Thanks for the ping, Namiba. I've responded on that page. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:32, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Your cat

I like your cat so much that I cloned it for my talk page. Hope that is ok. Best wishes. Donner60 (talk) 03:24, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

That's absolutely ok, Donner60. Looks happy over on your talkpage. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 06:29, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Your cat today

What a perfectly timed picture. It looks like it was taken just before the pounce. These have really been a joy to look at. I have loved everyone you have posted. You can feel the depth of personality in each cat. --ARoseWolf 10:33, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, ARoseWolf. Glad you can feel their personalities. I love hearing from people that they enjoy viewing them, or stating which one is a favorite. It makes me super happy to look at cat pictures and pick one a day to place here. Originally, I did it sporadically. In 2009, I stopped for awhile as the person who was mentoring me for RfA said that some people don't like cats so stop posting them on my talkpage, and I complied. My big regret is that I don't have a subpage with every cat that's graced this talkage. Maybe someday, I'll compile it. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:59, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
Started one, User:ARoseWolf/Rosiestep's cats. I'll move it over to you if you want. I just made to page to start it. --ARoseWolf 19:15, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
OMG! Nothing short of astonishment on my side that you would start this. THANK YOU, ARoseWolf. Yes, please move it over at your convenience. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:40, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Is there a specific title you would like me to give it? Might as well complete that when I move it to you. Rosie, it is a joy to do this for you. You have meant so much to me since joining WiR. Really, a few minutes of my time to put this together for you is not a lot compared to the overall impact you have had on my life and the lives of women on Wikipedia over the years. --ARoseWolf 10:13, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
You are very kind; thank you, ARoseWolf. What a miracle Wikipedia is, bringing us together like this, giving each of us a sense of purpose. Is that too big a word, calling it a miracle? I think User:Rosiestep/Cats would be good. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:53, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Done. Miracle is a very appropriate term. It's not that far from a promise which I use quite a lot to discuss us as individuals. Be a promise. Be a rainbow. Something my grandmother used to always say to me. I can't think of a better role in life than to be the color in someone else's sky. If for no other reason than to show them life will get better and how we can be at peace while we wait for it to get there. Much love, Rosie. I'll keep working on the page as I can. I will be on the trails this weekend, first time I'm going solo since I went into remission. I worked last fall and winter to get to this point and I'm nervous but excited. --ARoseWolf 13:54, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Happy trails!
Happy trails to you, ARoseWolf. Hope it is a peaceful experience! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:41, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
I'll work some more on it today and see where I end up. I've been trying to get my mind on something other that what's going on in Israel. My sister lives in Jerusalem and works at the United Nations there. I haven't talked to her in months but we received a message from her saying she is okay. The one problem with living here is you have plenty of time to get the chores done, more than enough time to also worry about things we probably shouldn't. --ARoseWolf 11:43, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, thank you for that. I hope your sister and everyone else in that region is safe. So much tragedy. I know people who are there and I worry about them and theirs. Can't help but worry when bad stuff is happening. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:43, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
It's truly heartbreaking. I believe in love and peace. I love wolves. They are remarkable creatures with personalities and I have formed relationships with wolves in the past. But when a wolf attacks we deal with the threat. Nothing different in this case. I hate it. I want love and peace. Nothing good comes from these conflicts and I fear for many lives loss and my heart is heavy. I worry too, Rosie. My family has faced so much death and destruction in the past. We just want the peace to live and exist. It pains me to see what unspeakable horrors humans can do to fellow humans. Peace, Love, Charity. I love your Song, my friend. --ARoseWolf 19:56, 10 October 2023 (UTC)
ARoseWolf Middle of the night here and I'm wide awake, reading the news. Worried sick. I am so tense. My stomach is in knots. Grateful that we are here together. I love your Song, and your presence, my friend. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:07, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
It is quite early. I spent time in meditation of thought yesterday. I can not offer real words of comfort only words my grandmother has said to me in the past. I had terrible nightmares. She would always hold me close and say, "Child, the darkness will not last forever." There is comfort in that. You can not have a dawn in all it's brilliance as the first rays of the sun dance upon the horizon without first suffering the bitter coldness of the deep, dark night. So too, our lives ebb and flow in periods of darkness and light. Take solace, this too shall pass and there is a certain beauty to the scars of life we gain over time. I hear them as skips in our Song's like the old records I listened to as a child. Some are deep and painful like some of my fellow Jews, and countless others through history, are experiencing now. They can not heal but life goes on and we carry those with us. Each one like a ray of light guiding a listener to a period in time when pain and hurt was the Song we danced to, for a time. This too shall pass. --ARoseWolf 12:29, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
  • What a wonderful exchange! I've also appreciated and admired the sometimes startling photos of cats on your pages, Rosie. While we have also had cats (and dogs) in our family for years, I must say I've never really though of adding them to my pages. But yours are always an added attraction when I try to see what you are up to. And thanks to ARoseWolf for creating a page for them. This kind of thing makes it a real pleasure to be involved in Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 16:17, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
I have enjoyed adding these pictures to the page. I see the character and personality in each. It has been a welcomed distraction. I would have done it anyway but it has been beneficial as a mechanism for thoughtful reflection. Thankfully all my brothers are older and so will not be involved but many spent time as reservist. I have one nephew is of age and as I know is a reservist but I lost contact with my sister a few years ago and only recently re-engaged but I don't know his status. We all watch, hopeful for a resolution and return to peace. Hopeful people find their humanity again. Doubtful it will come soon enough to avoid additional loss of life. --ARoseWolf 16:39, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
It's a really difficult time for us all. I really hope there will soon be a peaceful outcome, both in Israel and in Ukraine. Unfortunately, despite all the efforts of the United Nations and other peace-keeping enterprises, hostilities appear to be growing more intense from day to day. Here on Wikipedia, many of us have tried to bring forward the efforts women have made to try to advance the cause of worldwide peace. Let's hope their efforts will not be forgotten.--Ipigott (talk) 19:46, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
It must not be forgotten, Ian. We have to make sure it is not. Shalom is so much more than just peace. I have always been taught that. As someone whose family survived and died in the Holocaust it would have been easy for bitterness to remain but my Papa and his family always believed that Shalom means so much more than a simple greeting or a term that translates peace. It is wholeness and I sing for wholeness, a healing of the land and people in body and mind and spirit. The scenes are horrific and the people of Ukraine and Israel have that in common at this moment. So I sing over my family all round the world, my friends here on Wikipedia, and my humankind, those who believe in humanity, Shalom. Even as I worry and fear for their safety --ARoseWolf 20:15, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
I hope for your nephew's safety, ARoseWolf. My stomach continues to be in a knot with worry and anxiety and fear. We will not forget, Ipigott! We will remember! We will persevere! As for the cats... for me... they give me some small joy every day. I hear from people that they enjoy seeing them, too, so there's that.
Peace! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:19, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

