hii Lugnuts, Indeed you were right in reverting me on Indian cricket team in England in 2021. However, Where will be test matches telecasted these summer when India will tour U.K, Doesn't Channel 4 also won the right for this summer tour of India also ??? Holy Contributor 92 (talk) 17:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Pretty sure Sky Sports will show the England home fixtures this summer. However, the deal for the Test matches in India on Channel4 only happened a few days before the first Test. I guess Sky, C4, and maybe BT Sports will bid for them closer to the day. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:38, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Stats

There is a style manual for the sport project and I certainly didn't write it myself Wikipedia:WikiProject Athletics/Manual of Style/Biographies. However, if that's okay with you, we could go and ask the sport project if the progression section I put in (and that you deleted me) can be kept instead. --Kasper2006 (talk) 18:10, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

You could ask, but it would still fail WP:NOTSTATS. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:13, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
In an encyclopedia we should add, not remove. And it's not true that athlete statistics are deprecated. For example see the article on Usain Bolt where there are even graphs. --Kasper2006 (talk) 18:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Have some respect for other users and don't randomly delete other's edits. This is your last warning. Have some respect and don't delete other's edits, like you did on one page. If this happens again, formal action will be taken. Sabrefencercanada (talk) 18:48, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
How formal? Smart-casual, or do I need to get my tux from the dry-cleaner? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:51, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh, definitely the tux. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:53, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
  • I was a bit confused by this discussion between you and Kaspar2006, because you've both put considerable effort into building athlete biographies and related data. Reading the recently discussions at ANI, I can see the context. I'd strongly suggest to take a short break from editing. Clearly you're challenging Kaspar's material because you're angry that similar edits by yourself have been challenged recently. The best response to that problem is to seek support from similar editors, not lash out at them. I have a rule for myself not to edit when I'm angry or upset about something, and only to return to editing when I have got some perspective on that. Honestly, you are better than this and your life is much too valuable to waste it getting into disputes with unrelated parties over things that you don't think are problematic (considering your past work). Take care SFB 20:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Hope everything is okay

Hello, Lugnuts. I've had little WP availability in the last week and I'm just following links to catch up with what's been going on. One of the links led me to the latest debate at NSPORT which gets more and more like Hansard every time I look at it! Well, I saw a mention of you which worried me. Long story short, I'm really glad to see that you are editing again. I'm only in the outfield as far as cricket coverage goes, though I think I will stay on the field rather than disappear back into the crowd. You, however, are playing a great innings and, whenever you reach a score that entitles you to raise your bat, everyone should applaud you.

I won't say too much about the cufts (don't ask) on this site except that they do sometimes get right under your skin and make you wonder if it's worthwhile staying here. I had an experience like that last autumn which totally alienated me for a time so I understand how you must have felt a few days ago. I had messages of support from several people and I decided, as you have done, to pick up the pieces. I think you have made the right decision, especially in times like these when we all need special interests to keep us going.

I appreciate all the help you gave me at NSPORT and in some other places too. If I can be of help to you anytime, even if you just want to have a chat, do please give me a shout. I do have periods when I just can't get online because of personal matters but I try to stay in touch. Keep up the great work, mate. All the very best, look after yourself and stay safe. DYK for Do Not Split

On 4 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Do Not Split, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after Do Not Split received an Oscar nomination, the Chinese government reportedly told local media to downplay the awards? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Do Not Split. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Do Not Split), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Turkish villages

Hello, Lugnuts. I see that you have been targeted by the censorship clique for introducing articles about Turkish villages. Well, my wife and I have some wonderful memories of Turkey and the more there is on this site about such a marvellous country, the better. I've contacted a friend of ours who lives in Bursa to see if she can recommend anything in the way of a gazetteer that may contain information about villages. She has suggested Turkcebilgi.com which does just that and she thinks it should meet WP:RS.

