File:Sidhu Moose Wala Mural Artesia.jpg
hey (@Whpq:), i am not sure about how to resolve the matter of the image you nominated for deletion https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f4/Sidhu_Moose_Wala_Mural_Artesia.jpg, plz can you provide some more detailed example how can i change that! — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiUser1211 (talk • contribs)
- You uploaded File:Sidhu Moose Wala Mural Artesia.jpg as a non-free image. Non-free content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. There is no allowance to add non-free images simply to illustrate an article. To meet WP:NFCC#8, you need to show why the image significantly enhances a reader's understanding of the subject of the article, and why it's removal is detrimental to a reader's understanding of the topic. This is usually accomplished by providing sourced critical commentary from reliable sources about the image. -- Whpq (talk) 11:51, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
hey @Whpq: i want you to inform that i already mentioned the purpose which you before added a template about that issue on image File:Sidhu_Moose_Wala_Mural_Artesia.jpg.I want a help if you can please provide detailed example of the issue related to the image incompleteness! thanks! WikiUser1211 (talk) 04:28, 23 June 2022 (UTC)WikiUser1211WikiUser1211 (talk) 04:28, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- It's not about the non-free usage rationale. It's about the actual usage in the article. Why must that image be in the article in order for a reader to understand the article? The use of this image does not comply with the non-free content criteria. Whpq (talk) 11:14, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
- The problem is that your usage of the image in the article does not satisfy WP:NFCC#8. No amount of changes to the rationale will fix that. Whpq (talk) 04:00, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello Whpq,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12589 articles, as of 06:00, 16 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

I'm grateful for your help!
Thanks sir for your links and suggestions! It is very helpful. I am really sorry for my mistake. I am a new editor, thus I am unaware of some rules. I have become somewhat frustrated due to these rules. I am sorry if I talked to you harshly earlier. I won't breach these rules again. Ps103ankit (talk) 16:45, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello Whpq,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Hi Whpq,
- Invitation
For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. If you already signed, thanks. Also, if you haven't noticed, the backlog has been trending up lately; all reviews are greatly appreciated.

Getty image
HI Whpq. Just wondering why you think File:Kurt Cobain.jpg is a Getty image? The file is being discussed at FFD right now, and it seems to be a crop of this which also subject to WP:F7. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:01, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- The image currently at FFD is not the same image that was deleted via F7. The one deleted by F7 was a previous upload by user:FMSky sourced to a web site that did not credit Getty Images. That image was this one. Whpq (talk) 12:32, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for clarifying. I was only going by what was posted at User talk:Explicit#Why did you delete my non-free image? and assumed they were the same. There probably should be a way other than WP:LOG to more easily determine when a "new" file has been uploaded using the name of a previously deleted file that doesn't require having admin tools to see the deleted version. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:47, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

File:St. Joseph High School former building, 1840 Mayfair Ave.jpg
Hi Whpq. What do you think about File:St. Joseph High School former building, 1840 Mayfair Ave.jpg this file being replaceable non-free use? According to St. Joseph High School (Westchester, Illinois)#History, it appears the the former school buildings were still in use up to 2021 and are still standing as of April 2022. This Google Streetview image (if current) seems to show the buildings to still be standing. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:45, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- The current stated purpose of the image is to support "Classes began at the new school on September 7th, 1960". That purpose is obviously replaceable with text. If the consideration is that the image could be used as visual identification in some fashion, then the question becomes whether the building's state of repair is such that it could fulfill that purpose. But then it would also need to meet WP:NFCC#8, and its stated purpose isn't going to be useful for satisfying non-free content criteria. Whpq (talk) 03:52, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi Whpq. Have you considered running for adminship? I frequently see you making valuable contributions to FfD, tracking down copyright violations, and addressing NFCC violations. We could really use your help at FfD; recently it's only been myself and Explicit (with occasional assistance from Ixfd64) keeping FfD and the dated deletion queues operational. We'd like to be able to vacation occasionally without letting these processes grind to a halt :) No pressure of course, but I hope you'll consider; I'll be happy to nominate you. -FASTILY 03:35, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- Fastily, I would be willing to be an additional nominator. Whpq, you have a good record, good temperament, and need for the tools. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:56, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Fastily and Moneytrees: Thank you for the vote of confidence. I've been asked a couple of times before about becoming an administrator and have declined. But I also have had in my mind that if there is a real need for more administrators, that I would do it. And I can see that there is a need for additional hands for dealing with files, and working with copyright issues. So I guess, third time's the charm. Yes, I would be willing run for adminship so that I can lend a hand in those areas. Cheers. -- Whpq (talk) 12:47, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

