Why? I Ask (talk) 21:46, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mclsssje -- I've accepted this draft. Sorry you've had such a rough ride getting it published. I'd suggest where you have a subject that clearly meets WP:PROF in future you create in your userspace and move it to mainspace when it is thoroughly referenced. Articles for Creation often doesn't handle articles on academics correctly. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 06:22, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, another editor noted that the photograph caption date of 2012 is at odds with the photograph's own date of 2015, also in the exif data -- is there an error? Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 08:28, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this. I think there must be. I can check this out and make changes if needed. 81.102.217.27 (talk) 08:33, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed it. Thanks for spotting this. Mclsssje (talk) 08:36, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, both. Espresso Addict (talk) 08:49, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mclsssje. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Stephen Eichhorn, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:41, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm adding the above based upon comments made at c:User talk:Mclsssje related to files you've uploaded of Eichhorn. You seem have been able to quite easily and quickly contact Eicchorn about issues related to the image licensing, which is at least giving the impression of an WP:APPARENTCOI. If you're connected to Eichhorn personally or professionally, or have entered any type of agreement (verbal or otherwise) to create or edit content related to him on Wikipedia, I strongly suggest you carefully read through the pages linked to in the template I added above. The same applies to anyone else you may be connected to for whom you're creating or editing Wikipedia content. Having a conflict of interest, even being paid by someone, doesn't mean you can't edit or create content, but it does mean you will need to do so in compliance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Failure to do so might lead to an administrator blocking your account, so please be careful. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:48, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thankyou for the information. I have read it and will make declarations where appropriate. Mclsssje (talk) 11:00, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just for reference, {{Connected contributor}} template should be added to article/draft talk pages. They typically are added at the bottom of the talk page header per WP:TALKLEAD. You might also consider adding a declaration in the form of the userbox {{Userbox COI}} to your userpage. You need to be very careful to make sure you adhere to WP:PAID (if it applies to your situation) because undisclosed "paid" contributions are a violation of Wikipedia's Terms of Use. This is one area of Wikipedia editing in which there is almost zero room for error accounts suspected of undisclosed paid editing tend to be dealt with harshly. You should also be aware that many of the Wikipedia editing take a very dim view of COI editing and PAID editing regardless of whether it's done according to relevant policies and guidelines; so, you might want to follow the advice given in WP:PSCOI#Steps for engagement and WP:COIADVICE with respect to subjects for which you have declared a COI. Working on drafts should be OK, but you should try to avoid editing such articles directly whenever possible and use their corresponding article talk pages to make edit requests instead. It might be a good idea for you to also take a look at WP:BLP, WP:OWN, WP:LUC and WP:PROUD and explain what they say to the people you're creating articles about. Finally, you should also try to remember to log in when you edit to avoid any misunderstandings; IP editing isn't prohibited, but your IP address will be visible in the page's history and it could possibly be mistaken for WP:SOCKPUPPETRY. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:10, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Connected contributor is for use on article talk pages, not user talk pages. If you want to add a template to your user page User:Mclsssje, then click on the WP:REDLINK and add Template:Userbox COI or Template:Paid instead. Instructions on how to use each template can be found on their respective Wikipedia pages. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:24, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Leon Tikly requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://research-information.bris.ac.uk/en/persons/leon-p-tikly and https://www.educaid.be/nl/leon-tikly. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Control copyright icon Hello Mclsssje! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:24, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the draft because even with the small amount of text you removed, there remained more text copied and closely paraphrased from other sources. I suggest that you do not copy and alter text in the hopes that changes are enough to no longer be a copyright issue. Instead, write the entire draft in your own words. -- Whpq (talk) 12:27, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I also found a violation of our copyright policy in Draft:Madhu Krishnan. Please don't add copyright material to Wikipedia. — Diannaa (talk) 20:42, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Your edit to Draft:Leon Tikly has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. Whpq (talk) 00:41, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite clear you are copying text from the source and editing to create the article. Do not do this. It just results in close paraphrasing which still isn't acceptable. Write it from scratch in your own words. Do not copy text from the source. -- Whpq (talk) 00:43, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou. I will take this advice on board and start again. Forgive me, I am learning! 81.102.217.27 (talk) 07:24, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
