DYK nomination of List of National Sports Award recipients in Olympic sports

Hello! Your submission of List of National Sports Award recipients in Olympic sports at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. I see you!

I will be nice, and take my time (since I'm new to editing on this forum). But, you know as well as I do that Kropotkin was no communist in the modern sense (if you had read any of his writings without your agenda or ego interfering, then you would concede such) The term might not have been used in his day but by modern understandings he would most definitely be distinguished from todays mammoth centralized communist governments around the world. You know you are being disingenuine and so do I. True communism is only possible at the tribal level, and if you had any knowledge of anthropology then you would know that. "Mutual Aid" is the only reference I need, its spelled out pretty plainly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bennybooboo78 (talkcontribs) 23:00, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

@Bennybooboo78:, I am not even aware who Peter Kropotkin is. I was just patrolling pages and fighting vandalism on Wikipedia. Kindly go through WP:Reliable Sources before proceeding any further. This is an encyclopedia and only summaries what reliable sources say about the subject. You can't use your own theory, original research to come to a conclusion and then start typing that here. It seems that you are not heeding to the warning messages posted on your talk page. If you continue on your disruptive editing path, you will be blocked here. I suggest that you go through Wikipedia:Wikipedia Adventure, it's a beginner's guide to the whole project. Roller26 (talk) 23:18, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Sorry

I thought you were the person editing my comments. I mistakenly changed some code I think (on accident) thinking it had something to do with editing-oops. Article removal

I am unsure of why 2 of my articles were put into the draftspace. I had multiple references for each, and there are some articles that have the same amount of references and less information. One example of this is Campus Field, which has less information but the same amount of references. I used reliable sources, because I got the information directly from the school's website. Please let me know why the articles that I made were removed. --Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 20:36, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

@Ajax.amsterdam.fan:, firstly the articles have been moved to draft space where you can work on them, add more references and when you feel its ready for mainspace, you submit the draft for review. Currently, I do no think that both the articles are ready for mainspace, but I believe both have potential with 2-4 more references to be accepted for mainspace. As one of your draft submission was rejected, another user seems to agree with my conclusion. Also kindly don't compare with other articles. The Campus Field article that you mention was created in 2006 when the standards for new page creation were arguably lax compared to today. However, if you feel that article does not meet the WP:GNG guidelines, feel free to take for deletion discussion at WP:AfD.

Updated the party leader

Hello @Roller26,

I have been asked to help to edit this page.

To start off, this is my first Wikipedia submission, kindly bear with my incorrect approach in editing the page.

The main issue we want to clarify is that Agano Party is not associated with the former Prime Minister for Kenya. The references that are listed here have no information relating to Agano Party.

Added the official website for the party as well.

Regarding edits to the 'Finance' section on the 'Roman Catholic Church in Poland'

• Citations do not present evidence of what is being stated, and rather lead to arbitrary websites with no related information. • Websites listed as references lead to websites seemingly hostile to the Catholic Church. • The only seemingly valid reference source seems to be a website that lists a concordat existing between the Church and the state of Poland, which itself seems to be a biased and hostile website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.127.214.94 (talk) 05:53, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

@142.127.214.94:, your edit and another IP's edit had been reverted (the exact same edit) 4 times in a week's time before I too reverted the same edit. This edit included removing substantial paragraph with 2 references, which was reverted by me. Kindly refer to WP:BRD page which discusses how to proceed in such cases. I suggest that you open a section on the talk page Talk:Catholic Church in Poland discussing these points with supporting references and let the community decide on what best to keep on the article. My contribution was deleted

Hi Roller 26, I got a notice that my article was nominated for speedy deletion, and I would like to contest this. First this my independent write up and I am not in any way advertising or promoting anybody. This is what I have researched and made my findings on. I will like to request that my article is properly looked into and published. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omo078716 (talkcontribs) 00:36, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

@Omo078716:, your user page was deleted because it had promotional and non-relevant material there. The user page is usually to describe your interests and work on Wikipedia so that other users can understand your tastes and collaborate with you. It's not there to either promote yourself or write articles. Please see WP:User pages for more detail. In case you need to publish an article on a notable topic use WP:Drafts, where you can write the article and then submit for an experienced user to review it. Please also go through the gist of WP:Notability as articles not being notable will not be accepted. In case of any further help, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Adding archive links at Indian Institutes of Management

