First off, the area you are referring to is not in fact white. It really does not assist communication when you call something "white" when in actual fact it is not "white". Second, the problem you pointed out is actually a bug with the rendering software, not a problem with my SVG code, as seen by the fact that it does not appear in the non-thumbnailed version of the image (which is what I was looking at). First of all, make an account and don't leave unsigned comments. Second of all, what you are saying is in no way relevant to the topic at hand. The Greek authorities have been calling the region 'Macedonia' since 1912, regardless of if you want to accept that fact or not. Prosecution against Macedonians and other speakers of slavic languages in Greek Macedonia is completely irrelevant with the fact that it was been called 'Macedonia' since the time it was incorporated. For the record, the Ministry for Macedonia and Thrace was founded under the name 'General Administration for Macedonia' in 1912. --Philly boy92 (talk) 23:53, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

I hardly represent the Greek lobby; I am not in favor of the "Macedonia is Greek" position, but nor am i a supporter of the "Macedonia to the Macedonians" position :) Simply because you disagree with it doesnt mean it must be your way :) The Greek maps call it 'Macedonia' and as such this is what we will use on the Macedonia (Greece) article, unless you have some Greek sources to show us that prove the contrary :) If I am not mistaken you said that it was not officially called 'Macedonia' before the late 80s - I added a map on the article that proves otherwise. EON emblem

Hello! You are right in so far as the emblem was widely used: EON was virtually the only mass organization of the regime, and Metaxas liked to be seen with "his" youth. The images you present are from addresses to EON assemblies, so naturally the EON emblem would be used. It was certainly a political symbol (and the labrys is hence associated with the Greek far right), but it never replaced the Kingdom's CoA or come to enjoy similar status, unlike the Nazi Party Eagle which became the national emblem or the Italian royal CoA which was altered to include the fasces. Your edit to the Airports in Greece template today (adding a ref) has cause the 70 or so pages it's transcluded to to start throwing reference errors because the template appears below the template:reflist on the pages. Names of Thessaloniki

Hi,

you just reverted me on names of Thessaloniki. I could bring this to the article talk page, but I thought it might be easier to clarify my intent directly with you.

In 2007 a "name" section was created to pull non-Greek names from the opening lines of the article. It seemed at the time the least-bad option, as there was organized edit-warring against having "Selanik" or "Solun" at the top. (From that time I'll take credit, or discredit, if you prefer, for pretty much rewriting the lede into its current form). In any case, an unhappy compromise was being forced by the entrenched bloc to struggle for the name Solun. Historically, Bulgarian and the local Macedonian Slav language had been used in and around Salonika. Edit warring was particularly fierce to keep "Macedonian Slav" out of the article. "South Slavic" languages was, I believe, my proposal, to get at least indirect reference to them back in. It was the best that was doable at the time, but it was wrong. There is no historic significance to SBH or any other South Slav language in Salonika. In the current version, "South Slav" is a euphemism for Bulgarian and Macedonian Slav. I am on my phone at the moment so I'll just cut to the chase. My objection was to include just Macedonian and Bulgarian, because Solun is used in almost all South Slavic Languages, not just the two. Hellenic Parliament

Hello. I was wondering whether you could help make a better Athens flag. This one

is not at all the right colour, nor the emblem is right. I suppose you've seen a flag of Athens before, but this photo of the municipal gallery

thess population

you say "NO OTHER country but Greece publishes censuses on the population of Thessaloniki" yet on the table below the 2004 results are from Eurostat and show an increased population for the municipality. Wont it be relevant to say that the last two censuses that showed a decline in population were the Greek ones? ...because a latest census (that is non-Greek) shows an increase in population instead for the municipality. although it is data, for anyone reading the article they usualy pick it up as a "census". It is true that Piraeus belongs in the greater urban area of Athens, being the historic seaport of Athens. However, from an administrative point of view, Piraeus is not included in the Athens metropolitan area. Piraeus has its own (independent from Athens) municipality (http://www.piraeus.gov.gr/); Piraeus used to be for almost 160 years (up to December 2010, when prefectures were abolished in Greece) the capital of Piraeus Prefecture, which included the islands of the Saronic Gulf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saronic_Gulf) as well as the islans of Kythera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kythera) and Antikythera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera); and, most importantly, Piraeus is nowadays the capital of the Peripheral Unit of Piraeus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_units_of_Greece ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheries_of_Greece). Furthermore, Piraeus has its own electoral districts: i) the “Piraeus first electoral district” (which includes the municipality of Piraeus), and ii) the “Piraeus second electoral district” (which includes Piraeus’ suburbs, such as Keratsini, Perama, Drapetsona, Nikaia etc). Therefore, the citizens of Piraeus elect their own MPs and they are represented in the Greek Parliament by the MPs elected in Piraeus and not by those elected in Athens.

