Zoomable maps

Hi folks, I wonder if it is possible to create a zoomable map if such a thing exists. I would like to use something like this: Template:Scotland Regions Labelled Map, so I can link all the bays in this article: List of bays of Scotland‎, but it would need to be a bigger map, a lot bigger. Bundling a series of references

I want to tidy up the long series of references in A Moon Shaped Pool after the sentence Several critics felt the lyrics were coloured by Yorke's recent separation from his partner of almost 25 years, Rachel Owen, noting that the backmasked vocals of "Daydreaming", when reversed, resemble the words "half of my life". I think we need the references, but having them all in the prose like that muddies up the page. Is it possible to bundle them into a single reference, or some equivalent way of tidying them? Cite error <ref> tag

Hi. Quick question: when you look at my sandbox page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:LoreMariano/sandbox, the text all looks fine in published form. In the actual article, under the classes and lectures heading, there is an cite error message under Lectures and classes. Can you fix/tell me why it's okay in one place and not in another? Thanks. I don't know why it's only appearing in one place, LoreMariano, but the problem is that you have an opening <ref> before "The Villager" followed by another opening <ref> at the end of the quotation. I suspect the latter should be a closing </ref>

As for why: I guess that the software makes extra checks for a published article compared to one in User space, though I didn't know this. I'm concerned why you are editing two separate copies of the text anyway: this is usually a bad idea. Even if you understand what you are doing with the two copies, other editors may not. --ColinFine (talk) 15:09, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

I don't recall having seen such a difference in behaviour previously, but this evening I've seen something similar in another case, where an error is reported in Sandra Eleta but not in User:Sienao21/sandbox, though the same error occurs in both. Wikitext mode?

I noticed there is a slightly different interface when I go to publish. There's a blue Publish button on the upper right and on clicking it you have the option of comparing against previous version, resume editing, or publishing. Is this a new interface that was rolled out for everyone or am I seeing it because I checked all the Beta options in preferences, including Wikitext mode? --Lore E. Using an image but editing the size and notingthat this has been done re - licensing.

I want to use an image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Retford_Town_Hall,_May_2012.JPG in a company blog. I DEFINITELY want to correctly attribute it.

I need to resize it to fit in an area, I note in the insrructions for using image, if I resize I must note that - somewhere.

If I want to put this html link information into the blog (From the Wikipedia image page) How would I note that I had to resize it?

Hello James. The first point to consider is that although I am assuming for the purposes of this reply that you, the person posting from 86.53.198.50, are indeed James Averdieck the subject of that article, we have at present no means of knowing this for certain, so we can't amend the article purely on the basis of this query. I'm sure that, on reflection. you'll understand this: Wikipedia has frequently to deal with 'bad actors' pretending to be subjects of articles and trying to introduce spurious and possibly injurious falsehoods into biographic and other articles, and we have especially rigorous rules about biographies of living people.

I notice that the statement in the article about your marital situation and area of residence is explicitly specified to be "as of 2010", and cited to 3 different Reliable sources, so it is technically accurate, and cannot be removed on the grounds of being uncited. We do not generally remove or block publicly published information about a subject, even at that subject's request, unless it is both irrelevant to the article's purpose and/or has the potential for harm. (For example, we would not usually carry information about a subject's minor children unless there were specific cause).

What can be done is to add information about your current situation. To do this we will require one or more further published reliable sources that refer to your current (or at least post-2010) residence in Wimbledon and your current (or at least post-2010) spouse's name. Articles in national or local newspapers or magazines that mention these facts (like those used as sources for the 2010 facts) would be suitable examples.

If you can suggest such sources on the Talk page of the article about you, then an editor can add the relevant facts to the Wikipedia article and cite them as required. Internet Archive link

The Internet Achive link at Martin Luther#External links returns 18 271 results. Adding |birth=1483|death=1546|sopt=t only reduces them to 18 265. Is there a way to reduce the results returned?

@Oxygene7-13: That talk page lists three projects that have an interest in that article. If you open a new section, folks from one or more of the projects might respond. List of association football players considered the greatest of all time

This page actually should go to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Society, sports, and culture but problem is way too complicated and require a lot of active users so I will start here for now, on the help desk page where is larger number of pagewatchers. As the number of edits/technical mistakes on this article is grow, the article seriously is going to be more difficult for correction; because of this list is structurally disorganised. If this page has more wrong constribs the article will need be described from start point ar reverted to nearly first version of the article. This article was several times reported by me and by @The Raincloud Kid: to admins (see: [1] [2]) but the replies there were usually in style: "I do not see any big problem at the moment, why do not discuss on the talk page"? This page is so often vandalising that it require better : #security, #more pagewatchers, #better control by people who ofted edit pages related with soccer. Despite this whole mess related with counts/number for experts, this list require guideline. I would suggest remove all experts who do not have an article on English Wikipedia (per WP:WTAF) and later add diagram (something like this one) to readers clearly see how many "old experts" consider Messi great of all time, how many "young experts" consider consider Pele or Maradaona as "greates of all time" and how look that ballance. Beyond that this page potentially qualifes to deletion due to fact we have plenty similar articles just as: UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll, FIFA Player of the Century, World Soccer Magazine etc. Interesing thing is also fact that article Comparison of top chess players throughout history has other structure but is not include to Template:Greatest sportspeople meanwhile List of ice hockey players considered the greatest of all time is included there. Wikipedia simply can't deal with issues of subjective nature, as we can't establish list of "fairest of them all": the "most beautiful woman on the world", the "wisest thinkers in history", etc. Encyclopaedia needs some point of reference, some sets of measurements, etc. You can compile a list based on some rewards, or something like that. Your reference 6 tries to use a reference with the code <ref name="undefined" />, but you have not defined the content of a reference with that name. In the error message the words "help page" are in blue, indicating that they are a wikilink to a specific help page on that type of error. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:12, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

help with a new article on the Coral Restoration

Hello,

I'm new to editing Wikipedia. I am a volunteer with the Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) in Key Largo, FL, and I plan to create a new Wiki article with CRF as the topic.

