Joseph Bankman, aka Daniel Treccia[edit]

I tried to fix apparent vandalism at Joseph Bankman, redirected to Daniel Treccia. I didn't do it right. YoPienso (talk) 00:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yopienso. The page was moved from "Joseph Bankman" to "Daniel Treccia" a few days ago with this edit. The page move may have been improper, but it was a WP:BOLD edit that's not necessarily vandalisim. If you disagree with the move, you can revert it back to the original title as explained in WP:UNDOMOVE, WP:RMUM and WP:PCM and request that a more formal discussion take place on the article's talk. The page move was also incorrectly marked a a WP:MINOR edit, but that's not necessarily a good reason for undoing the move. What's more of a problem is that the move doesn't seem to have been discussed by the mover and you and at least one other person are disagreeing with it and whether the move is justified per WP:COMMONNAME probably needs to be discussed further. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:54, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. WP:UNDOMOVE says that after the redirect's been edited, only an admin can fix it.
The reason I think this is vandalism is because my googling showed up zero returns for Joseph Bankman being better known--or even known at all--as Daniel Treccia. And names in links have been changed, but the sources they go to say nothing of any Daniel Treccia.
Somebody with more expertise and privileges than I, please fix this problem. Thank you. YoPienso (talk) 01:01, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is pretty obvious vandalism. YoPienso (talk) 01:13, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Having an article proposed for deletion isn't necessarily "pretty obvious" vandalism; it could've been just been a good-faith attempt to create an article about someone named "Dan Treccia" by someone who's not familiar with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Maybe it would be better stop worrying about whether this is vandalism and instead try and figure out how to move the page back. PrimeHunter seems to be the last administrator who posted here at the Help Desk; perhaps, they can help sort this out, -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:22, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I've contacted PrimeHunter; thank you for the lead. YoPienso (talk) 01:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved Daniel Treccia back to Joseph Bankman without leaving a redirect. The names appear unrelated. PrimeHunter (talk) 01:55, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking care of this PrimeHunter. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:58, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks. YoPienso (talk) 02:39, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to remove Special:Homepage thing[edit]

When I click on my username on the bar at the top, it takes me to this Special:Homepage thing. Is there any way to remove that? Mucube (talk) 02:04, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disable "Default to newcomer homepage from username link in personal tools" at the bottom of Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-personal * Pppery * it has begun... 02:09, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mucube: If you also want to remove the "Homepage" tab on your userpage then disable "Display newcomer homepage". PrimeHunter (talk) 02:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Mucube (talk) 02:33, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mailing Address[edit]

You want Donations, but have NO Mailing Address, Duh.

I've been Data Breached 6X, Phished 13X and Hacked 2X! Some personal data breaches were at Banks, Gov't and major Corporations.

Wikipedia needs to have concern for the safety of personal information. This Cannot be done On-line. If I can't mail a cheque, I'm not donating anything. Others likely feel the same. 69.159.79.129 (talk) 06:12, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's not much anyone here the Help Desk can do to "fix" such a thing. You can try the email address given at Wikipedia:Contact us/Donors to express your dissastifaction with the way donations are accepted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:20, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mailing address here - X201 (talk) 08:58, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is a mailing address where you can send a check or money order, if that's what you want to do. Note that the Wikimedia Foundation has a lot of cash on hand, and it's not about to go broke. But see https://donate.wikimedia.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give#Checks_&_money_orders_(via_mail) David10244 (talk) 09:06, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alignment in a table[edit]

