Re:Link to Mound builder (people) or Native American earthwork

In those links you changed that I had inserted, you stated in summaries that a link to mound was more helpful, but your link doesn't go to mound or to Native Americans but to Mound builder (people), a page that deals more with past misconceptions, debunked racist and religious myths, and misconceptions about many unrelated cultures than about Native Americans or mounds themselves. Why isn't Native American earthwork, which links to Native Americans and an archaeological definition for the structures, better? The actual cultures that built the mounds are linked a sentence or 2 later in the text of those articles, the Mound builder (people) article is at best a pointer to those subjects, so it really isn't needed. Hi - you changed a category recently in Little Thetford flesh-hook from Bronze age Europe to Bronze age Britain. Can we discuss please? My reason for choosing Bronze age Europe was due the two references (9) Bowman and (10) Needham and Bowman referring to Atlantic Zone Bronze age. converting DAB to article

I had a mental note to check the DAB page on flesh hook as it had info not appropriate for a DAB. I see you converted it to a stub. What is the mechanism? Did you simply remove the category? Superior, Nebraska church

Got to Nuckolls County, Nebraska not too long ago; and per your request, sought out and photographed the church at 423 E. 5th St. in Superior. There was no address on the building or the mailbox; but it was the only building on the odd side in that block, so I assume it's the right one. The pictures are at Commons:Category:Grace Community Evangelical Free Church (Superior, Nebraska).

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you add some categories? I've looked in vain for a good subcategory of Commons:Category:Protestant churches in the United States in which to put it. Thanks—

Glad the picture's of the right church. I thought it would be, since the building clearly wasn't of very recent construction, and I checked rather carefully to make sure I wasn't being led astray by the distinction between streets and avenues or the like.

Surprised that there's not better categorization of churches by denomination. I'd have thought that there were enough various churches on the NRHP to lead to the development of a good category structure by people in that group, if nothing else.

Thanks. Your point about NRHP churches tending to belong to older and more well-defined denominations is a good one, although I'm sure that some of them have been transferred to newer and fuzzier denominations, just as some have become private homes or senior centers or artists' collectives.

Incidentally, are the pictures adequate for your purposes? Ideally, I'd have got some pictures with the light in the east, but was in Superior at the wrong time of day for that. I'll need to go back there in the morning at some point, since I need to shoot the west sides of the streets in Superior Downtown HD; and if you like, I can try to get some morning shots of the church.

New census designated places for 2010 Census

I stumbled on this earlier today when browsing through the GNIS database to expand county templates. It appears that several unincorporated communities were recently redesignated as census-designated places in several states for the 2010 Census, which will increase the number of named places with official Census data. Go to the GNIS page and search for Feature Class, Census. Most were designated in March 2010, but I've found some designated as recently as June. A few examples.

Nash, North Dakota [3]
Cass County, North Dakota previously had two CDPs (Erie and Wheatland), now it has 2 more.Brooktree Park and Embden
Agency Village, South Dakota [4]

There does not seem to be an official U.S. Census Bureau list of them. However, in 2008 the Census Bureau did announce changes to its policies on identifying what qualifies as a designated place for 2010 and beyond. The policy was to allowing for states to identify more areas as CDPs, subject to Census approval. Basically, any single closely settled named population center qualifies, as long as it does not have zero population or zero housing units and is composed of a contiguous area of census blocks.

I plan on adding new CDPs to the county templates and updating current articles for unicorporated places that have become CDPs as appropriate. For now, I'm going to just make a note of the addition in GNIS as the source, but may also include the following, if you think it works. In 2008, the U.S. Census Bureau updated the criteria for its Participant Statistical Areas Program to allow for additional CDPs to be included in 2010 Census (insert reference to Federal Register notice). I was able to look at a couple of the photos. We're out of town for the baptism of our new goddaughter this weekend and wifi at the hotel is spotty. That along with other visiting, I haven't had much time. From what I've seen so far, they turned out great just what we were looking for thanks. I'll take a closer look when I get home tomorrow. As an added bonus, though, the baptism was at a church on the NRHP in Renner, South Dakota. Took several photos, along with some of the Renner Ball Park, also on the register. Five Corners, Wisconsin/Andriy Horak

My apologies for any confusion about the Outagamie County template. In looking through my Wisconsin DeLorme atlas-I found out there were another 3 Five Corners, Wisconsin in the state of Wisconsin so I have to make the change to prevent any confusion. Also I started an article about Andriy Horak. He was an Ukrainian Orthodox bishop and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is going through some schism. I would had done a more complete article but his obituary on his church's website is in Ukrainian. I do not know if the other foreign language Wikipedias have done an article about about him. I think wiki needs some type of embedded or hidden link to appropriate style guides for each wiki page

Even though Wikipedia is incredible for non-editors, it has been a major pain for me to find the right style guides. The high-level wiki editor help has monumental amounts of information, which is great, but when it comes down to knowning what to include or not-include on a wiki page, it is almost impossible to find help or styles guides because you don't know the magic words that will hit and give you the right one you need.

About the only way I get style guides or rule guides is when other editors slam me for not meeting something I didn't know about. Even though I have been editing city wiki pages for about a month, I didn't even know about the WP:USCITY.

I kind of wish that each wiki page had a special-link to the recommended style guide for that type of page, for example each city wiki page would have some type of link to WP:USCITY. What would really be useful is that when you click the EDIT button, the edit page would have a link to it. Maybe a big wish for a wiki newbie.

Thanks for the response. No you weren't too hard on me. Yes, my edits didn't match the guidelines, so I was wrong. My statement above is a little terse likely because I've been spending a lot of time editing pages and snapped back harser than I should have. Thanks for the help!!!

I know that I need to refine the wiki text that I add to the city wiki's, and I'll work harder to format them more like the style guide. The wiki's for all the tiny towns in the area are so sparse that it's easy for me to get out of control adding new info since I finally got into the zone of how to edit wiki pages. I'm trying to get more people involved in Marion County city wiki's, especially history guru's, but I'm not going to hold my breath :-)

Is it ok to add empty sections and include the Expand-section?

