You need to adhere to all the standards of writing a bio about a living person. You may wish to consult a well known case of a non-journalist who is missing , such as the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Your article should be entitled the Disappearance of Zane Plemmons. Another student is tackling the disappearance of Mario A. Segura. Still someone else is writing about a journalist from Michoacán who went missing in 2006 in the Disappearance of José Antonio García Apac. You may wish to also consult other articles in Wikipedia about missing journalists, such as Andrew Shumack or Frédéric Nérac, who are still missing (the articles are not very good at this time); or Dorothy Parvaz, who disappeared for a certain period of time (this article is well structured). I know it's frustrating but often names from other cultures/languages are spelled in English in multiple ways (which is really a problem with our English language spelling system -- Fish or Phish) and Wikipedia search is unforgiving. Dr. 2, I have read through what you posted on my talk page. I have tried before to search for this assignment just on google, and I have not had mich luck. When I type in "missing journalists in syria" or "missing foreign journalists in syria" I get actual people that are missing. So, I tried typing "phenomenon in syria over missing journalists", and still I dont get a description or anything, no dates. Just getting alot of names of people that are missing, and what their families are going through. Maybe something over Syrian officials denying holding journalists, but still it is about one individual, not ALL missing journalists.

I don't want it to look like I am not trying, I have been working on this all weekend with little to no luck. You said you had posted something about United Nations over the month of August,--I don't know where you have posted this, I've looked on your page, my page, and searched wiki. (I also tried searching that as well on google, and names came up again and again, and the date august 30) I'm really frustrated with the searching and finding (to me, what seems like nothing) and I'm wondering if I have the assignment confused.

The two resources that I have for one of my journalists, Ihsan al Buni, gave conflicting reports on who he was and how he died. I am having trouble finding more information on him, so I cannot find enough information to know which one is correct. Can I have some advice on how to find more on him? Dr 2, I have began writing my rough draft for my Wiki page over Shaam News Network. I have filled in a few sections including "Notable Reporting and Reactions". I had trouble gathering information, but I continue to dig and research on my own. I am saving my cites as a go and plan to plug them into Easybib to cite them properly before publication. As of now they are bare links saved in a Word Doc on my laptop. I have not added Wikilinks to anything yet, but I plan to do so when work is becoming for finalized. However, I am a little confused on the last part of your instructions sent in your USI email. It said to run a "reflinks tool". Hello, my name is Chelsi Carter. I am creating this page for a Mass Communications class. I will be writing about Ana María Marcela Yarce Viveros, journalist for the magazine Contralínea, who was found dead in a park in Mexico City by an early-morning jogger in 2011. Marcela was found dead with another woman and the two women had been strangled; they were discovered naked with their hands and feet tied and rope around their necks. It still is not clear why they were murdered.

Their killings follow a pattern of murders by organised crime gangs and drug cartels. But they are the first such killings of media workers in the nation's capital city.

Alison Bethel McKenzie, director of the International Press Institute (IPI), said: "The brave men and women of Mexico's media should not be put through such horrors for working to uphold the public's fundamental right to information."

The two women, both in their 40s, were long-time friends and were last seen having coffee together on Wednesday night at a city centre cafe.

The killings bring to 10 the number of media workers killed in Mexico this year, which means that the country has surpassed Iraq as the deadliest in the world for journalists.

Last two were not journalists

Hello, Crtew. I just wanted to let you know that Article 19 reported that Arturo Barajas López and José Antonio Aguilar López are not believed to be journalists. The information still has to be confirmed, but a Mexican media outlet reported that they were photographers for social events, and that none of them had journalism experience. Judging by the way there were executed, I guess we have to wait and see. It is still unclear if they were killed for their profession. Hello there, unfortunately I'm not an administrator so I can't restore the article so you can see or work on it. I simply delsorted the AfD to the appropriate Project delsort. The reasoning behind the deletion despite little input was that the admin agreed with the nominator’s rationale resulting in a soft delete. Your best course of action would be to contact the deleting admin User:ItsZippy & discuss the matter with him/her, possibly having it restored as a Userspace draft before being improved. University class work

Hi, Crtew, I noticed on User talk:Cncarter1 that you and that user were discussing a class assignment in which Summary was to write about Raghida Dergham. I have had to mark xyr initial article for speedy deletion because it consisted of nothing more than the subject's name.