The archive links you added at Indian Institutes of Management are unnecessary unless the original links actually die. If links do die, it is a good idea to check for website reorganization (esp. at the IIM sites themselves) being the cause, rather than relying on out-of-date archive links. When it's newspaper/magazine links, it's a good idea to check for reference relevance rather than relying on a possibly out-of-date story. Remember that the archive links should exist, whether we use them now or not, as the archive sites can and do monitor the setting up of the original reference links and prioritize their archiving accordingly. Dhtwiki (talk) 23:55, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Dhtwiki, I not sure how aware you are of how things are really done by Indian organization and media. Often in case of a site revamp lot of old pages are simply vanished including in media websites. You can look around in a number of Indian related WP pages (even popular ones), a number of them exist with permanent dead links. The archive sites didn't archive the links and the content no longer exists on the website. In some other cases, the indexing on these revamped websites is not done properly, taking ages to find the content properly. Government run websites are even worse. Also the site administrators on these website often rewrite the pages. For example in case of annual event, the same link is used again and again without archiving the previous event in some other link. In such cases the only option is to rely on the archive sites, and I have found a number of important pages references in WP missing. All this is assuming that a number of pages are not being deliberately being deleted. Roller26 (talk) 00:09, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
If a page disappears it should already be archived and the link can still be made. If that didn't always happen in the past, it should be what is happening now. Your running a bot didn't make the archives happen, and you probably didn't check to see that every link led to an appropriate page (Archive.org has gotten better at sorting out error pages, but in the past certainly it didn't do so well). The links (several links actually) should exist for each page here and adding archive links before they're needed really just adds to page size and download time (not immensely in this case) without providing much in the way of usefulness. Can you definitely show that it is otherwise? Dhtwiki (talk) 00:35, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Dhtwiki, If I remember correctly about 15 links were archived for the first time (in this case). However I didn't realize your point about the page size being an issue before. I was just following the practice of an experienced editor (with a number of GAs and FLs). I do this with the all the pages that I have created and significantly contribute (or expect) to. Greetings to you, Thank you for your valued feedback. I truly salute you for trying to assure quality and for your attention to detail.

Please allow me to contest your suggestion humbly.

First, all that was written about the individual is in the public domain and is from credible sources from three different continents, namely North America, Europe and Africa.

Secondly, based on my research and triangulation I can confirm that several independent and reputable sources such as websites of Cambridge University, Aston University, University of Leicester, Coventry University, Independent Newspaper in the UK, Varsity and CSRWire have confirmed many of the sentences that I wrote. I

Thirdly, I have also taken direct quotes from the various credible sources to buttress the article in some cases.

Fourthly, this is an example of an individual who has consistently demonstrated impact over ten years across various continents and would be of interest to the general public.

Fifthly, this article's content is accurate, objective and consistent. It represents an example of a Black British, making a positive difference to society. Hence, this article champions excellence in diversity, inclusivity as a contemporary subject, especially with the Black Live matters campaign.

Finally, even though there is a lot of complimentary content about the topic available in the public domain, I had to use my editorial judgment not to include this not to appear promotional.

I look forward to hearing from you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omo078716 (talkcontribs) 23:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

question

hello. can my name be add to here for this list? have i qualification for that award?--Mojtaba2361 (talk) 00:51, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Content proof

Understood your point on other matters. There is no COI with the person involved. Most of the content is independently researched, and referenced as well as photographic evidences are collected from Anshul Kothari wherever there is doubt on authenticity. Upon verification, the page has been edited accordingly.