my story today

My story today is sad but great. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:12, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt May he RIP. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:53, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
same today, did you see? ... but tomorrow will be a birthday! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:55, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Just did. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:34, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
A few more pics, and see my talk for what we sang today (I'm the woman in red, of course), and what Tabea Zimmermann played (today's story on her birthday): I heard it, and it's on YouTube. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
Read with interest the hymn article. Reminder to me to write some of those when I see enough sources in passing, e.g., when working on a hymnist's article. RIP to Ms. Dark; died too soon. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:53, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
It's Mary everywhere in October. - Another RIP, and his voice ("for the chaste madman") was described as "your" cat looks today ;) - amazing that he could reprise that 20 years later - he was on stage at age 80! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Gerda Arendt. To perform at age 80. That is incredible. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:19, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
Well, a year before he performed one of the Mastersingers at the Berlin State Opera, and a colleague another, and the colleague was 95 (as I couldn't help mentioning). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:34, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
More pics, and today's story is on a birthday, and the real DYK was already on that birthday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:34, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
User talk:Gerda Arendt#Music keeps track of "my" music and memories, and just today I have a juxtaposition of music performed by the two church choirs in town, one I sang in and one where I listened, to music about love, evening and night. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:52, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:18, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, will do after I get home... Here's what I'm doing today (3 sessions in a row from 09:00-13:00). --Rosiestep (talk) 00:37, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
Great. I'll be away with the choir all weekend ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 04:26, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
Back, and it was great, pics to come (on top of the one on my talk). - A Romanian woman composer is today's topic. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:19, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
... and today it's about a couple - found the cute image only yesterday --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:23, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
... and today about a woman playing with a man (music), and now I'm on vacation, even took a cat pic, - there are two red cats ready to eat leftovers on tables outside, and will stay a few days, so there may come a better one, - patience please, because even if I take the first, I'd like to upload in chronology --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:23, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, wonderful. I will look at all of these prompts as soon as I am home from Delhi trip (later today, Thu). Enjoy your vacation! --Rosiestep (talk) 12:34, 26 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the visit to my talk! - A French woman today with a small body and a great voice whose portrayal of a role with different aspects I enjoyed! And another interesting composer. - More cats seen and one pictured in a great position, - you'll see, eventually. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:34, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
I thought of Brian Bouldton today, and his ways to compromise. - I'm on vacation again, more pics to come, but too tired after church (pictured on my talk), hiking and paella (with 3 cats unsuccessfully waiting for leftovers, - no good pics, one too fast, one not looking, and one with only one eye). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:02, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I looked at the diff so I see what he did, and I recall BrianB's name, but I never interacted with him. Hope you have a fabulous vacation! I love paella! Whlie in India, I saw only 1 cat (scrawny) and it moved too fast for me to get a photo, but there were lots of feral dogs, cows, monkeys. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:16, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
If you never interacted with him you missed a lot. The fine thing about Wikipedia is that you can get to know someone even after he died. Brian is one of three users in "my" list of those remembered, the others being Jerome Kohl and the cat person. Your next step getting to know Brian may be reading his Signpost essay, written a week before the arbcase was opened. (The link was on my talk, but lost possibly due to an edit conflict. I just restored it.) If others had read it there wouldn't have been an arbcase. But he was such a sensitive and cautious person that he announced his revolutionary step (imagine: an infobox for a classical composer featured article!) only on my talk, and some of his friends still fight an infobox war that should have never begun. There were infoboxes for composers before, even a template created in 2008, and many had one, but came 2010 with a project decision "better without", and in some raid they were taken away. Clara Schumann however, who had taught at the conservatory where Grainger studied (an Australian in Germany at age 13!) has an infobox since 2012, possibly because people didn't take her seriously as a composer ;) - For the last four days, there were three stories of composers, the last today, and all have an infobox, why not? - A friend of mine is travelling in India, and she wanted to take pictures of flowers and cats for me, and was lucky with flowers, but saw no cats, and asked and was told that they are considered as "bad luck". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:56, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
Cute Halloween cats! Today is also Reformation Day, and I believe that reformation is a work in progress. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:52, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Welcome for Sikarwar

Hi Rosie,

I created an account for Sikarwar04, it would be great if you can also welcome her, and maybe help her on her way. Thanks! Ciell (talk) 08:43, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Ciell, and hello, Sikarwar04. It was a pleasure to spend time with you during our tour of Delhi's temples. I hope you try editing Wikipedia and find it enjoyable. I'd be glad to help you along. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:24, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

November music

November songs
story · music

Hevenu shalom aleichem is my story today. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Full of life here. - I added some images from Aachen, taken 21 Oct. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:11, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

And the other pics from the trip, sadly the only animal from the trip is from metal. - My story today is about my song of defiance, - it was a great pleasure to hear it performed today! The line "Ich steh hier und singe" (I stand here and sing) is in the movement with the music pictured, which begins with "Trotz -- Trotz -- Trotz", sounding much tougher than "defiance" ;) - in this YouTube it's at 4:55. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:29, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