I would suggest to you that a) you familiarize yourself with the policies and guidelines for school and university projects; and b) that you instruct your students to create their articles in their own user spaces. Articles created in user space are not subject to all of the same guidelines as article space articles (although they must still adhere to policies against creating blatant attack pages or promotional pages). Your students will be able to create their article in their own space at their own pace, and then submit the page to you for review without risking the articles being speedily deleted. Unfortunately, even if created as a class assignment, articles in the main space must adhere to all Wikipedia policies, and are subject to deletion if they do not. I'm Peridon, an admin here. I suggested to one of your people (Cncarter1) that they construct their article in userspace and I moved their start into their space. Just a question: is there a specifically assigned heading format to follow for journalist articles (personal, career, attacks/death, impact, context, aftermath, etc.)? While this is an ideal routine for assignments in terms of collecting research, it may make the article more readable once it is published to integrate the "context" of the journalist or targeted media group into the remainder of the article. My father's article

Thank you so much for the cleanup you've been doing on Michael Kelly (editor). I completely forgot the whole "change x to y" rule for COI edit requests, and thought I'd put off what would amount to a rather major overhaul to make entirely by edit request. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that you'd nonetheless undertaken the task of cleaning it up. Now, of course, I find myself seeing a million things I'd love to chip in, but can't. I think the best way to proceed right now is for you to leave a note at the talk page whenever you're done with major edits, and then I can file an edit request for any additional changes? Or do you think something else would be more efficient?

(For the mean time, by the way, I'm sure there are sources that give my mother's middle name as Greenberg, but it's not. It's Sue, but as shown here, she normally goes without a middle name.)

Don't worry about the "change x to y" rule, I have been watching the Michael Kelly (editor) article for a long time, and my first reaction matched your thoughts on the discussion page. I just always thought somebody else living in the US would take care of it and focused on journalists from elsewhere, but nobody ever fixed it. I'm going to go ahead with this revision in three steps: 1) Bring the article into factual accuracy and make sure fundamental information is sound and covered. 2) Address the notable body of his works of journalism. I'll be asking my students to contribute to this phase as extra credit and so you'll see an education banner go up on the talk page. 3) Wade into the more controversial realms. I'm not touching the Glass issue or his politics until the basics are squared away.

About your doubts of factual accuracy, please challenge me on anything like this!!! I understand that Greenberg is not Madelyn Kelly's middle name but at least 2 sources indicate it was her maiden name (which is how it being used here), just as Kelly is the maiden name of Michael's sisters (in the same Wikipedia article) and this is followed by their married last names. The sources for "Madelyn Greenberg" are The Guardian (UK) and The Atlantic. If this is wrong, let me know. You can list any factual challenges in this thread or you can send them to me via email.

Is it possible to get a photo of Michael Kelly in the public domain through Wikipedia Commons? As of now, I can't find one.

Thank you so much for all this! My mother will be thrilled - she's the one who asked me to request this edit, but I myself have always been dismayed at how poor Wikipedia's coverage of journalism is. In fact, right under the "Michael Kelly Award" section you can see quite a few pages that need some heavy cleanup; I should really take a look at it myself, but as a shameless WikiSloth, I always find myself more drawn to the little/obvious edits. As for the content points, I believe we have the rights to his "About the Author" photo from Things Worth Fighting For, so I'll ask my mom about that. And on the middle names, why not just go with a "neé" for my mother? I believe that's the standard style on here, though I could be wrong. As for the sisters, I'd imagine that it's going overboard (per WP:OBVIOUS) to list their maiden names when you've already said they're his sisters. On my Aunt Kate, though, who is currently referred to in the article as Katherine Bottorff, she generally goes by "Katy Kelly," and you can cite any one of the children's books she's written as proof of that. (If you need non-original research proof that that's the same person as my father's sister, I can go find out which book she dedicated to him, but I'll let you decide what the bar for sourcing should be on some of these points.) Your pointers have been helpful! Thank you. I have independently verified the point about Katy Kelly through a published interview. Wikipedia style on the use of maiden names includes the options of "neé" or the use of the parenthetical, which is the current form. I would advise you NOT to use the photograph on the back cover of book as it is in a copyrighted work, and your instinct to ask your mother is a good one. The first step of setting out the basic facts is nearing completion, and so are there any points where the media got it wrong? Perhaps further research on a point like this can lead to a verifiable correction. Currently, I'm on step two or identifying well-known reportage.Crtew (talk) 18:26, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Your students' submissions at AfC

