Barr memo
If you CTRL-F "Barr memo" in Mueller Report, you'll be able to see I found quite a lot of content on it, first after the letter, second after the press conference, and third after the report's release. None of the references are before the letter was released. starship.paint ~ KO 09:22, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi
Can I ask why you have warned me about edit warring but not the other editor? I haven’t made three reverts, whilst they have, yet I get the warning and they don’t. Can you explain this please? ElsevierAnatomy (talk) 05:06, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- ElsevierAnatomy, because you've removed the text three times and they've reinserted it twice. Once more and you've violated WP:3RR. Stop edit warring. – Muboshgu (talk) 05:07, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
Look more closely and you will see that I made an edit, they reverted my edit, so I removed the small section to prevent the text being misleading, which wasn’t then reverted twice more. I’d still class that as 3 reverts by the other user. The user is knowingly framing a quote to mislead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElsevierAnatomy (talk • contribs) 05:11, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- ElsevierAnatomy, you put something in, then took the whole thing out, and again, and again. That's an edit war. When you edit war, as you have, you're in the wrong, period. Stop now. Establish WP:CONSENSUS. – Muboshgu (talk) 05:15, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
For an administrator, you are awfully rude. I am trying to make the point that the other user has also done a similar thing, so I would like them to be made aware too. I was trying to sit on the side of caution by removing possibly untrue content so that it could be removed instead of leaving it there. I meant no harm, but the other editor won’t come to a compromise. I apologise for any harm caused and it wasn’t my intention to edit war. I am pretty new here so I’m still trying to learn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElsevierAnatomy (talk • contribs) 05:18, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- ElsevierAnatomy, I think they know, as they've been around long enough that they should. Consensus takes time. I see some convo on the user's talk page but nothing on the article's talk page. Start a discussion there, where the community can see it. – Muboshgu (talk) 05:26, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
Well when I have looked on the talk page of the page in question, the issue has been raised before, and the issue raised is the issue I raised- supporting my viewpoint that context needs to be added to the main page. I would argue that at least two others agree with me on the talk page of the main article and the only person to disagree is the other editor (the one I am in disagreement with). I asked for a compromise, and I said that there doesn’t need to be any information removed, just added information to add context, as more information is always better than removing information (in my opinion). The other editor was completely against this idea and told me that they would add a footnote instead. A footnote is inappropriate and is not read by everyone. The statement left on its own is misleading and at least 2 other editors have raised this issue. I would argue that the community realises this issue, so I would say that I have support from the talk page already. What else do I need? How do I cite the talk page as support and stop the revert of my edits? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElsevierAnatomy (talk • contribs) 05:31, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

WikiCup 2019 May newsletter
The second round of the 2019 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to scored 32 points to advance into round 3. Our top four scorers in round 2 all scored over 400 points and were:
- Cas Liber (1210), our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three DYKs. He also made good use of the bonus points available, more than doubling his score by choosing appropriate articles to work on.
- Kosack (750), last year's runner up, with an FA, a GA, two FLs, and five DYKs.
- Adam Cuerden (480), a WikiCup veteran, with 16 featured pictures, mostly restorations.
- Zwerg Nase (461), a seasoned competitor, with a FA, a GA and an ITN item.
Other notable performances were put in by Barkeep49 with six GAs, Ceranthor, Lee Vilenski, and Canada Hky, each with seven GARs, and MPJ-DK with a seven item GT.
So far contestants have achieved nine featured articles between them and a splendid 80 good articles. Commendably, 227 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2019 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. The judges are pleased with the thorough GARs that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. ArbCom 2019 special circular
Administrators must secure their accounts
The Arbitration Committee may require a new RfA if your account is compromised.
|
This message was sent to all administrators following a recent motion. Thank you for your attention. For the Arbitration Committee, Cameron11598 02:44, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – May 2019
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).
- A request for comment concluded that creating pages in the portal namespace should be restricted to autoconfirmed users.
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions
; administrators found failing to have adequately done sowill not be resysopped automatically
. All current administrators have been notified of this change. - Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.
- In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases,
- A request for comment is currently open to amend the community sanctions procedure to exclude non XfD or CSD deletions.
- A proposal to remove pre-2009 indefinite IP blocks is currently open for discussion.

