I cannot publish a page that I have edited[edit]

Hi, I am a student editor for Fall 2023, Adv Mol Bio course FSU, I have edited my assigned page but I cannot publish the change, every time I hit the publish button, this msg pops up, "No stashed content found for 0/ec502532-92e2-11ee-b91c-1f30e6a8b946" How can I make it work? @CryingEM The Help desk archives have several threads about this. One recent advice was ... it is possible to "salvage" draft changes if the editor software has lost its cache (the "No stashed content found for [hex code string]" error). I did this by opening a new browser tab, navigating to the Wikipedia page I was editing, activating the editor again, and copying all my edits from the first editor window to the new one. This can be time-consuming, but I found that clicking the "Review your changes" button in the "Publish changes..." window in the first editor window helps to find all the edits made. Note that the editor you open in a new tab needs to be the same type (Visual Editor or source code editor) that you were using before the cache was lost. The issue seems to occur when you leave the editing window open for too long. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:25, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What's the policy when a song title uses non-standard capitalization and punctuation?[edit]

There's a rather naughty song by the band Berlin from the early 1980s, for which the title given is Sex (I'm A...), as can be seen here. This does not comply with Wikipedia's manual of style, but who's to say that wasn't a deliberate artistic decision by the band? Mudwater wants to change the title to Sex (I'm a ...), but my position is we should retain the artist's original style. I couldn't find a clear policy on this in the MOS. It was certainly an artistic choice by the band, but it's an artistic choice of a kind that is reflected to many different degrees in many other places, such as company names. If every particular style was conformed to as originally presented, there would be a lot of genuine difficulty and confusion on an encyclopedia, and even more arguments regarding which forms are correct than there already are. So, generally there is a considerable narrowing of the possible capitalization presented in a title, with the original presentation not in itself overriding the Manual of Style. Generally, because it is important, the self-expressed style will be prominently placed at the top of the article so that people can see it. I hope that makes sense!

All that said, according to the corresponding part of the Manual of Style regarding titles of works, the original title is correct, in line with capitalizing of the final word in a title, even if it is normally not capitalized. Cheers! Remsense留 06:37, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That I am distinctly less sure about. If it were a sequence in the body of an article, because of the parentheses MOS:ELLIPSES says to use a non-breaking space before the ellipsis, and no space after it, but one cannot put a non-breaking space in an article title, so my gut is to follow the consensus of other titles, which all seem to have no spaces around the ellipses. If the ellipsis marks a partial word (e.g. Sex (I'm A[pathetic])), then a space before the ellipsis would be incorrect. If it marks a word missing after the indefinite article (e.g. Sex (I'm A [Professional])) then a space after the ellipsis would be reasonable. User script/way to find who wrote a sentence?[edit]

Say I want to find a contributor/list of contributors with this sentence from Sun: "In 1978, the abundances of singly ionized elements of the iron group were derived." How should I approach this topic?[edit]

I am considering writing an article about an individual who stands accused of selling poison to over 100 people who committed suicide with his product. He has not been convicted of any crime yet, and the suicides are inseparable from the alleged actions of the accused poison-seller, so there is no way to cover the string of deaths without also implying a crime. Could anyone give me advice on how to approach writing this article? Should we delay making this article until someone is convicted? Thanks, Bremps... 16:23, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bremps and TSventon: Since the person is deceased, it's no longer WP:BLPCRIME. It's just a single newsworthy subject. If it's notable (surely it is) then you may write the article. Are there sources that mention the source of the suicide tools in the form of the online storefront rather than its owner / operator? I think we can say something like "selling suicide supplies is considered illegal in Country Y under statute Z", and if the venue of sale is not under dispute, there may not be a need to link it to a living person who is facing prosecution in order to create an encyclopaedia article about the linked deaths. Revert spam[edit]

This user (User:Denise Henriques) got indefinitely blocked for spamming, all its ~300 edits were spam. Like 60% of the edits got reverted but there are still lots of them waiting to be reverted. Is there some way to mass revert them? Gor1995 (talk) 16:42, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

reverse copivio?[edit]

I recently started an overhaul of the Irony article, which has been sorely neglected in spite of getting about 7,000 hits daily. Among its major problems were lack of supporting citations for most of the central claims and the inclusion of a lot of original research. There did not, however, appear to be any particular slant to the article or POV-pushing.

On a lark, I ran a copivio check, which came back with a shocking 91% likelhood of violation[1] with a handout from an AP English course[2] at a girls' prep school.

However, manually digging back through the site history, I became increasingly convinced that it was the teacher who plagiarized Wikipedia by distributing the contents of an article without attribution.

Is there any automated way to confirm this? And, if I am correct, is there anything that ought to be done? Maybe someone sends him a note requesting attribution be added to the document or something like that?

Here[3] is his school profile, which includes an email.

Please advise.

My suggestion would be check when it was published (or failing that when it was first captured by the Wayback machine). From the document, that is 2019. Then see if the content up for debate was in the article before that was published. In the irony article, it seems to have had that content even then. So looks to be that it was plagiarism on their part. Not sure what to do about that. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:37, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@PatrickJWelsh: If you choose to contact the teacher or the school, please consider the possibility that the same individual created that PDF and also added the material to Wikipedia. If that happened, it's not a copyvio. I looked through a lot of the article history, and it seemed to come together organically over several years. Given the number of editors it has had, it's not plausible to me that somehow that much content in that form was somehow the work of a single editor.

Large-scale changes by one person generally jump out, even if they are implemented over several weeks. The article history was too long for me to review in its entirety, but I think I would have windowed in on that if it was what had happened.

Also, while a third source common to both is possible, it is quite strange that neither of them would cite it.

If there's no policy or governing precedent about this sort of thing, I'll just mull it over a bit longer. If I do contact him, I will make it clear that I speak only for myself, not Wikipedia.

Per discussion at BLP noticeboard, I am searching for a neutral infobox image for R. Kelly so that I can move the "mugshot" to the more appropriate No. 5 section. Although I've been at WP for some time now, I am terrible when it comes to finding fair use, non-copyright images for BLPs. Can someone perhaps assist in finding such an image for the subject? TYIA!
