  • Charming article. Reading it made me click Jacob Valero, and that made me wonder whether there should be a category similar to Category:Jewish businesses established in Mandatory Palestine for businesses established under Ottoman rule. E.M.Gregory (talk) 16:01, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
  • @E.M.Gregory: Thanks. The new category sounds like a good idea. (I had to delete Jacob Valero as one of the notable residents because according to his Wikipedia page, he died a year before Even Yisrael was founded.) Yoninah (talk) 16:25, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Certainly you had to. There are enterprises to fill such a category (Jaffa–Jerusalem railway). What, however, would you call it? Since there was no Ottoman province/vilayet/district at all equivalent to Mandatory Palestine or ancient or modern Israel, anyghitn like Jewish businesses in Ottoman Palestine feels misleading/incorrect. Please consider RFA

I'll be blunt. I think you should be an admin, both for Wikipedia and for yourself. Although each RFA experience is different, I was surprised by the editors who gave me support, and equally surprised by how few opposed. You can approach someone at Request an RfA nomination to nominate you. I'd be willing to be a co-nominator, but I think you'd like someone with more experience in the process to be the main nominator. I've always enjoyed working with you, and I believe you to be a quality contributor. I know you have a credible track record in two areas that come up at RFA, your AFD stats, and content creation. You don't seem to have any block history on your account. In my case, I may have had a limited scope of what I could do with adminship. But once I got the tools, I realized there are a whole lot of areas where I can make a difference in small increments that help build and maintain Wikipedia. But that's me, and I enjoy being an unnoticed gnome at times. — Maile (talk) 13:22, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Maile66: thank you for your kind words, and for the neat links. I still prefer to be one of the foot soldiers for now. While I have flexed my administrative muscles doing reviews for DYK, I get the most satisfaction out of article creation, and would prefer to invest more of my time in that. But thanks for the vote of confidence! Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:27, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
I'll second Maile66. I am primarily a content contributor and find the tools very very useful, but can understand. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 07:12, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I was surprised that you weren't an admin. My own experience with RfA was extremely nasty,[1] but I've been around a decade and made enemies who all (other than the indeffed users, and I know at least two of them came back as socks primarily to !vote) showed up. I should have run about five years ago, frankly, and for you, now might be the time. I would support you in an RfA, and I suggest that you should run now because it won't get any easier later. Wikipedia is in desperate need of mature, experienced admins, and the RfA system needs people to run who understand the role of content creation; we have too many people who have no clue what the people who actually create encyclopedic content face. Montanabw(talk) 19:20, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your input, @Montanabw:. After reading WP:ADMIN to see what an administrator is all about, I don't think it's for me. Yoninah (talk) 14:42, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

I have to agree with Maile, Casliber and Montanabw in that I think you would do very well at RfA, and I would say in your case a clear and obvious need for the tools is to promote DYK preps to queue, and to main page, something we really are lacking in right now (indeed, it was the discussion on WT:DYK and dropping the old cliche, "wait, Yoninah's not an admin?" that brought me here), and also I believe you would be able to handle WP:CSD#G12 speedy deletions easily. I admit that clearing out CAT:CSD and WP:RFPP (where my mop and bucket is most frequently deployed) is not exactly glamorous stuff that will win you friends and influence people, but I find it's a nice way to just take a break from serious writing for a while, and feeling satisfied that the admin backlogs have been reduced a bit. You do NOT need to go anywhere near ANI and Arbcom, and I would say that our better admins (quick wave to MelanieN, CambridgeBayWeather and Rosiestep) give it a sensible and wide berth. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:57, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

I've noticed you around and about and also think you'd make a fine admin. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 10:44, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Me too. Plus another admin lurking at DYK is never a bad thing. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:01, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Me too, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:19, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I think I understand how you feel about wanting to stick with content creation as that's my happy place, too. I received the mop and bucket a long time ago (after 23 months of editing), but use the tools rarely. However, when I do need them, it is handy to have them... something to consider, perhaps. In any case, if you ever decide to pursue RfA, I am one more editor who will support you. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:54, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
To give you another idea of the sort of things you can do, consider Talk:Spain/Archive 7#Protected. Although I clearly used the tools there, it was in the context of a discussion about improving an article (and if you look carefully, you'll notice that, contrary to popular opinion that admins get it with both barrels 24/7, there's somebody thanking me for using the tools). If I'm brutally honest quite a few admins we do have just can't do that - they would rather slap templates around and maybe block a few people for "violating" 3RR. Ugh, no thanks. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:09, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Ritchie, but I'm not going to pile on here. Yes, Yoninah would be a great admin; yes, she would easily pass RfA; yes, it would benefit the encyclopedia if she had tools. But give her a break, it's got to be her choice. I am one of those that had to be "dragged kicking and screaming" to RfA; for that matter, Ritchie, so were you as I recall. (At least in my case the suggestions were made individually and privately, not a public mobbing like this.) For you and me RfA turned out to be a reasonably pleasant experience and we have enjoyed being admins. But: people had been telling me I should be an admin for more than a year before I finally decided to take the plunge. I know some people that I have urged for years to run, but they have declined for personal offline issues; I respect that and I don't have to know what those issues are. We can encourage Yoninah and offer to nominate her (I'd love to have that honor myself but she can probably do better), but at the end of the day it's got to be her decision, and it's none of our business why she decides the way she does. --MelanieN (talk) 14:31, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I have to agree with MelanieN in that the choice has to be Yoninah's. That said I think she would make a great admin. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:15, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