There are already mentions of CRF in lists within Wiki articles. Also, there are many articles covering corals, coral reefs, reef rehabilitation and restoration so the relevance of a specific CRF article should be apparent.

Could you suggest an experienced editor that would be interested in working with me to mentor me on this project? I already have a Wiki account and have drafted a stub CRF article.

@FLkeyseditor: Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for wanting to contribute. I removed the duplicate question. Since you are affiliated with this organization, you need to read WP:COI and WP:PAID. It is better if you work on articles not related to groups you are affiliated with, because it can be difficult to write neutrally otherwise. Hello, FLkeyseditor. Please understand that Wikipedia is not for telling the world about something, however laudable that thing may be. Telling the world about something is called promotion in Wikipedia-speak (not limited to commercial things), and is forbidden. Wikipedia is only interested in things that the world has already been told about, in the sense that several people unconnected with the subject have chosen to write at some length about it, and been published by reliable organs. If that is the case for your foundation, then we can have an article about it: as RudolfRed suggested, you are discouraged from creating such an article. Almost all of the information, and all of any judgment or evaluation, in such an article must come from sources unconnected with the organisation: Wikipedia has little interest in what any organisation (or any person) says about itself, and no interest at all in how a subject wishes to be presented. --ColinFine (talk) 00:09, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

I am not the final authority on this, but your claim that this name situation came about entirely by accident sounds incredible, don't you think? Do you have any conflict of interest? How do I Submit an Article for Publication?

I've written an article about a school at this link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:CLLCSchools However, I'm not sure whether it's been published or not. I don't believe so as it doesn't turn up in Wiki's search engine.

If it hasn't been how do I take the next step to publish it?

@CLLCSchools: Hello, there were multiple problems with the page you created, which has now been deleted. It was promotional, contained copyright violations and was without references. There also multiple manual of style issues. You will find several useful links at your talk page but these have now been 'overtaken by events'. If you are able to successfully appeal the block and resume editing, your username will need to be changed as Wikipedia does not allow shared or corporate use. If you intend to write about a subject with which you have a connection you also need to read WP:COI and / or WP:PAID and make the necessary disclosures. Wikipedia does not exist for entities to create listings or profiles about themselves in the manner of a directory or social media, but creates its entries by reporting on what has been written about the subject in independent secondary reliable sources. See WP:NOTABILITY for more information. Articles are typically written by editors without a connection to the subject. Pleae study the links and help pages before making further attempts. Thank you. After 2 days, page still showing incoming links via template that it was removed from

Hi, following a move, I removed Cyprus crisis (1955–64) from Template:Middle East conflicts, but its Special:WhatLinksHere/Cyprus_crisis_(1955–64) still shows incoming links from all articles that contain that template. I know it can take some time to update, but it's been two days now. I successfully removed it from some other templates, which updated in a few minutes, so it's just this one. Anyone know what's going on here, what am I missing? --IamNotU (talk) 20:19, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

It sometimes takes days or longer to update link tables when a template is edited. Years ago it could take months. A new edit to the template may force a faster update but I see no need. The article pages have been updated to show the current version of the template. If you want to clean up old links then the search linksto:"Cyprus crisis (1955–64)" insource:"Cyprus crisis (1955–64)" finds no articles linking to Cyprus crisis (1955–64) in their own source. Thanks PrimeHunter - I did clean up the old links, using your helpful "Source links" script. It's just that I've put the redirect up for deletion (Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2019 March 11#Cypriot conflict (1955–64)) so it might make it a bit confusing for people to comment on it if it still has all these incoming article links. I did a null edit to both the template and the redirect page, but no effect. The other templates I removed it from were updated in about half an hour, so it seems odd that this one is taking so much longer. I thought maybe I was missing some deep recursive link or something... out, damned spot! --IamNotU (talk) 01:09, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Pppery, I also removed it from Template:Cold War, which has more incoming links (around 600) than Template:Middle East conflicts (less than 150), and it only took a short time to update. So in this case, it's not a matter of - or at least, not proportional to - how much usage there is. Neither seems to be "high use" as described there as "~200,000". Also, null edits have had no effect. Not sure then if it's really the same bug or not... --IamNotU (talk) 02:48, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

Cookies

In my browser, I whitelist wikipedia and other WMF-related sites and block cookies from all non-whitelisted sites. But when I try to use the "Logon using Wikipedia" button on https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org or https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org, the OAuth process fails, which I believe is because there is an additional cookie-depositing site involved in the OAuth login process that I also need to whitelist.