You cat today seems to illustrate Trotz ;) - I proudly remember having sung in an oratorio premiere seven years ago OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:20, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

More, if you like: today I have three items on the Main page, almost too much of a good thing! Bach's amazing cantata with the unusual scale, first performed 300 years ago OTD, the nun for the prostitutes, and Schumann's wedding gift for Clara. Also first day of vacation pics uploaded, and with a cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:25, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Another day uploaded, with a cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:25, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Today is St. Martin's Day, which stands for sharing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:14, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Ibiza cat interested in breakfast
Thanks for all the sharing you do with me, Gerda Arendt. From the articles, I learn not only about people, places, and things, but also about you. Particularly, I love your photos, including the kitty interested in someone's breakfast. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:37, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
My pleasure, really! I began another day of vacation pics, as you found ;) - we celebrate the birthday of a friend who wrote quite a book about the compositions of a man who will turn 300 soon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:29, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Another one of Gerda's cat photos
Gerda's "cat on boardwalk"
Thank you, - and another started, no animals yet, but morning glory --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:31, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
... but I now it ends with a cat of many colours (but again no eyes to watch this page) - today my topic is a soprano, with a video. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:52, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I see that she (Rachel Yakar) died this year. May she RIP. P.S. When I archive Nov, your cat photos will join my archive. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 08:37, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the cats! - I believe it was the last one so far. - Yes, RD is a big motivator for improving articles (for me), and each time I feel they should have been improved while the person was still alive. Another, more joyful reason to tell a story is music I sang or heard and love, and in today's, I heard that concert (with my brother playing). 2010. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:49, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
I was wrong: on more in today's batch. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:42, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt: something beautiful and compelling about ...music I sang or heard and love.... --Rosiestep (talk) 16:44, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
More of that: my story today is a DYK hook from 13 years ago OTD: about the great music at one of my churches. Mozart's Requiem to come on Sunday, coupled with Arvo Pärt's Da pacem Domine, - I guess you might come if it was a bit closer. Perhaps watch the video of our last production, our first on yt, ever. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:28, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt: I'm in LA for 10 day (U.S. Thanksgiving) and if you were performing here, I would certainly come watch! --Rosiestep (talk) 19:00, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! - My story today, Canticle I: My beloved is mine and I am his, - the composer, born OTD 110 years ago, didn't want it shorter (but the publisher), more here. I'm back to a good tradition: a Britten composition on his birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt: Cheers to a "good tradition". And from me to you... Happy Thanksgiving! --Rosiestep (talk) 10:51, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! - We sang a good concert today, User Talk:Gerda Arendt#Mozart Requiem, and you have a lovely white upside-down cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:06, 26 November 2023 (UTC)]
Gerda Arendt: Nice! Fun fact... While checking out his Requiem, I notice that Mozart died on my birthday (different year). Agree; that really is a lovely white upside-down cat. Today, a nice blue one who is ready for a nap. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:21, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
Today: in memoriam Jerome Kohl who said (In Freundschaft): "and I hope that they have met again in the beyond and are making joyous music together" --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:22, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

A WCNA Barncompass for you!

WCNA 2023 Barncompass
Thank you for all your planning work behind the scenes, from advising on what the conference would look like, serving on the friendly space committee to evaluating the program submissions. These efforts all ensured that the conference went as smoothly as it could be. I am awarding this barncompass to you. (Barncompass originated in Wikivoyage as a response to Wikipedia's barnstar. Since everyone travelled long distance for the conference and would have no doubt pulled out a map app at some point, awarding a barncompass is probably as fitting as a barnstar.) Martha Tracy Owler moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Martha Tracy Owler, is not suitable as written to remain published, since it's a verbatim copy of WikiSource. The article is far from neutral and many claims lack a source and encyclopedic relevance. In short: it is not an encyclopedic article. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. December music