I noticed that Las_Cruces, New Mexico was using the Expand-section to get people to help fill in some sections. I'm not going to add all every section, like big cities, but I thought 2 or 3 might be a good idea. For the smallest incorporated towns, I wanted to add the Expand-section to the History section to get more people involved. Monitor roof

I seem to have hit a wall on sourcing for the term. I talked to people at my office, and everybody agrees on appropriate use the term: a raised, windowed or louvered portion of roof straddling a ridge or hip. 8 states (with pix) trip

Just back and worn out - I'd forgotten how much work it is to upload and properly place pix. Pix in Illinois (Champaign-Urbana, and Quincy), MO, KS, CO, NE, IA, KY (1?), TN. I may have finished off Denver (the whole thing), but 2 pix are a bit iffy, e.g. a pix of a gate that says "Touch this gate at your own risk." The last 2 are misleading. 1 is just the top of a tower through the trees, and the castle as a whole doesn't look like that. Gatehouse is just a separated off property that doesn't reflect the whole. Lincoln Center, Kansas should be moved or renamed to Lincoln, Kansas

It looks like someone expanded out the OLD city name from the 1800's, instead of using the common name of Lincoln. I know that Marion, Kansas use to be called Marion Center or Centre back in the 1800's, but no one uses that name either. Pittsburgh Landmarks

Hi Nyttend, since you have contributed quite a few images of historic buildings in the Pittsburgh area, I though you'd like to know that 1) the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation table of Historic Landmarks now has all 538 plaque recipients entered and 2) there is a discussion about whether the City designated landmarks (99 of them including districts) and the PHLF landmarks should be split into two separate list articles. Sock puppet advice

Not sure the appropriate venue, but there's a blocked editor using sock IPs to circumvent his block The problem is the edits are updating historical cenus populations, primarily for North Dakota communities, and while edit summaries are lacking, the contributions are valuable. You can see his most recent comment on my talk page. I came across his edits where he was counting township population as a city population, so I reverted. But most are accurate when I compare the original US census data. His most recent string his here and the previous here. Both IPs are one's he acknowledges using on his talk page.

It appears the editor was indefinitely blocked a long time ago, and won't or can't use the proper unblock procedures. I sent him a friendly warning today that he should avoid using IPs to get around his block. Since his talk page mentions you, I thought I'd inquire. I don't intend to revert any of his valid edits, but also don't want to condone an editor blatantly violating policy.DCmacnut <> 02:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

The blocked user is someone else entirely unrelated to the Iowa thing. User:Rossdegenstein. Apparently he's been blocked for several reasons, including treating Wikipedia has his personal web page. He's been circumventing the block by editing from a variety of IP addresses. I was just curious. His edits to population data are by and large accurate and good additions. But since he was circumventing a block, my concern was that he would continue to tick off other editors which could lead to some problems. He doesn't seem to be entirely up on proper citations and edit summaries, but when it comes to the historical populations I don't think any of us are good about providing sources for each decennial census.DCmacnut <> 16:00, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

NRHP talk pages

Hey Nyttend, I've noticed you create NRHP articles alot (see User:AlexNewArtBot/NRHPSearchResult) but you rarely if ever create the associated talk page. It is generally common practice to add any NRHP article to relevant wikiprojects, as explained here. Adding these templates to the talk page allows for more accurate calculations of the "quality" of the project. Surprising edit

I was going to retag File:Systel Inc twin server.JPG as no permission which fastily has added but was surprised to see you removed it with this edit when clearly the uploader User:Mauliknk has provided no permission from Systel inc the copyright holder according to the source link http://systelusa.com/eirm-ipc4116.html given. Even though the source is in the description field and the source shows only the uploader's name, so obviously the "no permission" tag was correct. Actually, the nomination forms stress the sidewalks e.g., and the brass plaque is on (and refers to) the sidewalk, not the buildings. Why else do you think I took photos of a sidewalk? Still, it's an odd photo in bad light. I'll probably put it in an article on the site(s). I'm inclined to put the 2 buildings together in one article (the sidewalks are about 15 yards long total). Those are actually the categories given like "Arts, Entertainment, Recreation, Accommodation and Food Services", that is one whole category given in the Census information, so I am slightly unsure how to fix that. It isn't all capitalized on the Census information (like I had it previously), but I capitalized it all as I thought that is what you meant (and it looked better when I thought about it). Henry Roth House

Denverjeff was kind enough to point out that I got 5 North vs. the real 5 South Fox Street. I knew something was wrong with it but just couldn't figure out what. It would have been the final pix for all of Denver. And I was only a half block away! On the other hand, DJ has taken a pix ( here - see my talk page), but it looks a lot like the Richthofer Castle - all trees, no house. I guess it just wasn't meant to be - I was dragging my wife all over town taking these quickie shots, and ... DJ says that he might go back at Christmas (when the leaves are off) ... Do you have a trick-shot hidden in an old folder somewhere? Any other possibilities? I put the Speer shot into SE Denver - it is in 2 other parts of the city. Feel free to ask DJ to release the Roth pix - I think he is a bit of a perfectionist (perhaps thats why I was a bit afraid of stepping on his toes). Good to hear about your driving. Mrs S was quite understanding about the Denver - Hannibal part of the trip (with the exception of Iowa City and Keokuk), but the last 3 days were a bit much for both of us. We decided - no more joint 7+ day driving trips for at least another 5 years!

