The block was for having a disruptive username. To quote from WP:U, disruptive usernames do include "outright trolling…", which was pretty obvious, given their talk page edits. Also, they asked for a block! :) TNXMan 20:24, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, I was just about to add the sources. I started using Wikipedia today, and didn't understand how the link system works before you deleted my post... Please let the text back in and let me add the sources. (Do you really think I do promo work without reliable, independent sources?)

This is NOT a promotional purpose. I've written about the history behind the record and details around the release. As fast as I have sources, there should be no reason for not having this published. If this is the threshold for getting anything published here, then Wikipedia can't be called democratic.

Question regarding deletion

Hi there. I am trying to post an Article about our organization (American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists). The article was just deleted. This article does not promote the organization - it simply defines our Mission Statement.

I am just wondering what I need to do to properly submit this. There are many national organizations on wikipedia:

There are many organizations with articles on Wikipedia. These organizations have articles because they have shown why they are notable. Agilo for Scrum Page

Dear TNXMan, thanks for your message :-)

Since the very first beginning I tried to make all the entries in a proper way. Some guys helped me and I regularly update the links and information. Agilo is a young tool, therefor there are not sooo many official test, but a huge amount of downloaders are proving, that Scrum, and also the only open source tool Agilo, is getting more and more attention. One reason for that is also, that Agilo contains a help and guideline that supports people to get used to Scrum and to introduce it to the teams. Somehow is "taking them by the hand". I am in contact with some magazines to write independent test article to be able to insert more useful links. For the moment I can just ask you to have a look on google and you will find a lot of blog posts talking an evaluating the tool.

I would be really happy if you could tell me what is needed to make the page better and more valuable so its worth to be in Wikipedia.

Username policy

While the changes to the policy are definitely in the right direction, I can't help but feeling like we are not accomplishing much in terms of getting reports of obvious promotion off of UAA and into a better place. As long as it still looks like the best option in Twinkle is to report advertising to UAA, we'll probably have this problem. Maybe we could add a new checkbox in Twinkle's ARV->AIV section for "account is being used for promotional purposes"? Gigs (talk) 18:01, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

That may be good option. Is there a way to generate a default report for the COI board? I think the concern is that there are users whose edits we need to watch, but immediate action is not required. TNXMan 20:54, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I think that is one class of complaint, but there is at least as many that have already made clearly promotional edits. We should probably make it easy to report promotion to both COIN and AIV depending on the complexity and how obvious the promotion was. Clear cut and obvious to AIV and questionable to COIN. Deletion of Black & Tan Records page

Hello,

Firstly, I am new to Wikipedia, so please forgive me if I don't follow the correct procedures or etiquette -It's quite daunting to start.

I understand that you were party to the deletion of the Black & Tan Records page I created earlier today, and that it was deleted on the principle that the subject is not noteworthy.

In defence of the article, I would like to point out that this record label is as notable as several labels listed on the Blues page in the paragraph about blues music in the 1990s. I chose to write about this label as part of a project I'm planning about keeping the Blues alive as a genre and the influence of specialist labels, artists and podcasters. Black & Tan, is already refered to on other articles, and is of similar significance as Ruf records and Northern Blues whose pages I used to set the tone and content for this article.

I hope this is sufficient justification, but if not, I'd be grateful for further guidance.

CDMA Development Group (CDG)

Hi Tnxman307,

Earlier today I submitted a page for the CDMA Development Group (CDG), a non-profit industry consortium of member companies that have been instrumental in bring the CDMA wireless standard to be used around the world. The purpose of our page is to provide some of the history behind the development of CDMA technology, and the steps the CDG and its member companies have taken (and continue to take) to get the standard accepted and adopted by operators around the world. It's important history not found on other CDMA Wikipedia pages.

I've noticed that other industry group pages are posted, most notably the CTIA's Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CTIA_-_The_Wireless_Association). There is also one about 3GSM (Mobile World Congress) just from the trade show this year, which to me seems to be a flagrant advertisement for the annual conference.