Choosing one at random, this is the page on Yukarıyeniköy, Refahiye. Using the Google translator, although that doesn't always provide full context, it says: (redacted)

Not quite sure what to make of "15 digits" but otherwise this looks as if it could be useful. It certainly proves that the stubs can all, potentially, be expanded. What do you think? No Great Shaker (talk) 15:46, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello again, Lugnuts. We'd better forget this site. I asked Nyxaros about it and been told it cites WP as a source. See their [[1]]. The good news is that Nyxaros has put some WP:RS in the article. No Great Shaker (talk) 08:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, even on the Yukarıyeniköy page, it states: "References: Click for Yerelnet information, click for erzincanliyiz.biz information, click for Yukarıyeniköy bird's eye view picture" and then somehow "resources: Wikipedia". The only reference link that is not dead is Google Maps. It is a terribly written article so you can't expect Google Translate to do wonders. ภץאคгöร 10:07, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

second-highest score in an ODI defeat-193 is not trivial. It is an important achievement in the career of Fakhar Zaman (cricketer) , like Sachin Tendulkar's 175 is the then third-highest score in an ODI defeat, behind Charles Coventry's 194*, and Mathew Hayden's 181*.

Font tags in sig

Hi, just wondering if you would be willing to update your sig to change the font tags to span tags? The reason is that font tags are deprecated and show up at Lint errors, so it's best not to use them for new content. Thanks. -- WOSlinker (talk) 10:07, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

ANI notice

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.FOARP (talk) 20:35, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

Hey

Hi Lugnuts - I don't want to harass you, or to pile on the pressure or anything. I saw that you'd been editing actively since my question at ANI - if you're thinking about how to respond, that's fine, take your time, but I'd appreciate a response if you'd be willing to give it.

Can I set out where I'm coming from? From where I'm standing, the content of that article, even the existence of its subject, are both unverifiable from the source used. We know that there's a 'Yeni administrator', so it seems likely that there's something called Yeni there, but goodness knows what it is - a village so small it's not on the map? A subdivision of a larger town? A planned development that hasn't got anything built on it yet, but has an administrator already appointed? An administrative position that is unrelated to a particular geographic feature? I don't know, but it took me about half an hour to get to the point where I'm thinking 'this should go to AfD'. No big deal, but if there are thousands of articles like that which need to be checked, it becomes a bigger deal.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on whether creations like this are beneficial to the project, or if it wouldn't be better to spend a bit longer ensuring that a source definitely confirms what the thing we're talking about is, without us having to infer it from the existence of something else. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 11:08, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

@Girth Summit: - Ha! I literally just replied before you posted this here! Sorry, the new cricket season just started in England, and that was/is my priority for the morning. Along with a spot of lunch. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:09, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Lugnuts, ah, so you did! OK, crack on with the cricket. Never really my thing (we didn't play it at school in Glasgow), but since moving to England I've learned that it's a Big Deal. GirthSummit (blether) 11:11, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Yeni

Hi again. I couldn't do a deep dive, but this one lists someone named Osman Mallı as its muhtar under "local administrative unions", implying that Yeni is a neighbourhood unit/village. This doesn't mention Yeni as one of the villages of the area. Other refs that I've found ([6], [7], [8], [9]) are dead ends. It seems unlikely that it is even a tiny village, sorry. Take care. ภץאคгöร 18:57, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

No worries - thanks for taking a look! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Villages in Aziziye District requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". GFDL

Hi! You uploaded many photos in 2009 and 2010 of Pearl Jam. The latest uploads are licensed {{GFDL}} and {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} . But these files are GFDL only:

  1. File:PearlJamShepherdsBush03.jpg
  2. File:PearlJamShepherdsBush02.jpg
  3. File:PearlJamShepherdsBush01.jpg
  4. File:ShepherdsBushEmpire.jpg
  5. File:PearlJamGermany2007 04.JPG
  6. File:PearlJamGermany2007 03.JPG
  7. File:PearlJamGermany2007 02.JPG
  8. File:PearlJamGermany2007 01.JPG