December: story · music · places

Today's story is about Maria Callas, on her centenary. - Aaron Copland died OTD. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:01, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Gerda Arendt. I keep learning new things. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:04, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
25k+ views for the singer! - A new church year began (listen), - a new era? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:05, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Fascinating and beautiful "new era" image. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:22, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
I got from Bishonen. - Today's story is about parts of my life. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:38, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, indeed, he's quite accomplished. How does it tie with parts of your life? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:30, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
He was my choral conductor, of two choirs I sang with, and he and his future wife became my friends, singing in another choir I sang with at the time, because he wanted to sing with her who was still a secret for "his" choir (and many of the young girls in the first row disappointed when it was no longer a secret). The two are happy grandparents by now, their daughter is an accomplished oboist, pictured here. - I met the composer when he came for a week before the mentioned and pictured premiere, picking him up from the airport and taking him to a restaurant overlooking the Rhine. (We then took turns entertaining him.) Sad that he died. He had written lovely solos for the conductor's oboist daughter. - The restaurant was not far from where I heard a lovely concert today, after listening to a miracle of meditative dreaming on 6 December (or just click on music). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:22, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for sharing the context, Gerda Arendt. BTW, following this link, I took a look today at all the photos on that page of German churches, and followed those links on Commons till I could get a look at the interior of all of those churches. Besides being breath-taking, it made me think about what a wonderful teacher you are through your sharing. I really appreciate you... I should say that more often. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:30, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
Blushing: you are a wonderful responsive student then! - Today, to Paris (29 Nov) with a visit to the Palais Garnier, - to match the story of Medea Amiranashvili, - don't miss listening to her expressive voice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:12, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
My story today is about Michael Robinson, - it's an honour to have known him. An invitation to Ruth and Mike's house was my first Thanksgiving. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:17, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, that Thanksgiving would certainly be memorable. I was in Paris earlier in November; you and I are like ships in the night. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:41, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Will you be in Berlin next week for Anna Bolena? - Today's story is based on a DYK of five years ago, speaking of a world premiere there, and the first world premiere in Germany of a full-length opera by an American woman composer ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:36, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, December is family month for me, so no big travels. Enjoy the show (if you'll be in Berlin). Thank you for sharing about The Alcestiad; what an accomplishment. Yesterday, I dealt with VIAF's "Jane L... Gray", who turns out to be Jane Lewers Gray. Created an article on Jane Loring Gray, too, though she is only an "L." (or an "L. Great! - Pics up to 3 December (with my shadow in one of them), and a story about Beethoven in memory of his birth. When the arb who wrote the infoboxes case installed the community consensus - in 2015! - I hoped these infobox wars were over, really. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:10, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I recall that the infobox issue was contentious. I knew you and others were involved, and that it really mattered to you. Dr. Blofeld kept me informed to some extent, but 2015 was a long time ago, so I don't remember details. I was busy with other things in my life, and didn't follow along with the ArbCom case. My personal opinion? I find infoboxes to be useful; they give me info at a glance, and sometimes, that's all I want. I've never removed an infobox that was placed in an article by someone else. I don't think I've added an infobox to an article created by another editor, but not 100% sure about that. Commonly, I add it to articles I start, but not always (especially if there's no photo; or admittedly, sometimes, I'm just lazy). I'm glad the issue is settled... at least, I think it is. Happy Birthday, Beethoven! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:15, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
Have a cake (home-baked but not by me), enjoyed here before a dream of a concert. - today's story is about the woman who directed today's Aida, with a trailer of her work. - Sorry, I should not have copied what I wrote to all the arb candidates whom I had asked about Mozart (and I could support only one). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:09, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for what you do and stand for! I wish you a good festive season and a peaceful New Year! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:06, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
And same to you, Gerda Arendt; happy holidays, happy New Year! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:17, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you also for the spirited thanks and wishes on top. I'm not quite there yet: today, I have a special story to tell, of the works of a musician born 300 years ago. Don't miss his doggie painted by a Master.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:58, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I had not known about Carl Friedrich Abel before, but now I do. And cute doggie! Among other things this month, I have been creating articles about women poets and hymnwriters, including: Belle R. Harrison, Elizabeth Barr Arthur, Annie R. Blount, Carrie Bell Sinclair, Ada Reedy Vance, Georgie A. Hulse McLeod, Jane T. Worthington, Emelie C. S. Chilton, Katharine Augusta Ware, Jane Lewers Gray, Marian Douglas, Mary Newmarch Prescott, Abby B. Hyde, Sarah White Livermore, Margaret Mackay (writer), Julia Anne Elliott, Mary Fawler Maude, Ena Fitzgerald, Eliza F. Morris, and Eliza Scudder. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:30, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
That's impressive! - For more Abel look and listen, and I smiled when I looked at the pic from Köthen. Remember that I opened 2019 with a pic from that same hall? Doing something twice means a tradition ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
Merry Christmas, Gerda Arendt! --Rosiestep (talk) 08:17, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Christmas music pictured --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:44, 25 December 2023 (UTC)

I try to finish uploading images of 2023 before it ends, and reached 17 December. Happy to see Rebekka Habermas on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:51, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, nice goal, and getting to 17 Dec is great... far better than what I've managed. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:46, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
I uploaded more pics, with Christmas trees and related artworks, and I have two women on the Main page (for a sad reason). Our Christmas singing (of my user's infobox music "singen, singen") was pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:30, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Editor experience invitation

Hi Rosiestep :) I'm looking to interview people here, feel free to pass if you're not interested. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:06, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Clovermoss. I filled it out as it seemed like an interesting survey. Do you plan to do anything with the results? --Rosiestep (talk) 08:04, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Not particularly, I thought it was something that was useful to have in itself. For example, I figured if there was some sort of common theme in regards to newbie struggles maybe we'd have better awareness as a community in how we could do better. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 08:20, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

New WIR page presentations

Thanks, Rosie, for your work on this. It's good to see links to more WIR pages. I don't know why but the TOC has disappeared from Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Showcase. Perhaps you could restore it as otherwise it is difficult to find the various sections.--Ipigott (talk) 08:45, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Ipigott. Sorry about that. It think that my only edit on that page was switching from "Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/WiR header" to "WikiProject Women in Red tabbed header". As I'm not sure what to do to bring back a TOC, I asked on the WiR talkpage. Hope someone with more tech expertise can sort it out. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:10, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Glad to see it's back. I see the TOC has also disappeared from Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Ideas, Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members and no doubt many others. Perhaps Maddy from Celeste can fix these too or can simply solve the problem by editing the new header.--Ipigott (talk) 10:31, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
I've removed the __NOTOC__ in the template that was suppressing the tables of contents. -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 10:50, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Maddy from Celeste. Great help!--Ipigott (talk) 14:46, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Ipigott for noticing the issue, and thank you, Maddy from Celeste, for fixing it. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:50, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Sorry to bother you again, Rosie, but do you think the Overlooked page is really worth including? It dates back to 2018. Maybe there are more recent links we can include to the NYT (for those who have access) but those from 2018 seem to have been covered. It looks to me as if we should also update Resources and Tools and tech but no urgency. I just think we need to make sure all the links are working and useful and that those offering help are still available. I can start taking a closer look tomorrow. I also wondered if we should not try to add a few introductory words to each page along the lines of those which already have an About section. Article alerts is particularly in need of guidance. What do you think?--Ipigott (talk) 16:26, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Ipigott, I noticed the same thing when I was adding the tabbed header templates. Each page should have an introductory section, and some pages (like the ones you mention) need to be updated (or marked as "retained for historical purposes"). Shall we ask for support (volunteers) for this task on the WiR talkpage? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:51, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Let me first taken a closer look at the over the next day or two. It may then become clearer what kind of assistance we need.--Ipigott (talk) 06:39, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Outreach, MassMessage, Mailing lists, etc.