Beaver Co. PA markers

There are only two possibilities for the marker you showed me: it is either a local marker or the PHMC database is incomplete. After combing through the PHMC database, I have to say it seemed very up-to-date and complete, even listing very old missing markers.The shape and design of that marker suggests it is either not a PA state historical marker or it is a very old one. Image hoax

You deleted File:BUNT BAND.jpg as a hoax. I'm not sure how this image can be considered a hoax. Certainly, the article that included the image is likely a hoax, as it makes some very extravagant unfounded claims about the popularity of this band. I believe the band to be a group of tweens (based on the band's "official site") who are trying to bolster their own image and egos with this page. That doesn't mean they don't exist, and that the image provided is not actually the art they have used on their album. It's not clear that there was any evidence that the image constituted a hoax, even though the article clearly is. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 14:16, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Bristol, Wisconsin

On June 29, 2010, the village of Bristol, Wisconsin voted to annex the town of Bristol in Kenosha County, Wisconsin effected July 4, 2010.[8] I made the neccessary changes and the old town of Bristol article will eventually be redirected into the village article. A small section of the old town of Bristol was annexed to the village of Pleasant Praire. Question=was the Lake Shangrila CDP also annexed into the village of Bristol? According to my DeLorme Wisconsin atlas part of it may be in the town of Salem and other half in Bristol.[[9] Also the now former unincorporated communities of Pikeville, Wisconsin and Woodworth, Wisconsin that were in the old town will have to be incorporated into the article. Hartford City Historic District

Yes, I will finish the HC Courthouse Square Historic District, probably in September. I am waiting for some info from the Blackford County Historical Society and more info from the National Register of Historic Places. (Sometimes sources conflict!) I also have some vacation coming up. My possible next article is HC's courthouse -- it is also in the National Register. If you have some suggestions for the HC Historic District or my writing style in general, please let me know. You mention that you know about interwiki links involving the other Wikipedia that are in different languages. An Unkrainian Orthodox Bishop Feodosiy Petsyna died on July 23, 2010 and the German Wikipedia has a stub about him. I was wondering if this stub can be translated into English and brought over to our Wikipedia. There is a redlink at recent deaths for Feodosiy Petsyna on July 23, 2010 in our Wikipedia. There is some sort of schism involving the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church is involved. Please let me know otherwise I will try to create the stub. Sorry not to have followed up on this issue for a long time, after i promised i would draft an RFC. I've kept it in mind as one of several open editorial decision issues. Just now I opened a discussion section on the "same name same county" issue at wt:NRHP, trying to be relatively neutral, and hoping to settle the issue well enough just within wp:NRHP. Could you comment there, please? I gave as example the pair of Octagon House places in Fairfield County, CT because I have been focussing on that list-article. I think that might suffice, or perhaps you might think another pair or two would be also important to consider, that bring out different aspects of the issue. Hmm. So they both have some real creds. If one or both had been local I could have understood (I do find it amusing sometimes reading the noms from earlier years when they were usually prepared by local people with a lot more enthusiasm for what they were doing than professionalism in doing it). Then again, since they were MPSes and the actual apps don't have names, maybe they were prepared by staffers or local people, and someone had forgotten about the district in the meantime. This one for Gilfillan Farm near Pittsburgh is one of my favorites. The woman writing it was, it seems, a local realtor whose preservationist impulses cannot be faulted, but who badly needed to have it explained to her that she was writing for a government entity full of very serious people. There's an awful lot of la-de-dah stuff but I really had to search through it for the useful information.

I've always been very impressed by the people New York's OPRHP gets doing this stuff. Very professional and sometimes their insights have made it into articles and become DYK hooks (I like Neil Larson's especially). Daniel Case (talk) 05:07, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Re: My Internet connexion

No worries. Glad no one was hurt when your internet and phone got struck. I do know that Walmart has some cheap-o phones, if you just need a phone. They run about $12.00 and have caller ID available and work pretty good. We have one and it does the trick, last a couple days on a single charge (it is cordless). If it is wiring, then that is definitely the phone company. If you have Verizon for phone, expect a week or more with them, they are kinda slow. Sorting the "fully-illustrated" list

I had thought the convention in Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/full illus list was to sort first by decreasing number of listings, then chronologically. That's the way it has been, but I see you changed the chronological sorting to alphabetical. Maybe it should be redone as a table with options to sort on various columns? Good catch, I used the wrong reference (oops). But given that I had two sources, one saying Roosevelt was involved and one saying he wasn't, I've added more references. There are multiple sources saying Roosevelt made the arrangements, and a good source showing that Roosevelt commissioned 200 paintings from Sharp and confirming it was the Indian Commission, not just an individual agent, which did the building. I've provided an alternate hook using the word "arranged" rather than "supported" and making it clear that the actual work and expense was provided by the Indian Commission. Baptist convention of Indiana

Hello Nyttend,

Would you please consider reinstating the "State Convention of Baptist in Indiana"? The following link shows how each state convention is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Southern Baptists are the largest evangelical denomination in the world. As I read the standard the state conventions they seemed to qualify for notability. I have also linked the web site for each state convention on the page I created. The bulk of information mentioned on the wiki page is verified on the state convention web pages. Thanks again for your help. Please let me know how I am to proceed.

I would certainly like to try Nyttend. I am also trying to recruit help. I truly believe that understanding what the state conventions believe and how many churches are in them is helpful to wiki users. This information assist others in understanding how Southern Baptists work. In addition to size, I also mentioned entities the conventions own and operate. There is also a link to what they believe. Information was also provided on how the SBC state convention cooperate together. Please consider restoring the pages so that I can work on them further. NRHP titles

I noticed someone moved the article Ohio State Normal College At Kent to Ohio State Normal College at Kent citing "correcting name spelling and grammatical error". As far as I remember, the actual NRHP form did have the "at" capitalized (which is why the article was titled the way it was). I can't find the copy of the form I have to verify that. The question is, should we hold to the exact title from NRHP when it isn't a normal use of capitalization or should we stick with the actual title as on the forms regardless of the "norms" of capitalization? --JonRidinger (talk) 20:24, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I used to have a hard copy of the nomination form but somehow it disappeared from my collection (free to get from the National Park Service, but takes forever). I do remember "at" being capitalized because it surprised me. Stark County

Thanks for the note, Nyt. I was born in Massillon and raised in the area and visit there a couple of times a year. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I got pics of most of the sites I hadn't already photographed on previous trips. There are still a few to go, but it's getting there. Most of my photo efforts are out here in the Bay Area. I've pretty well covered San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Contra Costa and Alameda Counties at this point. Next comes the peninsula. Hi,

Can I have your views on the other state Baptist Conventions that Toverton28 has been working on, he has gone quiet over the last few days, and would like to give him time to fix them.