However, Please specify a valid reason to remove the "Awards" section on page of Anshul Kothari? Do you need photographic evidence? If yes, please request so. Please avoid unnecessary removal of verifiable content without further discussion Maverickswim (talk) 16:06, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Maverickswim:, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, whose purpose is to summarize information mentioned in secondary reliable sources about a subject. In the case of Anshul Kothari, the secondary reliable sources seems to be newspaper articles and Swimming federation website (for details like results in particular events). Self published sources and websites where user generated content is accepted are typically not considered reliable sources. Whether the subject has won an award or not is not important, its mention in a reliable source is important. (In case of prestigious awards, the primary sources like the award's website or similar is also accepted) Hence providing a primary proof in the form of photographic evidence is not accepted as that's creating an original researched article which is not the purpose of Wikipedia. (I would suggest that such an original article creation would be appreciated at other platforms like Sportskeeda, thebridge.in where they accept user generated original content)
In the 2+ years that you have been on this platform, you have made 35+ edits all relating to Anshul Kothari. At the bare minimum you qualify as a WP:Single-purpose account. However as per your above disclosure, you seem to be a case of paid editing. Please note, while the platform barely accepts unpaid COI editing, undisclosed paid editing is not allowed. Continuing editing in the form of undisclosed paid editing can lead to your account being blocked. Please read WP:COI and WP:UPE before proceeding. I would strongly urge to follow Wikipedia:Edit requests as the way for editing Anshul Kothari page in the future. Roller26 (talk) 18:53, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Roller26: : Thank you for sharing knowledge about various wikipedia policies about reliable sources. Will follow it for future edits on any articles as well. Just a last clarification. Are social media posts from verified handles of a third party organization considered a reliable reference for main article as per wikipedia policies? Maverickswim (talk) 19:06, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Maverickswim:, request you to go through WP:Verifiability and WP:Reliable sources. Your specific query will be answered at WP:SOCIALMEDIA. Roller26 (talk) 19:31, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Roller26: : Information icon Hello, I'm Maverickswim. I noticed that you made a comment that didn't seem very civil, so it may have been removed. Wikipedia is built on collaboration, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. In your earlier comments, you have made a severe conclusion that I am a undisclosed paid editor. I consider some of your statements a personal attack on a new user as per wikipedia policyWP:CIVIL WP:BITE. Please understand that I am not an experienced editor. Also I have no knowledge of coding or HTML which makes it difficult to edit an article in single attempt. Hence, I try to make small edits which ends in multiple attempts to finish an article. Also, I only have decent english language skills. Thus, I request you to show some empathy on new and inexperienced user.

As far as 35 edits are concerned, you may have noticed that lot of them are reference edits or addition of achievements with "reliable newspaper" references ( It took me multiple attempts to understand various codes and tags to write a reference). Also, since I don't have vast experience of editing, I resisted from editing multiple articles on Wikipedia so that content is not spoiled at multiple articles. Please understand mistakes about "POV" in 1-2 paragraphs doesn't make one a paid editor.

Thank you for giving links earlier about Wikipedia policies. Yes, now going forward, I am spending more hours to read various Wikipedia policy after you flagged concerns on POV tone . I am not an experienced contributor and still do not understand Wikipedia jargons. I saw that you are an experienced contributor. Hence, I request you to re-read this Wikipedia policy WP:BITE WP:IJME https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers

Regarding future edits on any article, Neutral POV tone will be maintained. However, if you find issues on references or content without references, please discuss instead of completely removing a work of new user like me. Regarding awards section in article of Mr. Anshul, you have mentioned that primary sources are accepted. Hence, whenever in future, award websites (primary sources) are updated, content will be added with reliable and relevant reference.

Hope we can reach an amicable consensus. Maverickswim (talk) 06:55, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