Administratively, Piraeus is totally independent from Athens! It is a different municipality, belonging in a different peripheral unit, having its own electoral districts!

According to the official data available by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (http://www.statistics.gr/) and the Municipality of Piraeus (http://www.piraeus.gov.gr/) the wider area of Piraeus includes the homonymous municipality and six more municipalities-suburbs with a total population of 466.065 and an extent of 50.4 square metres.

I would like to underline the fact that in the table depicting the largest Greek cities the population of Athens (3,165,823) does not include the population of Piraeus, simply because Piraeus is not a part of Athens!

It goes without saying that in Greece a municipality does not necessarily form a distinct city or town. Your example with Kalamaria in Thessaloniki’s metropolitan area is a nice example. I could also cite many other examples: for instance, the municipality of Perama belongs to the Piraeus’ metropolitan area, or the municipality of Galatsi belongs to the Athens’ metropolitan area. We agree on that point…

But, Piraeus is not just a municipality distinct from Athens, Piraeus (unlike Kalamaria, Perama, or Galatsi) is the capital of a peripheral unit (“periferiaki enotita” in Greek), which is called “Piraeus Peripheral Unit”.

Piraeus was for about 160 years [i.e. up to December 2010, when a new law, called the “Kallikratis” law, reformed the administrative division of Greece by abolishing prefectures and establishing peripheries] the capital of a Prefecture, which was called “Piraeus Prefecture”. [Kalamaria, Perama or Galatsi have never been capitals of a Prefecture]

Piraeus elects its own Members of Parliament [Kalamaria doesn’t] and it is divided into 2 electoral districts: i) “Alfa Pireos kai Nison” (in Greek), ii) “Vita Pireos kai Nison” (in Greek). In Greece an electoral district corresponds to the borders of a former Prefecture!

By all means, from an administrative point of view, Piraeus doesn’t belong to Athens (it belongs to the larger Periphery of Attica, but that’s irrelevant with the topic of our discussion). In all official documents issued by the Greek authorities, Piraeus is counted as a city distinct from Athens.

Again, you are not contradicting any of my arguments. I am sorry, but the fact is that your opinion is flawed and not based on any official data.

I will say it for a third time: Piraeus is NOT a subdivision of Athens. Piraeus is part of the Periphery of Attica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attica_Periphery) as it is Athens (Athens is the capital of the Periphery of Attica), as it is Hydra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydra_island), as it is Kythera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kythera), etc. If we adhere to your rationale, then since Hydra belongs to the Periphery of Attica, then it should be considered a suburb of Athens or a part of Athens’ metropolitan area. This doesn’t make any sense.

Piraeus is administratively independent from Athens, it is a different city, and the only affinity between Athens and Piraeus is the fact that both of them belong to the Periphery of Attica, to the decentralized Region of Attica (http://www.apdattikis.gov.gr/), to the nation-state of Greece, to the European Union, to the European Continent, and to Planet Earth. If you read wikipedia’s entry on Athens, you will find out that “The Attica Periphery itself is split into eight peripheral units, out of which four form the Greater Athens area [i.e. North Athens, West Athens, Central Athens, South Athens]”.

According to the same wikipedia’s entry, “the population of Athens Urban Area is 3,165,823 people, […] the population of the Athens metropolitan area is 3,761,810 people”.

Wikipedia makes a clear distinction between the “Athens urban area” and the “Athens metropolitan area” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens).

The passage you are quoting from the website of the Municipality of Piraeus is misleading.

First of all, this info is not valid any more after the Kallikratis reform.

These data are outdated and make reference to municipalities which do not exist anymore (such as the municipalities of Drapetsona or Agios Ioannis Rentis).

The Greek term “πολεοδομικό συγκρότημα” is an urban planning term and in modern Greek legal and administrative texts it is used in a different meaning and context than the one you have understood. I dont understand how you think they are copyright violations!! Source is attached and the sites of were they come from make no claim to any copyright attached to them. They are circulated freely in puclic domain. Especialy images from aggelioforos mention they make all their photos freely available, the same goes for public government websites were the park map came from. And what do you mean with Arata Isoszaki he didnt take the photo the photo was taken by the source that was mentioned and made the picture freely available. Thessaloniki bombings

