WikiProject English

Wikipedia:WikiProject English looks like it needs to be restored and tagged {{historical}}. You deleted it, but the MfD result was actually to tag-'n'-bag. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 11:06, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

There was another MFD, see Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject English (2nd nomination). Beeblebrox (talk) 04:08, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

A request...

I have never asked this before, but I request an early close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Del Zamora and then that the article be userfied to me per my explanation at the AFD. I think a protracted discussion will likley result in a deletion of the current version of Del Zamora and would have asked for userfication after deletion anyway, as I have the sincere belief that sources exist so that I can save this one to better serve the project. It's just that fixing it will take a lot of time and will take a lot of work. I can do it. I will advise the author to watch my progress and learn from it. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:32, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Probably best to post to a central noticeboard, or maybe the talk page of WP:AFD or a related page. — Cirt (talk) 04:35, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Space Pirates and Zombies (and possibly cleavage and big guns and ninjas)

Hi Cirt, as predicted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/S.P.A.Z. this game has since been covered on Rock Paper Shotgun, the site of the game magazine GamePro, as well as an interview on this site and another review on Atomic Gamer. There should be plenty there for me to expand the article. Would you mind restoring the article for me? Someoneanother 15:10, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I just checked your contribs. to see if you're active and you've been having a break for more than 3 weeks, I'll ask David Fuchs since he was the only other participant in the AFD. Sorry to bother you. Someoneanother 20:16, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Barack Obama inaugural address.ogv requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Just so you know, I have overturned your block of this user. They had not edited in over a year and there was no visible sign of any kind of bad faith. Furthermore, there is no prohibition in the username policy against the very presence of the word "puppet." They requested unblock and I took the unusual step of granting that request without consulting you because I believe this block was manifestly incorrect in addition to being handled poorly. I realize the block was quite a while ago and I'm not trying to make a big stink about it, just letting you know why I undid your block. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:27, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

I had been watching this for awhile and was probably going to close it soon the same way. If you get any gruff about this close, I think the "keep" !votes were actually more about supporting Lists of superheroes, which was deleted in an Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lists of superheroes that seems a bit contrary to WP:CLN, so it would be more productive for them to challenge/recreate that than to support an undifferentiated list of all male superheroes. Yacht Bounce Article Deletion

Why was the article deleted? Do you people just run around aimlessly deleting articles based on if "you" have ever heard of the subject? The article DID comply with Wikipedia's notability guidelines. It DID have sources. It was in full compliance. But what I perceive as a high-and-mighty "we're in control here" consortium of editors dropped the ball here and deleted an article I worked hard on to ensure was in full compliance. Rather than provide improvements to it or suggest how it could be made MORE compliant, it was blindly deleted. Just what the hell am I supposed to do to make a new article that WON'T be deleted by you enforcers??? Heavy (talk) 15:16, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Mona Vasquez cover.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Mona Vasquez cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T/C) 00:02, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

I am not well versed in this as you are. How can I discuss the deletion of this page. I want to have it undeleted or resubmitted addressing your concerns. I AM NOT THE ARTIST.

While I understand your ability to delete this I am concerned as I can provide and direct you to at least a dozen artists who are Seay's peers that have very similar articles here. None of them are being targeted for deletion. In fact, any of these artists will vouch for a Seay's career in this genre over a 10 year span I am happy to have Sirius XM music directors verify this is a bone fide music artist with global airplay and sales. I can also have several magazines and music reviewers do the same. Also distributed national by a major brick and mortar distributor etc etc. Many of the references I used are the same as we are all part of the New Age Music Market. Please help me understand the process and provide responses to any of your concerns.

Respectfully submitted

Request for archived page deletion

Hello,

May I request you to urgently look upon the following page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia%3AArticles_for_deletion%2FDr._Ikram_Abidi

This is an old archived page. The problem is that this page is showing up in one of the top Google searches whenever the name "ikram abidi" is being typed in. As a result, my potential customers and clients are being affected and my own reputation is being negatively impacted because of the same.

I'm sure that you'll agree that a an ordinary viewer or customer has got nothing to do with an old archived debate between Wikipedia editors and an author over whether to include a person or not.

I, therefore, request you to do something about this matter. Would be grateful if this could be permanently deleted or at least hidden from the google searches.

Regards,

Request to undo deletion of Kokondo page

I apologize for my lack of familiarity with how to make this request and any errors I may make, but I would like to request the undeletion of the Kokondo page.

To address the concerns that this is an irrelevant or defunct martial art, this is indeed a legitimate marital art practiced at a number of schools nationwide. Official website is http://www.kokondo.org and is referenced in the article. I do not have a comprehensive list of dojos, but I know they at least exist in Connecticut, Florida, Washington, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Idaho, Missouri, and Ohio. The reviewer who indicated that it was clustered around a city in Connecticut is incorrect. There are no notable competition successes from students because the art discourages competition and instead focuses on real-world self-defense. It was founded around 50 years ago, which I would argue doesn't qualify as a recent splinter, and has been continuously practiced since. There are at least a dozen other websites on this art. See example links at http://www.kokondomartialarts.com/links.htm.

Thank you for your consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.66.77 (talk) 21:40, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Cirt, just for the record, and especially considering how multiple arbitrators have voted for de-sysop, I think the proper thing for you to do at this point would be to resign. Let things settle for awhile, continue good work in other parts of the project, and then if you want, go for another RfA at some point in the future. I understand the frustration since the problems weren't related to using admin tools, but trying to struggle to maintain your bit at this point is just going to cause negative feelings within the community. The honorable thing to do at this point is resign in a dignified manner, and then re-visit things later. --Elonka 14:46, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Hello, you recently blocked AvicBot on EnWq (rightly so; I was changing settings in AvicBot's config to include more wikis, however EnWq was added by accident - it should not have edited EnWq, and I agree with the block) however it seems you may have accidentally left the option "Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from" checked, as my main account is auto-blocked there, as well. If possible, I'd like to correct this, so I can offer my explanation and apology to the EnWq community. Thanks. Avicennasis @ 23:44, 8 Elul 5771 / 23:44, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