I'm hoping you can provide some additional feedback as to what I need to do to make our submission seem less advertorial. We want our page to be a reference for people looking for information about CDMA and its history, as well as the companies that have shaped its development and adoption. Would a list of member companies help? Press write ups? More history in prose?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This type of argument is generally referred to as "What about article X?". I would support either cleaning up the article (and boy, does it need it) or a PROD tag. As it stands, the article is basically a channel guide and none of the sources listed are independent (they're either from the company itself or supported artists). You deleted my page - I have put a lot of research and effort into it. I don't understand how is it unambiguous advertising and promotion. I am not even sure how to recreate it as you have provided no feedback and reading the articles published about this topic is not helpful either (I did check and read them before). Is it advertising because I list the only companies able to do ZMET? I can delete those references, no problem, but I thought that this was part of the essential info as ZMET cannot be used by just anyone (it is patented). Speedy request

I placed the tag on the user talk because it was made by a (if not already banned, soon to be banned) user who's been using multiple IP addresses to continue to be disruptive on Wikipedia. The individual did use that IP but did not leave the message as the IP on that page but as another one. Review of revised "Still Water" page

Hi Tnxman,

I'm wondering if you had time to see the revisions I made, at your suggestion, to the Still Water page in my sandbox, as described in my post of 29 May. As mentioned in that post, I rewrote the entry using the {cite} syntax, explained that the projects mentioned in the original "Selected Press" section were Still Water projects, and added more potential external references to show notability.

I can understand if it might be too time-consuming for you to review these external links; would it be helpful if I put together a compilation of the excerpts describing Still Water (on a non-Wikipedia page, for example) so you don't have to pull them from the actual articles?

OK, I've looked over the article. I removed the external links that were in the body of the article. Also, be sure to integrate the material from the Selected Press into the article as references. For example, the first link talked about The Pool. You can use that source as reference material for section of the article that talks about the Pool, instead of keeping it in a separate section. OK, in the latest revision I have moved all "Selected press" references inline using the <ref> syntax, and have moved all external links to Still Water urls to a section at the bottom. It looks much better now. I think you're ready to move it to the mainspace. The only minor quibble I have is with the external links. Usually, when dealing with a company, it's best to only have one link to an official website.

As for the RSS, I'm sorry to say that I don't really know how Wikipedia handles it. You could ask at the help desk or at the computing reference desk. If I remember correctly, I think there are only some pages that have been set up with it, although I could be wrong. TNXMan 14:24, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

I've now re-created the Still Water page with the revised text. I also found via searching the FAQ (via the help desk link you suggested) that RSS for an individual page's changes can be found in the toolbox at left for the page's history section. Thanks, man. :) The other two were obvious socks to me, because of the article he targeted (Whitey Ford, one of his pets), the change he always makes in that article (uncited claims about a different birthdate) and his typical edit summary comments about people here having an "agenda" (the agenda being to demand citations; what meanies we are!) I think in one of his edit summaries, he actually denied being Ron Liebman before even being turned in. That's another part of his M.O. Rejected Gazebo F2F

Hi there and sorry i'm bothering you.

First of all the intention was not to advertise any web site or follow any personal interests, but "advertise" a new, unique, Friend-to-Friend software, because there aren't many (search on wikipedia) on that topic. It is unique because it is the only one (by my knowledge) that treats the F2F setup completely. Moreover, the intention was to point the users that are interested in F2F networks, to that article(which somehow it seems you missed to spot at Sources) that appeared recently and which brings some new points of view and guidelines to the F2F model . Why should this concern you ? It shouldn't probably if you're not interested in the F2F model, but i don't think you know that wikipedia is the only source that provides information about the F2F networks/model. The second source is that article which ... it seems is not "worthy of inclusion" and lacks of "significance of the subject".

It is probably my fault because i didn't provide a more detailed description and for that i apologize, but i just wanted to know if it(the article) could at least be put at References right about here friend-to-friend.