I don't know what exactly was POV pushing about my post. The Thessaloniki bombings of 1903 are a very important part of the city's history. Are you suggesting that it should not be included simply because the "IMRO" is mentioned? I have seen some nationalist users engage is such activity before, but I don't think you're one of them. Anyway, you can read more about the Thessaloniki bombings in "Salonica: A City of Ghosts" by Mark Mazower, there is large section on it. The goal of the bombers was to draw attention from the Great Powers of the time over Ottoman oppression in Macedonia. Apart from blowing up the bank (a significant landmark of the city today), and the French ship, the group also had plans to attack the post office, the city's power generating plant, and several cafes on the water front. Their actions were so significant that the Ottomans declared marshal law on the city and a curfew was introduced. So now your're telling me that this is not relevant to the city's history??? Dear Philly boy92, I see you are interested in the Greek Emblem. However, I am pretty sure that this emblem should be displayed as the correct one. Neither the ΦΕΚ nor the Greek passports do they indicate any circles around the emblem in its simplest form. I imagine you have taken your last design from presidency.gr but I would not trust them very much. Indeed, I think that the encircled emblem is used by the ministries in their seals. • Τα Greeklish χρησιμοποιήθηκαν καθώς δεν υπάρχει αντίστοιχος τίτλος στα Αγγλικά. Παρ'όλα αυτά βοήθησα βάζοντας έναν τίτλο ο οποίος παραπέμπει στον αντίστοιχο Ελληνικό.
• Η πηγή είναι αξιόπιστη όσο δε γίνεται. Δουλεύω στο δημιουργικό του Μακεδονία TV και απο εμάς βγαίνει όλο το υλικό. Στη διάθεσή σου για οποιοδήποτε τρόπο διασταύρωσης.
• Αν κάπου φάνηκε 'διαφημιστικό' το άρθρο, ελεύθερα να το διορθώσουμε απο κοινού μιας και η δικιά σου εμπειρία είναι μεγαλύτερη στον τρόπο σύνταξης. Παρ'όλα αυτά όμως διαφωνώ με τη ριζική αλλαγή του σε κείμενο που δεν συμφωνεί τουλάχιστο με την εταιρία που αναφέρεται.
• Είναι το original logo το οποίο αλλάχτηκε στις αρχές του 2014 και παίζει ήδη στο πρόγραμμα του Μακεδονία TV. Λόγω περιορισμού στο δυναμικό μας δεν έχει αλλαχτεί ακόμη στο website.

• Συμφωνώ απόλυτα με τις παρατηρήσεις για τα 'greeklish' καιθα διορθώσω το κείμενο όπως χρειάζεται.
• Το logo που επιμένεις να χρησιμοποιείς ειναι έτσι κι αλλιώς λάθος. Ούτε παραπέμπει στο προηγούμενο logo του σταθμού μας. Ακόμη και αυτό που έχει παραμείνει στο web είναι διαφορετικό απο αυτό που παρουσιάζεται στη σελίδα της Wikipedia (διαφορετικά gradient). Αποτελεί παραποίηση του πραγματικού logo. Πόσο μάλιστα του current logo. Αν έχεις σχέση με γραφιστική θα καταλάβεις τι εννοώ.
• Τα πνευματικά δικαιώματα του logo είναι προφανώς του δημιουργού και της εταιρίας που αντιπροσωπεύει.
• Οι εκφράσεις όπως επιτυχημένο κτλ. συμφωνώ οτι αποτελούν διαφήμιση και ορθώς έπρεπε να διορθωθούν. Αλλά διόρθωση και όχι ριζική αλλαγή σε παλιότερο κείμενο το οποίο πιο πολύ βασίζεται στη γεωγραφική θέση του καναλιού και όχι στο ίδιο το κανάλι

Aegean Airlines

Regarding the article for Aegean Airlines

Aegean Airlines' website is outdated: It does not include SX-DGN and SX-DGP in its fleet count, these planes fly for Aegean.

Same goes for the airline's destinations. The reason I cited Olympic Air's website is that it says the fly to 18 destinations (see Olympic Air destinations). So, for example, Lemnos may not be on Aegean's website list of destinations because it started less than a couple of months ago. (Further proof that the airline's website is outdated). 55 is the number of destinations served by Aegean Airlines as you can see here: Aegean Airlines destinations

I understand that you prefer the official website of the airline as a source but on this occasion the website is not well maintained.

I am not going to revert the article to its previous form myself to avoid editwarring, if you find my message convincing please do so yourself, otherwise we can discuss it :)

The domestic destinations not accounted for are 4: Cephalonia, Kavala, Lemnos, Samos.

The international destinations are 9: Tirana, Sofia, Strasbourg, Hanover, Bucharest, Belgrade, Stockholm, Manchester and one London airport (since 2 are served).

Rostov is accounted for although it was last served in 2012 and is therefore not included in our count in Wikipedia until it resumes in 2014.

43 + 4 domestic + 9 international - 1 (Rostov) = 55

I just noticed that one of the images in this collage, was deleted for being a copyright violation, because the Flickr user was not the actual copyright holder.
