@TronPuzzle: The only absolute requirement for a Wikipedia article is that the subject be notable by our definition. See WP:NPERSON. If the subject is not notable, we will delete any attempt you make to create an article, wasting your time and ours. Really. See WP:AMOUNT. A casual search reveals that he is the 23-y-o manager, with 1 year in the post, of the Under-17 squad of Lusitano F.C. (Portugal), whose First team was in Portugal's third tier in 2017 (the article badly needs updating). If he were the manager of the Senior team, he would likely be Notable, but not on the strength of his career to date. Couldn't Wikipedia find a more respectful image/photograph of our lovely person of colour who married into the British Royal family? Compared to Kate Megan's introductory picture is disgraceful!![edit]

Here are other images to choose from at Wiki Commons of Meghan Markle: Meghan Markle. Just make sure they have cross usage. Also, if you can find either public domain or fair use images online (Flickr, etc) you are more than welcome to upload a more suitable image that you deem appropriate for the infobox. @Karaokejackie: You can suggest a specific image at Talk:Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Merely asking for a "more respectful image/photograph" is not helpful. Our license requirements reduce the possibilities. File:Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex (2022).JPG was suggested at Talk:Meghan, Duchess of Sussex/Archive 12#Image update but didn't get consensus. Maineartists, when you say Also, if you can find either public domain or fair use images online (Flickr, etc) you are more than welcome to upload a more suitable image that you deem appropriate for the infobox, I suppose that by "fair use images" you mean "conventionally ('all rights reserved') copyright images that can nevertheless be used in a particular article via a claim of 'fair use'". If so, note that Wikipedia:Non-free content says: Non-free content should not be used when a freely licensed file that serves the same purpose can reasonably be expected to be uploaded, as is the case for almost all portraits of living people. -- Hoary (talk) 00:09, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Maineartists What is "cross usage"? I don't think that is a Wikipedia term. All images at Commons are freely usable in any Wikipedia language project. Just to be clear, there aren't really "imagebox" guidelines, but there are image guidelines. David10244 (talk) 05:36, 7 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I never said it was. When a file uploaded for one particular page but is used on other Wiki pages, that's what I call: cross usage; but then there are uploaded images that can only be used for the sole purpose of that page they are associated with and cannot be used on any other page. I've attempted to do this several times. An uploaded image of a BLP on a page that is not their own, but when I tried to use that image on their BLP page, it was not allowed. Yes, but you must then license the copyrighted table and the work it is in uder the CC-BY-SA, and you must attribute the table to Wikipedia. See WP:COPYING. -Arch dude (talk) 13:55, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:UPRIGHT[edit]

The policy MOS:UPRIGHT reads: "Except with very good reason, a fixed width in pixels (e.g. 17px) should not be specified. This ignores the user's base width setting, so upright=scaling factor is preferred whenever possible."

I would appreciate some clarification on this, though it seems very straightforward to me. In most cases I confront, a fixed width in pixels has correctly not been specified, and I have employed the upright scaling, exactly as the policy suggests, "whenever possible." I would welcome additional and objective input on this question: In what possible cases should upright be used? "Whenever possible" seems very clear. In what possible cases, if any, should it not be used?

@Keystone18: I'm assuming this has to do with what was being discussed at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Images#Question. If it is, then your last post there seems to indicate the matter has been resolved. For future reference, it's generally not a good idea to keep trying to start concurrent discussions about the same thing on multiple pages. At the very least, it could cause confusion, fragmentation and redundancy, but it could also be seen by some as WP:FORUMSHOP. If you've already started a discussion about something on one page and want some additional input, then perhaps it's simply better to provide a link to that discussion (e.g. using Template:Please see) to let others know about it, then trying to start a "new" discusion somewhere else. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:09, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

My specific question is related to the policy and guidance on images. I typically use upright imaging, since being instructed once to do so by a fairly experienced editor. I also consulted the policy, which seemed to suggest that he was right in his guidance--that upright imaging is "preferred whenever possible."
