Welcome[edit]

Hello, Salithak1, and welcome to Wikipedia!

Thank you for your contributions to this free encyclopedia. If you decide that you need help, check out Getting Help below, ask me on my talk page, or place {{Help me}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Please remember to sign your name on talk pages by clicking or or by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. E-mail[edit]

I noticed that you sent me an e-mail asking for my help. I'd be glad to help you out. Firstly, you have to change your signature as it looks exactly same as mine. Otherwise, another editor might ask you to do so to avoid confusion. Do no wait until someone else notices it. You don't have to change the font-family, just change its font-color; that will do it. Secondly, consider removing those top-icons from your userpage. You clearly don't have those user rights yet. I'm not going to mark your userpage as patrolled due to the reason that you have copied those topicons directly from my userpage. I will do it right after you change your signature and remove those top-icons. And furthermore, I have provided some links above that I think would be useful to you. Those links have the basics you need to know about Wikipedia. If you have further questions, ask them on Wikipedia:Teahouse or my talk page. Cheers and happy editing!.--Chamith (talk) 23:37, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

March 2015[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia! Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent uploads, such as the file you uploaded at Sir John Kothalawala College, did not appear to be constructive and has been or soon will be deleted. Please read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Chamith (talk) 17:21, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Sir John Kothalawala College. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Please don't violate Wikipedia policies. And don't write sentences like "Our school", "This school". Wikipedia is not an essay showcase. And be neutral. Do not praise your school too much. Wikipedia only accepts factual and verifiable information. Continuing to violate Wikipedia policies might lead you to a topic ban from an administrator. If you need any help ask on my talk page or Wikipedia:Teahouse. Cheers! August 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello! Thank you for your recent contributions to St. Joseph's College, Anuradhapura. I did have one note for you. I am working on a maintenance project to clean up Category:Pages using infoboxes with thumbnail images. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!! Regarding userboxes[edit]

Hi Salithak1, you can link a userbox (created by you) to your userpace by creating a subpage within your userspace and pasting the userbox code there. For example, let's say you want to title the userbox "SLIT Student" and link it to your userpace. Then you should create a new page at User:Salithak1/SLIT Student by clicking Create Source, paste the code and then click Save Page. After that you can always invoke the userbox by calling {{user:Salithak1/SLIT Student}}. Let me know if you run into any issues. Cheers! -- ChamithN (talk) 16:08, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Java Institute For Advanced Technology has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unable to find anything encyclopedic about it. Non-notable institute related to computer studies.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi Salithak1, I'm considering nominating the article in question for WP:XFD as it apparently doesn't meet either WP:GNG or WP:NACADEMIC criteria. And, as you can see, the current state of the article is abominable. But, before I proceed, I wanted to know if you plan on improving the article. Seeing that you're keeping a close watch on the article, I have a feeling that you know a lot more about the subject than I do. So, it'd save us both a lot of hassle if you were to bring the article up to WP:GNG standards. -- ChamithN (talk) 22:11, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka[edit]

Dear Salithak1,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!

ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Salithak1. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi![edit]

Hi from Colombo.Thank you for contributing school pages of Sri Lanka.

Lankabot (talk) 20:31, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ibbagamuwa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.ibbagamuwa.ds.gov.lk/index.php?Itemid=63&id=4&lang=en&option=com_content&view=article. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eheliyagoda moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Eheliyagoda, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your page to draft space (with a prefix of Draft: before the article title) where you can work on it with minimal disruption. When you feel that it meets our notability and neutrality requirements, and is thus ready for mainspace, please submit it using the Articles for Creation template on the page. Image source problem with File:Sir john logo new.png[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Sir john logo new.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:51, 3 April 2019 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