A few things to note, which may help you write a better article. First, Wikipedia does not accept advertising of any kind. All articles must be written from a neutral point of view. Secondly, the article submission did not indicate why the software was notable (and thus worthy of inclusion). Finally, the sources you listed are not reliable. My United Wrestling Alliance page was deleted just about 5 minutes after I created it. Is there a reason I didn't get a chance to do anything with it? I was wondering if you could explain why the page McMaster Engineering Society was deleted, aside from referencing CSD A7. First of all, be sure to use the {{cite web}} template in your references (between the <ref> and </ref> tags). Paymenex Deletion

Hi, Could you tell me what could be done to reinstate Paymenex TransNet, because the project is a research result carried out in both University of Liverpool and University of East London and at the end, 3wsentry solution was discovered as a solution to card fraud on the internet. In order to have an article, you must show why the company is notable. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article and how to support your article with reliable sources. Speedy re-creation!

Yesterday the redirect England Government, one of a number tagged by me which had been created by Mr Taz, was speedily deleted by you. Twenty four hours later, it reappears, the work of the same editor. This is not the first time he has done this with his highly original and misleading redirects (see his Talk page), about 80 of which I had speedily deleted a couple of months back. He also engages in edit wars to reinstate the indefensible, such as "national days" invented by him (see Talk:British Day) etc etc. His latest creations include Flag of Great Britain and Ireland as a redirect to Flag of the United Kingdom. I've got so tired of it that I now tend to let the purely nonsense or illiterate redirects such as Regional Development Agency for the Yorkshire and the Humber ‎ (redirected to Yorkshire Forward) pass by as I just don't have the time to keep up with it all. Other recent POV (not sure exactly what it is!) redirects include Great British Central Bank ‎and Great Britain Central Bank (redirected to Bank of England), which for some reason were declined as speedies, although the admin, DGG, sympathised (see his Talk page). I should add that these redirects, together with minor edits, are all that Mr Taz "contributes" here. He just will not listen to reason. Something needs to be done about this; all he is doing is creating work for others who have to deal with his edits. Could you please look into this - and bear in mind that much of the worst has been deleted so isn't on his contributions log - and perhaps bring it to the attention of other admins here as well, to keep an eye on the situation? I've deleted the redirects you've listed here, mainly because they make no sense. My suggestion is to take the paragraph above and post it to the admin's noticeboard. I do agree with you that these contributions are not helpful, but I hesitate to act unilaterally. A strong consensus, developed either an AN or a XfD discussion would be the best way to go. Why did you remove Apparel Search? It is a very legit company and article was clearly not written as spam. You deleted Apparel Search

You just deleted a listing I created today for Apparel Search. Please explain in more detail why you deleted the listing. Companies are permitted to be listed on Wikipedia. It is fine line between informing people about a company and advertising. Look in the clothing company section of this site. I have personally read nearly all of them. The one I have listed for Apparel Search is no different in structure. I linked to a few "schools", to show that Apparel Search is recognized by educational institutions and linked to the New York City Library that does not just link to any company. Apparel Search is a very valid company and should be listed in the Encyclopedia. There are even many other listings on this site that link to Apparel Search as a source of information. If you go to Alexa you will see Apparel Search ranks in the top 40,000 sites in the world (that seams like high number, but their are alot of sites...). Anyway, rather then delete Apparel Search, I would greatly appreciate that you help improve the listing to standard rather then delete it entirely. If something in the page needs to be adjusted, lets do it. There is only one link to the Apparel Search site, and I think that is reasonable. You'll first need to create an account. Once you've done that, go to User:Your New Account Name/Sandbox and start working on the article. After you feel it's ready to go (and I would encourage you to ask another editor for their opinion), you can move the page to the mainspace. Vandalism G3 states: Pure vandalism. This includes blatant and obvious misinformation, redirects created by cleanup from page-move vandalism, and blatant hoaxes.