  • What's happened to "Outreach"? It used to present this list which now seems to have disappeared. I use it all the time for adding new users to our mailing lists.--Ipigott (talk) 12:01, 5 December 2023 (UTC) I see now there is a section on MassMessage but it is not easy to find. The page on New Members under "Join" contains a link too. Perhaps I should just get used to the new presentation but it might also be useful to have an item on "Mailing lists" which would then be more accessible to all. I know that non-members often add their names and that members sometimes delete them.--Ipigott (talk) 12:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the explanations. I've solved the problem for myself by adding a link from my user page. Unless anyone else encounters difficulties, I don't think we need a new icon from the main WIR page.--Ipigott (talk) 09:01, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Ideas

  • I've been looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Ideas under Events: future plans. While it seems sensible at this stage to have moved general suggestions to an archive, I think it is important to encourage contributors to come up with new ideas, not just about events but about WiR in general. It might be worthwhile adding something along these lines to the About section and perhaps encourage everyone to present more general ideas about how the project could be improved, in addition to suggestions for specific events. In this connection we could address initiatives for encouraging and maintaining new members, more regular contacts with related "women" projects and with wikiprojects dealing with issues of common interest (writing, sports, biography, science, awards, etc.). In particular I think we need to address the potential of organizing competitions of one kind or another, whether or not they include physical awards. They have attracted wide attention in the past. I have also been wondering to what extent Women in Red could become more active in encouraging items for In the news, Recent deaths and On this day which provide excellent slots for presenting women on Wikipedia's main page. Collaboration with WikiEdu and with Meta's interest in women could also lead to new initiatives and reinforce collaboration with communities outside the EN Wikipedia. I think it would be useful to provide a slot for people to comment on these and any other more general ideas which emerge. Sorry to land you with all this on your talk page, Rosie, but it all results from your new page presentations.--Ipigott (talk) 13:21, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Hi Ipigott. Interesting. I think this should be discussed on the WiR talkpage. Thanks --Rosiestep (talk) 16:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
  • How about just changing the icon wording to "Future events & ideas"? The rest could be summarized in an extended About section. If I'm not mistaken, the old Ideas page was not just for events planning but for wider discussion about how to improve the project and its overall impact on coverage of women. We could even include a new section on "General WiR developments" or something similar.--Ipigott (talk) 17:05, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Hi Ipigott, sounds reasonable. Go for it (icon wording; extended About section)! Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:27, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
  • OK, I've changed the icon wording to "Planning & ideas" as "Future events & ideas" would have stretched over four lines. It might now be good to change "Events: past and present" to "Events past and present" (without the colon) but I'll leave that to you. Please also feel free to adapt the text under the new heading "General ideas for improving Women in Red". One way of drawing attention to this would be to include something in our invitation for January but you might also like to mention it on the WIR talk page. As you may have noticed, I've looked at the other items and made a few changes. For the time being, I think I've done what I can. Thanks again, Rosie, for triggering interest in all of this.--Ipigott (talk) 08:43, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Ipigott, changed "Events: past and present" to "Events past and present". Changed "Planning & ideas" to "Ideas & planning" so that it stays in alpha order. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Ipigott, I'll leave it to others to mention something in our Jan invitation and/or on the WiR talkpage. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Let's wait a few days and see whether anything else emerges. I then think it might be useful to mention the changes on the WIR talk page and perhaps on the talk page of Ideas, pinging some of our more active participants. It could all become part of our new look and ambitions for 2024. Our enterprising WomenArtistUpdates may even be able to come up with one of her stunning images.--Ipigott (talk) 16:50, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
Ipigott and Rosiestep, I can't think of a good way to graphically convey the info about the new look, but I think it might make a good "Tip of the Month" Check out the new navigation on our Women in Red Project home page. --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:34, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
WomenArtistUpdates, Thumbs up icon! --Rosiestep (talk) 20:20, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Essays

I'm afraid I can no longer find our essays anywhere. For me, this is one of the most important items on Women in Red. I frequently refer to it when welcoming new users or when I come across shortcomings in articles written by our contributors. Rather than having "Resources & essays" (where they are not yet mentioned), I think it would be useful to have a direct link to "Essays" from an icon in the new presentation.--Ipigott (talk) 10:53, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Sorry about this. I seem to have unintentionally deleted more than I intended. I've now restored the earlier version.--Ipigott (talk) 13:30, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

The essays are listed under the Resources tab. The tabbed header stretches quite far to the right, so you need to scroll over to see it. Oronsay (talk) 14:11, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
  • In case other editors are also unable to find what they are used to finding, I added a tab for Essays. @Ipigott and Oronsay:. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Thanks, Rosie. The essays really are important. I think for the time being everything now looks fine and people should be able to find what they need. Now that you have facilitated access to some of the resources not previously included, our participants will be in a better position to make any useful improvements. In the light of Oronsay's comment that the icons on the right are difficult to see on smaller screen sizes, I was wondering whether there is any way of wrapping them around as was possible with the earlier icons. But as far as I can see Wikipedia:WikiProject Women and Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history face similar problems.--Ipigott (talk) 15:57, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

The New York Times "Overlooked"

  • Thank you, @Ipigott, for raising Overlooked and to you, @Rosiestep, for moving it to the Redlists, where I think it belongs, even better when some redlinks are added. I'll see if I can rustle up some redlinks to add. Perhaps the page will need a History section and a Since 2018 or Recent additions heading? Oronsay (talk) 20:44, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
  • As a courtesy, notifying Gamaliel who was involved with the page back in 2018. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:00, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Thanks for noticing, Oronsay and yes indeed... sections, headers, new redlinks, etc. would improve that page. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:00, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
I have checked through the "Overlooked" entries for 2021, 2022 and 2023 and have only found one bio missing, Ady Fidelin, also known as Adrienne Fidelin. Looks like slim pickings, but I will keep checking. Oronsay (talk) 21:48, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