GFDL is not a good license for photos so I wonder if you would be willing to also add {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to the files? --MGA73 (talk) 16:48, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

@MGA73: - I don't know anything about the license tags when it comes to pictures. Along with all these images, I took all those pics myself with the camera in my cold, dead hands. As long as they aren't being deleted, you can tag them with anything. Ta. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:22, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much. But it is better if you add the license yourself or at least say "Yes I agree to cc-by-sa-3.0". The license specify how your images can be used. And if you chose the cc-license the photo can be used with a short text saying that the photo was taken by Lugnuts but with GFDL we have to include like 7 pages of text telling what GFDL is. And I agree that it would be a shame to delete them so I have no plans to do so :-) --MGA73 (talk) 18:58, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
@MGA73: I've tagged all of them now with the cc-3.0 template. I was going to tag File:PearlJam-Copenhagen-2012.jpg (and others) too, but it already has the tag! Let me know if I need to do anything else. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:03, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

African footballers

May I ask why you choose to omit the birthplace, position and teams played for from the infobox and the categories? Especially when they're readily available on the NFT source you use. JTtheOG (talk) 18:22, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi. The majority of them don't seem to have the birthplace. For the teams, I'm unsure what to include TBH. For example, for Florent Baloki you added 16 categories. One of them is Category:K.V. Kortrijk players. The team listed on NFT is "KV Kortrijk", and not "K.V. Kortrijk". Also, it lists this club, but no matches. Same with ASEC Mimosas Abidjan. So was he signed with those clubs, but did not play? If the latter, then why would have a category for a club he never actually played for? Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:31, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I also came to say the same thing. If NFT shows the position, you can easily add it. Same for the club. The reason why NFT shows (-) for appearances and goals is because they are unknown, but the player was still a player for the clubs. And this would be the case even if they didn't play any game at all. The rule is: if the were part of a team (even without having played, or even if we don't know that he played), we should include the team in both the infobox and as a category (Category:X F.C. players). Whereas, the league category (Category: X League players) should only be included if we know that they have played at least one game. Regarding K.V. and KV Kortrijk: it's the same club. It's just inconsistency with how different people deal with acronyms. Nehme1499 19:39, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Well I don't want to add the wrong categories. And if someone can add 16 of them in one second, then it's probably best left to those who know more about the minutiae than myself. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:42, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Ok but we don't add them for fun. It would be much easier for us for you to add them, so we can just review the page quicker. Remember to also add the clubs and position in the infobox. Nehme1499 20:37, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for all your contributions to the Wiki, but I don't think a player's place of birth and position is really minutiae. The question about the clubs and leagues is understandably more nuanced, but if you're gonna be creating dozens of articles at a time the least you can do is fill out these cats. Category ordering

Hi there. Is this edit some inside joke I don't get? Robby.is.on (talk) 13:53, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I've always put the year first before the living category on biographies. Once the subject is deceased, then the birth/death year will be in order too. And WP isn't the place for jokes, it's very serious. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 13:58, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
And that personal preference warrants an edit in itself? Others obviously disagree about this sorting order. I don't feel strongly about it but could you please avoid filling people's watchlists with changes of this kind? Robby.is.on (talk) 14:15, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Take it off your watchlist if it bothers you. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:18, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Well I'm glad you're not making a big deal out of it. Oh. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:24, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Some pages are watched by many editors so changes of this kind could end up on many people's watchlists. Hence, I thought this request on your Talk page would be a good investment of time. Again, not being a prophet I couldn't foresee you'd react this way. Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:29, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Giro riders GT timelines mistake