DYK for June Chan

Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 16:35, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Yoninah, if you truly think that the article isn't appropriate for the main page in its current form, and nothing has been done to deal with this issue for a month and a half, then if you are going to review it, do so and (based on what you've written there) put the "X" icon on it (or, if you want to give one final chance—I wouldn't allow more than another seven days if so, and specify that you're doing so—the "/" icon that you used back in May). I'm perfectly happy to have you review it, and would prefer you did if you're likely to want to pull it from prep if someone else reviews and approves it.

If you don't want to put an icon on it (beyond the "review again" you just used), then I think you should stand aside and let it proceed however it might, even if that means it eventually finds its way to main page with the article in its current form. It's your choice. I'll see there if you decide to complete your review; if you decide otherwise, please let me know. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:34, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

File:Club Harlem 1964.jpg How about this? We hope (talk) 20:20, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
@We hope: Great, thanks!
I don't really have time to expand Paradise Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey) within the 7-day DYK window, which ends August 4. However, when I do have time, we could certainly make it a 5x expansion and nominate it then. Are you interested in working on it? Yoninah (talk) 20:24, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
I can work on it later-I don't think there's going to be as much on this club as we found for both the 500 Club and Club Harlem, though. We hope (talk) 20:39, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
Do you think we have enough to get the two clubs up to GA? I don't think we can measure them against some of the other club GAs as they have less material and we can only go on what sources exist.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:51, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I think I can find more information on Club Harlem (there's a whole Legacy section to be added), and with a few more images it could be GA quality. 500 Club is also well on its way. But as I said, I'm a little pressed for time this week. Yoninah (talk) 20:55, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Club Harlem

Hello! Your submission of Club Harlem at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Amgisseman(BYU) (talk) 19:10, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, you're invited to join this. A loosely coordinated project, but one which I think is really needed to tie Sinatra-related material together, as he created his own world in a way. I think it's something which has long been needed, so hope you're interested and sign up!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:55, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

The idea is more to tie things together than a "wikiproject", as they're not everybody's cup of tea, but my thinking was that it would improve organization and focus.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:29, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

DYK for 500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey)

On 5 August 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that while top-name talent like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Martin and Lewis performed at Atlantic City's 500 Club, an illegal casino operated behind the scenes? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Paradise Club

I think this is about all that can be added to the article. The book ref says the club building is gone and it's now a parking lot, however, I've yet to find a time frame when this happened. It was still going in the 1950s, when Alten & Williams owned it along with Club Harlem, but when Alten did the interviews about the demise of Club Harlem circa 1987, he said nothing about when the Paradise Club was closed, etc. I can't locate anything--free or non-free-re: an image for the club-not even a matchbook that could be used-sorry. We hope (talk) 15:49, 7 August 2016 (UTC)

Based on the ref in the article, it opened in the 1920s. Prohibition started in 1920 and it's a good bet many of the clubs were created to dodge prohibition. Nucky Johnson, who ran AC at the time, was heavily involved in bringing liquor into the US via ship. We hope (talk) 16:16, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
@We hope: Great, thanks. Yoninah (talk) 16:18, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
We hope, do you think there is enough for a GA on this? It would be good to get these promoted and the work paid off I think!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
User:Dr. Blofeld, not sure any more information is available to us for any of these clubs, so any GA possibilities would need to be judged on the basis of what's there at present. We hope (talk) 12:31, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that was my thinking. 500 and Club Harlem certainly look nearing GA now I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:43, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
They were the two most frequently mentioned in books and newspapers. We hope (talk) 12:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
I'll take another look at Club Harlem tomorrow, cheers.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:38, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

named to the law review

Hello, I wanted to ask, what does this mean? Does it mean mentioned in the publication, or does it mean appointed as an editor of the publication, or contributed to the publication, or is it a specific technical term related to legal education and publishing? @MPS1992: it means "appointed to". I changed it to "became a member of". If that's not the right expression, please feel free to change it. Yoninah (talk) 18:12, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

Prep 5

Yoninah, I was about to put the Fabian Florant Olympics hook in the lead slot—I think it's an interesting picture, and Florant should go in this set (as should the other Olympics hook for August 15), but first the Doiran Memorial hook got slotted in while I was checking the Florant, and then you moved Doiran and replaced it with a non-special-occasion bio hook. Given that it's a special occasion and we'll have two Olympics hooks as it is, I think Florant should get the nod, if the key here is bio.