Hello Nyttend, i am upset you deleted the article i created for john edwards. he is the most important double bassist for free jazz/free improvisation music in the uk if not europe/world. i have listed over 50 records of his on indie free jazz labels since the 80s, the peguin jazz book listed him, and all his collaberators have their own wiki articles, and he is still considered as insignificant? does wiki only exist for popstars and celebraties? please refer to Emanem Records,everyone else who he has played with already has their articles!

Hi again, John edwards is a very low key artist, never takes any interviews. and because he is in the supporting role (but critical to have) of a double bass player in any musical ensembles, he is not featured as the main musician in tv/radio. this is why there are not much information on him online. Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. instead in the criterion for speedy deletion, it was listed that if a musician has cds under important indie labels, he will be considered significant. i am surprise you just delete regardlessly without referring to the 50 cds listed under several indie record labels, all of them are on wiki. do you do backups when you delete? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Write2yibo (talk • contribs) 22:31, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles.

Hence why I used the safest, "Princess Victor of Thurn and Taxis," as the article title. She was referred to as "Leonora" in one New York Times article, but known as "Princess Lida" in several local Pennsylvania newspapers. In most New York Times articles, she is either referred to as "Princess of Thurn and Taxis" or "Princess Victor of Thurn and Taxis." Since Leonora was used once, I decided to go with Lida, but the discovery of additional sources may call for further modifications. Thanks again for all your assistance Nyttend! I deleted as copyvio a much fuller article about him, and then decided that he was in fact notable, and made this stub as a start for a non-copyvio article. I think the sourced assertions in the stub (Professor at UC Irvine, concert performer on the ney) are enough to pass A7, and as far as full notability goes,

Missing sections of the Alabama ZIP code list

I noticed that your ZIP code completion list for Alabama has been missing a few sections since you created it. Every ZIP code from 362-365 was missing until I added them back in a while ago; I thought that was it until I noticed a large chunk of the 360s was missing today. I suspect the original article was vandalized before it was deleted, and I'm not sure if any other sections are missing. Since I'm not an admin, could you please find the pre-blanking revision of List of ZIP Codes in Alabama and put it in a subpage of my user page (User:TheCatalyst31/Alabama, let's say) so I can sort out the rest? (I got the other missing communities from an archived version of the original page, but it's not formatted and I can't practically check the whole list from there for missing parts.) Declined speedy of Skydrift Air Charter

G'day from Oz; I just want to point out that Skydrift Air Charter is not actually an airline, but the airborne equivalent of a small taxicab company. Just about any airport serving a major city in the Western world will have at least one, if not several, of this type of company based there. The refs establish nothing other than that it exists, has some aeroplanes and is licenced by the regulator to operate commercially. The bulk of the edits have been made by Users who haven't made edits to any other articles on WP, so I think it's safe to assume that they have a connection with the company. Further more I did check the compliance of the page alongside A7. Firstly I feel that [:Kieran Powell (Ventriloquist)]] is well known enough as shown by general Google results and external links. Secondly the main output of the page was to explain the creativity of [:Kieran Powell (Ventriloquist)]]. E.g. Puppets & shows. I really don't see a difference between this article and the one you cited. Normally I don't delete articles that other people haven't tagged for speedy deletion (even though I'm permitted to do it), so I'm not inclined to delete the Capital Beltway Hockey League (CBHL) article without input from someone else. My point was that the other page may well be equally worthy of deletion; I've just not done it, and (because I'm not required to delete pages) I don't want to do it under the present circumstances. Please understand, by the way, that the existence of an article on a topic doesn't necessarily mean that there should be an article on that topic; this essay is a good explanation of this point. George Wiland speedy deletion removal

I see you removed the Speedy Deletion tag for the George Wiland article, based on the possibility of the references indicating notability. I checked the references out and they were either dead or they pointed to pages that didn't say anything about Wiland. Philly NHLs

I'm trying to improve the List of National Historic Landmarks in Philadelphia, but have several questions.

I've added in all the remaining coords in DMS format and switched the others to DMS- do folks not use this format in NHLs?
Independence Hall and Gloria Dei are not on the NHL list (part of a National Historic Park or National Historic Site) but other similar "odd" sites are - what is supposed to be included in an NHL list?
Addresses in "Philadelphia" with the county as "Philadelphia" are redundant in this list. Would anybody mind if I switch the locality to regions like "Center City" or "West Philadelphia" (linking them to NRHP lists?), and then put the neighborhoods in the "County" column?
I've put the coords above the street address - this way when you sort on "locality" it sorts north to south, rather than by street number. With "Center City" or other regions in this column, it would first sort by region, then north to south.

Angola

I read this edit:

Nyttend, Louisiana State Penitentiary ("Angola, Louisiana") is not just a prison. It's also a self-contained community with residential housing (for employees), a dedicated fire department, and a post office. Angola and Mississippi State Penitentiary (Parchman, Mississippi) are two prison farms which essentially are self-contained communities. Therefore both are listed as "places" in their county/parish templates.

Also in regards to this edit, the penitentiary is a community (a self-contained one with employee housing and a dedicated fire department), and "Parchman, Mississippi" is now a redirect into the prison article. Parchman has no identity outside of the prison, and its fire station and post office are inside the prison grounds.