About us

A page on About us is linked under "See also" on our main WIR page. I wonder if it is still appropriate now that we have the new icons. No urgency.--Ipigott (talk) 17:13, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

I've deleted this as it is really dated. I suggest any important items should be added to the About section at the top of the page but I don't think anything needs urgent attention.--Ipigott (talk) 13:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Hi Rosie. I've reduced the font size of "Welcome to Women in Red!" to 200%. At 250% for half screen size on MS Windows "Red" was wrapped back over the other text. Hope this is OK with you.--Ipigott (talk) 12:51, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Events

There seems to be something new to discuss here every day, Rosie. I have noticed that the current events are no longer listed on the main WIR page. There have occasionally been problems with this over the years as the transcluded Events section used to be automatically displayed under Project X. Isarra was able to restore things for us once or twice but she is no longer active and our friend Harej never responds to requests. The problem now seems to be that the new icons on the Events page are upsetting the transclusion. I think it's important for those viewing our main WIR page to be able to see what's going on without having to click through to another page (and perhaps forget to return). If you agree it's important, we have two options: we either try to get someone with technical expertise to re-establish the info on the main page automatically (as before) or we simply copy it in manually whenever it is updated (maybe as part of the monthly planning process). If you don't think it's important, then we could just delete Events from the main WIR page and hope that people will click on the appropriate icon. What do you think?--Ipigott (talk) 14:36, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Ipigott - I didn't envision that the tabbed header template would make so many changes. But the outcome -a review of the status quo- is, IMO, a good thing, e.g. noticing what's transcluded from elsewhere. Regarding this particular question, I'd prefer whatever solution is simplest, but more than that, I'd like to hear the opinion of others on the main WiR talkpage. I fear that making decisions on my talkpage isn't WiR at its best. Thanks for noticing what happened at Events (and elsewhere) and I look forward to following the convo about it on our main talkpage. And, or course, let me know how else I can support any snafus I've made. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:39, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
I thought I should first bring it to your attention as you were the one who made the changes, Rosie. I don't know either how or why these unexpected problems have occurred. By all means mention it on the main WIR page if you wish but there's never been much response there for problems resulting from Project X. If we go for a technical solution, I think The Earwig might be able to help. Let's see if he responds here.--Ipigott (talk) 18:04, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Ipigott. I have an idea for this and I'll respect Rosie's request and follow up on the WiR talk. — The Earwig (talk) 04:49, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
On second thought, Ipigott, maybe there isn't enough for a full discussion. I've hopefully fixed the issue. The /Events subpage has the correctly formatted headings Rosie added, while the transclusion on the main WiR page now has smaller headings so it fits on the page and in the ToC better. Does that help? The markup got a bit more complicated, but hopefully not too much. — The Earwig (talk) 05:16, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Earwig, for your quick response. Perhaps I did not explain the problem clearly enough. Until we had the new icons at the beginning of December, the contents of the old "Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Events" page (see version of 1 December) were automatically copied over to the main WIR page. But as the Events page has now been considerably modified, it looks to me as if all we can do is to copy things over manually - unless you have any other suggestions.--Ipigott (talk) 08:08, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
  • I've simply copied the current events over to the main WIR page as there doesn't appear to be any other option. This will need to be done every month. I'll make the necessary changes to the instructions, etc., on the Ideas page. It's probably just as well that we are moving away from the vestiges of Project X.--Ipigott (talk) 09:13, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
@Ipigott: Hi, sorry I didn't receive your ping – you pinged another user – but can either of you please explain what is the issue with my version transcluding the events page (this screenshot) compared to your version copying the events manually (this screenshot)? I don't see the events missing in my version. I did spend a little time to get that working the other week, and I'm a little upset we appear to be talking past each other. — The Earwig (talk) 03:22, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
The Earwig: I'm so sorry about this confusion. I think I've made this pinging mistake before. In future, I'll be much more careful. I see from your screen shot that you had indeed solved the problem. When I looked at the page after your last message I found the current events section was still blank but that was no doubt a cache problem. I'm afraid if I try to work on this myself, I'll probably cause more trouble. I would therefore very much appreciate it if you could restore your version. It will mean one less step in our monthly updating process.--Ipigott (talk) 06:33, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Ipigott, I've just done that. I'm glad we could get this resolved. Let me know if we see further issues, and happy holidays! — The Earwig (talk) 13:52, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Looks good to me, The Earwig. I hope Rosie is also happy with this display. All the best to you and yours too.--Ipigott (talk) 14:04, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, @The Earwig and Ipigott, and happy holidays! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:17, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
All the best to you too, Rosie. I look forward to another year of productive collaboration.--Ipigott (talk) 16:37, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Did I miss the cake? Buster7 (talk) 06:20, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Don't worry, Buster7... I saved you a piece! lol --Rosiestep (talk)
I may have spooned the icing off though. I could eat my weight in icing and be sick for a week. The last time I was in town I tried a bear claw. First time I had anything like that. I mostly bake fruit pies. --ARoseWolf 17:24, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
That's ok, ARoseWolf. There was plenty of icing! (lol) I don't commonly eat cake myself, but on days like this, I make the exception. Also, love fruit pies! Any in particular that you prefer? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:45, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Blueberry, strawberry, blackberry and cherry. I usually make designs with the crust on top. Sometimes it's a woven design and other times I make floral designs. We have few neighbors but those that we do have are well supplied with fruit pies throughout the year. lol --ARoseWolf 19:02, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, they all sound yummy. I'm not good with top crusts, other than the standard woven one. A fall favorite of mine is making pecan pie, "topless". --Rosiestep (talk) 21:29, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
I've had pecan pie, when we took a trip to New Orleans all way to the Florida Keys. That's been ages ago. It was also "topless". I just love trying new designs with the crust. And if it fails it's still good pie. lol --ARoseWolf 11:51, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Happy Holidays