When moving pages from your students userspaces to AfC space for review, could you please complete this action as a proper page move and not a copy and paste move. We're ending up with almost duplicate submissions in userspace and AfC space and this is causing a headache for the reviewers. The reviewers tools don't work in userspace which is why we like the submission to be in AfC space. Also, we don't know which submission you want us to look at when you move pages by copy and paste. I'm not sure I understand. I have been using the "submit" link in the articles for the creation banner, and from there the "move" link in the banner at the banner. The only ones think I copied and pasted was one article in main space that a student had revised -- Rima Maktabi -- which wasn't submitted for review, and at least two students I think had incorrectly submitted early in the semester and edited from their userspaces, which created some confusion in our process. I think I copied and pasted the latter ones because they already had two article spaces and I didn't feel comfortable deleting articles from student spaces. The example I'm referring to is User:Lmhorn1/María Isabella Cordero vs Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/María Isabella Cordero. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/María Isabella Cordero already existed as a working draft; I thought you had performed a complete copy and paste page move, but on closer examination I see you only copied some text across. However, on the 3rd December you submitted User:Lmhorn1/María Isabella Cordero for review despite there being a pre-existing draft at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/María Isabella Cordero -- this is where the problem arrises. It is preferable only to work on and submit the version that exists in AfC space otherwise we end up tracking two different versions of the same submission (we keep track of all drafts and declined submissions as well as pending ones). I've been clearing a back log of userspace submissions tonight and I've had a few duplicate submissions for this project you're working on. I wasn't doing that to be malicious, but rather the admins making the decisions were leaving me notes in the edit history and there were several. So I didn't have a central person to talk to. I am the instructor of the course. It's true I'm not the creator of the page, but the page was created by the student outside of our instructions. If you want to leave it, that is fine with me, however, the people at AFC do not like more than one contribution of the same name. So the developing page down the line will at some point bump up against this old, dusty article. I'm fine with this one sitting there, but I seriously doubt if this copy will be touched anymore. Thanks for reverting this edit as unsourced. It seems to be a myth that started with the article's creation back in 2004.[2] I've looked at almost every printed article out there on this and have seen absolutely nothing to support this assertion that the U.S. government refused to aid in bringing his body back in any way (or that the West German government had to "step in" for any reason). His own news crew brought his body from the murder scene to the plane, flew out with him, and then he was transferred to a plane sent by ABC in Panama. Anything else is not supported by the facts that were reported. Anyhoo, sorry to rant on about it, but I do appreciate your catch very much. No award

Hi Bogra, Isn't it an award? It was presented at an awards ceremony, and so that much I know we can agree upon without dispute. Yes, it is a special commendation, and on that we can agree also, which means that it was set apart as special. Isn't a special commendation a type of award? If not, what is it? It depends on your definition of award, but even a narrow definition of award would have to aknowledge that an award doesn't have to called an award to be one. Trophies, medals, commendations, certificates .... So what is it? If you were given a special commendation at an award ceremony would you list it on your C.V, and if you did under what title? Ok, I finally found a better source in a database. The "international award" was won by "Dying Rooms" with "War Crimes File" receiving the special commendation in the same international category for its "courageous expose of Islamic extremists now living in Britain." (I'll put the citation in the Wikipedia article.) Still sounds like an award to me though but with a more accurate name. Thanks for bringing this other source to my attention. Yes I have, including Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anthony Johnson (reporter) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Brandon, two extremely unnotable local journalists. I also proposed Lyn Brown (journalist) for deletion way back in 2006, but that was removed, though the article was deleted in 2011 via AfD, which I did not take part in. Honestly, due to all the nonsense that has happened to Wikipedia, which I learned will never be perfect, and having more important things to do in life, I am considering taking a long wikibreak or even just downright retiring and no longer really care what happens with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Douglas (cameraman) (2nd nomination), though I suggest not closing that AfD prematurely so other editors can express their views. Thank you for the list! I really appreciate that. I only work on journalists/journalism but just spot checking those three, I would argue that none of them are "extremely unnotable." I'm going to have them put in my sandbox so that I can salvage them. While I don't know what standards you're using to judge notability, I'm looking as well at their impact and work known within the specialized community of journalism. Brolan's 2005 award makes him notable under Wikipedia's own standards and award winners are always ("almost") saved in the AfD process, which is why I argued that he shouldn't be bundled. Douglas' work, I agree, may be perceived as non notable but that's only because he's worked in the background. Douglas' body of work as a whole and the number stories he has worked on pertaining to war and conflict in over 17+ years make him a significant journalist. Without knowing too much about Johnson (above), I already know he won awards and worked in ABC's flagship affiliate in New York, and you don't get to be a journalist there unless you're extremely competitive. The point here is not to berate your judgment. Your AfD nomination actually sparked some improvement in both Douglas and Brolan! When I am in AfD, I usually only get involved in nominations where I think that the person is significant but the Wikipedia article doesn't really communicate that significance. You rightly picked out two stinkers from the pot! Those were both awful pages and had been languishing for seven in years in a pitiful state. So I actually think you did them a service. But the listings were not broad enough to spark improvement or interest. I had both of them on my watchlist and only saw that they were being deleted when the pages were changed. A wider listing under news, television, Iraq and people would have helped. That's why your AfDs got so little participation in the cases of Johnson and Brandon. I hope I didn't discourage you, even though we seem to disagree alot (hahaha!). You have an eye for spotting badly communicated articles, which the mark of a good editor! Notification

