why are you removing the http://www.adolfhitler.ws link, it has been here before you ever found wikipedia

That's not true: the link was added on January 5, 2004, and I started editing Wikipedia on December 13, 2003.

Tell how come other sites in your link section can use adolfhitler.ws as a source yet you remove adolfhitler.ws as a source ? Was the BBC and the History channel wrong in using material from this site ?

Have you got any proof that the BBC or History Channel used the site as a source? I can't see any.

The excuses used are lame, this is the second oldest link on this article and the site contains more info on Hitler than any other site on the Internet.

Have you read Wikipedia:Reliable sources? Self-published sources can't be used on Wikipedia.

SCOPE Alliance

I believe you have removed the article on SCOPE Alliance in error. There is no copy right violation on the part of SCOPE there are several articles out there including digitalmediaasia that copied our orriginal press release and "white papers" without attributing them to us. If need be I can provide the orriginal articles and their edit history that goes back to 2005. Hi Vituperex, you can read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission to learn how the procedure works. Basically, you have to:
  1. Send an email to the webmaster (that is, yourself) asking for permission to use the text under the GFDL license.
  2. Forward both the email you sent and the answer you received to "permissions AT wikimedia DOT org"
  3. Add the {{confirmation}} template to the article's talk page. I can do this for you if needed.

I would like to commend you for your effort in recategorising 300 articles. Samuel Wantman asserts the existance of a "consensus" for his view over and over again, but it was based on a few users in just one week and it has been criticised in various places then and since. I contend that no "consensus" exists. Certainly a "consensus" for something that affects so many high profile articles, yet contradicts usual practice, needs a lot more support than Mr Wantman has found. Editing images and Language preference

Hi mushroom. thanks for the welcome. like others im kinda ignorant as to wut all i needa do after i've edited a page. i figured i'd just jump in quickly, fix only wut im 100% sure of, then leave quietly. i didnt know someone was monitoring me, which is okay. actually its a good idea, to keep track of vandals. anyhow, i know i cant upload images and do other fancy things, cuz im not a member. so i imagine i cant edit images either. i just found an error (i 99.99% sure on this one) on the image "Mali Regions.png". timbuktu's region doesnt have a "t" in its french spelling. could u let someone know about this? also, im guessing this site is based in the UK or run by brits, cuz i see a lot of british english used. wut is preferred among monitors, 1) only british english to be used, 2) only american english to be used, 3) both are okay, 4) british-related articles left in british, american-related in american, and others in whichever? (id like this to apply to both spelling and punctuation, for consistency). i dont know if i should poke my fingers into articles written in brit, cuz im used to american, or if i should just leave it alone, cuz its correct for most of the world anyhow. lemme know.--4.230.171.20 00:20, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

The entire articles are copied word for word from the respective websites, army.lk, navy.lk and airforce.lk.

I am sure it is copy ight breach, and also it is turning wikipedia into as recruitment website for the respective forces.

I do not want to delete the enitre pages as I might anger a lot of people.

Could you please deal with the issue.

Ciao MushRoom; I always enjoy of Wikipedia excellent information for a wide range of topics and matters. I want to add a nice and helpful Photo Gallery of the Jorge Chavez Intl Airport here in Lima-Peru (South America). I just want to be of some help for travelers planning to come and visit my dear country: I shot the digital pictures by myself and I'm going to add a video clip of the facilities very soon too! I work for the Tourist Information Office here in Lima and my only aim is to be of some help: Many of the travelers F.A.Q. are if the waiting area for international arrivals is safe or where could they find their tour conductor or chauffer, if the ATM's are safely located. They also need to know where the "Check In" counters are or how safe it's to exchange money!

            

Most of the international flights arrive late midnight and the Photo Gallery I designed and prepared with much dedication and caring portrays how the Jorge Chavez Intl Airport actually looks! I'm aware you removed my link because you think it's a commercial site or a spam.....however the different airline sites listed in the same page are actually big bussiness websites selling flight tickets! I also find the same kind of bussiness external links when I'm looking for some information about my favorite *anime* (Japanese animation) and I'm redirect to a publishing company selling DVDs and comics of the title I was interested! I do not sell anything: Just provide travel information about Peru and these pictures and information are going to be greatly appreciated by Wikipedia users planning to come and visit South America! What I wanted to know was, well I noticed you marked the Sri Lankan Army, Navy and Air Force pages as copyright violations. I've really got no clue how copyright laws apply to articles on Wikipedia, but I was under the impression that official publications of governments were not subject to copyright protection. So since those pages were from the official government websites and it was explicitly stated on top of each article that the only source of the article was the official website, were they still in violation of copyright laws? I don't think that license is compatible with Wikipedia. As you can see at Wikipedia:Copyrights, all text on Wikipedia is released under the GFDL license. This license specifically allows copy, redistribution, modification and commercial use, while the Army's license doesn't seem to allow modification and it's unclear about commercial use. Regarding the Navy and Air Force, their sites' terms say "all rights reserved" and nothing else, so their text can't be copied without permission. The easiest way to know if they would allow the text to be used on Wikipedia is to contact them and request permission. Mushroom (Talk) 15:29, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, you're wrong: material of foreign governments is subject to copyright protection in the United States, just like anything else that is not public domain. Maybe that text could be used if it was released to the public domain by the Sri Lankan government itself, but even in this case it would not necessarily be PD in the U.S., because they have not adopted the rule of the shorter term of the Berne convention. As you can see at Wikipedia:Copyrights, on Wikipedia you can use only text that has been explicitly released to the public domain, or under the GFDL license, or under another compatible free license (except for short quotes, useable under fair use). Redirection Question

Hi there Mushroom, many thanks for welcoming me! Wondered if I may ask a quick noobie question please?