Also, you asked for objections in your edit, and I object to the move of the March hook to the quirky slot. Please move it back, or I'll do so if you'd rather not.

I'm happy to let you take care of the above, or I'll do it myself. Thanks, whichever you decide to do. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:37, 14 August 2016 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: sorry, I missed that August 15 special occasion hook. Since you're working on it, please put it in the lead slot. I'll move David Dahl further along. And I kinda knew you would object to my idea of quirkiness :). I'll move that one. Yoninah (talk) 23:39, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Yoninah. I've got both Olympics hooks into Prep 5, and moved March up one to make room for the non-lead Olympics hook. I'll leave it to someone else to finish off the set, which now has four of seven slots filled. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:13, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Grace's Little Belmont

This is something we have to solve at least partly, before going any further. Am now clipping news stories re: Herndon Daniels. A thumbnail about him is that he owned a place called the Capital Club in AC in 1932. He was involved in various betting operations in AC for some time-the "numbers" racket was one of them. From news stories, Daniels looks to have been in and out of jail quite a bit for various gambling charges.

He married Alice Dixon, who was an entertainer-worked at Connie's Inn and the Cotton Club, as well as the Kit Kat Club in NYC. He married Alice 3 days before going to jail for a gambling charge in 1939. If you take a look at the clipping, you see she's referred to as the former Alice Dixon and the NYC work is mentioned. I have news stories re: this 1939 marriage. Also have a better copy of the photo of Alice Dixon Daniels at the cash register, which I believe we can use as not renewed, but need to check it yet. The clipping also says they were living in the apartment above the club. Everything I'm seeing calls him Herndon and not Herman.

Now. it looks like he was once married to a Grace Morgan who was the owner of Grace's Organic Beauty School. I just archived this search because you honestly can't see it any other way on the Public Library site. The text won't show up on the photos and I don't see the photo of Grace Daniels at all-only the description on the search page. He's listed as being the owner of Little Belmont Bar and Restaurant-later Grace's Little Belmont at 37 Kentucky AC. The beauty school was said to be at 37-39 Kentucky, operated by Grace Daniels. I found a news story from 1934 that says Miss Grace Morgan of the Organic City Beauty School in AC donated a prize. So it would seem that he was married to Grace first; no idea if they divorced or she died. Also don't know if the Capital Club was located at the same place as Little Belmont and it was just a change of name. Let me get to these clipping and I'll start posting the links here so you can see. We hope (talk) 14:23, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

@We hope: Terrific investigative work! I don't have access to all your clipping sites, so whatever you find is great. This source says about the barber shop: The shop opened on the street in 1938 as Grace's Beauty and Barber Shop, by the owner of the Little Belmont Bar, then down the street across from the Club Harlem. And this obituary of "Baby" Sanchez says of Sanchez in 1941: Her close friend Grace Daniels had a club "Grace's Little Belmont" in Atlantic City, across from Club Harlem which was a magnet for the stars in that fun town. Baby would frequently work there. That last source definitely puts Grace at the scene in the 1940s. I'm wondering if Alice and Hernan/Herndon divorced after he got out of prison and then he married Grace? She already owned the barber shop and then she put her name on the bar. Articles that recap their lives are just linking her with the ownership of the Little Belmont during the 1930s, but she didn't come into the picture until the 1940s. Yoninah (talk) 14:33, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
In this 1931 article they're not married, but visiting Baltimore from Atlantic City. Yoninah (talk) 14:41, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
I'm leaning to there being a divorce and after that, he married Grace. I have a link to post here re: the 1939 marriage of Herndon Daniels and Alice Dixon, where the club is called "Little Belmont"-not Grace's Little Belmont. Working on getting these links together and posted here. We hope (talk) 15:39, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
I just went to Bing street view maps and there's a parking lot at 37-39 South Kentucky in AC. The hair shop is no more either. We hope (talk) 16:48, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Herndon and Alice

  • 1939 marriage to Alice Dixon "Little Belmont"
  • Married 1939 3 days before going to jail
  • 1939 Alice managing club. This is another version of the news story. Says they were married shortly before he went to jail-again "Little Belmont"-living above the club.
  • Alice from Baltimore said to have once been engaged to Count Basie
  • Boxing champ Joe Jouis visits Little Belmont 1939. Says the crush forced him to take refuge in the Daniels' upstairs apartment. The couple later took him to Club Harlem and infers Club Harlem was pricier than Little Belmont.