Preface The following turn of events are illustrative of the problems one can get into in the most contentious areas of Wikipedia. Before this event began, I had no idea that users working in the most contentious areas of Wikipedia could be sanctioned by editors without a process. I would describe some of them as "hyper vigilant" editors with a completely different mindset than the average Wikipedian. I had some negative interactions with the User:Darkness Shines in an article about a journalist from his special area. Later, he issued this official looking warning about me (see below) based on my copy edits (punctuation, grammar, wording, placement of citations, etc.). I didn't take this sitting down and investigated his actions thoroughly. Others had the same experience with him. What ended up happening was that this template points to a list where DS placed us.

Here is the list of editors placed on notice (now edited with names deleted -- see history): [4]

It seems that DS was involved with all of these editors in editing disputes and then was placing them on a sanction list to quash their edits, which I gather were somehow opposed to his POV. I still believe this is intimidation as I say below. As an involved editor, he cannot place this banner down. You can read what happened "play by play" below as I am keeping this as a learned lesson about the tricky area of contentious Wikipedia, but the end result was that most of the names Darkness Shines put on the sanction list were removed by an uninvolved editor on 20 February 2013. Those names that were kept were put their for other reasons. The matter for me is now settled. From this experience, I learned about an area of Wikipedia I was unfamiliar with (contentious, controversial areas). For most of us, what is contentious to these editors isn't really a big deal but they take it very seriously. I also think I learned about how to make sure to keep my students in safe territory in the future. Keeping a difficult person away from yourself is quite difficult if you're involved in editing on a particular topic and they are in such a different mindset. Another lasting concern of mine is that editors can game the content by using administrative techniques to intimidate them. The one that DS used is not the only strategy one can use. For me, this stains the overall Wikipedia project and makes it vastly harder to improve content where there are so many passionate, sometimes unruly people. This is absolutely crazy, and moreso after I explicitly told you on your talk page to NEVER EVER contact me again, and I mean it. This is the craziest behavior I have ever experienced on Wikipedia. I went to this page because of David Bergman (journalist) as there's an obvious wikilink missing from him to this article, but the article is so poorly written and horribly organized -- it doesn't deserve a C assessment. MY STATEMENT ON THE ABOVE "NOTIFICATION"

Let it be known by all who read this that Darkness Shines put the above template on my page. He did it incorrectly as this template makes him appear as if he is an administrator. He is not an administrator. Anyone may search this fact out. Nor is he or has he ever been a member of the Arbitration Committee. In fact, he holds absolutely no powers at all.

Furthermore, the boilerplate template includes the words: "If you continue to misconduct yourself on pages relating to this topic, you may be placed under sanctions, which can include blocks, a revert limitation, or an article ban." I never did anything wrong and, therefore, I can't possibly "continue" to do anything but be myself. End of story. This is poorly worded and whoever is responsible for the wording should really consider the negative effects of it. It is throwing harsh words around without any system of controls.

What is worse is DS's WP:Bad Faith statement that follows which says I was stalking him right under this fake template. For the record, I've asked him not to every contact me ever again. My only sin was to have picked a journalist who for some reason the above editor wants to chip away at with nominations for delete, reverts and some run ins with people who edit it. Now this editor happens to work on articles in a contentious area of the world and the Arbitration Committee allows anyone and their dog and pony to throw this template around. This is bad form all the way around.

As for my two cents worth, the Arbitration Committee should never allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to go around like Marshall of the Outlaws and put templates down like this. There was and never has been any process for putting this template down. Darkness Shines didn't do anything special but put down the wrong code.

