Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Official sources for Indian Super League from now on.

Hey, as a regular editor of not just articles pertaining to the Indian Super League but also Indian football as a whole I decided to send you this message. Recently, I have noticed that many sources which, in the past, we called reliable are now a bit off in terms of their reporting. For example, the Times of India reported that Robert Pires and Freddy Ljungberg had signed for both FC Goa and Mumbai City respectively, however, that very same paper, reported that Anelka is in negotiations with Mumbai City. This has lead to days of anons added Pires, Ljungberg, and Anelka as marquee players for these teams on ISL pages, despite the conflicting reports. Meanwhile, Sky Sports, had an article about Peter Reid joining Mumbai City but instead said he signed for Mumbai FC.

This is not the type of reporting I expect to see done and it is because of this that I would like to see us only use official sources. These sources would include the official website of the Indian Super League, the official facebook page (with link), and any of the verified Indian Super League facebook or twitter accounts. So, for example, the Times of India reported that Marco Materazzi had signed as head coach of Chennai but instead of adding Marco like we would with say an TOI article on the I-League we will instead wait till the news is officially verified by the league or team. It is these methods we must use to protect wikipedia's goal in terms of accuracy. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 04:01, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Hello Royroydeb and thanks for signing for the inaugural GA Cup. However, you ought to create your submission and add it here. Sincerely, what made you think this guy is a FULLY-PRO footballer? MYS77 05:32, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

And can you please create pages with a better level of English. Your Spanish creations were not that good, mate. Thanks, MYS77 05:41, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
Well, it's better having the FULL NAME instead of using a short name! VIALE has a brother, LUCAS VIALE, whilst a French forward, Julien Viale, also exists! THREE Viale who are FOOTBALLERS! Don't you think this is too much? I'll move this page to Juan Manuel Viale. MYS77 14:11, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
And also, please do not use "footballer playing...". It is disjointed. Use "footballer WHO PLAYS..." Cheers, MYS77 14:45, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
Could you make sure you take this advice on board? I've improved the language of the Pol García, it might be of benefit to take a look. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 19:21, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

André Martins

1. neither I nor the reader should be expected to trawl through external links to verify the content of the article. That's what references are for;

2. you left the article saying he had 11 appearances for Sintrense: he hasn't;

3. the name of the as-of date infobox parameter is |club-update=; just because |pcupdate= still works now, it won't forever, and we should use the current name;

4. MOS:BLPLEAD, the section of Wikipedia's Manual of Style that deals with the opening of an article, says at bullet-point 5 that the opening paragraph should include why the player is notable;

5. if we're talking creating decent small articles, as opposed to doing it in a sloppy manner, I suggest you go back to the André Martins page and add some references, fix the Soccerway template call so it just includes the name and not the disambiguation bracket as well, and remove the "simply known as" bit: if the player were David Richard John Beckham, you wouldn't add simply known as David Beckham, nor do we for Portuguese players using their first name and surname.

You've been here long enough to have seen short footballer biographies created by others, and you're intelligent enough to be able to tell that some of what they do is better than some of what you do. Please take note of this, and take a bit more time over your work. I see the administrator Mattythewhite has mentioned something similar above. You really would do well to listen. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 07:42, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

GA Cup - September 2014 Newsletter

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - September 2014

Welcome to the GA Cup! In less than 72 hours, the competition will begin! Before you all start reviewing nominations we want to make sure you understand the following:

  • This is a friendly competition so we don't want any cheating/breaking of the rules. However, if you do believe someone is going against the rules, notify the judges. All the rules are listed here.
  • If you are a new editor or new to reviewing Good article nominations, it is imperative that you read the 4 essays/guides listed under FAQ #4. If you do not understand something, ask a judge for clarification ASAP!
  • The competition is not entirely about who can review the most nominations. Per the "Scoring" page, there is different criteria in which you can earn more points. Theoretically, you could review 10 nominations and have 80 points but another user could have reviewed 5 nominations and have 100 points. Yes, we want you to review as many nominations as you can as this will greatly increase the number of points you earn, but you must also keep in mind that every single review will be looked over by a judge. If we find that you are "rubber-stamping" (in other words, the review is not complete but you still passed/failed the article) you may be disqualified without warning.