- I just finished writing my co-nomination; if there are any errors or anything you want changed, let me know. It's not a big deal, but you should note any previous accounts and if you've edited for pay in your acceptance statement (example). You then need to transclude your run, steps for which are at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Nominate#What_to_do_if_you_are_nominated_by_someone_else. Upon transclusion the run will start; if you want to wait for a little bit that's ok, and I or Fastily can transclude it for you if you don't want to. I feel incredibly sorry for asking a question that was poorly thought through and did not matter to me personally. This (causing people to cite the answer as an oppose reason) was not among my intentions when I asked that question. I could have asked a question that was many times better and did not put the spotlight on recall. I think you will be a great admin and thank you for pointing out how utterly pointless individual recall criterion are. Have a great day. 0xDeadbeef 18:46, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

File:People’s Anti-Fascist Front.jpg
Hi Whpq. Do you think File:People’s Anti-Fascist Front.jpg should be moved to File:People's Anti-Fascist Front.jpg? The apostrophe in the name is a full-width character which might be hard for someone to recreate if they don't copy-and-paste the file name. Maybe all that is needed is to create a redirect for the half-width version of the apostrophe. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- My preference is to just avoid apostrophes altogether in file names and then you avoid the problem of using the wrong apostrophe. I definitely have had to do cut and paste on file names before because of this or similar problems. Whpq (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I guess it could be renamed as "PAFF logo" or something similar, but that seems less descriptive. Anyway, I'm asking about this because it doesn't seem to meet any of the criteria for a move per WP:FMV/W, except possibly #6, and thought you might have come across something like this before. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:12, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know file moves very well, and I think I've only requested them a few times, so probably best to ask somebody with more familiarity on what is appropriate. Whpq (talk) 02:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Fair enough. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:25, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I would use the keyboard apostophe, like we do in other file names. Anyone can type that. Don't drop the apostrophe; no one is going to expect a misspelled "Peoples" filename. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 02:48, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Bolding the appropriate bullet
Hello Whpq, and congrats on your Rfa success. I noticed a remark you made in your response to Q8, where in discussing the template {{Uw-copyright-new}}, you said: "I've taken to bolding the the particular bullet point that applies to their situation." Presumably, in order to do what you said, you first have to subst the template, save it, then go back and edit the talk page again to bold the bullet you meant to, and then save again. Is that right? If so, it would be quite easy to modify the template to give you the option to bold it from the outset, using a parameter like |b3=yes
(to bold bullet 3), or maybe |bold=3
. Even specifying your own text should be possible: |boldtext=Fair use images must meet all ten
. I enjoy making templates more useful and efficient for users, so if any of this sounds interesting to you, let's talk. Mathglot (talk) 00:53, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Try
{{Uw-copyright-new/sandbox|bold=3}}
in your sandbox. Mathglot (talk) 01:15, 7 October 2022 (UTC)- I usually place the message using twinkle, but this looks great! Whpq (talk) 02:04, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- Does that mean Twinkle already has bolding capability somehow? Not familiar how it works, or is similar/different to just transcluding the template. - Does that mean Twinkle already has bolding capability somehow? Not familiar how it works, or is similar/different to just transcluding the template. There's no need to mark listings as {{CPC|P}} if you do the revdel yourself; that's for admins to clean up after us non-admins put revdel requests :) otherwise, thank you so much for helping out at CPN! Reverse copyright
How to check for reverse copyright? I could not find any date in the ext, cite. Referring to Sarvatobhadra Chakra Venkat TL (talk) 12:46, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- I provided an explanation at Talk:Sarvatobhadra Chakra of why I decided it was reverse copying. In one of the two sites you used, there was a date on the page itself. The other site just looked rather suspect to me and I checked the other links on a hunch that they were copied as well. Also, if you examine the HTML source of the weebly hosted page, you'll see that it uses image assets from other sites directly which to me was a red flag that something was amiss. Quick note on Muhammad Iqbal’s conception of Time
Thanks for your edits to Muhammad Iqbal’s conception of Time.
I think the script you are using broke, it should not be putting $1 and $2 inside the copyvio template. I think I fixed it, but please check. Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis ❄️ 12:30, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