An arbitration case regarding the conduct of User:Cirt and User:Jayen466 has been closed and may be viewed at the link above. The following is a summary of enacted remedies:

  1. Cirt is topic-banned indefinitely from making any edits to articles related to new religious movements, their adherents, and any related biographies of living people, broadly construed.
  2. Cirt is further restricted on biographies of living people if the articles are substantially about, or Cirt's edits introduce material relating to: politics, religion, or social controversy. Cirt is permitted to edit articles incidentally related to such topics provided the articles, and Cirt's edits, are not biographical in nature. The Committee may extend this restriction if BLP-related problems continue, and Cirt may request relaxation of this restriction after one year from this date if there are no further problems.
  3. Cirt is desysopped for admitted violations of the neutral point of view and biographies of living people policies. He may reapply for adminship through requests for adminship at any time.
  4. Jayen466 is reminded to strictly adhere to dispute resolution processes in any future disputes.
  5. Cirt and Jayen466 are subject to an interaction restriction wherein they may not communicate with each other, nor comment on each other, or each other's actions or edits, directly or indirectly, anywhere on Wikipedia. Comments on the same page are permissible provided the previously mentioned restrictions are upheld. Neither party may respond directly to any violations of this or any other remedy, but shall report any violations via email directly to the Arbitration Committee.
  6. Any violation of these restrictions may be enforced by block, to be logged at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Cirt and Jayen466#Log of blocks, bans, and restrictions.

For the Arbitration Committee, Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

A request WRT your previous AFD closes.

First I'd like to say that this sucks. You were a decent admin and I'm sorry that it happened. However, I would like to make a request. You often closed AFDs as "delete" with only one participant but you were pretty good about reopening and relisting them if somebody later objected. Therefore, when your AFDs were challenged at WP:REFUND or occasionally on my talk page, I would tell them to discuss it with you. However, now that you can no longer undelete articles unfortunately, I would like your permission to undelete the articles and reopen the AFDs mmyself if they are challenged if in my best judgement they might benefit from further discussion (but no unsourced BLPs) --Ron Ritzman (talk) 03:52, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Request for assistance re Battle of Vukovar

I noticed that you had left a review at Talk:Battle of Vukovar#Multiple unaddressed article issues some months ago. I've since largely rewritten and greatly expanded the article, addressing the issues that you raised. I'm aiming to get the article to featured status in time for the 20th anniversary of the battle, on 18 November. It's a tight timetable but I think it's achievable. You've had some experience with FAs before so I would really appreciate any help you could provide. In particular, I'm a bit stuck with formatting the news references - I've used the harv format for the book refs but it doesn't seem to work for news items. Can you suggest a way around that? My friend Carrite who discloses on his user page that he is Tim Davenport, is protesting against Cirt being stripped of admin powers by not editing while logged in for the rest of September. He is not acting as a sockpuppet since he reveals what he is doing. In part, he is trying to learn what happens to enthusiastic IP editors here. Best to you, Tim. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:48, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

A friendly word

Thank you for all that you have done to improve and protect this encylopedia. Perhaps you have made some errors - I don't know for sure. I don't think we've ever had much interaction, so I guess I can be considered an "uninvolved editor" in this matter. I encourage you to consider reapplying for administratorship after an appropriate period of time has passed. But in any case, I hope that you will stick with the project and continue contributing productively. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:58, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

I also urge you to stay with the encyclopedia. I had to take the summer off and was away for nine weeks, and have only now, to my surprise and dismay, become aware that you lost the mop by one vote. Since ArbCom itself was clearly divided on the issue, I hope you will take heart and hang in here. Regardless, my best wishes to you, always, Jusdafax 20:41, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I hope you had a good summer. Several editors have been hard at work on the Offenbach article, but it does not have any sound files, and none of us know anything about making sound files. Could you check out the page here to see if any of these files are useful? Also, Offenbach music has been used extensively in films. See here. In any case, if you can make a sound file for the article (preferably PD), everyone would be very grateful, and it would be a great addition to the article. Statement on my Wikipedia editing

I've given my editing some significant thought, and I'm going to shift my focus for an extended period: both in (1) Articles chosen to edit, and (2) Activity level.

  1. I'm going to reduce my activity level significantly, as I've done now for the past few days.
  2. I'm going to focus primarily on getting prior articles I had already improved in quality - up to FA quality.
  3. And I'm going to shift efforts in new areas of interest - to primarily editing and improving the quality of articles about U.S. Supreme Court cases (as mentioned above diff).
  4. I'm going to try to seek out collaborative help from other respected editors, and WikiProjects, in all of the above endeavors.
  5. I remain committed to not editing DYK again in the future.

Thank you for your time, -- Cirt (talk) 14:19, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello there. Back in June you deleted the above article - an auto-bio of a non-notale. It re-appeared a few weeks later under a slightly different spelling by a new user whom I'm guessing is sock. What's the procedure here? Can the article be deleted again? Does it need to go through a sock check? cheers --Merbabu (talk)

Jason Plummer pages

Merger proposal

I propose that Jason Plummer (Illinois Politician be merged into Jason Plummer (Politician). I think that the content in the Illinois Politician article can easily be explained in the context of Politician, and the Politician article is of a reasonable size in which the merging of Illinois Politician will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. I understand the Politician page was due to deletion, but Plummer is currently running for office, which fits into wikipedia's definition for a notable person and politican. 108.199.242.214 (talk) 13:45, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Merger discussions are best taken place at the respective article talk pages from whence they are associated with them to have those talks on the pages of them. — Cirt (talk) 10:43, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Unfair ban

Why did you ban the user Sebsauvage ? He's well known in France for talking about open source software.

You banned him because he posted ONE LINK that showed something pertaining to a Wikipedia article (Generative Art, he made an open-source software that mixes images).