@Maverickswim:, first of all in case of seeking dispute resolution or reporting an incident you can go to WP:Dispute resolution or report me at WP:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents in case you find my actions/behaviour improper and want community consensus. However go through WP:BOOMERANG before reporting me. I am perfectly aware of WP:BITE policy and believe that I have been civil in my interaction with you. I did not conclude anything (I have no right to conclude, only the community can), I merely suggested based on your editing history and your responses that your account seems to be COI or UPE. First when I came across the Anshul Kothari article, I removed the egregious POV statements, extremely PUFF worded statements and unsourced material. I also provided a proper edit summary stating so. Within days, you showed up adding most of these things back. That is when I again removed those and added warning templates to your user page.
Your account has done nothing but only edit this article in over your 2+ year history. Its a very obvious SPA account, with your interests obviously not aligning with Wikipedia's interest. Now you take the cover of a new user who isn't fluent in English to deflect this matter. Your English is more than fluent in all your editing and responses here for you understand all of this. Wikipedia editing doesn't require any knowledge of HTML or coding to edit here. You can edit in Visual editor and even in source editing, all of the basic options are available in the toolbar. On top of which there are literally 1000s of help pages to guide one in the Wikimarkup language for all advanced use here. You have added nearly 5,600 bytes of data to Anshul Kothari page. [1] You editing history makes it clear that you are pretty proficient in editing with basic tools on this page, so don't give this reason for not editing any other page. There is no need for discussion for removing extremely PUFF worded statements, highly POV statements and uncited statements which typically require citations.
Go though WP:COISELF to understand the limited cases in which direct editing is allowed. I would request you to use the template {{COI editnotice}} for any editing on Anshul Kothari page. Failure to do so from you, will result in me reporting you to WP:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard where the community would deliberate on further course of action. Roller26 (talk) 11:17, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

@Roller26: : Well , I never said I am not fluent in English. I said in humble manner "I have decent english skills". But you seem to have overlooked it in the heat of moment and its seems like attempt to get back at me. I just said I am not fluent in html tags or visual editor or whatever else jargons you use. You might feel it is simple to edit using templates, tags etc. However for me it is not simple, it took time to learn by making mistakes in my edits which is why number of edits increase and I still am not expert with it. You mention about 5600 bytes added. Yes with every attempt, I am getting better at editing rules, policies and other editing skills. Secondly, I never asked for a discussion on POV/ puff statements. I admit it is a mistake. The first time I reverted your change because I did not read POV policy at all and neither was I aware of policy. When you flagged for second time, I read the POV policy in detail and other policies you shared. Hence, going forward such mistakes will be avoided from my side on any edits on any article.

Anyways, I have made my attempt to reach agreement with you in a civil and polite manner. I have admitted my mistake on POV. I have not questioned your actions, in fact I thanked you on multiple occasions when you shared wiki policies. But your last few lines do feel as a threat. Either ways, happy editing!

@Maverickswim: the context in which the wording "I have decent English skills" was used, as a cover for the COI issue was the problem. I am not getting at you or anything. Neither am I issuing any threats. I have outlined the steps that will be taken by me if you continue to edit the article Anshul Kothari without the proper steps. However I would not like to deliberate on this issue any further. I have outlined the steps above in case you would like to take this matter for a community discussion. Regards. My contribution was deleted...2

Hi @Roller26 I am yet to get any update about my contribution that was deleted a few days ago. I sent you a justification on why I believe it should not be deleted but unfortunately I haven't heard back from you. Can you kindly let me know what the next step is? I would really appreciate this. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omo078716 (talkcontribs) 02:33, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

@Omo078716:, go WP:Articles for creation, create the article with all the sources available. Submit it for a review by an experienced editor, who will determine whether the article is ready for mainspace or will provide the reasons if it isn't suitable. Roller26 (talk) 20:15, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

@Wakelamp: request you to through WP:CREATIVE and WP:BASIC to understand the notability guidelines here. Roller26 (talk) 11:22, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Aware of WP:ENT He satisfises "Actors, voice actors, comedians, opinion makers, models, and celebrities:

Has had significant roles in Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 12:07, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