I have a table in my sandbox with 9 columns. preferably, the first two columns should left aligned, and the remainder centre aligned, but I can't find any simple way of doing this. the help page for tables seems to be saying that this is done on an individual cell level, which, for a table that will eventually have 1400 cells in it seems a tad excessive. is there a simpler way to do this? Cottonshirtτ 06:18, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Cottonshirt: Code in each cell is indeed the usual way, also when it seems excessive. There are alternatives but they require templates and are often not worth the trouble. I have started a discussion about a possible new method: Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Column alignment. It's not ready for use but maybe later. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:08, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for your reply. I found a solution that is simpler than having code in each cell. I divided it into two tables, side by side. the left two columns form one table with the default left-align, and the other table has the remaining fields with the global attribute centre-align. this makes it a little less intuitive when entering data into the table but it's a lot simpler than the alternative. thank you. Cottonshirtτ Cottonshirtτ 20:17, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cottonshirt: User:Cottonshirt/sandbox#Annual and cumulative scores is a very poor solution. Don't do that in articles. The second table is shown below the first on narrow screens. There are ways to avoid that but then the first table wraps some lines on narrow screens and gets two-line rows out of sync with the second table. Editing the tables is very confusing, especially in VisualEditor, and they are awful for accessibility. Screen readers don't indicate a connection between rows which are displayed next to eachother in separate tables. I found the new {{Table alignment}}. You can use that if there are no colspan and rowspan. It will break down if you use rowspan on the venue column. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:19, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Cottonshirt: Look here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Table_alignment . I didn't know, but it looks like there is a way to align particular columns. Uporządnicki (talk) 22:20, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AzseicsoK thank you for your comment. I used the Table Alignment template you linked to, and that worked well. I'm glad I asked before there were too many rows in the table because moving back from two tables to one was a dog, but it will be a lot simpler to add new rows in future and it eliminates all those scary consequences that @PrimeHunter mentioned. thank you both for your help. Dangerous link[edit]

I was looking through a page and clicked a link to see a photo of The Pearce Ferry Airport in Arizona, The link is connected to a site containing illegal pornography and not the aerial photo from 1994. Can this be removed from that page? Bishop of the Road (talk) 07:03, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bishop of the Road. External links added to articles need to comply with Wikipedia:External links; so, if you feel the link in question is of a type mentioned in WP:ELNO, then yes you may remove it. Just leave an WP:EDITSUMMARY explaining why so that others know why it was removed. Sometimes, however, external links get overwritten or otherwise become tken over by someone else as explained in WP:ELDEAD. In such a case, if you can find an archived version of the original link, then perhaps that could replace the current link. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:10, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Bishop of the Road. I see that you removed a link but when I try to look at that link in the edit history, I do not see any porn, illegal or otherwise. So, I am not sure what you saw that I am not seeing. What I will say is that you should feel free to remove porn links from any article that is not about a sexually explicit topic. Cullen328 (talk) 07:18, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Bishop of the Road Based on what you said, and what Cullen sees, before you remove any links that show up as porn for you, maybe you should test them on another computer (or mobile device?), and make sure your devices don't have any viruses. Viruses can hijack clicked links and redirect them.. David10244 (talk) 09:13, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information regarding to create a wiki page for Urban Management[edit]

I have created a wiki page for Urban Management (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Urban_Management) on 16.11.22. But till now the status of the page is showing as draft. Kindly look into the matter and help us for the same. SHS-XIM (talk) 07:16, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, SHS-XIM. If you want your draft to be reviewed, then you need to submit your draft for review though the Articles for Creation process. In general, nobody will pay any attention to a draft which has not been submitted for review. Maybe somebody will take a look now that you have mentioned it here at the Teahouse, but that is highly unlikely to be a formal review. Be sure that your draft fully complies with Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines, and when you are confident that it does, submit it. Cullen328 (talk) 07:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
SHS-XIM Hello and welcome. I have added the information to allow you to submit your draft for review. You say "us" above- who is "us"? 331dot (talk) 07:39, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a wiki page for MarketTime[edit]

I would like to create a page for the following company: https://markettime.com/ I believe the company satisfies the criteria - how do I go about Wikipedia's processes? 47.187.221.33 (talk) 08:16, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has articles, not pages. This is an important distinction. Creating a new article is the most challenging task to attempt on Wikipedia. Please read Your First Article and visit Articles for Creation. You will need to gather independent reliable sources with significant coverage of this company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. "Significant coverage" does not include things like press releases, announcements of routine business activities like the raising of capital or releases of a product, interviews with staff, the company website, or other primary sources. Any article you draft must summarize these sources.
If you are associated with this company, please read WP:COI and WP:PAID for information on required formal disclosures. 331dot (talk) 08:21, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot I hate seeing those drafts that primarily consist of information about fundraising rounds. Encyclopedias don't include that! David10244 (talk) 05:26, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I will add that there are Wikipedias in hundreds of languages; so if (as I deduce) English is not your native language, your greatest potential for contribution to this project might be to become an editor in your own native tongue rather than here in English. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:35, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

image links[edit]