Hi, sorry to be getting in the way maybe. I browsed some of your recent contributions and took issue with loss of disambiguating (City, State) for a place of name format "Lastname House". Generally i think almost such places should be disambiguated, and that usually there is no wp:PRIMARYUSAGE, and i set up Legg House dab. Then in Google search looking for non-NRHP ones to add to the dab, your commons pics pop up. I hope you don't mind my having created the dab page, where you were apparently about to create an article on the Indiana one. I do think the City, State disambiguation is better in its name, but i also don't want to interfere with productive effort. If you want to assert primaryusage and move the dab to "Legg House (disambiguation)" I won't object. Good to hear from you again. Yep, it looks like I really didn't complete the West Philadelphia list - d____, gotta check everything! Give me a week or two before you post a reprimand at "Fully Illustrated Lists!" after all, it's only about 50 yards out of the district (see Jack Boucher aerial photo). Only about 111 more pix to complete Philadelphia (but who's counting?), including 1 Lightship in Camden, NJ. If you find any similar quirks or curiosities, or even just bad photos, in Philly let me know. I'd rather catch them before than after announcing a Philly fully illustrated list. Please reconsider declining this speedy

Hi, Nyttend. Thanks for your admin work with things like speedy-delete requests. I know you have to go through them quickly, of course, in order to keep up with the deluge, but I'd like to ask you to reconsider one you declined after a 3-second review, with the edit summary, "This is hardly spam." No criticism at all is intended re the three seconds; as I said, I know you have to move quickly. But if you'll look a little longer I think you'll have to conclude that it is spam, bandspam, to be specific. Further, it's a menace to Wikipedia to allow it to live, even in userspace, imo. The user has tried at least 7 times, ignoring admin warnings all the way along, to move the article into mainspace. He even created a redirect in mainspace to point to this userspace page at one point, and also created it in mainspace as the alternate spelling "Yung Jonii", presumably because his preferred spelling is salted. The article is about an 18 year old rapper with no commercial or press notice at all - the "external links" in the would-be article are all to pages the user just created himself on free music sites, a few days ago. I strongly suspect the user behind this, RuskiiSun, SunHawken, and now BlackImperial is himself "Young Jonii".

Here's some documentation to back all these claims up: Name-jumper re-creating band spam at ANI, user SunHawken's talk page, and some relevant logs: [11][12][13]. One admin offered to let him keep the article in userspace a while ago, for three months, but that was before he abused the privilege by repeatedly trying to get it into mainspace again by ignoring admin warnings and by deceptive attempts like the redirect and the rename of the article. I wasn't exagerating when I said this "article" is a menace. The user has already consumed hours and hours of other user's time on this, despite dozens of polite explanations as to "Young Jonii's" utter lack of notability. The user simply refuses to take "no" for an answer. If the thing stays around in any form, he'll just keep creating bogus external links to free music sites and using whatever other sly techniques he can think of to pump it up erroneously. The young man needs to work on his hoped-for career in the music business to gain legitimate notability, not to try and jigger the would-be article around to keep trying to fake it. This one really needs a stake through its heart, I'm afraid.

However, I see the links and explanations you provide as sufficient reason for an IAR deletion — plenty of people have agreed with you that this content is unacceptable (and now that I understand the situation better, I agree as well), so I'll take this as consensus to delete that simply was made at a place other than XFD. Thanks for the DYK nomination for Tamora, Nebraska. Your phrasing looked pretty good; certainly, as good as anything I could've come up with. Unfortunately, that problem existed in the sources as well. I suspect that there's a version of the naming story in which the founders agreed "to name it tomorrow", or something to that effect; and, in keeping with their agreement, they named it Tomorrow. However, I can't find a source that phrases it that neatly, and it would be a mortal sin to introduce a phrase of my own invention in quote-marks into the article.

Incidentally, how'd you find the article so quickly? Do you have your watchlist arranged so that new articles in "Category:Unincorporated communities in Nebraska" automatically go onto it when they're created or added to the category? Or did your watchlist show you the change in Seward County, Nebraska or the Seward County template, and you then followed the link by hand?

I appreciate the nomination, and I'll take it as a compliment, although it's not because of anything clever that I did myself...

I've been editing for not quite a year, and during that time most of my effort has been focused on photography; so I don't have any GA's or FA's; in fact, I've only got 8 A's, though I've made what I regard as major contributions to about as many more existing articles. When the winter sets in and conditions become less favorable for birding and photography, I hope to do more article-writing and -editing. I've got a couple of articles in the pipeline, but they're moving slowly—especially since the Kearney and UNK libraries are closed for the Labor Day weekend.

Speaking of articles in the pipeline, one of them deals with an NRHP site in Dawes County, Nebraska, and I'm perplexed regarding the name. The site in question is the former library at Chadron State College. In the NRIS, it's listed as "Library". In National Register of Historic Places listings in Dawes County, Nebraska, it's Library (Chadron, Nebraska); but that's not a whole lot better, since the Chadron Public Library is also on the NRHP, and may have its own article one day. I'm planning to name the article Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center, for the building's present use; but according to WP:NRHPMOS, there should be a redirect page with the official name. The problem is that if and when Chadron Public Library is written, Library (Chadron, Nebraska) should probably be a dab page pointing to both articles. Any thoughts? Advice would be welcome; I was planning to post this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places, but will use this occasion as a pretext to pester you about it first.

Thanks a million—I tried searching focus.nps for the nom form, but didn't think of looking at the college as a group. Clearly I need to learn a lot more about searching the site. I've been relying on the Nebraska State Historical Society website, which is great but which doesn't have all the nom forms uploaded yet. I e-mailed someone at NSHS who's sent me nom forms in the past, but she's out of the office until Tuesday.

I'm going to stick with the Sandoz Center name, since that's the building's present function, and since Sandoz is a major figure in Nebraska letters. For the latter reason, I'm going to make it a separate article and not incorporate it into a single article on all of the college's NRHP buildings. I'm not sure what I'll do with the official NRHP name in the lead. WP:NRHPMOS wants me to put the official name in as one of the bolded alternative names; but "The Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center, also known as Library, is a..." sounds kind of silly.

OK, time to stop procrastinating and get to work on the Sandoz Center article...