Also, rather than creating a long list on what to remember, make sure you have read the "Scoring", "Submissions", and "FAQ" pages.

Now for the one question that we guarantee you have: how on earth will the rounds work???

Yes, we never actually had a solid platform regarding how the rounds would work because we had no idea how many people would sign-up. Even though the competition is about to begin, because sign-ups are still open, it is impossible to say exactly how each round will work. As of now, we can confirm that Round 1 will have everyone compete in one big pool. Depending on the final number of participants after sign-ups close, a to-be-determined number of participants will move on (highest scorers will move on) to Round 2. We guarantee that the top 15 will move on, so make sure you aim for those top positions! Moving on to Round 2, participants will be split into pools of even numbers (for example, every pool will have 6 participants). The pools will be determined by a computer program that places participants by random. More details regarding Round 2 will be sent out at the end of Round 1.

It is important to note that the GA Cup will run on UTC time, so make sure you know what time that is for where you live! On that note, the GA Cup will start on October 1 at 0:00:01 UTC; Round 1 will end on October 29 at 23:59:59 UTC; Round 2 will commence on November 1 at 0:00:01 UTC. All reviews must be started after or on the start time of the round. If you qualify for Round 2 but do not complete a review before the end of Round 1, the review can be carried over to Round 2; however that review will not count for Round 1. Prior to the start of the the second round, participants who qualify to move on will be notified.

Finally, if you know anyone else that might be interesting in participating, let them know! Sign-ups close on October 15 so there is still plenty of time to join in on the action!

If you have any further questions, contact one of the judges or leave a message here.

On October 16 or 17, 2014, check the Pools page as we will post the exact number of participants that will move on to the next round. Because this number will be determined past the halfway mark of Round 1, we encourage you to aim to be in the top 15 as the top 15 at the end of the round are guaranteed to move on.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Shahriyar Aliyev, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. GA Cup -Round 1 Newsletter

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 1

As we move into the middle of Round 1, we wanted to report some of the lessons we've learned thus far, as well as announce a major rule change going into Round 2, which begins November 1. Remember, sign-ups for this year's Cup ends on September 15.

Thus far, we're very happy with the results of the competition. One of our major goals, reducing the long backlog at GAN, is well on the way to being accomplished, mostly due to the enthusiastic efforts of Jonas Vinther, who has earned over 250 points. Over 80 reviews have been made thus far. Thank you all for your efforts and for your part in making the GA Cup a success.

However, this is the inaugural year of the GA Cup, so there have been some unforeseen circumstances that have come up. One has been a glaring inadequacy with the rules, which the judges feel makes the competition unfair. As a result, there will be a major change in the rules, starting at the beginning of Round 2:

  • Your review must provide feedback/suggestions for improvement, and then you must wait until the nominator has responded and all issues/suggestions have been resolved before you can pass the article. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification.

What this means is that you must provide some feedback to the article's nominator, and must wait for him or her to respond before passing the article. If the nominator has not responded in the standard 7 days, you can fail the article. We're instituting this rule change to prevent the possibility of competitors passing articles for the sake of passing articles (or failing them) and to gain more points. We believe that the change will make it more fair to all competitors in the GA Cup.

Also, in case you haven't noticed, we increased the "guarantee" for Round 2 to 25 participants. The exact number will be decided in the near future.

We thank your for your participation, and for your flexibility and understanding as we learn what works and what doesn't work in this competition.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

GA Cup Newsletter Correction

Hi everyone,

It was brought to the attention of the judges that there was an error in the newsletter sent out earlier today.

Sign-ups for the GA Cup will close on October 15, 2014, not September 15, 2014 (as mentioned in the newsletter).

Sorry for any confusion.

GA Cup - Round 1 Newsletter #2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 1

Hello GA Cup competitors!

The judges have learned a great deal in this first part of the competition, and we appreciate your patience with us as we've figured out what works and what doesn't work. As we reported in our last newsletter, an inadequacy in the scoring system has been illuminated in the past 15 days, which has resulted in a major change in the rules. It has also resulted in one withdrawal.