File:WWFN-FM logo.png
Hi Whpq. Do you think File:WWFN-FM logo.png is OK as {{PD-logo}}? The cursive-like "The Fan" element seems like the only thing that might push this above the TOO. I don't think it is, but would like a second opinion just to be sure. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:35, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think it is PD logo. The cursive fan is still essentially a fancy font used to produce text. -- Whpq (talk) 02:37, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Hello, Whpq,
First, congratulations on your successful RFA! It can be a taxing process.
Secondly, I've noticed you handling some of the files that end up in this category every night. It's a task I typically handle but it never hurts to have multiple admins who can take care of these revisions. I have a feeling that you are handling these deletions manually but if you look over the content on this category page, it mentions a line of code you can add to your Javascript page. This results in an option under the drop-down menu on the More tab at the top of the page that says Rescaled or Rescale. If you select this option when you are on the file page, it will quickly delete the old versions of the file and also remove the deletion notice from the page. It makes the process very quick. So, I encourage you to try it out if you are not currently using it. Again, congratulations! Welcome to the admin corps! Liz Read! Talk! 02:46, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- I am using the script but it seems to work inconsistently so it's a mix of script assisted and manual. I am trying to discren a pattern before reporting my n problem. Thanks. -- Whpq (talk) 04:05, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

WP:MCQ#Fair use guidance on article documenting first computer racing game
Hi Whpq. Would you mind taking a look at Racing game#Mainframe racing games (1970) and File:Tomorrow's World, presenter Raymond Baxter plays computer racing game against British race driver Graham Hill, Dec 1970.jpeg? The file was uploaded before I posted at WP:MCQ#Fair use guidance on article documenting first computer racing game, but even so I'm not sure the uploader quite understood what you and AndyThe Grump posted about citing scans as sources and original research. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:16, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- How unfortunate. The file clearly does not meet WP:NFCC#8 since it's real use is as a reference and being able to see it in the article is not needed to understand that a mainframe racing game was broadcast on a TV show. The text is adequate to explain that so it also fails W:NFCC#1. Feel free to nominate for deletion. -- Whpq (talk) 00:21, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- That's pretty much my assessment as well. Even without the MOS:SEEIMAGE paranthetical at the end of that section, it does seem they're trying to use the scan as a "visual citation". I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since they uploaded the file before I posted at MCQ, but even so the prior responses given to their OP didn't advise them not to do such a thing. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:52, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
Draft:Einsteinium compounds
Hi. And thanks for the work that you do. I noticed your edit no this draft's talk page. When I checked the version of the article the information was taken from in April 2015, it did not contain the information in the copyvio. Did I miss something? Onel5969 TT me 14:27, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- The draft was created today, Oct 31, 2022 and the version of Einsteinium at the time the copy was placed in the draft contained that material. I'm not sure where April 2015 came from. Are you saying that Einsteinium may contain copyright violations? -- Whpq (talk) 15:44, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm also pinging DanCherek, who declined the revdel on the mainspace article. The source was this blog, which appears to have been written in March 2015. DanCherek thought that link was a mirror, but I must have missed the information in the Einsteinium article back in 2015. So if it truly is a mirror there is no issue, but if not, then yes, the Einsteinium article also has copyvio in it. Onel5969 TT me 16:05, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello Whpq. Thank you for reviewing my CSD tag, I understand why you declined it. Would you have any issue if I draftified the article? Just thought I would ask prior to doing so, as I don't believe it's ready for the mainspace in its current state and I didn't want to be perceived as combative in any way. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:40, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- I agree that it is woefully inadequate at this time and draftifcation would be a good option. -- Whpq (talk) 19:00, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Tara J. Yosso