Hello Lugnuts. I've noticed that you devotedly went through every 2021 Giro d'Italia starter and added the 2021 column to their palmares timeline. However, you added "—" to their 2021 Tour and Vuelta box. First of all, those two races have not yet taken place so they should remain empty, and a quick example of Jonathan Castroviejo who will most likely start the Tour as well makes this very wrong. I'm not sure if you use an automated machine that can help you fix this, but around 200 articles carry this issue now. And on a small sidenote, I've recently spent a lot of time on Women cyclist pages, and I've came across so many pages created by you mostly in 2015 that do not have a Major Results section. Of course in 2015 a lot of them barely had any results, but I'm sure they had something notable. So yeah where possible, when you create new pages try to add their results on-I try to keep up with every womens race now so hopefully they all stay updated. Thanks a lot for your work and time mate! LegofanCy (talk) 14:53, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lego! I go on the logic of "Has X rider rode in the race" as of the time of the edit. And the answer for the Tour or Vuelta is "no", hence the "—". With the best part of 200 riders in the Giro, there's a lot of scope for the lesser-known names to simply be forgotten about, and come the end of the year, their timeline would have an empty box (or boxes) and not the "—". If Castroviejo does indeed start the Tour, then that can be changed. I think the current climate is a perfect example of saying that right now, he has not started the race, if indeed the race takes place! Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:57, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
@LegofanCy: Mikel Landa is an (unfortunate) example of someone down for the Giro and Tour, but probablt won't start the latter with a broken collar bone and ribs. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:20, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lugnuts, for Belgian international football players, you can use this instead of the rather dodgy looking eu-football.info. E.g. for Alfons Dresen, they have this which lists all his selections and actual caps, and here the clubs he played for. Fram (talk) 12:24, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

The guideline says: «If this parameter is omitted, the name of the article is used.» Which in my view means that, in the event that the name of the person is the same as that of the article, it is advisable to omit it. May I know why you think you read in this instead that it is appropriate to add it? It is possible that you are right and I am wrong, which is why I have asked the same question in some projects as well. --Kasper2006 (talk) 15:25, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

About Linking sub sections

Greetings sir. I have a doubt about linking sub sections. New Zealand vs India subsection of 2019 section worked for linking. While, For example, Freedom Trophy (India v South Africa) subsection of 2019 section - not worked. How to link this sort of sub section in other article sir? Thanks in advance:) Kirubar (talk) 18:56, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi. What are you trying to link to on which article? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 18:59, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Sir, 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship Final on creating the section Road to the final. For series results, I tried to link as India won the series 2-0. This worked. But for India vs South Africa, I tried India won the series 3-0. It's not direct to the Freedom Trophy (India v South Africa),only to the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. I ended up with directing to the separate series pages of each tour. Is it looks fine? Please check 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship Final#Road to the final. Thanks:) Kirubar (talk) 02:36, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

International cricket in 2021

Hello, How are You? Hope all are safe in this Pandemic. Recently, I visited Cricinfo site, they have included SL vs BAN test Series, ZIM vs PAK Test and T20I series, RSA va PAK ODI and T20I series, Uganda tour of Nam and Nepal T20I Tri-Series in International cricket in 2021. So why we have included all these series in International cricket in 2020-21 ? (Aditya tamhankar, TALK), 19:17 (IST) Aditya tamhankar (talk) 13:47, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi. There's a bit of an overlap/nuance with the season. The traditional dates are May to August for the 2021 year, with all of those tours falling into 2020–21 (September to April). Note that the ICC does its annual rankings update in May, to reflect the tours completed upto and including April. The Nepal tri-series can be found at Associate international cricket in 2020–21. The main thing is that we've got them all included! Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:09, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Strange behavior ?