To ensure fairness, we've decided to further increase the number of participants moving onto Round 2. Everyone who has reviewed at least one article will automatically be moved forward, and will be placed in pools. You have until October 29 to take advantage of this opportunity. It is our hope that this will make up for the unforeseen glitch in our scoring system.

Best of wishes to all of you as you continue to help improve articles and make Wikipedia a better place.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

GA Cup - Round 2

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup - Round 2

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

Wednesday saw the end of Round 1. Jaguar took out Round 1 with an amazing score of 238. In a tight race for second, Peacemaker67 and Ritchie333 finished second and third with 152 and 141 points, respectively.

Two users have scored the maximum five bonus points for article length (60,000 characters+). Anotherclown reviewed Spanish conquest of Yucatán (77,350 characters) and MrWooHoo reviewed Communist Party of China (76,740 characters). The longest review was by Bilorv who reviewed Caldas da Rainha. The review was approximately 22,400 characters which earned s/he two bonus points (20, 000 - 29, 999 characters).

In Round 1, 117 reviews were completed, making the first round of the GA Cup a success! A total of 86 articles were removed from the backlog during the month of October! We hope to see all remaining users fighting it out in Round 2 so we can lower the backlog as much as possible.

To qualify for the second round, one completed review was needed, which 28 users accomplished. Participants have been randomly put into 7 pools of 4; the top 2 in each pool will move onto Round 3. There will also be one wildcard. This means that the participant who comes in 15th place (all pools combined) will also move on. Round 2 will start on November 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on November 29 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 2 and the pools can be found here

Also, remember that a major rule change will go into affect starting on November 1, which marks the beginning of Round Two. Round 1 displayed a weakness in the rules, which we are correcting with this new rule. We believe that this change will make the competition more inherently fair. The new rule is: Your review must provide feedback/suggestions for improvement, and then you must wait until the nominator has responded and all issues/suggestions have been resolved before you can pass the article. Failure to follow this rule will result in disqualification. The judges will strictly enforce this new rule.

--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:04, 31 October 2014 (UTC) Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Stijn Houben a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. czar  17:10, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Ben Litfin

The article Ben Litfin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

hasn't played a professional senior game. fails WP:NSPORTS & WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stub attack

Hey mate, I see all the articles for players you are creating and it is cool and all but honestly at this point in your wiki career you should probably add more to these articles instead of leaving them as just stubs and stuff. Like, you have the template on my page for example which has a table and everything... you need to make the next step and really put some time into these articles because remember, it is not just WP:NFOOTY these players need to pass but also WP:GNG and that means more than just one sentence. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 22:46, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Re: Stub attack (Second notice)

Mate, come on, seriously now? Christos Wheeler, Andrea Palazzi, Fábio Virginio de Lima... I mean, creating because you want to or because you might get the next big guy is cool, hell, I did the same with many MLS guys and players like Kristoffer Olsson but please, try to add more to these articles or eventually they might be deleted for failing to pass WP:GNG... that is still a major player here. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:25, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

True man... btw ArsenalFan, you're a big man because you can admit you did exactly the same.. You didn't really add anything on Olsson's page... so i posted "please add at least something" haha. I still rememeber that one. Now Royroydeb is doing the same.. come on mate, make yourself useful here. We won't fix your mess, it's your article. Poor Andrea Palazzi and more. Cheers Eden10Hazard (talk) 23:27, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

@ArsenalFan700: @Eden10Hazard: @Royroydeb: Sorry for "reviving" it now, but seeing (and knowing) Hazard and RRD's contributions here I don't think they'll improve what they currently do, ArsenalFan. Both create pages very quickly just to get the credit (and hoping maybe someday the guy will become a world class player). I'll ask you both to improve your storyline (which is very poor and disjointed). However, I'll give Hazard some "benefit of the doubt", because he once explained me how his contributions work.
Ah, and Hazard and RRD, please do me a favor: when you BOTH create ANY Spanish player, please, in the edit summary, include this: [[User:MYS77|MYS77]] just to notice me about the guy and I'll improve the page (as I did with thousands and thousands of articles you both created). Cheers, happy weekend. MYS77 17:57, 21 November 2014 (UTC)

The article Taylor McKenzie (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Bikeroo (talk) 09:00, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
