Possible to find a dead link

A link I used for an article Anthony Hudson is now dead (see[1]), I tried to see if I could use internet archive to find an archive copy of the link to still use but it appears that the newspaper it is from doesn't allow its stories to be achieved. Is there any other way to find the page? Just it was used a few times as a reference on the article. NZ Footballs Conscience^(talk) 01:00, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

I found an archived version at http://www.ukpressonline.co.uk/ukpressonline/?sf=express by searching on the date 30/03/2011 and clicking forward to page 74 from that day. But without paying for a subscription I can only make out the headline in a small image of the page. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:45, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Tracking category question

I have created a tracking category called Category:Pages using ordination template and denomination parameter, which includes pages that are using denomination in Template:Ordination. I am trying to have it capture only articles/pages in the mainspace by using {{Main other}}. However, the category currently includes non-mainspace pages, such as Template:Ordination/doc. Does anyone know what went wrong? Ergo Sum 01:41, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Template:Ordination/doc was added before [2]. After that edit it required a null edit to update and remove the page right away. It would eventually have happened by itself but category updates after template edits can take a long time. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:49, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

DACA

I was very shocked and surprised to see that the page had been blocked from editing to prevent vandalism. Are you kidding?? I use Wikipedia for research purposes, there is no bias left or right for the most part especially when it comes to a mainstream topic. This page has specifically been blocked from editing in what appears to be an attempt to have something protected by fact checkers. An excerpt reads something to the extent that every study has found that dreamers are helping our economy and have no negative impact. The fact that there is 5+ links to "sources" after that statement is an obvious attempt to make a controversial political point. Please unlock this page immediately or have the community of admins review it unbiasedly. It would be a gross disservice to the millions of people around the world utilizing this amazing forum to share knowledge. cross wiki spam cleanup?

As can be seen at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Operahome/Archive, Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion/Archive_127#Igor Janev and m:Stewards' noticeboard/Archives/2013-08#Igor Janev, spam from the Igor Janev spammer has been deleted on multiple wikis. But https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1449737#sitelinks-wikipedia and the Global file usage at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Makedonska_opozicija_Igor_Janev.jpg indicate that it still exists on other wikis. Is there some way that someone can look into the articles on Igor Janev on all wikis in all languages, evaluate whether they are the work of the Igor Janev spammer, and delete as appropriate? I hate to see a spammer/troll avoiding WP:DENY, but I also have no idea which articles are spam, because I can't read the languages. Formatting of actuarial notation

I'm looking to improve the formatting of actuarial notation on Wikipedia. The most important bit that is missing from the site's capabilities is the angle notation used to denote a period of years (but there are other features of the notation which are also difficult to implement). In the example image to the right, it's the angle over the 'n' that is marked as '3'.

Our current workaround is to use a separate horizontal and vertical line, thus: $A_{x:{\begin{smallmatrix}\hline ~n|\end{smallmatrix}}}$. But it's a poor workaround, as you can see.

Table formatting is another solution and looks better:

2	A	1
m|		x	:n

. But again this is not ideal as it is inconsistent with other maths formatting, makes line heights taller than they need to be, and requires that the entire containing paragraph is formatted as in-line to prevent the table block forcing line breaks.

Happily there is a TeX extension that provides all the required functionality for actuarial notation: actuarialsymbol. Where is the best place for me to request that this be added to the Wikipedia installation?

• @Helio: You could try asking at WP:VPT to install that package. Honestly I wouldn't hold my breath, but who knows.

How do i create my page ?

Please guide me, I am a media professional. I have made a page last year on Wikipedia so that anyone can see my profile and learn about me. If you want to make your "own page" to promote yourself, you should use some other site such as Facebook. Wikipedia should not be used for promotion. Maproom (talk) 13:45, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Recovering dead links

Dear editors: I frequently find a dead link which has been recovered via the Wayback Machine or other web archive, but the the web page is available on the original but reorganized website at a different URL. If I replace the dead URL with the updated one, should I then delete the archive link, or should it be kept in case the link goes dead again in the future?—Anne Delong (talk) 13:00, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Photo is wrong

Good morning,

I am not sure who to contact about the photo of the wrong actor. Who makes the changes/edits. I typed in Dionne Warwick, she has been married twice to the same man. When you click on the link for his photo, the actor Keith David's photo appears. This is not her husband. It a different actor all together.