I gave money to Wikipedia, I corrected many articles, but if you admins keep banning people like that without any valid reason, you'll end up killing Wikipedia yourselves. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.239.190.80 (talk) 14:05, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, if you look again, you'll see he added links to his own website on two separate articles. He also (this you can't see currently) created a userpage that was only promoting his website. This is the very definition of spam - apparently being here only to promote some entity. It was a good block, and when appealed was declined by an independent administrator. LadyofShalott 14:44, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your answer, and sorry if I sounded rude, I got carried away a little bit, because a lot of bloggers tend to trust this user (Sebsauvage), so we were really surprised that he was banned from Wikipedia :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.239.190.80 (talk) 15:00, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Also, he wasn't banned, which would be a permanent restriction from any editing on Wikipedia. He was blocked for a violation of the username policy; he would likely be able to edit if he requested a change of username (unrelated to his website, which he's tried to promote) and if he agreed to abide by the conflict of interest guidelines. —C.Fred (talk) 15:08, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Hello, Sebsauvage is an abreviation of his real name: Sebastien Sauvage. It's not a "company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity" of anything, it's an individual! And whatever the name or pseudo, when you've built your internet identity on one, you don't want to change it. Besides, isn't it allowed for one's userpage to link to one's own website? A userpage is not an encyclopedic page; I thought the point of a userpage was to introduce oneself, and sometimes the best way to introduce oneself may be to link to one's external presentation. If this is forbidden by a Wikipedia rule, I think you might consider changing the rule.
P.s.: I don't understand either why the blockage's date is 2009. Grasyop 15:47, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

I'll defer to the judgment of reviewing admins on whether to unblock the account. — Cirt (talk) 10:44, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

Scott Wright (American football)

Hey,

I was wondering if you could please restore the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Wright_%28American_football%29 to my userspace so I can improve it.
I am actually the subject of that article. I did not create it, but somebody notified me that it had been deleted and I didn't think that looked good. Especially since I am mentioned in other Wikipedia articles (ex. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mock_draft). Believe me, I am not one to toot my own horn but I believe there are countless resources out there that verify I am a prominent expert in the field. One example is at http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/mockdraftscoring.shtml, but a Google search for "Scott Wright + NFL Draft" reveals page after page after page of confirmation.
I understand it may be a conflict of interest to do it myself so I am open to having an impartial party do it as well, I just wanted to get it active with reliable information.
Thanks in advance for your time, I look forward to hearing back!

afd on penis removal

Existing lists are mostly consisted of events which have articles of their own on wikipedia due to their notability For example, see List of serial killers by number of victims, List of assassinations and assassination attempts, List of bank robbers and robberies, and List of kidnappings
almost all of their entries link to articles of their own, List of kidnappings has Mary Jemison, List of bank robbers and robberies has Banco Central burglary at Fortaleza, List of assassinations and assassination attempts has Ehud, List of serial killers by number of victims has Luis Garavito. Very few red links are included
the only two entries at list of cases of penis removal which have their own article are John and Lorena Bobbitt and Sada Abe. the rest are all unimporant cases about a random guy mostly in china, mr joe six pack getting his penis cut off by his wife, they aren't notable, they don't have their own wikipedia articles.
These lists specifically state, "The following is a list of some of the most famous assassinations and assassination attempts. It is not intended to be exhaustive." "This is a list of famous bank robberies, bank robbers and gangs involved in bank robberies."Bunser (talk) 04:36, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

But since in the intervening 3 years no one took advantage of your searches to improve the article, it has been renominated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Roecker (2nd nomination) with the inferrence that because of the lack of effort, your search and results and conclusion must somehow have been flawed. Bacon Challenge 2012 Update

Hey! It's been a good few months since the Bacon Challenge 2012 kicked off in June, and I'm pleased to say that decent progress has been made. While we were a bit slow to start, bacon-related contributions have been picking up again, and scores have been rising in the Bacon WikiCup. Here's a quick rundown of the overall positions as they stand:

Currently, only a handful of participants have reported contributions: to those who haven't, remember, there is still plenty of time left to contribute and rise up in through the positions, as the Challenge and WikiCup run up until March. Just like last year, all participants will receive a shiny medal which they can place on their userpages, or use as a self-esteem booster if need be (just joking...sort of). If you need ideas for what to work on, a list is available here.

One last thing! Per request, we are bringing back territory representation into the WikiCup! Editors can now represent nations, states, or provinces, just to add a bit of fun and Olympic-flair to the event. Simply reply to this message with the territory you wish to represent, if you choose to do so.

Thanks for reading! Good luck! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Cirt,

Last year, you deleted an article on Bugei Juhappan, per consensus at AfD (which seemed to indicate a lack of sources as the problem). I've got a number of sources lined up ready to write the article afresh, but it would be handy to see what existed before. Is there any chance you could temporarily userfy the deleted version of the page to my userspace, so that I can take a look at it? (my draft is going up at User:Yunshui/Bugei Juhappan, so if you could userfy to a different title (say User:Yunshui/Bugei Juhappan1) that would be handy.) Cheers, Yunshui  09:24, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

As you can tell from the bluelink, I've now moved the article to mainspace. No need to worry about finding the deleted one any more; I think I've covered the relevent bases. Thanks anyway, Yunshui  14:10, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Blake Mills

Blake Mills is very much legit. Frankly, I'd never heard of him until last night. He was billed as the "opening act" for Lucinda Williams at the Montbleu in Stateline, NV, but that was a bit of a misrepresentation. In fact, he played six songs solo, took a break, and then went on to back up Lucinda in an "unplugged" type concert that ran nearly 2 hours. He has a solo album from 2010 out called "Break Mirrors." I'm a bit suprised I wasn't able to get at least some basic bio info on him from Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.161.67.89 (talk) 07:39, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Non-Neutral Point of View

Today, I was speaking with a man who is a practitioner of sungazing. He told me to look up information about it on the internet, and specifically to look for Hira Ratan Manek. I tried to use Wikipedia to find more information about this. I first looked at the sungazing page, but it had no information about any of what the man had told me. I then used Google to find Hira Ratan Manek's web site, as well as a recently-deleted Wikipedia page about him. I returned to Wikipedia and searched for his name and found a section on Inedia, which itself did not link back to sungazing, which is really what he's talking about. So I decided to make a few edits. I linked sungazing to inedia, and I put in a cross-reference to Hira Ratan Manek. This is good practice because it allows the easier access of similar information by Wikipedia users. I shouldn't have had to leave the site to find the information I needed when it was already here.

