Talk page of redirect[edit]

Earlier this month, a user (who is blocked at the moment) turned the long-term redirect Holy Valley into a disambiguation page. I disagreed that the dab page was needed, and we ended up having a short discussion on Talk:Holy Valley. Now Holy Valley is a redirect again (to Kadisha Valley), but what can be done about the talk page? It would normally redirect to the talk page of the target, but this one has the discussion on it now. I thought of merging it into Talk:Kadisha Valley, but it wouldn’t make sense there because it’s about a different page name completely. Any ideas?

Move it anyway and precede it with a blurb explaining basically what you explained above? --Guy Macon (talk) 02:33, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You mean in the edit summary? I wouldn’t be moving the page; I’d be blanking it to make the redirect. I guess it would still be in the history, at that. — Gorthian (talk) 02:44, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cut the discussion from Talk:Holy Valley, leaving the talk page blank.
Paste the discussion to Talk:Kadisha Valley in a new section.
Below the section title (the title of the new section you just created at Talk:Kadisha Valley) but above the material you just pasted, write
"This was originally at Talk:Holy Valley, back when Talk:Holy Valley was an article. Talk:Holy Valley is now a redirect to Talk:Kadisha Valley, so I have moved the following material here"
and sign it.
I would use the following edit summaries:
"Moving material from Talk:Holy Valley to Talk:Kadisha Valley; CUT."
"Moving material from Talk:Holy Valley to Talk:Kadisha Valley; PASTE."

Contributing[edit]

I will never again contribute to this organization again due to your censorship of conservative content. It was once called values and ethics somehow it got renamed and labeled as hate speech. Unethically ran by people with questionable values. Very un-American — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.209.166.184 (talk) 03:12, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain what you are upset about? --Orange Mike | Talk 03:39, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, given the global nature of the project a claim of being "Un-American" is not necessarily a bad thing. Chaheel Riens (talk) 11:14, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Would you please elaborate? Are you referring to a specific Wikipedia page?
Ad hominem aside, I am taking your comment seriously. Neuralnewt (talk) 22:29, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My page was deleted?[edit]

Hello my name is Luke, I was just wondering if anyone could help me understand why my wiki page was deleted? I didn't create the page myself, it was made by someone (perhaps a fan?) back in the late nineties or early 00's and in doing searches, I've not been able to find out who did create it. I've been an actor for over thirty years and have quite a few credits. I was the lead performer in studio films back in the mid-nineties but I've been working (albeit more sparsely than I'd prefer, it's a really hard business!) pretty consistently ever since. Just not sure why after all this time my wiki page would be deleted? Kinda feel like I just got punched in the stomach. Am I no longer relevant enough to justify the space? That's awfully harsh if that's the case. I'm actually a big fan of wikipedia! Anyway, if anyone who knows how to use this website better can offer help it would be greatly appreciated. Here's my imdb page for reference: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0250180/

Thank You

Primniple (talk) 03:27, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing you are (or claim to be) Luke Edwards. This article (it was never your wiki page, it was an article about you in Wikipedia) was deleted after this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luke Edwards. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:43, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Primniple: In addition to Orangemike's reply, I would like to state that all Wikipedia content is edited collaboratively. No one, no matter how skilled, or how high-standing in the community, has the right to act as though they are the owner of a particular page. Also, a person or an organization that is the subject of an article does not own the article, and has no right to dictate what the article may say. See WP:OWN. how do I rectify the year of birth which is incorrectly shown as 1919. Actual year of birth was 1918, and the musical fraternity in Mumbai has just celebrated Jaidevji's 100th Birth Anniversary[edit]

year of birth is incorrectly shown as 1919 and should as 1918 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robin Varma (talkcontribs) 10:32, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Which article are you referring to? Your edit history is of no help as you've only made two edits - both to this page. Changes need to be sourced, especially for biographical articles. Chaheel Riens (talk) 11:13, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Robin Varma, Jaidev now corrected to YOB 1918 with two book sources, thanks for making us aware of the error. Sam Sailor 11:15, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Where to request local IP block exemption[edit]

