Problems with signature

[edit]

Not sure if this would have been better suited to the Technical Village Pump instead, but here I go. I finally linked both my user and talk pages in my signature, but I can't seem to change the color of the text in there, which is a problem because now my signature is in violation of MOS:CONTRAST. I changed the span style tags to include "color:white" or a CSS color, but nothing changes. Any advice? Thanks Relativity 03:56, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Relativity: I scrolled up the page to a section with a signature that uses a different color for a wikilink and viewed the source, and found that there was a <span>...</span> tag within the wikilink. You could try something like this: <span style="border-radius:3em;padding:5px;background:#9932CC;">‍'''[[User:Relativity|<span style="color:white">Rela</span>]]'''[[User talk:Relativity|<span style="color:white">tivity</span>]]</span> to generate Relativity. @GoingBatty Yes! Thank you! That worked. Cheers Relativity 23:44, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a List of Wikitext variables anywhere?

[edit]

In the various Help pages for editing, there are a couple of pages that illustrate the use of variables, but I cannot find anywhere a list of all the variables that can be used. Having stumbled across some that are apparently not listed (such as  United States), I am certain that there are more; but where? STLbells (talk) 04:34, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@STLbells:. That is called a "Template". There very very many, and a list of all would be quite long. There is this list of some templates that are more commonly used Wikipedia:Template_index, and it also has a search box. RudolfRed (talk) 04:53, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Actor claiming a credit for another actor of the same name!

[edit]

[Redacted] on IMDb is claiming to have acted in ‘Macbeth on the estate’ when it was another actor of the same name! How can the credit be removed from his page as the original [redacted] name has been removed from the credits from the film due to this actor’s identity theft?! 86.26.162.22 (talk) 07:55, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We can't help you with issues on IMDB- which isn't usually an acceptable source here anyway. Is there a Wikipedia article your question pertains to? 331dot (talk) 07:58, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Most IMDb content is added by ordinary users and most subjects probably never edit the page about them if they even see it. It's very unlikely an actor would personally add a false credit like that and very likely that somebody else accidentally linked another actor by the same name. Don't throw around baseless accusations of identity theft. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:27, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can report an error to IMDb; I've done it myself a couple of times, though it is a bit cumbersome. If I recall correctly, you start by pressing the edit page button on one of the Lee Williams articles, but be prepared to prove what you claim. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:47, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Administration

[edit]

How do I become a Wikipedia administrator? If I can, how do I become a Wikipedia administrator? Tanujaanu (talk) 18:19, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can read about the process at WP:CANDIDATE, but with fewer than 100 edits at this time there's no chance that you'd pass the vetting process. If you're still interested I'd encourage you to stick around, read up on things, and above all make constructive contributions that are entirely unrelated to anything admin-ish until you've gained some more experience. DonIago (talk) 18:33, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Once you know Wikipedia well enough to understand what being an admin involves, you'll probably have realised that you don't want to be one. Maproom (talk) 21:01, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tanujaanu Given that you have been creating poor drafts for living people (at least five in six days by my count, all declined so far) which prompted me to point out that quality is more important than quantity, you will need months, maybe years, more experience here before many would trust you with the admin tools. How to approach a flawed yet popular article

[edit]

I was looking over Rorschach test and I feel that the quality of this entire article is extremely poor. Notably: it is overly technical, written with obvious bias, and provides weak citations (the main citation refuting validity concerns is a circular link to another Wikipedia page). I'd like to try to repair the quality of this article but I don't know where to start, partly because I feel that this article is maintained by passionate editors and partly because as I was working to inspect the citations I felt that I was wading through gibberish. Simsarmy (talk) 19:36, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Simsarmy: Hi there! You might want to start by posting on the article's talk page, Talk:Rorschach test. Maybe pick a couple of the biggest issues you see and suggest some improvements. Or look for some better sources and suggest them there. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of What on Earth? episodes

[edit]

I am writing an episode list of this series, and I found sources to estabilish the topic's notability, I found a source from the Hollywood Reporter but also three from The Futon Critic. However I did my best. Ange2444 (talk) 19:46, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ange2444. You don't ask a question - but your Draft hasn't actually been submitted for a review.
The relevant guidelines for list articles are at WP:NLIST. Qcne (talk) 20:02, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article getting deleted

[edit]

I have tried adding the article twice. At first, it showed a problem with one of the images and got removed. On the second try, I had not added the image, yet the article still got removed.

I need help adding this article. It's about a hotelier, and I'm trying to add it from a new account. Arctic solution (talk) 20:53, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and is WP:NOTCENSORED. We will not be removing relevant encyclopedic content from relevant articles . - Arjayay (talk) 21:33, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you saw such an image on an article where it wasn't relevant, please let us know so we can revert any possible vandalism. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:07, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For information on how to avoid seeing images that might offend you, see HELP:NOIMAGE.
Although, if seeing a vagina offends you, I wonder why you were "looking at naked women on google images". CodeTalker (talk) 00:43, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The pretext is that his or her son should not be exposed to such material, and that this is done in order to decide whether or not to whitelist wikipedia. Fabrickator (talk) 01:43, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How to understand the Verdict on WP:Village Pump and WP:RFC

[edit]

How to understand the Verdict on WP:Village Pump , WP:ANI, WP:RFC and other policy pages? Many policy pages contain massive walls of discussion-- 75% of which are noise and time-consuming to read. Are there tools, scripts, tags or conventions to easily summarize and/or highlight the verdict and/or ruling? Tonymetz 💬 21:38, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When it appears no further comments will be productive, the discussion in question will usually be closed. Most of the time the consensus (or lack thereof) is summarised by the closer directly above everything (as seen at WP:CLOSEDISCUSSION § Additional summary format), or relegated to a sidebox (as seen below WP:CLOSEDISCUSSION § Writing a summary). —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:52, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
