Copyright question[edit]

Sarah GM (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has been cutting and pasting copyrighted work from UNESCO into Wikipedia articles.

Examples:

  • [1]; see google search for "allowing users free connectivity to access specific content or applications for free"
  • [2]; see google search for "From 2012 through 2016 inclusive, UNESCO’s Director-General condemned"
  • [3]; see google search for "between 2012 and 2016, print newspaper circulation continued to fall in almost all regions"

  • Whether or not the resulting article meets our other guidlines is a separate issue, but if the result at a minimum a good starting point, then we can continue to improve it using our normal procedures. Article talk page - WikiProject tagging[edit]

Hi, Kim Chang-son article talk page was tagged as Talk:Kim Chang-son (athlete) - see here [5]. I change the WikiProject tags but the article talk page name remains unchanged. I found out that because I change the tags, it effect the Kim Chang-son (athlete) article talk page - in another word both Kim Chang-son(politician) and Kim Chang-son (athlete) share the same article talk page wikiproject tags. Please advise how to proceed as if I moved the politician article talk page name, I am not sure it will effect the athlete article talk page. Thanks in advance. You put edits on Talk:Kim Chang-son (athlete) which should have been on Talk:Kim Chang-son. You perhaps hadn't noticed the redirect. Hopefully I've corrected things now. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:01, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another set of eyes on Kursk State Medical University please?[edit]

A former disgruntled student of this medical school has stripped the article to nearly a stub (which we can look at later) and is now insisting on including criticisms that pertain to Russian schools in general (i.e. don't mention this one specifically) One of the refs supposedly did mention this school, now it is down, and I am being accused of paying the magazine off, and being offered money by the user to have it re-instated by this user!... along with WP:SYNTH to somehow discredit the university. The matter is now at ANI where it was perhaps doomed to end. Please don't be drawn into edit warring; always take the matter to talk pages then if necessary to other dispute resolution venues. Deleting common.css[edit]

I stopped using my common.css page some time ago but it is now just an empty, existent page in my userspace. How does one go about deleting the common.css page? I don't think speedy deletion tags like {{db-u1}} work here. Thanks. RAVENPVFF | talk ~ 09:38, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am lost.[edit]

Today, Wikipedia appears on my computer screen with a new format. I have no idea how to edit on it. There is a big bar across the top for searching, but I can't see my log-in page, the history tab, or an edit tab. I wanted to edit the article about the USS Nimitz's alleged encounter with a UFO because the article said, " A 2015 interview with Fravor in FighterSweep.com about the alleged encounter was featured on the 2005 PBS documentary Carrier.[2]" And this reads like time travel to me. @Kdammers: It's a new responsive design for the MonoBook skin. The text tabs are replaced by icons in some circumstances and there may be a "more" link. It's discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Change coming to MonoBook skin for mobile users. You can choose another skin at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering. @Kdammers: It has been reverted for now. I also saw it on my desktop if I zoomed or narrowed the window. I think the idea was that it should happen if the window has limited room for the page content, whether it's due to the screen size, window size or zooming. It was apparently meant to mainly happen for small devices but many annoyed desktop users reported it. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:31, 2 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Images I upload show a gray bar across the bottom[edit]

Hello! Some images I add to the page I'm creating are showing up with a gray bar across the bottom. I used Wikimedia commons to upload the original images. I added an example image to the right (One Energy's headquarters).

@Eileen at OE: Another user had the same problem at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 774#Help with photos and getting rid of "grey areas". Your uploads at commons:Special:ListFiles/Eileen at OE are cut off at exactly 5 MB = 5242880 bytes. I still don't know why it happens. Many others are uploading larger files. Can you upload versions below 5 MB instead? At commons:File:One Energy Wind for Industry .jpg#filehistory you had the 5 MB problem the first time but then uploaded the full 7.1 MB image. Did you change something like browser or Internet connection the second time, or was the only change that you used the link "Upload a new version of this file"? @Eileen at OE: I'll be interested in hearing the final resolution of this, but in the meantime you can try using the commons:Commons:CropTool to get rid of the gray bar, though that doesn't necessarily help you in uploading what should have been there. Odd page selected for my edit tutorial AND how/who flags articles?[edit]

I created an account today (last night). My edit tutorial page was British International School Hanoi. It appears to be an advertisement. The vast majority of citations go to the school's website itself, several other Nord Anglia Education websites, press releases and pages that let Nord Anglia promote itself. My understanding is that those types of shenanigans are not allowed. Who does the flagging? If it's any user, how is it done? Thanks for any help. And it often wastes time of editors who make a reply in one place without knowing about existing replies in the other place. Simple issues like this should rarely be posted in two places and if they are then one of them should refer posters to the other to keep the discussion in one place. See WP:CROSS-POST. Apologies to all, I noticed the HUGE link at the top of the page immediately after I creating this, so copied what I wrote here and posted it at the Teagarden. I will do better next time. And that edit that Monfster did was my first account before deciding on a new name both created yesterday-ish. I won’t be using it again.