I would like to request a local IP block exemption so I can edit articles without having to disconnect from my VPN for privacy reasons. I have a global IP block exemption, but it seems that some IP addresses of my VPN provider are blocked locally. Could someone explain to me where I can request a local IP block exemption? --Hmxhmx 12:51, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmxhmx: Click here and see how. Regards —AE (talkcontributions) 13:12, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Abelmoschus Esculentus: Thanks! So I need to contact the functionaries (i.e. send an email to functionaries-en@lists.wikimedia.org)? --Hmxhmx 13:39, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Hmxhmx: If you plan to edit using your account right now, you should request IP address block exemption through the Unblock Ticket Request System. You must ask from your registered account. Requests posted to the user talk page of the IP address will be automatically declined. Administrators granting this right may sometimes need to consult a CheckUser to confirm the problem, or may wish to obtain further review by posting the request onto an administrative list or page for discussion if unfamiliar with the case.. If you plan to edit anonymously (proxy), you should email the functionaries team or contact a CheckUser directly, explaining why you need to edit via anonymous proxies. Administrators who are contacted through other means may need to consult a checkuser to confirm the problem. —AE (talkcontributions) 13:42, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Abelmoschus Esculentus: Oh okay, thanks again! That's what I was unsure about. --Hmxhmx 13:45, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Hmxhmx: Well I think the instructions are not difficult to understand... —AE (talkcontributions) 13:47, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit Special:Statistics[edit]

I would like to update some of the links at the bottom of Special:Statistics, but there is no edit link. Special:BookSources has an associated editable page at Wikipedia:Book sources, but Wikipedia:Statistics seems unrelated. Any ideas on where to edit this? Daask (talk) 14:04, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Daask: Help:Special page#Modifying special pages —AE (talkcontributions) 14:16, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Daask, I think the text you're looking for in this particular case would be located at MediaWiki:Statistics-footer. Non-admins can't actually edit the page, because it's part of the interface, but you can make an edit request for any uncontroversial change that you think needs to be made. Hope this helps.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:51, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done Thanks. Will do. Daask (talk) 14:56, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Daask: For another time, add ?uselang=qqx or &uselang=qqx to the url to see the name of used interface messages. The bottom of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Statistics?uselang=qqx says "(statistics-footer)". This means MediaWiki:statistics-footer is displayed. Copyright violations of tables?[edit]

Where would be the best place to discuss whether copying a table of information would be a copyright violation? The table in question consists of chapter name, school, city/state,chartering date and inactive date for the chapters of an honor society. An administrator G12'ed the page based on this table being a copyvio. I'd prefer to discuss this with neutral parties before challenging. (http://gammasigmaepsilon.org/chap_hist.htm) Naraht (talk) 15:22, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is this about Gamma Sigma Epsilon? It looks like User:RHaworth was the deleting admin, I would ask him. shoy (reactions) 19:58, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Given that the reason for the deletion was a G12 for that information, he has made his decision that it is. I'm looking for other opinions to determine if I should challenge him on this.Naraht (talk) 20:13, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I’m unclear on why you would challenge this. Are you asserting that it is not a copyvio? Beeblebrox (talk) 00:59, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Beeblebox , yes, that is my intentions, as Arch dude indicated. It *is* a copy of the information, but it does not reach the threshold level of creativity that makes it copyrightable. (Thank you to Arch dude for stating this.)Naraht (talk) 15:08, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Consider discussing it on the deleting admin's talk page. I assume your position is that the table contains only facts and does not reach the threshold level of creativity that makes it copyrightable. Please assume good faith (WP:AGF): This is a discussion to reach consensus, not a "challenge". If the two of you cannot reach consensus, follow the dispute resolution process (WP:DISPUTE). -Arch dude (talk) 04:36, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, that is my contention.Naraht (talk) 08:43, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