I've just created a stub on Neo & Farina. My question is about search terms. If someone searches for "Neo & Farina", the article comes up... great. However if they search for "Neo and Farina", as I'm sure most would do, the article isn't listed due to the discrepancy between "and" and "&".

I couldn't find anything on Wiki policy about the uses of "and" and "&" and how to get around the problem. Is there any way I can set up a redirect page for the "and" version? Many thanks in advance!! DavidLaurenson 14:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Uncertainty About an Article's Viability for AfD Nomination

I know Wikipedia has a policy of having users be bold when updating pages, however I am not quite sure if that translates over to AfD nominations. The reason I am asking is because this article appears to be about one topic (Heroes and Comics, a website) and then it suddenly shifts into describing 'Renaud Bédard', who according to the article, created said site.

Now, I am pretty sure that the two should have their own pages, assuming that the two items meet the notability requirements (not quite sure how to determine if they are, although to me, it does not seem to be notable), rather than sharing one main namespace article.

Any assistance in determining the status of the article (IE, if it could be AfD'able) would be appreciated. Kyra 08:53, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Any article can be AfDed, if you think it should be deleted. After the nomination, the editors will discuss and vote, and five days will pass before the deletion. Regarding this particular article, the website doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability requirements for websites (WP:WEB) and Renaud doesn't meet those for people (WP:BIO). Furthermore, the article seems to have been created by Renaud himself (User:RenaudMan), and this is a violation of WP:AUTO. Duisburg Dude a sockpuppet of multiple hardbanned user Ted Wilkes?

There is something going on that looks very suspicious to me. A new user named Duisburg Dude has now appeared on the scene and most of his contributions to the Elvis Presley article are mass deletions. See [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11]. It seems as if this is a user account only created to harass me. Significantly, this new user calls Elvis an American icon (see [12]) and emphasizes that Elvis's funeral was a national media event. See [13]. One of his contributions to the article is that, according to the "Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace Foundation" the photo of President Nixon meeting Elvis Presley in the Oval Office is the most requested image in the history of the U.S. Government. See [14]. All this suggests that Elvis is the personal icon of this user and that he is pushing an agenda. Significantly, most parts of the relationships section and all references to Elvis's male friendships which were well sourced have now been removed. Nonsensical fan stuff such as the section on "Elvis lives" is still in the article. What the hell is going on there? Could it be that this is another sockpuppet of multiple hardbanned User:Ted Wilkes, who is an Elvis fan and frequently harassed me in the past? This user has been blocked for one year. This would explain why he is creating new user identities. Interestingly, new user Duisburg Dude is also contributing to the Suzanne Finstad, the Elvis and Me, the Child Bride: The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley and the Priscilla Presley articles, as Ted Wilkes did before he was blocked. Just a few additional words about User:Lochdale who has also contributed under the IPs 83.71.77.27 and 63.85.72.242. To my mind, this user identity also seems to have been created in order to remove my contributions (see [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24], [25], [26], [27], [28], [29], [30], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35], [36], [37], [38], [39], [40], [41], [42], [43], [44], [45], [46] etc. etc.) or to attack and debase me and my edits on the Talk:Elvis Presley page (see [47], [48], [49], [50], [51], [52], [53], [54], [55], [56], [57], [58], [59], [60], [61], [62], [63], [64], [65], [66], [67], [68], [69], [70], [71], [72]). If you look at the contribution history of this user (see [73]), he is frequently "dropping in" and either involved in deleting my contributions or constantly repeating the same accusations over and over again, namely, claiming that my sources are not reliable, that my quotations are out of context, that over 2000 books on Elvis do not mention what I have written (how should he know this, as he has not yet quoted from a single book on Elvis), etc. etc., though I have cited dozens of independent books and articles, among them publications by reputable Elvis biographers and university studies, in order to support my edits. This is also very similar to the strategies my old opponent, multiple hardbanned User:Ted Wilkes used in the past. It should be noted that some months ago User:Ted Wilkes created different sockpuppets in order to push his agenda and to delete my contributions (see [74] and [75])? It should further be noted that another alias of Ted Wilkes, user DW, created many more sockpuppets in the past, reappearing time and again after being blocked (see [76]). Interestingly, one of these sockpuppets was Nightcrawler, a name borrowed from an obscure Marvel comic book superhero (see [77]). Significantly, user Lochdale is also interested in the same comics, as, apart from deleting material from the Elvis Presley article, he also contributing to Thor (Marvel Comics) (and Talk:Thor (Marvel Comics)) which deals with another fictional superhero published by Marvel Comics. What a coincidence! I recommend that some administrators should keep a watchful eye on the activities of these two users. Onefortyone 02:48, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Mushroom please restore SCOPE Alliance article since I met all the requirements (posted on the SCOPE Alliance "this pages talk page") including permission from the Board of Directors and evidence (http://www.scope-alliance.org/pr20060118.html) that the material in the other publication (digitalmediaasia) is a derivative of the SCOPE alliance press release.