Our article Dionne Warwick has no photos of men. It says "Spouse(s) William Elliott" but that article has no photo at all.

Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. How to replace a photo

The photo on this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucian_Niemeyer) is not Mr. Niemeyer's official photo. How do I replace it with the correct one?214.18.133.42 (talk) 15:14, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

The current image used in the Lucian Niemeyer article seems to suggest that it is the official image: file:Lucian Niemeyer official photo.jpg - a search on Commons returns the same image, and one that's been cropped - but is still the same image. Chaheel Riens (talk) 15:18, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

(edit conflict) The photo at Lucian Niemeyer looks pretty good to me. If you have an alternative picture which you would like considered, and you own the copyright to it (or it's in the public domain), you can upload it to Wikimedia Commons, and then write on the article's talk page, suggesting that it be used instead. Then other editors will decide on which image better suits Wikipedia's purposes. You should not make the replacement yourself if you are connected with Niemeyer, as you have a conflict of interest. I have reinstated the photo, which the IP had deleted, on the article page. I agree with Maproom it looks good to me - and we are under no obligation whatsoever to use an "official" photo in any case. - Arjayay (talk) 15:47, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

The two photographs are remarkably similar. My suspicion is that the one removed from the article and restored by Arjayay is the original, and the one prefered by the IP user is a photoshopped version of it, with his hair darkened and his mouth closed. We should retain the unphotoshopped version, as a genuine image. Maproom (talk) 16:00, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

I think there is something in this claim by the OP, but I'm not sure what. A google image search for "Lucian Niemeyer" brings back many images, some of which match each image discussed here. I do not know anything about Niemeyer myself, but I wonder if he's put some weight on in recent years, and somebody has tried to take this into account by photoshopping two images of him together?

Here's a flickr image that claims to have Lucian Niemeyer in shot, and it's the hairstyle as seen in one of the images but not the face - and yet here is another image of the gent - the same picture as the "official" one but missing the flag in the background.

Additionally, I now notice that the images description for the "official" commons image says: "Thomas Goffus, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe & NATO, poses for his official portrait in the Army portrait studio at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, May 19, 2017. (U.S. Army photo by William Pratt)"

Image data seems to have been taken from this file here: Thomas Goffus bio at U.S. Department of Defense - but the background flag doesn't match the one in the Niemeyer image.

This presumably refers to the article Pictures at an Exhibition, Section 6.2 Arrangements for concert band. @Robert Hindsley:, while I have no real doubt that what you say is true, we would prefer to cite this to a Wikipedia:Reliable source so that readers can check it for themselves (the whole of Section 6 is sadly deficient in citations). If I want to post a CV of one author, can I add about him? then how can you check the information about him, he has certificates and other stuffs to prove, then I heard that there are some editors who are trusted to wikipedia, who can receive the information about this author and check behind him then post his CV or an article about him on wikipedia.

I'm afraid you've been misinformed, Mohammed. Wikipedia does not host CVs, profiles, or any other means by which a person, a business, or an organisation wishes to promote itself. What it contains are encyclopaedic articles about notable subjects. If several people who have no connection whatever with the author have chosen to publish in-depth pieces about him, in reliable places (that have a reputation for fact-checking and editorial control) then there can be an article about him, based almost 100% on what those independent writers have said. If several such sources do not exist, then in Wikipedia's terms the author is not notable, and no article on him will be accepted, however it is written. What the author has said, done, or published, is of almost no relevance to Wikipedia except insofar as somebody independent has written about it; and how the author wishes to be presented is of absolutely no relevance to Wikipedia. Hello. I am new to Wikipedia and have attempted to add Userboxes onto my page and the Userboxes are showing but next to them it shows all the codes. Could someone please tell me how to remove them? Deleting image?

I messed up uploading a new logo for the Oakland Raiders and got a message. I don't want to get in trouble and I would like to delete it. HELP!?