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. The editor retention project was created back in July of 2012 and is still considered active. From the look of your user page I know you must be busy but the lights are on and the rent is paid for the foreseeable future. Stop by for a chat. Start a thread. Nominate a fellow editor to be Editor of the Week. Maybe send the cat! It was a good idea then and it's still a good idea. ―Buster7
Thanks, Buster7. Wishing you a happy and peaceful holiday season, too. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:55, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Federación de Mujeres Cubanas and Federation of Cuban Women are the same thing. Both had the misinformation that it was founded by Fidel Castro and Vilma Espín. As you'll note on the 2nd one, I corrected the information, which is how I then ran into the other article. It was founded by a group of women in 1948, Castro had nothing to do with it. I think they need to be merged and obviously the history needs to be correct. I only put 2 sources there, but I have a ton of sources that confirm the 1948 date. Can you help with that? I was just about to sign off for the night when I discovered the issue, so I'll check back tomorrow. SusunW (talk) 23:28, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

SusunW, I agree, and happy to help with this. Working on it now. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:05, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
SusunW, the merge is complete. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:09, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
SusunW, a friendly FYI that I mentioned you and these 2 articles here. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi Rosiestep, there was an error message saying that the named reference ":0" was defined multiple times with different content, so I renamed one of the references, which seems to have fixed the problem. TSventon (talk) 00:04, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Nice, TSventon; thanks! I don't know if the students working on the article would know how to fix that so I'm sure they are appreciative. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:32, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
I think you caused the problem by copying reference ":0" from the new article into the old article, which had a different reference ":0", so I wanted to let you know it is a potential issue in future mergers. It is only a small error message and easy to miss. TSventon (talk) 00:43, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Aha! Now I understand better. Thanks again, TSventon. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:53, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for flagging this to me @Rosiestep. I want to chime in here to see what you all think.
The duplicate content was primarily unsourced and it shouldn't have been moved from draftspace without addressing the unsourced content (this was before it was identified as a dup).
Sincerely speaking, these were not improvements to the article quality, especially bc of all the unsourced content and the replacement of well sourced content with poorly sourced content. I am going to revert the article to before the merge, and write to the student about their options moving forward, if they want to add content. I know you all worked on this article so I want to loop you in @SusunW, @TSventon. Any hesitations for the revert? Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:01, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Brianda (Wiki Ed), whatever you think best is honestly fine with me. The redirect definitely needs to remain. I am hip deep in another article and ran across this in the course of writing it, so I don't have time or the wherewithal at present to fix the article. SusunW (talk) 21:10, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
No objection from me either. TSventon (talk) 21:22, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks yall! And if you come across student editor work that you don't want to address or don't have time for, feel free to ping me or User:Ian (Wiki Ed). Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 22:19, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Women in Red with a career in comics

Hi Rosiestep,

I'm glad to see you selected and translated several articles I wrote about women in red with a career in comics. I work carefully to create new pages & biographies on this topic. Thank you for your translations, I'm delighted when I see them.:)

I sometimes review magazines and specialized websites to detect new European female comics creators and add them to my personal "women in red in the comics creation" list. There are also a few articles about comic books made by / about women. Maybe you'd like to see more articles: fr:Utilisatrice:Bédévore/Articles#Sur la bande dessinée; it includes fr:Balance ta bulle (the anthology was originally published in English as Drawing Power).

Hi, Bédévore, and thanks for noticing that I've translated several articles about women with a career in comics. I didn't realize how many had been originally created by you on FR-WP. Bravo! That is fantastic work on your part! Commonly, when I do translations (mostly from FR-WP and ES-WP), I seek out well-referenced articles that will meet EN-WP's WP:N and WP:RS requirements, and, hopefully, there's a photo. Any suggestions for which women's biographies (comics or otherwise) I should consider translating next are welcome! Also, acknowledging that my translation efforts are imperfect, subsequent edits by you or others are, of course, welcome! --Rosiestep (talk) 19:20, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind answer Rosiestep.:) Not sure who I could suggest because all comics creators I wrote about meet notability guidelines on fr-wp but they may be unknown in the English-speaking world, even those who received cultural awards/accolades in Europe.
At least, there's a page on en-wp about the successful series of books The Wolf in Underpants whose illustrator is fr:Mayana Itoïz (the original idea of the character is hers).
Not sure if English readers heard of fr:La Différence invisible, made by Julie Dachez and fr:Mademoiselle Caroline (she has a quite a list of published books & reviews).
Recently I found documentation about Spanish-speaking creators fr:Teresa Valero - fr:Sara Soler Ester - fr:Sole Otero
There are some Canadian creators as well, esp. from Québec (you made Samantha Leriche-Gionet & Yvette Lapointe): fr:Stéphanie Leduc - fr:Fiona Smyth - fr:Catherine Lepage - fr:Mélodie Vachon Boucher - fr:Estelle Bachelard - fr:Anne Villeneuve - fr:Mélanie Leclerc - fr:Karine Gottot
There are also pages that describe women illustrators such as fr:Francesca Sanna - fr:Catherine Beaunez - fr:Aurélie Guillerey - fr:Maud Legrand - fr:Anja Klauss- fr:Sylvie Baussier... Actually it's very easy to find women illustrators with a significant career in kid's books, every time I read reviews, I gather new names; prob is, I'm not interested in books for kids.
I also wrote on a few women who popularize sciences (such as Léa Bello, fr:Éloïse Wagner and fr:MélanieDeaf) and promote feminism on YouTube (fr:Le Meufisme), not sure that's within your scope.
Best regards, - Bédévore [knock knock] 20:44, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Bédévore, for your quick response and for all that you do. I want to make sure you know how much I appreciate your work.
I will certainly review these names as consideration for translation to EN-WP. I have a few hundred page stalkers, and some of them might do so, too. (ping ping to my polyglot pagestalkers) --Rosiestep (talk) 21:01, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

Seasons Greetings!