Some are just watchers, some hunt for glory neglecting right or wrong and the others who really work get crucified either physically or verbally.

Naples United FC
I see you deleted Naples United FC citing G4. This would mean the page could never be created again as it was already deleted before, even tho it passes all the notability rules. Almost all the other teams in the league they play in have their own page, so why cant they? I'm not happy with your decision. Matthewishere0 (talk) 11:42, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- Matthewishere0, the page was not appreciably different from what had been deleted, which falls under WP:CSD#G4. You didn't present anything that would make that page different from what was deleted. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:13, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- Muboshgu (talk · contribs) The page was noticeably different from what had been deleted in 2017. I included 3 resources and I was going to add more, that was just to begin the page.
- Matthewishere0, no, it was not noticeably different, and had just been deleted for the second time a few weeks prior. If you want to see this article recreated in a way that will survive deletion, I suggest that you use WP:AFC to draft the article. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:22, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
- Muboshgu (talk · contribs) note how i said the page was NOTICEABLY DIFFERENT from 2017, not from what had been deleted a few weeks prior. And yes, there were actually differences from the last time I created it a month ago, it didn't have an infobox and references that I included the last time it was deleted.

Hi Muboshgu,
Thank you for the message regarding Gretchen Carlson wikipedia page. I have been authorized by Gretchen Carlson to make changes to her page. I have cited materials that are no accessible on the internet but have been provided to me by Gretchen and her counsel. Gretchen also wants to remove some personal information about her family that she does not feel is valid on her profile.
I am not a skilled editor on Wiki, so I apologize for my shoddy edits. But I would like to attempt to make small changes. Please let me know how best to accomplish based on what I uploaded and what was deleted. Wyntermitchell (talk) 15:59, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Wyntermitchell, hi, thanks for reaching out to me. Please see WP:COI for details on editing Wikipedia with a conflict of interest, such as you have. Ms. Carlson doesn't get to dictate what goes on her page or what comes off. We use publicly available information, and would have to examine the sources you say she and her counsel provided you with. Discussion about how to achieve edits to the page should be made on the article's talk page, Talk:Gretchen Carlson. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:46, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

WikiCup 2019 July newsletter
The third round of the 2019 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round needed to score at least 68 points, which is substantially lower than last year's 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with 500 points derived mainly from a featured article and two GAs on natural history topics
- Adam Cuerden, with 480 points, a tally built on 16 featured pictures, the result of meticulous restoration work
- SounderBruce, a finalist in the last two years, with 306 points from a variety of submissions, mostly related to sport or the State of Washington
- Usernameunique, with 305 points derived from a featured article and two GAs on archaeology and related topics
Contestants managed 4 (5) featured articles, 4 featured lists, 18 featured pictures, 29 good articles, 50 DYK entries, 9 ITN entries, and 39 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and it is imperative to claim them in the correct round; one FA claim had to be rejected because it was incorrectly submitted (claimed in Round 3 when it qualified for Round 2), so be warned! When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! MiLB Player Page
Hi Muboshgu, I saw your name on the WikiProject Baseball page, and am in need of some help with a page that was recently rejected (Draft:Adam_Klein_(baseball)). If you'd be willing to help me, please let me know. Thank you very much in advance. Take care. --WikiWriter135 (talk) 23:29, 24 July 2019 (UTC)
- @WikiWriter135: Hi. I must agree with the user who rejected the submission. There are sources in the article that verify much of what you wrote, but they do not rise to the level of significant coverage that is required by the general notability guideline. Further, there are number of stylistic problems with the article as you wrote it. I see non-neutral language, such as "Adam had a banner season". Per MOS:SURNAME, we don't call people by their first names in an article. There's also issues with punctuation. Also, in the info box, you listed an MLB organization that he did not play for at the major league level, and some independently teams. The info box is for a major league team (MLB, NPB, and KBO only) that the player has played for, and does not include major league organizations that they played in minor league baseball for. He also does not appear to be in the Athletics organization currently, so I don't know why you put him as a member of the Athletics organization in the info box. I don't believe that the draft should be published, unless you are able to find more sourcing that is specific to the subject and discusses him in significant detail. And fix those other issues. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:47, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Regarding the reported trade, I have a genuine question. You were absolutely correct in reverting my changes as I didn't correctly cite an official or reliable source. Let's say the trade is now officially announced by the Brewers or Rays, would I attach that citation directly in the edit on the wiki page itself as a reference, or would it instead go in the edit summary when publishing the changes? I haven't edited very many articles and thought I would take this opportunity to ask a question. Thank you, Legiittruth (talk) 17:56, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Legiittruth, the source needs to go into the article. You can include it in the edit summary too, but edit summaries are just for us to communicate with each other. It's most important that the source be in the article. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, the page Wikipedia:Office actions has been changed from a policy page to an information page.
- A request for comment (permalink) is in progress regarding the administrator inactivity policy.
- Editors may now use the template {{Ds/aware}} to indicate that they are aware that discretionary sanctions are in force for a topic area, so it is unnecessary to alert them.
- Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
- The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.
Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

