Blue Banner and copyright

As you stated it, no. As you meant it, maybe. I don't think copyright applies here, but some other form of Intellectual Monopoly might.

Hopefully we can both agree that neither patents nor trade secrets are relevant
I would argue that copyright is not relevant, as I drew the design myself based on a book printed in 18-something (before 1923 anyway)
Trademarks/trade dress: This may be relevant. I'd argue, though, that as it's not being used exclusively by the RPCNA (or the RPC denominational group), but by the Steelites as well, that this doesn't apply either. In fact, the one the Steelites use as the blue background on http://www.covenanter.org/ was produced by me for (an older version of) the RPCA website using an outline that is probably identical to the one in the RPCNA banner that appears here on Wikipedia. You'll notice that that outline (and all the ones the RPC tends to use) have 3 spikes at the bottom, whereas the one I drew from the old book has a fringe at the bottom. Therefore the RPCNA one is more similar to the Steelite one than the one that I drew. I'm still unsure where this leaves us legally, but my guess is that we're alright. But assuming we're not, I could probably replace it with one scanned directly from the old book, which should almost certainly be alright.

Actually, as the RPCNA banner is pretty much identical to the one used on the Witness (both RPCNA and RPCI), it might be possible to argue copyright on that particular depiction of the blue banner. Or you might be able to call it a trademark in a similar fashion (in spite of its long history). However, if either of those are true, they should be battling the Steelites in order to retain control, otherwise it will become "generic" (or something -- I forget the proper term), and they'll lose the rights -- in other words, fight the little battles, and when the big one comes, it will be little too, because you'll have precedent.

OTOH, the Steelites could try to get it from us as per the Ferguson Bequest case :).

Basically, what I'm arguing is that the RPCNA banner is a much more borderline case than my picture :). And now I've argued both sides :).

It's not that whites can't have afros, Nyttend, it's that the photos typically illustrate the article. The IP above is absolutely obsessed with me, so they aren't giving particularly good advice to you (every time they log on they do things that relate only to me...it's kind of flattering. But they also use the IP 71.112.7.212 with a lengthy history of contentiousness and being blocked - best to ignore them). Regardless, if you want to write a section about white afros, then try it out and maybe then the photo will work. But right now the article mainly relates to afros as a black hairstyle and Jewfro as it relates to Jews. CSS and HTML markup

Well, they're only really essential if you create websites for a living! But they can be useful when using Wikipedia, particularly when styling tables and infoboxes, for example. I've got a few minutes to see if I can get your user page sorted out, so I'll have go now. That's easier than explaining CSS and HTML markup. Largest city question

Hi Nyttend, I went through and updated all the Ohio county infoboxes recently (added dates, etc. and two sources). In the process I only filled in the largest city field if it was a city other than the county seat. For Greene County I listed Kettering, even though it is in both Montgomery and Greene Counties, as it had the largest population, even though it is mostly in Montgomery Co. (Beavercreek is the biggest city entirely in Greene Co.). An anon editor recently changed the Greene Co. infobox (note the charming edit summary) [1]. Anyway, my question to you is what do you think should be done about largest city? In most cases it is the county seat, so it seems redundant to me to list that twice. At this point I want it to be consistent for all 88 counties, but otherwise don't care too much. Since you seem to be one of the only other people systmatically working on Ohio counties, I wanted your opinion. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 14:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I fixed Greene County - the anon took out the equal sign so largest city was not showing up (though Beavercreek was listed in the code). I can see one of two plans: 1) We can ask User:Timneu22 who has been working on the county infoboxes about a "county seat and largest city" line to the template. 2) It might be easier if I just made another pass through and added largest city (already checked them all the last pass). I don't recall too many other counties where the largest city was in multiple counties.
Sorry about Hermitage Township - you can ask an admin to undelete it and paste the info in your talk page or sandbox to recreate the article. I think there is also an undelete appeal process, but forget what it is called. There are a few paper township articles in Pennsylvania (see Augusta Township in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania for one I recall), so it seems notable and should be (re)created. - Carroll County, Ohio has part of Minerva, which has more total population than the seat (Carrollton). I looked at the census website but could not find pop by county, so I left a footnote in the infobox. What do you think? Ruhrfisch 03:19, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
  - Clermont County, Ohio is even more complicated - two largest cities are split between two or three counties. I listed Amelia as largest, with a note about Loveland and Milford. Largest village

Agreed. I tried it ("Largest village" in the template instead of "Largest city") for Vinton County (diff [2]) and it didn't work. I will ask User:Timneu22 to add the parameter. Largest borough would be useful for Pennsylvania. I might also tell him about not double linking the largest city of it is the same as the seat. I finished my pass through all 88 Ohio counties. County templates (AZ)

Hello, I saw the question you posted up on the Arizona wikiproject regarding county navigational templates in Arizona. I took a look at the ones you made for Yuma and Santa Cruz counties, and I believe they look pretty good. I should point out though that the distinction between a city and a town is fairly marginal and largely historical. The governmental structure of a city is generally more complex than that of a town, but in terms of powers and responsibilities they are functionally identical. Additionally the idea that cities are larger than towns is also largely historical. For example, El Mirage is a city at 22,121 population whereas Gilbert is a town with 173,989 residents. Since the differences between city and town are negligible and largely of historic value only here in Arizona, I'd suggest putting them together (cities/towns) in your templates rather than splitting them up.