Rather than simply deleting an article because you unilaterally decide it doesn't belong, then incorrectly proclaiming it to be "pure vandalism" by the above definition, which it clearly is not. Specific Carbohydrate Diet

This is my first attempt at editing Wikipedia. I thought that the deletions were caused by a computer glitch and kept reinstating them. During my last edit, I only reinstated the info about the book by Prasad since that had been on the wiki's Specific Carbohydrate Diet entry for a long time. I want to apologize for these misunderstandings.

I want guidance as to how to make the Specific Carbohydrate Diet entry as reliable as possible. Previous contributors to this page did not provide good references so this page has lots of warnings such as "This article or section has multiple issues. Please help improve the article or discuss these issues on the talk page."

What can I do so that these warnings no longer appear. TYI

Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge

Good Day Tnxman307 I am new to wikipedia work but I have 30 years experience with encyclopedia entries. Recently I edited out some errors on two different entries. One was John A Roebling and the other was Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge. The editing on the former was accepted but the editing on the latter did not stick. I tried to follow the rules as closely as I could. My only motive is accuracy. The latter (N.F.S.B.) is a spectacular entry, extremely well-crafted, one of the best I've seen in wikipedia. I remember you asking about this on the help desk. I'm not sure why your editing did not stick. A list of all the contributions you have made using this account can be found here. A good way to test what is happening is to make a dummy edit to the page. Just add a space at the end of a paragraph or some other unnoticeable change and try to save the page. I've not searched for sources. In fact, I was thrown for a loop when I found an essay asserting that it should be my responsibility to search for sources for somebody else's unreferenced article (if I want to move it toward deletion). The policy and practice are a little different. You should at least take a glance to see if there are any reliable sources that support the article, however, in many cases this is not done. No one will stop you if you bring the article straight to AfD, though. I recommend looking yourself just as a way of covering your bases. I was kind of embarrassed once when I brought an article to AfD and someone pointed out three reliable sources that were on the first page of Google results. TNXMan 11:45, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm glad you've posted a message here. One of the reasons that I've asked you to post here is so that I can offer you some links that will help you. Wikipedia strongly discourages people from writing articles where they may have a conflict of interest. There is a page that outlines the best practices if you do have a COI, which you can read here. I would also encourage you read our info on writing your first article. You shouldn't have to worry about your IP address being blocked - since you are editing under a new username, it should be OK. Also, I don't see why the old username should be unblocked, since you are using a new name. With your new account, you can work on an article in your userspace (using a sandbox, something like User:Sun Press/Sandbox). Well, just like the old name, you are discouraged from writing about articles where you have a conflict of interest. Beyond that, you are free to edit any of the articles on Wikipedia and add any well-sources knowledge you may have. You can submit your article at articles for creation and if it is accepted and moved the mainspace, it will show up right away. Thanks for the fast response. So a reason for deletion is not the importance of the band, but the article itself? I only translated the german version of this article and made no further changes. As the german version fitted the (german) encyclopedic standards I thought the english version would so, too. Do you have special passages that particularily not fit wikipedia's standards? Then I would adjust these passages. Even after my contesting for the article, wiki deleted it. I think i followed each and every guidelines. Proper referencing and linking. So where did the problem come of promotion? Like I mentioned earlier, the best course of action is to work on the article in your userspace. Because you persisted in creating the page, the page is now locked so only admins can create it. Hi, Tnxman307. I see you are pretty active at WP:AFC so I think you can help me with this. If there are some minor problems with a submitted article (for example, violations of WP:NPOV or written like an advert) do we fix them or decline the article anyway? I don't think there's a hard and fast rule either way. I'll usually clean up a submission's grammar, punctuation, and other minor things, but leave major edits to the submitter. It's because you put a leading colon in the category name. You put [[:Category:American radio networks]], when it should have been [[Category:American radio networks]]. The leading colon allows the category to display as a link (like so, Category:American radio networks), whereas leaving the colon out adds the page to the category. TNXMan 14:19, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Moving a Special User Page to a regular Article Page, Link from disambiguous Page, Redirecting a word that has been Redirected by someone else.