We hope (talk) 16:16, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

@We hope: Thanks. I think we can go ahead and state the following, all of which (except for the divorce part) can be sourced: The Little Belmont Bar was opened by Herndon Daniels in the mid-1930s. (We could say something about him being a numbers banker from the sources you found and the source below.) He was tried for tax evasion and sent to Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary in 1939, whereupon his new wife Alice Dixon Daniels took over management of the bar while he was in the pen. They later divorced, and after World War II he married Grace Morgan, and the club became known as Grace's Little Belmont. OK with you? Yoninah (talk) 00:20, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Book source on Daniels agreeing to testify against Nucky in 1940 Yoninah (talk) 00:34, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Re: divorce--we think this is what happened but don't have any way to verify it. Can we word it something like "after World War II he married" to indicate he was no longer married to Alice, but to Grace. We hope (talk) 19:10, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@We hope:, yes, fine. I'll work on it in the next few days. Meanwhile, are you able to dig up a free image of Wild Bill Davis that was taken in the 1960s or earlier? Another question: I started to collect sources for Wonder Gardens (I found only two that discuss the club in any detail), and was wondering if this image is usable for the page? Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:08, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
File:Wild Bill Davis.jpg Wild Bill. We hope (talk) 19:03, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
  • Wow, thanks! Amazing photo. I'll add it to the Wild Bill Davis page and to Grace's Little Belmont (I'm working on the rewrite right now.) Too bad the DYK nomination went through so quickly; it's going to the main page on Monday. Yoninah (talk) 19:18, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
The poster is a copy of one from 1971, so it can't go as PD. If nothing turns up re: a photo of some type for the club, I think you could use the poster for identification of the now defunct club. We hope (talk) 19:06, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
I'm really not as expert as you on uploading images. I also saw that Flickr image of Grace's Little Belmont and didn't know it could be uploaded as Fair Use. I would like to get back to you about Wonder Gardens after I post it. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:18, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

It seems the ACPL photo collection is working again. This is a photo of Grace's Organic Beauty School when it was still on the second floor. I can't see a name on the restaurant downstairs as to if it's Little Belmont or not. Photo is small and watermarked. We hope (talk) 19:54, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

DYK

Thank you, I do appreciate it. I tried to alternate between "human" and non-human images but seems like I got one off somewhere along the way. I started at the top and scrolled down, put bios in every second slot, 1 Mexican politician in each prep to spread them out and filled in non-bios as I went. I passed up a few reviews that were image hooks and ended up picking up your hook after just 2 days since I got to it as I scrolled down, but I see it has been reopened so nothing hits the front page too quickly.  MPJ-DK  01:07, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Jet photo

This has to be fair use because it's after 1963. Anything from the period before 1923 is PD. Anything from 1923-1963 that wasn't renewed is PD. Anything from before 1978 that wasn't copyright marked is PD. This one is still covered by the original Jet copyright. There's so little available from Wonder Gardens, I doubt we're going to see a photo of the building or anything else--why not make this the infobox photo? We hope (talk) 00:51, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

OK, thanks! Yoninah (talk) 09:44, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Excellent job, just noticed, sorry haha. I've fleshed the lede out a bit in 500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey) and nommed for GA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:57, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

1:16:14 The Jockey Club ;-). Can you expand that one? I wonder if we can work out what the "club on Atlantic Avenue where Lionel Hampton used to play" was! Dr. Blofeld 14:25, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I think it's the Surf Club; see Billboard 1952 and Billboard 1953. Other clubs on Atlantic Avenue: Club Bolero and Club Casba. Yoninah (talk) 10:52, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
@Dr. Blofeld: I'm going to pass on the gay nightclubs like the Jockey Club and Paddock International. Yoninah (talk) 00:03, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Oh OK, I didn't realise they were gay ones!♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:06, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Any chance you could move 500 Club (Atlantic City, New Jersey) back to the 500 Club page? I think the dab is unecessary and the full city/state name a bit ugly. I think it was prominent enough to be the main article on it. A hatnote to the other should be fine.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:12, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I changed the disambiguation page to a redirect, but I can't change the page name without administrative help. I'll apply for that now. Yoninah (talk) 09:18, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
OK, Materialscientist is good with that sort of thing.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:42, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Politician DYK