Furthermore, I was never told anywhere in Wikipedia that by editing pages about the subcontinent, the system would allow for this type of template to be put on my page. That's wrong! Editors beware. This list should be made clear and a window should pop up that shouts "Trouble: If you edit any further, you could be harassed with warnings."

What was my great sin in editing this page International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh), which is connected to another page of interest of mine David Bergman (journalist)? Oh yeah, I actually copy edited a bunch of commas. I corrected for style. I flagged some bad passive voice. And I rephrased some redundancies. I noted some places where citations could be better placed. And noted that some pronouns were actually ambiguous. (History exists for all to see.) Horror of all horrors, I did not make one single substantial content edit as the page was so badly written. Shocking as it is, I didn't want to make a content edit -- connecting Bergman with this content -- until the copy was somewhat readable. There is no way that this article should be C-assessed article. It's horrible and it's a start-article at best. It's disorganized and confusing and nobody who doesn't know a little bit to begin with can make heads or tails of what is going on. Probably because it can't be properly edited and people don't want to be around so many harsh editors.

Back to the template: This template is a form of intimidation. The way it was placed here, incorrectly, and the way the template is allowed to be used with the Arbitration Committee's blessing if you happen to edit in the subsets of Wikipedia where there is infighting among editors. Since it's done with Wikipedia's blessing in these contentious areas, I can't hold Darkness Shines fully at fault because the system allowed him to place the templates (even if he did incorrectly and in so doing misrepresented his actually powers).

Now we have to watch where we tread. This is a Wikipedia-allowed form of intimidation.

Wouldn't it be great if people who wanted to make positive contributions in these contentious areas were allowed to do so. I must have ventured into another world because this is not the Wikipedia I have been editing on or using to teach students.

In case you're wondering why I have to give this lengthy explanation, it is because these templates and the ARB COMM's approach is neither transparent nor are they communicated fairly to editors who stumble into a David Bergman (journalist) article or in International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh) territory.

I was told that I could remove this template, but I'm going to leave it as it's a great learning experience for me and a great teaching lesson (should I decide to teach ever again with Wikipedia). I'm not so sure right now. Crtew (talk) 03:35, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

I am going to ask for some advice. There are procedures for when someone's general conduct is in question, and I think it is possible (I am not going to commit myself yet) that they are called for here. Regarding, specifically, the removal of user rights, I understand there are procedures for that, but I have yet to research them.

Regarding 'this is scary' and other comments in similar vein, I think you need a little sense of proportion: Darkness Shines is not in your living room with a baseball bat. The worst he can do is make editing Wikipedia hard for you until this is sorted out - unpleasant I am sure but many people get along their whole lives without ever editing. There is nothing that he can do that cannot be undone.

Regarding 'It's amazing to me that someone with ... a history ...', what he may have done in the past should not stop him from getting any rights. It is his conduct now that matters.

Regarding that list, I am not sure it was a good idea to remove names from it. It is simply a list of people who have been given that notice. Furthermore, I think it is best to leave it as it is in order to make it clearer for anyone who is brought into this discussion. With that in mind, I will restore the names, with an explanatory note. Carrie, This is the basic issue: The process is not clear and transparent and it looks like we are all under some kind of sanctions when we are not, there is no process, and DS and others like the Northern Light of something have misused the template. It is unfair for Wikpedia to allow editors to put us on lists without spelling out our rights and informing us about the process, especially with the language used in that template that implies we acted badly. I'm serious, this is a make or break issue for me. I will no longer participate in this environment that is appearing more like an anything goes scenario than a safe, civilized space. I understand your concerns. But I don't think they are best handled by announcing protests and deleting things. I don't know what is so unclear: there was an ArbCom decision that administrators may use more sanctions than usual on that topic. The Arbitration process, details of discretionary sanctions, and the ArbCom case in question are there for anyone to read. The notice states that the notification will be logged, so what is it that you were not informed about?

Darkness Shines has misused the warning template - certainly he failed to use the appropriate parameters, very likely he used the template when it was not appropriate - but that does not mean that everything about arbitration is dreadful. We need to get to the bottom of this specific issue and do whatever needs to be done to rectify it, not to declare war on the arbitration process. This will be solved much more easily (and you will come out of it looking better) by allowing discussion to happen than by deleting things.

Editors do things wrong on Wikipedia. Whether it's simple vandalism or something like this. It can't always be resolved instantly, but it can and will be resolved, and it doesn't mean that it should be made impossible for anyone to do whatever it was, because the only way to do that would be to stop anyone editing the encyclopaedia, which would defeat the point just a little.