Hello, thanks for your help. I've already requested the help of an administrator, but now I can't find where I did that to delete it and have you help me instead, so here goes anyway:

My article is in a special user page User:Nanmwls/Redshirting (Academic). I want to 1. Change Name/Move to just "Redshirt(Academic)" in other words, make it a regular article page because I think it's ready (Oh you DO, do you?) :) 2. After the name change/move, I'd like to re-establish my link from the disambiguous page "Redshirt" (you can see my red link there under the heading "Other", but it now does not link to my User:Namwls... page. This is how I found you, you deleted it, probably because it was listed as "unusual redirect". Is that right? 3. Re-direct the word "Redshirting" to the Disambiguous Page or my new Article Page once it is moved. (The word Redshirting is currently being redirected to "Redshirt (College Sports)", but that appears to be just a redirecting of the verb of the original term "Redshirt" to their page. The term Redshirting is the primary term used to describe my topic, but I think my topic should remain on the disambiguous page under "Redshirt (Academic)" with a link to my page AND the term "Redshirting" should be directed to either the disambiguous page or my page. Can you help me figure out whether I should do that and how?

The first step is to get the article fixed up. It's really close as it stands. As ukexpat mentioned on the help page, the "Suggestions for Parents" and "Conclusions" really should be removed, as the material isn't very encyclopedic. The rest of the article looks OK, but you'll need to clean up citations. The citations are OK for an academic paper, but Wikipedia does its cites a little differently. Take a look at this page for more info (specifically, integrating references into inline citations using <ref> tags). Once you get the article fixed up, we can look at moving the page and redirects. I tried to be neutral but I must admit I am a novice to Wikipedia and find the article submission complex. Can you help me? I'd like to post something like:

Why did you delete WBCN?

WBCN is still an active station on HD Radio. Why did you delete the page? It needed some cleaning up, the change happened fast, but you didn't have any right to delete it.

Removal of Fiveways Facebook Link from Mooroolbark page

Why? Did it explicitly breach some Wiki rule?

I live in Mooroolbark. Have for years. I like the place, but I'll admit there's nothing all that special about it. The Fiveways roundabout is one of the few things non-residents mention that they remember about visiting or passing through Mooroolbark when the name of the place comes up. It's one of the few things that makes Mooroolbark special. The existence of the Facebook page reflects one of the few significant things about the suburb. I saw the new link and thought it made good sense.

Yep, cheers. The articles are mostly good, but there are some concerns over sourcing and language. The one you created actually did look pretty good to me, but we thought it best to address the issues in one lump, before turning to examine each one for creation. I'm sorry, but the article appeared to be advertising for the company and was not supported by reliable sources. Please remember that articles are here to provide encyclopedic info on subjects, not to provide corporate information. Basically the article serves to provide information on what is Cherry Credits. If the format is deemed to be written in an advertising manner, I would appreciate if there is some form of notice rather than plain outright deletion.

Ironically, the Cherry Credits article has its format and content modeled to align with similar Wikipedia articles such as the following:

...Yet these articles are deemed acceptable.

If indeed Cherry Credits article has infringe on what is deemed as advertising in nature and/or providing corporate information, I will suggest that you look into the above articles as well.

If the above articles qualify by your moderation to be acceptable, and Cherry Credits article to be not, then there certainly must be bias objective involved. The format and content style are mirrored.

I hope you will review based on the supporting pointers and note the comparison to the above mentioned. Much appreciated for your advice.

Well, first of all, the status one or more other articles has no bearing on another article. That sort of argument is known as "other stuff exists". Each article is addressed on an individual basis. I believe my reference to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOL_AccessPortal has bearings for contesting the deletion of Cherry Credits article. That is if you have reviewed the content and information on the MOLAccessPortal and compared it to Cherry Credits article. Both service the same business sector with different achievements, history and information. The format in which are information are presented are mirrored.

Hence if one should qualify, has existing links to its company page & information; and Cherry Credits article do not have links to their company's web page, why should the Cherry Credits article be deemed as advertising and this not?