Right now Prep 3 has two different hooks that are politics, I put it in 4 to avoid doubling on the same topic. I don't have a problem running them more spread out, but double subject in a prep is probably also not desirable.  MPJ-DK  00:56, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Now I know you dislike contests, but if ever there was a contest to fuel it, rather than being for personal gain it could be a book fund to help editors further improve Israel-related topics by giving them the books they want. So would all be amicable and productive. ;-) If you could get a couple of editors interested I will set something up.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:57, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: I admire your creativity! I'd be happy to help, but not for the next month, as I am busy with work and preparing for the Jewish holidays (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot). I'll be able to devote more time to projects in November. Best, Yoninah (talk) 21:46, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Rock-Olga

Considering I left it to someone else to review etc. I figured it would not be a problem to put it back in the spot it already had before.  MPJ-DK  22:27, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

@MPJ-DK: I understand. But if you do more than minor tweaks, you probably should recuse yourself from promoting it for appearances' sake. Yoninah (talk) 22:34, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Probably a good idea, thanks.  MPJ-DK  22:38, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Yoninah. Thank you for the most appropriate edits at the said article. Per this edit of yours, please change the hook at the template (please remove art). Thanks. Lourdes 02:07, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Rico Harris

Since I didn't get the chance to respond to your comment at the DYK before it was closed, let me do so here and now.

I included all that information about his life because I believe Harris is notable in his own right, not just as a missing person, due to his basketball career (I think making the Globetrotters is significant enough, but there's also the LACC season and his short career at CSUN, which is a D-I school). He merited non-trivial coverage in newspapers in and outside of Los Angeles before his disappearance. That's why the article is so titled, just with his name and not "Disappearance of ..." @Daniel Case: Oh, OK. Thanks for the explanation. Yoninah (talk) 21:33, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Edward A. Geary DYK Comment

Saw your note on Geary DYK. I’ve submitted alt hook as you suggested, but I still like original. I think a lot of readers would be interested in someone who was unanimous elected House speaker since Republicans and Democrats don't agree on much these days. Balloon angle is good too so I’ll go with whatever you decide. Thanks!--Orygun (talk) 06:24, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

Yoninah, the nominator has finally replied to your review; it's up to you to decide how this proceeds from here. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:04, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: Well, the nominator certainly has an attitude. I'm in no mood to do his work for him. Yoninah (talk) 23:06, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
Then perhaps you should close it, if it needs work to qualify for DYK that it isn't going to get. That also was on offer. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:21, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your help with my first DYK. I'm tickled that an article I worked on might soon be on the front page. I also really appreciate your edits to the page. I enjoy researching and writing, but I'm far from skillful, as your red pen can tell. I am really thankful that you put in the time and effort to clean the page up and make it presentable like you did. Smmurphy(Talk) 20:09, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

@Smmurphy: You're welcome! May it be the first of many! Yoninah (talk) 20:14, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Is there any chance for my DYK nomination to be used for Halloween?

For most of this year I have been working on a very thorough and comprehensive timeline of pterosaur research that I recently nominated for DYK. Because the hook mentions pterosaurs having been thought to be an infernal creation of the devil I was hoping it could head one of the Halloween sets. I know it's really last minute but is there any way this could happen? I'm willing to take on extra QPQ loads or something if there is a way we can expedite the review process. We could also break it up and, say, have multiple users review a decade of the timeline each or something. Abyssal (talk) 19:10, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Done @Abyssal: thanks for alerting me to this. Yoninah (talk) 00:09, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

DYK: Paul Nahaolelua

With your experience on DYK. Is it okay if I were to nominate this DYK with the hook "... that Paul Nahaolelua (pictured) was President during the elections of two Hawaiian monarchs?" and have it nominated for US Election Day? This would be my first misleading hook I've ever considered. Also is it allow to ask another user to review your DYK nomination.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 10:03, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

@KAVEBEAR: thanks for the compliment. Personally, I find the hook vague and not hooky. Looking over the article, I see other juicy things you could say about him. There's nothing wrong with asking another editor to do the review, but s/he might not get around to it as quickly as you'd like. Best, Yoninah (talk) 13:30, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
It has been reviewed. I think the vagueness itself will be in itself hooky when it is presented on Election Day since presidents and kings usually don't coexist together and most Wikipedia reader aren't familiar with elective monarchy to understand the election of kings. Now what is the exact procedure for getting it reserved for November 8. Do I just wait or is there anything on my end I need to do?--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:37, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: I moved the approved hook to the Special Occasions holding area for November 8. Congratulations! Yoninah (talk) 17:08, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