It is my contention that your deletion of the redirect does not constitute NPOV, but rather an example of the victors writing the history books. Sungazing has been practiced for millenia around the world and is still practiced in many cultures, just not those that spend a lot of time on Wikipedia. On the other hand, lots of Wikipedians have easy access to Western medical research, which is of course incredibly biased by the fact that western medicine is quite distinct from many of the modern cultures that practice sungazing. There is in fact a lot of information available about sungazing; it even used to be on the page. But it was deleted by the aforementioned victors, because it didn't stack up to western medicine. What the victors forgot was that this is an apples to oranges comparison: western medicine and sungazing are discussed in different traditions. The proponents of sungazing do not use statistics and controls, nor do they publish in journals, but they do write and publish material in their own manner. But they do not all experience vision loss, which seems to be guaranteed according to western science. We must be very careful of our bias.

Joe job

It has recently come to my attention that I was joe jobbed on Wikinews, and that you facilitated this joe job without question by accepting the initial query and running a checkuser at the request of the complainant. You also alleged in your response that the use of multiple accounts was indistinguishable from myself and should be blocked on sight. I'm afraid that your response as an administrator and checkuser in this regard is entirely unacceptable. Since I am prevented from responding there, I'm hoping that my response here will be satisfactory. Now, either one of the following three things are correct: 1) a user was trying to pretend to be me by creating and editing in a similar style, or 2) a user was trying to pretend to be me in order to justify a check user and by guilt by association, make it seem like I had violated the block, or 3) it was me. Based on the fact that I live in Hawaii and only edit (excepting island hotspots) from two IP ranges (home and cell), number 3 is unlikely, since I don't have access to a mobile phone or IP in Europe. Number 1 is also unlikely, but not impossible, as someone might think they are "helping" by disrupting Wikinews. Which leaves 2, which appears to me as very likely, as this kind of editing behavior would directly lead to a checkuser and associating my account with malfeasance, of which there has been none to date. Unfortunately, I am inclined to think that your conclusion was biased, based on our past interaction at Talk:Mau Piailug/GA1 and my support for the removal of your administrative tools on Wikipedia and/or your topic ban on controversial topics. Interestingly, or should I say, coincidentally, several of the administrators directly involved in this dispute, actively edit from European ISPs. It would be easy for them to associate my account with malfeasance and request a checkuser simply by creating a new account and editing in a similar style. This is a classic joe job, and one that seems, on the face of it, to have links to Wikinews itself. Viriditas (talk) 02:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry but as you appear to not be able to use your talk page on Wikinews, the venue for you to communicate is not here, but rather through the Wikinews OTRS queue.Cirt (talk) 04:07, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
You want me to ask Wikinews to investigate itself? I don't think so, as you're probably responsible for answering the queue. Fox, henhouse, etc. No, this requires the assistance of a neutral ombudsman, as it appears that the integrity of the Wikinews community has been compromised. Intentionally associating users with joe job accounts is unconscionable. Viriditas (talk) 04:40, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Please note: From the very start of the check I'd noted I conferred with other Checkusers on this issue, and noted so, on wiki, diff. — Cirt (talk) 04:44, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
You associated me with a joe job account that neither belongs to me nor reflects my contributions in any manner, and quite clearly, edits from Europe and uses British English. I'm an American, and I edit from Hawaii. If this isn't making sense to you, then feel free to ask questions, but arguing from authority or saying you were only following orders isn't an acceptable use of the tools and displays a lack of good judgement on your part. Viriditas (talk) 05:14, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
You appear to be confusing associations I made with the named accounts with each other at n:Wikinews:Requests_for_CheckUser#Nauseous_green, with yourself. Actually, if you look closer, I made zero statements of the sort. — Cirt (talk) 05:44, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
I haven't confused anything. You performed the CU based on a poorly constructed joe job attempt that was created to justify the CU in the first place. You know for a fact that the CU exonerated me, but you refused to confirm or deny, leaving the suspicion open. Further, the CU should not have been run in the first place, as this was quite clearly an amateurish fishing expedition for personal data that you allowed to occur. Viriditas (talk) 06:17, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