I will like to suggest that you do an active comparison to see how similar both articles are crafted. This will be the lithium test identify if there is double standard moderation.

If this is an honest mistake, I will appreciate if you can revive the Cherry Credits article and I can make amendments on it thereafter if the basis for deletion is lack of supporting resources.

If you standby that the Cherry Credits article is viable for deletion due to advertising, then I suggest you review the other mentioned articles and subject them to your same moderation criteria. However if they are deemed acceptable, I will proceed to re-create Cherry Credits article in similar fashion to them.

This is one of the worst examples of biting the noob I've ever come across. This IP, as it noted in its edit summaries, was simply going around correcting a single image which said in its metadata:

This file has been superseded by File:Flag United Kingdom Portugal Brazil Algarves.svg.

It is recommended that the other file be used.

He was noting this in his edit summaries, but nonetheless was reverted as "unconstructive," by editors who didn't appear to background check his justification and went across the board and reverted all his edits. Then he was blocked when he reverted again (while explaining in his edit summaries...). I reverted one back to the proper image before I realized the extent of this little "kafuffle;" before noticing he was reverted across the board and then blocked. I don't know if I'm going to bother going and fixing all his edits, I commented on the talk pages of the two users who reverted him (who apparently didn't even display a modicum of AGF, plus neglected a few other policies), stating they should at least apologize on the IP's talk page (he may never come back though), and fix the edits they reverted. An unblock and an apology would be in line, I think.

PS I should qualify that I misread slightly this issue. One IP was blocked and reverted (User:81.193.93.130), the other noted all of his edits and was reverted across the board. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Dada Gujar

Hi, I had a talk with editor Jclemens yesterday regarding the content of the page. I informed him that this content was a citation of the award which Dr. Gujar had got. I am his grandson and can vouch that it does not infringe on any copyrights. He said I could go ahead and put the article back again with some changes. I have rephrased the original article and added some more information which was not present earlier. As far as advertising goes, I do not see how writing an article on a man who is no more with us qualifies as advertising ? The article just states facts and the awards he has won. I updated the the external links on the entry for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet yesterday with two links for websites that contain additional information and resources. You have since removed them as spam. I think they should be left on there, much as a link to the Atkins Diet homepage appears on the entry for Atkins Diet etc. What was the reason for removing those links? The links appeared to be links that are not allowed by Wikipedia policy, specifically point one "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article". Also, the link about children would probably be better placed in the Autism article. TNXMan 16:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply.

As stated in the policy directly above point one, "Except for a link to an official page of the article's subject". The link to breakingtheviciouscycle.info that you removed was to the official site. Beyond that it provides resources such as a Beginners Guide, Knowledge Base, Legal / Illegal foods list, Links to Doctors and Support Groups that are not included in the Wikipedia entry.

Pecanbread.com is a site strictly about the SCD that is geared toward parents who's children have Autism and or GI problems. It also provides unique resouces such as contacts for SCD counselors, suggestions on how to succeed with the diet, links to SCD research articles. An entire chapter from the book "Breaking the Viscious Cycle" on SCD and Autism is posted as well. The link is specific to the SCD diet but it's not a bad idea to put it on the entry for Autism also. Thanks for blocking that account. Does the block ban the ip address as well? From experience Mwalla will just create account after account after account if not. I know because of behavioural evidence, editing patterns, how they know words like NPOV and other things, they act like established editors when they are new, they edit war over the sam content and all 3 accounts appeared out of no where with the same POV, misrepresenting refs, same disruptive tactics on paroxetine article. I can usually spot Mwalla on his first edit LOL, this has been going on for over a year now. You could get a bit off history of the issue by reading the sockpuppet archive if you are interested.Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Mwalla/Archive Blocking hiis other accounts might help but I really need the ip addresses listed in the sockpuppet investigation archive reblocked as he has a habit of churning out multiple accounts in a very short period of time. His ip block has expired that tiptoey gave.