I'm backing off

You said earlier that you have been in contact with an ArbCom representative. I am very reluctant to get involved with a situation which has been/is being handled out of my sight by someone who is doubtless much more experienced with editing and policy generally and with some of the specific issues in this case (i.e. the Arbitration case) in particular. When I did try to help, you didn't seem happy with my handling of it, and suggested that I was acting against what you had been told by ArbCom, so I backed off. I do not want to contradict someone who almost certainly knows better than me.

There is also an administrator, EdJohnston, already involved with the case, and I don't want to oppose him either. My earlier intention was to go to AN/I to ask for the involvement of an administrator, but it seems that that is unnecessary; I will let him take the lead, and I certainly won't be reporting anything to anywhere off my own bat. I will keep an eye on the case and comment if my input is requested or I feel it would be helpful, but I would suggest asking EdJohnston's advice before mine from now on. Well, there you have it. One tip for months to come. Don't worry and don't panic if you think someone is complaining about you. In Wikipedia very few things are actually hidden. If you are 100% sure you have done nothing wrong then relax. Don't get hyped and all involved in discussions on others' talk pages just because they mention your username. If DS feels he is being stalked; don't get offended, unless of course he frames it uncivilly in which case it will likely constitute a contravention of WP:CIVIL/WP:NPA.

I once was (and I guess still am) where you are and I can relate to you. I, some months ago, stumbled upon an essay (embellished with a cascade of candor), I recommend you read it.

Thanks for you advice! I appreciate that. Yes I have used Wikipedia to teach. One of the issues here (in the DS case) is my current concern about student safety if a student should run across the likes of someone like a DS. For instance, I'm very interested in the Sagar-Runi murder involving the killing of two journalists in Bangladesh. What if I assigned that and it became contentious just because this area of editing is so wild? For the most part, I have my students write in their user space (once I get them started), which is 100 percent safe. But students stray (as they should if they're curious and independent)! Lostromantic, Hi, thank you for reaching out to me. However, I cannot comment at this time. Let's wait and see. I have your contact info. Until then, there are a number of things you can do as a new editor to avoid problems with the people who are bothering you. 1) Gain some more experience editing in less contentious areas. You have to know policy inside and out. 2) Learn to use your user space for drafting. User space is the most powerful asset you have because you can draft, organize and perfect your copy there without any interruptions. Before you take it live, it would be good for you to get comments on your copy. 3) I can't really comment on tactics being used here, but the result is that a lot of great information is being buried in histories of articles. Go through those troubled edits page by page, and take out only the good information or information that can be made better by putting it in a document in your user space. From there you can fix it, make it airtight, and revive it in a much better form when you take it live. 4) Usually, in my experience, when copy is being criticized, your opponents have something right (maybe not all). Before you lash out, be generous and try to figure out where they are right and where they are wrong. Fix what's wrong elsewhere (in user space) or let it go. 5) Stick to you guns only when you have a locked air tight case. If you do, and you have problems, seek help from someone. 6) Never, go over 3 reverts. You might try other resources. But thank you for approaching me and saying hello. 2013 Shahbag/Bangladesh Protests

