Asbury Park thanks

Thanks for making all of the changes to reflect the change in the form of government by Asbury Park, New Jersey from the 1923 Municipal Manager Law to a Faulkner Act (Council-Manager) form, reflecting all of the changes through the relevant articles. Reports should start flowing in over the next few days on swearing in ceremonies and reorganization meeting results where legislatures select their own leadership. Philly roads = Unreliable source?

FA map

I see that you got File:USRD FA map.png updated, and I'd like to say, "good job". If you're up to it, Scott5114 also updated File:MISH FA map.png as necessary, and if you'll look, you'd note that US 45, US 141, US 31 and I-69 are all missing from it. LA maps

My apologies for making a cut and paste error that accidentally removed the maps for LA 12 and LA 19, two pages I just worked on, but it seems we both reinstated the code at the same time. Thanks for doing the maps and KML's for the Louisiana highways. I've been away for awhile, and it's nice to see that so many have been created. They look great! updated logo

Hi and thanks for creating the vector form for the Rutgers athletic logo. Per a discussion at the Wikimedia Commons Illustration Workshop I've updated the logo slightly to increase the line weight and adjust the color. Use of succession box

Your recent edit, removed the succession box from the article for Sea Bright, New Jersey, with an edit summary noting that a "succession box not appropriate for depicting a north/south relation". The succession box has been used widely elsewhere for the same purpose, for example at Delran Township, New Jersey. I think that the information is appropriate and should remain in the article. Are there any other methods that you see as appropriate here to provide this information or would you oppose reinserting the succession box? Alansohn (talk) 02:42, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

The use of "preceded"/"succeeded" for something directional is subjective to people. It's obvious for actual successions/predecessors (i.e. Richard Codey preceded Jon Corzine and Chris Christie succeeded him) but some people might think that Sandy Hook might precede Sea Bright due to its virtue of being north of it while others might think it should succeed it since one might read things starting from the south and work north. If there was a way to hard code a direction into the succession box like this:
North
Highlands 		Beaches of New Jersey South
Monmouth Beach

Ohio state route mileages

Hi, I belatedly noticed this edit of yours at Ohio State Route 126 a couple years back. It looks like you replaced all the route mileages with "true log mileages" (STLOG) from ODOT's DESTAPE files. I disagree that STLOG should be used in Ohio junction tables, because ODOT and county highway departments use a system identical to California postmiles instead of true log mileages for most purposes (except on Interstates). For example, Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway's concurrency with U.S. Route 27 starts at mile marker 7.0, not 19.92 as the STLOG column in the DESTAPE would indicate. (In most ODOT materials, the mileages would be denoted e.g. "HAM-SR 126-7.0", using a three-letter abbreviation for the county.) So for all non-Interstate Ohio junction tables, the mileages should reset at every county line. (See California State Route 1 for an example of how California junction tables handle the reset.) I'm pointing this out a couple years late because it looks like you're still active in editing Ohio state route articles. @Rschen7754: The true log mileages are published in the DESTAPE files, but they're really obscure and not posted or used anywhere outside ODOT headquarters. Is there a reason not to use the system that's signposted? If disambiguation is necessary, the three-letter abbreviations are standardized across the state. – Minh Nguyễn 💬 00:03, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Not sure I completely follow what you're asking. Are you saying that the RJL should be converted to use county mileages only? It's more helpful to list the total mileage from one terminus rather than calculating out the maximum mileposts from each county preceding it (if if there's a multiple entry to the county, good night noyise). I don't like the way we list California's postmile system here as I think it should be from a set point too rather than the discontinuous numbers with the occasional R too, but now I'm off topic. Since the DESTAPE logs have the STLOG published (who cares if they're obscure?), it can be used. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 00:53, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I'm saying that RJLs for non-Interstates in Ohio should use county-based mileages, and ideally only those mileages. (Only Interstates have a dual system that starts from the beginning of the route. That system exists because Interstates need exit numbers. I'm not suggesting any change there.)

It matters that the true log mileages are incredibly obscure: it means they aren't nearly notable enough for inclusion here, whereas the posted mileages definitely are. When a reader sees these numbers under an "mi" column, the implication is that the junction can be found at a distance measured by the usual means – which, in Ohio, starts at the county line. For example, news reports about accidents frequently refer to (county-based) mileposts but never to true log mileages. [2] As it happens, Ohio State Route 126 does reenter Hamilton County, and the posted mileage picks up where the last Hamilton County segment left off.

The DESTAPE files themselves make clear that the county-based mileages are the primary reference point: they are in the first column, while the true log mileages are the penultimate column. The last column is longitude and latitude: if I added coordinates for each of these junctions, I'm pretty sure USRD editors would line up to strip them out, no matter that they're more helpful in some ways (easier to plot on a map). I agree that it may be useful to know the total length of a route, but that information is already provided in the infobox and hopefully somewhere in the prose.

Interstate 49 in Louisiana: image

The Image on Interstate 49 in Louisiana shows the route (in red) of the opened section of the highway. Is there a way to add the section (possibly in blue) of the future I-49 from Lafayette to New Orleans? Otr500 (talk) 17:57, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

The issue with adding the future route is that I can't find any sources showing the final routing of the Interstate. Obviously, most of it will follow what's now US 90 and the issue I will raise won't be noticeable on a large-scale map but there will have to be some realignments to go around the surface highway portions through towns. I'd rather wait until there's at least a final map showing where the Interstate will be heading both along the southern portion and the Shreveport area, draw it in a KML file, and use that to add to the map. I hope you understand. Note to my talk page stalkers, if you wish to tackle this addition and use my map as a base, I shall raise no objections (I can't anyway since permission to modify is already granted in the GFDL anyway :) ). —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 18:37, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
I completely understand as it would be a little hard. The route is actually already approved. There were alternate routes through Lafayette but the US 90 corridor won out. There are alternate routes (page 3, exhibit 1-1) from I-310 to the terminus but some of that is already solved with at grade interstate highway like Bus. 90, from Garden road in Marrero to the Crescent City Connection, and from LA-88 to I-310. A map will be nice when the interstate is completed but the Lafayette section could be "many years" from now. Thank you, Otr500 (talk) 00:06, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