I created the account and was immediately sent to that page. It was a tutorial on using the visual editor. At the top was a message explaining that the page was known to have several spelling and grammatical errors. Thank you for pointing out that method. It's not an alternate account. I have no plans to use it, they were created within minutes of each other. I had neglected to update my 1password login. As I said before. Unsourced statement categories[edit]

Hello. I just created the stub Shidong. I added some citation/verifiability templates, and the category that's showing up is Category:Articles with unsourced statements from June 2,018. I've tried using both {{subst}} and just writing out the date, and neither works. What's the issue here? – Julia (talk) 18:17, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Usage of the CN template places the article into Category:All articles with unsourced statements and Category:Articles with unsourced statements from June 2018 (example; past months are listed in Category:Articles with unsourced statements). @Lourdes: I'm not sure I fully understand–I used {{cn}} and the wrong category (Category:Articles with unsourced statements from June 2,018) showed up, when Category:Articles with unsourced statements from June 2018 is supposed to. There are a few other articles in dates with commas, but I can't find a common pattern (AnomieBOT added all of them, but this isn't happening on all of the pages it edits). Perhaps more serious than the comma is that the redlinked category is shown among article categories, not hidden categories. The mystery remains: Dated {{cn}} tag elsewhere in the article, no problem; dated {{cn}} tag in {{Infobox settlement}} in other articles, no problem. Re-insert the dated tag into any field of the infobox in this article, the problem returns: Noyster (talk), 19:19, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked at template doc. for 'cn', 'more citations needed' and 'infobox settlement'. Cannot see that there has been any recent disruptive changes. Also looked at Wikidata items. Mystery! Eagleash (talk) 19:35, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
{{Infobox settlement}} thinks that population_total can only be a number, and it tries to reformat the parameter value with "correct" commas. To add a {{citation needed}} after the number, it has to be placed in population_footnotes. -- John of Reading (talk) 19:38, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

fr:Category:French women classical violinists[edit]

Hello,

I created this category some days ago and a Wikipedian (out of good faith, I'm sure) modified it. I don't doubt he had good reasons to do so but now the violinists who belonged to this category seem to have vanished in the air. As far as I remember there were 112 names (or was it 122?) @LouisAlain: Redrose64 was right to remove Category:French women classical violinists from itself.[7] A category should not belong to itself. I can find no sign of other articles than Amanda Favier having been in the category. Maybe you are thinking of Category:French classical violinists which currently has 120 articles. I don't doubt Redrose64 was right to proceed the way he did but the category I created was meant to distinguish male (120 articles so far) (the one you link to Category:French classical violinists is devoted to male only) from female classical violinists (there were 112 as far as I can remember). Now the question remains: where have gone the articles devoted to French women classical violinists with the appropriate category? I spent several weeks on it. Indeed, for some unknown reason this Amanda Favier is left alone with the French women classical violinists. (I've just added Anne Gravoin). Where have all the others gone?

@LouisAlain: Category:French classical violinists has some women, e.g. Marie Cantagrill, Suzanne Chaigneau, Fanny Clamagirand, Claire Delbos from the start of the alphabet. I see you have changed your heading to say you created fr:Category:French women classical violinists.[8] That is a page at the French Wikipedia but it has never been created and you have not edited there since 2016. You created Category:French women classical violinists here at the English Wikipedia. It's possible to watch category membership. According to this, the only article to be removed from Category:French classical violinists in the past 30 days is Anne Gravoin whom you removed today [9]. No articles have been removed from Category:French women classical violinists‎, but I think the feature only works while the category exists and you created it 26 May. I have just proposed that this category be upmerged into Category:French classical violinists because such "asymmetric ghettoization" of female categories has been a source of considerable friction and even seriously adverse publicity in the past. Trying to find contribution list.[edit]

I am applying to be a sysop on Wikiquote, but someone there accused me of having "an extensive history of vandalism on Wikipedia". This is not true, and to prove it, I want to show my contribution history, but it turns up blank. Here is the link. Well, I'm seeing some contributions on that link, and many of them are you appealing unsuccessfully against your ban for vandalism imposed in October 2017, days after opening your account, that you have only recently been released from. Aside from the serious vandalism, you have a negligible editing history and edit count compared to the several years and many thousands that most Wikipedia Editors need before applying to be Admins, so I'd be appalled if you were made a sysop on Wikidata. Changing the logo of a company[edit]

Hello,

We've been trying to change the logo of a company "Arab Advisors Group" on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Advisors_Group but it's been a nightmare as there are a lotttttt of restrictions on who can change the logo and how to upload a new logo. To be honest, we couldn't understand it as it's a cumbersome process. And when I try to go to the organisation logo upload form, I receive an error saying that I'm not allowed to do so. It's really complicated.

Can you please tell me how to change the logo in a simple language?