The article should discuss the Shahbag protest within its context, neutrally, from an international point of view. Basically the Shahbag protest demanded the death of all accused, which has been criticized by UN, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty, David Bergman of New Age in Bangladesh, BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, The Economist, The UK House of Lords, UK Bar Council, etc, as a mockery of the due process of law and responsible for counter protests from opposition. These media have claimed that the trial was not fair in the first instance, on top of that Shahbag is forcing mob justice on a court. Shahbag protest has expressed solidarity with government in suppressing opposition, and the government is justifying the killing of 140+ opposition supporters in 2 days using Shahbag demands as a popular back up. Its highly deceptive to say Shahbag is a peaceful movement. They have called on the government to eradicate Jamaat-e-Islami by force. Everyone killed were opposition supporters. The police is shooting opposition supporters on sight, without using any other method to quell the protests first. On the other hand Shahbag protesters are being provided by food and security regularly. Only one of them died, and even though the government is blaming the opposition for murder, several media has reported that it might well be an inside job by the government to blame the opposition. Some students arrested in relation to the murder have reported that they did not know their actual instigator well. The government is not arresting the actual instigator, leading to suspicion. Only expatriate Bangladeshi journalists such as Tahmina Alam have written positively about the protest. The sources used in this article quote only Bangladeshi media sources such as BDNews, The Daily Star, and some Indian articles which have been accused of yellow journalism favoring a fascist movement in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi sources revealing the situation of the opposition, such as Amar Desh, has also been ommitted from this article. Amar Desh reported that Shahbag backed goons are setting fire to Hindu temples, but Shahbag is claiming that it was the opposition who did it and so the police is justified in killing them. Shahbag has also threatened politically neutral professors, journalists, real 1971 freedom fighters such as Kader Siddiqui who expressed opinions against the mass killings. Every international media has confirmed that those who died belong to the opposition, so stop making deceptive comments such as the opposition is responsible for the killings. The rise of fascism and killings in Bangladesh is a direct result of Shahbag demands. I guess there are many Shahbag backers here trying to destroy the neutrality of this article. This article should discuss the situation about Shahbag fully. What's the context, what its demands are, the legality of their demands, the fairness of the original trial, their patronizing by government, the fascistic outcome of Shahbag and the mass killings of opposition using internationally reputed references, not the unreputed Bangladeshi ones that are already under severe criticism of yellow journalism. Same here sir, I do not stand for any political faction. I also want trial for 1971 war crimes which were committed by both sides and the statistics of which are twisted by both sides. But whats going on now is purely politically motivated because only a selected few opposition leaders have been charged with war crimes. Not only that, the trial that has been set up has been revealed to be unfair by many local and international media due to exposed govt. pressure on the tribunal, limiting of defense witnesses, abduction of some defense witnesses by law enforcers, allowing hearsay evidence by the prosecution and many more (refer to many international reports and authorities including UN and also one by David Bergman working for New Age in Bangladesh and a Skype conference revealed by The Economist and Amar Desh). To counter these allegations, and to divert public dissatisfaction regarding other govt. activities (check govt. activities since 2009), I believe the government staged the Shahbag protests with the help of some pro govt. media to justify the capital punishment as a public demand that cannot be countered. But this leads to a more unfair trial where a mob demands death penalty of all accused. How can a mob decide a court's verdict? The government urged the court to take the Shahbag demands into consideration. Can they do that? Where is the independence of judiciary. Obviously this will lead to protests by the opposition. Using a courage that they got from Shahbag the govt. open fired and killed 140+ opposition supporters in two days, and arrested 200000+. Isn't this fascism and a violation of human rights? That is why even though I am a politically neutral person, I just cant sit back and watch. I am for democracy and human rights. I have a question for you: Do you or do you not acknowledge that Biggart's notability is that was the only photojournalist killed while covering the attacks, and that the source cited for that statement supports this, yes or no?

This is not the same thing as saying that he was "the only media-related death on 9/11", nor does it even resemble that statement, in appearance or in meaning, nor would any reasonably intelligent person who doesn't have a profound reading comprehension problem or doesn't suffer from a severe mental hernia infer such a thing.

...then I think I'm willing to come to a consensus. I think you mean "compromise". Consensus refers to the general majority of the Wikipedia editing community. Again, you really ought to try reading WP:CONSENSUS.

I just can't stand to think of the word ONLY there or the appearance of it while 7 other people are forgotten. That's my only motive here. Your motive is incompatible with Wikipedia's mission. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not a memorial (See WP:MEMORIAL), it is not a soapbox (See WP:NOTSOAPBOX), and it is not a platform for you to exploit in order to make a personal point (See WP:POINT). You need to learn these policies and guidelines, as well as the others I linked to on the article discussion page, and you need to familiarize yourself with them so as to incorporate them into your editing habits. Your apparent refusal to do so is hurting your ability to be a fully functioning and useful member of the editing community. In the end, neither the Biggart article nor any other article is going to be allowed by the community to include material that isn't directly about that article's subject, or have its valid content compromised to suit the whims of people with a personal agenda. The sooner you accept this, the better.

But if you can see to it to agree to change the language as other people (cool, less passionate minds) are telling us... None of the other three editors who have weighed in on the article talk page to oppose the inclusion of your irrelevant section have suggested dropping the word "only". In fact, both the wording that Lexein suggested and the wording that siafu suggested (while arbitrary and less straightforward in Lexein's case, and bizarrely false in siafu's) include the word "only". RightCowLeftCoast suggested no alterations to the sentence in question.