how do i make an image link to something other than the image (this is, of course, on my userpage)? thanks in advance 2006toyotacorrola (talk) 13:46, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@2006toyotacorrola, does Help:Pictures#Links cover what you're looking for? 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:57, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To explain it directly, you just add a colon (:) in front of the word "File:" when linking it. So for example in order to get [[File:Example.jpg]] to display as a link instead of an image, you would type [[:File:Example.jpg]]. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:59, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You might’ve misunderstood. I meant when i click on the image, it displays another page, rathwe than media viewer, but thanks for that anyways. 2006toyotacorrola (talk) 18:01, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to discuss a redirect page that redirects to protected article? 99.209.40.250 (talk) 13:50, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why not discuss it at the place you linked? Were you told that it's not the appropriate place? 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:17, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The target page is not edited when you nominate a redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. You only need help if the redirect page is protected. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:49, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to add Naija details[edit]

Naija Crawl is a website where naija songs, hip-hop and all kinds of songs can be downloaded. How can its info added on wikipedia? Andresupchurch (talk) 14:11, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

By reviewing WP:NWEBSITE and Help:Your first article, then, if the criteria are met, writing and submitting an article. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:11, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a wiki article for a company[edit]

Hey guys,

I want to write a wikipedia page for the company I work at. Yes, I'm fully aware that it's incredibly discouraged, and that there's a conflict of interest, but I will disclose it, and I'll be as objective as possible.

A bit of background: the company's website is enfineo.com. The product (to be released end of 2023) is going to be a platform similar to Revolut. The company itself is called Degethal, while the product is called enfineo (yes, with a lowercase "e"). We've had appearences in national media: Forbes Romania, Start-up.ro, Wall-Street.ro, so notability wise, I believe we're good. We've also appeared in some international blogs.

There's some problems which I don't know how to approach:

  1. Should I write in the english wikipedia, or the romanian one? The company will serve an international market, but secondary research in english is very limited (for now).
  2. Should I create 2 distinct pages for the company & the product? Or should I create one for the company, with the product (enfineo) presented there under a heading?
  3. Can I use public information (databases) as sources? (in Romania, some data regarding all LLC's is public; can I use a site which shows such data as source?)

Radu Condor (talk) 14:13, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Forgot to mention, but thank you to everybody answering! Radu Condor (talk) 14:15, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Radu Condor, as you are paid by the company for creating the article, you must disclose on your user page, WP:PAID.
  1. I would recommend the Romanian Wikipedia simply because it *probably* has more relaxed guidelines for notability. If it is successful there, then you can attempt to create the article here.
  2. It depends on which is more notable. If the news sources talk about the company, then create an article on the company. If the news sources talk about the product, then create an article on the product.
  3. Yes, these can be sources, but they do not count for notability.
Be careful when you say either topic is notable. Some Forbes articles are written by contributors and not Forbes, which would not count for notability. Blogs are self-published and do not count either. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:40, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Enquiry[edit]

Dear Sir/ Madam My name is David Kobina Andoh, a Ghanaian and President of the Ghana Photojournalists Network and staff myjoyonline.com . Please I want to find out the procedure you use to publish biographies of high profile personalities. I want my biography to be published on Wikipedia. 197.159.137.97 (talk) 14:45, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The notability criteria for biographies are at WP:NBIO. Advice against autobiography is at WP:Autobiography, which in turn links to An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. - David Biddulph (talk) 14:49, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

archiving at Talk:Asian people[edit]

Can someone fix the archiving at this article talk? I'm too stupid to do anything but set up archives from scratch, and there's already one there that's probably already long enough. Valereee (talk) 17:25, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Valereee: I'm confused. What's the issue? There's currently no arching set up. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:41, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The existing archive 1 was created manually. I've added automatic archiving with default values, and it should follow on from the existing archive when the bot runs. - David Biddulph (talk) 17:58, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @David Biddulph, so if I'd inserted {{subst:Setup cluebot archiving|archives=yes}} in this situation, would that work? If it were more than a single existing manual archive, would it work?
@Blaze Wolf, the issue (for me) is that if I set up archiving where there's already been manual archiving, I'm afraid I'll confuse the bot. I've tried to much about with this situation before and I tend to break stuff. I created Help:Archiving (plain and simple) because Help:Archiving talk pages was too much for me to figure out. Valereee (talk) 19:08, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No actually. The bot will see that there is an archive and will archive to that archive until it hits the size that you set. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:16, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Valereee (talk) 19:24, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong link in article[edit]