Curious to know what makes you think Tara J. Yosso does not require a fundamental rewrite. The entire article is a self promotion, containing only self-published sources. I can find no reliable sources covering her whatsoever. Not to mention the majority of the article is written by Yosso. Asperthrow (talk) 12:54, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Although the selected publications section is quite bad, the lede and biography sections are not unduly promotional. Self-published sources and lack of coverage in reliable sources would not be covered by G11. If you still think the article needs to be deleted, you can nomiate it for deletion. -- Whpq (talk) 13:20, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for your G11 decline. It was previously an article, but being now moved to draft by the article creator IMO the draftification, an WP:ATD, is potentially better than CSD G11. Thanks for your work! VickKiang (talk) 04:25, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Wikipedia and Copyright
Wait what? The AUSTIN South Asian the blog that you mentioned was created on 3 October 2022. But we in Wikipedia, 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup developed the same content way before from the last year progressively. That matter is used in the Finals page, that you're claiming. Actually, the blogger is the one who copied all the content from WIKIPEDIA. (Say for example: The venues section was written in November 2021 by Lugnuts and me with ref of ICC and Cricinfo – the same phrasing found in the blog) I don't know why Onel5969 is claiming like this, the blogger should be ashamed of this, copying from Wikipedia. Also unexpected review from an experienced reviewer. Kirubar (talk) 01:24, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you pointing this out. I will undo the revision deletion, and restore the article. It's been moved to draft, but the only reason I redirected was after removal of what I thought was a copyvio, there wasn't enough left to sustain an article. One very important thing to note though is that copying within Wikipedia requires attribution and there was no attribution that material was copied from 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup as required. -- Whpq (talk) 02:07, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi Whpq -- I was trying to save this when you deleted it; not necessarily wrong, but I think assembling relatively short, explicitly sourced quotations as material to make an article may well be acceptable? (Only one of these was definitely on the long side.) Also the end of the sandbox was an article draft which at least purported to be original. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 05:14, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- We allow limited quotations. That sandbox was more than limited quotations when looked at as a whole. I think the draft portion at the end is okay to restore if it is original. I am headed off for some sleep so I can't check into it now, but if you can have a look, I have no objections to having that draft portion returned to the sandbox. -- Whpq (talk) 05:29, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- Afaik, the limit is on the proportion of the whole text quoted, not on how many quotations are in one sandbox? Otherwise books of quotations would be illegal! Only one of them looked to me to be obviously over the limit, though the others might possibly have been if the article quoted were short. Espresso Addict (talk) 05:34, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- The context matters. The article was a a compendium of copied text with no indication that they were being used as quotes, and no original text in which that copied text was being used to support. -- Whpq (talk) 12:45, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I hope its okay to respond here. I am a student that was part of this group that was actively editing this article sandbox. We were doing a series of edits. I am a bit confused on all of this as to why it was deleted. These, edits are a large portion of our grade for the class. If there is anyway to restore it all. I will try to fix where what needed to be sourced quotations, or what else needed to be fixed. If this could please be restored. If i could see the draft again and be pointed out what needed to be fixed as I can't see it now. Since it is a group assignment some of my group mates might've added in quotes with the intention to fix them later. As we are students and have busy schedules and can't work on it all the time. Shastevens (talk) 02:55, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- The sandbox was deleted twice. The first time was due copied text from sources. The second time was because it was tagged as a copyright violation from an external site. After review, I see that it is actually an unattributed copy from Light and Space. I have restored this. Just remember that copying within Wikipedia requires attribution. -- Whpq (talk) 03:27, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, Im sorry about that. In the class itself we were informed to edit both the current article and in addition to our own edits. However there was, no way to edit to existing text within the sandbox because it was linked to the article itself that was pre-existing. I am sorry about that. Again thank you. Possible move to Commons
Hi Whpq. I'm wondering whether File:Sensibo logo.png would be OK to tag for a move to Commons. c:COM:TOO Israel seems close to c:COM:TOO US, so if it's OK as {{PD-ineligible-USonly}} it's probably OK as currently licensed and should be on Commons instead. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:40, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