When I start writing (or “Moaning”, as you say), it is because I only try to improve articles and render those articles more complete and understand by everyone. If I replace BS by Brescia it is only because Atletica Brescia 1950 [it] (shortened in Atl Bs ´50) is the main Athletic Club in Brescia (official site here), and every people in Italy knows that BS is the 2-letter code digit for Brescia, but perhaps 99% of the people, especially English speakers, doesn’t necessarily know that BS=Brescia, in Italy. The sponsor name of this club is Metallurgica San Marco (an Italian society in Brescia, an industrial town of North Italy). But the naming of the club is changing after new sponsoring. If you think that you have done a good contribution to WP undoing Brescia > Bs, it is only because you have a strange manner of behaving — pretending to follow strictly WP rules and just undoing a good faith contribution because it is not your idea. You have no property on an article you have created. And when I add info I did not take it from my imagination but only reading facts and sources (good ones) elsewhere. So please try to be more fair in your manners. Or I will report to Admins.--Arorae (talk) 12:03, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

You need to source ALL content you add, esp. to biographies of living people. Yes, BS=Brescia might be WP:OBVIOUS to you, but that's a very bad assumption to have. I'll be fair if you simply cite content when you add it. Good luck in your report! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:06, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

County Championship Stats

Hi, I am trying to fully update Ollie Pope's page but am struggling to find a source of county championship stats, eg a list of innings. Is there somewhere you find these domestic stats, as it seems cricinfo only has test records? Would be grateful for some help here! Thanks, DansterTheManster (talk) 20:14, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

@DansterTheManster: Cricinfo (and other sites) only break it down by FC/LA/T20 stats, and that's what we replicate here too. You can find stats for individual seasons, but not stats for just the County Championship, or T20 blast, etc. Sorry! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:20, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Very strange behaviour at India in Bangladesh

Hi. I couldn't just understand your motive right there. You moved the article to draft space. But you again created that one with a redirection. That's not the proper way. You should have moved the draft to article first of all and then redirected. But now because of you, there are two separate articles in two namespaces.  A.A Prinon  Leave a dialogue 13:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

It seems that you have taken this strange action for getting credit of creating artile. 2019 Victoria Cup

Good evening. I just noticed that someone moved 2019 Victoria Tri-Series to the generic 2019 Uganda women's Tri-Nation Series with an edit note of "Trying to keep it consist with the rest of them". I disagree with this as the tournament is a recurring event with a specific name (and that name is used in Cricinfo). Indeed it is planned to take place again in August this year. The first line of the article has even been changed to include "more commonly known as the 2019 Victoria Tri-Series". Technically could just be 2019 Victoria Cup although I expect that could refer to other things. Not sure of the best way to move something back. Bs1jac (talk) 21:17, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Morning! Yes, looks like Victoria Tri-Series is the common-name, so that's probably the best title. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:39, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

A Better Approach

Coming from ANI, on an unrelated issue to yours, Bradv gave me an imperative technique to use in situations like this, which I thought wise to relay to you, the technique is this; rather than call them socks, you could just silently monitor their edits and negate any shady attempt of theirs without being controversial about it, it’s a less ferocious attempt but very much effective, if they apply for Autopatrol, and they get granted, allow them whilst you still continue to watch their every move very closely & if you notice them creating shady articles, you can send the articles to AFD, keep doing that and they themselves would burn out eventually. Celestina007 (talk) 15:42, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks Celestina007. The more disturbing message is that if you are abusing four accounts to vote-stack AfDs, and get caught, then that's OK. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:44, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
It’s crazy! to say the least. Everyday it’s as if the community is ready to sacrifice long standing good faith editors for obvious bad faith “new” editors. It’s baffling and not plausible to common sense. Celestina007 (talk) 15:48, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Crazy is one word for it. Thanks for the advice here too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:56, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Regarding my comment at ANI, it was more about doing our due diligence to ensure that content is neutral and verifiable, rather than suggesting we aggressively stalk other editors. But the point remains – if someone is engaged in undisclosed paid editing, the best way to put them out of business is to render those efforts fruitless. – bradv🍁 16:05, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

WTC Final Infobox

Hi, sir. In the page, WTC Final, there is an limited overs final infobox which is having one score and overs column for each team. Omar Garcia