The confidence that can be placed in a source, on the other hand, is Reliability, not neutrality. (Again, you can click on the wikilink to learn more about this policy. That's why we have wikilinks!) The fact that the information in question comes from Biggart's official site does not make it unreliable, any more than it makes it non-neutral or "dubious", since the information is not unduly self-serving, self-aggrandizing or promotional, and is not being used to support Biggart's notability. If you have a legitimate argument as to why the information on the official website is not reliable, then make it. Otherwise, please stop adding tags tendentiously to the article. Hey Chad, a couple things ...

• 1. The "motion for applause" comment was a reference to the "I applaud Kim" comment of yours. He often doesn't get the credit he deserves simply because he's so low key and un-controversial. The "motion" was kind of a snide thing about how bureaucratic and legalistic we get at times. So it was just my sense of humor, and I wanted Kim to know that you'd said something nice about him.
• 2. Going back to that "closed thread" thing, .. you don't have to be timid on the admin boards. In fact, a lot of times someone will even reopen a closed thread if they feel that it hasn't been resolved yet. It doesn't apply in this case, but you can also start a new sub-section below a closed section if it's related but a bit of a different topic. I only mention that because I don't recall seeing you on any of the admin. boards, and looks like you just mostly work on articles and such. (more people should do that, including me). To be honest, what caught my eye was where someone mentioned your name, and I thought maybe they meant me. That happens in real life too when someone says Chad, or Chet .. it catches my attention and I tend to respond with a "huh"? On my first pass, this article looks great; thanks a lot for all your work on it. I particularly like the context you offer. I flagged one quotation as needing an inline citation just so it wouldn't be missed. My only larger suggestion would be to integrate the section "Notable quotations/statements" into the rest of the text a bit more; it would be interesting to hear what the additional commentary on these statements was, how the statements fit into the investigation, etc. You might also mention in the lead section that it's unclear if the motive for the murders was the couple's journalism.

I can't remember off the top of my head how much experience you have with either area, but I'd say you should definitely nominate this one for WP:DYK, where it'll pass easily, and WP:GAN, where I think it should also pass, perhaps with a little tinkering. That's an interesting idea. The main page editors try to feature FA status articles that have some relevance to the day so this is a distinct possibility. There are other sides to this issue: Judge Huq is a public person and he is serving in a public capacity in a position of responsibility that deserves our scrutiny and full transparency. The issue is larger than Huq as justice is at issue. I realize that's not how things are done in Bangladesh as the court can clamp down on the republication of the videos inside Bangladesh. That's not the case elsewhere. You ask me to put myself in the place of Ziauddin. You might also put yourself in the place of the accused over whom Huq is ruling. Do you think what either Huq or Ziauddin did is fair to them? Interesting issues. Therefore, I disagree about boring Wiki issues, as Wikipedia is not here to cover up the foibles of public figures and these are issues appropriate for Request for Comment. The videos have been widely publicized, first by The Economist and Amar Desh, and then elsewhere, and they will never disappear, and they are not out of the scope of notability. Hi, is there a place where I can report a 3RR violation? Looking at the edit history of said user, he's quick to stomp on others for violating this policy but when it comes to him he's all about WP: ignore all rules. Given the fact that he's not giving other users a chance to edit and zeolously stirring up drama by nominating to delete well sourced articles, as well as acting uncivilised, I think dishing out some discipline is in order. I understand your points well, but you would have to go through WP:3RRNB as there is no bypassing it for some higher authority. You also might have a case against him for accusing you of following him without proof, which is a WP:Good Faith violation, but you seem to know how those outcomes turn out. The user has quite a long rap sheet at the ANI noticeboards, which is searchable, and quite a lot of enabling has been done in the past if you look through those records. You made a number of questionable edits (in good faith) but I dispute your reasoning. Your removal of valid trade publications as not reliable is something that I hope you learn more about. Trade journalism is an acceptable source and the journalists and editors who work in this area are typically experts in the subject matter. I'm amazed that you kept a newsletter but deleted any other pointer from it. Where I had included it and the source didn't provide the whole information, I had already included a citation needed template. My curiosity was aroused by your recent (June 21st) comment at [[:User talk:UnrepentantTaco#AfD voting pattern] ... nominating articles for deletion and then writing Delete in your nomination text. As nominator, you can't vote and so you should cease this practice in nominations .... My understanding is that deletion discussions are not votes, and that Afd discussions are closed by consensus. As Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How an AfD discussion is closed says: Consensus is not based on a tally of votes, but on reasonable, logical, policy-based arguments. So only legitimate, rational arguments should be considered in assessing consensus.