If you think there was a privacy violation, you can refer the matter to the m:Ombudsman commission at cu-ombuds-l@lists.wikimedia.org. If you think there was a m:Checkuser policy violation, you can seek out help from the Wikinews Arbitration Committee. — Cirt (talk) 18:53, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Cirt, you ran a checkuser on my account based on an obvoius joe job that had zero relation to me, and cannot be connected to me in any way, shape or form. However, you and others over at Wikinews refuse to acknowledge this and continue to claim it is me. I can easily prove it is not and I'm not even a checkuser:
  1. "193.62.43.202" is a vandalism-only account, having engaged in vandalism and homophobic edits.[5] I've never done either of those things, ever. 193.62.43.202 also used the js button to repeatedly submit unauthorized reviews and to submit unauthorized publication of news articles.[6] I've never submitted any Wikinews article for review more than once, nor have I ever used the js button.
  2. "Free Web Defence" engaged in the exact same behavior as 193.62.43.202. This is behavior that I've never once demonstrated on any wiki at anytime. Please also note the use of British English. I'm an American, and I spell "defense" with an s not a c.
  3. "Fkjsdnkjfndsjfsd" does not appear to bear any relationship to "193.62.43.202", nor to "Free Web Defence", nor to myself, nor can I understand why it is even under discussion.
  4. "77.28.104.213" appears to be "Fkjsdnkjfndsjfsd". No relation to myself in any way.
So, Cirt, on what evidence did you run this checkuser? And since you found no connection at all between myself and these other accounts, why are you and others still maintaining that they are me? It really sounds like you are abusing the tools and smearing innocent users like myself. I don't think anyone with admin rights or CU tools should be allowed to do that, and this has nothing to do with me. I would be saying the same thing about anyone that was being smeared like this. Please escalate this to the highest level, as I want it resolved immediately. I'm not asking that you lose your admin rights on Wikinews as you did here, I'm asking that you take the necessary steps to resolve this in a fair and just manner. If you can't do the right thing, say so, and I'll try and contact the Foundation. Viriditas (talk) 09:33, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Comment: Cirt is a most professional CheckUser, and you obviously "lack clue" regarding the privilege and it's use. You are speculating, Viriditas, that he actually checked your account. Given you well-warranted permanent ban from Wikinews, the logical checks to carry out would be the accounts raised, and the ranges they edited from [Because, we'd lack recent history on your assigned IPs]. Since these turned up open/hacked proxies, it would be pointless to check your account — unless there were grounds to suspect you had made use of proxies in the past.
You proved the point already on Wikinews: You don't know how to write a news article; you can't comprehend a wiki holding a "snapshot" of what was known at the time; and, you're prone to throwing the toys out your pram if people do not bend to your will.
You should take a degree of satisfaction from your failed efforts on Wikinews provoking a joe-job (if indeed it was such).
You need to admit that the RfCU was legitimate, that the use of CheckUser was legitimate, and that the "no clear evidence" response is acceptable. If not, then you're setting yourself up for the self-same treatment here, on Wikipedia — should you end up in a dispute and someone employs similar smear-tactics. In short: You owe Cirt an apology. I'd go further and say you owe the entire Wikinews community one over your dismissal of our arbcom's ability to function impartially, but I know that is not likely to be forthcoming. --Brian McNeil /talk 19:57, 14 February 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian McNeil (talkcontribs)
On the contrary, there is incontrovertible evidence posted directly above your reply that shows there is no way these other accounts could be linked to me, either on a technical or on a behaviorial basis. This is obvious to anyone with a "clue". You've become so blinded by your personal disputes with other editors that you've become unable to execute your duties with a calm, rational demeanor. You appear to be more interested in propagating false allegations and inventing fantasies than in looking at the hard evidence. I don't really see how you can continue to function as an admin on Wikinews, but then again, Wikinews is entirely dysfunctional and operates as a walled garden at this point. It appears to be suffering from the same endemic problems as Meta. I would love to help fix the problem, Brian, but you're going to first need to accept that I'm here to help. Dear Cirt: Could you please review the decision on the page for 'Getamungstit'

Dear Cirt

There used to be a page for the student magazine Getamungstit. The magazine went defunct, but is now archived in the National Library of Australia and I would be grateful if you could restore the page so I can add the story of how the magazine ended and how people can now access it through the archives of the National Library of Australia.

I hope I have done this the right way.

Explanation?

I'm in WTF mode on this one: [7]. Care to illuminate me? Carrite (talk) 19:17, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Everyone can use a Welcome. It can't hurt for users to be aware of the major policies. Sometimes when I warn vandals, I even welcome them, then give them a warning. That way, they are aware of the specific policies, and the individual one they violated, and may choose to stop, and contribute in a constructive manner at a later point in time, and have the "Welcome" links to important policy pages, to refer back to. :) — Cirt (talk) 19:20, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
I am unconvinced. This looks like a very poor decision, at a minimum, and evidence of collaboration, at a maximum. But done's done and I've probably said too much already. Carrite (talk) 19:39, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Note: For example, even Template:Uw-vandalism1 tells the user to read the welcome page. ;) — Cirt (talk) 19:41, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
If I may comment, this doesn't look nefarious at all. Cirt probably saw the user lacked a welcome message and he decided to add one. However, this vandal hasn't been active for two years, so I can also understand how Carrite finds it odd and questions its purpose. One thing that concerns me is the user name. Reckless Love

Hello Cirt. I'm contacting you about Reckless Love because you closed an AfD on it and deleted it on 18 May 2010. The present article on the same topic was (re?-)created on 1 November 2010. On 8 December 2011, the article was tagged for suspected copyvio, but it appears that the tagger may not have added it to the copyvio investigations page, and the tag is just sitting there.

I am quite bemused as to what has happened and what should happen now, not knowing whether the article should be re-deleted, put up for copyvio investigation, or what else. Yellow Bird

You may be familiar w/Swedish company Yellow Bird, which controls the rights to Steig Larsson's books, producing the Swedish films and negotiating w/Sony on the English productions, notably "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo" of late. YB has an article which will likely get a lot of traffic about now, and seems to be about 3 years out-of-date. Maybe you could make mention on the right talk page: I can't edit them unless there is already a topic/thread begun, as here. Rags69.171.178.23 (talk) 18:33, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I did remove stuff on the talk page. The archive and the talk header aren't needed yet. If there are alot of talk messages, then you add them. I also removed WikiProject British TV shows as it generally doesn't include people. I removed WikiProject Media and WikiProject Journalism. Xplico restore

The Xplico Wikipedia page was deleted in the 2008, now the Xplico project is more popular and some Wikipedia pages have a reference about Xplico:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netsniff-ng

Xplico has more users and more features that Justniffer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justniffer ) and it is officially used in BackTrack, Security Onion, DEFT-Linux and BackBox.