Is there any way to delete those uploaded files in a legal way? Obviously, the guy uploaded the logos (Salt&Light Radio) just to promote his self-created internet radio station. He even tagged this music file and claiming that he is the copyright owner. This one even looks like its for personal use only. A perfectly understandable deletion on your part. What happened was the User:Seraphimblade decided that the article was simply a campaign brochure and speedily deleted it. He is stubbornly refusing to restore it and submit it to AfD so that we can have an actual discussion and I've posted 4 independent sources all of which discuss the Clements campaign. He has in turn called them simply local sources or partisan (Common Dreams NewsCenter) and refuses to restore the article.--TM 22:49, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Greetings I am rather disappointed to see the article on Lump Ball has been deleted without any request for comment from myself! The article is NOT a hoax as you seem to have presumed. For your information this game has been developed based on information from the training schedule for delegates who are studying the IMPACT (International Mobilisation and Preparation for ACTion) course for the Red Cross and the content is an accurate explanation of facts as detailed in the internationally distributed training schedules and course documentation. In order for the Federation of the Red Cross and ICRC to obtain training uniformity the course has been formulated to cross cultural, race, religion and international boundaries and offers students a series of scenarios based in the fictitious country 'Alphaland'. Despite the game 'Lump Ball' being discussed in numerous course scenarios no rules were ever developed until the recent course in New Zealand (where I with the help of another participant expanded rules and outline of the game). Following the successful roll out and demonstration of the game to a senior delegation of New Zealand and Australian IFRC and ICRC staff it was suggested by them that I present it to the federation in Geneva next year! It is also intended that the rules will form the basis of an additional module to the course which will assist in team development and co-operation. Whilst I understand the pages may require some modifications (I am a new contributer after all) the content is accurate and important and worthwhile for inclusion. Use of Rollback

I understand that not every person is going to be able to fully comprehend WP:Place. I get it. Yet when you revert something that you may personally not agree with, it is not usually wise to use Rollback on an edit other than vandalism. It looks like you used WP:Rollback on my edit, thereby making it seem as if I was vandalizing the page, am I mistaken?

Also, your Edit summary at Jack Ruby, suggests that you did not review WP:Place before making two reverts on two articles, based on that policy. You should really review policy before passing judgment on it. There are many policies and guidelines at wikipedia, and no one editor, regardless of who they are, can remember every detail.

Also there have been previous discussions on this topic, that are available to review in my FAQ on my talk page.

Like I say in my FAQ, I'm not going to edit war with you. If you are so inclined that you feel that the articles are better this way, dispite policy and previous discussions, go right ahead. I won't stop you, I only fix the articles as I go.

My greatest concern was your use of Rollback on an edit that was clearly not vandlism, unless you some hoe feel that it might be. FYI, the page was not eligible under G4, WP:CSD is very clear, saying in the third paragraph "Administrators should take care not to speedy delete pages or media except in the most obvious cases. If a page has survived a prior deletion discussion, it should not be speedy deleted except for newly discovered copyright violations." Nyttend, your decision to restore was correct in policy, Fastily's deletion was contr-policy, as was the tagging by an editor who had previously been warned about just this sort of thing. National Register lists in Oregon

Hi. I've noticed you making a large series of changes today to the list articles of National Register of Historic Places listings in Oregon. I have a concern because I find that I disagree with nearly every one of your individual changes (with a very few exceptions). I already undid your omnibus edit to National Register of Historic Places listings in Washington County, Oregon whole-cloth, before thinking that there was a better way to engage over how these articles should develop. In that spirit, I'd like to invite you to a dialog about what you think needs to change in these articles.

Disclosure: I have a long history with these articles, most of which I authored from scratch. I respect and am very cognizant of WP:OWN, and have no desire to be an unyielding blockage or serious impediment to your work (especially since I'm on a 90+% wikibreak right now). At the same time, I care quite a bit about these articles, so I want to be sure that developments are carefully considered.

What I'd like to do is go through each detail-level change you've made so far and state my reasons why I'm uncomfortable with it. My objections to each detail-level change are of various natures and intensities, so we may come to different consensuses in different cases (trans.: I'll back down more quickly in some cases than others). I'd then like to hear your response to each item, with your counter-reasoning or whatever. If after a bit of discussion you remain unconvinced by what I have to say and want to stick with your change, then I'll just go back to my wikibreak and defer to you. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate it if you could suspend further edits to these articles until we finish our back-and-forth, so that your ongoing edits can be informed by our discussion.

What is your opinion of the logo for the Davey Tree Expert Company? It has a little tree on it that has the "registered trademark" symbol, as seen here, but obviously "DAVEY" can't be copyrighted and it seems the trademark is on the name as opposed to the logo. Township opinion

Hello Nyttend- I wanted to know your opinion on this whenever you have a chance to read it over and reply. It's hardly a pressing matter, so no need to rush! In developing the Franklin Township, Portage County, Ohio article, I also put together a "Notable natives and residents" section using the one from Kent, Ohio. It can currently be found in my sandbox at User:JonRidinger/sandbox#Notable residents and natives. The question is what to do with listing notable township residents since there is a lot of overlap and changes in boundaries. Ones like John Brown and Lucius Fairchild lived in what is now Kent, but long before Kent was incorporated, so they definitely lived in the township by all definitions. I guess the question is, should we count notable natives/residents in a particular township until the city or village's incorporation or until they are formally separated (incorporated vs. unincorporated parts)? Do we only count notable residents and natives who live within the current boundaries of the township? In Franklin Township's case, Kent incorporated in 1867 and Brady Lake in 1927 and both formally separated ("seceded") from the township in 1993. All three were counted as part of the township's "incorporated portions" population through the 1990 census. Embarrassment is mine. Thanks for catching the error—it's one of my favorite typos. Which is not an excuse, but a reason why I should be more careful about it...

For what it's worth, the addition to Pohocco Township, Saunders County, Nebraska came about because I'm working on Pahuk, which is on the NRHP; I hope that within a day or so, it will cease to be a red link. On the other hand, it's going to be a beast to photograph. I have a very good idea where it's located, but judging by the Google satellite image, I'm not going to get a good picture without a boat.

The Dravo site looks a lot like the situation at Pahuk. There's a road that runs across the site from the south and dead-ends near the edge of the bluff, so I suspect that I can actually walk out onto it. However, that'd just leave me standing on what the nom form describes as a peneplain. The opposite bank of the river is mostly private land; moreover, there's a good-sized wooded island in the river. I think my best bet is to hope for a very dry summer, during which I can walk out into the Platte. First, though, I need a very water-tight container for my camera...