Information icon Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to London Breed. Thank you. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:38, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
How/what sources would you prefer? Newsweek isn't a poor source, but I can use several others if you would like? Here's another news source that references court documents on it.

- Sources say she gave her brother an alibi. None say she gave a "false alibi". That's a serious BLP violation. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:50, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
Ah, so instead of stating it as a false alibi, I can say that instead it was proven to be false via court decision/her brother later admitted it was him? Would that suffice?
- Any wording on this issue could be contentious. It's important not to draw conclusions from what may have happened. I suggest testing out some language you are proposing on Talk:London Breed. – Muboshgu (talk) 21:16, 7 August 2019 (UTC)
May I quote this conversation to that so it can be shown where I'm basing the continuation from?

- I don't think I've ever seen "fake news" invoked as a reason for a delete !vote before. Maybe I just hang out in the really boring deletion debates about math and stuff. XOR'easter (talk) 23:49, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

- Wikipedia is in for a bumpy ride.... I wonder how our ramshackle system of page protections and discretionary sanctions will hold up. XOR'easter (talk) 00:01, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, and I found some primary sources that may be useful to have, once the secondary sources (WaPo, etc.) catch up. XOR'easter (talk) 00:56, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- XOR'easter, I wonder if we have any Russian trolls trying to edit here. Thanks for all of your help with the article. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:59, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- Much appreciated. The horrible irony is, I picked up Wikipedia editing as a hobby in order to give myself breaks from thinking about politics. I guess that didn't last.
- If we don't have at least a few Russian (or Iranian, etc.) trolls somewhere on this site, then they aren't trying very hard. XOR'easter (talk) 14:04, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
- I see the AfD has been closed as keep. Now, to improve the article — and quite likely, to protect it against the kind of interference it is describing.... XOR'easter (talk) 19:04, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Speaking of "Russian interference", though more at the "odd" end of the spectrum than the ominous, I had thought that Cocomelon was just another case of undisclosed paid editing, but the behavior of the Murmansk-based IP editors is, well, odd. I can't quite make sense of it and would welcome a second opinion. XOR'easter (talk) 15:39, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
- XOR'easter, not gonna lie, I had to look up Murmansk. I don't know that I'm able to provide any insight on this, but I'll take a glance at it. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi, with Players Weekend coming up again, I'm wondering how to update the page so it can accommodate each year's activities/changes to the program. Someone else has been posting annual new pages for the MLB Little League Classic, linking them in a box on the parent page. Do you think we should do the same for Players Weekend? There certainly are enough new things to say about each year's installment. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 10:24, 8 August 2019 (UTC)
- Yoninah, I don't know. The MLB Little League Classic involves a different game every year. Players Weekend is an ongoing league-wide thing, and feels more like an Old Timer's Day (in terms of how we should handle it). – Muboshgu (talk) 19:05, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, that Old Timer's Day article is a better page to copy for Players Weekend. Something like the "notable moments" section will allow us to update the players' nicknames and also the black-and-white uniform format for this year. Yoninah (talk) 20:45, 11 August 2019 (UTC)