Please see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (sportspeople)#Association football (soccer) which says to use the "most conclusive" of nationality, year of birth, or position. In 99% of cases - and this is a long established standard - that is year of birth, given nationality tends to be fluid (see Ricky Shakes example) and there are often multiple players of the same name and nationality. Let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 14:14, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: "most conclusive" and the very next line is "If the footballers have different nationalities, use their nationality in the disambiguation". That goes hand-in-hand with WP:NCPDAB which also states "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it)". So why are footballers exempt from this? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:16, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
The ordering is not an order of preference or anything like that, so don't be fooled. Nationality is far more fluid in football than it is in other sports - did you even click the Ricky Shakes page I suggested? - and disambiguating by YOB is actually preferred, purely because that is the most conclusive in most cases. Feel free to post at WT:FOOTBALL if you won't believe me, but there's also plenty of recent RM consensus! GiantSnowman 14:19, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
The Shakes article doesn't need to be disambig'd. These two players have only played for Spain or Argentina, with the latter never going to play for any other team, so hardly "fluid". The "and disambiguating by YOB is actually preferred" - preferred by who? And why is that OK to go against the naming convention guidance of your own project?! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:22, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
No, but what if Shakes did - how would you disambiguate by nationality? Or any of the other thousands of players who have dual nationality? The Spanish player never played for Spain, unsure where you're getting that from, he played domestic football in Spain and England? What about the other Spanish footballers called Omar Garcia who don't (yet) have articles? It's ambiguous. Also really confused by the "why is that OK to go against the naming convention guidance of your own project" comment - the naming convention says use nationality OR year of birth OR position, whichever is "most conclusive" (again, that is not an order of preference!), and we tend to use year of birth in most cases - so my article names fully match the naming convention guide and WikiProject standards? GiantSnowman 14:28, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
That's a weak argument to say what if there were two Shakes, as there are not. Yes, the Spanish player has never played for Spain, but he's obviously Spanish (by your own admission). So you are "unsure where you're getting that from"? Really? Someone born and in Spain and lives/works in Spain? And "so my article names fully match the naming convention guide and WikiProject standards? " is a question, so are you unsure yourself on your own guidelines? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:32, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
You said the Spanish player had played for Spain. I simply said he had not and queried why you thought he had. There is no dispute that he is Spanish. Bizarre.
No, don't worry, after 15 years I am more then familiar with how naming conventions/WikiProject standards work for football-related articles. The reason I included a question mark was (clearly, I thought, obviously not) because you said "And why is that OK to go against the naming convention guidance of your own project?!". Perhaps I should have replied "my article names fully match the naming convention guide and WikiProject standards, so I am unsure why you are under the misapprehension that it does not. GiantSnowman 14:38, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
That's super. "my article names..." Ahh, I now see why you did the rude/bad-faith revert. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:49, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

cricket at 2022 Commonwealth

Hey, I was reading the news about cricket at 2022 Commonwealth Games. It states that ICC has given Official WT20I status to all matches that will be played in the tournament, So as per the news, if like Barbados Women gets qualified from West Indies Regional Qualifier, then matches involving Barbados Women's cricket will carry Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status?? Aditya Tamhankar (talk), 20th June 2021, 20:33 (IST)

Hi. Bit of guess-work at the minute. Barbados are not an Associate team of the ICC, so they wouldn't get automatic WT20I status. However, they could get temporary WT20I for those matches, or it might be the case that all matches involving Barbados will not have full WT20I status. I guess watch this space and see what the ICC does. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:07, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Leslie Gooden

Gday Lugnuts, sadly the Encyclopaedia of Australian cricket players only has the most basic info on non-Test players like Gooden (just his stats and DoB/DoD). I ordered it thinking it would be more detailed. Cheers, --Roisterer (talk) 00:59, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Morning! No worries - thanks for the info. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:26, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Any interest in creating rugby union player articles?