Just posted a few edits I had running — a few grammar points; reduced reliance on in-universe material in characterisation sections and a bit of paring down of wordy sentences. I had also noticed that a couple of the websites that were referenced had been removed and replaced with a new website, I removed one reference and found an alternative source for the other. I do appreciate that as the verifiable directorial debut of a notable person, this article meets a criteria of WP:NF... and that it does have coverage... but I ask that you take a look at this edit and consider that a "redirect" is pretty much okay for now just so long as there is no prejudice toward a recreation of the article if/when more sources become available AND as long as the returned article be properly sourced and maintain a properly neutral tone. • Burden of proof is still on you. If you know where sources are, show them. Don't just say "but but but, THERE ARE SOURCES!!!!1111!1" unless you can prove it. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 15:49, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
  • I said I found a whopping one source which is a 404. One is not multiple third party sources. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 16:16, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
  • And what's more, I was able to recover the 404'd article and find out that it's not actually about Atop the Fourth Wall at all — the writer just says "While I can't tell you who won the last “American Idol,” I can recall the last comic book discussed in “Atop the Fourth Wall." and the article otherwise has nothing at all to do with AT4W. So it's just a one-off mention which doesn't even qualify as coverage. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 16:29, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
  • You still haven't acknowledged the fact that the one source I did find is trivial. Does that not matter to you? Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 03:28, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Note: I've been replying at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Atop the Fourth Wall. — Cirt (talk) 06:44, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

  • Okay, maybe my comments were a bit vague. Nowhere was I intending to imply that "we can't use this source, ever, it's a 404". I know full well that a 404'd source can still be used. My implication was "I found only two hits on Google News — one is obviously unusable as it's a video response to one of Linkara's reviews, and I'm not sure on the other due to it being 404", and I'm sorry if it came across otherwise. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 13:39, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Cirt!

Hi Cirt! I'm a new Wikipedian--though I have enjoyed Wikipedia articles for years. I have edited an article that stated incorrect facts--even misquoting the very article they referenced! I edited it, correcting the errors, and the next day it was edited back to the incorrect information! I have re-edited again, this time with even more credible references (from industry sources, first party announcements, and newspaper articles--not op-eds!). Direct quotes! I am concerned that someone will change it back to more incorrect statements. What should I do?

Thank you. And I loved the photo of the cookies!

Wikiversity's ANI?

Do you know where I would go on Wikiversity to address this personal attack? SilverserenC 21:43, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Does that not count as a personal attack over there then? SilverserenC 22:23, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Never mind, I read their civility policy. Seems like, yes, it was a personal attack, but that they don't have any avenues of response like ANI for any level of attacks like that and they only advise ignoring it. Seems like the policy is an attempt to ignore the "bad things" that people do and pretend that there's no bad stuff at all. I would have expected Wikiversity to have a more adult response than that, but I suppose ignoring it is for the best.
Would I be within my rights over there to remove the links he gave? All I linked to was a general forum discussion with no attempt to specifically state who the user was, while those links he gave, on the other hand, are specifically about me in other forums. SilverserenC 23:56, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
It's alright, someone else already removed the comment in question. SilverserenC 05:28, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

To be honest, I had completely forgotten about the FP review, but I have been slowly improving the portal, mostly trying to make it less US-centric and fill in the dates with no events. I also made all the "selected" features random instead of one per month, since I don't have the time to update it that often. I'm not especially worried about the "Featured" label (although it seems the project is almost completely inactive if a review could go un-closed for a year), so I really don't care about the outcome; I'm maintaining the portal just because.-RunningOnBrains(talk) 08:22, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

David W. Woods

My son recently found an article on the internet with my name. When I did a google search, I also found the following article:

David W. Woods won the National Motocross Association 125cc National Championship in March 1977. David was born in Memphis, TN and competed nationally in several motocross classes. He was sponsored by FMF of Van Nuys, CA and later DG Performance of Anaheim, CA riding Suzuki RM motorcycles exclusively. As an amateur, David's team mates consisted of Bob Hannah and Brock Glover prior to their departure to the pro ranks. David and Mark Murphy of Florida comprised the School Boy national team for DG. One of David's most impressive motocross performances was sweeping every moto in the 100cc, 125cc, and 250cc class of the 1976 Southeastern United States Championships in Birmingham, AL. David graduated from Memphis State University with an Electrical Engineering degree and is reported to have had a very successful career in the military. Rumored but not confirmed, David flew fighters in the US Navy and later Commanded a combat F-15 unit in the Air National Guard. David retired from active duty and is reported to be flying for a major US airline. David is believed to be living in Florida and family information is unknown.

The origin of this article is unknown but the facts (although vague) are very accurate. Accurate to the point of having me scratch my head wondering where this came from. My guess would be Mark Murphy of Florida or Hannah/Glover but I have not spoken with them since my departure from motocross in late 1977. I flew F/A-18's in the US Navy and graduated from the US Navy Test Pilot School in 1991. I did fly F-15's for eight and a half years and currently fly for a major airline. So all in all, pretty accurate but still freaky.75.66.179.177 (talk) 04:04, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Resolved by motion at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Amendment that: The Cirt and Jayen466 case is supplemented as follows:

Notwithstanding other restrictions on his editing, Cirt is granted an exemption in order to edit the article Dan Savage bibliography, its talk page, a peer review for that article, and a featured list candidacy for the article. This exemption may be withdrawn by The Rambling Man at anytime, or by further motion of the Arbitration Committee.

Discuss this
Let's do it! The way I see it working is that you make the changes and updates you deem necessary, then I'll review the changes. Once we get to a good state, you nominate the article at FLC and we see how it flies. During that time I'll just monitor what goes on, what changes you make, and hopefully, in a month or so, we have a nice shiny FL. Sound good? The Rambling Man (talk) 17:13, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
@AlexandrDmitri (talk · contribs), thanks for the notice. :) @The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), I really appreciate your help, and I'll keep you posted as I go with this project. :) — Cirt (talk) 01:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Josh Jenkins

Hi there, a few years ago you (quite rightly at the time) deleted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Josh Jenkins. At the time he was a rookie listed player who had yet to make his debut in the top level Australian Football League. He made his debut today (ref1, ref2), so can you please undelete it, or do I need to go through an official deletion review system? (I am assuming that it is the same guy... born 08 Feb 1989?), Thanks The-Pope (talk) 08:10, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't pay much attention to the drama admin boards, so I wasn't aware that you'd lost the bit. The-Pope (talk) 15:22, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Figured I'd ask...