The bluff-top picture is going to be a last resort, since it's probably going to show nothing but fields with some trees beyond. I think that it might be possible to get permission to go into the woods, and it's possible that I can get some kind of decent shot from there; or, if nothing else, maybe a clear shot of the river from above. The woods are of biological interest, so I'd like a shot of them anyhow. However, I'd rather have something a little more impressive for the infobox photo.

I was torn between Eliza and Hans Brinker...

I think the bluff is at 41°26′05″N 96°35′50″W / 41.434596°N 96.597168°W. On the NSHS website, it's illustrated with this aerial photo. Note the road that runs northward to the edge of the bluff and then turns east, the shape of the wooded area inland and to the west of the road, and the gully east of the road. A newspaper story that I didn't cite in the Pahuk article described the site's owners' problem with wildcat dumping, facilitated by a road running up to the bluff edge; I think that's what Google Maps calls County Road 16.

From birding the area, I know that there's gated private land immediately southeast of Fremont Lakes SRA. I think that my best bet for a picture is to try to work through the park down to the riverbank, and see how far upstream I can get before hitting no-trespassing fences. Of course, if I get too far upstream, then the wooded island immediately north of the site will cause problems.

vicinity edits

In this edit u reverse my reverting of your removal of "Vicinity" qualifier for a community in Oklahoma, i think something like Perkinsville, Oklahoma. I really don't know why you would want to remove that location information. Since a NRHP nominator or staff person or someone chose to write "vicinity of" the community, the implication is that the place is not in the community. It is sourced info that the place is in the vicinity; it is unsourced and probably inaccurate to state that the place is in the community instead. It just seems slamdunk wrong to change the info, unless you have actual real knowledge of town lines of Perkinsville and have done a proper analysis and so on. Somehow you think differently apparently?

This is one of a number of NRHP list-article formatting/accuracy issues open. I believe that this was one of several issues just discussed for several Oregon list-articles. Would you open or participate in, if i opened, a discussion on this formatting point for NRHP list articles, at wt:NRHP or somewhere else if you prefer? I figured out my error in assumption

I figured out my blunder (not that you care, but I do). I had a Commons page open because I was doing some uploads. When I looked at any of my contributions, I saw the Commons logo in the upper left. Then I looked at a few images in National Register of Historic Places listings in Hartford County, Connecticut, the first one of which is an en.wikipedia, and I see the Wikipedia logo in the upper left. I mistakenly convinced myself that I could tell whether it was in en.wikipedia or in Commons, but looking at the logo. When I clicked on the next and the next images, instead of looking at the description under the image, I just glanced at the logo, which is the Wikipedia logo. I now see that most are on Commons. Many thanks for your comment. We have the same problem at WikiProject Wisconsin. One editor started 2 articles about unincorporated communities in Outagamie County that turn out to be in the city of Appleton which is incorporated and are neighborhoods. Also in Kenosha County, the newly created village of Bristol annexed the remaining town of Bristol and some unincorporated communities of the town became neighborhoods of the new village. Hi Nyttend,

I am not sure exactly why this page was deleted? Please can you advise what changes I can make for it to stay on there. You mentioned that there was no relevance to the subject, the actual word relates to the organisation and the movement that has been started so I'm not sure exactly why it has been deleted when I have provided relevant sources that can be contacted and all the information about what it relates to and it provides a very objective tone to what is happening with Inspower?

When I received a post for speedy deletion, I ensure that I took action and stayed up quite a few hours making certain changes.

I had made sure that I edited this to the standard which was required by linking to different articles and other wikipedia pages and also referencing project partners that are part of the organisation as well as those who are supporting this movement currently.

Deletion of No Limit Kids: Much Ado About Middle School

I recently created a new article for the film No Limit Kids: Much Ado About Middle School. As you are aware, it was based on an earlier page that was deleted through discussion and therefore you deleted it. On the talk page of the new article, I stated the article had been improved and enhanced per instructions. Here's how... 1) To start with, it has the full and complete title of the film which was an error of the original article which sometimes didn't allow the film to be searched properly for news, web pages, etc. 2) New references were added to newspaper articles surrounding the film. 3) Since the original article in July, the film has won several leading festival awards in the Christian Films community including the Phoenix International Christian Film Festival award for "Best Film for Young Viewers" and the "Redemptive Storytellers Awards" in Virginia. 4) It has also been accepted in at least four other festivals since the original article, including the prestigious International Black Film Festival of Nashville scheduled to screen next week. 5) Since the July article, it has also been featured in several national magazine articles including the Methodist's youth version of Upper Room - Devozine (circulation 3 million worldwide), Family Times Magazine (30,000), LA Parent (cir 95,000), and others. While I respect the decision of the Wiki community, I ask that you reconsider your immediate deletion of the new article, and if necessary ask what the process would be to have it reinstated and reviewed again by it's peers based on the current merits of the film. Hey. I've got OH 274 on my list to start expanding today. It will have at minimum an intro and a RD placeholder soon, and will add JCTs and History soon after. If you might have noticed, I've been on a quest to improve the overall quality of the Ohio Highways WikiProject, working gradually to improve the overall quality level. There are still well more than 350 stubs, and several more routes that don't have a page because of the mass removal in late 2007. There are a few editors out there who have been protective of stubs on the project, and haven't moved yet to start adding sections that are in line with the current WP:USRD standards (RD, History in prose/using O.D.O.T. sources, JCTs) to at least upgrade them to starts. I was wondering if you might be interested in helping out the effort, as I know you've been active in starting up a number of route pages in the last few years, as well as adding content like photos. Keep it in mind for future reference, though, when you may have some free time...if even just adding a History section (O.D.O.T. archived maps are an acceptable source), or using the SLDs for determining JCTs, here and there. Actually, I'm in the middle of writing a new, expanded intro for OH 274. Dozens of route pages, like 189, 190, 245 and many others were removed, exactly for that reason...they only had an infobox. I recently got a message that a "joke edit" had been submitted on the Cridersville, Ohio page in reference to the town changing its name for a day to "Snidersville". That did, in fact, happen. Here is just one of the numerous articles about the event:

