Does TemplateData affect templates that call the primary template?

[edit]

Kind of a confusing title, but basically: I wanted to modify the TemplateData on Template:Infobox court case. There are some template parameters that aren't used in the main template, but are used by templates that call the same infobox (like Template:Infobox California Supreme Court case). If I edit the TemplateData on the main infobox template to add descriptions to a parameter or mark one as required/suggested/deprecated, will it also affect the TemplateData on the infoboxes that call it, or would it be handled independently because they're two separate templates? –Galactic-Radiance (talk) 02:40, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They need to be handled separately. VisualEditor doesn't know that the templates depend on each other and treats each as a black box. * Pppery * it has begun... 03:15, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know, thank you. I didn't want to mark a parameter as deprecated in the main template and then potentially have it show up incorrectly elsewhere. –Galactic-Radiance (talk) 05:16, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack from multiple people

[edit]

Hi. I'v been attacked my multiple WP-users, some even claiming that I'm a troll. (Please, if you are reading this, I need some help, I have no clue what's going on.) It seems like they think maybe that my account is stolen or something. Idk. I'm just speculating at this point. Anyone else there who is getting attacked by multiple Wikipedia users? Please, I need help! My articles are suddenly vanishing into draftspace. --Pek (talk) 17:13, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I'M BEING ATTACKED BY MULTIPLE USERS! They are deleting/redirecting everything I'v done!!! Please, if you are reading this, please help! (I think I'm having a panic attack.) --Pek (talk) 17:14, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is anyone else being attacked? Am I the only one? I NEED HELP! --Pek (talk) 17:16, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pek you keep on trying to create new articles. That's great, but you should consider starting with a draft, rather than in mainspace. Creating a new article directly in mainspace indicates that the article is already usable and somewhat encyclopedic. A draft indicates that you are still in the process of gathering references, etc.
I won't comment on your suspect personal attack. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 17:21, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Pek. You're not being attacked; this is nothing personal, though I understand why it feels that way. But several of your article creations are not sufficiently supported by reliable sources to prove notability or support their content, and other editors are noticing this and taking appropriate cleanup actions to deal with it. I definitely understand that it feels like you're being attacked, since multiple editors have all come down at once to look at some of your articles. But this isn't nefarious; you simply happened to add a link to a very heavily-monitored page, which many people looked at, followed, had doubts about, and looked to see whether the problem was more widespread (at least, that's what I'm guessing happened; I know that's how I came across your contributions). I'm sorry that all this is happening all at once, and I know that feels overwhelming, but the fact is that many of your articles simply don't have reliable sources that can be added, and Wikipedia articles that can't be supported by reliable sources need to be draftified/redirected/deleted. Languages list

[edit]

On top of each article there is place where you can click on to see the article in different languages (if available). Until recently that worked well, I clicked on it and a list of languages appeared from which I could choose. Today however, when I clicked on that language field (which said "116 languages", nothing happened, no list appeared. I haven't changed anything on my computer recently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.75.176.69 (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Could you please tell us the name of the article where you experienced this issue? GoingBatty (talk) 20:05, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. It was multiple articles, amongst them the articles on Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing and Bus Rapid Transit. I don't think it has anything to do with specific articles, but rather with the language list in every article. I've tried several pages to check. As mentioned, it worked well a few days ago (I don't remember exactly how long ago I last used that feature), but now when I click on it, nothing happens. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.74.29.243 (talk) 23:55, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I used my computer to visit the articles Xuanwu Lake, Nanjing and Bus rapid transit and see 11, 116, and 38 languages respectively. Maybe try another browser or incognito mode, or maybe just a refresh? GoingBatty (talk) 03:26, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It works on my phone (Firefox Android) and tablet (Google Chrome), but not on the desktop PC (Firefox Windows). I didn't want to install a new browser. What makes me wonder is that it has worked until maybe a few days ago, and now no longer does, despite I haven't changed anything on my computer. Have there been any changes made to that language box by Wikipedia that would need an update or adjustment to my browser? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.223.84.56 (talk) 15:32, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

how to creat an artical

[edit]

I am new to wikapidia I want to creat an artical but I don't know how. CREEPERFORGE09 (talk) 20:20, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's very challenging; it is highly recommended that you first edit existing articles, to learn how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content. Please also use the new user tutorial. You may create a draft using the Article Wizard. 331dot (talk) 20:34, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unviewble edits

[edit]

On this pages history, there were some reverted edits from 15th June, which can't be viewed, why? I thought logs were created so every version of the page could be viewed Crainsaw (talk) 22:10, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Crainsaw: Some deleted edits cannot be seen because their content violates a policy, such as copyright violation in this case. See WP:REVDEL for more information RudolfRed (talk) 22:18, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Search function

[edit]

I haven't been here for a while. Why can I not figure out how to look up a subject, I cant seem to find the window to type in my search? Thank Jnyork (talk) 22:31, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jnyork: The search box is now left-center at the top of the screen in the default skin. If your browser window is very narrow, it may simply appear as a magnifying glass icon. Is there something we are misunderstanding about your question? You have now asked this question three times and recieved the same response to each, here and here. If your question has been misinterpreted, could you clarify what you are trying to do? Thank you, Tollens (talk) 23:22, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving talk pages

[edit]

Hello. I am attempting to start to archive my talk page using the wikitext at User:MiszaBot/config (using the second example), and nothing happened. Cherrell410 (talk) 23:23, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Cherrell410: It will take a while on the first archive for the bot to notice you've added the template. It should work within a day or so, the same thing happened to me when I first added the archive template. Tollens (talk) 23:25, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Cherrell410 (talk) 23:26, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the bot archived 20 topics, but the interface for accessing this page isn't on my talk page. Cherrell410 (talk) 16:10, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cherrell410: That should be a separate template - see {{Archives}} for all the details. Tollens (talk) 21:51, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