Thanks so much, Dr. Blofeld. Love the cat. Happy holidays to you, too, and looking forward to continuing to work with you in the next year! --Rosiestep (talk) 19:43, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Happy Holiday's

From the time I was a child we didn't celebrate very many holiday's ourselves. As we got older my siblings and I more or less pressured my parents into celebrating certain holidays or their traditions. I remember being a late teen before we ever put up our first tree for Christmas time. Of course my grandmother introduced us to many Jewish holidays and I experienced others in my travels and living abroad for the time I did. We didn't even celebrate birthday's often. When we did celebrate them it was for specific years, like when I became a teen or on my sixteenth birthday. They were very careful about pushing social or religious beliefs on us and gave us room to explore who we are while they stood as a support for us and as a resource of experience when we sought guidance. The one thing they did very well was instilling in us a common respect for others and a sense of cherishing important moments when they happen and the ones we are fortunate enough to call friend. So when I say I cherish you and your impact on my life, know that the full weight of my life essence and what makes me who I am is behind each and every letter. May you be safe this holiday season and blessed in the new year, my cherished friend. --ARoseWolf 14:32, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

matzah
Žito
sheepherder's bread
baklava
ARoseWolf, My mom would put up the Christmas tree after Dec 5, my birthday. She didn't want me to feel cheated. The tree didn't come down until after Jan 7. We were always the last in the neighborhood to put the tree out for trash pick-up. We didn't celebrate Jewish holidays in a typical way, but mom would make special foods on certain days, without going into much discussion as to the significance. When I see matzah packages at the grocery store, I always think of mom, though these days, my cousin, a rabbi, mails matzah to me. Similar to what you described, my parents shared information and various times and in various ways, but wanted us to make our own decisions regarding religion. The only person who spoke about religion in my childhood home was my paternal grandmother, who lived with us. She taught my brothers and me the customs that went along with being Serbian Orthodox. Yesterday, Dec 19, was my family's slava (Sveti Nikola). In my childhood home, this always included Žito and kolac and baklava.
Thank you for your kind words, my dear friend. I cherish you like no other. We are somehow connected in a way that defies description. I am comfortable with that... knowing of your presence in my life is enough. I am aware that soon, there will be a period of quiet in your part of the world. Know that I continue to hold you close and will smile broadly when you resurface in springtime. Take good care of yourself, and happy holidays, Asareel! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, grandmothers have a certain influence over us that even parents may not. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I should like to converse more in email with you sometime. Funny you should mention my quiet time. I was just formulating my general message I post to my talk page each year at this time. We are definitely connected. --ARoseWolf 16:05, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
ARoseWolf, Yes! Email me anytime. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:19, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Article on Ada Cole

Hi Rosie. Would you be kind enough to move User:Balance person/Ada Cole to Ada Cole in mainspace. I cannot do so myself as Ada Cole is a redirect. Alternatively you could just delete the current Ada Cole and I can move it myself. Please ping me on this as I can then go in and tidy the article up once it's in mainspace.--Ipigott (talk) 13:22, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Ipigott. Done; deleted Ada Cole. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:34, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

Woody Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador does not exist; Woody Point is a municipality that is in Bonne Bay, which is where I think the confusion stems from. See also Woody Point, Newfoundland and Labrador

Notice

The article Buena Vista, Nevada County, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Reference 1 is insufficient for notability, reference 2 is unreliable, reference 3 is just GNIS repackaged, and reference 4 is a trivial confirmation that there was once a train station by this name. Rail stations are subject to WP:GNG, which is failed completely as there is no coverage of this place, a "Buena Vista Ranch" is mentioned in Lardner and Brock's history of Nevada County, but not clear if that's referring to this place. Without evidence this was a settlement, we don't have enough for an article. Satellite view of coordinates shows a rural farm.

The article Eagle Bird, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. Was a mine, not a community: [1]. Mines are subject to WP:GNG which is failed in this case, as the linked article is routine primary reporting; no secondary coverage found. Not mentioned in history of Nevada County; coordinates geolocate to empty forest.

Notice

The article Hacketville, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location; sources cited do not establish notability (1 is an unreliable GNIS regurgitator; 2 is a trivial passing mention). All mentions of this place that I can find refer to Hacketville, Wilsonville, and Spenceville together and say only that they existed in 1865-66 (see e.g. [2] and [3]). These are trivial passing mentions; nothing else could be found. A town that existed for only one year is not likely to be notable, and unless more information about these places is found, there isn't enough to be said to have an article.

Notice

The article La Barr Meadows, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. Only trivial passing mentions could be found in press; no mention at all in Lardner and Brock's history of Nevada County. All of the mentions that were found in local press were either to La Barr Meadows Road or to a La Barr Meadows dance hall, strongly suggesting this was never a community. Fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

The article Langs, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. Not a single mention found in Nevada County newspapers nor in Lardner and Brock's history of Nevada County, suggesting this was never a notable place. GNIS does not confer notability. Current satellite photo shows a forest service road along the river, no other human structures. Completely fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

The article Lowell Hill, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location; the sources cited are all unreliable. This place existed, as several mentions can be found in local papers, but they're all passing, referring to Lowell Hill as a "district" (i.e. mining or school district) rather than a community. The closest thing to significant coverage I can find is [4], which says the Lowell Hill precinct had 11 voters in the 1922 election. Satellite view shows empty forest. Without more information, we don't have enough for an article; fails WP:GNG and WP:GEOLAND.

The article Sunset View, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, possibly nonexistent settlement. No mentions could be found in the Nevada County press, and no mentions were found in two histories of Nevada County that were examined. Without any evidence that this was an actual place it fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG; the GNIS is not a reliable source and does not count for notability. Reference 2 is just a repackaged GNIS, and references 3 and 4 are questionable.