Hi there mate, was wondering if you had any interest in creating some articles for players who played in Rugby World Cups? There's a significant number of red links on all rugby world cup squads from 1987 to 2003, and I was hoping to get some created and know you've created some rugby union articles in the past. All the red links on the relevant squad pages (1987, 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003) are correct links, although the templates are likely out of date. If you're not interest no worries, just thought'd I'd ask. Many thanks. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 19:47, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for pointing those out - didn't think there would be any redlinks from the recent(ish) World Cups TBH. Yes, happy to take a look at them. I have created a few rugby articles in the past. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:52, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
I've personally filled all red links in from 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 World Cups, but I've struggled to motivate myself to go any further back. I've though been through all the squads from 1987 to check they're notable (i.e. either played at the World Cup or have notable international caps in other matches) and removed links from non-notable players. Many of them will be smaller nations but even just creating stubs on them could increase editing on them or surrounding their nations. Many thanks for having a look at them though and any questions on any of them just ask. Rugbyfan22 (talk) 19:56, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

Icc world test championship date line problem

Is it wrong to write 5-day + reserve day match near the date in the final of icc world test championship I saw it was written y day match near the 2005 ICC Super Series super test so though this was not original a 6 day match writing 5-day + reserve day match means a lot for the article Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:18, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Best to raise it on the talkpage of the article. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:44, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Article Discussion

Hey, I hope you are having a great day. I have wrote a article about a footballer User:Brascoian/Palauni Tapusoa and i would love if you check it out give some review because i was concerned of this getting Speedy Deleted. Brascoian (talk to me) 12:29, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Brascoian: - yes a great day here, thanks! I don't know that much about football(ers) TBH, hence why I'm sticking with international players. What little I do know about the guides for individuals is that 1) they need to have played in a fully professional league and 2) I'm pretty sure transfermarkt.com is NOT a reliable source, and should not be used. However, I recommend you get a more expert response via the Football Project's talkpage. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:40, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Ok Thanks. Brascoian (talk to me) 12:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi. As I said yesterday, I don't really know much about football, including the intricacies of the notability for non-international players. Please ask at WT:FOOTY for more advice. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:45, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Sorry for disturbing you again and again but j created another article: Nick DiGiovanni i releaized my mistake last time and i created this article because the person is a harvard graduate chef, Master Chef season 10 finalist, In 2021 Forbes 30 Under 30 in Food Drinks but some editor asked for Rfd. Saying its not Notable enough. Need your help. Brascoian (talk to me) 02:11, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry this is a subject area I have no knowledge and/or interest in. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 06:50, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Template:Single-innings cricket match

Afternoon! Query for you, regarding Template:Single-innings cricket match. The template states that if two players have the joint highset score in an innings, then the one who faced fewer balls should be listed (makes sense, of course). However, I have always assumed that a not out trumps this, i.e. 100* is better than 100. The reason being that Cricinfo lists records of highest innings scores in this way (with not outs always listed higher than 'outs'). While technically true that the template doesn't specify this, it would logical to align with the primary source used for most scorecards. I mean, when one batsmen scores much faster they do deserve the mention more, but then sometimes we list a player who scored 50 from 50 balls and not the one who scored 49 from 10. Just wondered what you thought (it happened in the 2021 Sofia Twenty20 today). Bs1jac (talk) 17:00, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

The talk page does actually make the same point, i.e balls ignored in case of not out vs out, although this isn't reflected in the summary Bs1jac (talk) 17:05, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Evening! Funny you should ask this, as I asked the same question about a year ago. While nothing was formally agreed for the documentation, there was a consensus that a not out beats an out. So yes, I agree 100* beats 100. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 17:15, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

On 24 June 2021, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final, which you created. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. PFHLai (talk) 18:20, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Cricket Sourcing

Hey Lugnuts. I noticed that what I had added to the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final page had been removed (for valid reason of course). I was just wondering if espncricinfo is considered a valid source, as it is used as the basis of multiple other cricket-related articles on Wikipedia. Thanks! Raps19 (talk) 22:00, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, Cricinfo is a valid source, and probably the number one source for cricket articles on WP. Apart from basic stuff such as match debuts, the scorecards themselves are rarely used as sources, instead we stick to news reports, etc from their main site. Thanks.