You were the closing admin for Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_Grand_Masters_of_the_Grand_Lodge_of_Scotland back in 2010, and interestingly enough, the creator of this article was, subsequent to the AfD, indef blocked for persistent copyright violation. I didn't find this out until after posting the AfD this time (couldn't notify user due to talk page protection), but since I'm nominating this time around for a total lack of sources, I think it's fair to assume that the list was originally taken off the Grand Lodge's website, not from the 1987 book that was falsely cited. Is that enough circumstantial evidence to pull the AfD and go for a CSD G12 even if the source is gone? MSJapan (talk) 22:23, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Probably, but for expert opinion I'd suggest you check with Moonriddengirl (talk · contribs). — Cirt (talk) 02:09, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: The Last Temptation of Krust

This is a note to let the main editors of The Last Temptation of Krust know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 28, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 28, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

"The Last Temptation of Krust" is the 15th episode of The Simpsons' ninth season. The episode first aired on February 22, 1998. Bart convinces Krusty the Clown to appear at a comedy festival organized by Jay Leno, but Krusty's old material does not go over well with the audience, and he receives bad reviews. After Krusty goes on a drinking binge, Bart and Jay Leno bathe him in the Simpsons' house, and Krusty decides to announce his retirement. At Krusty's retirement press conference, the audience finds his tirade against modern comedy hysterical, and he returns to comedy with a new style where he complains about commercialism. He later agrees to a deal with marketing executives in return for a new "Canyonero" – a spoof on sport utility vehicles, and markets products during his next comedy appearance. The episode ends with an extended Canyonero sequence, with a background song sung by Hank Williams, Jr. The writing staff initially had trouble getting Krusty's offensive bad jokes through network censors, but convinced them this was simply a way to emphasize his old and dated comedic material. The episode was highlighted by USA Today in a review of The Simpsons ninth season, and received positive reviews in The Washington Times, the Evening Herald, and in books on The Simpsons. (more...)

You closed this discussion several years ago and I'm asking about undeleting the article. The main reason that the article was deleted because of the newly-written WP:NMOTORSPORT made non-professional drivers non-notable. I started that article because he was a United States national racing champion in the top class in IMCA. People commented that he was a local driver even though he raced at their major national event (IMCA Super Nationals). I recently came across another strictly local driver Tia Norfleet diff at nomination who has less notability than him (no championships, touring series starts, etc) and nominated it for deletion. It was recently closed as keep (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tia Norfleet) with everyone commenting keep. The only reason that the article was nominated for deletion was because he was non-professional (diff). I asked User:The Bushranger to give an opinion after I nominated Norfleet for deletion based on the same rationale. He read Siefert's AFD, read the deleted article, and commented that he felt that Seifert was probably notable enough (diff).

Looking at the sources, The Green Bay Press Gazette is a major national newspaper owned by Gannett. Racing Online is a regional website on racing and Who Won is national. The Hawkeye Racing News is a national print racing magazine [9] that's been around for 44 years.

Additional sources / updates: column from radio station racing reporter in Iowa (far away). Interview He won the 2008 Wisconsin state championship [10]. He is now mainly racing on the Badger Modified Tour [11] which is a statewide touring series. You can respond here. Royalbroil 03:17, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Recreating a deleted article

Hi Cirt. I was considering creating an article this morning on the book Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere, however I noticed that an article on the topic was deleted a year or two ago per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aikido and the Dynamic Sphere: An Illustrated Introduction. I think it could merit revisiting; several sources are available ([12][13][14][15][16][17][18] are a few examples) which evidence its importance as a text on aikido. It can certainly be shown to pass criteria 1 and 3 of WP:NBOOK. Would you have any objection to my recreating the article based on these and other sources? Cheers, Yunshui  07:36, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi,

Were you involved in deleting the English Conjugation tables? I would like to have that page undeleted? The people who wanted it deleted never contributed to the page or used it. They just wanted some power to say no, and used specious arguments. I have referred many people from all over the world to help with their English. OTRS question

I uploaded an OTRS image. I added it to the article and someone removed it. Its OTRS permission hasn't been officially verified yet was used as the reason. Does the image need to be cleared first by OTRS for it to be used? Especially since it was uploaded and its authenticity asserted by a well-respected editor. Royalbroil 11:31, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Done, Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 17:36, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
While done is nice, it doesn't answer the question: does an image need to be cleared first by OTRS for it to be used?
That fact that it's clearly a copyright violation as it's press kit photo is another issue. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:44, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
The answer is no, it doesn't need to be. However it's certainly ideal, yes. — Cirt (talk) 18:45, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for checking the OTRS, Cirt. I really wanted to know the answer to the question in case it comes up again. And Walter, just being a press photo doesn't necessarily mean that it's a copyright violation. Artists will often hire someone to photograph them and one of the terms of doing the photograph is that the artist acquires the copyright license of the photographs. So the artist can relicense that photo. While a press kit photo is usually a problem, that's why OTRS exists - for verifying the rare scenarios like this one. If the OTRS fails on a photo, then I knew it gets deleted immediately - so I never would have replaced the previous image if there was any risk of having no image. WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:23, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. — Cirt (talk) 19:52, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:13, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

GA reviews = Culture, sociology and psychology

I'm reviewing two articles for GA candidacy listed in Social sciences and society, under the sub-topic of Culture, sociology and psychology:

  1. Finger (gesture)
  2. Nonviolent Communication

Cirt (talk) 04:41, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

thanks, from eddacker

Hiya,I received my e-mail this morning telling me of your entry on my talk page. And I just wanted to say I appreciate it. I have been an infrequent contributor to Wikipedia, when I find some simple or obvious error I take the time to correct it. I have recently retired and would be more than willing, over the next few months, to learn and to join a more active role. I am no way associated with Ed Decker. My username is usually spelled in all small letters and is a combination of my first and last real name. As I said earlier I do have some extra time now and I do know how to use both text editing, Microsoft Word and wiki style. I will start by doing some reading and update/refine my user page.