The main reasoning for deletion was "Useless copy-paste rationales; it is not clear why this image is needed in any of the usages." otherwise I would have just gone ahead and orphaned it like you say. Like I say, that was not my main reasoning for deletion. Regardless of the existence of free images, that image should not be in the vast majority of usages, as it fails NFCC#8. I think you'd struggle to find an image that doesn't help the reader to visualise. If a non-free image of a dead person adds nothing to an article, I will remove it; I would hope you would do the same. The consensus is that a single image of a person in the article about them does add something, and so, if irreplaceable with a free image (as will sometimes be the case with dead people) I would not remove a single shot merely which was there to show who they were/what they looked like. However, I would most certainly remove it from other articles in which it was used (I have done so while we were talking) if the appearance of that person is not of importance to the article in question. Thomas FitzSimons High School, now in the article The Young Men's Leadership School at Thomas FitzSimons High School, referred to by the NRHP (in the Philly Multiple Schools Document) as Thomas Fitzsimons Junior High School (only once as far as I can see), on the school building itself as THOMAS FITZSIMONS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, and on page 4 of the US Constitution and by the school district as Thomas FitzSimons, but in our List of signers of the United States Constitution as Thomas Fitzsimons is causing me some problems. I've forgotten how to change article names - is there any chance you could eliminate the "The Young Men's Leadership School at" in the article title? All this is just a nice way of saying that your last reversion of me was unconstitutional. I'll attach p.4 of the Constitution so you can look for yourself (near bottom right hand corner).

This raises the question of what to do with the 150+ red links in the NRHP Philly lists. I've thought that sooner or later I will make one big article on the Multiple Property Submission and then link all the homeless red links to it. Any suggestions on how to make such an article would be appreciated, but it's clear that I can't make 150 articles based on almost no other sources than the MPS.

If the weather cooperates tomorrow, the Philly lists should have fewer than 10 entries without photos (18 left now, but they are all in the boonies). If you wanted to come to Philly for Christmas vacation, we could save a few for you!

I wanted to end the Philly marathon by doing the Germantown Historic District. About 4 miles of one road (conveniently named Germantown Avenue), with just about every block having a "significant" site, and 2 or 3 "contributing" sites, not to mention the NRHPs and NHLs already photographed. A one day marathon would be a great way to mark the end. And I wanted to thank you for getting me started on Germantown.

Thanks for the move. The MPS for 150+ Philly schools is in the infobox at Francis M. Drexel School. Yes, there are almost 400 other articles (maybe 175 or so already started) but the school MPS really hangs over any attempt to fill in the red links in the Philly lists. Most schools are barely mentioned in the MPS. I was sure you suggested I start Germantown - but can't find it on my talk page or archive. Seattle (without the rest of King County, Washington) seems to be fairly close to FI. The remains of a tropical storm are doing the East Coast now, with flash flood warnings tonight in NJ, but tomorrow is the clearest forecast of the next 3. Smallbones (talk)

"Barely mentioned" means one line, rather than 2 pages (unless I'm missing where the pages are hiding). I think it's the remains of Tropical Storm Nicole (2010), moving through until Sunday. 1st heavy rains of the last 2 months were last week. Tomorrow is the window of opportunity. Warning and request

Please refrain from working on images. I am asking nicely. However if you continue I will take the matter up in another venue. You clearly have a lack of understanding of the polices, copyright law, fair use and other very important issues in regards to images. If you need help please ask me or someone else that is knowledgeable with images, however please refrain form removing tags on images that are correctly tagged such as File:2007 Sports Day.jpg Soundvisions1 (talk) 10:10, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

I had asked nicely for you to refrain from working on image related issues and removing valid tags from images such as File:2007 Sports Day.jpg, yet you have again reverted without any discussion, implying you have some sort of immunity as an admin. Actually I am not using rollback - I am reverting. Again, please refrain from removing valid image tags and please take a break from image related issues. With all due respect your comments at deletion discussions and tag removals and associated comments have aided in my realization that you do not have a very good understanding of image use policies including fair use and copyright. Again, if you wish me to help you with understandings of these please ask and I will. Nyttend, you'll note I have now tagged this image for speedy. This is not to piss you off (so I hope it doesn't). I don't know why you turned down the original - it certainly is a copyvio although I have tagged it as no permission instead, as AGF the uploader may be/have been in a position to ask the college for permission to release the image. However, the college (not the uploader) would need to supply written/email permission to OTRS - this is both our policy and the college's policy You may not copy (other than a copy for personal use), modify, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, transfer, resell, or republish any of the Contents of this Website without the prior written consent of Vidura College. I think that the history shown at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:Skywriter reported by User:Nick-D (Result: ) does show edit warring despite the lack of technical 3RR violation. I was apparently investigating at the same time as you, and had decided to block Skywriter for repeatedly re-inserting the same material without first attaining consensus. Cabela's Alaskan AdventureSSSS

Dear Nyttend. I undid your contribution to the page Cabela's Alaskan Adventures. The game is named with an S (so adventures, not adventure). Look at this evidence:

Every evidence says it is Cabela's Alaskan Adventures with an s. The picture on the page is the windows version. (and the article clearly says the windows version is named different) The original version was the ones from PS2 and Xbox 360. The pictures above clearly says its with an s. Blackford County Courthouse

Nyttend - thanks for the link to the Blackford County Courthouse in the National Register of Historic Places. I sent away for a paper version of the form (which I now have), but the link will be useful. I am currently finishing a page on the Hartford City Courthouse Square Historic District -- it is in my sandbox -- I am still tinkering with wording, and need to streamline the footnotes. I have already completed List of properties (Hartford City Courthouse Square Historic District). Currently, my next planned project is the Blackford County Courthouse. However, if this would ruin your own plans, let me know. I have several small towns I could work on instead, and I took 4 or 5 pictures (including two inside) of the courthouse that you could possibly use that I can upload.
