ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Now that they have changed the whole format for editing (I do not like it Sam I am), I don't have the Wikidata gadget that used to allow me to input stuff in Wikidata from an article interface and I don't know enough about that platform to complete an entire entry. I made this but I have no clue how to add fields other than what I have added. This is her photolink and the best ref for dates is this one. If you have time/interest can you fix it? Thanks SusunW (talk) 21:54, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

I think I made at least some of the requested edits. I added some info in wikidata and her image. TJMSmith (talk) 22:31, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I wish I could have my gadget back. This new look may be lovely for readers, but for editors, not so much. SusunW (talk) 22:38, 7 February 2023 (UTC)

Antonello Bonci

Hello TJMSmith, I noticed you were the last user who checked for neutrality on the talkpage of Antonello Bonci. Since I am a semi-experienced editor, but with very little experience (or interest) dealing with COI-editing, I thought it best to contact you.

Earlier today I replied to a maintanance template question on Reddit about the Antonello Bonci article. Somebody who said he worked for Bonci and is a WP newbie, wanted to know how to get rid of the template. I advised him to the best of my abilities and also told him to contact you. To give you the full picture here is the chat we had on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/wikipedia/comments/1127n7h/maintanance_template_question/

I also looked at the edit history of the Bonci-page and after some digging noticed that user:EnoughBLS123 isnt the only 1 who only edited that page and tried to "sanitise" it. user:YVA123 has been doing the same thing. You might want to update the talkpage template to reflect that.

Anyway, I hope I can leave it in your capable hands.

Regards, Dutchy45 (talk) 00:46, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Rina Amiri

Hi - I have done some minor edits on Rina Amiri's page as I am familiar with her and her work, we work with groups that overlap. I see you've done a lot of amazing work on her page.

I have not edited in awhile, I had an account that was about fifteen years old but when I went to log into it today I could not remember the password and it's not linked to my email. So it looks from my account like I'm a newbie editor but I'm not quite.

I asked Rina for the links to her bios on the State Dept and Council on Foreign Relations sites and she sent them to me. You will see them in the citations if you want to use them as references. I have other info on her if you're interested. Mostly bios and nothing earthshaking. But I wanted to ask you two questions. One was from her.

The statement that she is the third cousin of the last king is not actually correct. It was evidently reported that way by Boston Globe; I can't access it as it's behind a paywall. But in Afghanistan like other village-based societies, the term cousin is used very loosely. In some villages everyone is "my cousin." Her family is from the same tribe but there's no direct lineage like a third cousin.

Is there a way to correct or remove this? I know it was published by a reputable source. But if it's not correct, does it then need to be published somewhere that it's not correct?

The other is based on my own experience in working with activists in Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, etc., where you and your family can become targets. You basically never speak about their family members, at all, and definitely would not publish anything about a family member that could be used to track them. Is there a way to discreetly remove her parents' occupations for her family's protection?

Thank you, and great work on your editing.
