Review of and feedback regarding artist promotional activity[edit]
In noting that both the recently created articles Shaun_Leonardo and Elissa_Blount_Moorhead, both for artists, were written in an almost resume, promotional format, I noted both were created by User:JVadera whose page notes "Hello! I am an artist, cultural producer, and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. I am co-organizing the Art+Community edit-a-thon @ Pratt Institute with User:UzmaZRizvi." While this may be very much intended in good faith it seems in effect a concerted promotional effort for artists including in the focus of the articles on artist's statements and commentary about their own work. I feel out of my depth about how best to raise/address this as a concern exactly so I thought I'd bring it here to the attention of anyone more experienced and familiar with Wikipedia's policies and processes to review and provide the involved users and community any appropriate feedback. - Edit-a-thons generally add good content to Wikipedia but often need quite a bit of cleanup afterwards. Many of the editors at such events are "by definition" inexperienced and need a lot of help and guidance. I find that organizers of edit-a-thons sometimes underestimate the extent to which their participants need help, which results in sub-standard articles being produced. I believe we need a far more structured approach to edit-a-thons so that the experiences of the newbie participants can be enhanced and the quality of the product of these events could be improved. Currently many such edit-a-thons are planned off-wiki, and WikiProjects that are involved in the topic area are often kept in the dark, whether intentionally or due to the ignorance of the event organizers, this results in "mainstream" Wikipedians being surprised by the sudden appearance of a bunch of new articles on a particular topic - most of which require substantial cleanup. - Thanks for your response. Even if there isn't a clear path to follow about it, I feel better knowing someone more experienced is aware of it and sees it a similar way. That was what was most important to me about it. I've done a bit of editing here but only recently tried out patrolling a little so I'm still getting familiar with a lot of the process of how Wikipedia works/should work in that regard. My legal name is Edward Banayoti, Ashraf Banayoti is just a given name, so on line for my wife Princess Aisha bint Hussein, my name should be stated as either Edward Banayoti, or Edward Ashraf Banayoti, it was stated wrong on the Royal Court Announcement. - @Edward Asharaf Banayoti: Do you have a publicly accessible source that tells us this? Our verifiability policy requires that anyone using the encyclopaedia can verify the information they find on it (which means your passport would be unsuitable), and I can't find any mention of "Edward Ashraf Banayoti" on a Google search. — crh 23 (Talk) 10:58, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- Note that Princess Aisha bint Hussein has attracted some odd IP activity over the past week (and has been protected as a result), including the unsourced claim that she married "Ed A. Hi, Can anybody check and review this article Rina Charaniya. This is article about aspiring actress with no references, no media coverage found on Google, no references given to support the claim made in article. It fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines.PK4JAGGU (talk) 11:36, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
- The article has been tagged for proposed deletion of an unsourced BLP. If no references are added within seven days, it will be deleted. If references are added within seven days, the BLPPROD tag will be removed, but the article can then be nominated for deletion. Asking for advice about it here was a reasonable approach. Help with correcting a page[edit]
Good Morning, I work for the Texas Historical Commission, the state agency for historic preservation in Texas. We oversee 21 State Historic sites and I noticed one of our sites has an incorrect title. It should say The Fulton Mansion State Historic Site, NOT George W. Fulton Mansion. How can I change this? - The title of a Wikipedia article is not decided by what its subject's owner wants it to be called, but by what it is usually called in published works about it, such as those cited in the article. This article only cites one reference, the National Register of Historic Places, which calls it "Fulton, George W., Mansion". So the name should not be changed. However I see that while I was typing this, David_in_DC changed it anyway. Maproom (talk) 17:36, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Possible unfree image[edit]
Hi, I'm a long-time editor but have never dealt with a possible unfree image before. I tried to list this at Files for Discussion but botched things quite badly and self-reverted. Here's the issue: About 1 month ago an image was uploaded onto the Commons and then added to the Tempest Storm article. It's [[File:Tempest Storm Backstage.jpg]]. The information the uploader provided seems contradictory. On the face of the image, it says "John E. Read HOLLYWOOD". In the description field, it says "Backstage at the El Ray theatre. (Photo from private collection of Tempest Storm)." In the source field, it says "Own work". In the author field, it says "Mratz". It's not at all clear if the owner is John Reed, Mr. Ratz or maybe even Ms. Storm herself. Help!. Thanks. David in DC (talk) 16:26, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

- It's likely just a spammer trying to use Wikipedia as "proof" the he might supposedly be someone trustworthy. As you know, that wouldn't be the case. Not much we can really do here, but good to know such a scam exists. --allthefoxes (Talk) 20:47, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