You might also want to take in to consideration that there exists some precedent for grouping by population size as well. See, for example, Template:Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Personally I don't like this format - city populations, particularly here in Arizona, tend to grow rapidly and are not good for groupings. I prefer the grouping by city/town or CDP, as you have done, but just figured you might want to take that under consideration. Arkyan  ^(talk) 18:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The Phoenix template I provided is somewhat ambiguous in terms of what it includes. It seems to include all of the municipalities in Maricopa and Pinal counties, as well as some (but not all) of the CDP's. There is some contention as to how to define the Phoenix Metro Area - whether it is a firm definition from the Census bureau, or based on a more intuitive "what locals consider to be the metro area". Personally I favor using the Census bureau's definition if only for the sake of attribution, butI have yielded to the consensus on this issue :) Anyway hope i've answered your questions. Excellent job with the county templates. Good work! I wonder if it's possible (and if this is too much work then don't worry about it) to give the templates a hide/show feature? I know it's an extreme example but Apache Junction, Arizona has a listing in 3 distinct templates and having so many clustered up at the bottom seems to clutter the page some, and the ability to hide the templates might help cure that. Bellefontaine's GAC

Hey there. I thought I should tip you off on why I nominated Bellefontaine, Ohio for Good Article status. User:Epbr123 assessed the article as "start class", which is the lowest possible assessment for an article that's not a stub. This editor also did so without leaving any comments, which essentially degrades the article-- how can we improve it if we don't know what to improve? I don't like assessments anyway, but assessments without comments just leave a black mark on the article and devalue the contributions of tireless editors.

So I tried removing the quality part of the assessment for now. He/she reverted my edits twice. Finally, I nominated the article for GA status in the hopes of bringing the quality scale up. It was a desperation move, as I could think of no other way to keep the article from forever being a start class article. This SAME editor failed the GAC, mere minutes after I nominated it. So now not only does the article have an ugly "start class" rating, it has an even uglier failed GA status on it. I'm fed up. I feel as though the article was vandalized by a drive-by editor, and I don't feel that I have any recourses to correct it. -- SwissCelt 13:10, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Not much of an idea. I usually don't do anything with this kind of ratings (too subjective for me), and my input was just a guess. I suppose the intro could be expanded, and the geography and economy as well. Do you get the Examiner's online edition? There's not that much of economy notes in the Examiner generally. One thing that could help the geography section is a picture and account of Campbell Hill (regardless of whether it comes with an ", Ohio" :-). I hope to go to get a picture sometime this summer.

At any rate, look at other cities. Articles as significant as Carson City, Nevada and Biloxi, Mississippi are rated start-class. Perhaps the cities Wikiproject is just really stringent. Nyttend 13:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I've been meaning to take some pictures of Scioto County recently. But have never got the time to do it. Hopefully I can do it this summer before going off to Ohio State in the fall. Kansas images

As to the ... tons of places with no pictures ...

I live on the Kansas side of KC, the east side of the state ... west side of the city. The origins of humanity is just a history topic to me.

Marysville, Kansas and Black Squirrels

On your edit for Marysville, Kansas I do believe that you are right to move the History section, but I question why the section on "black squirrels" was removed. Other cities and towns in Wikipedia have "town nicknames" listed if there is one, and I don't see why Marysville would be the exception to that.

Geauga County

I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you reorganizing the town articles in that way. Many of the sections that you are shortening have incorrect grammar, and if you look at other town articles, you will see that the demographic sections are supposed to be there and in that form. Also, some of your information is incorrect, such as the fact that Bainbridge, Ohio is located inside of Bainbridge Township. No, that's what I was suggesting; sorry if I was unclear. I was just listing the by-county numbers for (relative) ease of reference in checking the regions would be viable (i.e., all over 60 articles). However, I would suggest by-county templates, since experience tells us that there's no end to how much this stuff will grow, and because the regions are somewhat vague and mutable, while the counties are much less so. It's a good general principle that admittedly does start to seem a little silly in its application in the extreme case, if say Morgan County really only does have one school stub, but for the sake of symmetry it's probably best to create them all on the same pattern, with template scopes corresponding to the permcats. The treatment of Cstanfie and the Jay S. Thomas article is panning out to be the most niggardly display of wiki editorial abuse and harassment that I have ever witnessed. Regardless of the issues of religious and racial discrimination, this is turning into a calculated and craven effort to stifle individuals, not simply what you consider to be arbitrarily lacking. Re:Creation of Illinois township articles

Well, this was a project that I started earlier this year (see the list here Wikipedia:WikiProject Illinois/Townships). I got away from it to do some other things, cleaning up and whatnot. I simply need to finish off these 27 county townships, and well almost all the precincts. Naw, I will just keep plugging away here. With the geobox, it isn't that bad to do, just gets boring after awhile. But I figure, once I get it done, it will be done. One thing I noticed when I did take a quick glance at a few of your townships is that you don't have the Ohio wiki project on the talk page. You may want to add that in your articles, but that is up to your project. Luckily, I have my template I use for each county copied on word, then I just copy and paste, and change out the few things that need changing, ie founding date, coords, pop, etc. Thanks for the comments though, I do appreciate it.--Kranar drogin 13:10, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

My reasoning was that, knowing nothing beforehand about the subject, the article gave me no information. I did not know what it was talking about, and, quite frankly, the title Wulfrida seemed questionable.