Again, thanks for noticing and encouraging me. Signed eddacker Eddacker (talk) 08:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

You're most welcome! :) — Cirt (talk) 12:54, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Re creating deleted article

I asked Orderinchaos how I should go about re creating this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Left_Right_Think_Tank on his user page here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Orderinchaos&direction=next&oldid=512127151. I've gone about re-creating the article to an acceptable level here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:JakeSpi/Left_Right_Think_Tank and was wondering if, considering you were involved in the deletion, you would be considered a neutral party for the go ahead, or perhaps you would help me get in contact with someone. I'd also like to re-state the fact that I am a biased party, as I currently volunteer for the organisation. Thanks. JakeSpi (talk) 08:26, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Suggest you post to talk pages of relevant WikiProjects for assistance. — Cirt (talk) 12:54, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Nonviolent Communication GA Review

Thanks for doing the review. I have removed all the Citations Needed tagged text from the article. If it comes back, I will make sure it has proper sources. One of the major bones of contention in the past with this article has been reliability of sources, and so we spent a lot of time going over our sources in great detail. It is a good reminder that text has begun to creep back in that is less well sourced, and we need to stay on top of that.

Thanks!Michaplot (talk) 14:17, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

GA on Woodhull

Right, looks good. I'm happy to award this page GA status; I'd still really recommend that you WebCite a lot of these links though. I know that it'll take time, but if you don't do it, many of these links might die in a year or so, and then the GA status will have to be revoked because the sources shall be un-verifiable. TFAR

Cirt, I've noticed that you frequently run through WP:TFAR and support as many as four articles in four minutes; do you actually read the articles to be sure they are mainpage ready? There is a long discussion at User talk:Raul654#Reboot; when ill-prepared articles are run on the mainpage, the delegates are the ones who end up getting shot at. I see you often Support articles even when significant issues are raised, at TFAR or on talk, and I wonder how you can review so many articles in such a short time. Perhaps you will review the conversation at Raul's talk page, and consider taking closer looks at articles you support? Or perhaps you feel that the quality of the article shouldn't be an issue in mainpage selection; if that is the case, the delegates still end up getting shot at when that occurs. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:07, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, Sandy, you raise important points! I generally try to make time to read over the articles a day or two before commenting at TFAR itself. :) — Cirt (talk) 18:15, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. CIRT, This article is advertising and self promotion and should be considered for “speedy deletion “ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Catullo I am sorry for the long post but I feel that this is very important.

I am reaching out to you about the wiki article/bio page for Dan Catullo aka Daniel E Catullo III. The page should be considered for “speedy deletion” under the rules and guidelines for Wikipedia articles. This individual is using Wikipedia to advertise and promote himself. Further he has filtered out any and all bad information that gets added to his page leaving a rosy bio filled with in accuracies, fabrications and half-truths. If you look on the pages history you will see a good deal of the corrections and changes are made by user Dc3director , and Dan Catullo 3rd are one and the same. He has carefully manipulated his biography to omitt his long criminal history. To read his bio you would think he was an angel, but if you add his criminal history and he is the last person you would trust. I am appealing to you to either add his criminal past or to remove his biography completely. There are a lot of people who look at this bio and make a judgment to work with or invest in Mr. Catullo without all the facts being present. My understanding is that the editors at Wiki want supporting documentation and links. So please see below. I think its important for you to see the serious amount of criminal and also civil legal action has been brought against Mr. Catullo. He has shown a pattern of comitting felonious and deceptive criminal behavior as demonstrated by the cases listed here. Everything listed here is from public court records. There is no opinion or unsubstantiated information. just the Facts, case numbers, names, address, dates and links.

Wikiquote block

Hi Cirt, assuming your username is the same on Wikiquote it looks like you blocked my IP address (67.236.178.223). I don't even have permission to edit my user talk page there. If you look at my Wikipedia and Wikiquote edits I think you will see I am a valid user and have never used multiple accounts. How can I get the ability to edit Wikiquote again? Can you make an exemption for one IP address within a range? Thanks. –CWenger (^@) 00:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the query, I'll respond to this over at Wikiquote. — Cirt (talk) 16:12, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Freedom for the Thought That We Hate

I've been listening to the spoken word version. What an excellent summary of the history. I'll have to re-read/listen before I have anything useful to say about it but I just wanted to thank you for putting me on to it. (Shouldn't "That" in the title be lower case?) --Anthonyhcole (talk) 03:56, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm so glad you're reading about the history of Freedom of speech. I thought that too about the title, but actually that's how it's capitalized on the title page of the book itself. — Cirt (talk) 16:12, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Image question

I have never uploaded an image before that wasn't cover art or a screen shot. i don't really understand the proper procedure in uploading an image of a live person.

I found this image ( File:Eric Andre with Hannibal Buress.jpg ) of comedians Eric Andre with Hannibal Buress on set of The Eric André Show, and I thought it would valuable in helping to illustrate the series in the article. After I uploaded it I received a notice I did something wrong.

The image was found used as the background for Eric Andre's official verified twitter account which has been available to the public.

can you help me? Grapesoda22 (talk) 06:29, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) You would need to get permission from the copyright holder to use it. But if you do an advanced search on Flickr for images licensed under a Creative Commons license and take a look at this I bet you could find something else that would work. GAN quick fail of Sandra Fluke

I recently did a GA review of Sandra Fluke and quick failed it due to instability. The nominator, Casprings (talk · contribs), is upset over the review. Could you take a look at the article (especially the article history and talkpage) and let me know your thoughts?

My reasoning for the quick fail is shown at Talk:Sandra Fluke/GA1. I believe that I have correctly assessed the article according to WP:GACR and WP:GACN. I have both written and reviewed a number of GAs, almost all in WP:LAW.

If you need them, I can provide diffs, outlining specific points in the article that I believe supports my review.

Thanks, GregJackP Boomer! 12:30, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, not right now, I'll defer to the community discussion and/or the subsequent process at WP:GAR, good luck to you! — Cirt (talk) 17:18, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
OK, thanks. It's not at GAR, I was just wanting to see if I was looking at it correctly or if I was off-base. GregJackP Boomer! 01:00, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

The RFC for TAFI is nearing it's conclusion, and it's time to hammer out the details over at the project's talk page. There are several details of the project that would do well with wider input and participation, such as the article nomination and selection process, the amount and type of articles displayed, the implementation on the main page and other things. I would like to invite you to comment there if you continue to be interested in TAFI's development. --NickPenguin(contribs) 02:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