@Wakelamp:, there were no usable references on the page. IMDB and Fandom pages are not used for determining notability. I would suggest that you go though WP:THREE and create an article through WP:AfC and submit that for review by an experienced editor. Roller26 (talk) 12:12, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Can you advise where IMDB not deemed relevant for notability as cast lists are accepted? WP:CITEIMDB Why get an experienced editor involved if not notable? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 12:48, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
@Wakelamp:, as noted in WP:BASIC, you need sources (typically at least 3) which are secondary, reliable, independent and have significant coverage to determine the notability of the subject. IMDB pages as mentioned in WP:CITEIMDB can definitely be used for certain information but do not have significant coverage and often not secondary or reliable to be used for determining notability. I suggested that you go though WP:THREE essay and get higher creditability sources and then create the article for a review by an experienced editor. However it's just an suggestion. Roller26 (talk) 13:01, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. Anyway I see your point on WP:THREE. I referenced wikipedia articles (and I sort of agree with WP:WISNARS} but The Fast Show which you redirect Paul Shearer to is full of WP:NOR.I can find books by going through google books or things like this and Late Night Opening - BBC Radio 4 FM - 27 September 1995 - BBC Genome But is it enough ? In relation to, WP:ENT doesn't have the WP:CITEIMDB exceptions you mention. How do you get an article reviewed by an experienced editor? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 14:42, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
@Wakelamp:, maybe. References where users generate content are usually not acceptable for notability purposes WP:USERGENERATED. Go to WP:Articles for creation, create the article and then submit it for an review. Roller26 (talk) 20:18, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank- you for you time. From what you have said, I have inferred it won't succeed. I am an experienced editor, but I don't create pages as the chances of deletion are too high. I thought I would try the bare minimum, based on links as it is very frustrating, Thank you and thank you for the work you do Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 08:30, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Thank you Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 08:58, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Wakelamp. Roller26 (talk) 11:57, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Vidit Gujrathi page edit

Hi, I am pexea12. I received your message about my edit in Vidit Gurajthi page and it was not a mistake. The part which was removed is:

.He also shared a behind the scene story on GRAPHY , how they become a champion of FIDE Online Chess Olympiad , how he and vice captain Srinath Narayan manage the team, and that also helps team management skills [15][16].

The reasons are:

  • This sentence is poorly formatted. There should be no space before a comma (,) and there should be a space behind a dot (.)
  • What is GRAPHY? The sources (15), (16) are completely irrelevant. I could not find anything related to GRAPHY in those sources. Please state your sources carefully and they must be relevant.
  • About the content of this part, I do not think it is suitable for the section "Early life and chess career". This section should only about a chess player's chess career achievements or chess-related activities. Sharing a story about how a team win the Chess Olympiad and how this player manages the team should not be included in this section, even though it's the Chess Olympiad. You can look at the Magnus Carlsen page. Obviously, he shares his story on many newspapers or platforms, about how he won the World Chess Championship or how he became the world number 1, we do not write any sentences like "Carlsen recently shared his story about how he won the championship without losing a game on platform X".

However, you can write something like:

Vidit has a strong leadership and team management skills [15], [16].

I could not find a way to fix this sentence with these reasons so I decided to delete it. Feel free to discuss about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pexea12 (talkcontribs) 17:00, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

You've made a mistake

You are incorrect in changing a statement that assesses the length of the Iraq War compared to other wars in the middle east. The individual stated that the US war in Iraq would be less than 42 days. If you need clarification you can visit the Iraq War page to determine what year it started.

This was an incorrect prediction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ACC 0011 (talkcontribs) 23:31, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

The article Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for issues which need to be addressed. • A second opinion has been finalised on this GA Review. Your contribution is invited. --Whiteguru (talk) 01:47, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

The article Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. DS Alert

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Avoid leaving misleading edit summaries

On this edit you restored problematic content fraught with WP:NPOV and WP:SOAP violations by restoring undue and unfounded criticism about Modi and a statement of a Maharashtrian politician despite none of this ever had consensus on talk page, nor half the edits were ever discussed on the talk page.

Such use of misleading edit summary constitutes WP:DE. Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 13:34, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Regarding this

Do you even check edits before you revert them and give warnings to new people here? I corrected the redirect. --86.114.247.255 (talk) 23:30, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

@86.114.247.255:, sorry for my action. Roller26 (talk) 23:57, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

FYI

the "artists" sort is not for musical artists or make-up artists... see the sort criteria. Thanks. --- Possibly (talk) 23:57, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

@Possibly:, thanks for the info and correcting the sort. Roller26 (talk) 23:59, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

@49.37.163.147:, thanks for the message. If you are new to Wikipedia, I would recommend that you go through our notability criteria which determines who or which topic should have a stand alone page of their own WP:N and WP:NSPORT. Its important for them to have at least three substantial coverage in independent reliable sources. I don't believe that Lakshmi Praneetha Kommuru qualifies on that basis. Its important to note that she is only a age group national champion and does not have a chess title. (Very often, these people are not notable enough for their own Wikipedia article) I am not sure what relevance her applying for patents on behalf of her company holds in this conversation.
